The Rebirth Of Literature By Virginia Woolf
The Rebirth of Literature Beautiful, complex, incisive.... One of the most moving, revolutionary
artworks of the twentieth century (Michael Cunningham) Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf is not
only a book that entertains millions, like Stephanie Meyer s Twilight, J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and
the Philosopher s Stone, or E. L. James s Fifty Shades of Grey, but it is a work of literature that
revolutionized the art of writing, which continues to influence people s philosophies, beliefs, and
views on life even roughly after a century since its publication. In fact, music, fashion, food, films,
books, clothes, and paintings are a few aspects of art all impacted immensely by Mrs. Dalloway, a

In other words, the meadow denotes Septimus s joy prior to the war and the beautiful and honorable
decision he took to fight for his country, meanwhile the dull sky exemplifies his unstable and muddled
mind after enduring the traumatic events of combat. Not to mention, the large, red spot symbolizes the
blazing world he now views, and the long paint streaks represent the planes that Septimus observed
soar and fill the sky during the war. All in all, Champagne displays how a man who should feel
honored for being so brave for fighting for his country, can also be engulfed with sorrow at the same
time. Disturbia, a pop song sung by Rhianna, connects the theme of PTSD in the novel with
contemporary art and postmodern society. For example, the lyrics What s wrong with me? Why do I
feel like this? I m going crazy now... demonstrate the feeling and thoughts of confusion and stress a
person with PTSD undergoes, exactly like the symptoms Septimus is displaying daily: Suffering
forever...he moaned, putting from him with a wave of his hand that external suffering, that external
loneliness (25). Additionally, the lyrics, It s a thief in the night. To come and grab you. It can creep up
inside you. And consume you. A disease of the mind. It can control you. Watch out, you might just go
under. Your train of thought will be altered is emphasizing how PTSD, is taking away your ability to

OOHE Sedation and Drug Administration 90
Chemical sedation may be the only initial treatment option, until patient agitation is controlled (1 5,8).
When considering sedation for ExDS benzodiazepine are recommended as initial treatment, followed
by ketamine and antipsychotic administration (4,8,26). Midazolam and ketamine are the sedation
intervention in the OOHE with future practice possibly including droperidal administration (21,27 28).
Haloperidol is utilised as the antipsychotic in the OOHE (29). Any patient considered for sedation in
the OOHE must have a SAT score _ 2 and must be highly monitored for any changes post
administration (23,25). All sedation interventions have associated advantages and disadvantages.

LEGAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES PERTAINING TO THE CARE OF PATIENTS WITH ExDS 264
Physical restraint and sedation is often paramount to allow emergency personal to provide treatment
and intervention associated with positive patient outcomes (1,5,7 9 11). Often the severe measures
needed to restrain and control ExDS patients are perceived in a negative way in the public eye. The
management of ExDS patients in sedation causes controversy when observed by bystanders that do
not understand the importance of sedation. (1,7,9 11). A legal and ethical dilemma for emergency
personal can result.
A dilemma occurs when another perceived coarse of action is observed (39,40). In the case of ExDS,
emergency personal have determined that in order to apply appropriate treatment, the safest course of
action for ExDS patients is sedation

Criminal Justice Is A Complex System
Criminal justice is a complex system that requires a method to fully understand the many facets
involved. Herbert L. Packer, Stanford University of Law Professor, published two key documents, an
article Two Models of the Criminal Process and a book titled The Limits of Criminal Sanction which
presented two models of the criminal justice system; the crime control model and the due process
model. Packer s objective was to present two very diverse methods to understand and process the
workings of the criminal justice system. Even though Packer s models are polar opposites, they do
have some commonality in their adherences to the U. S. Constitution and its principles. However, their
adherence is accomplished in their own unique way (Marion Oliver, 2012). Subsequently, Malcom M.
Feeley, a professor of criminal justice and law, expanded on Packer s models which provided two
viewpoints, rational goal and functional systems models, for understanding the criminal justice
system, and provide insight on the most efficient way to organize the criminal justice system (Marion
et al., 2012). In examining Packer s models and Feeley s models, one can visualize how the crime
control, due process, rational goal, and functional systems models are related. Examining Packer s
crime control model, this model views crime as a breakdown of individual responsibilities and places
the highest importance on repressing criminal conduct, therefore protecting society. Individuals who

A Letter About Fice Essay
Walking into the office, Carrie noticed that everyone seemed tense. She walked to Melissa s desk, an
old friend and coworker, and stated, What s going on? Why does everyone look so agitated? she said
in a low voice. We re about to have a meeting again because of someone else s mistake, Melissa
replied, biting on her lip. What happened? . Well, Jerry wrote a letter venting about the Boss, and he
made a mistake and sent it to him. What! , Carrie stated. He didn t try to send it to him. His intent was
to send it to Maggie, but he sent it to the Boss instead. And it gets worst Maggie was also talking
about leaving the company as well in the letter. Carrie shook her head as they walked into the meeting.
As the conference started the Boss began to speak in a manner that no adult should talk to another. He
screamed and sculled at everyone when they had nothing to do with the incident. By the time the
meeting was over many were talking about leaving the company. Some stated that the way he
communicated with them was very unprofessional, and they felt disrespected. Others stated they were
going to file complaints. Personally, I don t think the Boss handled himself in a professional way. As a
leader you must know the role of communication and effective leadership otherwise, you will lose
your best workers.
Today there are so many methods of communicating with one. You have the ability to use the internet,

Major Differences In The Movie 300
THIS IS SPARTA a famous quote from the movie 300 (2006) about the ferocious battles of the Greco
Persian wars across the western Mediterranean. Persia was the dominant empire of this time because
of conquering and expanding borders. They had the largest army of the time with around 700,000
800,000 soldiers. Sparta on the other hand was a smaller still powerful city state with highly trained
Military personnel. I think there are many minor differences that alter and change the way you see the
battle. Some of those minor changes in the movie not in the real battle are the Persians used rhinos and
elephants to ride into battle, Xerxes does not go into battle as seen in the movie and the Spartans did
not fight with any armor unlike the real battle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the mighty Persian empire they never had any animals used for combat. During the hiding in
the shade scene, it showed the Persian archers shooting of what looks to be one million plus arrows
which is a huge overstatement because for one there was never that many arrows to block out the sun,
and second the wooden arrows would not stick in the metal shields the Spartans held. Another minor
difference within the battle was in the movie it showed Xerxes in the front lines of the battle. In the
movie Xerxes Talked to Leonidas and even reasoned for him to be warlord of Sparta and obviously
Leonidas refused. In reality Xerxes was far behind enemy lines where he couldn t get a spear in the
cheek. Xerxes was also never that tall or never wore those clothes he was much shorter, fatter and
wore fine silk clothes. Last minor difference was in the movie the Spartan soldiers were almost naked
when going into battle. Actual spartan soldiers were covered head to toe in metal armor and never
took their helmets off during combat. Also the Immortals looked like scream with a chrome face the
real ones looked like normal soldiers just with heavier

African American Stereotypes in the Media

African American Stereotypes in the Media
When I first heard someone say, All African American people are Ghetto, I was very offended that
someone would make this type of assumption about my culture, and I thought how ignorant this
person must be; but then I stopped and wondered why other people would think this about us. I asked
her why she would say something like this, and she instantly listed shows like Tosh.O and Chelsea
Lately, which highlight my culture in a negative view. It was clear to me that she had made up her
mind about black people through watching the media and seeing African Americans fulfill that
stereotype in person. This led me to question: Where exactly do these stereotypes come from? ... Show

The way entertainment in the media portrays us has greatly affected how others identify us. Movies
and shows like; Madea s family Reunion, Bringing down the House, Love and Hip Hop, and
Basketball Wives all portray us in a degrading way. People sometimes find it comical of course, but
the fact that it is comical does not justify it being debasing. This image of us has evolved from things
in the media, and its power to shape people s idea of us. We as a race must stop living up to our
stereotypes. As soon as we take action in not succumbing to our own stereotype, people will not think
we are Ghetto or any other undignified term they think of us; therefore in the media we won t be
perceived in that way. As Colin Powell once said, Fit no stereotypes. Don t chase the latest
management fads. The situation dictates which approach best accomplishes the team s mission.
Although African American stereotyping is prevalent in the media now because of its entertaining
quality; it perpetuates a cycle of harmful stereotypes. As long as this cycle continues, our culture will
always be illustrated negatively.

Effects of Technology Essay
The Effects of Technology There is no escape from technology. In most cases this is not a problem
though. Many people respect and admire technology because it is there to benefit them. Without the
technological advances we have had over the years, the world would not be what it is today. What
people don #8217;t understand is that technology can actually be a bad thing. In society today, people
are looking for more and more ways to be entertained, and all it is doing is causing problems. People
are doing less and less thinking and more and more watching, listening, and playing, all because of
technology. Forms of entertainment like the Internet, television and even video games seem harmless
to people, but they are really not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People of all ages are addicted to television. On average, people watch about thirty hours of television
a week. But the people who go beyond this mark are known to society as #8220;couch potatoes
#8221;. The #8220;couch potatoes #8221; are the people who sit in front of the television for hours on
end, and will only get out of their seat to get something to drink or to go to the bathroom. Social
gatherings and even family communication is being affected by the amount of television people are
watching. At the beginning, people didn #8217;t know what they were going to do with a television,
but now the question is how could people survive without a television. The Internet and Television are
probably the two biggest technologies that are affecting people today. Video games though are another
technology that is affecting the individual, mainly teenagers and kids. Much like television, video
game problems come with the content of the game. Many of the video games on the market today are
structured toward violence. The objective of these games is to either beat your opponent up or kill
your opponent. Kids play these games, and much like television, see what the game is portraying and
feel it is all right to do the same things. Whether it is the Internet, television, or even video games,
technological advancements have their advantages and disadvantages. People never

Green Lettuce Experiment
Question
Do green or reddish purple lettuce leaves photosynthesize at a higher rate under red light?
Hypothesis
Green lettuce leaves will photosynthesize at a faster rate than reddish purple lettuce leaves when
exposed to red light because reddish purple lettuce leaves reflect red light and will thus have fewer
photons to excite light receptors and begin photosynthesis.
Materials:
Baking soda
Diluted soap solution
Plastic syringes without needle
Green lettuce leaves
Reddish purple leaves
Hole punch
4 small beakers
Lamp as a light source
4 Petri dishes
Red food coloring
Methods :
Prepare 600 ml of 0.2% bicarbonate solution.
Pour equal amounts of the bicarbonate solution into the four beakers. Two beakers will contain chads

There should only be chads made from spinach leaves to allow for consistency in light receptor
molecules. We could then use different food coloring in the petri dishes above the chads, with two
beakers per color/ wavelength of light. If the beakers are filled with 20 chads each, this would allow a
more exact representation of the rate of photosynthesis, based off of light absorption of the light
receptors. Then, make measurements every minute for as long as it takes for all of the chads to float.
As a result, I would predict that a graph of average chads floating/minute would look similar to the
light absorption spectrum graph for chlorophyll A, with purple wavelengths of light having the highest
rate of floating chads (and photosynthesis), and green wavelengths of light having the

Compare And Contrast Japan And Europe
Because Japan and France both existed within the genre of feudal society, they shared many economic
similarities. Both feudal systems had common qualities of fief organization, similar inheritance
customs, taxing systems and issues with debt, and the lack of social mobility characteristic of
feudalism. In feudal societies, fiefs are awarded to officials in lieu of salaries. A fief typically was a
plot of land, including household servants, agricultural laborers, and anyone else who lived on the
land; however, it was above all a diffuse bundle of loose claims on rights with which one obtained the
right to participate in the game of power present in feudal societies. A fief did not necessarily have to
be land, but it was overwhelmingly so in both France and Japan because of the natural economy, led
by agricultural pursuits; the more important part of a feudal agreement was not the land, per se, but
rather the ties between lord and recipient. Moreover, in punishment for breach of feudal contract,
forfeiture of the land was possible; the lords in France had the right to reclaim their gifted fief if they
felt they were not well served. There was also the option of escheat, which allowed the lord to take
back their fief in default of a rightful heir. Fiefdom was common to both France and Japan. Shiki
rights in Japan were defined as a right to profit from the land ; they acted as a sort of deed or title,
which could be bought, sold, inherited, and divided as the recipient of

Spain And Spanish Culture
When examining any culture, pieces of other ideologies and cultural normalities different than the
foremost culture prevail, intertwining different cultures together. Spain, historically, has been known
to be a passing point for a wide variety of religious groups. During the ancient world, Christian,
Muslim, and Jewish peoples coexisted, each ultimately contributing to Spanish culture. Starting
around 701 C.E., Muslim forces began to expand into areas around the Middle East, gradually
broadening this land mass to reach Spain. Initially, Arab invaders were met with vigorous resistance;
however, as time went on, invaders experienced little opposition, allowing them to reap city after city.
Within the newly Arab conquered cities, other religious groups faced little discrimination.
Additionally, this conquest established the ever present influence of Islam on Spanish culture. In this
case, Spain adopted Islamic cultural innovations such as: forms of writing, religious aspects,
architectural styles, and materials supplied for said architectural innovations. Trailing into the modern
world, traces of Islamic culture are evidently intertwined into Spanish culture. Due to Spain s rich
history in interweaving cultures, it can be said that Spanish culture is intensely influenced by Islamic
culture through the invasion of Arab military in medieval time, visually retaining influence through
culture, religion, and architecture.
At the beginning of the early 700s, Muslims from the Arabian Peninsula began their conquest by
convincing nearby Germanic tribes to surrender; though it was not until they travelled across the
Straits of Gibraltar and attacked around 711 that their expansion truly began. As stated earlier, other
religious groups within Muslim Spain faced little discrimination. This impartial society could be
explained by the Treaty of Tudmir. This treaty promised that [Christians] will not be coerced in
matters of religion, their churches will not be burned, nor will sacred objects be taken from the realm
(Treaty of Tudmir). Islamic forces continued their invasion and took control of Zaragoza, Spain by
714 C.E. In an opportunity to encourage his men, Tarik, a leader in the conquest of Spain wrote: attack

The Two Methods Of Surface Mining And Underground Mining
Introduction
Mining is what people use to extract minerals and ores, there are two methods that you can use that is
surface mining and underground mining.
What is underground mining/surface mining?
Underground mining is what people use to extract hard minerals from underground some of those are
Gold, Copper, Iron, Metal and Zinc, and many more minerals found underground. The two methods
used for underground mining is cut and fill and room and pillar. Cut and fill is when the material
extracted from underground is then used to fill another space. Room and pillar is when the ore is
extracted in a horizontal line. There are two phases to extracting a mineral using the room and pillar
method. Surface mining is when you find minerals either above the surface or on the surface in soil
etc. The two most popular ways to do surface mining is open pit mining and strip mining. Open pit
mining is when you extract rocks from the earth s surface in open pits, the minerals found using open
pit mining are Ores, copper and aluminium. Strip mining is when you get rid of soil and rocks above a
layer of coal normally and you then extract the mineral, coal is the only mineral normally extracted
using the strip mining method. Mining can be very dangerous and have been many accidents in the
past, if you are mining you are told to wear a helmet, gloves, protective shoes, padding and eye
protection.

Overture Beethoven
This overture is perhaps of the most hard work written by Beethoven. It s hard not just to listen, but
also to play. The first time you listen Fidelio might be a little bit confused and bored; however, after
two or three times, you start to understand how complex and delicate this overture is. Every time I
listen to Fidelio I notice something new, and how can I not listen to something new in a story of
personal sacrifice, heroism and triumph?! Perhaps Beethoven wrote it in a way to make the listener
image different stories told by different people every time they listen. Sir Colin Davis did an excellent
job ahead of his orchestra. They were able to reflect on their instruments every emotion hidden

Volunteering Rough Draft
Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons
working together (Ryan). These words said by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, reflects the words my
parents would always say to me when I was little. I would donate old clothes that did not fit, or toys I
did not play with anymore. Every summer I would volunteer at my town s public library, as well as at
my church. However, as I got older, doing the simple tasks at the library felt tedious and uninteresting
so I stopped volunteering for a while. There were times when I had spare time that could have and
should have been put to use volunteering, but I did not have the motivation. However, after being
inducted into my High School s National Honors Society, I needed volunteer hours in order to remain
in it. This was the motivation I needed to begin volunteering again.
I decided to give back to one of my passions, hockey. The hockey community has always had

How Did Chinese Technology Change Over Europe
China enjoyed a number of technological advances over Europe in the period running up to the 15th
century, most significantly the development of gunpowder, compasses and printing. These inventions
revolutionised European technology facilitating exploration, conquest and literature. Unlike in Europe,
these inventions were not put to such use by the Chinese who held a fairly isolationist view. Meaning
that they did not involve themselves in trade to nearly the same degree as many Europeans. In this
essay I will be assessing China s technological lead over Europe before the 16th century and
commenting on the extent to which they held this lead. I will then go on to consider the main events,
which took place in China, and particularly in Europe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be contributed to the fact that China did not utilize their inventions to nearly the same extent
as Europe. Lynda Shaffer is to a broad extent in agreement with this as she argues that Needham s
question can thus be understood to mean, Why didn t China use gunpowder to destroy feudal walls?
Why didn t China use the compass to cross the Pacific and discover America, or to find an all sea
route to Western Europe? (Lynda Shaffer, World History Bulletin, Fall/Winter 1986/87). This can
broadly be explained by the fact that long historical unity of China, covering a large land mass, meant
that it was mostly self sufficient. China did not need the outside world, which was inferior anyway .
(Roy Bailey, EC120, week 3). Moreover, China was never exposed to the fiercely competitive states
system of Europe (Roy Bailey, EC120, week 3), which would have demanded China to remove itself
from an isolationist position in order for the country to survive. In contrast to this, European countries
took advantage of the newly discovered technologies. The use of gunpowder in Europe made castles
and other such structures associated with the medieval period obsolete, as castles were no matches for
something, which could destroy their walls. This helped to free Europe from its feudal

Public and Private Sector
Private and public sector management differ only in context, but this difference is significant.
George Boyne in his article Human resource management in the Public and private sectors: An
empirical comparison explains with empirical evidence how even though private and public sector
management differs in service ethos but this difference is significant which impacts the tradition,
culture and practises of both the sectors. Over the past two decades many different interpretations and
perceptions have come into play on the similarities and differences between private and public sector
management.

Baldwin 1991).
The major differences between a private and public management is ownership, funding, public interest
and mode of governance where public organisations are controlled collectively by the members of
political community and depends on the political authority for its activities. This results in the political
forces having a greater impact on the direct power of the public sector organisations. On the other
hand, private organisations are owned by shareholders and entrepreneurs and the controlled or guided
by the current global market forces. Public organizations are funded by taxes paid by citizens whereas
the private companies are funded by customer fees and spending. However, Bozeman (1987) claims
that, all organizations are public because they are all affected by political authority whether they are
public or private. It is the political system that imposes more constraints rather than the economic
system.
Goal is another factor which underlines the distinction between a public and private management. The
understanding of profitability goes a long way with the private companies having the main goal to sell
their products in the market as oppose to public management. As a result, there has been considerable
criticism on the various government agencies for their attempt to bring public management into line
with private management. For example, Stewart and Walsh (1992, p.

Football Concussion Essay
Throughout time, football has been known for its insane amount of damage it causes to its players. It
has ranged from a little scrape on your arm to almost lying on your deathbed after having a concussion
that you thought was just a headache. Although football is seen as a great sport to watch, no one
actually knows the truth behind the actual game. Many have tried to make the sport involve more safe
strategies, but it is just one of those sports that has gained their reputation from being involved with
pushing, hurting, and sometimes even fighting . I would not allow my son to play football, because it
has ways of leaving multiple health issues throughout your lifetime. It may also be one of the roads to
cause traumatic injuries and it gives a more likely chance of death. In this sport, there are multiple
data tables that include the amount of concussions that have happened throughout the years of the
game. One reason why I would not allow my son to play football is because it leaves the chance of

Modern Day Slavery And Today s Society Essay
Many times it is said that history repeats itself, but should it in cases such as slavery. Slavery has been
known as a cruel war again human nature itself, violating many basic and cherished human rights of
life and liberty, (Leary, 2015). This research paper will examine modern day slavery and the many
different aspects that play a role in carrying it out in today s society. As modern day slavery is defined,
reasons for the cause will be noted, along with the affects, abuse of power and rights, and possible
solutions.
With many definitions of slavery out there, predominantly it can be referred to as a practice with
different elements such as: ownership of a person as chattel, loss of free will and control over many
aspects of self but especially their labor power, and control being asserted through violence,
degradation, or threat. With slavery defined, the correlation between slavery and human trafficking of
forced labor can easily be linked and observed. There is a connection of ownership of a person as
chattel where the victim loses their rule of specifically their labor power through violence,
degradation, and threats such as deportation, (Leary, 2015). Looking at modern slavery through this
perspective, there is recognition that societies, economics, and social structures do alter over time.
Slavery may remind many of some of the most sorrowful and agonizing times in the nation s history.
However, there is no denying it no matter how much some try. The term slavery

The Effects Of Hearing Impairment On Children
When I first walked into my friend Betsy s parent s retirement home center on December 8th at 10am,
I saw some elderly people sitting on sofas, another using a walker to get to the kitchen, and some
others sitting on their wheelchair watching the television. The living room smelled like a hospital that
consists of different medications in the air, but the scent feels fresh from the open window next to
them at the same time. Betsy introduced me to an old man named Alfred, who was the first person I
interviewed. What I noticed immediately was that he was wearing hearing aids since Betsy had to
speak loudly to him to let him know that I was planning to ask him a few questions for my
assignment. This recalled my memory of Week 5 lecture 2 s topic on Changes in Vision and Hearing,
(2014) on what Professor Wong was talking about on the signs of hearing impairment. As soon as I sat
down to introduce myself to him and talk about what I was interviewing him for, I had to raise my
voice louder than usual and repeat myself several times. Alfred is 91 years old, but he feels like he is
still somewhere between 60 65 years of age. I was really worried that some of the questions I asked
him was too strenuous for him to think about and I was paranoid that I might accidentally kill him
since he paused a lot, laid on the sofa breathing hard and he also kept looking up, like he was about to
have a stroke. It was frightening. The thought that had occurred to me as I was interviewing Alfred

The Song Analysis Of The Song Hotel California
The song hotel California The song hotel California was released by an artist known as Eagles in
1976. The genre of the song is classic rock. It was written by Glenn Frey and Don Felder with help of
Don Henley. California is the setting of this song, even though it used to relate the entire America.
This song is all about the exaggeration of the American culture and some specific girls in America. In
addition, it touches the uneasy balance between commerce and art in America. Hotel California is a
metaphor for the LA high life and the cons and pros of living in the music industry. Hotel California
tells the story of a man driving along a super highway. On his way, the man gets tired and decides to
stop at a hotel which ends up being a pleasure palace with a sinister. While listening, a casual listener
would tend to think how lovely place California might be. The listener might wish to crash California
probably for a weekend, or order for a room service just to enjoy the lovely place, Hoskyns, B. (2006).
. But when someone listens this song keenly, he or she might start wondering if the hotel is as good as
Guantanamo or Palm Springs simply because it says, you can check any time you like but you can
never leave! As a matter of fact this song has its dark side. The song Hotel California has got various
lyrics. For instance, warm smell of colitis which is direct reference to a plant known as colitis. Colitis

Persuasive Essay On Forgiveness
In a biblical manner, forgiveness roughly translates to letting go . Instead of holding a grudge to the
offender, we should give them pardon. In Luke 11:4, we are given the passage of: And forgive us our
sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver
us from evil. Jesus used an example of this when comparing a person seeking repayment from a debt
found in Matthew 18:23 35. Likewise, the act of forgiving does not come easy. In order to begin the
journey of forgiveness, one should first let go of any resentment towards the particular person or
situation that is causing destress. Once the resentment is gone, one can attempt to abandon the notion
of being rewarded for their loss whether financial, personal, or something else. Forgiveness also
entails benefits that can improve health and increase our progress towards living a wholesome
Christian life. Proverbs 14:30 tells us that a heart with a peace and calmness in it gives life to the body
but one with jealousy and bitterness leads to wrong desires similar to rotting bones. However, the
greatest part to forgiving others is to exemplify how God forgave us for our own sins. In order to be
forgiven by God, we must forgive people for their sins. If we fail to do this though, God will not
forgive us for our sins (Matthew 6:14 15). 2 Peter 1:10 dictates that Christians should be more eager in
making their calling and election since doing these makes sure that we will never fail. Our calling is
God s salvation for us while our election is God picking us to be saved. Since God called and elected
on us from his own glory and goodness, we must serve as examples to others by pursuing Godly
virtues while actively living in a Christian lifestyle. Numerous people struggle in letting go of their
respective past and carry on their baggage into their future. Not only does this prevent them from
growing, it prevents them from achieving a happy life. As we interact with people similar to this, we
can show them that they too can be resolved from their past issues.
Personally, I forgive pretty easily as I think holding grudges is a waste of time and does not
accomplish anything positive. However, I did have a hard time

In Daniel Gilbert s Reporting Live from Tomorrow , Gilbert makes use of statistics, studies, and
experiments to convey a multitude of ideas, primarily the concept that while many people are opposed
to, or are in disbelief of it, turning to surrogates as means of predicting our own future is quite
effective. Gilbert s concepts and theories are quite important to take into consideration not only as a
general message of how human beings tend to let factors such as their imagination or their own self

surrogates, we are able to make more accurate predictions on our own future, such as what will be

when it comes to predicting our own future, especially in the case of those around us that may be
pursuing similar goals, majors, or careers. In the case of predicting my own future in particular, I d
have to rely mainly of the adults around me in my life, as well as various older acquaintances that

specifically in topics or areas that are more reflective of my later interests. What s important to note
here is that while numerous adults and figures in my life do enjoy and share these hobbies and find
much of their happiness in them, it s also worth acknowledging that many of their interests, jobs, and
ultimately people who they surround themselves with is consistent, in my case that s still very much
subject to change. This is a very noteworthy point to raise, being that while there are some aspects that

Assess the impact of interference by foreign powers on China s development in the 20th century
During the 20th century China underwent a massive transformation. In the early 1900s China was a
mass of land lacking any real political cohesion and so was plagued by disputes between the many
ruling warlords. However, by the year 2000 China was considered a major contender on the world
stage and still is today; it almost seems certain that China will become the most powerful nation on

Despite the burgeoning hope of a strong independent China, free of the exploitation of foreign powers,
Sun Yat Sen s aims were not achieved. However, this laid the basis for China s ideal of developing
their own independence.
A politician of great significance was Mao Zedong, the first Chairman of the People s Republic of
China. He had possibly the largest impact on the development of China, particularly with policies such
as his agricultural reform. Foreign interference, by way of Japan s invasion (1937 49), had had a great
negative effect on economic development. Their original intent to exploit China s resources was
manifested in mass murder across the country (the rape of Nanking being a focussed example of this)
and such destruction of infrastructure and mass looting that instances of cannibalism became quite
widespread. Hence, it was to Mao that much of the task of reforming and rebuilding fell. Mao s
greatest achievement, and the core of any development free of foreign interference, was his success in
harnessing the unquenchable spirit of the Chinese people. Their unrelenting efforts went some way to

Research has shown that teamwork increases efficiency (Thylefors et al, 2005 in Newson, 2006). A
team can pool knowledge and skills and, if well motivated, create energy increasing a team s
efficiency beyond that of the individuals.
Modern views on teamwork also consider the satisfaction of the workforce by becoming more
autonomous and reducing hierarchical structures (Ovretveit et al, 1997).
5 Team Development
The most commonly used model to discuss team development is Tuckman s (1965) (in Huczynski
Buchanan, 2001) forming, storming, norming and performing model. However, the team concerned
more closely followed the Cog s ladder model (see appendix 1. for full description) (Walton, 1984).

The initial introductions of the team members took place during a coffee break, however, the task was
not clearly discussed at this stage and so roles were not yet defined. The members worked at a

The goals were established and two subgroups (student nurses, A and B and student radiographers, C,
D, E and F) emerged.
3. Bid for power (day 2/3)
Conflict and rivalry within the group prevailed. At this stage two members of the group, A and C,

The team did eventually reach this stage with activities being divided amongst members and all
members participating.

This means that cable companies would be required to allow Internet service providers free access to
cable lines, like the model used for dial up Internet. They also intend to make sure that the cable
companies cannot screen, disrupt or filter Internet content without a court order. This in turn would
allow FCC (Federal Communications Commission) to enforce rules of net neutrality effectively.
Furthermore, Net neutrality advocates argue that allowing cable and telecommunication to act as
gatekeepers i.e. being able to control speed of loading of websites, as well as letting them to demand a
toll on quality of service would create an exploitative business model and would also slow down
innovation in online services. Further, they also argue that by charging certain sites, ISP s may be able
to block those who are unable to pay. Also, the advocates assert that every content on the Internet must
be treated same and must move at the same speeds. Presently, the order is meant to set a precedent that
all ISP s as well as communication companies cannot impede customers from using their networks the

The Big Bang Theory Ideologies Essay
There are many common ideologies found in today s culture and they are often supported in television
shows, television ads, and other sources of media. The Big Bang Theory is just one of many shows
that embraces ideologies and stereotypes that are found in culture today, such as cultural myths about
geeks, culture, and women.
The Big Bang Theory characterizes intellectuals, particularly men as unsexy, unpopular, bad athletes,
unstylish, and social inept children looking for a mother figure. These ideologies are wrong but it
continues to predominate in the mass media, which wants us to believe that those who are very smart
or academic are not attractive to the opposite sex. One character on The Big Bang Theory is Rajesh

Wolowitz still lives at home with his extremely loud, overly informative, obnoxious mother. He is also
explicitly portrayed as the creepiest and least likable character on the show. Wolowitz is completely
out of touch with women and usually just ends up offending them when he attempts to interact with
them. Here viewers are presented with several traits all popularly associated with young Jewish men.
Another example is Amy Farrah Fowler who is a neuroscientist that is conventionally unattractive, has
difficulty with communication and building relationships, and has the same sexual and relational
desires that everyone else does (Zuska, 2010).
The remaining female characters that appear in the series are generally there to be gratuitously
objectified and competed for by the male cast. The character Penney fits into the typical girl next door
character type in several ways. Firstly, she s blonde and very attractive. She also hails from the
Nebraska and works as a waitress as she tries to become a professional actress. Penny is initially
portrayed as a sweet, unintelligent individual who gets by on her good looks and charm rather than
possessing a strong intellect or talents. Finally, Penny fits the stereotype of a beautiful young neighbor
by being presented as rather sexually promiscuous. Men are often seen leaving her apartment the
morning after she s been on a date, and in episode 401, The Robotic Manipulation, Sheldon seems to

O Pioneer Hardships
Hardships in O Pioneer During the middle to late 1800 s, thousands upon thousands of Americans, as
well as foreigners, flocked to the mid western part of the United States. They flocked to this area
hoping to gain free or cheap land promised to them by the United States Government. Most of the
pioneers left cities and factory jobs to venture out into the American prairies and become farmers.
They left their homes, not only because the land was either free or cheap, but also because they
wanted to leave the hardships of city life. However, as most would find out, prairie life had its share of
hardships, that far out reached the hardships of city life. Among these hardships were the death of
siblings and friends due to starvation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After John died, the family divided the land into three parts. These three parts went to Alexandra, Lou,
and Oscar. All three had difficulties within the first couple of years. It even got to the point to where
they were discussing the idea of leaving and going back home. They discussed this idea because the
land they were living on was not producing much for them and money was very hard to earn. Cather
stated in Chapter two that John Bergson spent his first five years on the Divide getting into debt, and
the last six getting out. After John died, the rest of the family took on the responsibility of repaying
this debt. However, by the end of the novel, the land had become very fertile and hearty and they were
able to make a living off of it. But most pioneers during this time were not so lucky. Some died of
starvation. Some returned to the cities in which they came from. Carl Linstrums family, in this story,
had such bad luck with the land; they were forced to return to the city. Violence and crime was also a
problem for prairie dwellers. Most people in this area lived in seclusion, miles from the nearest town.
Therefore there was no jurisdiction in these outer one or two home communities. Because there was
no jurisdiction, it was increasingly easier for people to commit crimes and get away with it. And most
times this

Societal Value In Beowulf Essay
In Beowulf, attention is given to descriptive visuals presented as a means to demonstrate the scale of
epic narrative the poem operates on. The visualization in the poem, however serves as dual purpose of
illustrating not only the landscape and characters for its audiences but also their personal image to
society. Gold, while first mentioned in the opening lines as a supplementary visual for the ensign of a
heroes shroud, progresses quickly to become an embedded value in the world of Beowulf (Line 45,
page 50). While most people would consider the application of gold in the text, as a simple model of
economic value for the Geats and Danes, is in truth a symbolic use of societal value. Societal value, in
Beowulf is seen through the use of imposing cultural normality s and customs, in which the characters
find themselves obeying and also embracing at every turn. For characters such as King Hrothgar, he
uses gold as a means to demonstrate wealth and power by offering Beowulf physical gold as a sign of
his societal accomplishment. As the text progresses, gold is symbolically applied as apart of the
characters traits and power, with the title character of Beowulf proactively attempting retrieve gold
from a dragon as means to maintain his societal duties as a lord to his people. When understanding the
further development of societal standards, Gold can also present a symbolic value of peace in society
as King Hrothgar attempts to plead for peace from Grendel by offering it

One of the most moving, revolutionary artworks of the twentieth century (Michael Cunningham) Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf is not only a book that entertains millions, like Stephanie Meyer s Twilight, J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, or E. L. • 6. Criminal Justice Is A Complex System Criminal justice is a complex system that requires a method to fully understand the many facets involved. Herbert L. Packer, Stanford University of Law Professor, published two key documents, an article Two Models of the Criminal Process and a book titled The Limits of Criminal Sanction which presented two models of the criminal justice system; the crime control model and the due process model. Packer s objective was to present two very diverse methods to understand and process the workings of the criminal justice system. Even though Packer s models are polar opposites, they do have some commonality in their adherences to the U. S. Constitution and its principles. However, their adherence is accomplished in their own unique way (Marion Oliver, 2012). Subsequently, Malcom M. Feeley, a professor of criminal justice and law, expanded on Packer s models which provided two viewpoints, rational goal and functional systems models, for understanding the criminal justice system, and provide insight on the most efficient way to organize the criminal justice system (Marion et al., 2012). In examining Packer s models and Feeley s models, one can visualize how the crime control, due process, rational goal, and functional systems models are related. Examining Packer s crime control model, this model views crime as a breakdown of individual responsibilities and places the highest importance on repressing criminal conduct, therefore protecting society. Why does everyone look so agitated? she said in a low voice. We re about to have a meeting again because of someone else s mistake, Melissa replied, biting on her lip. What happened? . Well, Jerry wrote a letter venting about the Boss, and he made a mistake and sent it to him. What! , Carrie stated. He didn t try to send it to him. His intent was to send it to Maggie, but he sent it to the Boss instead. And it gets worst Maggie was also talking about leaving the company as well in the letter. Carrie shook her head as they walked into the meeting. As the conference started the Boss began to speak in a manner that no adult should talk to another. He screamed and sculled at everyone when they had nothing to do with the incident. By the time the meeting was over many were talking about leaving the company. Some stated that the way he communicated with them was very unprofessional, and they felt disrespected. Others stated they were going to file complaints. • 8. Major Differences In The Movie 300 THIS IS SPARTA a famous quote from the movie 300 (2006) about the ferocious battles of the Greco Persian wars across the western Mediterranean. Persia was the dominant empire of this time because of conquering and expanding borders. They had the largest army of the time with around 700,000 800,000 soldiers. Sparta on the other hand was a smaller still powerful city state with highly trained Military personnel. I think there are many minor differences that alter and change the way you see the battle. Some of those minor changes in the movie not in the real battle are the Persians used rhinos and elephants to ride into battle, Xerxes does not go into battle as seen in the movie and the Spartans did not fight with any armor unlike the real battle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within the mighty Persian empire they never had any animals used for combat. During the hiding in the shade scene, it showed the Persian archers shooting of what looks to be one million plus arrows which is a huge overstatement because for one there was never that many arrows to block out the sun, and second the wooden arrows would not stick in the metal shields the Spartans held. Another minor difference within the battle was in the movie it showed Xerxes in the front lines of the battle. In the movie Xerxes Talked to Leonidas and even reasoned for him to be warlord of Sparta and obviously Leonidas refused. In reality Xerxes was far behind enemy lines where he couldn t get a spear in the cheek. Xerxes was also never that tall or never wore those clothes he was much shorter, fatter and wore fine silk clothes. African American Stereotypes in the Media Jakaya McCambry 10/02/12 African American Stereotypes in the Media When I first heard someone say, All African American people are Ghetto, I was very offended that someone would make this type of assumption about my culture, and I thought how ignorant this person must be; but then I stopped and wondered why other people would think this about us. I asked her why she would say something like this, and she instantly listed shows like Tosh.O and Chelsea Lately, which highlight my culture in a negative view. It was clear to me that she had made up her mind about black people through watching the media and seeing African Americans fulfill that stereotype in person. This led me to question: Where exactly do these stereotypes come from? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way entertainment in the media portrays us has greatly affected how others identify us. Movies and shows like; Madea s family Reunion, Bringing down the House, Love and Hip Hop, and Basketball Wives all portray us in a degrading way. People sometimes find it comical of course, but the fact that it is comical does not justify it being debasing. This image of us has evolved from things in the media, and its power to shape people s idea of us. We as a race must stop living up to our stereotypes. As soon as we take action in not succumbing to our own stereotype, people will not think we are Ghetto or any other undignified term they think of us; therefore in the media we won t be perceived in that way. As Colin Powell once said, Fit no stereotypes. Don t chase the latest management fads. The situation dictates which approach best accomplishes the team s mission. Although African American stereotyping is prevalent in the media now because of its entertaining quality; it perpetuates a cycle of harmful stereotypes. As long as this cycle continues, our culture will always be illustrated negatively. Works Cited Dixon, Travis L. Many people respect and admire technology because it is there to benefit them. Without the technological advances we have had over the years, the world would not be what it is today. What people don #8217;t understand is that technology can actually be a bad thing. In society today, people are looking for more and more ways to be entertained, and all it is doing is causing problems. Then, make measurements every minute for as long as it takes for all of the chads to float. • 12. Compare And Contrast Japan And Europe Because Japan and France both existed within the genre of feudal society, they shared many economic similarities. Both feudal systems had common qualities of fief organization, similar inheritance customs, taxing systems and issues with debt, and the lack of social mobility characteristic of feudalism. In feudal societies, fiefs are awarded to officials in lieu of salaries. A fief typically was a plot of land, including household servants, agricultural laborers, and anyone else who lived on the land; however, it was above all a diffuse bundle of loose claims on rights with which one obtained the right to participate in the game of power present in feudal societies. A fief did not necessarily have to be land, but it was overwhelmingly so in both France and Japan because of the natural economy, led by agricultural pursuits; the more important part of a feudal agreement was not the land, per se, but rather the ties between lord and recipient. Moreover, in punishment for breach of feudal contract, forfeiture of the land was possible; the lords in France had the right to reclaim their gifted fief if they felt they were not well served. There was also the option of escheat, which allowed the lord to take back their fief in default of a rightful heir. Fiefdom was common to both France and Japan. Shiki rights in Japan were defined as a right to profit from the land ; they acted as a sort of deed or title, which could be bought, sold, inherited, and divided as the recipient of ... Spain And Spanish Culture When examining any culture, pieces of other ideologies and cultural normalities different than the foremost culture prevail, intertwining different cultures together. Spain, historically, has been known to be a passing point for a wide variety of religious groups. During the ancient world, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish peoples coexisted, each ultimately contributing to Spanish culture. Starting around 701 C.E., Muslim forces began to expand into areas around the Middle East, gradually broadening this land mass to reach Spain. Initially, Arab invaders were met with vigorous resistance; however, as time went on, invaders experienced little opposition, allowing them to reap city after city. Within the newly Arab conquered cities, other religious groups faced little discrimination. Additionally, this conquest established the ever present influence of Islam on Spanish culture. In this case, Spain adopted Islamic cultural innovations such as: forms of writing, religious aspects, architectural styles, and materials supplied for said architectural innovations. Trailing into the modern world, traces of Islamic culture are evidently intertwined into Spanish culture. Due to Spain s rich history in interweaving cultures, it can be said that Spanish culture is intensely influenced by Islamic culture through the invasion of Arab military in medieval time, visually retaining influence through culture, religion, and architecture. At the beginning of the early 700s, Muslims from the Arabian Peninsula began their conquest by convincing nearby Germanic tribes to surrender; though it was not until they travelled across the Straits of Gibraltar and attacked around 711 that their expansion truly began. As stated earlier, other religious groups within Muslim Spain faced little discrimination. This impartial society could be explained by the Treaty of Tudmir. This treaty promised that [Christians] will not be coerced in matters of religion, their churches will not be burned, nor will sacred objects be taken from the realm (Treaty of Tudmir). Islamic forces continued their invasion and took control of Zaragoza, Spain by 714 C.E. In an opportunity to encourage his men, Tarik, a leader in the conquest of Spain wrote: attack this ... Underground mining is what people use to extract hard minerals from underground some of those are Gold, Copper, Iron, Metal and Zinc, and many more minerals found underground. Room and pillar is when the ore is extracted in a horizontal line. There are two phases to extracting a mineral using the room and pillar method. Surface mining is when you find minerals either above the surface or on the surface in soil etc. The two most popular ways to do surface mining is open pit mining and strip mining. Open pit mining is when you extract rocks from the earth s surface in open pits, the minerals found using open pit mining are Ores, copper and aluminium. Strip mining is when you get rid of soil and rocks above a layer of coal normally and you then extract the mineral, coal is the only mineral normally extracted using the strip mining method. How Did Chinese Technology Change Over Europe China enjoyed a number of technological advances over Europe in the period running up to the 15th century, most significantly the development of gunpowder, compasses and printing. These inventions revolutionised European technology facilitating exploration, conquest and literature. Unlike in Europe, these inventions were not put to such use by the Chinese who held a fairly isolationist view. Meaning that they did not involve themselves in trade to nearly the same degree as many Europeans. This can be contributed to the fact that China did not utilize their inventions to nearly the same extent as Europe. Lynda Shaffer is to a broad extent in agreement with this as she argues that Needham s question can thus be understood to mean, Why didn t China use gunpowder to destroy feudal walls? Why didn t China use the compass to cross the Pacific and discover America, or to find an all sea route to Western Europe? (Lynda Shaffer, World History Bulletin, Fall/Winter 1986/87). This can broadly be explained by the fact that long historical unity of China, covering a large land mass, meant that it was mostly self sufficient. China did not need the outside world, which was inferior anyway . (Roy Bailey, EC120, week 3). Moreover, China was never exposed to the fiercely competitive states system of Europe (Roy Bailey, EC120, week 3), which would have demanded China to remove itself from an isolationist position in order for the country to survive. In contrast to this, European countries took advantage of the newly discovered technologies. The use of gunpowder in Europe made castles and other such structures associated with the medieval period obsolete, as castles were no matches for something, which could destroy their walls. Slavery has been known as a cruel war again human nature itself, violating many basic and cherished human rights of life and liberty, (Leary, 2015). This research paper will examine modern day slavery and the many different aspects that play a role in carrying it out in today s society. As modern day slavery is defined, reasons for the cause will be noted, along with the affects, abuse of power and rights, and possible solutions. With many definitions of slavery out there, predominantly it can be referred to as a practice with different elements such as: ownership of a person as chattel, loss of free will and control over many aspects of self but especially their labor power, and control being asserted through violence, degradation, or threat. With slavery defined, the correlation between slavery and human trafficking of forced labor can easily be linked and observed. There is a connection of ownership of a person as chattel where the victim loses their rule of specifically their labor power through violence, degradation, and threats such as deportation, (Leary, 2015). Looking at modern slavery through this perspective, there is recognition that societies, economics, and social structures do alter over time. • 31. Persuasive Essay On Forgiveness In a biblical manner, forgiveness roughly translates to letting go . Instead of holding a grudge to the offender, we should give them pardon. In Luke 11:4, we are given the passage of: And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Jesus used an example of this when comparing a person seeking repayment from a debt found in Matthew 18:23 35. Likewise, the act of forgiving does not come easy. In order to begin the journey of forgiveness, one should first let go of any resentment towards the particular person or situation that is causing destress. Once the resentment is gone, one can attempt to abandon the notion of being rewarded for their loss whether financial, personal, or something else. Forgiveness also entails benefits that can improve health and increase our progress towards living a wholesome Christian life. Proverbs 14:30 tells us that a heart with a peace and calmness in it gives life to the body but one with jealousy and bitterness leads to wrong desires similar to rotting bones. However, the greatest part to forgiving others is to exemplify how God forgave us for our own sins. In order to be forgiven by God, we must forgive people for their sins. If we fail to do this though, God will not forgive us for our sins (Matthew 6:14 15). 2 Peter 1:10 dictates that Christians should be more eager in making their calling and election since doing these makes sure that we will never fail. Our calling is God s salvation for us while our election is God picking us to be saved. Since God called and elected on us from his own glory and goodness, we must serve as examples to others by pursuing Godly virtues while actively living in a Christian lifestyle. Numerous people struggle in letting go of their respective past and carry on their baggage into their future. Not only does this prevent them from growing, it prevents them from achieving a happy life. As we interact with people similar to this, we can show them that they too can be resolved from their past issues. Personally, I forgive pretty easily as I think holding grudges is a waste of time and does not accomplish anything positive. However, I did have a hard time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Daniel Gilbert Reporting Live From Tomorrow Analysis Happiness in Old Age In Daniel Gilbert s Reporting Live from Tomorrow , Gilbert makes use of statistics, studies, and experiments to convey a multitude of ideas, primarily the concept that while many people are opposed to, or are in disbelief of it, turning to surrogates as means of predicting our own future is quite effective. Gilbert s concepts and theories are quite important to take into consideration not only as a general message of how human beings tend to let factors such as their imagination or their own self image cloud their perspective on the future, but rather as an alternative viewpoint and how through surrogates, we are able to make more accurate predictions on our own future, such as what will be providing us happiness when ... By looking past this, it allows us to be less hesitant in looking at others when it comes to predicting our own future, especially in the case of those around us that may be pursuing similar goals, majors, or careers. In the case of predicting my own future in particular, I d have to rely mainly of the adults around me in my life, as well as various older acquaintances that have shared stories of their similar interests and what those developed into. Ultimately, from this perspective I can assume in my later years I d find much of my happiness through writing and reading, specifically in topics or areas that are more reflective of my later interests. What s important to note here is that while numerous adults and figures in my life do enjoy and share these hobbies and find much of their happiness in them, it s also worth acknowledging that many of their interests, jobs, and ultimately people who they surround themselves with is consistent, in my case that s still very much subject to change. Assess the impact of interference by foreign powers on China s development in the 20th century During the 20th century China underwent a massive transformation. In the early 1900s China was a mass of land lacking any real political cohesion and so was plagued by disputes between the many ruling warlords. However, by the year 2000 China was considered a major contender on the world stage and still is today; it almost seems certain that China will become the most powerful nation on earth in the next 50 years. This major transformation is seen to be a great success of China, considering the relatively short amount of time in which it was accomplished, but the question still remains as to whether entire credit should be given to China ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the burgeoning hope of a strong independent China, free of the exploitation of foreign powers, Sun Yat Sen s aims were not achieved. However, this laid the basis for China s ideal of developing their own independence. A politician of great significance was Mao Zedong, the first Chairman of the People s Republic of China. He had possibly the largest impact on the development of China, particularly with policies such as his agricultural reform. Foreign interference, by way of Japan s invasion (1937 49), had had a great negative effect on economic development. Their original intent to exploit China s resources was manifested in mass murder across the country (the rape of Nanking being a focussed example of this) and such destruction of infrastructure and mass looting that instances of cannibalism became quite widespread. Hence, it was to Mao that much of the task of reforming and rebuilding fell. Mao s greatest achievement, and the core of any development free of foreign interference, was his success in harnessing the unquenchable spirit of the Chinese people. The visualization in the poem, however serves as dual purpose of illustrating not only the landscape and characters for its audiences but also their personal image to society. Gold, while first mentioned in the opening lines as a supplementary visual for the ensign of a heroes shroud, progresses quickly to become an embedded value in the world of Beowulf (Line 45, page 50). While most people would consider the application of gold in the text, as a simple model of economic value for the Geats and Danes, is in truth a symbolic use of societal value. Societal value, in Beowulf is seen through the use of imposing cultural normality s and customs, in which the characters find themselves obeying and also embracing at every turn. For characters such as King Hrothgar, he uses gold as a means to demonstrate wealth and power by offering Beowulf physical gold as a sign of his societal accomplishment. As the text progresses, gold is symbolically applied as apart of the characters traits and power, with the title character of Beowulf proactively attempting retrieve gold from a dragon as means to maintain his societal duties as a lord to his people.
