Traditional Igbo Medicine
How did the traditional Igbo medicine change during the time when it took place in the book?
Well to start off, it modified by slowly converting into the way of the white people medicine. The
medicine comes from all around the world, but during that time it only came from nearby. It was
hard to get and find a drug that best suit your everyday problems. Not only did they have natural
herbs, but dolls as well. Dolls played a significant role in the Igbo culture including crafts such as
sculptures and carvings. To begin, this essay we will discuss the Igbo healers, their medicine, and
agwu deity.

Social Education And The Competent Social Work Practitioner
Social Work Education and the Competent Social Work Practitioner
Introduction
Social work education needs to focus on teaching global issues and applying the structural and
anti oppressive principles of practice (Razack Badwell, 2006). According to Mohan (2005) stated
by Razack Badwell (2006) that the social work profession seems to be silent to teach students to
achieve adequate skills to think and act globally. This essay will be divided into five sections. The
first section will briefly describe the topic. The second section will discuss the global issues in
social work education. The third section will discuss the anti oppression approach in social work
practice. The fourth section will discuss the importance of the structural social work practice.
Finally, the fourth section will justify the thesis statement with support of the literature.
Global issues in social work education There are plenty of global issues that need to be
incorporated in social work education. Major issues in the global context are immigration, refugees,
terrorism, security, racism and gender issue. A significant number of people immigrated into
Canada and the USA due to war and poverty. However, since 9/11 the view regarding the Arabs and
Muslims has changed and increase their oppression and marginality. So, these globalization issues
create challenging moments and opportunity for the practitioner and the educators to deal with
these issues effectively (Razack Badwell, 2006).These

The Unjust American Freedom
The Unjust Freedom The way the Americans gained independence may not be as valiant as it
seems. The war lacked just war criteria despite many arguments. The idea was foolish and
unnecessary and proved the lack of development amongst this young territory. Many factors lead
to this premature uprising and the French and Indian War is a great reason for most of those
factors. The decision by the American colonists to revolt against British rule was premature and
overly aggressive. The American plea for a Revolution did not meet the criteria of a just war.
The factors for a just war are as follows: probability of success, last resort, proportionate cause,
comparative justice, competent authority, just cause, and right intention (Keown American ). For
a war to be just, the war must meet all of the criteria for a just war. Though it s hard to name a
war that met all of the just war criteria, it is just as hard, if not harder to name a war that was
justified. At the time, the probability of success would be against the colonists. The British had the
best navy in the world at the time and were a global powerhouse (Keown American ). The fight
was not a Кєlast resortКє because independence had been gained from Britain without raising arms
(Keown КєAmericanКє). The colonists lacked proportionate cause because the colonists already
had financial issues and needed foreign mercenary aid to help finance the fight (Keown
КєAmericanКє). Transition There are various points that one could argue

Hate Crime In America
Hate crime has been an ongoing issue in America. The Federal Bureau of Investigation report
released in 2014 recorded 5928 hate crimes and 7242 victims. Hatred and antagonism are not new to
American society; it s only getting worse and more ingrained gradually. It is striking to know that
the communities America has alienated, such as African Americans and women, have always been
integral elements in its society. To better comprehend victimization, the subsequent aspects will be
analyzed: ethnicity and religion.
Arabs and Islam
The relationship between the United States and the Middle East has not been the best. This has
been as a result of past battles between the U.S and the Middle East. For example the United States

This is the most reliable and precise information available to analyze victim types (The United
States Department of Justice). It enlists all the crimes that have been registered but does not
display data on all crimes.
Conclusion
Victimization is a consequence of the weak terrorizing the weaker. Individuals that commit acts of
discrimination, bias or other kinds of isolated mischief bear some form of deficiency. It has been
explained that victims can originate from crime attributed with society, families and peers. They
can usually be identified from the Victimology theory profile. Surroundings, environment and
opportunity are only some of many components that provoke people to victimize others. September
11, 2001 was a black day that America will not easily forget; however, it certainly not licenses
Americans to abuse Arab Americans.
By categorizing them terrorists as a whole, Americans have abandoned their rationale and civility.
The killing or torture of Arab Americans will not undo the loss suffered on 9/11. It is important to
identify the enemy and not to hold the innocent responsible for misdeeds of

Objective:
We will determine the acceleration of the weights of an Atwood s Machine, both experimentally
and theoretically. We will attempt to verify Newton s Second law which is a mathematical
statement relating force, mass, and acceleration. Newton s Second law states that acceleration, a, is
directly related to net force, F, and inversely related to mass, m. Naturally this give F=ma. Using
the Atwood s Machine experimental acceleration data (for 10 different runs with 10 different
combinations of masses) will be gathered and compared to the theoretical acceleration which is
predicted by Newton s Second Law using a modified version of F=ma. The only two variables in
this system system that we will control are the the two masses. We ... Show more content on

The inversely proportional relationship between total mass and acceleration is also shown in
our graph. I took the liberty of plotting the non constant mass by F vs. aexp. Which clearly
showed that with an increase in total mass resulted in a gradual decrease of the acceleration of
the system. There were several sources of error in our experiment. But none affected the ability
for a relationship between mass, acceleration, force to be drawn. The largest error was the one
mentioned above. But its source was the easiest to account for. We mis imputed the value of the
spoke length into DataStudio. Luckley this mistake was easily remedied due to the design of
the pulley. The electronic eye was recording a time that was exactly half of what it should have
been. This time data produced an acceleration that was exactly double what it should be.
Therefore this was issue was easily remedied by dividing the times by 2. Other sources of error
were due to the frictional forces in the pulley system, also the masses of the weights might not
have been perfect. Air resistance was a major player when the difference in masses was large,
therefore acceleration was high. The weights could have been verified to eliminate that error, and
more advanced physics could have been used to take into account the friction of the pulley and the
air resistance.

Sensori-neural Deafness Essays
Sensori neural Deafness Sensori neural deafness is medically irreversible. It is caused by a
malfunction of the inner ear. So when sounds reach the inner ear, they go no further. In normal
cases the sound will be transmitted to the brain. The cause of hearing impairmenthas various forms.
Such as, a fault in the genetic blueprint, if one chromosome from either parent is damaged. This is
the main cause of a child having it before birth. Deafness can be caused at any stage of life. Birth

A strap on a child s waist and then a wire to the ear attaches it. It gives the better hearing compared
to the smaller aids. I feel the post aural hearing aid would be best for Lisa. As if you look at her age
and she will already feel different, with her impairment. The smaller aid that she could cope with
would be the post aural. Lisa being a girl may feel more comfortable if the aid is not seen. She
could grow her hair over her ears so the aid was hidden.
Lisa may talk more loudly than necessary, she may not respond to average sound levels but
responses to louder sounds. She will experience language problem, as understandable speech pattern
both to and from Lisa. Sign language will build on parent child relationships to have appropriate
communication. Special training could be taken such as language acquisition, auditory training,
perceptual motor training or speech therapy to name a few.
Lisa s language development maybe delayed. It is vital that early years practitioners work
closely with Lisa. In some cases it is the early years workers, which make the first stages of the
diagnosis. As parents may not see a loss of hearing just lack of response from child. But as being
deep in concentration or naughtiness. Lisa may miss some language what is said to her. Lisa s
overall development has a strong link to her language development. Cognitive development will

John Locke s Second Treatise Of Government
John Locke and the founding father did not include every single right in the Constitution,
however, that does not mean that a right can be claimed without the people s consent. In the
Second Treatise of Government, John Lock discusses the prerogative right that a President can
claim. The prerogative right is the right of a president to act according to discursion for the
public good . Executive Privilege is not usually an issue when the President acts in the common
good of individuals because most individuals understand why the action is taken. When an action
is for the public good, the people are very seldom or never scrupulous or nice in the point or
questioning of prerogative whilst it is in any tolerable degree employed for the use it... Show more

This was the case in United States v. Nixon. In this case, John Locke would say But when
mistakes or flattery prevail with weak princes, to make use of this power, for private ends of
their own and not for the public good, the people were fain by the express laws, to get
prerogative determined in those points wherein they found disadvantage from it, and declare
limitations of prerogative in those cases which they and their ancestors had left in the utmost
latitude to the wisdom of those princes who made no other but a right use of it... . John Locke is
pointing out that the people always retain the right to revoke or modify a prerogative given to
the President when that prerogative is not being used in the best interest of the public. Due to
this fact, the proposed test does not allow a President to invoke Executive Privilege for decisions
that are not related to national security or past actions. There is no public interest in a President s
actions prior to taking the Presidential Oath and office. The President must be held accountable for
his actions as a civilian and being President cannot stop that from happening. The same applies to
when the President is completing his daily duties. There is no need for a President to dear being
sued if he is acting in the best interest of the country. Justice White highlighted a similar theory to
that of John Locke in his dissent from United States v.

The History Of Han China
Though the people of Islamic belief are scattered throughout China, the greatest concentration of
Muslims reside in the autonomous region of Xinjiang. This region is distinctly non Han in its
ethnic composition, since the Uyghurs account for nearly 75 percent of its population; the cultural
makeup of this region is comprised of Turkic language and beliefs in Islam (Clarke and Hayes 3).
However, the influx and growth of the Han Chinesepopulation in Xinjianghas created a language
barrier in which the Uyghurs have become the regional minority. In the past, the Uyghurs have been
continuously oppressed and silenced by their rulers. Even today, the Uyghur are subject to unfair
treatment in respect to education and professional opportunities.... Show more content on

After the revolution, the CCP attempted to reconcile by introducing policies allowing ethnic and
religious expression. This allowed Uyghur scholars to express their versions of history and culture,
which was not always consistent with Chinese rhetoric.
Unfortunately, China is taking steps back on their allowance of Islamic and Uyghur language
expression in Xinjiang. In March 2017, China banned burqas and abnormal beards in Xinjiang
claiming the action as a crackdown on religious extremism (Dearden, China bans... ). In July
2017, China went back on their allowance of Uyghur language in schools by banning its use in
Xinjiang (Staff, RFA. China Bans... ). In September 2017, the Chinese police ordered Muslims to
hand in copies of the Koran and prayer mats (Heffron, Chinese police... ). All of these efforts have
been claimed to regulate and reduce extremism.
One of the distinguishing characteristics between the Uyghurs and Han is the language, a
difference that can be detrimental for Uyghurs looking for success within the dominating Han
society. While the Han use Mandarin, the Uyghurs use a Turkic derivative that is significantly
divergent. The Uyghurs believe that their language is central to their ethnic identity and refuse to
allow it to be forgotten beneath the pressure of Mandarin use. However, it is difficult for

Eastern Religions Vs Western Religions Essay
Difference between Eastern and Western Religion
Eastern religions and western religions have a vast amount of difference, but there is one common
thing and it is faith and trust towards the god of each religion by their followers. Eastern religion
follows many gods, whereas Western religion follow only one god. Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism,
and Jainism are eastern religions. Christianity, Judaism, Islam is western religions. It is very
common to find people from Eastern countries following their religion in western countries and
people from Western countries following their religion in Eastern countries. Hinduism and
Buddhism believe that god is the part of their life and they feel the god in their regular activities,

Eastern religion highly focuses on feminism. The people in eastern culture are more
conservative than people in western culture. Eastern culture is inflexible in their belief and they
are not ready to change easily. They are more conservative. In western culture, people are more
flexible and more open. For example, in India, elders are considered as highly respected and
leader of the family and important decisions related to their children s life is made by elders.
Indians respect their elders by touching their elder s feet. Western culture s belief about respecting
elder is completely different. Eastern and Western religions additionally vary in the way
individuals adore them. In Western culture, individuals normally shape gatherings and love
together at a particular place and time. These continuous get togethers make a feeling of group
inside a group and individuals will associate after administrations. In Eastern culture, individuals
will probably express their religion whenever. Individuals will visit the temples at whatever point
they are free and love secretly at home. They will include religious practices into their every day

Becoming The Gospel Michael Gorman
In his new book Becoming the Gospel Michael Gorman provides an interesting look at the life and
letters of the apostle Paul. Gorman wants his readers to consider that more than knowing the gospel
and its power to save, Paul want his recipients of his letters to live out the gospel in their lives. Thus
Gorman s central argument in this book is that Paul wanted the communities he addressed...to
become the gospel, and in so doing to participate in the very life and mission of God (Gorman 2).
Gorman explores this idea by taking the reader through a look at the letters of Paul using a
missio Dei lens, to provide a new view of what Paul is teaching to these early Christian
communities. Gorman begins by developing the central idea of the mission die in the Pauline
letters by having us consider what it would do to our understanding to consider the mission of
God in what Paul wrote in those letters. In this chapter he defines for the rest of the book what he
means by mission Dei. Gorman sums up Paul s understanding as, God is on a mission to to
liberate humanity...from the powers of sin and death (Gorman 24). In the rest of chapter one
Gorman develops this by looking at Paul, salvation and our participation in God s mission. Next
Gorman invites us to read Paul missionally, by introduction the Missional Hermeneutic (Gorman
50). This hermeneutic is, reading the biblical text as witness to God s purposes in the world and as
an invitation to participate in...divine

Why Are Camera Angles Look Smaller, Harmless, Scarier
Camera angles play a massive part by making the characters look bigger, smaller, harmless, and
scarier . The director uses two main types of camera angles, high, and low angles. High angles
look down on a person, making then look smaller. Low angles look up to a person making them
look bigger. Lighting gives shadows to the charactermaking them look bigger, and scarier , it also
sets off an atmosphere (happy, scary, and dull). When Ms. Trunchbull barges into the classroom
the lighting is very dark, dull, and sinister. The camera angles they use were a low angle, making
her look bigger, taller, and scarier. The end scene with Matilda, and Miss. Honey, the lighting was
very bright, happy, and gives of a happy atmosphere. The camera angle they

The Rich Brother Tobias Wolff Analysis
In Tobias Wolff s short story, The Rich Brother , two brothers living completely different lives
reunite when Donald s car breaks down, and the wealthier of the two Pete, invites him to stay at
his house. Not only is Pete a kind, sensible person but he is wealthy, married, has a sustainable
job, two daughters, a sailboat, and a house near the ocean. Compare this to Donald, someone
who owes Pete a lot of money, settles for what he can afford, and is always on the move, and
Pete is the richer of the two brothers. First of all, Pete is living an enjoyable life, at the age of
forty Pete took up sky diving with two of his friends. (Wolff 324) He is doing things that he
describes as mystical and he doesn t have to worry about how much it costs. (Wolff 324) The
most adventurous thing that Donald did was live on a farm outside Paso Robles . (Wolff 324)
Donald worries each time Pete lends him money and is always worrying about everyone else s

This, and other assets that Pete has, shows how wealthy he really is. This is the complete

can tell how wealthy Pete is, is when Donald asks to borrow some money for the coffee and
sandwiches and Pete took five twenties from his wallet , a lot more than the actual cost of the
coffee and sandwiches. (Wolff 326) When Donald saw it he was horrified, symbolizing that he
rarely sees that much money at one time. After Donald tried to deny taking the money, Pete
excused himself explaining that he can t keep track of all these nickels and dimes . (Wolff 326)

Why Is Charlie Gordon Important In Flowers For Algernon

passion to become intelligent, have friends, and fit it in. But there is one obstacle in his way,
Charlie is mentally challenged. Since Charlie is desperate to become intelligent, he takes the leap to

which I would like to have you read and have published (Keyes 239). This shows that Charlie

having the surgery because he got to make scientific discoveries that may have changed the field of
science.
Another reason Charlie should have had the A.I. Surgery is that he achieved his goal of
becoming smart. Also, Charlie was able to begin reading and writing better. An example of this is
we are reading a very hard book. I never read such a hard book before. It s called Robinson Crusoe
about a man who gets merooned on a dessert Iland (Keyes 229). This specifically shows that
Charlie is now able to comprehend and read harder books like he wasn t able to before. Charlie was

Risks And Consequences Of Employees
With the world we live in rapidly changing, the world we once knew so well is now a thing of the
past. With the constant changes and advancements occurring in the business world, its essential for
employers to invest in employees who are willing to take intelligent risks in order for their business
to flourish. However, within the constantly changing world we live in today, finding prospective
employees with this risktaking characteristic are hard to find. Many people in our society today
are in constant fear of failure which is why none of them are taking risks. But what many of these
people aren t considering is that although there is a possibility of failure, there is also a huge
possibility for success which is why they should be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this is only deemed true if we see how this mistake is influencing our life. But the
dilemma many people face is instead of trying to understand why this mistake is occurring and
how this mistake is impacting them, many people avoid the fact that they even made one solely
because they don t want to be seen as imperfect or, in other words, a failure. In his essay, How to
Learn From Mistakes , Scott Berkun states, refusing to acknowledge mistakes, or tendencies to
make similar kinds of mistakes, is a refusal to acknowledge reality. If you can t see the gaps,
flaws, or weaknesses in your behavior you re forever trapped in the same behavior and
limitations you ve always had, possibly since you were a child (Berkun). With this being said, in
order to improve we have to face our mistakes head on rather than avoid them. If we constantly
avoid them, a lesson is never learned which results in risks being taken that could be detrimental
to an individual s personal success and more importantly, in this case, their success in the
workplace. Having the ability to cope with change is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle in
your personal life and your life at work. Change can happen so quickly many people are not
mentally prepared for it when it occurs. However, in the business world, it is something that
constantly happens and there is no way around it. This is one of the key reasons why having the

tries to figure out some leading challenges to addressed, and extracting the best strategy for team

As a strategy to build an efficient team it is important to have a good leader and for each individual
team member to know what task he or she will take on. This is why communication is so important.
The team needs to be able to communicate with one another. To communicate issues, ideas,
thoughts and all other information that needs to be shared.
Challenges or Barriers
Some challenges or barriers that may happen with building teams are miscommunication,
jealously, members may feel as if another member is not completing his or her share of work,
and some members may not be used to working with a team. Miscommunication can lead to
many issues. If everyone in the team is not on the same page it will be hard for the team to meet
their goals and complete task. Jealously can also occur and cause a team member to not try as
hard to complete his or her share of work. If this happens the entire team will suffer. One of the
most common conflicts have been faced in working in teams is the fact that some team members
may not contribute as much as others. This can causes hurtles and may even cause groups to form
within the team causing separation. Another barrier that can arise is the fact that some team
members may not be used to working with others and may not be able to trust that his or her team
will complete their share of the task.

different categories and identities of gender, race, age, and ability work together to form experiences
and opinions. By marginalizing, controlling, and regulating the sexualities and bodies of those who
were women, people of colour, adolescents, or differentially abled, the social norm of a white,
heterosexual, patriarchy has been enforced through history. Throughout the history of humankind,
women s bodies and sexualityhave been critiqued, chastised, and judged by society. During the
witch craze of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, many women were accused of being evil
beings. Over 60,000 women were wrongfully executed by their accusers . It was believed that
woman who were midwives, challenged male authority, or were sexually promiscuous and given
themselves to Satin and were now evil and immoral beings. The more feminine senses, touch,
smell, and taste were often associated with being a witch . By accusing women who were sexual
agents or who were associated with women s bodies or sexuality (such as midwives) of being evil
and executing them, men were able to use gender to

Essay on Hunger Games
The Hunger Games The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins has many characteristics of a
dystopian society. Propaganda is used throughout the book to control the citizens of society. The
people of the twelve districts have their Information, independent thought, and freedom

sacrifice them and there s nothing you can do. If you lift a finger we will destroy ever last one of

Michael Jordan Identity Crisis Essay
I never thought I would have something in common with Michael Jordan that is until I was cut
from the high school basketball team. It may not seem significant to most people but to someone
who lived, breathed, and loved the sport for eight years, it was detrimental. Identity crisis does not
even begin to describe what I faced after this defeat. Friends, teachers, and classmates alike

self confidence plummeted and embarrassment was recurrent. I found myself pondering Why did

Examples Of Chivalry In Beowulf
Some say chivalry is dead , I don t think so. Chivalry is a code of conduct governing a knight s
behavior. It s the combination of qualities expected of an ideal person, especially bravery,
loyalty, and honor. One of the main elements of chivalry is bravery, in the story we read Beowulf
s last Battle, an example of braver was , He could see how his king was suffering ... Wiglaf mind
was made up ; he raised his yellow shield and drew his sword. in the story Wiglaf went back to
help his king fight, that showed bravery. An example of bravery today is people going/volunteer
in the military and army. That shows bravery because, you re sacrificing your life for other and
your country. The second element of chivalry is loyalty, in the story we read called Le Monte d
Arthur, an example of loyalty was My lords, I am reluctant to shed christian blood in a war
against my own liege. He is showing loyalty to his king by not wanting to go to war with him. An
example of Loyalty today is people being loyal to their country, like pledging to the flag, that shows

Similarities And Differences Of Snow White Story
Snow White is a fairytale that never gets old. Countless young children know the tale by heart: A
young, beautiful girl tries to live a happy life while her mother tries to kill her due to Snow White
being prettier than her. Snow White, though, has a much more profound, unexploited history.
There are many versions of this story that not a lot of people read. Two texts that were particularly
fascinating were Gold Tree and Silver Tree as well as Nourie Hadig. In Gold Tree and Silver Tree,
Silver Tree becomes jealous with Gold Tree s beauty and tries to kill her newlywed daughter, but
Gold Tree made a new friend, and she helped take care of Silver Tree. In Nourie Hadig, Nourie is
left in the forest by her father because her motherwants to kill her. There, she takes care of a prince
all the while her mother is trying to find her. Both these stories have amazing similarities and
striking differences, but the similarities significantly outweigh the differences. The stories are
astonishingly similar many ways, but their characters are the most standout thing about these
stories. While these figures have their differences, the similarities are much more eye catching.
These characters are similar because their personalities follow a similar rhythm throughout the
stories and their actions also stay the same. These stories characters represent the reason why these
stories commonly have been given the title of being the origins of Snow White. Their protagonists,

Causes Of The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill
The 1989 Exxon Valdez Oil Spill was the largest ship based oil spill in US waters where more
than 11 million gallons of crude oil poured into the Gulf of Alaska after the ship ran aground on
Bligh Reef in Prince William Sound, Alaska. The main causes of the accident were attributed to
a fatigued crew, a lack of a proper navigation team while transiting through the Sound, and an
inadequate ship design. The oil spill led to federal legislation for ship hull requirements, oil spill
prevention and response improvements, and new escorting requirements through the Sound.
On 22 March 1989, the Exxon Valdez arrived in Valdez, Alaska at 2330 to begin loading cargo
bound for Long Beach, CA (Alaska Oil 1990, 5). Capt. Joseph Hazelwood and other officers
drove into town the following morning with William Murphy, the pilot who would be leading
the ship through the Valdez Narrows. According to the National Transportation Safety Board
(NTSB 1989,29), Hazelwood in addition to finishing ship business and running errands had a
few alcoholic drinks that afternoon at a local bar and at least one more drink as the group waited
for dinner. At 2024 on 23 March, the officers returned to the ship at 2024 and found out that the
ship was ready to depart at 2100. The ship was originally scheduled to depart at 2200. Before the
officers returned, Third Mate Gregory Cousins had performed pre departure equipment tests and
found that the tests were successful. The ship set sail and was clear of the dock

Catullus Masculinity
Liam Connerly Professor Aislinn Melchior Latin 201 26 October 2015 A Skewed Perception of
Masculinity in Ancient Rome Catullus 16, A Reply to My Critics is a poem written by the
Roman poet Gaius Valerius Catullus that was deemed so obscene it was not published in its
entirety in English until the latter part of the 20th century (Winter). To give the poem some
context, this aggressive rebuttal was addressed to two men, Furius and Aurelius, who are also
referenced to as Catullus critics he is replying to. These two men tend to appear in other poetry by
Catullus, where he, again, employs the use of abusive language at them. These rather intrusive
retorts are based on the Roman contructs of masculinity, as Catullus exhibits the need to portray a
dominating demeanor upon his critics in order to deny the claims of Aurelius and Furius, that the
nature of his poetry is mollis, meaning soft and tender , which esstenially makes Catullus mollis.
Because of these accusations, he himself is made effeminate by these criticsims and therefore feels
the need to combat these views by aggressive attacks that fortify a perceived masculine persona.
Therefore, this poem serves is an attack on these demeaning criticisms and a demonstration of social
norms on skewed portrayals of masculinity within the Roman society. The intricate way in which
Catullus employs a particular dual resistance on the homologies in his society suggests can be
demonstrated by a careful examination

They have some good point of views that I think if we could combine them together, we would
have a perfect Social Contract. Hobbes created Social Contract in the 17th Century when the
world was wild and dangerous to him. People was too self interested that they would do whatever
it took to survive. He called it state of nature , a place where life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish,

us. His purpose was to bring safety, freedom, and peaceful environment to the society. Therefore,

large scale water projects for example the Three Gorges project in China, the South North transfer

Gender Wage Gap Inequality And Gender Inequality Essay
Armando Suqui Carchi
Professor Pantano
English 201
13 December 2016
Gender Wage Gap Inequality The gender wage inequality topic is one that has quietly laid in
Americas closet of problems for decades. A female worker in Louisiana makes on average an
alarming sixty six cents compared to the dollar a man makes in twenty sixteen. When a father
comes home after a forty hour long work week making fifteen dollars an hour, he will open up a
paycheck to six hundred dollars. When a mother comes home after working the same hours as
the father, she will prepare dinner, change your diaper, lay you down to sleep. The only
difference is her paycheck reads three hundred ninety six dollars. It is only getting more
challenging for females in today s society as well. A defining term in the last two decades
pertaining to gender wage gap inequality is the glass elevator effect. More men are choosing female
dominated jobs such as nursing, teaching etc. While females slowly try to advance by increasing
their salaries and rise up to higher paying and important positions, men seem to effortless glide
their way to the top by an invisible escalator. This is called the glass elevator effect (Forbes). In
America, this problem may go unnoticed, it is an issue dealing with cultural sexism. The broader
impact of this is generations of women doing their best to advance in society but somehow
constantly being beat. The specific claim of this topic is to bring justice and equality to women

Some ads also use similes, metaphors, personification, and onomatopoeia. The new ads show how
men should use Old Spice by making crazy commercials while showing strong famous men. They
also try to get women to buy Old Spice for their man by showing a hot man using the product and
what their man could be like if he used Old Spice. Both these techniques like showing men doing
crazy things like some men do and target the emotion in ladies to try and get their men more like
the guy in the commercial have shown to increase sales. The most famous old Spice ad was the,
The Man Your Man Could Smell Like and this ad showcased the stunning Isaiah Mustafa or
commonly known as the Old Spice Man. In the commercial he is shown on a boat with
diamonds or on a horse on an island. The actor states that if her man wore Old Spice he would be
just like him, which was a form of logos. The pathos used against men is that men do crazy things
and wearing Old Spice is for men who do crazy things. The pathos against women is that women
want a civilized hot romantic man and the ads show that if they buy Old Spice for their man, he
will be just that. The ethos was the company using hot and famous models to portray what their
products does.
The Old Spice company has used different rhetorical approaches throughout the years to influence
people to buy their products. In the 1950 s they stated it made you feel better, 1970 s said it made

Why Dynamite Is Important
Alfred Noble was a Swedish chemist, most famous for inventing dynamite. He may also be called a

basically carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen. It also contains an absorbent that contains
silicone. Now, let s get into the details, starting with Carbon. Carbons atomic number is 6, its
atomic mass is 12, and it has 6 protons, 6 neutrons and 6 electrons. The next element used in
dynamite is Hydrogen. Hydrogen s atomic number and atomic mass is 1, it has 1 proton, 1 electron,
and 0 neutrons. The third element is nitrogen. Nitrogen s atomic number is 7, it has an atomic mass
of 14. It has 7 protons, neutrons, and electrons. Finally, is the famous oxygen, with an atomic

a liquid state, if frozen at 13В°C, it becomes less sensitive to heat and shock and has a less

added to MMBC brand. It caters to regional tastes (dark, bitter). MMBC also has class cachet (it s

People seem to drink Mountain Man as a way to connect with past generations of their family.
Brand played a critical role in beer purchasing decision. The promotion of MMBC was done by
accentuating its dark color by packaging it in a brown bottle, with its original 1925 design of a
crew of coal miners printed on the front. Mountain Man Lager was priced similarly to premium
domestic brands such as Miller and Budweiser but below specialty brands such as Sam Adams.
MMBC used its own sales force to focus on off premise locations (liquor stores or supermarkets)
with much success. Blue collar males purchased 60% of the beer they drank at these off premise
locations. The decline in MMBC was due to changes in beer drinkers preferences. This decline was
happening across the whole United States to the traditional premium beer category at an annual rate
of 4%.
I believe Mountain Man should introduce a light beer to make up for the loss of sales. The
introduction into the market should be done with soft marketing in the core area that Mountain
Man Lager is the strongest, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. I am recommending

Aphorisms what are they? the definition of aphorisms is a Versation in life that explains the
general truth. Aphorisms in the book are represented as life lesson that Morrie has learned, in
his years. The two aphorisms that mean something to me are as follows: Accept what you are
able to do and what you are not able to do What if today were you last day on earth? What do
they mean to me? Accept what you are able to do and what you are not able to do . This
aphorism is the meaning of life in the color guard, but for me it s my whole life. My sister is my
constant competition. She is great at sports, school, science, everything. So I have learn to accept
with I am able to do and not to do. I am not saying it s easy but I have learned not

Fashion Food In Fashion
TRAVEL ARTICLE STREET FOOD IN LUCKNOW
Lucknow, the land of Nawabs and Kebabs we have heard this phrase about a million times from
people around us . I visited Lucknow last month and seriously there is much more to Lucknow
other than the Kebabs. Lucknow has evolved drastically with time. It is one of the largest and
fastest growing cities in Northern India with a population of 2.81 million people belonging to
different cultures and religions. People from various regions have migrated to this big city with the
dream of a better life. The cuisine of Lucknow is a reflection of this. There is 100% no doubt that
there is no match to the Kababs and Mutton Biryani of Tunday Kababi or the Chai and Samosas of
Sharma Tea Stall . But for the past decade this City has seen growth of some innovative Street food
stalls which are challenging the dominance of various food brands in Lucknow. These food stalls
are catering to all the sections I.e from foodies to health freaks at very pocket friendly rates .
They are serving comfort food with a twist . These food stalls have become a rave among the
masses. I started my search for some amazing but lesser known Street food stalls in Lucknow
with the help of my localite friend Gunjan. The first thing we tried was the tea from Raju ki Tapri
outside the Charbagh Railway station (near gate number 2) and let me tell you the chai here is
amazing, Raju serves about ten flavors of chai using ayurvedic herbs like Tulsi ,

Cardiac Muscle Structure
Structure The cardiac muscle is only found in the heart. This muscle had one nucleus and is an
involuntary striated muscle. Cardiac muscle also contains intercalated disc, which acts as a junction
between the two muscle cells in order to communicate. Also, the cell contains no motor nerve
terminals. The extracellular calcium ions and the cells of the heartact as a stimulus allowing it to
contract via electrical impulse. The cardiomyocytes/ myocardiocyteal musclecells and the one
nucleus makes up the cardiac muscle. Skeletal muscles are the muscles that are under the control of
the somatic nervous system (voluntary) and are striated. Also they have many nuclei and are
triggered into motion via electrical impulses from the motor neuron terminals connected to the
muscle fibres. These motor neurons are coordinated by the central nervous system and are
networked. A bundle of collagen fibres known as tendons is usually attached to bones of the
muscle. The muscle is made up of individual components known as myocytes. These are made up
of myofibers.
Role The main role of the cardiac muscle is to keep the heart beating. The muscle has a large
number of mitochondria and numerous myoglobins because the muscle is different to other
muscle cells as it never gets tired and it is to provide a good blood supply. ... Show more content on

No Social Conventions for Jesus
Religion Essay
Jesus did not adhere to social conventions of the time when dealing with the marginalised. Jesus
challenged social conventions by showing love, forgiveness and compassion towards women,
Samaritans, and outcasted people. In Jesus time women we re at a lower stat to men, and there was
a large lack of equality in that time.
Jesus treatment of women was unorthodox. Jesus treated women with equality and respect. This
was unusual because during the time of Jesus women were considered to be second class
citizens. They were considered inferior to men, and forced to do all the housework and cooking.
Men were seen as the more dominant role, women often were seen as lazy, and dependant on men.
In their own household, they were seen dominant, but in the eyes of the outside world, they were
seen as slaves. On their period, they were seen unclean, during this time they generally stayed
inside more often, they avoided being in contact with the outside as they would be judged and
frowned upon. Jesus treated women with compassion and kindness. This is evident when he
allowed the woman, who was seemingly seen to be a prostitute, wash his feet in her tears. Even
though he was frowned upon from those around him, he still allowed her to continue this. It is
secondly evident when Mary, the sister of Martha, had invited Jesus over for a dinner. Mary, a
woman, sat down and listened to Jesus preaching s, instead of cooking and cleaning. This left the
rest of the people listening

The Effect Of Reflex On Children s Health
Introduction:
Reflex can defined as an automatic and often inborn response to a stimulus that involves a nerve
impulse passing inward from a receptor to a nerve center and thence outward to an effector (as a
muscle or gland) without reaching the level of consciousness (Merriam Webster) or more simply
put an reaction to an action that our bodies do to return to homeostasis without us having to think
about it. Reflexes play an extremely important role in remaining healthy and protecting us from
being harmed without having to take the time to think about it. For example, infants have a suck
reflex that causes them to start sucking when the roof of their mouths are stimulated; this reflex
is obviously important because if infants did not have this reflex, they could die of starvation
since they would not be able to draw milk from their mother s breast (this is actually a problem
with premature infants as the suck reflex does not develop until between the 32nd and 36th week
of pregnancy) (Stanford Children s Health). There are two main types of reflexes the simpler
monosynaptic reflexes (or spinal reflexes) that can act without any input from the brain and the
more complex superficial reflexes which still requiring some processing from the brain. A reflex
consists of five main components, which as a group are called the reflex arc. Component one is the
sensory receptor, which receives stimulus and then sends an and impulse to the second component,
the afferent pathway. The

Attention Deficit Essay
In the early 70s, the main focus started to shift towards attention deficit rather than the concept of
hyperactivity (Lange et al., 2010). In fact, 4 years after the implementation of the DSM II,
Douglas (1972) argued that deficits such as sustained attention and impulse control deserved
more notability. Also, these symptoms responded better to stimulants treatment than
hyperactivity (Douglas, 1972). For this reason coupled with the influence of the scientific
community, a complete reconceptualization of Hyperkinetic Reaction of Childhood was
considered. In 1980, the DSM III was published and renamed the disorder Attention Deficit
Disorder (ADD) (Barkley, 2006). The disorder could now be diagnosed with or without
hyperactivity. Attention deficits and impulse control were considered more important than
hyperactivity as determinants for diagnosis (Lange et al., 2010). Moreover, the DSM III
contained an explicit numerical cutoff score for symptoms, specific guidelines for age of onset
and duration of symptoms, and the requirement of exclusion of other childhood psychiatric
conditions (Barkley, 2006, p.19). A lot of controversy emerged from these changes, as little
empirical evidence existed to support the concept of Attention Deficit disorder (Barkley, 2006).
Confusion arose concerning the similarities of both types of ADD and it was not clear if they
should be considered as the same disorder or two different psychiatric entities. Seven years later,
a revision of the DSM III (DSM III R) was published based on empirical validation. The subtype
component was removed and the disorder was renamed Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD) (APA, 1987).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The West Wind
Ode to the West Wind The poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley refers to the wind 4 times in the first
section of the poem, although we do not know until the very end of the first section why and what
he wants from the wind. In order to gain the Winds trust and confidence, the speaker comes up with
a couple examples of what the winddid in the past and is capable of. Like driving away the autumn
leaves, placing seeds in the earth, bringing thunderstorms and the death of the natural world, and
stirring up the seas and oceans. The end of the first and third line always rhymewith each other. In
the 1st part the speaker wishes that the wind could affect him the way it does leaves and clouds
and waves. Since the wind can t, the speaker asks him to play... Show more content on

the remaining s of the previous season which the wind clears away. They re also a metaphorical
representation of the pages of writing and poetry generated by the speaker or the author. Lines 5
12 is an extended simile, the author compares seeds to corpses lying in their graves. O wild West
Wind this is an example of an alliteration in the poem. We can see the use of paradox, as ghosts
flee from enchanter is quite paradoxical. Normally we think that ghosts are terrible looking and

Tracy Smith Identity
Comparative Literary Essay: Who Am I?
The journey of life does not always lead people to their desired destination; instead it spews them
out into a cold reality where they are not satisfied their our own identity. Everyone is faced with
decisions in life to make; it is ultimately how individuals think and act in these situations that makes
them human and portrays an identity for them. Humans are bound to make mistakes during these
critical decisions that affect both relationships and them as individuals; as a result people are
regretful about their identity. Sooner or later people arrive at a point in life where they want to
reassess themselves, indicating the theme of Rethinking Identity that is associated with search for
an identity, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tracy K. Smith incorporates many instants of imagery in order to convey her message, my arm on
the rest beside yours, our lights pricking at the fog, tugging us patiently. (Smith, 29,29) This picture
is clearly painted in the mind of the reader, further interpretation leads us to believe that Tracy K.
Smith is trying to find direction in life and into how she wants to both act and be perceived, as
but her path is unclear, just as the fog makes our road hazy. The use of imagery is also beneficial
as it gives the reader insight into what Tracy K. Smith thought about her identity at different
points in her life, such an instance is given in her childhood, What did it mean to smooth across
the casket of your belly? What echoed there, if not me . (Smith, 6,7) This shows that Tracy had
thought about her identity in the past, and wondered what it was. It gives the readers a sense of
not knowing themselves, this would push anyone into a search or rethinking an identity, the
same goes for Tracy. Rachel Joyce strategically uses imagery, He wanted to describe what it feels
like to find your boy in a pool of vomit and carry him to bed and mop him up and pretend in the
morning you have not seen that. He wanted to say what it was like to be a child and find the man
who was your father in the same manner. He wanted to say, What happened? Was it me? Am I the
link here? But he didn t. (Joyce, 256) Through Harold s accounts, it becomes undeniable that his
son had put him in a frictional position, mentally challenging Harold, and putting the blame on him.
His son s actions lead Harold to doubt the way he had brought his son up. Imagery paints a picture
to the characters harsh realty in both the novel and poem, which leads us doubtless into why they

The Theme Of Blindness In Cathedral By Raymond Carver
As we gain knowledge we gain understanding, giving us a different view of the world. In the story,
Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the author takes us through a day in the life of a husband who is
forced by his wife to meet and entertain her longtime friend Robert who happens to be blind. The
husband is not exactly excited by this visit. The author illustrates the characters development
beginning as apprehensive and jealous, transitioning to more of an uncomfortable feeling, and
finally ending with acceptance as the husband is put into a situation where he gains a new
understanding of the blindman. He ends the story with his eyes closed and a mind open to a new
view of the world.
As the story begins, the author seems to portray the main character as apprehensive and jealous. As
he narrates the story, the husband opens with a blunt statement, his being blind bothered me. (34) It
immediately gives the reader the impression that he was very upset about the situation he was put
in. The husband seems more concerned with the fact that the man is blind and states later that his
idea of blindness came from movies. (34) Giving once again an example of how uncomfortable
and really uninformed he was. The husband has a stereotypical view of what a blind person should
be like and sticks to those thoughts throughout the beginning of the story. This gives the impression
that he feels that blindness is more of a handicap and make Robert unrelatable. He also seemed to
be jealous of the

Well to start off, it modified by slowly converting into the way of the white people medicine. The medicine comes from all around the world, but during that time it only came from nearby. • 4. Social Education And The Competent Social Work Practitioner Social Work Education and the Competent Social Work Practitioner Introduction Social work education needs to focus on teaching global issues and applying the structural and anti oppressive principles of practice (Razack Badwell, 2006). According to Mohan (2005) stated by Razack Badwell (2006) that the social work profession seems to be silent to teach students to achieve adequate skills to think and act globally. This essay will be divided into five sections. The first section will briefly describe the topic. The second section will discuss the global issues in social work education. The third section will discuss the anti oppression approach in social work practice. The fourth section will discuss the importance of the structural social work practice. Finally, the fourth section will justify the thesis statement with support of the literature. Global issues in social work education There are plenty of global issues that need to be incorporated in social work education. Major issues in the global context are immigration, refugees, terrorism, security, racism and gender issue. A significant number of people immigrated into Canada and the USA due to war and poverty. However, since 9/11 the view regarding the Arabs and Muslims has changed and increase their oppression and marginality. So, these globalization issues create challenging moments and opportunity for the practitioner and the educators to deal with these issues effectively (Razack Badwell, 2006).These ... • 5. The Unjust American Freedom The Unjust Freedom The way the Americans gained independence may not be as valiant as it seems. The war lacked just war criteria despite many arguments. The idea was foolish and unnecessary and proved the lack of development amongst this young territory. Many factors lead to this premature uprising and the French and Indian War is a great reason for most of those factors. The decision by the American colonists to revolt against British rule was premature and overly aggressive. The American plea for a Revolution did not meet the criteria of a just war. The factors for a just war are as follows: probability of success, last resort, proportionate cause, comparative justice, competent authority, just cause, and right intention (Keown American ). For a war to be just, the war must meet all of the criteria for a just war. Though it s hard to name a war that met all of the just war criteria, it is just as hard, if not harder to name a war that was justified. At the time, the probability of success would be against the colonists. The British had the best navy in the world at the time and were a global powerhouse (Keown American ). The fight was not a Кєlast resortКє because independence had been gained from Britain without raising arms (Keown КєAmericanКє). The colonists lacked proportionate cause because the colonists already had financial issues and needed foreign mercenary aid to help finance the fight (Keown КєAmericanКє). • 6. Hate Crime In America Hate crime has been an ongoing issue in America. The Federal Bureau of Investigation report released in 2014 recorded 5928 hate crimes and 7242 victims. Hatred and antagonism are not new to American society; it s only getting worse and more ingrained gradually. It is striking to know that the communities America has alienated, such as African Americans and women, have always been integral elements in its society. To better comprehend victimization, the subsequent aspects will be analyzed: ethnicity and religion. Arabs and Islam The relationship between the United States and the Middle East has not been the best. This has been as a result of past battles between the U.S and the Middle East. For example the United States led a 34 nation to fight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the most reliable and precise information available to analyze victim types (The United States Department of Justice). It enlists all the crimes that have been registered but does not display data on all crimes. Conclusion Victimization is a consequence of the weak terrorizing the weaker. Individuals that commit acts of discrimination, bias or other kinds of isolated mischief bear some form of deficiency. It has been explained that victims can originate from crime attributed with society, families and peers. They can usually be identified from the Victimology theory profile. Surroundings, environment and opportunity are only some of many components that provoke people to victimize others. September 11, 2001 was a black day that America will not easily forget; however, it certainly not licenses Americans to abuse Arab Americans. By categorizing them terrorists as a whole, Americans have abandoned their rationale and civility. The killing or torture of Arab Americans will not undo the loss suffered on 9/11. • 7. Atwoo Objective: We will determine the acceleration of the weights of an Atwood s Machine, both experimentally and theoretically. We will attempt to verify Newton s Second law which is a mathematical statement relating force, mass, and acceleration. Newton s Second law states that acceleration, a, is directly related to net force, F, and inversely related to mass, m. Naturally this give F=ma. Using the Atwood s Machine experimental acceleration data (for 10 different runs with 10 different combinations of masses) will be gathered and compared to the theoretical acceleration which is predicted by Newton s Second Law using a modified version of F=ma. The only two variables in this system system that we will control are the the two masses. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The inversely proportional relationship between total mass and acceleration is also shown in our graph. I took the liberty of plotting the non constant mass by F vs. aexp. Which clearly showed that with an increase in total mass resulted in a gradual decrease of the acceleration of the system. There were several sources of error in our experiment. But none affected the ability for a relationship between mass, acceleration, force to be drawn. The largest error was the one mentioned above. But its source was the easiest to account for. We mis imputed the value of the spoke length into DataStudio. Luckley this mistake was easily remedied due to the design of the pulley. The electronic eye was recording a time that was exactly half of what it should have been. This time data produced an acceleration that was exactly double what it should be. Therefore this was issue was easily remedied by dividing the times by 2. Other sources of error were due to the frictional forces in the pulley system, also the masses of the weights might not have been perfect. Air resistance was a major player when the difference in masses was large, therefore acceleration was high. The weights could have been verified to eliminate that error, and more advanced physics could have been used to take into account the friction of the pulley and the air resistance. ... • 9. John Locke s Second Treatise Of Government John Locke and the founding father did not include every single right in the Constitution, however, that does not mean that a right can be claimed without the people s consent. In the Second Treatise of Government, John Lock discusses the prerogative right that a President can claim. The prerogative right is the right of a president to act according to discursion for the public good . Executive Privilege is not usually an issue when the President acts in the common good of individuals because most individuals understand why the action is taken. When an action is for the public good, the people are very seldom or never scrupulous or nice in the point or questioning of prerogative whilst it is in any tolerable degree employed for the use it... John Locke is pointing out that the people always retain the right to revoke or modify a prerogative given to the President when that prerogative is not being used in the best interest of the public. Due to this fact, the proposed test does not allow a President to invoke Executive Privilege for decisions that are not related to national security or past actions. There is no public interest in a President s actions prior to taking the Presidential Oath and office. The President must be held accountable for his actions as a civilian and being President cannot stop that from happening. The same applies to when the President is completing his daily duties. There is no need for a President to dear being sued if he is acting in the best interest of the country. This region is distinctly non Han in its ethnic composition, since the Uyghurs account for nearly 75 percent of its population; the cultural makeup of this region is comprised of Turkic language and beliefs in Islam (Clarke and Hayes 3). However, the influx and growth of the Han Chinesepopulation in Xinjianghas created a language barrier in which the Uyghurs have become the regional minority. After the revolution, the CCP attempted to reconcile by introducing policies allowing ethnic and religious expression. This allowed Uyghur scholars to express their versions of history and culture, which was not always consistent with Chinese rhetoric. Unfortunately, China is taking steps back on their allowance of Islamic and Uyghur language expression in Xinjiang. In March 2017, China banned burqas and abnormal beards in Xinjiang claiming the action as a crackdown on religious extremism (Dearden, China bans... ). In July 2017, China went back on their allowance of Uyghur language in schools by banning its use in Xinjiang (Staff, RFA. China Bans... ). In September 2017, the Chinese police ordered Muslims to hand in copies of the Koran and prayer mats (Heffron, Chinese police... ). All of these efforts have been claimed to regulate and reduce extremism. One of the distinguishing characteristics between the Uyghurs and Han is the language, a difference that can be detrimental for Uyghurs looking for success within the dominating Han society. While the Han use Mandarin, the Uyghurs use a Turkic derivative that is significantly divergent. The Uyghurs believe that their language is central to their ethnic identity and refuse to allow it to be forgotten beneath the pressure of Mandarin use. However, it is difficult for ... • 12. Becoming The Gospel Michael Gorman In his new book Becoming the Gospel Michael Gorman provides an interesting look at the life and letters of the apostle Paul. Gorman wants his readers to consider that more than knowing the gospel and its power to save, Paul want his recipients of his letters to live out the gospel in their lives. Thus Gorman s central argument in this book is that Paul wanted the communities he addressed...to become the gospel, and in so doing to participate in the very life and mission of God (Gorman 2). Gorman explores this idea by taking the reader through a look at the letters of Paul using a missio Dei lens, to provide a new view of what Paul is teaching to these early Christian communities. Gorman begins by developing the central idea of the mission die in the Pauline letters by having us consider what it would do to our understanding to consider the mission of God in what Paul wrote in those letters. In this chapter he defines for the rest of the book what he means by mission Dei. Gorman sums up Paul s understanding as, God is on a mission to to liberate humanity...from the powers of sin and death (Gorman 24). In the rest of chapter one Gorman develops this by looking at Paul, salvation and our participation in God s mission. Next Gorman invites us to read Paul missionally, by introduction the Missional Hermeneutic (Gorman 50). This hermeneutic is, reading the biblical text as witness to God s purposes in the world and as an invitation to participate in...divine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, within the constantly changing world we live in today, finding prospective employees with this risktaking characteristic are hard to find. But the dilemma many people face is instead of trying to understand why this mistake is occurring and how this mistake is impacting them, many people avoid the fact that they even made one solely because they don t want to be seen as imperfect or, in other words, a failure. In his essay, How to Learn From Mistakes , Scott Berkun states, refusing to acknowledge mistakes, or tendencies to make similar kinds of mistakes, is a refusal to acknowledge reality. If you can t see the gaps, flaws, or weaknesses in your behavior you re forever trapped in the same behavior and limitations you ve always had, possibly since you were a child (Berkun). With this being said, in order to improve we have to face our mistakes head on rather than avoid them. If we constantly avoid them, a lesson is never learned which results in risks being taken that could be detrimental to an individual s personal success and more importantly, in this case, their success in the workplace. • 27. Similarities And Differences Of Snow White Story Snow White is a fairytale that never gets old. Countless young children know the tale by heart: A young, beautiful girl tries to live a happy life while her mother tries to kill her due to Snow White being prettier than her. Snow White, though, has a much more profound, unexploited history. There are many versions of this story that not a lot of people read. Two texts that were particularly fascinating were Gold Tree and Silver Tree as well as Nourie Hadig. In Gold Tree and Silver Tree, Silver Tree becomes jealous with Gold Tree s beauty and tries to kill her newlywed daughter, but Gold Tree made a new friend, and she helped take care of Silver Tree. In Nourie Hadig, Nourie is left in the forest by her father because her motherwants to kill her. There, she takes care of a prince all the while her mother is trying to find her. Both these stories have amazing similarities and striking differences, but the similarities significantly outweigh the differences. The stories are astonishingly similar many ways, but their characters are the most standout thing about these stories. While these figures have their differences, the similarities are much more eye catching. These characters are similar because their personalities follow a similar rhythm throughout the stories and their actions also stay the same. • 28. Causes Of The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill The 1989 Exxon Valdez Oil Spill was the largest ship based oil spill in US waters where more than 11 million gallons of crude oil poured into the Gulf of Alaska after the ship ran aground on Bligh Reef in Prince William Sound, Alaska. The main causes of the accident were attributed to a fatigued crew, a lack of a proper navigation team while transiting through the Sound, and an inadequate ship design. The oil spill led to federal legislation for ship hull requirements, oil spill prevention and response improvements, and new escorting requirements through the Sound. On 22 March 1989, the Exxon Valdez arrived in Valdez, Alaska at 2330 to begin loading cargo bound for Long Beach, CA (Alaska Oil 1990, 5). Capt. Joseph Hazelwood and other officers drove into town the following morning with William Murphy, the pilot who would be leading the ship through the Valdez Narrows. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB 1989,29), Hazelwood in addition to finishing ship business and running errands had a few alcoholic drinks that afternoon at a local bar and at least one more drink as the group waited for dinner. At 2024 on 23 March, the officers returned to the ship at 2024 and found out that the ship was ready to depart at 2100. The ship was originally scheduled to depart at 2200. • 29. Catullus Masculinity Liam Connerly Professor Aislinn Melchior Latin 201 26 October 2015 A Skewed Perception of Masculinity in Ancient Rome Catullus 16, A Reply to My Critics is a poem written by the Roman poet Gaius Valerius Catullus that was deemed so obscene it was not published in its entirety in English until the latter part of the 20th century (Winter). To give the poem some context, this aggressive rebuttal was addressed to two men, Furius and Aurelius, who are also referenced to as Catullus critics he is replying to. These two men tend to appear in other poetry by Catullus, where he, again, employs the use of abusive language at them. These rather intrusive retorts are based on the Roman contructs of masculinity, as Catullus exhibits the need to portray a dominating demeanor upon his critics in order to deny the claims of Aurelius and Furius, that the nature of his poetry is mollis, meaning soft and tender , which esstenially makes Catullus mollis. Because of these accusations, he himself is made effeminate by these criticsims and therefore feels the need to combat these views by aggressive attacks that fortify a perceived masculine persona. Therefore, this poem serves is an attack on these demeaning criticisms and a demonstration of social norms on skewed portrayals of masculinity within the Roman society. The intricate way in which Catullus employs a particular dual resistance on the homologies in his society suggests can be demonstrated by a careful examination ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gender Wage Gap Inequality And Gender Inequality Essay Armando Suqui Carchi Professor Pantano English 201 13 December 2016 Gender Wage Gap Inequality The gender wage inequality topic is one that has quietly laid in Americas closet of problems for decades. A female worker in Louisiana makes on average an alarming sixty six cents compared to the dollar a man makes in twenty sixteen. When a father comes home after a forty hour long work week making fifteen dollars an hour, he will open up a paycheck to six hundred dollars. When a mother comes home after working the same hours as the father, she will prepare dinner, change your diaper, lay you down to sleep. The only difference is her paycheck reads three hundred ninety six dollars. It is only getting more challenging for females in today s society as well. A defining term in the last two decades pertaining to gender wage gap inequality is the glass elevator effect. More men are choosing female dominated jobs such as nursing, teaching etc. While females slowly try to advance by increasing their salaries and rise up to higher paying and important positions, men seem to effortless glide their way to the top by an invisible escalator. This is called the glass elevator effect (Forbes). In America, this problem may go unnoticed, it is an issue dealing with cultural sexism. MMBC also has class cachet (it s a miner s beer) it s family owned, it s perceived as being high quality and it s a legacy product. People seem to drink Mountain Man as a way to connect with past generations of their family. Brand played a critical role in beer purchasing decision. The promotion of MMBC was done by accentuating its dark color by packaging it in a brown bottle, with its original 1925 design of a crew of coal miners printed on the front. Mountain Man Lager was priced similarly to premium domestic brands such as Miller and Budweiser but below specialty brands such as Sam Adams. MMBC used its own sales force to focus on off premise locations (liquor stores or supermarkets) with much success. Blue collar males purchased 60% of the beer they drank at these off premise locations. The decline in MMBC was due to changes in beer drinkers preferences. This decline was happening across the whole United States to the traditional premium beer category at an annual rate of 4%. I believe Mountain Man should introduce a light beer to make up for the loss of sales. The introduction into the market should be done with soft marketing in the core area that Mountain Man Lager is the strongest, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. • 44. No Social Conventions for Jesus Religion Essay Jesus did not adhere to social conventions of the time when dealing with the marginalised. Jesus challenged social conventions by showing love, forgiveness and compassion towards women, Samaritans, and outcasted people. In Jesus time women we re at a lower stat to men, and there was a large lack of equality in that time. Jesus treatment of women was unorthodox. Jesus treated women with equality and respect. This was unusual because during the time of Jesus women were considered to be second class citizens. They were considered inferior to men, and forced to do all the housework and cooking. Men were seen as the more dominant role, women often were seen as lazy, and dependant on men. In their own household, they were seen dominant, but in the eyes of the outside world, they were seen as slaves. On their period, they were seen unclean, during this time they generally stayed inside more often, they avoided being in contact with the outside as they would be judged and frowned upon. Jesus treated women with compassion and kindness. This is evident when he allowed the woman, who was seemingly seen to be a prostitute, wash his feet in her tears. Even though he was frowned upon from those around him, he still allowed her to continue this. It is secondly evident when Mary, the sister of Martha, had invited Jesus over for a dinner. Mary, a woman, sat down and listened to Jesus preaching s, instead of cooking and cleaning. This left the rest of the people listening ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. The Effect Of Reflex On Children s Health Introduction: Reflex can defined as an automatic and often inborn response to a stimulus that involves a nerve impulse passing inward from a receptor to a nerve center and thence outward to an effector (as a muscle or gland) without reaching the level of consciousness (Merriam Webster) or more simply put an reaction to an action that our bodies do to return to homeostasis without us having to think about it. Reflexes play an extremely important role in remaining healthy and protecting us from being harmed without having to take the time to think about it. For example, infants have a suck reflex that causes them to start sucking when the roof of their mouths are stimulated; this reflex is obviously important because if infants did not have this reflex, they could die of starvation since they would not be able to draw milk from their mother s breast (this is actually a problem with premature infants as the suck reflex does not develop until between the 32nd and 36th week of pregnancy) (Stanford Children s Health). There are two main types of reflexes the simpler monosynaptic reflexes (or spinal reflexes) that can act without any input from the brain and the more complex superficial reflexes which still requiring some processing from the brain. A reflex consists of five main components, which as a group are called the reflex arc. Component one is the sensory receptor, which receives stimulus and then sends an and impulse to the second component, the afferent pathway. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Attention Deficit Essay In the early 70s, the main focus started to shift towards attention deficit rather than the concept of hyperactivity (Lange et al., 2010). In fact, 4 years after the implementation of the DSM II, Douglas (1972) argued that deficits such as sustained attention and impulse control deserved more notability. Also, these symptoms responded better to stimulants treatment than hyperactivity (Douglas, 1972). For this reason coupled with the influence of the scientific community, a complete reconceptualization of Hyperkinetic Reaction of Childhood was considered. In 1980, the DSM III was published and renamed the disorder Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) (Barkley, 2006). The disorder could now be diagnosed with or without hyperactivity. Attention deficits and impulse control were considered more important than hyperactivity as determinants for diagnosis (Lange et al., 2010). Moreover, the DSM III contained an explicit numerical cutoff score for symptoms, specific guidelines for age of onset and duration of symptoms, and the requirement of exclusion of other childhood psychiatric conditions (Barkley, 2006, p.19). A lot of controversy emerged from these changes, as little empirical evidence existed to support the concept of Attention Deficit disorder (Barkley, 2006). Confusion arose concerning the similarities of both types of ADD and it was not clear if they should be considered as the same disorder or two different psychiatric entities. Seven years later, a revision of the DSM III (DSM III R) was published based on empirical validation. The subtype component was removed and the disorder was renamed Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) (APA, 1987).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The journey of life does not always lead people to their desired destination; instead it spews them out into a cold reality where they are not satisfied their our own identity. Everyone is faced with decisions in life to make; it is ultimately how individuals think and act in these situations that makes them human and portrays an identity for them. Humans are bound to make mistakes during these critical decisions that affect both relationships and them as individuals; as a result people are regretful about their identity. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tracy K. Smith incorporates many instants of imagery in order to convey her message, my arm on the rest beside yours, our lights pricking at the fog, tugging us patiently. (Smith, 29,29) This picture is clearly painted in the mind of the reader, further interpretation leads us to believe that Tracy K. Smith is trying to find direction in life and into how she wants to both act and be perceived, as but her path is unclear, just as the fog makes our road hazy. The use of imagery is also beneficial as it gives the reader insight into what Tracy K. Smith thought about her identity at different points in her life, such an instance is given in her childhood, What did it mean to smooth across the casket of your belly? What echoed there, if not me . (Smith, 6,7) This shows that Tracy had thought about her identity in the past, and wondered what it was. It gives the readers a sense of not knowing themselves, this would push anyone into a search or rethinking an identity, the same goes for Tracy. Rachel Joyce strategically uses imagery, He wanted to describe what it feels like to find your boy in a pool of vomit and carry him to bed and mop him up and pretend in the morning you have not seen that. He wanted to say what it was like to be a child and find the man who was your father in the same manner. He wanted to say, What happened? Was it me? Am I the link here? But he didn t. (Joyce, 256) Through Harold s accounts, it becomes undeniable that his son had put him in a frictional position, mentally challenging Harold, and putting the blame on him. His son s actions lead Harold to doubt the way he had brought his son up. Imagery paints a picture to the characters harsh realty in both the novel and poem, which leads us doubtless into why they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. The Theme Of Blindness In Cathedral By Raymond Carver As we gain knowledge we gain understanding, giving us a different view of the world. In the story, Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the author takes us through a day in the life of a husband who is forced by his wife to meet and entertain her longtime friend Robert who happens to be blind. The husband is not exactly excited by this visit. The author illustrates the characters development beginning as apprehensive and jealous, transitioning to more of an uncomfortable feeling, and finally ending with acceptance as the husband is put into a situation where he gains a new understanding of the blindman. He ends the story with his eyes closed and a mind open to a new view of the world. As the story begins, the author seems to portray the main character as apprehensive and jealous. As he narrates the story, the husband opens with a blunt statement, his being blind bothered me. (34) It immediately gives the reader the impression that he was very upset about the situation he was put in. The husband seems more concerned with the fact that the man is blind and states later that his idea of blindness came from movies. (34) Giving once again an example of how uncomfortable and really uninformed he was. The husband has a stereotypical view of what a blind person should be like and sticks to those thoughts throughout the beginning of the story. This gives the impression that he feels that blindness is more of a handicap and make Robert unrelatable. He also seemed to be jealous of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
