Novel Word Condition
Materials During the experiment, children will be sitting on a small chair by a small table located in a
quiet room, where an experimenter will present two pictures of females wearing differently colored
shirts (black and white). The informants physical appearances, such as hair color and facial
expressions will be matched. During the training trial, four pictures of familiar words will be used for
the participants in the familiar word condition (e.g., little, silly, asleep); four pictures of novel words
will be used for the participants in the novel word condition (e.g., meager, doltish, dormant). During
the subsequent testing trial and generalization trial, four pictures of novel words (e.g., momentum,
lexicon, sufficing) will be used, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers could investigate children s preference by manipulating the social identity (e.g., native
accent versus foreign accent) of the informants, or do so by manipulating the length of the definition
(e.g., short versus long definitions).

Persuasive Essay About Cheerleading
According to the article Cheerleading Most Dangerous Sport for Females Andy Soltis states,
Cheerleading is by far the most dangerous role for female athletes...the study of junior and senior high
school cheerleaders found that 37 percent had symptoms of a concussion but failed to report them, and
soon enough I would begin my cheerleading career. Little did I know I would lose something I couldn
t get back, yet this would be my best mistake. My cheerleading career began in the seventh grade
when I tried out for the Meadow Glen Middle School cheer team. The year I tried out Meadow Glen
was a new school, so I did not know the cheer coach, most of the people at tryouts, or how difficult
the tryout process was going to be. Trying out for the team and taking this risk was a step out of my
comfort zone. Eventually the first day of tryouts rolled around and I was ready. I went through the
process with confidence and a smile on my face. Every other day of tryouts went by fast and the final
day had come. After tryouts were over, I went home to wait for the time the results were going to be
posted. Nervously I came back to Meadow Glen when the results of the girls who made the team were
posted and I saw my name on the list! My face gleamed with joy. Both of my two friends made the
team as well and I was so thrilled for the year to come. My first year as a cheerleader was all I
expected it to be. We were not a competition team because we were a first year school but

Introduction. Throughout The Course Of One’S Academic And
Introduction
Throughout the course of one s academic and professional career, one will be required to create,
present, and receive needed information via numerous presentations which utilize slide deck software
such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, and Apple s Keynote. In this project, I will discuss the
effective use of these applications to create presentations which effectively utilize elements of visual
design to effectively communicate with an audience. My interest in this topic comes from my
experience as both a student and a professional. In these capacities, I have regularly experience both
the audience and the presenter side of slide shows and I have seen how this method of disseminating

Technology has given anyone with basic computer knowledge the ability to create multimodal blended
structure slide decks, and then distribute this media throughout the internet. I utilized The Non
Designer s Design Book because it emphasizes the four basic principles of good visual design, which
can easily be applied to create slide based presentations. These four principles include contrast,
repetition, alignment and proximity. The proper implementation of the principles are key to the
creation of an effective slideshow presentation. Another influential reading from our course which I
am able to apply to my project is Visual Language for Designers. The main points I take from this
reading, which are applicable to this project are the idea of minimalism in a low fidelity visual and the
idea of reducing the quantity of elements in a visual.
For this project, I also utilized other sources which dealt directly with the effective use of visual in
presentations. One valuable project resource was a 2014 TEDx talk given by David JP Phillips entitle
How to Avoid Death by PowerPoint. The main points taken from this source include the limitation of
one topic per slide, the importance of the size of visuals in presentations, the ability to capture the
attention of an audience with the effective use of

Methyl Orange Synthesis Lab Report
Experiment 11B consisted of synthesizing methyl orange, a synthetic dye, and testing this dye s
coloring quality and effectiveness as a pH indicator. Methyl orange is an acid base indicator. In a pH
of greater than 4.4, it becomes a yellow solution with a negatively charged sulfonate ion. When
submerged into a solution with a pH less than 3.2, the dipolar red ion (helianthin) predominates.
Methyl orange is a type of azo dye, which is commonly found in food, fabric, paint, and other brightly
colored products. The general structure consists of the N5N functional group sandwiched between two
aromatic species. Azo dyes are brightly colored because of their extensive conjugated system which
gives rise to a strong chromophore. The exact color depends on both the nature of the aromatic group
and the substituents. Methyl orange is synthesized through an azo coupling reaction between a
diazonium ion and N,N dimethylaniline. An electrophilic aromatic substitution causes the positively
charged diazonium ion to act as the electrophilic species. In the first step of azo coupling the
diazonium intermediate is synthesized. This process is called diazonation, in which the diazonium
intermediate is formed by the reaction between sulfanilic acid (an aromatic amine) ... Show more

Republic Government Essay
The best government is a Republic government. A Republic government is also known as a direct
democracy. It is very effective and works smoothly. The people are big part of the government,
because they vote on a leader to represent them and make decisions for them. This way of democracy
is amazing because of how the people are such a big part of it. Another interesting fact is that the first
Republic was the Roman Republic. The Roman Republic was an impressive system that lasted for 500
years. It was impressive because it had three branches, the Magistrates, the Senate, and the Assemblies
and Tribunes. The Magistrates were elected officials who enforced laws and judged cases. The Senate

Is The Holocaust A Collective Memory By Peter Novick
The Holocaust as a Collective Memory
In Peter Novick s Is the Holocaust An American Memory? , Novick successfully defines ways that
collective memories develop, eventually concluding that the Holocaust was not a collective memory.
In his argument, he gives three different definitions of a collective memory. He then explains how
Americans do not meet these definitions based on geographical location, and not experiencing it first
hand. The author is trying to get across that even though the Holocaust is discussed a lot in various
contexts, it is not defined as a collective memory for Americans. The Holocaust was as Novick
suggests cost free for Americans, meaning they did not lose anything. Germans were directly affected
by this historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though he was arguing against the majority of Americans being directly tied to the Holocaust, he
was careful to add that it does not mean all Americans were not. In explaining a collective memory as
someone having direct contact with the event as a witness, he adds, In postwar America, the total of
those recent immigrants who fell into any of these categories was some small fraction of one percent
of the population (Novick, 5). This is important to include, as if he did not, it may offend people. His
argument still stands, as he said is was merely one percent of the population. This could also be
another example of overturning any counterarguments that may come up. If he had not mentioned that
one percent of the population, his argument would have been weak. It would have been very easy to
contradict that statement otherwise. In mentioning that part, even though it seemed insignificant, I
believe it saved his whole argument.
This piece by Novick was an overall cohesive, convincing, and respectful piece about the Holocaust.
In proving his point, he added additional ethos by abolishing counterarguments and recognizing that
this does not include every American. These things greatly added to the success of this piece overall
and made it more enjoyable to read. Americans cannot define the Holocaust as a collective memory, it
is a collective knowledge of what happened, but

Shadow of the Night
Shadow of the Night
On a freezing, dark blue night of Li, in the Village of Li Marta. This was an old little village, the
houses were nothing but ash and rubble except an old abandoned barn. The barn had creaking floor
boards and a rotten wooden roof.
In this abandoned barn there lived a young and confident farm boy; his clothes were ragged and full of
holes. The young boy was called Rye named after the agricultural god Ren Rye.
As Rye was sitting on the creaking floor boards a thought hit him, he remembered something his
mother told him, be strong like an ox! Suddenly a gang of raiders came down from the north came to
torch the village to ashes. A horn blew. It was the raider chieftain Kai Tai s way of terrifying the
villagers. Outside the Barn two raiders were battering through the barn door, then Rye s mother said
hide, son! Hide in the rafters! from his hiding place Rye saw the doomed doors explode into a shower
of splinters and he saw his mother being dragged away.
Rye remembered those horrendous moments. In frustration he would kick a stone for no purpose or
reason. His father fought till his last breath and defending Rye, valiantly clutching his pitchfork.
Rye had woken up from that dreadful nightmare, he was now somewhere unfamiliar a dark, dark
place, where there was no light. It was the spirit realm of Gahem a quiet but deadly realm to stay in.
Suddenly out of the darkness a shadow appeared the shadow had black clothing and a dark purple

Business Process Of Small Business
Introduction The process of small business creation requires that entrepreneurs engage significant
analysis and planning. There are many considerations that a potential small business owner must make
to ensure that they are making not only the best decisions for the business itself, but for them as
individuals. Entrepreneurs must identify things such as the product(s) and/or service(s) they wish to
offer to their customers, how they will market their offerings, where they will locate their business,
how they will manage that business, etc. All of these elements play a critical role in the successful
operations and profit earning capabilities of the businesses. This paper sets out to identify the factors
an entrepreneur must consider when deciding on the ownership model for the business. It will then
examine the advantages and disadvantages of starting a business through franchising. Lastly, this
paper will examine the criteria an entrepreneur should evaluate before purchasing an existing
business.
List several factors an entrepreneur should consider before choosing a form of ownership?
One of the most significant decisions an entrepreneur will make will center on the ownership of their
organization (Scarborough Cornwall, 2014, p. 138). This organizational component is crucial to the
successful operation of the business and as such, there are a number of considerations entrepreneurs
must make when selecting the appropriate ownership model of their small business. The

Return of Martin Guerre
Starting with the premodern society and moving on to our modern society I will compare and contrast
the two societies. In the film The Return of Martin Guerre, the people lived on a pre modern society.
They lived in a agricultural society and this was shown by many reasons. First they had permanent
homes and used animals as well as tools to work their crops. They also used a crop rotation instead of
burning the land. This is just a basic outline of the society that Martin lived in. Looking deeper into
their social structure their society was much different than a modern one. As far as statuses and roles,
Martins society believe that status was more ascribed than achieved. This meant that being an older
person or a parent meant you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Events such as marriage were shared and talked about and doing things as an individual wasnot
common, like Martin originally leaving the village. Another example is that when the travelers came
into town they were not seen as trustworthy even though they claimed that the person they called
Martin was Arnaud. became suspicious not only of the strangers but also Arnaud. Going onto our
modern society there is a clear contrast but some similarities between now and the premodern society.
First, looking at the type of society we live in it is considered a information society. Unlike
agricultural, which was based off of growing crops and creating a food surplus, we create and store
information. We divide our labor like the ag. society but it is highly specialized work. People in an
information society also have a permanent settlement, instead of living in a village we live in suburban
residences outside of large cities. Included in this is commuting for work which means people now
have to travel farther distances to work. The main social focus is based off of consumption not
production like agricultural. Finally, children are seen more as expensive not a helping hand or
insurance when you get older like the premodern societies. Going to statuses and roles in a modern
society, there are very little similarities to the premodern. Unlike premodern,

Consumerism Ruining
Consumerism and how it is Ruining Us I am consumer. I buy and purchase products and services I
feel that I need or that I want. But do I really need them? Well, online ads and television
advertisements make it feel like I do. That if I don t have them then I am missing out or I can only be
happy if I get this product or service. So now I become addicted to consuming products and services
in the pursuit of an artificial happiness. Consumerism is ruining me with its illusion of bringing
happiness and the ideas of acceptance from my peers. But it is not just that alone that it can ruin.
Consumerism can ruin how relationships are viewed, how a young girl or young boy can view their
own bodies and left us all craving something that we honestly don t need. So I want to talk about the
different ways that consumerism is ruining us and the first hand experiences I have had with it.
Consumerism is basically the act of encouraging consumers to buy products and services, which is
seen a lot in today s day and age. Companies will spend large sums of money marketing a product to
consumers like me. They make it seem like I need this product because it will bring me happiness or
love or social acceptance. Jean Kilbourne who is an author and speaker, has been internationally
recognized for her work on the image of women in advertising. In her article Jesus is a Brand of Jeans
she points out how the problem with advertising isn t that it creates artificial needs but that it

Examining Effectiveness Of Treatment Strategies Used With...
Examining Effectiveness of Treatment Strategies Used With Survivors of Rape Therapy for survivors
of rape is often difficult to obtain. The lack of availability of counselors who specialize in specific
trauma treatments, like prolonged exposure and cognitive processing therapy, as well as lack of
insurance and location, are hardships for treatment seeking individuals. Therefore, it is important to
pinpoint the most effective treatments for those who have suffered the trauma of rape. The purpose of
this research is to outline the most effective, lasting, and current treatments used to treat female
survivors of sexual assault. Modern treatments for rape trauma syndrome include cognitive,
behavioral, and exposure components. The specific protocols of cognitive processing therapy and
prolonged exposure have both been demonstrated to be effective in treating posttraumatic stress
disorder and common comorbid disorders, like depression, anxiety, guilt, and anger (Resick, Williams,
Suvak, Monson, Gradus, 2012, p. 202). Existential therapy, person centered counseling, and eye
movement desensitization and reprocessing are underlying philosophies and techniques investigated.
It can prove difficult to find empirically supported treatments because the research is often not
explicitly experimental, and there is a limitation to sampling. Examining different types of standard
treatments used with female survivors of rape is necessary to weigh the advantages and disadvantages

Forensic Science And The Scientific Examination Of Evidence
The scientific examination of evidence in criminal cases found in a crime scene is called forensic
science. Forensic scientists use the same technology, tools and methods used by other scientists doing
other types of research, including microscopes, computers, and lasers. As forensic science has
advanced over the years, so has the ability to gather evidence and solve crimes. At crime scenes, lasers
provide lighting to track blood sample that not visible to the naked eye. Forensic imaging technology
is technology that lets the first responding local police department or crime scene investigators
immediately send a photo or fingerprint image to a central database for identification. Computers can
enhance pictures taken by a camera and use features like the facial recognition software to clearly
identify blurred images. Lasers can also vaporize small portions of paint specimens to determine the
exact paint used on a car in a hit and run case. Although this science has been used for years, wrongful
convictions have brought to the attention that forensic science has been faulty for decades. The
chilling truth is that forensic science has contributed to convicting innocent people over the decades
and will continue to do so if the normality continues.
According to the Virginia Law Review, fingerprint analysis which are based on humans using or
computers attempting to find and match patterns are incredibly subjected to mistakes. Not the kind of

participate in saving for their future. When someone reaches retirement age, if the finances are there,

The hopes were with enhanced programs, the disabled would be able to return to the workforce. With
the introduction of the Senior Citizens Freedom to Work Act of 2000, retirement age individuals were
able to continue to work at their full retirement age and still receive benefits. The Medicare
Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003 added the voluntary prescription drug
program under the Medicare program. With the No Social Security Benefits for Prisoners Act of 2009,
prisoners were prohibited from collecting social security benefits while they were in prison or in
violation of parole or probation. The most recent change enacted to the Social Security program was
the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010. This Act
instituted a 2% reduction in employee s payroll taxes. (www.ssa.gov/history)
The state of our current Social Security program is that there are fewer workers to fund the Social
Security program through payroll taxes due to the decrease in number of birth rates per woman.
Simple math shows that less people to contribute equals less money being funded. Social Security
payroll taxes were just reduced from 6.2% to 4.2% per worker. To be eligible to receive Social
Security benefits, you must earn 40 credits which is equivalent to 10 years of working. The monthly
retirement benefit amount is based on the retired workers lifetime earnings.

technology has been able to detect and cure which is why the average lifespan has been lengthened so
drastically. Computerized technology however is not the only strides made in the medical field. The
development of new medicines to combat the different pathogens have made tremendous progress in
the past few decades. These medicines and vaccines have helped us cure millions and have made some
diseases that wiped out entire populations in the past irrelevant now. Smallpox, a terrible diseases that

Jap A Economic Power
Japan, to this day, is a major economic power that has major influence on the rest of the world. It is a
nuclear state, and has a GDP of almost 5 trillion USD. Japan wasn t just like this and has gone through
a tremendous period of growth after World War II in 1945. Since then, its economy has grown through
its technological and manufacturing side. When the company was defeated in 1945, it was in an
economic ruin. Everything that came before was in shambles, but little did the country know there was
huge room for growth. (Ohno, 2006)
After Japan was defeated in 1945, Japan was under US occupation. During this time a recovery
strategy was put into place to work with the already in motion political and economic system. The
Japanese entered a period of rapid growth between the years 1950 1970. This growth completely
changed the economy and made Japan one of the best capitalistic economies of its time. Japan was a
major industrialized nation with many new companies coming into power. This would of not been
possible without Subsidies, fukkin loans and US aid. (Ohno, 2006)The Japanese benifeted from the
war because of its close alliance with America and the fact of letting American troops station in Japan.
War was actually an important factor of economic growth in Japan. Due to the fact of many factories
and companies being wiped during the war, investments were made to bring better equipment into the
factory so that efficiency was highly prioritized. Ohno puts it, New

sometimes held in low esteem by men through the eyes of a tired housewife who has had it with her
monotonous day to day duties. In this poem, it is not stated that the speaker is a homemaker, but the
reader is told about one woman in particular who is meant to express the feelings of women as a
whole. The author conveys this central idea through imagery, figurative language, and devices of
sound.

Another meaning of the word calico refers to a cat, which alludes to the Cheshire cat who is famous
for his ear to ear smile which can give the reader another image in the somewhat sarcastic phrase,
All over America women are burning
food they re supposed to bring with calico
smile on platters glittering like wax.
Wax is also known to be a very malleable and weak substance, like women were assumed to be at one
time, and still are in some societies.
The poem undergoes a change in tone here, from matter of fact to angry. This can be seen when the
speaker suddenly gives the reader such a strong metaphor as the one shown in the line, Anger sputters
in her brainpan, confined/but spewing out missiles of hot fat. This is also a powerful image of an
imprisoned woman who is enraged by the fact that she is not appreciated and demands some honour
and respect for what she does on a daily basis. The usage of the word missiles is connected to the last
line in the poem: Burning dinner is not incompetence but war. This is her message that I m SICK OF
THIS! and also it is the central idea in What s That Smell in the Kitchen? The woman is declaring a
war on her husband and society in general for taking advantage of women and not giving them a more
fulfilling role. At the time that this poem was written, the role of women was nowhere near as diverse
as it is today, and women were

Dollar Shave Club Compare And Contrast
The two companies Burma Shave and Dollar Shave club are so similar yet their marketing and
promotions are two totally different and that is to be expected. For
Both companies are targeting the same audience males who have facial hair although Dollar Shave
Club seems to be targeting the more urban working male and maybe the family guy with the
integration of a baby in the commercial. Dollar Shave Club also is targeting YUPPIES. While Burma
Shave was targeting the man who just returned home from war or the man who is constantly travelling
on the road whether it is working for a construction company or just driving the trucks.

In my personal opinion both companies did a great job at reaching their target audience. They brought
their marketing to places that they knew their consumers would be. I.e. Burma Shave used road signs
because during that time period men were more than likely to be found travelling the road and
working instead of at home. Or they would be returning home from work. While Dollar Shave Club
used social media and online ad because their target audience would be found suffering the Internet in
search of products that they can use or watching YouTube videos. Both did an outstanding job.
If I had to choose between which campaign was the most ground breaking I would have to say Burma
Shave. The reason I chose Burma Shave is because they thought out of the box by using road signs to
get people to purchase their product. When driving on the road you would always need something to

Poe, follows the narrator through the days that lead up to his loss in sanity. Now what did this man do
to make him go insane? He committed a crime, to be more specific, murder. For seven long nights he
would stalk up to an old man s bedroom and watch him sleep while shinning a crevice of light on his
vulture eye , an eye that was blue and filmed over. On the eighth night was when the murder was
committed. The old man woke up when he heard a sound in his room. The narrator was caught, but
when he saw the eye he lashed out and crushed him under the bed, dismembered the body, and hid it
under the floor boards.

Essay about The Awakening by Edna Pontellier
The Awakening by Edna Pontellier
The Awakening by Kate Chopin introduces the reader to the life of Edna Pontellier, a woman with an
independent nature searching for her true identity in a patriarchal society that expects women to be
nothing more than devoted wives and nurturing mothers.
The Awakening begins in the vacation spot of Grand Isle. At first we believe that Grand Isle is a
utopia, wealthy families relaxing at oceanside, but it is here where Edna first begins to realize her
unhappiness. The first sign of dissatisfaction is when Edna allows herself to feel that her marriage is
unsatisfying, yet she must agree with the other women that Leonce Pontellier is the perfect husband.
Edna asks herself that if she has a good husband ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

needs an outlet to express who she is. Edna feels that art is important and adds meaning to her life.
After the summer is over and they are back to the city and Edna is a changed woman. She makes
many steps towards independence. She stops holding Tuesday socials , she sends her children to live
in the country with their grandparents, she refuses to travel abroad with her husband, she moves out of
the Lebrun house on Esplanade Street, and to earn money, she starts selling her sketches and betting
the horses. She also starts a relationship with another man Alcee Arobin. He meant nothing to her
emotionally but she used him for sexual pleasure. Edna evolved above her peers she did not believe
that sexuality and motherhood had to be linked. The last step of her awakening is the realization that
she can not fulfill her life in a society that will not allow her to be a person and a mother. Edna
commits suicide in the ocean at Grand Isle.
She married Leonce not because she loved him but because she could not refuse his admiration and
persistence. This marriage thrusts Edna into a foreign culture. She questions her role as a mother
because she is different from the typical Creole mother woman. Edna defies the central perception that
women are mothers first

A Better Way Of Life
A Better Way of Life Alcoholism is a disease that affects millions of people all around the world.
Everyday people die from alcoholism, families are split, children and wives are abused, jobs are lost
and good people seem more and more hopeless. According to Mayoclinic.org, an online medical
dictionary, alcoholism can be described as a pattern of heavy drinking which involves trouble of
controlling the intake of alcohol, still drinking after problems flourish that are caused by our drinking,
having to drink more and more every time to get to the same buzz and having alcohol withdrawals
when you stop or drink less. These are symptoms of a life threatening disease. Many might say that
alcoholism is mind state and could simply be dominated with a strong will power, this is not the case.
A true alcoholic cannot stop drinking on his own and live a happy and normal life. Alcohol takes
control of the mind , the body and the spirit, quitting seems nearly impossible. According to the
National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, (NCADD), this year in the United states it
was calculated that around 17.6 Million people drink alcohol in an abusive way. It also mentions that
88,000 deaths are due an excessive use of alcohol and 40% of patients in hospitals are being treated
for conditions caused by a heavy drinking lifestyle. It is clear and evident that there is a huge problem,
a problem that is ignored by many who do not see this disease as dangerous as it really is.

In the movie of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, the role of feminism plays a huge emphasis. It is a
film that would be placed in the category of being a classical and revisionist genre. The reason behind
that is because the female is the main character. In other movies, the male characters are the lead
characters for most of the time. This movie breaks that rule which is why it is a revisionist. When you

The first of the ten articles to be discussed examined a training program that consisted of an
individualized, classroom based social skills intervention. In the study, there were 45 children with
learning disabilities 9 12 years old. These children were in self contained special education
classrooms. Thirteen children received intervention for 6 weeks and 7 children received intervention
for 12 weeks. The remaining 25 children were in the control group, which received no intervention.
The intervention consisted of the SST and AST programs. These programs were designed to facilitate

The children were interviewed to determine whom they viewed as their friends. The parents were
concurrently interviewed to glean the same information. 6 weeks later, parents were audio taped
describing the friendships of their children. Seven themes became apparent as a result of the parent
interviews: discrepancy between parent and child concept of friendship, social immaturity, social
skills deficits, compatibility, satisfaction with relationships, barriers and facilitators, and parent s role.
Three important ideas emerged in the conclusion section of this research study. First, researchers have
not considered the topic of quality of friendship of learning disabled children. Second, when
considering special education placement, it may be important to look at classroom environment to
determine if it is conducive to promoting the formation of mutual friendships. Finally, mothers might
benefit from sensitization to the need for being engaged with promoting their learning disabled child s
social relationships. (Weiner Sunohara, 1998). A fourth article discussed learning to learn
cooperatively for learning disabled students. Four questions were considered: can social problem
solving be improved for students with learning problems, will cooperative behavior increase for
students with learning problems, will metacognitive strategy instruction in social behavior increase the
interaction and socialization skills of shy as well as popular students, and

Essay about Private Property
The ideology behind what private property represents and conveys through the theories of both Locke
and Marx s results in contrasting views. Locke heavily stresses the blending of labor and common
land to create private property to increase one s wealth. Liberty and livelihood under Locke s theory is
tied to the ability of an individual to control the use of their private property. Marx s theory strongly
contends that the bourgeoisie has gained control of the profit making private properties leaving the
working class in a stage of exploitation. Marx s conclusion then is to set private property in the hands
of the people in hopes of creating universal economic equality. Respectively each thesis places
governments, labour and religion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marx s model of private property views it as means of production creating a division of labor. In his
theory, Marx takes a look and how private property, along with wealth, are funneled into the hands of
the few leaving the ordinary worker unable to gain wealth from private property. The outcome of
Marx s principle can be seen especially in the last 30 years in the US with the increase of inequality
and access to wealth to unprecedented numbers (USA 11).
When examining both theories about private property one cannot go without recognizing the
important role that labour plays. Locke who considers labour the cornerstone of man s ability to
provide upon himself and that the act itself is so important labour indeed that puts the difference of
value on every thing (MPT 297). Locke s belief that every man is born into the world with an equal
amount of capability with labour as the main variable determining success. Marx s writings take a
look at where private property comes from and who is the beneficiary of such a product. This is where
labour is introduced into his analyzes of private property and the concept of externalized labor, that is,
externalized man, alienated labor, alienated life and alienated man (MPT 771). Marx s theories look
into the exploitation of one social group, the proletarians, by the wealthy class, the bourgeois that is
now in the open due to the structure of capitalism. The workers eventually

The Apology Prime Minister Kevin Rudd
On the 13th February 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, offered an Apology to the Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander People by way of a speech that he presented to the 42nd parliament of the
Commonwealth. His speech outlined the past oppression of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
people who had to endure pain and suffering. Children were forcibly removed from their families.
Mr Rudd opened his speech in parliament with the words We honour the Indigenous peoples of this
land, the oldest continuing cultures in human history (2012). It is true that Mr Rudd took the first step
in reconciliation however he has not progressed as far as hoped. There has been little compensation
made to the stolen generation. Was the apology a sincere one? Perhaps? His intentions were clear and
precise. Rudd had said he would apologize and he did. He did not say he would compensate the
Indigenous Australians in any form which would have gone a long way to begin the healing process.
Especially due to the inconceivable horrors that were enacted against the Stolen Generations.
Kevin Rudd s speech was eloquent and lengthy (2012). He continued to make promises to the
Indigenous Australians saying they, the government, were determined to close the gap, embrace new
solutions to old issues and form a partnership between Indigenous and non Indigenous Australians.
Mr Rudd further explains the

The Movie Redwood Highway Release Essay
The movie, Redwood Highway was release in April 2013. The main character, Marie Vaughan
(Shirley Knight), is an older woman who resides in the Mountain Meadows Retirement Community in
Oregon, alienated from her family and unhappy with her circumstances. Marie s character is portrayed
as a cantankerous, stubborn and lonely old woman. Marie aggrieved she was forced to be placed in the
retirement community, Mountain Meadows, by her son, Michael. Marie takes a long walk to the
downtown instead of around the retirement community grounds against the concerned son, Michael s
recommendation. Marie s behavior may be perceived as she is rebellion toward her son, but I believe
she is trying to maintain only independence she has left, being able to walk. As Quadagno explained
personality influences the way an individual adapts to changes associated with normal aging.
(Quadagno, 2013, pg. 169) In my opinion, Marie s character portrayed a strongly proud woman who
resisted losing independence.
The Movie, Redwood Highway, showed two stereotypes of aging from the Quadagno s Aging and the
life course: An introduction to social gerontology book. First, most retirees are lonely and depressed.
Second, the aged are isolated from family members. (Quadagno, 2013, pg. 14) Marie believes she is
thrown in an old people s home by her son, Michael who treats her as she is incapable of making
decisions and alienated from her family that made her unhappy with her circumstances. Marie didn t

Importance Of Coming Of Age Experience
College always seems to find a way to the back of student minds. Every single one of them wondering
if college is worth the time and energy. College have opened many doors for people who went to
college and graduated than the ones that did not. The ones who already experienced college report
how the experience helped them shape themselves. They also claim that their college experience made
them confront many different challenges that they later again experienced in the real world . Even
though some individuals think that college is not a coming of age experience, it has been proven that
college is an important coming of age experience because it makes students realize some of life s
obstacles and help them prepare for their future journey called life.
College is an important coming of age experience because young adults confront some of life s
challenges earlier. Mrs. Henderson, a former teacher at Desert Pines High School, spoke how college
was a challenging event in her life, but that the benefits will show at the end (Henderson). Mrs.
Henderson also explained how college made her feel much more confident in herself when she
showed up for job interviews (Henderson). College has helped many overcome their insecurities and
worries about becoming an independent adult, a challenge that they probably will face in their life.
College also helps young adults become more open minded about their surroundings and the
advantages that life provides them. In the passage, My

Throughout the movie the music composition in each scene makes the audience feel the atmospheric

merging the idea of gravity and time approach to it. Furthermore, Lowder also tells, Zimmer excels

  • 3. Persuasive Essay About Cheerleading According to the article Cheerleading Most Dangerous Sport for Females Andy Soltis states, Cheerleading is by far the most dangerous role for female athletes...the study of junior and senior high school cheerleaders found that 37 percent had symptoms of a concussion but failed to report them, and soon enough I would begin my cheerleading career. Little did I know I would lose something I couldn t get back, yet this would be my best mistake. My cheerleading career began in the seventh grade when I tried out for the Meadow Glen Middle School cheer team. The year I tried out Meadow Glen was a new school, so I did not know the cheer coach, most of the people at tryouts, or how difficult the tryout process was going to be. Trying out for the team and taking this risk was a step out of my comfort zone. Eventually the first day of tryouts rolled around and I was ready. I went through the process with confidence and a smile on my face. Every other day of tryouts went by fast and the final day had come. After tryouts were over, I went home to wait for the time the results were going to be posted. Nervously I came back to Meadow Glen when the results of the girls who made the team were posted and I saw my name on the list! My face gleamed with joy. Both of my two friends made the team as well and I was so thrilled for the year to come. My first year as a cheerleader was all I expected it to be. We were not a competition team because we were a first year school but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout The Course Of One’S Academic And Introduction Throughout the course of one s academic and professional career, one will be required to create, present, and receive needed information via numerous presentations which utilize slide deck software such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, and Apple s Keynote. In this project, I will discuss the effective use of these applications to create presentations which effectively utilize elements of visual design to effectively communicate with an audience. My interest in this topic comes from my experience as both a student and a professional. In these capacities, I have regularly experience both the audience and the presenter side of slide shows and I have seen how this method of disseminating information can both excite and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Technology has given anyone with basic computer knowledge the ability to create multimodal blended structure slide decks, and then distribute this media throughout the internet. I utilized The Non Designer s Design Book because it emphasizes the four basic principles of good visual design, which can easily be applied to create slide based presentations. These four principles include contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity. The proper implementation of the principles are key to the creation of an effective slideshow presentation. Another influential reading from our course which I am able to apply to my project is Visual Language for Designers. The main points I take from this reading, which are applicable to this project are the idea of minimalism in a low fidelity visual and the idea of reducing the quantity of elements in a visual. For this project, I also utilized other sources which dealt directly with the effective use of visual in presentations. One valuable project resource was a 2014 TEDx talk given by David JP Phillips entitle How to Avoid Death by PowerPoint. The main points taken from this source include the limitation of one topic per slide, the importance of the size of visuals in presentations, the ability to capture the attention of an audience with the effective use of ... • 8. Methyl Orange Synthesis Lab Report Experiment 11B consisted of synthesizing methyl orange, a synthetic dye, and testing this dye s coloring quality and effectiveness as a pH indicator. Methyl orange is an acid base indicator. In a pH of greater than 4.4, it becomes a yellow solution with a negatively charged sulfonate ion. When submerged into a solution with a pH less than 3.2, the dipolar red ion (helianthin) predominates. Methyl orange is a type of azo dye, which is commonly found in food, fabric, paint, and other brightly colored products. The general structure consists of the N5N functional group sandwiched between two aromatic species. Azo dyes are brightly colored because of their extensive conjugated system which gives rise to a strong chromophore. The exact color depends on both the nature of the aromatic group and the substituents. Methyl orange is synthesized through an azo coupling reaction between a diazonium ion and N,N dimethylaniline. An electrophilic aromatic substitution causes the positively charged diazonium ion to act as the electrophilic species. In the first step of azo coupling the diazonium intermediate is synthesized. This process is called diazonation, in which the diazonium intermediate is formed by the reaction between sulfanilic acid (an aromatic amine) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. Is The Holocaust A Collective Memory By Peter Novick The Holocaust as a Collective Memory In Peter Novick s Is the Holocaust An American Memory? , Novick successfully defines ways that collective memories develop, eventually concluding that the Holocaust was not a collective memory. In his argument, he gives three different definitions of a collective memory. He then explains how Americans do not meet these definitions based on geographical location, and not experiencing it first hand. Even though he was arguing against the majority of Americans being directly tied to the Holocaust, he was careful to add that it does not mean all Americans were not. In explaining a collective memory as someone having direct contact with the event as a witness, he adds, In postwar America, the total of those recent immigrants who fell into any of these categories was some small fraction of one percent of the population (Novick, 5). This is important to include, as if he did not, it may offend people. His argument still stands, as he said is was merely one percent of the population. This could also be another example of overturning any counterarguments that may come up. If he had not mentioned that one percent of the population, his argument would have been weak. It would have been very easy to contradict that statement otherwise. In mentioning that part, even though it seemed insignificant, I believe it saved his whole argument. This piece by Novick was an overall cohesive, convincing, and respectful piece about the Holocaust. In proving his point, he added additional ethos by abolishing counterarguments and recognizing that this does not include every American. These things greatly added to the success of this piece overall and made it more enjoyable to read. This was an old little village, the houses were nothing but ash and rubble except an old abandoned barn. The barn had creaking floor boards and a rotten wooden roof. In this abandoned barn there lived a young and confident farm boy; his clothes were ragged and full of holes. The young boy was called Rye named after the agricultural god Ren Rye. In the film The Return of Martin Guerre, the people lived on a pre modern society. They lived in a agricultural society and this was shown by many reasons. First they had permanent homes and used animals as well as tools to work their crops. They also used a crop rotation instead of burning the land. This is just a basic outline of the society that Martin lived in. Looking deeper into their social structure their society was much different than a modern one. Going onto our modern society there is a clear contrast but some similarities between now and the premodern society. First, looking at the type of society we live in it is considered a information society. Unlike agricultural, which was based off of growing crops and creating a food surplus, we create and store information. We divide our labor like the ag. society but it is highly specialized work. People in an information society also have a permanent settlement, instead of living in a village we live in suburban residences outside of large cities. Included in this is commuting for work which means people now have to travel farther distances to work. The main social focus is based off of consumption not production like agricultural. Well, online ads and television advertisements make it feel like I do. That if I don t have them then I am missing out or I can only be happy if I get this product or service. So now I become addicted to consuming products and services in the pursuit of an artificial happiness. Consumerism is ruining me with its illusion of bringing happiness and the ideas of acceptance from my peers. But it is not just that alone that it can ruin. Consumerism can ruin how relationships are viewed, how a young girl or young boy can view their own bodies and left us all craving something that we honestly don t need. So I want to talk about the different ways that consumerism is ruining us and the first hand experiences I have had with it. Consumerism is basically the act of encouraging consumers to buy products and services, which is seen a lot in today s day and age. Companies will spend large sums of money marketing a product to consumers like me. They make it seem like I need this product because it will bring me happiness or love or social acceptance. Examining Effectiveness of Treatment Strategies Used With Survivors of Rape Therapy for survivors of rape is often difficult to obtain. The lack of availability of counselors who specialize in specific trauma treatments, like prolonged exposure and cognitive processing therapy, as well as lack of insurance and location, are hardships for treatment seeking individuals. Therefore, it is important to pinpoint the most effective treatments for those who have suffered the trauma of rape. The purpose of this research is to outline the most effective, lasting, and current treatments used to treat female survivors of sexual assault. Modern treatments for rape trauma syndrome include cognitive, behavioral, and exposure components. The specific protocols of cognitive processing therapy and prolonged exposure have both been demonstrated to be effective in treating posttraumatic stress disorder and common comorbid disorders, like depression, anxiety, guilt, and anger (Resick, Williams, Suvak, Monson, Gradus, 2012, p. 202). His speech outlined the past oppression of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who had to endure pain and suffering. Children were forcibly removed from their families. Mr Rudd opened his speech in parliament with the words We honour the Indigenous peoples of this land, the oldest continuing cultures in human history (2012). It is true that Mr Rudd took the first step in reconciliation however he has not progressed as far as hoped. There has been little compensation made to the stolen generation. Especially due to the inconceivable horrors that were enacted against the Stolen Generations. Kevin Rudd s speech was eloquent and lengthy (2012). Marie s behavior may be perceived as she is rebellion toward her son, but I believe she is trying to maintain only independence she has left, being able to walk. As Quadagno explained personality influences the way an individual adapts to changes associated with normal aging. (Quadagno, 2013, pg. 169) In my opinion, Marie s character portrayed a strongly proud woman who resisted losing independence. The Movie, Redwood Highway, showed two stereotypes of aging from the Quadagno s Aging and the life course: An introduction to social gerontology book. First, most retirees are lonely and depressed. Second, the aged are isolated from family members. (Quadagno, 2013, pg. 14) Marie believes she is thrown in an old people s home by her son, Michael who treats her as she is incapable of making decisions and alienated from her family that made her unhappy with her circumstances.
