Contraption is made out of many materials that work together to protect the egg. When it drops, the
cotton surrounding (along with the balloons) provide some cushioning for a softer landing. It lands

Theirs landed 3.55 seconds, and had a very soft landing with very little impact. One of their
strengths was definitely the amount of balloons they had attached to their contraption to increase
drag.We had some very important strengths and weaknesses that we discovered in doing this
experiment. One of our weaknesses was the lack of balloons we had to increase drag, thus
reducing the impact to a lower level. We had two main strengths. the first strength was the cotton
surrounding the popsicle stick protecting platforms. The cotton prevented less impact even
though there wasn t any drag to slow the fall. The other strength we discovered was the amount
of rubber bands we had used on the contraption to keep things tight, steady, and in place. The
rubber bands help out a lot, especially when you re dealing with trying to stabilize popsicle stick
platforms and securing the egg. if I had the chance to fix or add any supplies, or build anything on
the contraption differently, I would definitely increase the amount of balloons to help with
cushioning and slowing down the fall, and build a different kind of platform that would be more
sturdy and easy to work

The Usefulness of Sociological Theories in Explaining...
The Usefulness of Sociological Theories in Explaining Crime and the Control of Crime
This paper seeks to explore the usefulness of Sociological Theories in explaining crime and
whether in doing so there arises implications for probation practice. I shall begin by providing a
brief explanation for the historical development of criminological thinking, starting with
Classicism and moving onto Positivism both which lay the foundations for the development of
sociological theories in the 1960 s and 1970 s. Analysis of the literature has highlighted the vast
array of theories to which my attention will be paid. However, due to the limitations of this piece
of work and in order to provide an in depth account ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Classical thinking viewed individuals as free willed rational decision makers whose choice to
commit crime was guided by hedonism, in terms of maximum pleasure for minimum pain. The
focus of Classicism was on the crime and not the social or physical chrematistics of the offender. It
was also based on what Beccaria termed a social contract , a contractual relationship between the
individual and the state to which individuals within society were bound. He believed that a social
contract drawn up by rational people would create the greatest happiness for the greatest number
(Rosher 1989, p5) and would mean that,
individuals would be willing to grant Governments the power to punish to the extent that was
necessary to protect themselves from the crimes of others (Cavadino Dignan 2002, p46).
The social contract required individuals to sacrifice a portion of their personal liberty in the interest
of common good and the purpose of the law was to ensure that common interest were met. Beccaria
proposed that perpetual servitude had a greater deterrent effect than capital punishment and would
therefore deter individuals from committing crime.
Criticisms of this school of thought spurred the emergence of Positivism. In contrast to Classicism,
Positivism aims to search for the

Big Five Personality Test Essay
The Big 5 Personality Test The Big Five model of personality traits is a widely accepted and
popular framework in personality psychometrics that is aimed at assessing personality according to
traits. Traits refer to an individual s stable characteristics that predispose them to behave in
particular ways across contexts (de Bruin Taylor, 2013). In other words, trait psychologists aim to
assess the consistencies in an individual s behaviour in order to gain insight into the individual s
general ways of interacting with people and the environment. Using factor analysis on multiple
personality scales, psychologists have described and summarised personality traits in terms of five
broad traits: Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion,... Show more content on

Our ways of interacting with others and the environment are affected by an innumerable amount of
factors such as; our cultural context, the particular social situation we are placed in, our health and
financial situation, relation with others, our early childhood experiences etc. Due to this, the one
size fits all approach that many theoretical models of personality follow is problematic (Borghans,
Duckworth, Heckman ter Weel, 2008). The approach stems from the increasing rate of
globalisation: commercial companies are hiring many international employees, placing a high
demand on psychologists to develop aptitude, intelligence as well as personality tests (Moyle,
2015). However, personality assessments and applications have strong use within Western
countries, this means that the norms of what normal (and thereby non pathological) personality
have been developed according to Western culture. Simply translating the personality test into
another language and distributing it to another culture, as has been done in the past, is
inappropriate and problematic. For example, personality research has demonstrated that participants
with a Chinese cultural history score lower on extraversion than their Western counterparts (Cheung
Cheung, 2003). Therefore we can see that the major challenge facing psychometrists in this field
involves the complex issues of adapting personality tests appropriately across

Summary Of Parmenide
In just 20 lines in section 11.8 of his poem, Parmenides gives at least three arguments for why
what is is ungenerated. I will present and explain each argument, the first two briefly and the last at
more length because I consider his third argument to be his most comprehensive. Last, I will
address his explanation of why what is is imperishable.
Argument 1.
Any given thing requires a reason to be generated, including what is (supplied)
It makes no sense to say that a reason suddenly existed for what is to be generated (11.8, 9 10)
Therefore what is was not generated (11.8, 11)
This argument takes place in the space of just a few lines, in which Parmenides poses a question
what need would have roused it, later or earlier, to grow, having begun from nothing? (11.8, 9
10). It here refers to what is. He assumes that everything has a reason to be generated some
specific need but he cannot see why this reason would suddenly appear. The phrase later or earlier
might point to how difficult it is to believe that at an arbitrary moment in time what is suddenly had
a reason to spring into existence. If no such need could have appeared, then what is could not have
been generated.
Parmenides applies this argument specifically to what is being generated from what is not, or
having begun from nothing (11.8, 10). And the argument certainly does seem to challenge the
idea of generation from nothing, but I have left it neutral as regards the source of what is in my
reconstruction here. I did this because I believe he can also apply Argument 1 to challenge the
idea of generation from what is, not only from what is not. It should apply to both because the
only way to say that what is is not generated is to show that it is generated from neither what is not,
nor what is. More on this in Argument 3.
Argument 2.
Someone or something must bring any given thing, including what is, into existence (supplied)
No one can make anything come into existence (11.8, 12)
Therefore what is cannot be generated (11.8, 13 14)
This is a difficult argument to suss out, especially since once again it takes place in only three
lines. But he says that the force of conviction cannot make anything come to be out of

Safe Injection Sites Essay
Safe injection sites are medically supervised and legally sanctioned facilities that provide a clean
and safe environment for illicit drug users when consuming drugs, mostly intravenous drugs. Safe
injection sites have been a controversial topic in Canada for over fifteen years. Currently there is
only one safe injection sitein Canada located in Vancouver and there are various requests to open
safe injection sites in other Canadian cities. The main opposition comes from the Canadian Federal
Government due to possible conflicts with international laws. There are several first world nations
that have opened safe injection sites and have been very successful for harm reduction of both, drug
users and the general community. In Vancouver, studies have

The safe injection site in Vancouver, called InSite, has been in operation since 2003. The setup of
this facility was possible due to an exemption to Canada s drug laws and treaties permitted by the
then Liberal government (Hooper, Knight, Quinn, 2010). Dooling and Rachlis indicate that in 2008
Harper s Conservative government advised that such exemptions would lapse, forcing the closure
of InSite (as cited in Hooper et al., 2010). InSite remains open after a British Columbia Supreme
Court Judge found that sections of the controlled drugs and substances act were inconsistent with
the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (Hooper et al., 2010, p. 3); this required the
Canadian Federal government to adjust the criminal code accordingly, allowing InSite to remain in
operation. Dooling and Rachlis indicate that the Federal government has appealled this decision

Hormonal Imbalance Research Paper
Various reasons have been proven as to why people begin suffering from hair loss. Hormonal
imbalance is vital to a healthy, cancer free mind and body but can be disrupted in many ways. It
can be caused by things like toxins, menopause, perimenopause, or living an unbalanced lifestyle. A
human s hormonal cycle can and does vary at multiple different times in our lives, therefore
allowing this to have a direct impact on the quality of hair. This phase is said to be very common
and is able to occur in anyone s life. Hormonal imbalance is experienced by women many times
during her pregnancy. During these nine months, as everyone may have already experienced,
women s hormones tend to be all over the place. Once she has given birth, those hormones... Show

The case is about the same with thyroid hormones. The hypothalamus is apart of the brain that
produces thyroid releasing hormones. This hormone pairs with what is known as our pituitary
gland to begin the production of a thyroid stimulating hormone. This pairing up acts on the thyroid
in order to produce thyroid hormones, which travel through our bodies.
Hirsutism is the name given to male patterned hair growth in females. Women who have this
condition grow dark hair on their face, feet, chest, stomach, and back. Acne, deep voice, irregular
periods, and small breasts are more symptoms of this condition. Sometimes there is no cause that
can be identified for facial hair growth in women. With respects to the relationships between
hormones and our hair growth, the role of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) hirsutism is best
acknowledged(). Accordingly, therapeutic strategies that intervene in androgen metabolism have
been successfully developed for treatment of these conditions. Clinical observations of hair
conditions involving hormones beyond the androgen horizon have determined their role in
regulation of hair growth. These roles include being growth hormones, estrogens, cortisone, and
thyroid hormones. Primary GH resistance is characterized by thin hair, while acromegaly may
cause hypertrichosis. This causes hair loss and

I believe this to be true for the simple fact that fate is already pre determined, something that you
cannot change. A mans mind is always undecided and, lost for a way to go but fate is unparralled
in its decisiveness. A mans mind is far weaker than fate making this a viable statement.

A lyric poem is one that expresses intense personal emotions. The Seafarer mixes pagan with
Christian beliefs and expresses sorrow for something lost or past. At times the poet s feelings seem
to border on despair.
10. What deep personal feelings does the poet express in the first part of The Seafarer that show

The purpose of the report is create awareness and understanding of the Reduction of carbon content
and recycling of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) components and to highlight
the opportunities for timely action by researchers and practitioners in this field. Through examples
from a diversity of literature sources this paper defines the problems and the scope of ICT
environmental sustainability.
In order to save the organization a protocol must be used to provide a framework that estimate the
carbon content. The organization must prefer to outsource some of the equipment which produces
more carbon. Otherwise different infrastructure can be built to dump the out dated products. The
equipment can be reuse or sold at the lower rate instead of dumping. The advanced and best

However inoculations against any disease is needed must , by inoculations we can also prevent

Canada Charter Of Rights Essay
Growing up in a world where you only know life sheltered by the Canadian Charter of Rights and
Freedoms it s easy not to appreciate the security it provides. It can also be a foregone conclusion
that this generation of Canadians couldn t imagine life without the privileges of the charter. Still,
there is an argument that Canadians were better off before the charter was included in the
Constitution of Canada.
The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms was not the first enactment that afforded Canadians
with principles. Constitutional rights in Canada date all the way back to 1791 and the
Constitutional Act, 1791. After confederation the first separation of federal and provincial powers

Rhetorical Analysis Of Dumpster Diving
Dumpster Diving and it s Honorable Niche
There are many people who choose to live their life based on what they find in dumpsters. You
can spot them almost anywhere because there is a great population of them. Many people that see
one of these dumpster divers view them as disgusting or inappropriate to society. People are quick
to judge others when they do not relate to how they live their life. ВЁOn Dumpster DivingВЁ by
Lars Eighner is a short excerpt from his memoir Travels with Lizbeth , he begins to explain that
dumpster diving is not a bad activity as most view it as. He talks from a dumpster diver s
perspective, and tries to prove that dumpster diving is resourceful. Eighner applies the three
rhetorical appeals to establish his argument that dumpster diving is an ВЁhonorable nicheВЁ,
although he uses ethos the most to support his position.
To begin with, ethos was a big appeal that Eighner used to convince his readers that dumpster
diving is an honorable activity. He begins to explain his own experience in dumpster diving, and
how it is something honorable to him. Ethos is described as having, ВЁ... personal warmth,
consideration of others, a good mind and solid learningВЁ (Fahnestock, 1). So, when arguing
ethos, the person has to be relying and with experience. Eighner does give many examples from
his personal perspective as a dumpster diver, and makes him a reliable source. In the short
excerpt, ВЁOn Dumpster DivingВЁ, Eighner explains, ВЁ...and because I visited the dumpster
regularly I knew what was fresh and what was yesterday sВЁ (24). As a person with experience
in dumpster diving, he explains that he can tell the difference between what has been recently
thrown away and what has already been there for a while, and with that he knows what is good
to use and what is not. This is a good factor of dumpster diving because he does not need to spend
any money like others, he just relies on what others throw away. Also, Eighner explains, The
student does not know that, and since it is Daddy s money, the students decide not to take a chance
(26). Eighner describes those who are unresourceful as rich, spoiled, kids that do not know how to
occupy what they have wisely. In this case dumpster divers take advantage

Third Party Forgiveness Examples
Third Party Forgiveness
The major findings in this article were that reactions to offenses frequently tend toward retaliation
rather than forgiveness and that first parties generally are more likely to forgive offenses than are
third parties. Continuing to study both first party and third party forgiveness through cognitive
evaluations as well as the interdependent nature of relationships can have important implications for
forgiveness promoting interventions, thereby helping individuals reach forgiveness.
In this article two experiments tested the hypothesis that close friends of victims are less forgiving
than the victims themselves. In Experiment 1, individuals imagined a scenario in which either their
romantic partner or the romantic partner of a close friend committed an offense. Third parties were
less forgiving than first parties, a phenomenon we termed the third party forgiveness effect. In
Experiment 2, first and third parties reported an actual offense and their unforgiving motivations that

themselves, despite the fact that an offense was not directed at them. This could be due to the fact
that close friends or family members of both perpetrator and victim may take sides and feel
intimately involved in an offense and its aftermath. Those close to the victim may feel wronged or
deeply hurt themselves. They may believe that they are entitled to forgive or not forgive the
perpetrator. Interpersonally, they may even influence the victim s decision to forgive or the victim s
process of emotional forgiveness. Interpersonal definitions and models of forgiveness focus almost

What Is The Election Of 1912 Slogan
Presidential Election of 1912 In the presidential election of 1912 the Democrat Woodrow

in America. Some of the issues were; the Conservation of Natural Resources, Direct Democracy,
Labor, Race, Tariff, Trusts and Regulation of Business, and votes for Women. Majority of the
people desired change, as would I if I were to have lived during this time period . My vote would
have been for Theodore Teddy Roosevelt, as the change he promises is fair compared to the
other candidates. Labor would be one of the issues that would be most important to me as a
voter. Working is part of life, it s necessary to be able to provide for your family. In 1912, the
working conditions were not safe or healthy. The long working hours, the dangerous work space,
the low pay all would make people desire change. As a voter, I would want to know that in the
future I would be safe at work with good pay to be able not to live in poverty. There were many
strikes that occurred, demanding change in labor in 1912. In the Lawrence Strike, people fought
for higher wages, shorter hours, safer working conditions, regulation of woman and child labor,
and workmen s compensation. Another issue that would be important to me as a voter would be
the tariff. The Tariff is a source of federal revenue. It s a way for the United States

The State Of Texas Is Not At Its Best Right Now
Public education in the state of Texas is not at its best right now. Students are not being challenged
to think anymore. As the second most populous state of the United States, I believe that Texas
should be at the top of public education not only in the country, but in the world. We should change
how and what teacher are teaching to students. Now days we go to schoolto memorize keywords so
we can graduate and get a diploma. After that, some students that don t go to college don t reuse the
information that was taught to them for four years, so basically the schools wasted resources and
money, and students lost time. I believe we can and should strike for greatness and change the
public educationsystem from head to toe. Learning is a fun activity to do and school should not
just be about going to class and learn how to pass an exam or get good grades in a class.
Learning is about gaining knowledge and applying that knowledge to learn and discover new

7.Regulation of CaCCs: The biophysical properties of CaCCs can be determined through varying
alternative splicing patterns on different exons of ANO gene. Though the dissimilar patterns
observed are believed not to change the overall topology of the channel 18,51, it is suggested that
alternative splicing can produce various channels with different biophysical properties, regulatory
mechanisms, and subcellular localizations 18,51,54. The EAVK sequence, as part of the first
intracellular loop in CaCCs, is regulated by alternative splicing 51 and believed to have a pivotal
role in biophysical and gating properties of the channel 43. Besides alternative splicing as a

High throughput screening of CaCCs can help us identify the specific activators and inhibitors of
these channels and with the help of fully controlled electrophysiological experiments combined
with biochemical and biophysical studies, we can unravel therapeutic targets of CaCCs for the
treatment of cystic fibrosis and other diseases related to chloride dysregulation. Though the
discovery of ANO1 and ANO2 as CaCCs has revolutionized our understanding of the great role
that anion s homeostasis could play in different physiological and pathological conditions, there
still are some important questions needed to be answered. In comparison to ANO1, ANO2
activation kinetics are faster 49, ANO2 has less sensitivity to Ca2+ concentrations 27 and provides
smaller single unit conductance 90, issues that should be considered more seriously upon realizing
why the existence of different ANO isoforms (ANO1 and ANO2) with diverse characteristics is
necessary in the cells. It is still unknown if these discrete characteristics can be assigned to specific
modules. In addition to other members of the Anoctamin family, other transmembrane proteins with
ambiguous function should be studied to see if they have the same characteristics of CaCCs or
other related channels and transporters responsible for the flow of Clв€’ and other anions across
the biological membranes. As well, the regulatory roles that cations can play in regard

The last is anticipating and responding to mission, things like critical events proactively
addressing strategic challenges, instead of reacting after the fact. These challenges have a
tremendous impact on an organization s overall performance. Thus, Deloitte came up with the
idea of partnership which focuses on strategic people issues, not just administration and
operating efficiency and deals the problem of keeping a sustainable advantage in the
marketplace. To achieve the goal of building partnership, this requires HR greatly upgrade its
talent and capabilities. However, at first they were weak in HR innovations. It is expensive,
difficult to achieve, and hard to sustain a good human resource strategy. To close the gap in
innovations, Deloitte had to either build or buy for HR. They finally chose to do both. They first
increase its investment in business related training in order to help HR staff improve their business
knowledge and experience. They also recruit leaders and staff with more aggressively, actively
attitudes to fill the shortage of talents. Deloitte believes that before HR can help the broader
organization address its strategic talent challenges, HR must first address its own talent challenges.
As the employee gets promoted to Partner, he can share out 10% bonus from Deloitte each year.

A Visit At The Bakersfield College Essay
A visit that I would like to discuss was with my 21 years old Native American female and her
newborn son in her home. The purpose of this home visit was to check how the infant was doing
because he was in the NICU after birth to rule out sepsis and also to check how the mother was
doing after the birth of her first child. She lives in her parent s house with her siblings and
boyfriend, and total seven people live in that house. The new mother is currently is not working,
but she is taking classes at the Bakersfield College. Her family is supportive, and the baby s father
is involved in the care of the Infant. Approximately 1/3 of Native Americans live in poverty and
experience the conditions related to poor living conditions such as tuberculosis, malnourishment,
and higher maternal and infant death rates (Allender, Rector, Warner, 2014). Some of the common
highest ranking health problems seen in Native American children are SIDS, congenital anomalies,
obesity, type II diabetes, and morbidity and mortality related to injuries (Allender et al., 2014).
Poor hygiene, packed housing conditions, and low immunization leads to the incidence of a variety
of contagious diseases in Native Americans (Allender et al., 2014). Native Americans prefer
customary healing and folk medicines compared to the Western medicine; they use plants and herbs
to cure illnesses (Allender et al., 2014). During this visit, I completed physical assessment of the

Waiting For Godot Literary Analysis
Literary texts such as short stories, poems, and dramatic texts are usually read for pleasure and
entertainment. They may be a haven for some who want to take a break from reality. When one
reads, he or she plunges into a new space, or a new world, created by the author s imagination. At
the same time, the reader is also seeing life and reality through the author s eyes. Literature reflects
the human life and condition in a way that it enables readers to relate with the characters and their
situations. It depicts how humans try to cling to life and search for its meaning and purpose.
However, life is truly meaningless and humans just create the illusion of desire to justify their own
existence. Some may think that characters from a story,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vladimir and Estragon are humans, and their repeated scenario is life. Life is meaningless. Man
just makes up the desire, the Godot, the illusion that life has meaning that he gives himself to
justify his own existence in this world. He continuously waits for Godot, even though he is not
certain if he will ever come. While they wait, they get distractions in Pozzo and Lucky, which
makes them believe that something is actually happening. Like in a man s life, he has distractions
while waiting for his desire to arrive. And because he feels that something is happening, he is led to
believe that life is not nothing after all and that he is heading somewhere because something is
happening.
Throughout the play, Estragon repeatedly tells Vladimir that they should leave and abandon the
wait, but Vladimir would always remind him that they cannot go and that We re waiting for Godot.
(Beckett 443) Vladimir and Estragon are actually man s two sides of thinking: Estragon is his
nagging thought: what if life is truly meaningless? What if this Godot is not really coming and this
long wait is all for nothing? But he also has Vladimir who reminds him: But what if you leave and

Evolution Of Moses Research Paper
The two key figures in Hebrew culture, God and Moses, evolve throughout the bible, but their
evolution is best seen in Exodus. The development of character is revealed when individuals are
placed in stressful situations, certainly in the bible both God and Moses are presented with
challenging situations which cause them to undergo change. However, because the book we are
reading is the bible, every action performed by a character and every change undergone is
representative of the ideal choice from the standpoint of the Hebrew culture. This means that every

However, because Moses is to become the leader of the Hebrew people, he is mentioned outside
exodus and his development is made clear through the Midrash, and much later in the bible in
Acts. One of the ways we see a definite change in Moses is shown in his humility. In Acts 7.25,
he believes that the Hebrews would see him as their savior after he killed the abusive taskmaster,
but that isn t the case. There is a huge change after 40 years of shepherding, when Moses is
asked by God to return to Egypt in Exodus 3.11, he responds Who am I that should go to
Pharaoh? showing that he has been humbled by his stay in a strange land. Another change that
occurs during this time, is Moses proving to God that he can be leader of God s chosen people.
This happens in the midrash of Exodus and referenced in Luke 15.4 6, and is the story of Moses
and the lost Sheep. The message presented is that if Moses would spend the whole day to go
after a lost sheep, what would he to find a lost member of his own flock . This change in Moses is
the reason why God allows him to return to Egypt and lead his

Theme Of The Carousel In Something Wicked This Way Comes
Sometimes the man who looks happiest in town, with the biggest smile, is the one carrying the
biggest load of sin. There are smiles and smiles; learn to tell the dark variety from the light.
(Bradbury 135) Written in 1962, Ray Bradbury s Something Wicked This Way Comes is a fantasy
fiction novel which depicts the mysterious experience two teenage boys encounter one October
night in Green Town, Illinois. Within Something Wicked This Way Comes, Ray Bradbury utilizes
symbolism of the carousel in order to reveal the primary theme:beware of even the most innocent
things, for they can be so nefarious.
To begin with, the author incorporates the carousel as a symbol of evil disguised as innocence. In
reality, the carousel is a distortion which represents the fears and desires wicked people feed off of
in order to acquire ultimate power. In the novel, the author often refers to the carousel since it is
almost portrayed as a vault which is constantly revolving and depending on the innocent who
succumb to the dark side when their greatest fears are put to the test. According to Bud Martin, we
are drawn in and root for children because their security is being encroached upon, and it is their
love and innocence that both can make them victims and save them, in the end. The carousel is by
far the most powerful and important symbol within and throughout the novel because it is
considered the powerhouse or main source of energy which thrives solely on the souls of the weak
and naive who

Prayer In Public Schools Research Paper
If we lived in the 20th century, before you started reading this paper, you would have had to
recite a prayer with your students. It is surprising to realize that our country once forced students
to say a prayer everyday before they started school. For a while, there were no complaints about
this. However, as our country started to progress, people began to see the problem with it. People
who opposed prayerin public school believed it was unconstitutional. Those who supported prayer
in school believed it had an influence on students by reminding them of their faith. These problems
were taken to court, where they took away prayer in public schools. Although they took out prayer
from public schools, there are still people who fight for it to... Show more content on

Their reasons for this are that it is unconstitutional and that individual prayer is already legal.
Their reasons are very strong, because they are backed up by amendments that our country was
founded on. Even though some their points are strong, they do have some fallacies. Their reasons
seem to be a slippery slope. A slippery slope is like sliding down a slope you cannot stop (Halpern,
2015). They are assuming that if the government allowed prayer in public schools, then the
government would be supporting only that certain religion. They also seem to have circular
reasoning. Their reason of The Establishment Clause and separation of church and state both end
with the fact that the government cannot force prayer in school is restating the conclusion.
The issue of prayer in public school seems to have been solved by the government taking away
prayer. But, as we have seen, there are still problems with both sides of the argument. One side of
the argument appeals to tradition and the other has circular reasoning. Religion is something that is
very important to some people. It should remain important to them, but there is a proper time and
place to practice worship. Worship should not be in a public place where education is the priority.
The government should have no involvement, directly or indirectly, with

Review of Social Psychology Book by Claude Steele
Claude Steele, in his book Whistling Vivaldi, sheds new light on how pervasive stereotypes can
influence individual s behavior and academic performance, and how they perpetuate in different
social groups. Stereotype threat, as defined by Steele, is being at risk of confirming, as self
characteristic, a negative stereotypeabout a social group one identifies with.
(Steele, 1997) It is a general phenomenon standard predicament of life that springs from
intersubjectivity. (p.5) We tend to spontaneously categorize and label people according to their
social groups. Whenever someone is placed in a situation where a certain stereotype can be applied
to themselves, they can be judged and treated accordingly. When individuals... Show more content

For example, Asian males are under the stereotype that they excel in math. When Asian males
who are relatively weak at math (compared to others in the group) are exposed to such identity
contingencies, they may be facing the fear of disconfirming the group s positive stereotype and
result in low performance. The pressure to perform as well as expected may create anxiety from
the possibility of being the atypical subtype of the group. Also, Walton has proposed a theory of
stereotype lift, which is enhancement in performance when people are exposed to negative
stereotype. (Walton Cohen, 2003) To strengthen the conclusions of the research, collecting samples
across populations with varying aspects should be considered.
Since stereotype threat has proven to be such a big factor affecting stereotyped individuals
academic achievement, many researchers have turned their attention toward reducing such threats.
Psychological intervention allowing minority students to become less susceptible to negative
stereotypes about the group s abilities significantly improved their performance at school for a long
time. Encouraging self affirmation allowed people to affirm their self worth and perceive
themselves as good and competent, improving their performance at school and reducing
accessibility of racial stereotypes. Self affirmation alleviated anxiety from psychological threat of

Naked Lunch Play Analysis
Naked Lunch
Naked Lunch is a play written by Michael Hollinger that talks about a couple that has been drifting
apart. Vernon tried to change his relationship with Lucy, and invite her to eat steak with him. As the
play starts, Vernon sees that Lucy isn t eating; rather playing with the food. Vernon confronts her
and she admits that she became a vegetarian after they have broken up. But, it was something she
had been thinking about and wanted to do, even when she was in the relationship with Vernon.
Throughout the play, Vernon thinks he was the reason why she became a vegetarian and tries to
get Lucy to eat the meat. He starts making her feel like a joke for trying to fulfill the life she
wants to live. Towards the end of the play, when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What I mean is, there is a deeper meaning that we have to understand. As I read the play multiple
times, I finally understood the deeper meaning behind it. One example would be that as the
couple was drifting apart, it shows a huge change on Lucy s side. When she stops eating meat, it
shows that she wants to be a better version of herself because she can now live the better and
healthier life of herself without having someone to stop her. That explains why she wanted to cut
Vernon out of her life. But, he doesn t understand why Lucy was pushing him to the side. I think
this is something that happens in relationships every day. A couple will break up and there is
always that one person who doesn t understand why things happen the way they happen and will
become offensive and abusive until things become the way they want. Another metaphor can be
seen from the steak. In the play, Vernon is forcing Lucy to eat the steak as he literally shoves it in
her mouth. That shows that in their relationship, he was controlling because as we can clearly see,
he doesn t value anything she wants or decides on her own. Instead, he tries to find loopholes to
put out what he wants. This also happens in abusive relationships because one person always
makes the decision and if the other person doesn t listen, something bad usually happens, and
sometimes makes it hard for them to be safe if they want to leave the

пѓ Strip Mining :
Stripping or strip mining is the evacuation of overburden or waste materials from open pit surface
mines. The procedure includes machines, for example, stripping scoops, basin wheel excavators, or
drag lines to strip away the stone and reveal the profitable metal that is being mined.
Significant minerals, for example, coal, ironstone, or limestone are revealed by a scoop that
burrows long strips or a machine that cuts and throws the overburden from the pit with a specific
end goal to uncover the metal. The stripping scoop normally sits on of the surface it is mining and
is moved forward as the burrowing propels.

Life is all about change. It s pretty obvious to most of us that the corollary states that if you stop

After all, in a year I may see things very differently. When I look back at the things I have
believed it is clear that many have withered away, seemingly to make room for the growth of new
ideas.
Perhaps this should discourage me from trying to form a personal philosophy but I can t be

value and what I repudiate, both within myself and in the world at large.

It s just a pity it sounds so serious.
Take a look at the people that you admire. Isn t it true to say that they clearly understand who
they are and what they stand for? Success doesn t always equate to admiration, at least in my
experience. I take great delight in a friend from my university days whose only notable
achievement is to have a loving marriage and be raising three wonderful children. A past
workmate of mine who was very successful and set to become even more so, made my list when
she decided her job didn t match her soul and left to become a Nun. There are heroes all around us,
so be on the lookout.
As the child of a loving and secure family environment, the only danger I faced was the risk of
growing into a bland adult. I ve got nothing against mashed potato but if given the choice I will
opt for Cajun style crawdads every time. Just as a good chef knows it is the unique favours that
define a dish, it is equally true that we should cultivate the special attributes that define ourselves.
At this point a canny reader may be thinking that I am advocating a culture of freaks; far from it.
What could be more frustrating than watching a profound idea watered down and clouded by a
mob of people who chase the image by affecting its surface traits. Let s break it down further.

shock at the news, what seemed to strike people more was that he passed right after playing the
part of the Joker in The Dark Knight. Not only did he do a fantastic job getting into character in
that film, some say he got a little too into character in this film, resulting in his death. At the time
of his demise, a controversy arose about whether or not his death was the result of suicide. Most
confirmed that this is not true. Regardless of that, what let him to self destructive behaviors? Was
it a psychological illness that was long brewing before the part in The Dark Knight, or was it
because of his brilliant character development? One must... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Acting became an emotional release for him, contrary to what the future role of the Joker seemed to
do. When he was sixteen years old, Ledger graduated early and went to Sydney to pursue acting.
He participated in TV shows and small films, before getting his big break in the international
movie 10 Things I Hate About You with Julia Stiles ( Heath Ledger
: Biography, n.d.). After that
movie he began to climb the ranks of Hollywood due to his undoubtable talent. He was won best
actor by a few critics and was nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards and Golden
Globes for his role in Brokeback Mountain. He ended up being the ninth youngest nominee for
the Academy Award at that time. Besides occupational successes, he also met his girlfriend
Michelle Williams while on the set and had a daughter with her in October of 2005.
Unfortunately, however, their relationship ended in 2007 ( Heath Ledger: Biography, n.d.).
When Ledger got the part of the Joker in Dark Knight, he fully invested himself in the character.
In this we can begin to see the large shift in his behavior that may have been because of an
already brewing disorder inside him. F0r those that don t know, the Joker is the villain in The
Dark Knight, a sadistic clown that wreaks havoc in Gotham. One can begin delving into Ledger
s psyche by looking at how he prepared for his part. His father reported that he had to have been in
a hotel for weeks, and indeed Ledger himself reported to Empire Magazine, I sat

Pennsylvania Hall Speech By Angelina Grimke
Angelina Grimke, was born February 20, 1805 to Mary Smith Grimke and John Faucheraud
Grimke and was also the youngest of fourteen children. She stood for so many things, as a
reformer. She was a lady who wanted nothing more than to change the world. From the age of
three Angelina was very impacted by slavery. She tried to help free slaves and she also could not
stand to seem them tortured or the after effects of the torture. When it came time for her to be
confirmed in the church she refused because she knew that the church was fond of slavery and that
was just not something that she stood for. When she was thirteen years old her sister Sarah left the
familyplantation to become a Quaker because she too opposed slavery. On one of Sarah s trips...

She also uses details such as the ways that the crowd reacted to her speech such as [a yell from

was quite a large number of people who did not agree with what she had to say on the matter of
slavery she did not care and she continued to preach about it. There were people who were
throwing bricks at the windows and shouting during her speech and she still continued to try and
get the people to side with her. The overall effectiveness of the document were not immediate. At
first, the people were still very hesitant to break the bonds of slavery. They were a people who
were afraid of change and were afraid of people who did not look like them. They did not want to

Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory
Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory and Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory are two well
known theories of personality development with various similarities and differences. While
Erikson was influenced by Freud s ideas, his theory differed in a number of important ways and
was ultimately created to be an improvement to Freud s personality development theory
(Friedman Schustack, 2012). Like Freud s psychosexual theory, Erikson agreed that personality
progresses in a sequence of predetermined phases. However, unlike Freud s theory of
psychosexual stages, Erikson s theory describes the impact of social experience across the
whole lifespan (Hoare, 2005). According to Freud s psychosexual theory, personality develops
across 5 sexual stages while Erikson s develops among 8 social stages. Freud s theory has fewer
stages due to his belief that the last stage of identity develops during adolescence, while Erikson s
theory had more stages because he believed an individual s identity continually evolved over their
entire lifetime (Hoare, 2005). The 5 stages of Freud s theory: Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latency and
Genital, will be discussed, compared and contrasted with Erikson s 8 stages: Trust vs. Mistrust,
Autonomy vs. Doubt, Initiative vs. Guilt, Industry vs. Inferiority, Identity vs. Role Confusion,
Intimacy vs. Isolation, Generativity vs. Stagnation, and Integrity vs. Despair (Passer, Smith,
Atkinson, Mitchell Muir, 2011). Each stage in Erikson s theory involves a

Analyzing Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
Knowledge
Title
Truman Capote chose the title In Cold Blood possibly because Dick and Perry murdered four
innocent members of a family. The term of cold blood is defined as without feeling or with cruel
intent and that is evident in the novel. Dick and Perry killed these member of family with pretty
much no reason in doing so and the deaths were brutal. This is an obvious reason for the title
name but maybe there is a hidden meaning in the title. The little town of Holcomb was a very
peaceful place where everyone had their doors unlocked and they all trusted one another. Dick and
Perry took the towns feeling of security and comfort once they committed this act.

The setting of this novel takes place in Holcomb, Kansas, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

it was a possible robbery.
6.Floyd Wells snitches on the two mean and tells investigators about him and Dick s conversations
about the Clutter family.

8.They enter in and out of Kansas safely and that convinces the two that they will never be traced
with the murders of the clutter family.
9.However, they get caught on December 30, 1959 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Should Human Cloning Be Allowed In The USA
My topic was that I researched was Should Human Cloning be Allowed in the USA. I am for this
because it can be a medical breakthrough. I am for it because it can cure many things the people
struggle with every day. For example, I will talk about how people die from cancer and how we
can stop it. And I will also be talking about how cloning can make transplants and saves even more
people. And how humancloning can be bad and how it can affect us in the real world and how it
can affect our supplies on this world.

Coca Cola s Annual Report Form Essay
Coca Cola is the number one non alcoholic beverage company in the world (Coca Cola Company,
2016). Even though it is considered one of the most famous brands in the world, it is always
trying to differentiate themselves from their competitors such as Pepsi Corporation, Dr. Pepper
Snapple, and Monster Beverages (Hoovers, 2016). In the article Coca Cola Brews Up Big Plans
for U.S. by Jay Moye, states, Recently, Coca Cola has announced that they will soon produce,

in grocery stores, convenience stores, and in Dunkin Donuts restaurants (Moye, 2016). This is

customers who have a high demand for energy/caffeine. This new announcement has Coca Cola
hoping they will attract coffee lovers by marketing and promoting these new products. Coca Cola

Forrest Hall Building For University Essay
I agree with the students who want to change the name of the Forrest Hall Building on MTSU
campus, because I think our students have the responsibility as those with the power to change this
name since we don t want to our state university to represent something hateful. When MTSU built
its ROTC building in 1954, President Smith named it Forrest Hall in honor of Nathan Bedford
Forrests reputation as an interpid confederate cavalry leader who won fame with his brilliant
raids. Maybe that was Forrest s reputation in 1954, but in 2015 Forrest s reputation becomes one of
hate, racism, and violence. We do not want or need that at MTSU. A quick background on Nathan

HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW March April 2000
N THE BATTLE TO CAPTURE THE CUSTOMER,
companies use a wide range of tactics to ward off competitors. Increasingly, price is the weapon
of choice and frequently the skirmishing degenerates into a price war. Creating low price appeal is
often the goal, hut the result of one retaliatory price slashing after another is often a precipitous
decline in industry profits. Look at the airline price wars of r992. When American Airlines,... Show

By understanding their causes and characteristics, managers can make sensihle decisions about
when and how to fight a price war, when to flee one and even when to start one. The first step,
then, is diagnosis. Consider a small commodities supplier that suddenly found that its largest
competitor had slashed prices to a level well below the small company s costs. One option the
smaller company considered was to lower its price in a tit for tat move. But that price would have
heen below the suppher s marginal cost; it would have suffered debilitating losses. Fortunately, a
few phone calls revealed that its adversary was attempting to drive the supplier out of the local
market by underpricing its products locally but maintaining high prices elsewhere. The supplier
correctly diagnosed the pricing move as predatory and elected to do two things. First, the manager
called customers in the competitor s home market to let them know that the price cutter was
offering special deals in another market. Second, he called local customers

One of our weaknesses was the lack of balloons we had to increase drag, thus reducing the impact to a lower level. We had two main strengths. the first strength was the cotton surrounding the popsicle stick protecting platforms. The cotton prevented less impact even though there wasn t any drag to slow the fall. The other strength we discovered was the amount of rubber bands we had used on the contraption to keep things tight, steady, and in place. The rubber bands help out a lot, especially when you re dealing with trying to stabilize popsicle stick platforms and securing the egg. if I had the chance to fix or add any supplies, or build anything on the contraption differently, I would definitely increase the amount of balloons to help with cushioning and slowing down the fall, and build a different kind of platform that would be more sturdy and easy to work ... The Usefulness of Sociological Theories in Explaining Crime and the Control of Crime This paper seeks to explore the usefulness of Sociological Theories in explaining crime and whether in doing so there arises implications for probation practice. I shall begin by providing a brief explanation for the historical development of criminological thinking, starting with Classicism and moving onto Positivism both which lay the foundations for the development of sociological theories in the 1960 s and 1970 s. Analysis of the literature has highlighted the vast array of theories to which my attention will be paid. However, due to the limitations of this piece of work and in order to provide an in depth account ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Classical thinking viewed individuals as free willed rational decision makers whose choice to commit crime was guided by hedonism, in terms of maximum pleasure for minimum pain. The focus of Classicism was on the crime and not the social or physical chrematistics of the offender. It was also based on what Beccaria termed a social contract , a contractual relationship between the individual and the state to which individuals within society were bound. He believed that a social contract drawn up by rational people would create the greatest happiness for the greatest number (Rosher 1989, p5) and would mean that, individuals would be willing to grant Governments the power to punish to the extent that was necessary to protect themselves from the crimes of others (Cavadino Dignan 2002, p46). The social contract required individuals to sacrifice a portion of their personal liberty in the interest of common good and the purpose of the law was to ensure that common interest were met. Beccaria proposed that perpetual servitude had a greater deterrent effect than capital punishment and would therefore deter individuals from committing crime. Criticisms of this school of thought spurred the emergence of Positivism. In contrast to Classicism, Positivism aims to search for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Big Five Personality Test Essay The Big 5 Personality Test The Big Five model of personality traits is a widely accepted and popular framework in personality psychometrics that is aimed at assessing personality according to traits. Traits refer to an individual s stable characteristics that predispose them to behave in particular ways across contexts (de Bruin Taylor, 2013). In other words, trait psychologists aim to assess the consistencies in an individual s behaviour in order to gain insight into the individual s general ways of interacting with people and the environment. Using factor analysis on multiple personality scales, psychologists have described and summarised personality traits in terms of five broad traits: Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our ways of interacting with others and the environment are affected by an innumerable amount of factors such as; our cultural context, the particular social situation we are placed in, our health and financial situation, relation with others, our early childhood experiences etc. Due to this, the one size fits all approach that many theoretical models of personality follow is problematic (Borghans, Duckworth, Heckman ter Weel, 2008). The approach stems from the increasing rate of globalisation: commercial companies are hiring many international employees, placing a high demand on psychologists to develop aptitude, intelligence as well as personality tests (Moyle, 2015). However, personality assessments and applications have strong use within Western countries, this means that the norms of what normal (and thereby non pathological) personality have been developed according to Western culture. Simply translating the personality test into another language and distributing it to another culture, as has been done in the past, is inappropriate and problematic. For example, personality research has demonstrated that participants with a Chinese cultural history score lower on extraversion than their Western counterparts (Cheung Cheung, 2003). Therefore we can see that the major challenge facing psychometrists in this field involves the complex issues of adapting personality tests appropriately across ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Summary Of Parmenide In just 20 lines in section 11.8 of his poem, Parmenides gives at least three arguments for why what is is ungenerated. I will present and explain each argument, the first two briefly and the last at more length because I consider his third argument to be his most comprehensive. Last, I will address his explanation of why what is is imperishable. Argument 1. Any given thing requires a reason to be generated, including what is (supplied) It makes no sense to say that a reason suddenly existed for what is to be generated (11.8, 9 10) Therefore what is was not generated (11.8, 11) This argument takes place in the space of just a few lines, in which Parmenides poses a question what need would have roused it, later or earlier, to grow, having begun from nothing? (11.8, 9 10). It here refers to what is. He assumes that everything has a reason to be generated some specific need but he cannot see why this reason would suddenly appear. The phrase later or earlier might point to how difficult it is to believe that at an arbitrary moment in time what is suddenly had a reason to spring into existence. If no such need could have appeared, then what is could not have been generated. Parmenides applies this argument specifically to what is being generated from what is not, or having begun from nothing (11.8, 10). And the argument certainly does seem to challenge the idea of generation from nothing, but I have left it neutral as regards the source of what is in my reconstruction here. I did this because I believe he can also apply Argument 1 to challenge the idea of generation from what is, not only from what is not. It should apply to both because the only way to say that what is is not generated is to show that it is generated from neither what is not, nor what is. More on this in Argument 3. Argument 2. Someone or something must bring any given thing, including what is, into existence (supplied) No one can make anything come into existence (11.8, 12) Therefore what is cannot be generated (11.8, 13 14) This is a difficult argument to suss out, especially since once again it takes place in only three lines. But he says that the force of conviction cannot make anything come to be out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You can spot them almost anywhere because there is a great population of them. Many people that see one of these dumpster divers view them as disgusting or inappropriate to society. People are quick to judge others when they do not relate to how they live their life. ВЁOn Dumpster DivingВЁ by Lars Eighner is a short excerpt from his memoir Travels with Lizbeth , he begins to explain that dumpster diving is not a bad activity as most view it as. He talks from a dumpster diver s perspective, and tries to prove that dumpster diving is resourceful. Eighner applies the three rhetorical appeals to establish his argument that dumpster diving is an ВЁhonorable nicheВЁ, although he uses ethos the most to support his position. To begin with, ethos was a big appeal that Eighner used to convince his readers that dumpster diving is an honorable activity. He begins to explain his own experience in dumpster diving, and how it is something honorable to him. Ethos is described as having, ВЁ... personal warmth, consideration of others, a good mind and solid learningВЁ (Fahnestock, 1). So, when arguing ethos, the person has to be relying and with experience. Eighner does give many examples from his personal perspective as a dumpster diver, and makes him a reliable source. In the short excerpt, ВЁOn Dumpster DivingВЁ, Eighner explains, ВЁ...and because I visited the dumpster regularly I knew what was fresh and what was yesterday sВЁ (24). As a person with experience in dumpster diving, he explains that he can tell the difference between what has been recently thrown away and what has already been there for a while, and with that he knows what is good to use and what is not. This is a good factor of dumpster diving because he does not need to spend any money like others, he just relies on what others throw away. Also, Eighner explains, The student does not know that, and since it is Daddy s money, the students decide not to take a chance (26). The purpose of this home visit was to check how the infant was doing because he was in the NICU after birth to rule out sepsis and also to check how the mother was doing after the birth of her first child. She lives in her parent s house with her siblings and boyfriend, and total seven people live in that house. The new mother is currently is not working, but she is taking classes at the Bakersfield College. Her family is supportive, and the baby s father is involved in the care of the Infant. Approximately 1/3 of Native Americans live in poverty and experience the conditions related to poor living conditions such as tuberculosis, malnourishment, and higher maternal and infant death rates (Allender, Rector, Warner, 2014). Some of the common highest ranking health problems seen in Native American children are SIDS, congenital anomalies, obesity, type II diabetes, and morbidity and mortality related to injuries (Allender et al., 2014). Poor hygiene, packed housing conditions, and low immunization leads to the incidence of a variety of contagious diseases in Native Americans (Allender et al., 2014). Native Americans prefer customary healing and folk medicines compared to the Western medicine; they use plants and herbs to cure illnesses (Allender et al., 2014). They may be a haven for some who want to take a break from reality. When one reads, he or she plunges into a new space, or a new world, created by the author s imagination. At the same time, the reader is also seeing life and reality through the author s eyes. Literature reflects the human life and condition in a way that it enables readers to relate with the characters and their situations. It depicts how humans try to cling to life and search for its meaning and purpose. However, life is truly meaningless and humans just create the illusion of desire to justify their own existence. Man just makes up the desire, the Godot, the illusion that life has meaning that he gives himself to justify his own existence in this world. He continuously waits for Godot, even though he is not certain if he will ever come. While they wait, they get distractions in Pozzo and Lucky, which makes them believe that something is actually happening. Like in a man s life, he has distractions while waiting for his desire to arrive. And because he feels that something is happening, he is led to believe that life is not nothing after all and that he is heading somewhere because something is happening. Throughout the play, Estragon repeatedly tells Vladimir that they should leave and abandon the wait, but Vladimir would always remind him that they cannot go and that We re waiting for Godot. (Beckett 443) Vladimir and Estragon are actually man s two sides of thinking: Estragon is his nagging thought: what if life is truly meaningless? In Acts 7.25, he believes that the Hebrews would see him as their savior after he killed the abusive taskmaster, but that isn t the case. There is a huge change after 40 years of shepherding, when Moses is asked by God to return to Egypt in Exodus 3.11, he responds Who am I that should go to Pharaoh? showing that he has been humbled by his stay in a strange land. There are smiles and smiles; learn to tell the dark variety from the light. (Bradbury 135) Written in 1962, Ray Bradbury s Something Wicked This Way Comes is a fantasy fiction novel which depicts the mysterious experience two teenage boys encounter one October night in Green Town, Illinois. Within Something Wicked This Way Comes, Ray Bradbury utilizes symbolism of the carousel in order to reveal the primary theme:beware of even the most innocent things, for they can be so nefarious. To begin with, the author incorporates the carousel as a symbol of evil disguised as innocence. In reality, the carousel is a distortion which represents the fears and desires wicked people feed off of in order to acquire ultimate power. In the novel, the author often refers to the carousel since it is almost portrayed as a vault which is constantly revolving and depending on the innocent who succumb to the dark side when their greatest fears are put to the test. According to Bud Martin, we are drawn in and root for children because their security is being encroached upon, and it is their love and innocence that both can make them victims and save them, in the end. The carousel is by far the most powerful and important symbol within and throughout the novel because it is considered the powerhouse or main source of energy which thrives solely on the souls of the weak and naive who ... It is surprising to realize that our country once forced students to say a prayer everyday before they started school. For a while, there were no complaints about this. However, as our country started to progress, people began to see the problem with it. People who opposed prayerin public school believed it was unconstitutional. Their reasons are very strong, because they are backed up by amendments that our country was founded on. Even though some their points are strong, they do have some fallacies. Their reasons seem to be a slippery slope. A slippery slope is like sliding down a slope you cannot stop (Halpern, 2015). They are assuming that if the government allowed prayer in public schools, then the government would be supporting only that certain religion. They also seem to have circular reasoning. Their reason of The Establishment Clause and separation of church and state both end with the fact that the government cannot force prayer in school is restating the conclusion. The issue of prayer in public school seems to have been solved by the government taking away prayer. But, as we have seen, there are still problems with both sides of the argument. One side of the argument appeals to tradition and the other has circular reasoning. Religion is something that is very important to some people. (Steele, 1997) It is a general phenomenon standard predicament of life that springs from intersubjectivity. What I mean is, there is a deeper meaning that we have to understand. As I read the play multiple times, I finally understood the deeper meaning behind it. One example would be that as the couple was drifting apart, it shows a huge change on Lucy s side. When she stops eating meat, it shows that she wants to be a better version of herself because she can now live the better and healthier life of herself without having someone to stop her. That explains why she wanted to cut Vernon out of her life. But, he doesn t understand why Lucy was pushing him to the side. I think this is something that happens in relationships every day. A couple will break up and there is always that one person who doesn t understand why things happen the way they happen and will become offensive and abusive until things become the way they want. Another metaphor can be seen from the steak. In the play, Vernon is forcing Lucy to eat the steak as he literally shoves it in her mouth. That shows that in their relationship, he was controlling because as we can clearly see, he doesn t value anything she wants or decides on her own. Instead, he tries to find loopholes to put out what he wants. This also happens in abusive relationships because one person always makes the decision and if the other person doesn t listen, something bad usually happens, and sometimes makes it hard for them to be safe if they want to leave the ... While Erikson was influenced by Freud s ideas, his theory differed in a number of important ways and was ultimately created to be an improvement to Freud s personality development theory (Friedman Schustack, 2012). Like Freud s psychosexual theory, Erikson agreed that personality progresses in a sequence of predetermined phases. However, unlike Freud s theory of psychosexual stages, Erikson s theory describes the impact of social experience across the whole lifespan (Hoare, 2005). According to Freud s psychosexual theory, personality develops across 5 sexual stages while Erikson s develops among 8 social stages. Freud s theory has fewer stages due to his belief that the last stage of identity develops during adolescence, while Erikson s theory had more stages because he believed an individual s identity continually evolved over their entire lifetime (Hoare, 2005).
