Classroom curriculum and schools should provide more opportunities for play to promote healthy child development. Play is fundamental for cognitive, intellectual, emotional, and social development. It helps develop social skills, language, cognition, problem-solving skills, and flexibility. Like young mammals, children spend a significant time playing to develop these skills. Encouraging learning through play promotes a well-rounded child. However, with busy lifestyles, children have fewer opportunities for free play. Schools and curriculum need to incorporate more time for play.
