The Effects Of Sexual Harassment On Female Officers
Imagine being a female officer working in a male dominated environment where the male officers tell
sexually explicit jokes in the hallway. Supervisors play a pivotal role in managing a productive
diversified workplace (Miller More, 2011). All employees should feel at ease while in their work
environment (Miller More, 2011). Officers tend to get comfortable in how the department operates
and expect things to continue to function in the same way. Supervisors must counteract harmful or
undesirable actions or behaviors immediately when an employee becomes difficult to work with or
display unsuitable behavior, which can impair the effectiveness of the officer (Miller More, 2011).
Supervisors deal with a variety of employee behavior; however, supervisors must be fair and
competent when evaluating employees behavior (Miller More, 2011). Change is inevitable; however,
it is necessary to the growth of a law enforcement agency (Miller More, 2011).
Sexual harassment is one of the reasons why the turnover rate for female officers is high (Miller More,
2011). Sexual harassment is any unwelcome sexual advance or conduct on the job that creates an
intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment. Any conduct of a sexual nature that makes an
employee uncomfortable has the potential to be sexual harassment (NOLO, 2014, para. 4). The Civil
Rights Act of 1964 prohibits sexual harassment (Miller More, 2011). If management takes immediate
and effective steps to

Employees at BCG are automatically upgraded to gold status at key partner airlines. This gold status

will reimburse employees for any education they may proceed to get while employed. Also BCG gives
its employees discounts to gym memberships, cell phone services, and car insurance. Boston
Consulting Group is well liked by its employees for all these reason. Boston Consulting Group does
more then concentrate on the bottom line profit, they take all their employees needs into consideration.
BCG seems like a great company to work for that gives every employee at every level a say so in the
company s decisions and allows all employees to be themselves with great opportunities for future
growth. Through all the benefits and perks they offer to their employees, they have employees that
love their job and want to grow with the company. Even though they allow such flexible schedules
allowing days off, it seems employees don t take advantage of it. If more companies were like Boston
Consulting Group, more employees would be eager to go to work, which then affects the bonds
created with customers, ending with the opportunity for more profit. Currently I am employed by Best

Show How Discipline and Obedience Are Linked to the...
In order to explain the relationship between discipline and obedience from a Montessori perspective, it
would be useful define and compare the more common explanations of these terms with the
interpretations of Maria Montessori. The development of the child within the Montessori setting and
in particular the maturational development of discipline, obedience and the will shall then be
discussed. In so doing, a very close and almost symbiotic relationship between all three will become
apparent.
Discipline is commonly thought of as something that is done to a child in order to achieve obedience.
It is seen as a form of control that implies a denial of freedom. According to oxforddictionaries.com,
the definition of discipline is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Montessori called this the first stage of obedience (Montessori, 2007a).
At around the age of 2 ½ to 3 however, consciousness emerges and all that has been stored up in the
Mneme, together with new information, begins to come into the conscious mind, transforming into
memory and reason. The child has is now entering the second phase of the Absorbent Mind, known as
the Social Embryonic stage (Montessori, 2007a). Montessori (1963) describes the child as unbalanced
and having certain deviations (lack of control or discipline resulting in possible aggression or
passivity). Importantly, with respect to discipline and obedience, it is when the horme and
egocentricity begin to wane and the child becomes more aware of others and their needs. It is at this
stage that the child enters the Nursery.
Through her observations, Montessori held that a child will pass through several sensitive periods
during the Absorbent Mind, where he/she has an intrinsic sensibility to acquiring particular skills
beneficial to his/her development (Montessori, 2007a). He/she is drawn to particular activities that
will match the particular sensitivity such as a sensitivity to order or small objects for example. It is for
these reasons that Montessori saw the need to develop an environment that would enable every
possibility for the child to fulfill all of these needs and that failure to do so could result in physical,
social and mental instability. The more the young are placed in

Andy Campbell s Tomato Soup Rhetorical Analysis
Andy Warhol created a silkscreen canvas in 1964 of a Campbell s condensed tomato soup can. He
uses the same fonts, colors, and sizes that have caught people s eyes when they shop. I, myself, have
never tried Campbell s tomato soup. Every time we have any type of tomato soup, my mom makes it
from diced tomatoes and adds her own ingredients. Campbell s tomato soup uses an original logo on
every can so when people see it they know what it is. Think of the McDonald s logo. Every time you
see a yellow M in a red background you think of McDonalds. Campbell s logo is a man sitting with,
from my perspective, food around him. You can also see at the bottom of most cans, what looks like
the New Orleans sign. It is like a fleer delit. To me, this is

What Is The Purpose Of The Odyssey
Provide significant details about the author (120 1): Homer
Homer, the author of The Odyssey , was believed to be blind. ( Homer )
Homer s writings were used to teach Greek students how to read in school (Beers 120).
Style5 conventions (121) The 5 conventions Homer uses in his writing are invocation
(invoking action), in medias res (middle of action), epic similes (comparing heroic events to events in
everyday life), metrical structure (6 syllables per line so a passage will be easier for a speaker to
memorize), and stock epithets (descriptive adjective) (Beers 121).
Philosophies Greeks believed in many gods, and due to Homer s blindness, many people believed that
Homer had godlike abilities. This is because it was said by philosophers that after losing one sense
other abilities became stronger, which meant that Homer s other senses had become godlike (Beers
120). Every time the Greeks found something that they didn t understand they created a God to
explain the phenomenon (Massa). The main gods that appear in The Odyssey are Zeus, the god of the
Sky, who saves Odysseus multiple times, Poseidon, the god of the ocean, who holds resentment
toward Odysseus, Hades, the god of the Underworld, Athena, the goddess of wisdom, justice, war,
civilization, and peace, and Hermes, the god of mischief, who saves Odysseus many times but fools
around with him first. (Massa).
Criticism I believe that Homer was criticized for the possible inaccuracy in his stories. Homer was

A Comparison Of Willy Loman And The Silence Of The Lambs
The phrase, I m having an old friend for dinner, when read now, may seem like a completely innocent
phrase; nevertheless, when one realizes this seemingly innocent phrase is actually a quote from
Hannibal Lecter, a cannibal from the movie The Silence of the Lambs, one s opinion of this may
change. This phrase can be classified as a double entendre, or a figure of speech which can be
interpreted in two different ways. Another example of a double entendre is the title of Arthur Miller s
play, Death of a Salesman, because not only does a salesman literally die, but so does the false dream
of becoming one. Within this play lies a spiral of insecurity and arguments between father and son
who both struggle with their self images. In a nutshell, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As shown, because of Willy s struggles and lack of self esteem, he affects the people most important
to him, and although they eventually empathize for him and even forgive him, he still fails to see the
true meaning behind their actions and inevitably takes his own life. All of this could have been
resolved if Willy would have listened to Biff s advice to internalize the meaning of himself instead of
searching for validation from others, and to forgive himself for his past failures; even Biff himself
says, He had the wrong dreams. All, all wrong... He never knew who he was. After Biff discovers this
theme, a double meaning of this play is revealed: not only does Willy s suicide represent the death of a
salesman, but Biff s epiphany unearths the metaphorical death of a salesman, or rather, the hollow
dream of becoming something

Essay on If We Must Die by Claude McKay
If We Must Die by Claude McKay Clearly provocative and even chilling, If We Must Die by Claude
McKay stirs deep and powerful emotions in any who reads it. A poem inspired by violent race riots, it
serves as a motivating anthem representative of an entire culture. Graphic and full of vengeance this
poem is demanding action, not telling a story. McKay utilizes imagery to its fullest extent creating an
end result which any man or woman, black or white, who has ever felt the hard and hateful hand of
oppression can relate to. Written in the form of a Shakespearean sonnet, one could hardly mistake it
for anything so pleasant. Sonnets being traditionally used for beautiful, appealing topics, already there
is contradiction between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dogs rarely die a shameful death, but instead fight to the finish. Using this dichotomy he further
illustrates the severance of and between the hunter and the hunted. McKay emphasizes within the first
three lines that the conflict at hand is not merely a struggle then, but a fierce hunt in which there is no
mercy and only one survivor. Again in the fifth line he requests that If we must die, O let us nobly
die,/ So that our precious blood may not be shed/ In vain (5 7). He reasons that if there is to be
bloodshed regardless, then the blood ought not to be shed without a fight. They should not lose their
precious blood without any significance or effect, and not in an irreverent manner. If they succeed in
avoidance of such vain, then McKay claims that even the monsters we defy/ Shall be constrained to
honor us through dead! (7 8) McKay knows that upon a proud death, even those they fought will be
compelled to acknowledge their bravery and pride. By referring to the enemy as monsters, McKay
makes it increasingly difficult to not follow him. There is no pity or compromising with monsters and
every man, woman, and child has his or her own image of a monster. Given this open description they
are then free to envision the monster as they see and feel it. They can construct it based on their own
fears. In line nine McKay recognizes the root of their problem as lack of unity. He is aware of the
constant struggles

The Aftermath Of Natural Disasters After Hurricane Katrina
The aftermath of natural disasters are heartbreaking as well as devastating People have lost their
homes, belonging, and sadly their loved ones. That s why meteorologists stay on the clock when
storms start to develop. They try to warn the public about what s stirring up in the gulf and get them
out before it too late. When the general public receives photos of damage that has been done it s
heartsick. What s even worse when citizens of the U. S. see these pictures is that majority of them are
of children that are hurt and are sitting on top of demolished homes and looking for their parents. Even
after disaster is over some children and teens are shook or even traumatized. In the Article it says After
Hurricane Katrina, a group of researchers led by Joy Osofsky of the Louisiana State University ( LSU
) Health Sciences Center also found that, children s worries about school were significantly associated
with long term distress. Trauma not only sometimes triggered test anxiety, but interventions that
addressed test anxiety improved students post traumatic stress symptoms, too . ( Sparks 2 ). In the
article it says Above all, this body of research finds that the full effects of disasters on children are far
deeper and longer lasting than expected. (Sparks After Hurricane Katrina no one thought the city
would function the way it use to. If the technology meteorologist use today was advance back then

Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults
2.1, Explain the skills needed to communicate with children and young people.
To be able to effectively communicate with children and young people you must first understand how
to speak appropriately for the Childs age level, cognitive level or language ability. For example, while
speaking to a child which has English as an Additional Language, you would need to speak slower,
with lots more annunciation and facial expression. To show them that they have my full attention I
would repeat what they had said, correcting where necessary but giving a great deal of praise.
When children are very young, always bring yourself down to their level. Sit on the ground next to
them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To immediately put the person at their ease I would first make a comment which is completely
different to what the topic of our conversation needs to be. For example, how much I like their shoes,
how did they do at football over the weekend or what good films have they watched recently. Once I
believe I have asked enough questions that are personal to them and can see that they are starting to
open up to me I would gradually start bringing up what the main purpose of our chat was meant to be.
This could be anything from, what has caused arguments to be arising lately with certain individuals
or why they are starting to struggle with certain activities. However, they must always understand that
your are their teaching assistant and not their buddy or parent.
Communication differences There are many different factors to take into consideration when
communicating with children or young adults. Their age, ie a 4 yr old, will not have heard as many
words as an 11 yr old, so the vocabulary has to be kept simpler. Children with learning disabilities,
such as ADD, ADHD or ASD have to have instructions given to them one at a time, as their brains
cannot compute multiple instructions. They may need to be repeated

Assault In Civil Argument Today
Despite the fact that the term assault has been changed endless times is still in civil argument today. It
is by and large characterized as to constrain somebody to take part in sex by utilizing dangers or
savagery. All the more particularly and lawfully the meaning of assault can be characterized as (Legal
word reference) the commission of unlawful sex or unlawful sexual interruption. Not just is it s
definition constantly changing yet it likewise shifts from state to state. This obviously causes a few
issues in the hazy areas in the matter of what constitutes as assault. Most states have chosen to name
assault as rape and rape is part up into classes known as degrees.
Characterized by the California reformatory code (PC) 261 assault is a demonstration of sex finished

Eastern Woodland Indians
Europeans often thought Indians on one hand were vicious cannibals, with no social organization, but
on the other hand pictured an Indian society as being orderly, advanced, and civilized. There are nine
famous paintings I had to analyze. The pictures showed Indians were civilized people. Life among the
Eastern Woodland Indians was organized, together, and civilized in their own way. The economy for
the Woodland Indians was organized and everyone had a job. They were able to adapt to their
surroundings. For their religion they believed that every animal or living thing has a soul. So they

They were very developed. In photograph two we see the Indians working on a canoe or tearing down
a tree, but they don t have axes, they only have fire. So Indians couldn t have been backwards or
undeveloped , if they adapted without axes. To be civilized is to be able to adapt and to be able to
work together as one. Europeans perceive Indians as unmannered and disgusting. Evidence is in
photograph nine, when they are eating off the ground and their food is laying in the dirt. It might
impact two people, because one might be an Indian or have Indian blood, and the other will think of
that one a lowly or think of that person in a bad way. Indians perceived Europeans as a problem.
Indians didn t like their government, they liked their way and their chief. Indians didn t like the
Europeans culture. The Indians thought of it as bad. The Indians didn t like the Europeans religion
either. The Europeans didn t, think all living things had a soul and they didn t give thanks to their first

The Importance Of Friendship In My Life
When I was younger, I used to think that all people were good and every friendship that lasted longer
than three months was forever. Now, I know that people will not always be what they seem, I might
get hurt from friendships, and I have to learn to let go sometimes. I believe in standing up for yourself
and your thoughts, even when it s the harder thing to do. I stand for not letting a toxic relationship
define you. This is how I believe in self worth. When I started my freshman year, I walked in with
some of the closest friends I d ever had. The four of us, my best gal pal, Anna, her boyfriend, Clay,
and my best guy friend, Aaron. We did everything together, but it was Aaron and I that grew to be best
friends over that year. When it comes to friendships I think I can become attached really easily. I am
always the first person to say I love you . It s just in my nature to be attached to people because I don t
want to change. We were constantly together, and they were the closest friendships and relationships
that I might ever have. Nothing could come between us, until something did. By Christmas Eve I was
seeing a boy, and on New Year s finally had my first kiss. They were happy for me, but as the month
of January rolled by I noticed a change in them. It was hard for them to trust my new hockey playing
boyfriend. Aaron was scared he would hit me or hurt me because my boyfriend got very jealous, very
easily, and it was mostly about my relationship with Aaron.

Investigating The Total Heat Energy Released
Data Analysis
In order to determine the total heat energy released by each of the fuel sources, a graph will need to be
constructed to demonstrate the change in the temperature of water over the entire duration of the
experiment. From this graph, a linear trendline will be created for the last 3 data points where the
water was allowed to cool, which can be extrapolated backwards to determine the total decrease in the
temperature of the water due to a loss of energy to the surrounding environment during the
combustion of the fuel. The difference between the highest and lowest temperature values will then be
used to calculate the total change in the temperature of water during the combustion of the fuels.

The Execution of Death Penalty
The Death Penalty Introduction As of 2010, thirty four States have some form of Death Penalty, while
twelve States plus the District of Columbia have no Death Penalty. The number of Death Penalty
executions from 1977 2010 by color coded States follows: (Death Penalty Information Center, 2012).
The basic dispute involving the Death Penalty is whether or not it should be abolished. This dispute
has raged for decades in the United States and people on both sides of the debate appear to be equally
passionate. Anti Death Penalty individuals propose numerous arguments for banning the Death
Penalty; this paper will address three of them: some innocent people are sentenced to death; the Death
Penalty is administered arbitrarily; and the Death Penalty is not a deterrent. After presenting those
three anti Death Penalty arguments, the pro Death Penalty responses will be examined. Anti Death
Penalty Arguments One argument against the Death Penalty is that innocent people are wrongfully
convicted and sentenced to death. While the Innocence Project, associated with the Benjamin N.
Cardozo School of Law, was not established to abolish the Death Penalty, many of its findings support
the innocent convict argument. The Innocence Project maintains that people have been wrongfully
convicted due to: eyewitness misidentification; invalidated or improper forensics; false

someone or routine work and some others can accept that! They don t prefer to take a risk of starting
their own businesses. Opposers suggest that you ll actually consider the beginning of your startup to a
greater extent a side interest than a living, and you ll be less inspired to sustain it to realization. Instead
of being inspired by the swim or sink nature of small size business, your well being net will keep you
from completely rationally putting resources into your undertaking. Taking work at your beginning
can likewise negatively affect your execution at your full time job. In the case that you find yourself
occupied with new thoughts or staying up throughout the night to finish some tasks at some feature of
the business, you won t have the capacity to give your full thoughtfulness regarding your occupation.
In the end, your bosses will see, and you could end up losing your well being net out and out.
Alternately, on the off chance that you can juggle both enterprise and a full time work, your family
and individual lives might endure. All things considered, if your just time to deal with your side
business is on weeknights and weekends, when will you invest energy with loved ones? It s a
noteworthy weight to tackle both without a moment s delay. Numerous individuals

Consumer nowadays are quite concern on the quality of the products purchased. They are more
willing to pay for a premium in order to obtain a superior quality of a product rather than spend less
money to get a low quality of product. Thus, quality has become an important factor in determining
what car or vehicle to purchase among consumers. Previous research has suggested that consumers are
keeping their cars for longer, so it is even more vital that their car be well built and relatively
inexpensive to maintain. Definitely, imported car is better as compared to local car especially in term
of quality. This is because imported cars were more reliable and cheaper to maintain than domestic
car. This helps consumers to save their considerable money at import car services such as for
maintenance and repair over the life of the car. Even the price of domestic car is cheaper than
imported car, but it require consumers to spend a lot for maintenance and repair in the future. As a
smart consumer, it is essential to consider not only the initial cost, but also the overall cost of
ownership for the life of the vehicle.
Moreover, there are three types of importers. First, many importers nowadays look for any product

Safe Drinking Water In Bangladesh Essay
Safe drinking water is essential for healthy life, and United Nations (UN) General Assembly declared
safe and clean drinking water as a human right essential to the full enjoyment of life [1]. Moreover,
the importance of water, sanitation and hygiene for health and development has been reflected in the
outcomes of a series of international policy forums [1]. These have also included health and water
oriented conferences, but most importantly in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) adopted by
the General Assembly of the UN in 2000. The UN General Assembly declared the period from 2005 to
2015 as the International Decade for Action, Water for Life [1]. Access to safe drinking water is
important as a health and development issue at national, regional and local levels. Bangladesh, a
developing country from South Asian (SA) region also takes several steps for ensuring sanitation and
safe drinking water facilities among the people. As a result, Bangladesh has made great progress in
this sector. The government also claimed that it has achieved the MDG indicator of ensuring safe
drinking water for 85% people of the country. According to different demographic and health surveys,
the percentage of using improved sources of drinking water is about 98% (reported in the latest two
surveys Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) 2012 13 and Bangladesh Demographic and Health
Survey (BDHS) 2014) [2,3]. But, this achievement statistics are overlooking the shortcomings. The

Questions On Total Maximum Daily Load
4.0 TMDL ALLOCATION
Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) allocation aims to develop the framework to decrease bacteria
loads to ensure that water quality standards are met and establish a TMDL equation for each impaired
segment. The TMDL, the maximum amount of a pollutant that can be assimilated by a waterbody and
still achieve the water quality standard, is the sum of the individual waste load allocations (WLAs) for
point sources, load allocations (LAs) for both nonpoint sources and natural background, and a margin
of safety (MOS). This definition is denoted by the following equation:
TMDL = Σ WLAs + Σ LAs + MOS
Development of a TMDL is an iterative process that involves modeling and generation of allocation
scenarios that meet the water quality criteria. The calibrated HSPF model was used to develop various
pollutant reduction scenarios and the final TMDL allocation. Each scenario consists of a combination
of load reductions from direct deposition and/or land based bacteria sources. The modeled scenarios
provide an insight to the significance of different bacteria sources in each TMDL watershed and
TMDL allocation possibilities. The TMDLs were developed based on the Virginia State standard for
E. coli. The DEQ freshwater primary contact recreational use E. coli standard states that the calendar
month geometric mean concentration shall not exceed 126 cfu/100 ml, or that a maximum single
sample concentration of E. coli shall not exceed 235 cfu/100 ml more than 10% of the time. A

The Use of Distortion as a Literary Device in George...
Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an excellent example of distortion as a literary device. The story is
set up as a fable using a third person objective viewpoint and personification of animals to represent
historical figures and stereotypes. Distortion can also be found in much of the symbolism throughout
the novel. Similar to a fable, Animal Farm makes use of personification. In the story, farm animals are
used to represent different classes of people, from the average working man to government officials
and police or military personnel. This element of the novel goes deeper, when the pigs on the farm
begin to resemble historical figures such as Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, of Russia. Through
distortion of character, Orwell brings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This brings the reader to the level of the working class animals and instills a sense of uncertainty and
disillusionment that is felt by most of the characters in the story. In the beginning, the animals are
excited by Major s talk of rebellion against Mr. Jones and through Orwell s objective point of view,
the same feeling of insurrection is passed on to the audience. As the pigs weave an intricate web of
lies and scandal, the reader gets the sense that not all is well in the same way the animals do. The
difference between the animals and ourselves lies in intelligence. The author deliberately makes the
characters dumber than the average person, allowing us to see through the deception of the pigs,
without the use of a third person omniscient viewpoint. Symbolically, Animal Farm itself is supposed
to represent Russia and the Soviet Union under Communist control. The farm in today s world, being
a small, self sustaining entity may relate to current conditions in North Korea. It seems that Kim Jong
il, like the pigs, is much more equal than his subjects. Kim and Napoleon seem to share the paranoia
of being attacked by more powerful rivals, and both it seems, have a desire to keep their respective
nations in the dark. Perhaps less specifically, the farm could represent human society as a whole. As
mentioned earlier, the characters display an entire spectrum of human classes and stereotypical
personalities.

Assignment 1: Li Essay
Draft 1, 3 March 2015
Squeezed Persimmon The short story Persimmons was written by Yiyun Li. Li was born in 1972 in
Beijing and moved to the United States in 1996 to go to college. She originally studied immunology at
the University of Iowa, but after taking a writing course she started writing fiction. She earned her
master of fine arts in 2005 with a focus on fiction (Yiyun). Persimmons is a short story told by a group
of older men sitting around a tree. They are in the middle of a drought, so their crops and animals are
dying, and they are left with nothing to do. They tell the story of Lao Da, the protagonist of the story.

The term Lao Da means the boss or the leader of the group ( Lao ). The narrators show their respect to
Lao Da by calling him Lao Da and treating him as their leader, even though he is a murderer. The
reason as to why these soft persimmons resort to violence is because the county officials treat the
lower class people, such as farmers, like shit. These soft persimmons are eventually squeezed too hard
and can t take it anymore. If the people of the town were treated fairly, they would not have to resort
to such violence that Lao Da resorted to. Before Lao Da took revenge, he tried as much as he possibly
could to seek justice for what happened to his son. He tried multiple riots with his fellows, but the
county seats just pushed him aside and treated him as if he was a dog. After that he decided to wait
until New Year s Eve, when everyone would be at their own house to individually murder the
seventeen county officials, starting with the one who murdered his son. The narrators seem to believe
that the county officials Squeezed him enough for fun, and that they Squeezed a murder out of it (Li

types of law can be observed. Repressive law (punishing the guilty) and Restitutive law (restoring

as the deregulation that was occurring society. He sheds the light on how people were supposed to act
with each other were breaking down and at a time didn t know what to except from each other. Anomy

absence of social norms and values (dictionary.com.) . Max Weber in 1922 writes Bureaucracy , where
weber believed that structured organizations is a formal, rigid authoritative figure, whereas Weber was
referring to the types of businesses that ran their organization like a family type, informal structure. He
believed that those in a managerial position should be appointed due to their levels of professionalism
and expertise. The principle of office hierarchy and of channels of appeal stipulate a clearly
established system if super and subordination in which there is a supervision of the lower offices by
the higher ones (Weber 2007: p.265). Weber explains in his writings that the old ways such as
feudalism in his time should be done away with, and that society changes their structure to a more

Regulating What We Eat
Should the Government be Regulating What We Eat? More than 160,000 deaths are associated with
obesity each year. People from other countries imagine a country overrun by obese and overweight
people when they think of America. The thing is, those make up only .05% of America s population.
Therefore, the government should not be regulating what we eat, like unhealthy food and junk food.
We ourselves should be able to pick whatever we want to eat. We ourselves know the consequences of
eating unhealthy foods and junk foods and that individuals carry the most responsibility for weight
issues and obesity as it says in a recent poll. Almost 90% of people believe that this is true according

Factory Farm Animal Welfare Abuse Summary
In the United States, most of the meat and dairy products consumers purchase at the grocery store
come from facilities called factory farms. Factory farming is a fast and cheap method of mass
producing meat, cheese, milk, eggs, and several other variations of animal products. Although cost
effective, factory farming is criticized because of the subpar conditions the animals are subjected to,
and the apparent environmental harm they inflict due to the immense amount of waste these factories
produce. In an article titled Using Emerging Pollution Tracking Methods to Address the Downstream

In regards to animal abuse, I have always advocated against animal cruelty and I believe that efforts to
prevent animal cruelty should extend beyond just pets and wild animals. I personally feel that farm
animals deserve the same courtesy and it is hypocritical to allow some species to suffer more than
others simply because they are a cow, chicken, or pig. Regardless of whether they are going to be
slaughtered for meat, they should not have to endure a life of torture in misery. Factory farms need to
prioritize the health and safety of their animals over the mass production of animal products. In
addition, factory farms are responsible for immense water and air pollution which they must be held
accountable for. Over the course of human history, we have seen our environment deteriorate due to
our own desecration. Ideally, we should want this planet to last us as long as possible but by
continuing to pollute our environment, we are effectively shortening our timeline. Keeping track of the
waste and pollution caused by factory farms is essential in preserving our

So it is easy to conclude that china s economic markets are sluggish and weak, for these reasons,
China should adopt this monetary strategy to deal with these series of problems, and keeping the
healthy and steady growth in economic markets. On the other hand, China wanted to increase the
monetary (Yuan) liquidity, further, wanted Yuan to become international reserve currency. Broadly
speaking, China hoped to consolidate its central position in the global economic markets. In
conclusion, pulling the healthy and steady growth internally and pushing Chinese monetary (Yuan)

devalue Yuan.
In the short term, this depreciation action will bring varying degree of positive and negative impact in
China and Global world. In the aspect of positive impact, Chinese aggregate demand will go up

How do we know we are human? How do we know if we are alien? We have the same features, we do

The Book Of Alice B. Toklas By Gertrude Stein
The Modernist writers were all about finding their own identity. There are those who were struggling
to find their own because they were close to the modernists that expressed it. Through
experimentation they were able to find an identity that they were comfortable with. Gertrude Stein
found a voice when she wrote about her life from the point of view of her partner Alice B. Toklas.
When it comes to writers talking about themselves they couldn t help but use the words and actions of
their own characters, to create an idea of experimenting that they are unable to reveal about
themselves or others that hey might have known. They are shadows of who they once were, but create
a new identity under those experiments. The idea of being a shadow of someone else s identity helps
shapes their own but, also the identity of the people that take on as they experiment with finding
themselves . The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas by Gertrude Stein is one of the most known works
by the author. It is often seen as a simple read as compared to the rest of her works. Stein s works are
often seen as experimental. The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas could be seen experimental as well,
because she wanted to tell her story from the perspective of her partner through the eyes of her partner
Toklas. In the first chapter of the book, it may be the only thing that gives a voice to Toklas herself.

To begin with, criterion x (10) states that the area has to have important and natural habitats for

there are three species of the antelope of the Sahara Desert on IUCN s Red List of threatened species,

Harriet Tubman: The Moses of Her People
On a cold night in the middle of winter, a weary slave ran across the field to the woods. There he met
Harriet Tubman, the conductor, and the rest of her sore footed but hopeful passengers who were ready
to start the long, treacherous journey to freedom on the Underground Railroad. Harriet Tubman, later
called Moses , was a runaway slave who came back to her people and helped over 300 of them gain

1822. Her mother worked as a cook for the Brodess family and her father was a skilled woodsman
who managed the timber work on the Thompson s plantation (Harriet Tubman par. 2). Because her
mother was so busy in the kitchen, Harriet cared for her younger siblings, till she reached the age of

intense situations in which the main characters in the novel face life or death situations, and whether
they would make it out in one piece is extremely unlikely. A harmonica bounces around this story and
becomes a symbol of hope for all three of the characters. Hope is their only resource to draw the
strength they need. They were saved by hope. The light in the darkest of times was proven to them and
shown to them by hope. In the award winning novel, Echo by Pam Munoz Ryan, the harmonica
symbolizes hope. It starts its long journey in a mystical forest with three sisters.
Their names are Eins, Zwei, and Drei are sent to live with a witch as newborn babies. Discovering
they have a real family, they decide to come home. The witch grows enraged; for they completely

The Cask Of Amontillado Chapter 1 Summary
This story tells about premature murder. Poe uses first person viewpoints because in a first person
view human weakness is apparent. The action and dialogue of the charters add a great deal of value to
the plot. Montresor tells the story of the night when he took his revenge on Fortunato, a fellow
nobleman. Angry over some vague insult, he plans to murder his friend during Carnival, a celebration
like Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Montresor chooses to wait until Fortunato is drunk and cannot
understand what is going on. Montresor attracts him into the catacombs to try a cask of amontillado
and then seals him away to die there. The story s setting adds to the atmosphere of horror, as Poe s
usage of time and place cause the readers to predict the next action. The festival gives Montresor an
excellent opportunity not only to appear in disguise, but to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There is no investigation of Montresor s crime and the criminal himself explains how he committed
the murder more than a half century earlier. He never faces criminal punishment for his wicked
actions. The mystery is in Montresor s motive for killing. His motive is uncertain other than the vague
thousand injuries that he has suffered at the hands of Fortunato to which he mentions. Montresor tries
to convince the reader that his intentions are honorable in an effort to maintain his family motto Nemo
me impune lacessit (No one insults me with impunity). Irony, both dramatic and verbal, plays a
significant part in this process. Dramatic irony occurs when the reader becomes painfully mindful of
what will become of Fortunato even though he continues his descent into the catacombs in search of
the Amontillado. Poe adds to this effect by calling the character Fortunato. It is ironic that a man of
misfortune is named Fortunato, and dressing him in a fool s costume since Montresor means to make a
fool of him as part of his

  • 2. The Effects Of Sexual Harassment On Female Officers Imagine being a female officer working in a male dominated environment where the male officers tell sexually explicit jokes in the hallway. Supervisors play a pivotal role in managing a productive diversified workplace (Miller More, 2011). All employees should feel at ease while in their work environment (Miller More, 2011). Officers tend to get comfortable in how the department operates and expect things to continue to function in the same way. Supervisors must counteract harmful or undesirable actions or behaviors immediately when an employee becomes difficult to work with or display unsuitable behavior, which can impair the effectiveness of the officer (Miller More, 2011). Supervisors deal with a variety of employee behavior; however, supervisors must be fair and competent when evaluating employees behavior (Miller More, 2011). Change is inevitable; however, it is necessary to the growth of a law enforcement agency (Miller More, 2011). Sexual harassment is any unwelcome sexual advance or conduct on the job that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment. Any conduct of a sexual nature that makes an employee uncomfortable has the potential to be sexual harassment (NOLO, 2014, para. 4). In order to explain the relationship between discipline and obedience from a Montessori perspective, it would be useful define and compare the more common explanations of these terms with the interpretations of Maria Montessori. The development of the child within the Montessori setting and in particular the maturational development of discipline, obedience and the will shall then be discussed. In so doing, a very close and almost symbiotic relationship between all three will become apparent. At around the age of 2 ½ to 3 however, consciousness emerges and all that has been stored up in the Mneme, together with new information, begins to come into the conscious mind, transforming into memory and reason. The child has is now entering the second phase of the Absorbent Mind, known as the Social Embryonic stage (Montessori, 2007a). Montessori (1963) describes the child as unbalanced and having certain deviations (lack of control or discipline resulting in possible aggression or passivity). Importantly, with respect to discipline and obedience, it is when the horme and egocentricity begin to wane and the child becomes more aware of others and their needs. It is at this stage that the child enters the Nursery. Through her observations, Montessori held that a child will pass through several sensitive periods during the Absorbent Mind, where he/she has an intrinsic sensibility to acquiring particular skills beneficial to his/her development (Montessori, 2007a). He/she is drawn to particular activities that will match the particular sensitivity such as a sensitivity to order or small objects for example. ( Homer ) Homer s writings were used to teach Greek students how to read in school (Beers 120). Style5 conventions (121) The 5 conventions Homer uses in his writing are invocation (invoking action), in medias res (middle of action), epic similes (comparing heroic events to events in everyday life), metrical structure (6 syllables per line so a passage will be easier for a speaker to memorize), and stock epithets (descriptive adjective) (Beers 121). Philosophies Greeks believed in many gods, and due to Homer s blindness, many people believed that Homer had godlike abilities. This is because it was said by philosophers that after losing one sense other abilities became stronger, which meant that Homer s other senses had become godlike (Beers 120). Every time the Greeks found something that they didn t understand they created a God to explain the phenomenon (Massa). The main gods that appear in The Odyssey are Zeus, the god of the Sky, who saves Odysseus multiple times, Poseidon, the god of the ocean, who holds resentment toward Odysseus, Hades, the god of the Underworld, Athena, the goddess of wisdom, justice, war, civilization, and peace, and Hermes, the god of mischief, who saves Odysseus many times but fools around with him first. A Comparison Of Willy Loman And The Silence Of The Lambs The phrase, I m having an old friend for dinner, when read now, may seem like a completely innocent phrase; nevertheless, when one realizes this seemingly innocent phrase is actually a quote from Hannibal Lecter, a cannibal from the movie The Silence of the Lambs, one s opinion of this may change. This phrase can be classified as a double entendre, or a figure of speech which can be interpreted in two different ways. Another example of a double entendre is the title of Arthur Miller s play, Death of a Salesman, because not only does a salesman literally die, but so does the false dream of becoming one. Again in the fifth line he requests that If we must die, O let us nobly die,/ So that our precious blood may not be shed/ In vain (5 7). These have also included health and water oriented conferences, but most importantly in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) adopted by the General Assembly of the UN in 2000. The UN General Assembly declared the period from 2005 to 2015 as the International Decade for Action, Water for Life [1]. Access to safe drinking water is important as a health and development issue at national, regional and local levels. Bangladesh, a developing country from South Asian (SA) region also takes several steps for ensuring sanitation and safe drinking water facilities among the people. As a result, Bangladesh has made great progress in this sector. The government also claimed that it has achieved the MDG indicator of ensuring safe drinking water for 85% people of the country. According to different demographic and health surveys, the percentage of using improved sources of drinking water is about 98% (reported in the latest two surveys Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) 2012 13 and Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS) 2014) [2,3]. • 25. Questions On Total Maximum Daily Load 4.0 TMDL ALLOCATION Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) allocation aims to develop the framework to decrease bacteria loads to ensure that water quality standards are met and establish a TMDL equation for each impaired segment. The TMDL, the maximum amount of a pollutant that can be assimilated by a waterbody and still achieve the water quality standard, is the sum of the individual waste load allocations (WLAs) for point sources, load allocations (LAs) for both nonpoint sources and natural background, and a margin of safety (MOS). This definition is denoted by the following equation: TMDL = Σ WLAs + Σ LAs + MOS Development of a TMDL is an iterative process that involves modeling and generation of allocation scenarios that meet the water quality criteria. The calibrated HSPF model was used to develop various pollutant reduction scenarios and the final TMDL allocation. Each scenario consists of a combination of load reductions from direct deposition and/or land based bacteria sources. The modeled scenarios provide an insight to the significance of different bacteria sources in each TMDL watershed and TMDL allocation possibilities. The TMDLs were developed based on the Virginia State standard for E. coli. The DEQ freshwater primary contact recreational use E. coli standard states that the calendar month geometric mean concentration shall not exceed 126 cfu/100 ml, or that a maximum single sample concentration of E. coli shall not exceed 235 cfu/100 ml more than 10% of the time. • 26. The Use of Distortion as a Literary Device in George... Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an excellent example of distortion as a literary device. The story is set up as a fable using a third person objective viewpoint and personification of animals to represent historical figures and stereotypes. Distortion can also be found in much of the symbolism throughout the novel. Similar to a fable, Animal Farm makes use of personification. In the story, farm animals are used to represent different classes of people, from the average working man to government officials and police or military personnel. This element of the novel goes deeper, when the pigs on the farm begin to resemble historical figures such as Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, of Russia. Through distortion of character, Orwell brings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This brings the reader to the level of the working class animals and instills a sense of uncertainty and disillusionment that is felt by most of the characters in the story. In the beginning, the animals are excited by Major s talk of rebellion against Mr. Jones and through Orwell s objective point of view, the same feeling of insurrection is passed on to the audience. As the pigs weave an intricate web of lies and scandal, the reader gets the sense that not all is well in the same way the animals do. The difference between the animals and ourselves lies in intelligence. The author deliberately makes the characters dumber than the average person, allowing us to see through the deception of the pigs, without the use of a third person omniscient viewpoint. Symbolically, Animal Farm itself is supposed to represent Russia and the Soviet Union under Communist control. The farm in today s world, being a small, self sustaining entity may relate to current conditions in North Korea. It seems that Kim Jong il, like the pigs, is much more equal than his subjects. Kim and Napoleon seem to share the paranoia of being attacked by more powerful rivals, and both it seems, have a desire to keep their respective nations in the dark. Perhaps less specifically, the farm could represent human society as a whole. As mentioned earlier, the characters display an entire spectrum of human classes and stereotypical personalities. The reason as to why these soft persimmons resort to violence is because the county officials treat the lower class people, such as farmers, like shit. These soft persimmons are eventually squeezed too hard and can t take it anymore. If the people of the town were treated fairly, they would not have to resort to such violence that Lao Da resorted to. Before Lao Da took revenge, he tried as much as he possibly could to seek justice for what happened to his son. He tried multiple riots with his fellows, but the county seats just pushed him aside and treated him as if he was a dog. After that he decided to wait until New Year s Eve, when everyone would be at their own house to individually murder the seventeen county officials, starting with the one who murdered his son. The narrators seem to believe that the county officials Squeezed him enough for fun, and that they Squeezed a murder out of it (Li 182). Lao Da is not only a soft persimmon, but also a heroic ... Factory farming is a fast and cheap method of mass producing meat, cheese, milk, eggs, and several other variations of animal products. Although cost effective, factory farming is criticized because of the subpar conditions the animals are subjected to, and the apparent environmental harm they inflict due to the immense amount of waste these factories produce.
