Shot Duration Essay
The synopsis of the film is a worker who doesn t sleep so much, discovers a black hole in the window.
It was written and directed by Mr. Phil Samson and Mr. Olly Williams. Shot duration is 22seconds and
the entire plot is 3 minutes.
Shots breakdown of the film
Shot #1 (MCU; straight on): the shot begins by introducing the main character of the film, and shows
us the extent to which he is desperate for a better life. This is seen through the angle of shoulder,
which is slightly withdrawn from the body. The background sound being heard is that of the
photocopying machine.
Shot #2 (LS; slightly high angle): The round helps show the viewers that the movie is set in a type of
office as the buttresses match the scenery, you can see reception desk and workstations and the main
actor is also wearing a formal cloths like shirt as well as tie. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This can be heard from the sound of photocopier, producing a diegetic sounds.
Shot #3 (CU at the start, MLS at the end; straight on): The third shot establishes the main character,
whereby the top button of his shirt is unfastened, his messy hair and his bored and tired expression can
be seen.
This countenances the audience to express sympathy with the actor, they are also able to narrate to
him, as they have felt like he does at one point in time. Additionally, they will enjoy the movie more
as they will feel linked to the appeal.
Shot #4 (MLS at the start, straight on, low angled shot)The fourth shot used in this short film is an eye
line match, the main character who stereotypically is a male, stood at the photocopier earlier, he is
photocopying something and that we see him push the copier button angrily.
The usage of low angle shot here is real at proving the appeals standing, the low angle makes the actor
appear greater and more leading, which is a conventional trait of males is films. Men are largely

Ontological Argument For The Existence Of God
Throughout Proslogion Anselm defends his argument that God is which nothing greater can be
thought by providing key elements. Anselm proposes that one cannot imagine a god that is greater,
and even non believers have a conception of the western god. Anselm asserts that since everyone has
an understanding of god in their mind, then god exist in reality. This paper will evaluate some of the
main key elements that Anselm uses to prove that the ontological argument is correct in Proslogion. I
contend that Anselm does not exhibit proper terminology and provides vague statements and therefore
his argument that God is which nothing greater can be thought is invalid.
Words can carry different meanings depending on the context that it is presented ... Show more

Anselm argues that god is merciful and impassible at the same time. Those two definitions are the
complete opposite of each other. Merciful can mean showing compassion for a person and being
sympathetic towards a person who has done wrong. Impassible can mean incapable of feeling
sympathy for an individual who has done wrong. Anselm believes that god is both, but how is that
possible for a person to be compassionate and not compassionate. This statement is contradictory and
does not make logical sense because a person cannot be compassionate and not compassionate. If god
is both compassionate and non compassionate then he is indecisive because he cannot decide whether
he actually wants to punish an individual. When Anselm stated that god was both compassionate and
not compassionate he realized that it did not make sense because he even questions god. Anselm
combines words that are contradictory to each other and creates a confusing statement. This statement
is difficult to understand and creates a flaw in his ontological

The Riddle os the Fourth Gospel by Poul Anderson
Anderson writes The Riddles of the Fourth Gospel to provide students, of any level, with an overview
and evaluation of the varying approaches to understanding the Fourth Gospel, and ultimately to serve
as a guide through the controversy and riddles encountered in the Fourth Gospel. Anderson addresses
the work of the international community of Johannine scholars and introduces a new set of paradigms.
The introduction immediately captivates those who have yet to wade in the perplexities of the Fourth
Gospel by bombarding the reader with the many puzzlements of the Fourth Gospel. Anderson tackles
the issue in three parts.
Part one introduces the most perplexing of the Johannine riddles. After an outline of the Gospel of
John, Anderson presents the threefold riddles: theological, historical, and literary. Anderson considers
familiarity with the points of contention a requisite for engaging, addressing, and interpreting them.
Chapter one exposes the central features of the Fourth Gospel; which effectively reveals the
dissimilarities between John and the Synoptic Gospels. Chapter two uncovers the theological riddles
of the Fourth Gospel, both incidental and highly significant. For the twelve theological riddles
presented in chapter 2, Anderson conveys the work of Johannine scholarship as well as presents his
own incisive exegesis. Anderson does likewise in his presentation of the historical and literary riddles
in chapters 3 and 4. The first part successfully establishes the

Quality risks normally occur, when there are problems with staffing needs, which increase workload
and don t leave enough time for doing things necessary to maintain quality standards set by ISO
17025. Quality standards include logs maintaining temperature throughout the lab, such as in
incubators and fridges used for sample testing and supply storage, culture maintenance, and more.
Macroeconomic risks happen when there are economic downturns that occur suddenly, like in areas
where the company has a strong market foot hold, affecting sales growth. Client demand risk for
FSNS happens when the client needs the results for a particular result and they do not obtain it in a
timely manner causing them to not only lose precise time their product is sitting waiting to be shipped
out to consumers, but also losing money in the process, resulting in possible loss of a client to
competition and revenue loss. Industry consolidation risks cause FSNS to have less bargaining power
and price war. Not only that, it could also lead to inflated mark down on the prices for particular
sample tests. The reason for this risk is consolidation of the market and strategic alliance. Operation
risks occur when a facility isn t operated to set standard that fit into ISO 17025 guidelines. This occurs
by a lack of communication by management with techs and lack of organizing the lab in

take the time to get to know the student and what the needs are currently. The social style of the
teacher as well as the student plays an extremely important role in the success of all students. Taking

Marie Antoinette s Life During The French Revolution
During the lifetime of Marie Antoinette, France s most infamous queen, she was known as the person
who claimed, Let them eat cake as many of her own subjects were starving. The queen s life was filled
with extravagance and wonder, but she was no stranger to rumors that would come to ruin her
reputation and end her life during the French Revolution. Was Marie Antoinette truly a cruel queen or
simply an ignorant young girl who had been given power to early in her life?
Marie Antoinette was born in her home country of Austria on November 2, 1755. (Biography.com)
She was one of the many children born to the Emperor Francis the 1st and Empress Maria Theresa.
(Biography.com) Marie Antoinette had a common royal childhood and received a good education,
although what she learned was different than her brothers because she was a girl. (Biography.com) As
most royals did back at that time, the Emperor s children were used as bargaining chips and to seal
alliances. Empress Theresa was in charge of that, and arranged for Marie to be married to the
grandson of the current King of France, Louis XV. (History.com) The reasoning for this marriage was
because of the feuds between their two families, the Hapsburgs and the Bourbons. (History.com)
Before the union of the Austrian and French teenagers, Louis XV sent over a tutor to teach Marie
Antoinette. (Smithsonianmag.com) Although it was hard to get her to learn because she wasn t serious

Shane Koyczan is known in the world as an award winning spoken word poet. He was born in
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Soon after birth he went to live with his grandparents in Penticton,
British Columbia. Shane s childhood was extremely hard and painful. He had to deal with malicious
bullying, so severe that it led to him suffering depression. He believed that he could never find
happiness or love. He carried the effects of the mental, emotional, and physical abuse he endured
throughout his childhood into his adult life. Information about Shane Koyczan s life was provided by
the site called, The Poetry Foundation . When Shane graduated at Okanagan College, he started to
explore poetry and speaking. He wanted to send a message to the world about the harm social injustice
can cause. He also wanted to inspire and help people who are going through difficult times by sharing
his experiences. As Shane started to write poems, his theme would be on social injustice, love,
happiness, and ideas. He would use the painful childhood memories and incorporate poetic elements
such as metaphor and rhyme. He uses these elements in one of his poems called, To This Day . A
spoken word poem that tells the story of shane s childhood. Three lines read, To this day he is a stick

Analysis Of Sunset Blvd And The Great Gatsby By F....
Growing up, Americans begin to form dreams, or goals, based on where they want to go in life. These
dreams may change over time, or remain the same, but they are always the focus of an American s
life. However, there comes a point in life when you must decide whether to continue chasing your
dream or to face reality and give up and illusions you may have about your life. The plot of two
American based stories, Sunset Blvd , directed by Billy Wilder, and The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, revolve around this conflict of illusion, or dreams, against reality and facing the facts of
life. Both Sunset Blvd and The Great Gatsby ultimately side with illusion and dreaming over reality, a
decision which becomes solidified by the closing scenes in both tales, and the death of a main
character.
Sunset Blvd is not subtle in stating illusion will win out over reality. After all, Norma Desmond, the
aged silent movie star who deludes herself into believing that she will be famous again, kills Joe
Gillis, our involved narrator and voice of reason. But before we analyze the dramatic pool scene,
which dispels any idea that Sunset Blvd sides with reality, we must first look at the characters, the
embodiments of dreams and of reality in this movie. Norma Desmond, who dreams of rising to
greatness again, refuses to believe that time has passed and that she no longer has any fans. Max, her
butler and first husband, feeds into this facade by writing her fan mail, encouraging her

A 43 year old woman lies about her age and falls for a younger man who doesn t know the truth.
STORY COMMENTS
SALAD DAYS is a script that presents with an enjoyable, high concept premise. The idea of an older
woman pretending to be a younger woman and lying to her boyfriend/husband is a great setup for
comedy, conflict, and character development. One can envision the antics and capers the protagonist
will endure to keep her age a secret. Plenty of humor can be generated.
The script has the opportunity to examine themes about ageless love and the age gap between men and
women.
While the concept is solid, the first act requires more development.
The first act sets up the ordinary world of the protagonist, Suzy. She works for a candy company, ...

The conversation on page 29 isn t very compelling: Do you find me desirable?
On page 30, it s not clear why Valentino would ask, What dating site? given they met on a dating site.
The scene in the hospital with the baby works better without the added dialogue. Just the visual of
Suzy holding the baby is needed, vs. Valentino asking her Want a baby too?
Create a separate scene about being evicted versus the same scene with them in the car.
Suzy is sweet. She s definitely good hearted and likable. She s insecure and this makes her vulnerable.
She has inner conflict about her age. She has good potential to be a comedic character, but continue to
develop her comedic side by showing how she covers up the truth about her age. Make sure to identify
how she grows as a character and how her feelings about her age changes.
Bob and Diane are both great sidekicks. They sound and act like natural comedic characters.
Valentino is more likable when he s a bit on edge. Don t make him too nice. There s no tension in that.
To create tension and chemistry there has to be resistance. He becomes way too immature and

CHAPTER 3 : MONEY AND CREDIT
Money is a fascinating subject and full of curiosities. It is important to capture this element for the
students. The history of money and how various forms were used at different times is an interesting
story. At this stage the purpose is to allow students to realise the social situation in which these forms
were used. Modern forms of money are linked to the banking system. This is the central idea of the
first part of the chapter. The present situation in India, where newer forms of money are slowly
spreading with computerisation of the banking system, offers many opportunities to students to
explore on their own. We need not get into a formal discussion of the functions of money but ... Show

What a person desires to sell is exactly what the other wishes to buy. In a barter system where goods
are directly exchanged without the use of money, double coincidence of wants is an essential feature.
In contrast, in an economy where money is in use, money by providing the crucial intermediate step
eliminates the need for double coincidence of wants. It is no longer necessary for the shoe

exchange process, it is called a medium of exchange.
LET S WORK THESE OUT
1. How does the use of money make it easier to exchange things? 2. Can you think of some examples
of goods / services being exchanged or wages being paid through barter?
MODERN FORMS OF MONEY
We have seen that money is something that can act as a medium of exchange in transactions. Before
the introduction of coins, a variety of objects was used as money. For example, since the very early
ages, Indians used grains and cattle as money. Thereafter came the use of metallic coins gold, silver,
copper coins a phase which continued well into the last century. organisation

Observably, the disorder mostly treated and cured by the traditional medicine in the culture. Cultural
bound syndromes can either cause somatic complains, or can be simply behavioral with no connection
to any effect on the body parts. On the other hand, researchers may choose to suggest that cultural
based syndromes represent behaviors that may be acceptable in certain regions (Wilkinson 2000).
Conversely, this disorders maybe highly disregarded in other areas. Ataque De Nervios Ataque De

characterized by crying hysterically, rickety, out of control shouting, physical and verbal violence, and
an extreme high temperature in the chest. Ostensibly, the disorder is said to be as result of attacks by
evil spirits and demonic visitations. In essence, the symptoms are associated with stressful events such
as the death of a loved one, a traumatic experience involving a loved one, divorce, or separation of in
a marriage union. In this regard, this syndrome is only unique among the Hispanics, in other regions it
may be viewed as a normal way of venting out anger. The Diathesis Stress Model In principle, this

that are stresses in life. The model takes consideration of the psychological, biological, and situational

Women in Sports and Sports Broadcasting Essay
Women in Sports and Sports Broadcasting
Before I conducted this media analysis about women in sports and sport broadcasting, I hypothesized
the obvious that more male sports would be in the media, and that there would be more male sports
broadcasters as well. Through my observations I did find that the sports arena and sports broadcasting
sphere are male dominated. However, I also found that although there are not many stories about
women, there has been a steady progression and magazines like Sports Illustrated are becoming bold
enough to highlight women athletes in a magazine that is targeted towards a male audience. Although
women still have a long way to go, they are making some headway into the male dominated sports
arena. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only empowering story I found was a feature about the Notre Dame vs. UCLA women?s soccer
match?and this only contained a picture and a brief summary of the game. Most print media sports
stories are written by men?even the articles that are about women. This shows that males dominate the
journalism field in general. It is funny that men can be experts on women and women in sport. This
might also show that men are interested in women?s sport, realizing that the women?s sport
movement is an important movement and should be given some credit.
On all four of the news broadcasts I watched, men dominated the broadcasting. With the exception of
the Merril Lynch Celebrity Ski Classic Cup, which had two male broadcasters and two female
reporters, the broadcasts were either male dominated (with one woman reporter) or only contained
men. I found that sports such as skiing or running exhibit more gender equality than male dominated
sports like football, baseball or basketball.
Women have come a long way, and are actually beginning to find a more significant place in sports
media. Men are starting to take women more seriously?both on the field and in the news station. I was
ecstatic to read a SI letter to the editor, written by a man that read, ??Maybe we should show a little
respect for the women?s accomplishment? (SI, November 2004)?it gave me hope. Through this
analysis, I gained a stronger appreciation for sports media, and became more optimistic about women

Toyota Value Chain Essay
3. Toyota s supply chain and value chain
Toyota believes that to make high quality vehicles, the quality of each supplier s components plays an
important role. Therefore, the original philosophy of Toyota s supply chain collaboration is to reduce
long term costs by establishing long term partnerships with suppliers instead of traditional ones. Based
on this close long term relationship, we help suppliers to build on Toyota s ever improving thinking
and culture, import Toyota s production system (TPS) to share information and knowledge, learn and
pursue improvement together. Hence, Toyota invests a lot of time, and human resources efforts in the

DC Comicss Influence On Popular Culture
BOOM! POW! ZAP! When these phrases are heard or read, comics are most likely the things that
come to mind. Made popular by television and the selling of comics in general, franchises like DC
Comics have risen to the top in modern day popular culture. Many people, however, are not aware of
how much of a social impact they have had. The DC Comics franchise has been present for a very
long time, and within this period of time has had a great impact on society; evolving with the world
around it, and influencing popular culture with its use of technology inspired by real scientific
advances and its vernacular.

When describing an intellectual, the term Brainiac may be used. What is little known about this term
is its true origins. Brainiac was the super intelligent villain and enemy of Superman in the Action
Comics series. Brainiac was first introduced in 1938, and the term was first recorded in print outside
of the comics in 1982. Another more obvious example of DC Comics influence on colloquial phrases
is the term Kryptonite. As many know, kryptonite is a glowing green mineral from the planet of
Krypton, and is the weakness of Superman. People may use the term when talking about someone s
weakness. Kryptonite is somewhat like the modern day Achilles heel. Apart from influencing common
terminology, technological advancements have influenced tools used by the superheroes in DC
Comics. Wonder Woman was created by psychologist and advocate for women s potentials, William
Moulton Marston. One of Wonder Woman s well known tools is her Lasso of Truth, which compels
anyone who is caught in it to tell the truth. As a psychologist, Marston studied the relation between
emotions and blood pressure. His studies led to the creation of the Systolic Blood Pressure test, which
was used as a component in the modern day

How Did The Indians Culture Affect The Lakota Culture
The Lakota Indians had the sad and unfortunate luck of becoming personally acquainted with the
westward thrust of American development when the Americans attitudes toward Indians had grown
cynical and cruel. This interaction caused the Lakota culture to change a great deal during the
nineteenth century. Horses and guns brought about a dramatic change in the Lakota s culture. They
enabled them to seize and defend their rich hunting grounds, to follow the great migrating herds of
buffalo that shaped their distinctive way of life, and by the middle of the nineteenth century to evolve
into the proud and powerful monarchs of the northern Great Plains (R6). They acquired their first

The Faraway Tree refers to a series of popular children s novels written by Enid Blyton the popular
British author. The first novel in the series was The Enchanted Wood first published in 1939.
However, it is important to note that Faraway Tree and the character Moon Face made their first
appearance in Enid s earlier novel The Yellow Fairy Book.
The narratives are set in an enchanted forest where the Faraway Tree, a magical gigantic tree grows.
The tree is massive with so wide a trunk that small houses can be carved into it and so high that its

A Moral Examination of Roger Kumble s Cruel Intentions ...
I can t remember ever seeing a film with more moral problems and issues than Roger Kumbles Cruel
Intentions. Although the film is intended to be a dark comedy and a teenage version of Dangerous
Liaisons, Cruel Intentions is a mature and often shocking look at a potential realistic situation played
up as a fantasy tale that offers a sickening example of the moral decay present in our society. Morals
seem to change from generation to generation, and as time goes on it seems that at one time what was
disgusting and immoral in our society is now second nature and pure entertainment for today s

The opening scene sets the immoral tone for the entire movie when Sebastian humiliates his therapist

worthy of his talents. At the same time Kathryn is upset that her ex boyfriend dumped her for a ditzy

deflowering virgins. He agrees and of course succeeds but he has more challenging goals in mind.
While turning through 17 Magazine one day, Sebastian came across the young Annette Hargrove

Posttructitalism And Postcolonialism
Although theory may have a reputation for being disconnected from reality, it is grounded in everyday
thinking that helps us plan and understand the actions we take in our everyday social lives (Sears,
2010, pp. 16 17). Accordingly, theories like poststructuralism attempt to explain these aspects of
human society. In this paper, after explaining the origins and major tenets of poststructuralism, I will
argue that a poststructural lens is most conducive to a critical analysis of the causes and effects of
oppression. I will demonstrate this by discussing how discourses produce and maintain power
relations, how the effects of these oppressive relations are channeled through a complex network of
power, and how deconstruction offers pathways for challenging oppression. Poststructuralism
Poststructuralism is derived from the theoretical work of Ferdinand de Saussure, a structural linguist
who argued that language does not simply reflect reality, but constructs the things it describes (Healy,
2005, p. 197). Poststructuralism differs from other postmodernist theories in that it is primarily
concerned with the influence of language on power, knowledge and identity (Healy, 2005, p. 197). In
contrast, postmodernism is moreover concerned with rejecting modernist truths, such as rationality
being the way to progress (Healy, 2005, p. 197). Yet another post theory, postcolonialism is focused on
interrogating and responding to the legacies of European colonization (Healy, 2005, p. 198).

Dogs, Ferrets, and Toads in the Wyoming Plains
This report is about three species that inhabit the Wyoming plains. One of these species is the black
tailed prairie dog which inhabits nearly all of the U.S. and was at one time considered to be
endangered. The second is the black footed ferret which was thought to be extinct until a small colony
of these little predators was discovered on a ranch near Meeteetse Wyoming. The third and final
animal mentioned in this report is the Wyoming toad. These toads are becoming increasingly scarce in
the wild.

(San Francisco Zoo)
The prairie dog is popularly characterized as being a nuisance by farmers and ranchers. This is mainly
due to the fact that they can significantly reduce stands of grass in livestock pastures. Some stockmen
claim that the removal of prairie dogs has had some direct association with the undesirable spread of
brush. This has had detrimental effects on the livestock industry which far outweighs the damage
prairie dogs might do. (San Francisco Zoo)
Mustela nigripes or the black footed ferret is a long yet small predator. The female black footed ferret
ranges in weight from 645 to 850 grams, while the weight of males ranges from 915 to 1125 grams.
These ferrets range in length from 380 to 600mm (head and body). (Mustela nigripes)
The black footed ferret mainly resides in the grasslands of North America just as the black tailed
prairie dog. Each ferret requires about 100 120 acres of space upon which to forage for food. (Mustela

grasslands. A ferret can be found in the abandoned burrow of a prairie dog.
Ferrets are mostly active at night and are very solitary creatures except during the breeding season.

The Problem Of Environmental Protection Essay
Theodore Roosevelt had once said, The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as assets
which it must turn over to the next generation increased, and not impaired in value . These words have
resonated since and have been an example as to why it is our duty as inhabitants of this planet to
provide protection to the ever so fragile environment. But what is Environmental protection exactly?
Well it is one of the most important, and expensive problems businesses and society are facing today.
Why you may ask? Since the industrial age all the countries around the world have been burning an
assortment of fuel to power factories, vehicles, heat homes, and even to cook with and when these
fuels are burned they emit carbon dioxide and various other chemicals which over time add up and
take a very long time to breakdown. As a result they trap heat from the sun in the earth s atmosphere
raising the global temperature and causing a domino effect on the environment. Likewise companies
produce hazardous waste and dump them illegally in waters which kills vast amounts of marine life.
Although laws are in place to protect the planet, inventions are slowly being created to provide
alternative sources of energy and agencies already exist to protect the environment. However it is our
duty as people in a society to act on our own by demanding for our government to show greater
concern for the environment by reforming environmental protection laws with stricter guide lines,

The True Magic Of The World Of Faerie
When one thinks of the world of Faerie, they tend to imagine wondrous and fantastical places,
however while they make occurrences they are rarely the bulk of the tale. In order to contrast the
wonder and goodness there have to be places where it is absent or darkened and perverted. The true
magic of the stories lies in the consolation, the restoring of these desolations, as J.R.R. Tolkien says in
his essay On Fairy Stories, I would venture to assert that all complete fairy stories must have [the
Consolation of the Happy Ending] ( On Fairy 85). Throughout the works of J.R.R. Tolkien,
specifically Leaf by Niggle, Farmer Giles of Ham, and The Hobbit, both desolations, and the
restoration of them are central motifs. Leaf by Niggle is short story, written by Tolkien, about a painter
who is obsessed with completing his enormous painting of a tree, titled Leaf . His main world is his
home and his painting. Before he can finish his painting though he is sent to a Workhouse. The
Workhouse in this story is the desolation. For the majority of his time there he is sick and in the
infirmary. The sickness in a way is another form of desolation. It is a figurative desolation where his
physical health is damaged. At the workhouse poor Niggle got no pleasure out of life which is one of
the clear signs that this is a desolation ( Leaf 109). The desolations work in a contrast to both the
places of good magic and the home that the character, in this case Niggle, is used to.

Essay On Nick Gatsby
In the article The Trouble with Nick: Reading Gatsby Closely, Scott Donaldson argues that Nick
Carraway is a snob (98). Donaldson cites Carraway s intolerance toward those who do not know how
to act, Carraway s conflicting feelings about Gatsby, and Carraway s obsession with social propriety
as manifestations of his snobbery. According to Donaldson, a final revelation of Carraway s aloof
attitude is his static personality, a personality that refuses to learn from the experiences of others.
However, Scott Donaldson s argument is incorrect; Nick Carraway is not a snob. In F. Scott Fitzgerald

Donaldson argues that by insisting on having been invited to Gatsby s party and in attempting to thank
Gatsby for inviting him to a party, Carraway appears rather ridiculous and is overly formal and
pretentious (101). Donaldson explains that Carraway s obsession with social rules reveals his
snobbery. Once again, Donaldson is incorrect; Carraway s actions are signs of respect, not of
ridiculous pretentiousness. Carraway does not attend one of Gatsby s parties until Gatsby formally
invites him. Waiting to attend a party is a sign of respect, not aloofness. By waiting for a formal
invitation to attend Gatsby s party, Carraway reveals his respect for Gatsby s privacy and home.
Additionally, Carraway spends the majority of his first party attempting to find Gatsby and thank him
for his hospitality. Again, Carraway s actions are polite and demonstrate respect for Gatsby. Instead of
rudely ignoring his host as so many of his fellow guests do, Carraway attempts to politely thank
Gatsby for his hospitality, illustrating his respect for Gatsby. Hence, Nick Carraway exhibits
reasonable social decorum and exemplifies respect, not arrogance, in his interactions with

Progressive Rock 1970s
Progressive rock of the 1970s and the paradox of popular serious art
Progressive rock of the 1970s represents a unique moment in the modern music and culture history;
moment which introduced an atypical association of the highly sophisticated and complicated means
of expression, derived mainly from the area of so called serious art, with the wide popularity,
bordering almost with fashion. American Marxist philosopher and social theorist Bill Martin aptly
named this remarkable phenomenon of progressive rock, which was based on the British rock
experimentalism of the second half of the sixties and which became a global artistic trend in the
following decade, using the paradoxical term popular avant garde .
The proposed conference contribution will present the issue of progressive rock genre in a synthetic

The State Song Of Kansas And The Musical Of The American West
Home on the Range, the state song of Kansas and the musical embodiment of the American West.
With its original composition dated in the early 1870 s and continued popularity around campfires
today, this song offers listeners a chance to remember the true West a land where the buffalo roam, and
the deer and the antelope play... and the skies are not cloudy all day. This song describes a beautiful,
open frontier where humanity admires nature and the two live in harmony with one another. An area
full of wild animals and natural landscapes alongside cowboys and farmers. With this song in mind,
people of the past and present may envision wilderness alongside tranquility, a place characterized by
its mutually beneficial relationship with the land. Although many envision the 19th century American
frontier as an open land full of forests, plains, buffalo, cowboys, and Indians, the actual American
frontier was a large industrial system blinded by capital that relied on the exploitation of the natural
world, technology to transform this nature into capital, and trains to link together this vast industrial
frontier. As Dr. Higley wrote the poem that became Home on the Range, the American industrial
frontier simultaneously began to render the roaming buffalo extinct. At the same time, Americans
depleted and exploited other native animals and natural lands, turning nature into capital and paving
the way for the American industrial frontier. The depletion of America s

the length of a fiber.
It increases resiliency, bulk, warmth, elongation, absorbency, and skin comfort. Makes the hand

The Philadelphia Museum Of Art Museum
The Philadelphia Museum of Art was my first time to an art museum, and overall I think it was a good
experience. When I thought of an art museum, I thought it was going to be all paintings. But as it turns
out, that idea was wrong. There were lots of other forms of art there as well. The exhibit that I enjoyed
the most was the International Pop exhibit. But there were also many other exhibits that I enjoyed as
well. Some of those include; European, American, Arms and Armor. All every interesting exhibits that
everyone should see. But those are not all, when going to this museum, every exhibit should be looked
at, all have very interesting things in them. The International pop exhibit was one of my favorite out of
all the exhibits. The International Pop navigates a fast paced world packed with bold and thought
provoking imagery, revealing a vibrant period shaped by social, political, and cultural changes . One
piece of art that I found interesting was Still Life by Tom Wesselmann, American, 1931 2004 . When
looking at this piece if reminds me of different time. This piece reminds me of other art works that I
have seen with the same kinds of things on it as well. Another work of art that I enjoyed was the
20th/21st Century Tribute by Antônio Henrique Amaral , this painting makes the viewer actually stop

The United States And The World War II
The United States, also known as the land of the free and the home of the brave. The United States has
been an icon for freedom and integrity for generations before us and is bound to have written in
various texts around the world. The United States has done its best to do the right thing throughout the
world. It believes itself to be the one to fix the issues that are happening in the world around them as
an act of kindness and justice. In the first World War, when Britain was falling and the German troops
were right on the horizon, American President at the time, chose to involve us in a war that had
originally not been our own. At the time of 1917, President Woodrow Wilson admitted us into the
campaign as a show that we would take a stand against the German Empire. The country did the same
at the year of 1941 in World War II, only after Japan had initiated an attack on American soil. As seen
from these two occurrences, America only then would involve themselves in foreign affairs when it
was necessary to do so and where they were involved themselves. There is also the idea that America
shouldn t be involved in foreign affairs as a whole, due to its moral and economic effect upon the
country. In the idea of the involvement causing economic hassles to the country, those that think this
usually lean towards the liberal standpoint of the country. Those that are more patriotic tend to ignore

correct. It is amazing how Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet written centuries ago can be better
than any movie productions of Romeo and Juliet, which had much better technology to work with.
Although the films appeared more appealing, they left out some major parts. The play had better mood
and plot details which made it much more dramatic and by far a better presentation. This speech will
prove why William Shakespeare s original play should be taught to students rather than any film
versions. One major difference between the play and the movie occurs in the mood. An example of
this is the marriage scene. In the marriage scene of the play, Romeo and Juliet act very serious. The
reader can tell this by the way the two speak. Romeo says that the Holy Words the Friar speaks can
make something without an equal (Act 2, Scene 6) which is a very intelligent thing to say. Whereas, in
the movie they kiss and giggle the entire time. This leads the viewer to believe that film versions
wanted the two to look like fools, that they could not do anything the way it is normally done because
they are children in search of quick love. This is bad because it is not very realistic. In real life, young
adults would take the matter seriously because they know it is a major step in life. Because the play is
not entirely trying to make the two look bad, it is the better production.

Chief In Lord Of The Flies
In groups of people, there are always ones with better leadership qualities than the rest. The stronger
power becomes the greater authority, and the others abide by them. Nevertheless, the strongest leader
isn t always the best. In William Golding s novel, Lord of the Flies, Ralph isn t the strongest person,
yet he displays a better understanding of people, which allows Ralph to lead the boys better than Jack
could. Although Jack and Ralph differentiate in their views, they both share the same passion, to earn
the role of chief. Ralph at first is not very amused from the others for picking him as the chief, yet he
undertakes the role with strong capability to rule. Ralph tries to lead the boys the best he can, but he
appears powerless when he tries to take control. Ralph obtains one strong object, which is the conch
that he can use to congregate the boys, and make important announcements. Ralph finally takes
control when he states All this I meant to say. Now I ve said it. You voted me for chief. Now you do
what I say. (Chap. 5). In the is statement Ralph is reminding the boys that there are still rules and he s

He will use his ability to control people to the highest capability, and possess a burning desire to
overtake Ralph as chief and become the leader of the boys. Jack thinks he should be chief when he
arrogantly says these lines, I ought to be chief, because I m chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing
C sharp. (Chap. 1). Jack believes that he should be the leader because he is so used to having power
before he and the boys landed on the island. Just because Jack can sing a C sharp does not mean that
he should be chief; his talent is insignificant to the situation they are in at the moment. Jack really has
nothing special to him except that he is the superior hunter on the island compared to the others. Jack
is just an obnoxious bully, who torments others for his entertainment and

Ineffective Supervisors
Effective and Ineffective Supervisors I have worked with several supervisors who are effective and
ineffective, throughout my journey of employment. There are three categories where ineffective
supervisors fall short, which are organizational/administrational, technological/cognitive, and
relational/affective (Wilcoxon, Norem, Magnuson, 2005). Three major character flaws an ineffective
counselor consumes are uncaring, arrogance, and chastising employees in public. I have experienced
all of these awful characteristics in supervisors throughout the years. Ineffective supervisors make
employees feel worthless, unfitting, and unqualified. Effective supervisors on the other hand, carry
several noble characteristics, such as supportive, communicative,

The Between Islam And Middle Eastern Countries
America is predominantly known as the melting pot of the world. It has cultivated a variety of
populations in search for a new life. People from a variety of religions, races, and ethnicities live in
this country and call it their home. People whom identify as Muslims are one of the many groups of
people who live, work, and worship here. Since we live in a country where there are multiple religions
and races, it is important that we learn their customs and culture. Muslims most commonly originate
from Africa, and Middle Eastern countries. The religion of this group of people, Islam, developed in
the seventh century. Islam helps put life into perspective and gives hope to the hopeless . The beliefs
of Islam revolve around the Quran, which was written by the prophet Mohammad (Rippin, 2012 p. 5).
As stated by Armstrong (2012), the formation of Islam can be summarized as, a narrative that tells of
the revelations given to the Prophet, the migration to Medina, the battles of the early community, the
return to Mecca and the subsequent conquests under the Rightly Guided caliphs p. 88 . The religion of
Islam that Muslims identify with is fairly new as compared to other religious such as Judaism and
Christianity. The Quran holds three basic teachings; through law, the previous prophets ( Mohammed),
and the final judgment ( Enlightment). Some of this parallels to what Christians refer to as the
Doctrine and Bible of Christ. While many figures and stories found in the Quran

The Interpretation Of The South On Alternate Voices, And...
Franklin opened the interpretation of the South to alternate voices, and gave a firm framework on
establishing the different perspectives relevant for Woodward s experiential not one South thesis. The
points of contention between their interpretations are telling about Southern histories, and their
reputations evidenced the lingering effects of institutionalized racism, as Woodward often gets credit
for opening Southern history to African American narratives. However, it was Franklin that did it first
and allowed for agency, while Woodward s narratives most featured black victimization/victimhood.
Despite some differences in interpretation, Franklin and Woodward would become two of the most
influential historians of the twentieth century. Only recently does it seems more women, more
minorities, more identities are writing southern history from their unique viewpoints and
interpretations. All of them aided by the path laid by Franklin. His influence is clear in the works of
Tera Hunter, Mary Hoffschwelle, Karen Cox, Pippa Holloway, and all of the most recent histories of
the South.Franklin s essays mirrored role of African American in Southern historiography. Starting
out, African Americans were given little or no attention at all, then came outright racist histories, then
blacks as subjects of white actions/ideologies, and finally, blacks as full historical actors, controlling
their own lives, demonstrating their own agency, controlling their own narratives.

A Speech On Baseball
Hello this is an speech about an experience of mine that has taught me and will surely help you to
never give up . All my 13 year of living i have played a sport that is known as baseball, this sport has
truly shaped me into what i am today. I ve played baseball since t ball(which is the first possible level
of baseball) and I ve come to love it. My favorite and oldest coach would have to be coach Rimerman,
you may know his son Alexander Rimerman. I ve played with Coach Rimerman my five first years of
baseball and he was a model coach, the kind of coach that would mold your team into a genuine
family that knew how to work and act together.
The first game we lost wasn t until the second season we were the best team and we knew after we lost

I had a major problem there were kids that were in my grade playing i higher level than me and that
meant they were getting better then me. I was so pist i didn t know what to do It s not like I could just
change my age. The kids on the higher lvl than me played on the big field or your standard 350 above
field but I stilled played 200 above don t get me wrong I was hitting dinger in fact I hit more
homeruns than anyone last year but i know that if those kids are playing above me what would that
make me I d rather be the worst of the best then the best of the worst. Being the best doesn t make you
a better player if anything it just made me more cocky. But I knew once school tryouts hit I had no
chance we played on the bigger field I ve never played their how am I supposed to just get used to it. I
didn t bomb the tryout but I didn t make it and I knew I didn t deserve to either. So after that I told
myself and my dad that I d quit. I was staunce to this i was done. I didn t care what coach Rimerman
had said nor did I cared what I was trying to say. But one day in Spring A nice pal of mine named Jake
Smidtt had tried to get me tryout for Mount LAurel Travel at first I didn t know but in the end I

Beowulf as Epic
What makes an epic? Is Beowulf an epic?    What is an epic poem, and how does it differ from
other kinds of poetry or storytelling? How have epic poems traditionally been transmitted from
generation to generation? How do tellers remember these long and complicated stories? According to
Robert Harris s Glossary of Literary Terms, he defines an epic as the following: Epic. An extended
narrative poem recounting actions, travels, adventures, and heroic episodes and written in a high style
(with ennobled diction, for example). It may be written in hexameter verse, especially dactylic
hexameter, and it may have twelve books or twenty four books. Characteristics of the classical epic
include these:        The main character or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 4. Ontological Argument For The Existence Of God Throughout Proslogion Anselm defends his argument that God is which nothing greater can be thought by providing key elements. Anselm proposes that one cannot imagine a god that is greater, and even non believers have a conception of the western god. Anselm asserts that since everyone has an understanding of god in their mind, then god exist in reality. This paper will evaluate some of the main key elements that Anselm uses to prove that the ontological argument is correct in Proslogion. I contend that Anselm does not exhibit proper terminology and provides vague statements and therefore his argument that God is which nothing greater can be thought is invalid. Words can carry different meanings depending on the context that it is presented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anselm argues that god is merciful and impassible at the same time. Those two definitions are the complete opposite of each other. Merciful can mean showing compassion for a person and being sympathetic towards a person who has done wrong. Impassible can mean incapable of feeling sympathy for an individual who has done wrong. Anselm believes that god is both, but how is that possible for a person to be compassionate and not compassionate. This statement is contradictory and does not make logical sense because a person cannot be compassionate and not compassionate. If god is both compassionate and non compassionate then he is indecisive because he cannot decide whether he actually wants to punish an individual. When Anselm stated that god was both compassionate and not compassionate he realized that it did not make sense because he even questions god. Anselm combines words that are contradictory to each other and creates a confusing statement. This statement is difficult to understand and creates a flaw in his ontological ... The Riddle os the Fourth Gospel by Poul Anderson Anderson writes The Riddles of the Fourth Gospel to provide students, of any level, with an overview and evaluation of the varying approaches to understanding the Fourth Gospel, and ultimately to serve as a guide through the controversy and riddles encountered in the Fourth Gospel. Anderson addresses the work of the international community of Johannine scholars and introduces a new set of paradigms. The introduction immediately captivates those who have yet to wade in the perplexities of the Fourth Gospel by bombarding the reader with the many puzzlements of the Fourth Gospel. Anderson tackles the issue in three parts. Part one introduces the most perplexing of the Johannine riddles. After an outline of the Gospel of John, Anderson presents the threefold riddles: theological, historical, and literary. Anderson considers familiarity with the points of contention a requisite for engaging, addressing, and interpreting them. Chapter one exposes the central features of the Fourth Gospel; which effectively reveals the dissimilarities between John and the Synoptic Gospels. Chapter two uncovers the theological riddles of the Fourth Gospel, both incidental and highly significant. For the twelve theological riddles presented in chapter 2, Anderson conveys the work of Johannine scholarship as well as presents his own incisive exegesis. Anderson does likewise in his presentation of the historical and literary riddles in chapters 3 and 4. The first part successfully establishes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Analysis Of Sunset Blvd And The Great Gatsby By F.... Growing up, Americans begin to form dreams, or goals, based on where they want to go in life. These dreams may change over time, or remain the same, but they are always the focus of an American s life. However, there comes a point in life when you must decide whether to continue chasing your dream or to face reality and give up and illusions you may have about your life. The plot of two American based stories, Sunset Blvd , directed by Billy Wilder, and The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, revolve around this conflict of illusion, or dreams, against reality and facing the facts of life. Both Sunset Blvd and The Great Gatsby ultimately side with illusion and dreaming over reality, a decision which becomes solidified by the closing scenes in both tales, and the death of a main character. Sunset Blvd is not subtle in stating illusion will win out over reality. After all, Norma Desmond, the aged silent movie star who deludes herself into believing that she will be famous again, kills Joe Gillis, our involved narrator and voice of reason. But before we analyze the dramatic pool scene, which dispels any idea that Sunset Blvd sides with reality, we must first look at the characters, the embodiments of dreams and of reality in this movie. However, I also found that although there are not many stories about women, there has been a steady progression and magazines like Sports Illustrated are becoming bold enough to highlight women athletes in a magazine that is targeted towards a male audience. The only empowering story I found was a feature about the Notre Dame vs. UCLA women?s soccer match?and this only contained a picture and a brief summary of the game. Most print media sports stories are written by men?even the articles that are about women. This shows that males dominate the journalism field in general. It is funny that men can be experts on women and women in sport. This might also show that men are interested in women?s sport, realizing that the women?s sport movement is an important movement and should be given some credit. On all four of the news broadcasts I watched, men dominated the broadcasting. With the exception of the Merril Lynch Celebrity Ski Classic Cup, which had two male broadcasters and two female reporters, the broadcasts were either male dominated (with one woman reporter) or only contained men. I found that sports such as skiing or running exhibit more gender equality than male dominated sports like football, baseball or basketball. Women have come a long way, and are actually beginning to find a more significant place in sports media. Men are starting to take women more seriously?both on the field and in the news station. I was ecstatic to read a SI letter to the editor, written by a man that read, ??Maybe we should show a little respect for the women?s accomplishment? (SI, November 2004)?it gave me hope. • 28. Posttructitalism And Postcolonialism Although theory may have a reputation for being disconnected from reality, it is grounded in everyday thinking that helps us plan and understand the actions we take in our everyday social lives (Sears, 2010, pp. 16 17). Accordingly, theories like poststructuralism attempt to explain these aspects of human society. In this paper, after explaining the origins and major tenets of poststructuralism, I will argue that a poststructural lens is most conducive to a critical analysis of the causes and effects of oppression. I will demonstrate this by discussing how discourses produce and maintain power relations, how the effects of these oppressive relations are channeled through a complex network of power, and how deconstruction offers pathways for challenging oppression. Poststructuralism Poststructuralism is derived from the theoretical work of Ferdinand de Saussure, a structural linguist who argued that language does not simply reflect reality, but constructs the things it describes (Healy, 2005, p. 197). Poststructuralism differs from other postmodernist theories in that it is primarily concerned with the influence of language on power, knowledge and identity (Healy, 2005, p. 197). In contrast, postmodernism is moreover concerned with rejecting modernist truths, such as rationality being the way to progress (Healy, 2005, p. 197). Yet another post theory, postcolonialism is focused on interrogating and responding to the legacies of European colonization (Healy, 2005, p. 198). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But what is Environmental protection exactly? Well it is one of the most important, and expensive problems businesses and society are facing today. Why you may ask? Since the industrial age all the countries around the world have been burning an assortment of fuel to power factories, vehicles, heat homes, and even to cook with and when these fuels are burned they emit carbon dioxide and various other chemicals which over time add up and take a very long time to breakdown. As a result they trap heat from the sun in the earth s atmosphere raising the global temperature and causing a domino effect on the environment. Likewise companies produce hazardous waste and dump them illegally in waters which kills vast amounts of marine life. Although laws are in place to protect the planet, inventions are slowly being created to provide alternative sources of energy and agencies already exist to protect the environment. The true magic of the stories lies in the consolation, the restoring of these desolations, as J.R.R. Leaf by Niggle is short story, written by Tolkien, about a painter who is obsessed with completing his enormous painting of a tree, titled Leaf . His main world is his home and his painting. Before he can finish his painting though he is sent to a Workhouse. The Workhouse in this story is the desolation. For the majority of his time there he is sick and in the infirmary. As seen from these two occurrences, America only then would involve themselves in foreign affairs when it was necessary to do so and where they were involved themselves. There is also the idea that America shouldn t be involved in foreign affairs as a whole, due to its moral and economic effect upon the country. In the idea of the involvement causing economic hassles to the country, those that think this usually lean towards the liberal standpoint of the country. Those that are more patriotic tend to ignore the economic issues that come from United States involvement in foreign affairs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Romeo Juliet Comparison Romeo and Juliet Often people say that William Shakespeare was and still is a legend. They are correct. It is amazing how Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet written centuries ago can be better than any movie productions of Romeo and Juliet, which had much better technology to work with. Although the films appeared more appealing, they left out some major parts. The play had better mood and plot details which made it much more dramatic and by far a better presentation. This speech will prove why William Shakespeare s original play should be taught to students rather than any film versions. One major difference between the play and the movie occurs in the mood. An example of this is the marriage scene. In the marriage scene of the play, Romeo and Juliet act very serious. The reader can tell this by the way the two speak. Romeo says that the Holy Words the Friar speaks can make something without an equal (Act 2, Scene 6) which is a very intelligent thing to say. Whereas, in the movie they kiss and giggle the entire time. This leads the viewer to believe that film versions wanted the two to look like fools, that they could not do anything the way it is normally done because they are children in search of quick love. This is bad because it is not very realistic. In real life, young adults would take the matter seriously because they know it is a major step in life. Because the play is not entirely trying to make the two look bad, it is the better production. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Chief In Lord Of The Flies In groups of people, there are always ones with better leadership qualities than the rest. The stronger power becomes the greater authority, and the others abide by them. Nevertheless, the strongest leader isn t always the best. In William Golding s novel, Lord of the Flies, Ralph isn t the strongest person, yet he displays a better understanding of people, which allows Ralph to lead the boys better than Jack could. Although Jack and Ralph differentiate in their views, they both share the same passion, to earn the role of chief. Ralph at first is not very amused from the others for picking him as the chief, yet he undertakes the role with strong capability to rule. Ralph tries to lead the boys the best he can, but he appears powerless when he tries to take control. Ralph obtains one strong object, which is the conch that he can use to congregate the boys, and make important announcements. Ralph finally takes control when he states All this I meant to say. Now I ve said it. You voted me for chief. Now you do what I say. (Chap. 5). In the is statement Ralph is reminding the boys that there are still rules and he s still has the ... Jack thinks he should be chief when he arrogantly says these lines, I ought to be chief, because I m chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing C sharp. (Chap. 1). Jack believes that he should be the leader because he is so used to having power before he and the boys landed on the island. Just because Jack can sing a C sharp does not mean that he should be chief; his talent is insignificant to the situation they are in at the moment. Jack really has nothing special to him except that he is the superior hunter on the island compared to the others. Jack is just an obnoxious bully, who torments others for his entertainment and ... • 43. Ineffective Supervisors Effective and Ineffective Supervisors I have worked with several supervisors who are effective and ineffective, throughout my journey of employment. There are three categories where ineffective supervisors fall short, which are organizational/administrational, technological/cognitive, and relational/affective (Wilcoxon, Norem, Magnuson, 2005). Three major character flaws an ineffective counselor consumes are uncaring, arrogance, and chastising employees in public. I have experienced all of these awful characteristics in supervisors throughout the years. Ineffective supervisors make employees feel worthless, unfitting, and unqualified. Effective supervisors on the other hand, carry several noble characteristics, such as supportive, communicative, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Between Islam And Middle Eastern Countries America is predominantly known as the melting pot of the world. It has cultivated a variety of populations in search for a new life. People from a variety of religions, races, and ethnicities live in this country and call it their home. People whom identify as Muslims are one of the many groups of people who live, work, and worship here. Since we live in a country where there are multiple religions and races, it is important that we learn their customs and culture. Muslims most commonly originate from Africa, and Middle Eastern countries. The religion of this group of people, Islam, developed in the seventh century. Islam helps put life into perspective and gives hope to the hopeless . The beliefs of Islam revolve around the Quran, which was written by the prophet Mohammad (Rippin, 2012 p. 5). As stated by Armstrong (2012), the formation of Islam can be summarized as, a narrative that tells of the revelations given to the Prophet, the migration to Medina, the battles of the early community, the return to Mecca and the subsequent conquests under the Rightly Guided caliphs p. 88 . The religion of Islam that Muslims identify with is fairly new as compared to other religious such as Judaism and Christianity. The Quran holds three basic teachings; through law, the previous prophets ( Mohammed), and the final judgment ( Enlightment). Some of this parallels to what Christians refer to as the Doctrine and Bible of Christ. While many figures and stories found in the Quran ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Interpretation Of The South On Alternate Voices, And... Franklin opened the interpretation of the South to alternate voices, and gave a firm framework on establishing the different perspectives relevant for Woodward s experiential not one South thesis. The points of contention between their interpretations are telling about Southern histories, and their reputations evidenced the lingering effects of institutionalized racism, as Woodward often gets credit for opening Southern history to African American narratives. However, it was Franklin that did it first and allowed for agency, while Woodward s narratives most featured black victimization/victimhood. Despite some differences in interpretation, Franklin and Woodward would become two of the most influential historians of the twentieth century. Only recently does it seems more women, more minorities, more identities are writing southern history from their unique viewpoints and interpretations. All of them aided by the path laid by Franklin. His influence is clear in the works of Tera Hunter, Mary Hoffschwelle, Karen Cox, Pippa Holloway, and all of the most recent histories of the South.Franklin s essays mirrored role of African American in Southern historiography. Starting out, African Americans were given little or no attention at all, then came outright racist histories, then blacks as subjects of white actions/ideologies, and finally, blacks as full historical actors, controlling their own lives, demonstrating their own agency, controlling their own narratives. All my 13 year of living i have played a sport that is known as baseball, this sport has truly shaped me into what i am today.
