SCI Case Study
Dear Uncle Steve and Aunt May,
I am sorry to hear about Cousin Jimmy s spinal cord injury (SCI), and I understand you are
searching for a cure using stem cell therapy, so I ll try and provide you with as much information
as I know. Currently in Australia and around the world, there are no proven cures for SCI using
stem cells, this is according to the Australia and New Zealand Spinal Cord Injury Network (Stem
Cell Interventions for Spinal Cord Injury, 2009) and icord.org (Steeves et al., 2012), both leading
organisations in SCI treatment. There are however, clinical trials and research going on around the
world that use stem cells to treat different aspects of SCI. A list of some of these studies is

The recent development in the ability to grow brain organoids promises exciting new areas of
research into drug and therapy treatments in vivo (in a laboratory) without experimentation on
patients, though this technology is still some way off use in SCI, and are mainly used in
neurodegenerative diseases (Lee et al., 2017)
If you are still looking for a stem cell treatment online, it is best to know what to look for, and
what to avoid. Many online sites offer stem cell treatments/trails, but are not regulated, as an
example I have provided links to some of the sites that should be avoided.
1 Beike Biotechnology (https://stemcelltreatmentnow.com) is a company in China that promises
treatments for a range of issues from Autism to traumatic brain injury all using the same stem cell
treatment methods along with supportive rehabilitation such as acupuncture. They provide no
scientific papers or data to support their treatment and instead have pages of patient testimonials
detailing outcomes (Stemcelltreatmentnow.com, 2017).
2 StemCells21 (https://stemcells21.com/). While at first look this site looks more legitimate then
others it still has the same issues. The site claims they can treat a variety of ailments and combine
stem cell treatments with a variety of other techniques such as shock wave therapy. This site even
provides research information, however it is all published by

The Use Of Engines Powered By Gasoline
Plan of Investigation
At the turn of the 20th Century, the advent of a number of new technologies posed to change the
economy and society of the United States. One such technology was the internal combustion
engine, which, after the last 100 years of common use, can be considered one of the most
influential technologies of the 20th century. The rapid rise in the use of engines powered by
gasoline is commonly attributed to the popularity of the Model T car introduced by Henry Ford in
1908. Prior to this, the combustion engine faced serious competition from steam and electric
engines. In order to ascertain why the Model T was so successful compared to other vehicles of
the time, I plan to analyze aspects of American society in the early ... Show more content on

In comparison, while the earliest design of combustion engines can be dated back to 1680, no
practical designs were actually built by 1858. In his autobiography, Henry Ford himself makes
accounts of the hesitance with which the advent of combustion engines were met, in favor of steam
and electric engines. On the subject of the emergence of gas engines, he recalls that They were
received with interest rather than enthusiasm and I do not recall any one who thought that the
internal combustion engine could ever have more than a limited use. All the wise people
demonstrated conclusively that the engine could not compete with steam. The time period
during which the Model T s rise to popularity took place must also be considered. From 1890 to
1920, a period of American progression aptly named the Progressive Era took place. Beginning as
a social movement and developing into a political agenda, Progressivism refuted Social Darwinism
and asserted that society s problems, namely such issues as poverty, racism, and class warfare,
could be solved by improving education, environments, and workplaces. In general, progressives
believed that all people had the right to the core aspects of democracy that promoted independence.

The Generation Of The World Essay
This distinction allows Athanasius to argue that the Arians had confused the ideas of offspring
with creature and the verbs to beget with to create. What becomes apparent from the above
Athanasian text is that the decisive factor which defines the distinction between offspring and
creature is the person of the Father and his role in the generation of the Son and the creation of
the world. Athanasius task becomes proving that the Father is portrayed in the Bible as
personally involved in the generation of the Son as opposed to the creatures who exist outside
of him. In this effort he turns to Psalms and examines three texts: Psalm 2:7 ( The Lord said to
me, My son you are; today I have begotten you ), Psalm 44:2 ( My heart spoke a good word ), and
Psalm 109:3 ( From the womb, before Morning star, I brought you forth ) and synthesizes them
with verses speaking of the Father s direct relation to the Son (Matt. 3:17; John 8:42; 6:46).
Matt. 3:17, 17:5
The Father s personal relationship with the Son is perhaps nowhere more evident than in the
baptism and transfiguration (Mat. 3:17, 17:5; Mark 1:11, 9:7; Luke 3:22, 9:35). Traditionally
interpreted along Trinitarian terms Athanasius makes use of this voluntary declaration of the Father
with the Son as describing Jesus natural sonship. By focusing on the Father s initiative as an
unprecedented occurrence he argues that if the generation of the Son did not differ essentially from
the creation of other beings and he were

Chain Elongation In The Escalators
For this particular project profit is not a concern, but rather the concern is to increase customer
satisfaction. This is going to be done by having predictive maintenance on the elongation of the
chain in the escalators, rather than reactive maintenance. Currently, BART is reacting to the effects
of chain elongation on escalators which causes maintenance to be rather expensive but most
importantly inconvenient for customers. BART is currently doing this because some of the
escalators are older so they do not have any automation associated with them. At this moment, when
an escalator breaks down due to chain elongation there is major downtime to repair it because it is
in need of emergency maintenance. With emergency reactive maintenance an

Naturalistic Observation On Door Holding Behavior
The door holding behavior of 63 young adults was observed as they walking through the doors of a
university dining hall. People entering or exiting the building were only considered participants of
the study if they had an opportunity to hold the door for a person behind them; those who walked
through the door without anyone behind them were excluded from the study. Informed consent was
not obtained from the participants.
Design
This naturalistic observation was conducted to observe the door holding behaviors performed by
young adults as a way to examine courteousness, or consideration of others.
Three possible behaviors were identified: Did Not Hold, Held Door, Stepped Aside. A coding of

The experimenter hypothesized that the Hold Door behavior would occur most frequently. The
results of the study support this hypothesis, as more than three fourths of the participants performed

Since college students schedules vary, a more representative sample could have been obtained had
the observations taken place at several different times of day. Additionally, the fact that the study
was conducted at a dining hall may have affected the results, as it is possible that people who did
not have a campus meal plan were unintentionally excluded from the study. Recording door holding
behaviors at multiple different on campus locations may help to establish a more representative

Sleepwalking Essay
Sleepwalking
Somnambulism, or sleepwalking, belongs to a group of parasomnias. This disorder of arousal is
characterized by complex motor behaviors initiated during stages 3 and 4 of non rapid eye
movement (NREM) sleep (slow wave sleep) (3). Behaviors during sleepwalking episodes can vary
greatly. Some episodes are limited to sitting up, fumbling and getting dressed, while others include
more complex behaviors such as walking, driving a car, or preparing a meal (2). After awakening,
the sleepwalker usually has no recollection of what has happened and may appear confused and
disoriented. The behaviors performed while sleepwalking are said to be autonomous automatisms.
These are nonrelfex actions performed without conscious volition and ... Show more content on

This stage is believed to help people enter deeper stages of sleep (4). Stage 3 sleep consists of 20 50
percent delta activity and stage 4 sleep of more than 50 percents delta activity (4). Stages 3 and
4 are characterized as being slow wave sleep in addition to being the deepest levels of sleep.
Approximately 90 minutes after being asleep, people enter rapid eye movement (REM) sleep (4).
REM sleep consists of rapid eye movements, a desynchronized EEG, sensitivity to external
stimulation, muscle paralysis and dreaming (4).
Sleepwalking occurs during stages 3 and 4 of the sleep cycle, the deepest levels of sleep. This
slow wave sleep is normally characterized by synchronized EEG activity (4). This indicates that
mental activity is very low during these stages of sleep. However researchers have shown that the
EEG of a sleepwalker has diffuse, rhythmic, high voltage bursts of delta activity associated with
abrupt motor activity (1). This is very different from the EEG activity normally associated with
slow wave sleep. In addition to the EEG results, they found that there is a decrease in regional
cerebral blood flow in the frontopariental cortices during sleepwalking (1). This indicates that
sleepwalking is a dissociated state consisting of motor arousal and persisting mind sleep, which
seems to arise from the selective activation of thalamocingulate circuits and the persisting inhibition
of other thalamocortical arousal systems (3).

The Abandonment Of Professional Autonomy
follow modern requirement in providing the same care. The abandonment of professional
autonomy could help to resolve some problem in compliance with health care regulations. In
healthcare, the goal of a provider is to treat patients and patient and the healthcare professional
are pursuing one single personal goal, which is treatment. Some medical providers are failing to
follow policies or regulatory requirement when providing care. They should be held account and
must be required to follow policies or procedures when providing care. Reduced autonomy on
healthcare that is supported by joint pressure, safety rules, and institutionalized safety methods
that is standardized could force provider to follow protocol. The strengthen approach to process
improvement through focus on quality care in the hospital and educating health care
professionals on teamwork and strict regulations can help reduced the autonomy of health care

specific circumstances that brought her to each of the questions and what conclusions she came

The common citizens helps electing political parties to help solve public issues which later links to
their government by classifying themselves as Democrats, Republican or Reform.
Social philosophyThe author believes that society should be held under governing laws, which
will help protect the people in a bigger scheme of things. When a larger group is being protected
it will mean that people will have to give up a little of their rights. For example, after the 911
tragedy the writer witnessed armed soldiers in the airport and also was pulled to the side and
searched thoroughly. At first, the author felt as if she was violated, but after boarding the airplane
she felt really safe. Although individuals give up some of their rights as citizens it serves as a
means to decrease chaos in our society. When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are
challenged to change ourselves (Frankl, 2014).
Conclusion
In conclusion we end where we started philosophy can be divided into five branches which study
the existence, knowledge, action, force and art. The six branches each seek and question looking

Dissecting Clarke s Cosmological Argument
Dissecting Clarke s Cosmological Argument
In the following paper, I will outline Samuel Clarke s Modern Formulation of the Cosmological
Argument and restate some of the points that he makes. Samuel Clarke s argument for the existence
of God states that There has existed from eternity some one unchangeable and independent being
(37). The argument follows a logical flow and can be better understood when the structure is laid
out and the argument reconstructed.
Clarke begins his argument with a use of disjunctive syllogism, a form of valid logical reasoning
that proposes two outcomes, denies one, and thus proves the other to be true. Clarke s premise
states that one of the two following statements must be true: either there has ... Show more content

He states that since the series of dependent beings couldn t be caused by any external or internal
source, that it would have to be cause absolutely by nothing . He then states that this is a
contradiction to be done in time; and because duration in this case makes no difference. He also
states that it is a contradiction to suppose it done from eternity. Since the universe has parts that
come into existence at one occasion and not another, it must have a cause. There could supposedly
be an infinite regress of causes if there was evidence for such, but lacking such evidence, God must
exist as the cause.Clarke does not specifically identify God at any point in his argument. He ends
with There must be on the contrary, of necessity have existed from eternity, some one immutable
and independent Being (37). Whatever one chooses to call this Being , it is the one unchangeable
and independent being that Clarke attempts to prove the existence of in his argument.

Private Schools And Public Schools

The government is the reason we have order, safety, schools, roads, and many more things that we
don t think too much about in our everyday lives. There are two branches of government the
Democrats, and the Republicans. Our president, Donald Trump, is a republican. He believes in
more investment in our military than our schooling. We already took a pay cut in our schooling
system because of that, and the money that is going towards our schools are either going to public
or private schools. But is it really necessary for the government to fund private schools when
students already have to pay tuition? The government should be funding more towards public
schooling.
By funding private schools, what will happen to the public schools that rely on that money from the
government to provide an education to the students in their community? What if the public schools
close, and the only other option that is reasonably close is a private school? A lot of people cannot
afford the tuition cost of private schools. The average cost of a private elementary school in
Michigan is 9,000 dollars per year. When kids move up to high school the cost jumps up to
13,500 dollars per year. (Average Private School Cost, 1) Most middle class families cannot
afford the tuition, and also any extracurricular activities such as volleyball, or track. The average

Title
Defeat is a state of mind, no one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality. said
the famous fighter Bruce Lee. His quote explains how defeat is not accepted easily, like how
santiago from The Old Man and The Sea is persistent and does not accept defeat. In The Old Man
and The Sea by Ernest Hemingway, the character santiago is a hardworking and old fisherman
who is having bad luck catching fish lately. Santiago decides to head out to sea on a 3 day

Throughout the book on his 85 day journey, Santiago continues through the ocean to catch a fish
he has caught. But man is not made for defeat he said man can be destroyed but not defeated
(pg.103). This quote is very powerful and meaningful, this is because santiago is going through a
hard time out in the sea, he is hungry and in pain through the book and wishes for help along his
journey. However, even though all these hardships weigh santiago down, he continues to fight and
he continues to remain strong mentally so he is able to catch this fish. So as we reread the quote, it
states that a man can be destroyed but not defeat, just as Santiago was. Even though he was
struggling to get by through the ocean, he continued to fight because even though he was destroyed
because of the pain he had, the little strength he had and the hunger he endured, he was not
defeated, because his will to catch the fish remained strong. As Santiago s journey continues
through the book, he preservers and refuses to defeat. Despite the pain and hunger he endured, his

learned and I ultimately have not changed, or have not become a better person. For the
practicum I chose to improve my personal prayer. The prophets in the Book of Mormon such as
Nephi, Enos, and Alma testify of the importance of prayer when it comes to personal conversion
and guidance. During (and now after my practicum) I understand how important communication
with God is and how strengthened I feel after I pray. When I study the Book of Mormon, now I
try to identify doctrines and principles and how I can apply them to my life. For example, when
we read about Ammon and the Sons of Mosiah I tried to identify specific doctrine that I could
apply about being a better

How Does Landscape Reflects Society
I believe this statement to be true that landscapes are reflections of the societies that create them. I
have read and analysed many articles which have clearly reflected this and a quote by Pierce
Lewis which I feel is needed to start off my discussion says that landscape is something to be
looked at, but seldom thought about (Lewis, 1979, p.1). This statement made me start to really
think about landscapeand how we must look further than what just meets the naked eye. From my
readings I have found out that in order to look at landscape better than we must train our eyes to
see things in a different light and therefore it is vital that we see past the landscape that presents
itself to us. Duffy describes landscape brilliantly by saying that... Show more content on

The Temples were developed in the 15th century and were to be later rediscovered by the French
in the 19th century. They are a symbol of Cambodia s glorious past (Winter, 2007, p133) and the
temples also reflect many degrees of heritage as it is used today for celebrations of the Khmer
New Year that last four days and is revered by Khmers as a deeply symbolic icon of national,
ethnic and cultural unity (Winter, 2007, p133). On average the UNESCO figures reveal that
100,000 to 200,000 people visit the area for the four day celebrations. This shows how
landscapes are reflections of the societies that create them when such large numbers are coming
to celebrate this tradition. In the year 1975 on April 17th a new party came into Phnom Penh
declaring the end of 2000 years of Cambodian history (Winter, 2007, p138) they were called Pol
Pot and brought radical changes that killed many Cambodians as the slaved away building. This
party were all about taking control and power of the landscape which shows again that
landscapes are reflections of the societies that create them. The Pol Pot removed all freedom of
travel and therefore Cambodians were not able to visit the Angkor tombs this a sign of the people
being oppressed. After what is only two decades the festivities of today therefore represent a
reclaiming of the site...as a populist symbol of history enabling Cambodians to better

Mountain Biking Research Paper
What is one supposed to do when the most important thing in their life is taken away? Situations
like this happen every day to countless people all around the world. People are left behind
without having any purpose in life. This feeling will draw people to feel sad, angry and even
hopeless. For me, I simply felt devastated. The moment I heard my collarbone snap, I knew my
future would change forever. There is nothing worse than not being able to do what you love.
Mountain biking has been in my blood for as long as I can remember. Every day consists of
either a high intensity mountain bike or road bike ride. I work at a bike shop and I am really well
connected in the cycling community. Cycling has slowly wedged itself at the one of the most ...

I was deep into my training for the fall season and this setback would surly cancel my fall racing
plans. After the surgery, I was walking around with a plate and eight screws in my shoulder.
Everyone told me I would be unable to race this fall. I refused to listen to them. Every day, I rode
on the spin bike and continued training at my fullest. With the first race only weeks away, I
feared they were right. I waited in anticipation as this would determine the remainder of my high
school mountain biking career. The day came and the doctor said I was all ready to go. I ended
up going into the season a stronger rider than I was before. I was even stronger mentally. When
encountering a time of trial, you will come out a stronger person. Looking back, I would not be the
person I am today without this event taking place. It taught me that I can accomplish anything I set
my mind to. I now have the strength to overcome any walls that life throws at me and come out
even stronger on the other side. No matter how the odds are stacked against you, anything is
possible. Perseverance is essential to accomplishing whatever you want. Never doubt yourself and

The Battle Of Little Big Horn
If you grew up in the United States then you have heard about The Battle of Little Big Horn,
however you might remember it as being called Custer s last stand. Hearing the title might bring
up some knowledge of the battle, but why was the battle fought and did it serve a greater
purpose? This paper will show how and why the battle happened and why the Battle of Little
Bighorn could have been avoided as well as some of the effects the battle had.
General George Armstrong Custer had gained the reputation of getting into trouble early into his
career (PBS n.d.). He graduated last in his class, and shortly after his graduation he was court
marshaled for not stopping a fight between two cadets (PBS n.d.). He never was punished for this ...

If the treaty wasn t written up until after the Black Hills was searched for gold they could have made
a different agreement with the Sioux that would have allowed Americans to mine the gold.
When they found gold it was just a matter of time before things on the Sioux land would become
heated. Miners made their way to the Black Hills, moving further and further into the Sioux s
hunting grounds. Ulysses S. Grant who was president during this time tried to honor the Treaty of
Fort Laramie (PBS n.d.) but the miners demanded government protection from the Native
Americans (Clark n.d.). When Grant gave into the pressure the federal government issued an order
requiring all Indians to move onto reservations by January 31, 1876, otherwise they would be
considered hostile (PBS n.d.).
Many of the Indians didn t hear about the order while others simply ignored it. So Grant decided
to send troops to the Dakota territory to fight the Native Americans. John Gibbon, George Crook,
and Alfred Terry led these troops (PBS n.d.). Custer was not part of the force during this time due
to political issues. The biggest reason Grant avoided using Custer was because he had testified
about corruption in Grant s Indian affairs offices (PBS n.d.). It wasn t long before Grant s friend
Philip Sheridan persuaded Grant to send Custer west.
Although the Sioux were abiding by the treaty, Custer s army was ordered to move

Statistical Control Charts Essay
Introduction and History of Statistical Process Control Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a
method of controlling the quality of a manufacturing process and is most often affiliated with
control charts. However, SPC in reality is a group of tools and includes additional statistical and
evaluation/measurement methods. Smith, Megahed, Jones‐Farmer and Clark defined seven
basic tools of SPC including; histograms, check sheets, Pareto charts, cause and effect diagrams,
defect concentration diagrams, scatter diagrams and of course the aforementioned control charts
(2014). These tools represent the scope and overall purpose/pursuit of SPC which is; any
statistical method designed to detect changes in a process over time (Woodall Montgomery, 1999,
p. 377). Since control charts is often the most discussed of these seven tools; it is important to note
there are many different types of control charts. The main control charts include; process charts
which are R charts and s charts, non conforming item charts also known as p charts and np charts
and finally average numbers of non conformity charts or c charts and u charts (Woodall
Montgomery, 1999).
Statistical Process Control experienced its most significant growth and expansion during the quality
revolution in the 1980 s (Woodall Montgomery, 1999). It was during this time period that the focal
point of quality changed from being merely acceptance or customer defined quality criteria to
actual process control (Woodall

Support the Right to Carry a Concealed Weapon
More than seven out of eight people in the United States own one or more guns ( Gun Control ). If
the United States does not support and protect gun rights, then we will lose them and will be a step
towards tyranny. In order to protect our freedoms and our individual safety, the nation needs to
continue to protect our right to keep and bear arms. The nation needs to look at the outcomes of
past societies with strict gun control. The United States also needs to look at the rights that some
are trying to get rid of because they think it will help with the crime rate when really it will actually
have the reverse effect. The nation needs to fight for the citizens freedoms and defend the Second

carrying a handgun outside the citizen s property for self defense ( Concealed Guns ). If the law
had been passed, then DC would become a popular location for criminals because no one besides
local authority could protect themselves. Supporter of gun rights believe gun control laws go

Color Theory Research
Color fills our world with beauty. We delight in the colors of a magnificent sunset and in the
bright red and golden yellow leaves of autumn. We are charmed by gorgeous flowering plants
and the brilliantly colored arch of a rainbow. We also use color in various ways to add pleasure
and interest to our lives. For example, many people choose the colors of their clothes carefully and
decorate their homes with colors that create beautiful, restful, or exciting effects. By their selection
and arrangement of colors, artists try to make their paintings more realistic or expressive.
Color serves as a means of communication. In sports, different colored uniforms show which team

Such objects as traffic lights and neon signs appear colored because the light that they give off
contains a limited range of wavelengths. However, most objects appear colored because their
chemical structure absorbs certain wavelengths of light and reflects others. When sunlight strikes a
carrot, for example, molecules in the carrot absorb most of the light of short wavelengths. Most of
the light of longer wavelengths is reflected. When these longer wavelengths of light reach our eyes,
the carrot appears orange.
An object that reflects most of the light of all wavelengths in nearly equal amounts appears white.
An object that absorbs most of the light of all wavelengths in nearly equal amounts appears black.
How we see color
The roles of the eyes and brain. Our ability to see color depends on many highly complicated
workings of the eyes and brain. When we look at an object, light coming from the object enters
our eyes. Each eye focuses the light, forming an image of the object on the retina. The retina is a
thin layer of tissue covering the back and sides of the inside of the eyeball. It contains millions of
light sensitive cells. These cells absorb most of the light that falls on the retina and convert the light
to electrical signals. These electrical signals then travel through nerves to the brain.
The retina has two main types of

Pythagoras of Samos was born back in 570 BC (Before Christ) on the island of Samos, Greece.
Little did his parents, Mnesarchus and Pythias know that he would eventually be seen as the
first pure mathematician. Young Pythagoras was not the only child in his family, or only boy
for that matter, it is believed that he did have 2 or 3 brothers. Not much is known of his personal
life at home along with his family matters. Many people just have theories based on how he lived
away from mathematics. For example, some believe he was married and had a child that would
eventually be a teacher, and others believe he never married anyone and the lady he was believed
to be married to was just his student. Aside from his personal life at home, much is known about
his life in education. (1) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Evaluate two models of one cognitive process

particular cognitive process: the memory by evaluating two models, which are the Multi store
model introduced by Atkinson and Shiffrin in 1968 and the Working memory model by Baddeley
and Hitch in 1974. The first model is the multi store model. It was first proposed by Atkinson and
Shiffrin in 1968 and is a typical example of the information processing approach. According to this
model, memory consists of three types of memory stores: sensory stores, short term store and long
term store. Sensory stores consist of the eyes, nose, fingers, tongue, etc and the corresponding area
of the brain. The sensory stores... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The visuo spatial sketchpad when planned a spatial task and it saves memory temporarily. The
episodic buffer is the general store, it integrates info from the central executive, the phonological
loop and the visuo spatial sketchpad and forms long term store. Research evidence for the
working model of memory varies. Case studies of brain damaged patients support this model a
lot. The case study of KF a brain damaged patient with no problem with long term learning but
some aspects of his immediate memory were impaired. This has proven that the working model of
memory was right when suggesting that short term store works independently of long term store.
In addition to evidence supporting this model, Baddeley and Hitch did a research on making
participants do two tasks using the same or different components. Task one occupied the central
executive, task two either involved the articulatory loop or both the central executive and the
articulatory loop. Speed on task one was the same whether using the articulatory loop or no extra
task. This shows that doing two tasks that involve the same component causes difficulty. It also
suggested that when two different components are used, performance is not affected. Even though
the working model of memory is better than the multi store model, it still has some weaknesses.
For example the role of the central executive is vague and it needs more research. Also there were

Utilitarianism And Cultural Relativism
Jeremy Bentham is a teleological/consequential philosopher or consequentialist, one who focuses
on the consequences and ends instead of intention and actions. Bentham s focus carries more weight
than that of Immanuel Kant or John Stuart Mill and their views. Jeremy Bentham s philosophy
focuses on measuring pain and pleasure for the greatest number of morally significant beings
through their actions. Bentham presents guidelines that measure the intensity, duration, (un)
certainty, propinquity, fecundity, and extent of the pain and pleasure that a certain action beholds
and uses these measurements to determine if the action promotes the greatest good (being pleasure
in Bentham s case) for the greatest number of morally significant beings (Hoff 2017).
On the other hand, Cultural Relativism, focuses on a specific culture and their beliefs, practices,
and ethical values of that culture and how the culture s values are right for that specific culture or
group (Hoff 2017). Jeremy Bentham s philosophy of Act Utilitarianism would possibly criticize
cultural relativism due to the idea that a specific culture and their beliefs, practices, and ethical
values are right for that specific culture. Overall, a culture would possess a higher number of
morally significant beings who are pleasured in that culture due to the idea that that was all they
knew. Bentham would use that idea to measure the pleasure and pain of the morally significant
beings in that culture/society and

The Theory Of Self And Identity Essay
The idea of self and identity is highly intricate, and the self can either be one of three options: the
self is private, constructive, or a mixture of both. In the private viewpoint, the self is static,
founded on a set number of traits, values, and dispositions that will not change with time. The
constructivist theory argues that the self is changeable by nature and changes based on varying
circumstances. Then, there is the mixture idea, that these separate opposing ideas are connected,
as the way the self is developed and reflected upon is based on how the brain and individual
thoughts develop. This is highlighted in Gopnik s statement that, Ourselves shape our brains at
least as much as our brains our selves (Gopnik 2). When reflecting on Gopnik s article more it
seems only logical to think that some parts of the self is constructed, whereas other parts are
private, and this completely depends on the environment of the child. Parenting styles is one of
those environmental aspects, and it largely impacts how a child s socioemotional, and language
skills develop, which in turn has a ripple effect on how the child ultimately views their own
personality and self. The most telling test to measure socioemotional development of a child is
through attachment, and the most successful way to measure this is through the strange
experiment. Children are classed as insecure resistant, insecure disorganized, insecure avoidant, or
secure based on how they behave during the

European countries today, had had to make a bumpy and potholed journey. Basically in all
European countries, democracy was nebulous and uncertain in the 19th century, albeit in varying
degrees. In Britain, a parliamentary democracy was very much in full bloom, but the inherent love
and pride of the British people for their monarchy pre empted a switch to a full fledged democratic

How Does Smell Affect Taste
Mrs. Harris PD.3
Venice High school
Does smell affect the way you taste? Smell is based on sensors that detects different chemicals.
Your ability to smell comes from specialized sensory cells, called olfactory sensory neurons,
which are found in a small patch of tissue high inside the nose. These cells connect directly to the
brain. Each olfactory neuron has one odor receptor. 2 The sensors go off and then its sends a
message to your brain. Once the neurons detect the molecules, they send messages to your brain,
which identifies the smell. 2
On our tongue and throat there are taste buds and the react to food and drinks being mixed with
saliva. Many of the small bumps that can be seen on the tongue contain taste buds. These surface ...

The Long Term Effects Of Social Disadvantage Essay
to help industry and commerce make the most of its human resources. However, psychological
test data can also confront us with problems which are difficult to handle. Many of the
controversies which surround test use reflect existing problems in society. For example,
differences in test scores between blacks and whites in the United States are generally
considered to be a reflection of the long term effects of social disadvantage. Research shows that
these differences in test scores are not due to bias in the tests. They are real, and are predictive
of real social outcomes, to differences in academic attainment, differences in job performance,
and so on. Given the potential power of psychological tests as a tool, it is vital that they are used
carefully and appropriately. Use of tests should always be under the supervision of a competent
psychologist, or other suitably qualified, accredited person, and should always be carried out with
due regard for local cultural factors and for professional and ethical codes of practice. In the United
Kingdom, a national system of certification of test user competencies is now in place which is
based on standards for test use. In most countries, the national psychological association can
provide information and guidance covering the supply and use of tests, and standards for test
construction. Across countries, the International Test Commission liaises between national

Natalie Watkins Analysis
Natalie Watkins is a promising young artist born in Stockton, Ca. She began to study art at an
early age, and over the years has established herself as profound human being. She considers her
style of painting as a contemporary, and her works range from gender and sexuality to social
and political issues. Her art is showcased in cafes and small venues throughout Stockton, Ca. The
untitled painting, which is one of her early works, is painted in dark colors of grey and black
portraying a figure sitting alone on a dark and stormy night. The figure sits in the pouring rain in
the middle of a street watching a small sailboat, something similar to an old fashion pirate boat,
float away down the gutter. The artist hides most of the person including their face from the view
with a large umbrella. Most of the colors are in black and grey with the exception of the figures
sweater, which is in a bright yellow and the water which is painted in blue and white.
What do I notice from the paintings is a figure sitting all alone amidst a rainy storm as if he or she
awaits change at a turning point in their life. The starkness of the painting shows the figures
emotions and feelings are strong and yet there is always sunshine after the rain. ... Show more

Abstract
Cognitive processes helps to obtain information and make conscious and subconscious
assumptions about the world around us. There are five conventional senses are utilized in this
complex process as a way of gathering information. Cognitive processes are unobservable;
researchers remain to study ways to come up with behaviors or measures of performance to mirror
cognitive processes (Robinson Reigler Robinson Reigler, 2008). The intention of this paper is to

Learning is how we adapt, develop, change and grow. Language, explains how and why an
individual understands what another person has written or expressed (Gregory Robertson Riegler,
2008). When children acquire a п¬Ѓrst language, they build on what they know as well as
conceptual information that discriminates and helps create categories for the objects, relations and
events they experience. This provides the starting point for language from the age of 12 months on.
So children п¬Ѓrst set up conceptual representations, then add linguistic representations for talking
about experience (Denise Boyd, 2002).
Learning
Learning is distinguished from behavioral changes arising from such processes as maturation and
illness (Reuters, 2012). Learning is not just a change in behavior; it is a change in the way an
individual thinks, understands, or feels (Gregory Robertson Riegler, 2008). The ability to learn is
one of the most exceptional human characteristics. Learning occurs continuously throughout a
person s lifetime. To define learning, it is necessary to analyze what happens to the individual. An
individual s way of perceiving, thinking, feeling, and doing may change as a result of a learning
experience. Nevertheless, learning can be characterized as a change in behavior as a result of
experience. This can be physical and evident, or it may involve intricate intellectual or attitudinal
changes which affect behavior in more subtle ways (Colman, 2006). Learning

reduce health problems resulted from exposure to pollutants. The authorities has announced several
tips to prevent potential health problems caused by smog. The best way to stay isolated from
pollutants is either staying indoors or wearing masks outdoor. Accordingly, outdoor activities,
especially sports and exercise, are strongly not recommended. While staying indoor, residents could
utilize green plants and humidifiers to absorb and precipitate harmful substances. There is also an
interesting commercial phenomenon related to smogpollution. Many medical equipment
manufacturers have introduced mouth muffles that are advertised having function of filtering out

Compare and contrast of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein
Pop Art was a popular movement that formed in the 1950 s in Britain, and later formed in the
united states. When you think about pop art you think about three dimensional art. Well Pop art is
not about the form of the picture. Pop art is like an advertisement, news magazines and comic
books that catch the people s eyes. There were many artists like Eduardo Paolozzi, Richard
Hamilton, and Robert Rauschenberg, who presented pop art to the world especially in the united
states. Pop art is also not about the pictures and how bright and colorful it is. Pop art is really about
what message is provoked to the viewers.
Andy Warhol was a well known artist during the pop art movement. He was born in a big city
named Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 6, 1928. Andy Warhol attended a college named
Carnegie Institute of Technology. After graduating from college in 1949 he made his first project
for Glamour magazine. While in New York, Warhol created window displays and advertising for
the local New York retailers. One of Warhol works that made him locally famous was his blotted

Narrative art tells a story through the use of images that spark imagination, evoke emotions, and
capture universal cultural truths and aspirations. Winslow Homer did just that in his most famous
painting, The Gulf Stream , from 1899. The elements of art and principles of design are impeccably
utilized by Homer in this paintingand arouse all types of feelings and emotions within the viewer. I,
myself, was struck with a number of emotions, mostly of sadness and fear for the man, among other
feelings. Therefore, I believe Homer did a great job at communicating his ideas through the
painting. The painting subtly brings the issue of racism to the attention of the viewers without

You respond differently when you can empathize with the characters. The man in the boat
immediately makes me feel sad for him, and fearful of what will happen; although his fate seems
to be pretty obvious. If I put myself in his shoes, I would be terrified. However, I can also
understand his submissive attitude; whatever will be, will be. There is nothing he can do so he
might as well sit back and enjoy the ride, so to speak. The boat on the horizon is just a small
glimmer of hope, but I feel like he has a better chance of drifting to land than being seen by the

Nursing Theorist Grid
Nursing Theorist Grid 1.Theorist Selected: Jean Watson 2.Description of key points of the theory:

carative to classify nursing and medicine. The carative factors aim at the caring process. There are
10 carative factors each one involving a lived experience from all involved in the relationship,

students to be prepared to care for patients as a whole, as well as educating nurses on the
importance of being non judgmental, will make building a trusting relationship with the patient
leisurelier. Nurses are taught earlier in nursing school the importance of caring for a patient and
keeping their environments comfortable. Students and nurses who are taught to practice Watson s
theory, gain education that is focused on caring as its center. It is not only important for the nurse
to practice what they are taught but to also educate the patient. Watsons theory of caring applies to
most nursing research. Almost all nursing research involves the caring model. A variety of
research has been achieved with its focus on caring and nursing. Caring or not caring can have
both positive and negative consequences. Research has proven that the biogentic level, the deepest
level of a caring relationship, was in connection with true caring. This level of caring is related to
the transpersonal caring theory. Research also shows that the level of non caring, known as the
biocidic level, leads to annoyance, frustration, and non healing (Watson 2006). Health The harmony
and peace within the mind, body, and the soul. She defined health as the similarity between the
alleged self and the self that is known.Nursing Nursing Is a caring and meaningful bond that

The Use Of Engines Powered By Gasoline Plan of Investigation At the turn of the 20th Century, the advent of a number of new technologies posed to change the economy and society of the United States. One such technology was the internal combustion engine, which, after the last 100 years of common use, can be considered one of the most influential technologies of the 20th century. The rapid rise in the use of engines powered by gasoline is commonly attributed to the popularity of the Model T car introduced by Henry Ford in 1908. On the subject of the emergence of gas engines, he recalls that They were received with interest rather than enthusiasm and I do not recall any one who thought that the internal combustion engine could ever have more than a limited use. • 4. The Generation Of The World Essay This distinction allows Athanasius to argue that the Arians had confused the ideas of offspring with creature and the verbs to beget with to create. What becomes apparent from the above Athanasian text is that the decisive factor which defines the distinction between offspring and creature is the person of the Father and his role in the generation of the Son and the creation of the world. Athanasius task becomes proving that the Father is portrayed in the Bible as personally involved in the generation of the Son as opposed to the creatures who exist outside of him. In this effort he turns to Psalms and examines three texts: Psalm 2:7 ( The Lord said to me, My son you are; today I have begotten you ), Psalm 44:2 ( My heart spoke a good word ), and Psalm 109:3 ( From the womb, before Morning star, I brought you forth ) and synthesizes them with verses speaking of the Father s direct relation to the Son (Matt. 3:17; John 8:42; 6:46). Matt. 3:17, 17:5 The Father s personal relationship with the Son is perhaps nowhere more evident than in the baptism and transfiguration (Mat. 3:17, 17:5; Mark 1:11, 9:7; Luke 3:22, 9:35). Traditionally interpreted along Trinitarian terms Athanasius makes use of this voluntary declaration of the Father with the Son as describing Jesus natural sonship. By focusing on the Father s initiative as an unprecedented occurrence he argues that if the generation of the Son did not differ essentially from the creation of other beings and he were ... Approximately 90 minutes after being asleep, people enter rapid eye movement (REM) sleep (4). REM sleep consists of rapid eye movements, a desynchronized EEG, sensitivity to external stimulation, muscle paralysis and dreaming (4). Sleepwalking occurs during stages 3 and 4 of the sleep cycle, the deepest levels of sleep. This slow wave sleep is normally characterized by synchronized EEG activity (4). This indicates that mental activity is very low during these stages of sleep. However researchers have shown that the EEG of a sleepwalker has diffuse, rhythmic, high voltage bursts of delta activity associated with abrupt motor activity (1). This is very different from the EEG activity normally associated with slow wave sleep. In addition to the EEG results, they found that there is a decrease in regional cerebral blood flow in the frontopariental cortices during sleepwalking (1). This indicates that sleepwalking is a dissociated state consisting of motor arousal and persisting mind sleep, which seems to arise from the selective activation of thalamocingulate circuits and the persisting inhibition of other thalamocortical arousal systems (3). The abandonment of professional autonomy could help to resolve some problem in compliance with health care regulations. Dissecting Clarke s Cosmological Argument Dissecting Clarke s Cosmological Argument In the following paper, I will outline Samuel Clarke s Modern Formulation of the Cosmological Argument and restate some of the points that he makes. Samuel Clarke s argument for the existence of God states that There has existed from eternity some one unchangeable and independent being (37). The argument follows a logical flow and can be better understood when the structure is laid out and the argument reconstructed. Clarke begins his argument with a use of disjunctive syllogism, a form of valid logical reasoning that proposes two outcomes, denies one, and thus proves the other to be true. Since the universe has parts that come into existence at one occasion and not another, it must have a cause. There could supposedly be an infinite regress of causes if there was evidence for such, but lacking such evidence, God must exist as the cause.Clarke does not specifically identify God at any point in his argument. We already took a pay cut in our schooling system because of that, and the money that is going towards our schools are either going to public or private schools. But is it really necessary for the government to fund private schools when students already have to pay tuition? The government should be funding more towards public schooling. By funding private schools, what will happen to the public schools that rely on that money from the government to provide an education to the students in their community? What if the public schools close, and the only other option that is reasonably close is a private school? A lot of people cannot afford the tuition cost of private schools. Grant who was president during this time tried to honor the Treaty of Fort Laramie (PBS n.d.) but the miners demanded government protection from the Native Americans (Clark n.d.). When Grant gave into the pressure the federal government issued an order requiring all Indians to move onto reservations by January 31, 1876, otherwise they would be considered hostile (PBS n.d.). Many of the Indians didn t hear about the order while others simply ignored it. So Grant decided to send troops to the Dakota territory to fight the Native Americans. • 25. Statistical Control Charts Essay Introduction and History of Statistical Process Control Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a method of controlling the quality of a manufacturing process and is most often affiliated with control charts. However, SPC in reality is a group of tools and includes additional statistical and evaluation/measurement methods. Smith, Megahed, Jones‐Farmer and Clark defined seven basic tools of SPC including; histograms, check sheets, Pareto charts, cause and effect diagrams, defect concentration diagrams, scatter diagrams and of course the aforementioned control charts (2014). These tools represent the scope and overall purpose/pursuit of SPC which is; any statistical method designed to detect changes in a process over time (Woodall Montgomery, 1999, p. 377). Since control charts is often the most discussed of these seven tools; it is important to note there are many different types of control charts. The main control charts include; process charts which are R charts and s charts, non conforming item charts also known as p charts and np charts and finally average numbers of non conformity charts or c charts and u charts (Woodall Montgomery, 1999). Statistical Process Control experienced its most significant growth and expansion during the quality revolution in the 1980 s (Woodall Montgomery, 1999). It was during this time period that the focal point of quality changed from being merely acceptance or customer defined quality criteria to actual process control (Woodall ... When sunlight strikes a carrot, for example, molecules in the carrot absorb most of the light of short wavelengths. Most of the light of longer wavelengths is reflected. When these longer wavelengths of light reach our eyes, the carrot appears orange. An object that reflects most of the light of all wavelengths in nearly equal amounts appears white. An object that absorbs most of the light of all wavelengths in nearly equal amounts appears black. How we see color The roles of the eyes and brain. Our ability to see color depends on many highly complicated workings of the eyes and brain. When we look at an object, light coming from the object enters our eyes. Each eye focuses the light, forming an image of the object on the retina. The retina is a thin layer of tissue covering the back and sides of the inside of the eyeball. It contains millions of light sensitive cells. These cells absorb most of the light that falls on the retina and convert the light to electrical signals. The first model is the multi store model. It was first proposed by Atkinson and Shiffrin in 1968 and is a typical example of the information processing approach. The case study of KF a brain damaged patient with no problem with long term learning but some aspects of his immediate memory were impaired. This has proven that the working model of memory was right when suggesting that short term store works independently of long term store. In addition to evidence supporting this model, Baddeley and Hitch did a research on making participants do two tasks using the same or different components. Task one occupied the central executive, task two either involved the articulatory loop or both the central executive and the articulatory loop. Speed on task one was the same whether using the articulatory loop or no extra task. This shows that doing two tasks that involve the same component causes difficulty. It also suggested that when two different components are used, performance is not affected. Even though the working model of memory is better than the multi store model, it still has some weaknesses. For example the role of the central executive is vague and it needs more research. Also there were problems with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Utilitarianism And Cultural Relativism Jeremy Bentham is a teleological/consequential philosopher or consequentialist, one who focuses on the consequences and ends instead of intention and actions. Bentham s focus carries more weight than that of Immanuel Kant or John Stuart Mill and their views. Jeremy Bentham s philosophy focuses on measuring pain and pleasure for the greatest number of morally significant beings through their actions. Bentham presents guidelines that measure the intensity, duration, (un) certainty, propinquity, fecundity, and extent of the pain and pleasure that a certain action beholds and uses these measurements to determine if the action promotes the greatest good (being pleasure in Bentham s case) for the greatest number of morally significant beings (Hoff 2017). On the other hand, Cultural Relativism, focuses on a specific culture and their beliefs, practices, and ethical values of that culture and how the culture s values are right for that specific culture or group (Hoff 2017). Jeremy Bentham s philosophy of Act Utilitarianism would possibly criticize cultural relativism due to the idea that a specific culture and their beliefs, practices, and ethical values are right for that specific culture. • 32. The Theory Of Self And Identity Essay The idea of self and identity is highly intricate, and the self can either be one of three options: the self is private, constructive, or a mixture of both. In the private viewpoint, the self is static, founded on a set number of traits, values, and dispositions that will not change with time. The constructivist theory argues that the self is changeable by nature and changes based on varying circumstances. Then, there is the mixture idea, that these separate opposing ideas are connected, as the way the self is developed and reflected upon is based on how the brain and individual thoughts develop. This is highlighted in Gopnik s statement that, Ourselves shape our brains at least as much as our brains our selves (Gopnik 2). When reflecting on Gopnik s article more it seems only logical to think that some parts of the self is constructed, whereas other parts are private, and this completely depends on the environment of the child. Parenting styles is one of those environmental aspects, and it largely impacts how a child s socioemotional, and language skills develop, which in turn has a ripple effect on how the child ultimately views their own personality and self. However, psychological test data can also confront us with problems which are difficult to handle. Many of the controversies which surround test use reflect existing problems in society. For example, differences in test scores between blacks and whites in the United States are generally considered to be a reflection of the long term effects of social disadvantage. Research shows that these differences in test scores are not due to bias in the tests. They are real, and are predictive of real social outcomes, to differences in academic attainment, differences in job performance, and so on. Given the potential power of psychological tests as a tool, it is vital that they are used carefully and appropriately. Use of tests should always be under the supervision of a competent psychologist, or other suitably qualified, accredited person, and should always be carried out with due regard for local cultural factors and for professional and ethical codes of practice. This provides the starting point for language from the age of 12 months on.
