It was October 1965 we moved to Douglas and lived in a pallid apartment building downtown, as it
was all I could afford. Although it small, the town encompassed the loud personality of stereotypical
families who had opinions on everything and everyone.
The frail, dying leaves obfuscated the path down Lincoln Avenue where I walked, glancing at the
nebulous clouds drift through the sky. At eight this morning, I dropped off my two children,
Evelynn and Paul, at their elementary school and walked to Jefferson Regional Hospital where I

lineage. Although it recedes far into the past, its virulent hands seep into our future grasping,
