Essay about The Gay and Lesbian Community in the Y...
The Gay and Lesbian Community in the Y Generation
As the Y Generation continues to expand its horizons, new trends of tolerance are beginning to shine
through. The gay and lesbian community is more readily embraced by today s generation than by
generations in America s past. More and more people are coming out than ever before, which proves
that the gay and lesbian community is gaining acceptance and their rights to equality are slowing
increasing, but discrimination is still there. Even though gays and lesbians are more accepted amongst
the Y Generation, hate and misunderstanding still exist.
There are many misconceptions about the gay and lesbian community, which occur for the most part
because society doesn t take the time to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gabriel Rotello in his article Calling All Parents, underscores this need for parental love by stating that
almost all lesbian and gay teens go through a terrible, lonely stage when they feel they have no one to
turn to, not even their own family members sometimes especially not their own family members. It s a
phase that can leave lasting psychological damage even to the vast majority who survive it (112). Gay
children are at extremely high risk for anxiety, confusion, despair, and, yes, some even contemplate
suicide. In fact, according to a recent study published in the May 1999 issue of Archives of Pediatrics
Adolescent Medicine, gay and lesbian youth were 3.4 times as likely to have attempted suicide than
straight youth. (487)
Can the media play a part to alert parents of gay children to express their love and acceptance before it
is too late? We see and hear campaigns about drugs and smoking, but what about homosexuality?
Rotello took the plunge and created an ad campaign that warns, Millions of American kids are gay and
at risk. So talk to your children and let them know you love them, no matter how they choose to love.
(112) The more exposure this sensitive issue receives in the media, the better off families with gay
members will be.
On another note, the gay and lesbian community is gaining more acceptance in the entertainment
industry. Entertainment is something that pertains to every

Sociological Concepts Of Family, Gender, And Identity Essay
This essay discusses the way in which I understand the sociological concepts of family, gender and
race nuclear family, doing gender, and identity, in particular. Arguably, these three concepts can relate
to each individuals life, through different personal experiences. To demonstrate my argument, I
highlight relevant situations in my own life that further explain my chosen sociological concepts.
The first concept I chose to focus on is family. In particular, the idea of the nuclear family .
A nuclear family is defined as: A couple and their dependent children, regarded as a basic social unit.
My research of this concept will focus on the theories of two sociologists George Peter Murdock, and
Talcott Parsons. George Murdock s theory suggests that there are four essential functions of an ideal
family. 1. Stable satisfaction of the sex drive, 2. The biological reproduction of the next generation, 3.
Socialisation of the young, 4. Meeting its members economic needs (Thompson, 2014). According to
Murdock, these four components are what keep the structure of the basic family unit intact, and by
achieving these four functions create an ideal family model. An opposing theory is Talcott Parson s
functional fit theory. Parson suggests that as society evolves, alternative forms of family life become
more accepted. Society has progressed so much that single parents providing for their children is as
normal as a nuclear family, and there tends to be less need for extended

Snows Of Kilimanjaro Analysis
Angelica Sawan Professor North October 23, 2017 SLD Packet 2 Summary: The Snows of
Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway is a tale of a man named Harry and his Wife Helen who are on a
safari trip, and while on it Harry catches gangrene because he doesn t put ointment on a cut he
received from a thorn while taking a photo of a water buck. Throughout the story Harry is a Negative
Nancy, arguing with his wife and being blunt about how he is going to die before a rescue team can
get to them. For example, Harry and Helen argue about whether he should drink a whisky and soda,
whether she should read to him, and about how he is going to die. Harry thinks about his life
experiences a lot in this short story, about how he hasn t lived up to his potential as a writer because he
has a tendency to marry rich women. Harry also goes in and out of consciousness while remembering
his life adventures. His wife Helen does care for Harry and she does enjoy his writing, but she is
obviously concerned about his health and his self pity irritates her. Harry mentions that Helen is really
a good wife and does not keep him as a proud possession and how she doesn t neglect his true talent,
which is writing. We also find out that Helen is a widow who was bored of the lovers before Harry
and they married because of her enjoyment of his writing and how they have similar interests. At the
end of the story Helen wakes up because of a loud hyena call, she takes a flashlight and shines it on
Harry s bed which she moved into their tent earlier that night. She sees him under the mosquito net
with his leg hanging off of the cot and notices that Harry is dead. The hyena cries again but Helen can
t hear it over her heart breaking. Formal: Tender Buttons by Gertrude Stein is a collection of writings
about ordinary objects, and is divided into objects, food, and rooms. She uses random objects with
random adjectives, and she uses language to direct the mind and force the reader to connect nouns
with unsuspecting adjectives to make you look at the world in a new way. It s a pros poem, it s a
cubist poem. She tries to break apart logic. The theme is giving new meaning to ordinary objects, she
wants us to think, she uses a lot of literary devices.

Theme Of Music In Fantasia 3
Program music is music that is intended to evoke images or convey the impression of events. From the
music, a story was developed to be in Fantasia 3. The characters in the story are hundreds of trolls
along with one tiny fox. It is set in a deep dark, enchanted forest during night time. The key is
B♭minor which the minor sound creates a scary and dark mood. This key had been associated with
words such as obscure and gloomy and has also been associated with the image or mood of night
time.. Right as the song starts it begins forte. This grabs the audience s attention straight away and
scares the audience just like the trolls do to the fox. The dynamic portrays the dominant, scary nature
of the trolls right from the first beat. This is also is goes hand in hand with the timbre. The song begins
with a large group of strings and woodwind instruments playing, depicting all of the trees. They used
lower sounding instruments, such as the bassoon and clarinet, to create a dark and scary sound. This
allows for a fuller sound further allowing them to create scary, gloomy and intimidating atmosphere.
The tempo is andante, an easy walking pace, which is fairly slow. However, having this tempo allows
the portrayal of the trees to be large, heavy and slow moving. The melody itself has many rests in
between the melody patterns. This helps depict the trolls being so stiff as they change from tree to
troll, suggesting that they have been a tree for too long. This is also supported by the

The Discovery Of The Tomb Of King Tutankhamun
The discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamun has answered many questions and solved many
mysteries about the life of people in Ancient Egypt. However, the life and death of the boy king is still
a mystery itself. For example, one continual argument and mystery is how King Tut died. Although
there are many opposing theories, King Tutankhamen died because he was already weak from genetic
diseases, then broke his leg, which got infected and caused King Tut to die.
King Tutankhamun was an Egyptian pharaoh that had an early death. He was born circa 1341 B.C.E.
and was the 12th pharaoh of the 18th dynasty (King Tut Biography). His main impact on Egypt was
restoring the main polytheistic religion of Ancient Egypt (King Tut Biography). His father, Akhenaten,
whose name translates to he who works for Aten, wanted Egypt to become monotheistic (King Tut
Biography). He wanted all of Egypt to only worship Aten, instead of the pantheon of gods they had
previously worshipped (King Tut Biography). Egyptian society went into chaos and Akhenaton was
probably forced to abdicate the throne. (King Tut Biography). When Tutankhamun was born, he was
originally called Tutankhaten, meaning living image of Aten, but he eventually changed his name to
Tutankhamun, meaning the living image of Amun (Meaning of Akhenaten and King Tut Biography).
Converting Egypt to polytheism was the main impact of King Tutankhamen in Egypt. King
Tutankhamun came to power in Egypt very young. He probably became

of Sydney, comprises of seven parks that lie adjacent to Shrimptons Creek. The creek is approximately
3.3 kilometres in length, flowing in a north south direction through the suburbs of Denistone East,
Ryde and Macquarie Park. It is part of the Macquarie Park Catchment which flows through Lane Cove
National Park into Lane Cove River. The park s surroundings consists of low to medium density

The fauna includes small mammals such as possums, and a variety of land and water birds. The
topography of the parklands are fairly level, with steep grounds only near the embankments. The
facilities in the park include playgrounds, barbecues, toilets, bubblers and car parks, although the
majority are not in the best condition. There are also pedestrian and cycle paths throughout the
parklands. The parklands are fairly accessible when walking to the location, however if one plans to
drive to the park, there are only car parks in the two major parks (Santa Rosa Park ELS Hall Park).
There are several bus routes that pass through the area (518, 507, 286, 288, 290, 292, 297), however,
some of which do not come frequently, and only operating during peak hours or once an hour. Over
the recent years the demand on the parklands have increased, becoming more central to the local
community. As a result, this corridor of parkland needs to be maintained and appreciated as a natural
area with safe recreational access, and the importance of the creek line should be recognised as both
an environmental and recreational area, central to the City of Ryde. The aim of the fieldwork was to
investigate the management and maintenance of Shrimptons Creek Parklands for encouraged use from
the local community. The investigation would focus on the purpose/use of the parklands by the general
population, the accessibility of the parklands and the environmental

Outline Of Different Cultural Beliefs
For example, Buddhists believe their souls after death either are put back into the life cycle or they
reach Nirvana. This can convince a Buddhist family to find reassurance in knowing their loved one
has a chance of reaching a sacred place. The practices religions take on in the remembrance of their
loved one can also change the steps of grief. Most of the religions listed in An Outline of Different
Cultural Beliefs shows each religion has their own way of holding some type of ceremony where they
pray, sing, or tell stories of the deceased. In those same religions, family and friends also gather to
celebrate birthdays and holidays with or for the deceased. Holding these celebrations can cause the
family and friends to not feel the acceptance of their death and still feel anger, depression, or denial in
their heart. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In each culture there are right and wrong ways to express emotions. This is similar to how different
cultures greet each other. For example, in the United States it is very common to see a greeting
through a handshake, while in France they usually shake hands then kiss each other on each cheek.
Therefore, when looking at the rights and wrongs of expressing grief, it is just as diverse as greetings
from culture to culture ( Cultural Greetings 1). For instance, in areas of Britain, it is common to not
express one s anger. Instead, the person should keep all of their emotions hidden, but this can cause a
large build up of emotions, naturally causing a person to be stuck or take longer to get out of steps of
anger, fear, or depression. ( The Kübler Ross Grief Cycle

Gaius Julius Caesar Analysis
The Things Which are Caesar s
Gaius Julius Caesar was a military commander, a Roman consul, and Dictator of Ancient Rome. His
military victories, cult of personality, and influence on Roman life brought him respect in Rome.
Cicero, an orator of the era, confirmed Cesar s accounts of his role during the civil war. In
representing his own role in the Roman Civil War, Julius Caesar sketches a picture of his influence on
his contemporaries that rings true when compared to Cicero s documentation of the same period.
Though Caesar praises himself while Cicero scorns him, a consistent picture of Caesar s influence
emerges from a close reading of the two authors: he instilled fear in the hearts of Roman Senators and
inspired loyalty in Roman Citizens.
In Caesar s account in The Civil War, he presents the Roman Senators persecuting him as
unreasonable and himself as justified, a contrast to Cicero s personal criticisms of the commander.
Caesar states that the Senate is punishing him for his moderate demands (pg. 37). Caesar accounts that
the Roman Senate refuses to dismantle Pompey s army, in addition, he states that the Roman Senate is
using unnecessary measures against him, as he recounts, ...harsh measures were advocated; and the
more savage and vindictive the speaker, the more he was applauded by Caesar s enemies (pg.36 40).
This account paints Caesar s opponents as harboring a vendetta which will result in destruction for
Rome. Caesar portrays the Senate s persecution

Ester Synthesis Lab Report
The synthesis of an ester using Fisher esterification by reacting acetic acid with an unknown alcohol
was performed. Fisher esterification is a reaction that produces ester by refluxing a carboxylic acid
and an alcohol in presence of an acid catalyst. In this experiment, the carboxylic acid is acetic acid,
and the alcohol is unknown. The product has a banana like smell, which was most likely to be pentyl
acetate, 2 pentyl acetate, or isopentyl acetate. The IR spectroscopy was performed on the alcohol and
the product in order to confirm the synthesis of ester. Three distinct signals were observed on alcohol
IR spectrum. A broad signal was observed between 3500 3200cm 1 indicates O H functional group.

4 distinct signals and two overlapping signals were observed on the spectrum. From left to right, the
first signal labeled as B is a multiplet at 4.8ppm since it is next to the ester group, has 5 neighbors, is
the most deshielded proton. Therefore, the ester can be either 2 pentylacetate or 1, 3 dimethylbutyl
acetate. Since it has the banana like smell, the ester would most likely be 2 pentylacetate. Other
signals would further confirm the identity of the synthesized ester. The signals labeled as A at
2.01ppm should be a singlet since it is next the ester group and has no neighbor. Two overlapping
signals labeled as D E have 3 and 5 neighbors, respectively. The signals are multiplet overlapping each
other between 1.6 to 1.30 ppm. A doublet was seen in the spectrum at 1.18ppm labeled as C since the
protons are on the carbon that attached to the tertiary carbon, which locates next to the ester group
labeled as B and has one proton. Lastly, a triplet labeled F was seen at 0.90ppm, which is the most
shielded since it locates the furthest from the electronegative ester group. These signals confirm that
ester product is indeed 2 pentyl acetate. Since 2 pentyl acetate was confirmed to be the synthesized
ester, the starting alcohol must be

Descartes And Spinoza On Nature Of God
When it comes to life s unanswerable questions, philosophers have always been prepared to provide
possible explanations on what they believe and try to further discuss difficult topics. This is certainly
the case when it comes to Descartes and Spinoza, who are both adamant that their views provide the
correct context and insight on their opinions of God. In Readings in Modern Philosophy by Ariew and
Watkins, it is revealed that while both philosophers tend to agree on opinions like God being infinite,
there are many reasons why Descartes and Spinoza disagree on the nature of God and their opinion of
substance, for example, Descartes believes that there is more than one type of substance, while
Spinoza argues that God is the only substance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This goes back to the idea of God being infinite because he acknowledges that a substance like God
will always persist regardless of if anyone was there to think him into existence. In addition, the view
that God is a morally good and just substance plays a significant role in Descartes beliefs, without it,
many of his ideas wouldn t be as secure, such as his beliefs of physical objects, he explains this when
he states, Now there clearly is in me a passive faculty of sensing, that is, a faculty for receiving and
knowing the ideas of sensible things; but I could not use it unless there also existed, either in me or in
something else, a certain active faculty of producing or bringing about these ideas... (RMP, 51). This is
one way that Descartes argues that the nature of God is supremely good. It shows that Descartes doesn
t think that God is a deceiver, this is important because it revelas how he views God s nature, as an
inherently good because he explains that if we are deceived by God then he must not be real because
God is not a deceiver.
Alternatively, Spinoza s ideas of the nature of God differ greatly. To begin, Spinoza views God as the
only infinite substance that has an infinite amount of distinct attributes. He believes that God exists
necessarily and that created substances are nonexistent. He defines substance by stating, Substance
which we understand to be through itself supremely perfect and in which nothing can be

Why Did The Aztecs Exist
The Aztecs are one of the best known yet one of the briefer civilizations in the Pre Columbian era. The
phrase Aztec refers to the Nahuatl speaking occupants of the Valley of Mexico or the Mexica people
of Tenochtitlan. The Aztecs originated from a place known as Aztlan. Despite contrasting opinion of
whether Aztlan exists or not, the Aztecs were said to have come from the north. Their journey to the
Valley of Mexico was shared with various other tribes. Each group arrived at different times and the
Mexica people, the Aztecs, were the last to arrive. As a result, they settled in the land others did not
want. Conflict and tension forced the group to flee from two pieces of land to what would later be

There were those who ruled, nobles, and those who were ruled, commoners. The nobles made up
approximately five percent of the Aztecs and the commoners were the bulk of the population. Despite
the wide population gap between the two groups, the commoners were still obligated to serve the
nobles. In the highest position of power was the tlatoani, ruler of a city state. The high lords, tetecutin,
who were in control over certain areas were next in line. Below the tetecutin, there were pipiltin, or
nobles, who were the offspring of the tlatoani and the tetecutin that could hold positions in
government. The commoners were separated into three tiers: macehualli, the free commoners,
mayeque, commoners that worked on a noble s land, and tlacotin, slaves. There were also pochteca,
merchants, that were above the commoners.
How social classes divided the population, so did the education system. Commoners and nobles went
to separate schools. The telpochcalli was the school for commoners. The students were taught dancing
and singing for rituals, history and religion, but the main focus for the boys was military training. The
calmecac was the school for the nobles and promising commoners. This school trained the students for
roles in government, priesthood and the military. Students were taught the calendar, writing, reading

The U5MR is a good health indicator because it is less susceptible to fallacy than other indicators such
as gross national income per capita because even if families differ in a income by 1000 fold, their
child will not have 1000 fold difference in survival (UNICEF, n.d.). Estimating U5MR through
country wide household surveys (Such as the DHS) revealed the underestimation of child mortality
obtained from census data (UNICEF, n.d.). Thus, the U5MR is a solid indicator of health, and is best
measured through personal surveys.
The United Nations set quantitative sustainable development goals to reduce child mortality by 2030.
The UN proposes ending all preventable deaths of newborns, and achieving a neonatal mortality rate
of at or below 12 per 1000 live births, and an Under five mortality of 25 per 1000 live births (Health
United Nations Sustainable Development, n.d.). For some countries in Sub Saharan Africa, reaching
this goal will require more than halving their current child mortality rate.
Risk Factors for Child Mortality In 99 low and middle income countries surveyed, under five
mortality was twice as high in the poorest households when compared with the wealthiest households,
thus the burden of child death is greater for poorer families (UN IGME, 2017). A study using pooled
DHS data from multiple countries found that variables most highly correlated with under five
mortality at the national level, ranked in descending order, included; income,

Philosophy And The Modern Philosophy
Upon talking about the history of modern philosophy, one of the most important philosophers, who is
considered as the father of the philosophy in this period, is Descartes. He was a pioneer for the
movement of the new trend of philosophy and became a break between the medieval philosophy and
the modern philosophy. Being educated in the environment of medieval philosophy, specifically in the
school of Jesuits, Descartes received the system of scholastic philosophy as his foundation for making
a new start into the history of philosophy. In his life, Descartes tried to establish a system of
philosophy which was suitable to the development of society and science. To do that, he did not
collapse pre philosophical systems, but somehow he ignored their values. In his Meditations he says
Once in my life I had to raze everything to the ground and begin again from the original foundations,
if I wanted to establish anything firm and lasting in the sciences. Therefore, he just could begin a new
system of philosophy which, he thought, would be a certain and firm foundation to get knowledge.
However, to build up the principles for this foundation, Descartes had to use the concept of God in his
arguments. The existence of God became an important means for the construction of his new
philosophical system. Hence, I will emphasize on the importance of God in this paper by discovering
the role of God as a means in Descartes main points of reasoning, particularly God with the method of

II. Introduction
Across the globe, the primary universal language that is accepted in English. To communicate
effectively and interact in corporate and industrial environment at international level, an effective hold
of language is must especially from students in colleges as they represent the future. But, there are
very few countries in the world which have English as their first language. Therefore a level of
difficulty arises for non native speakers of English to adjust in the international standards of the
language. Also, countries which do not have English as their first language struggle with the accent
and dialect of their individuals where culture becomes an important factor in the use of Universal
language English especially with use of slang words. This is an era of modernization and social media,
internet communication plays an important role in exposure to the western culture in other countries of
the world.
Relevance of the Research
The relevance of this research helps in analysing the formal and slang usage of English by Southeast
Asian students from exposure to western culture through different means of communication. This
study will help the researcher to understand different English colloquialisms inherited by college

Fashion Imagery Research Paper
We have expressions which refer to the idea that we may experience time as subjectively happening at
different speeds. For example, A watched pot never boils. But, we generally take the view that,
objectively, an hour is an hour is an hour and all things move forward at the same pace.
Yet, in fiction, time passing at different rates is a relatively common concept. Perhaps this intrigues us
because of real world experiences which fit that concept in some sense.
When you look at signs and symbols, a common phenomenon is that imagery initially comes from real
world items in a relatively literal manner but, over time, the symbols are kept even though technology

Military Strategy and Planning
Part 1 Military theory after World War II drastically changed for two major reasons: the dropping of
Atomic weapons on Japan and what would become known as the Cold War between the USSR and the
West. Foreign policy, which became military policy, starting in 1947 is known as the Truman
Doctrine. This began with U.S. support of Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to
prevent those countries from falling under Soviet influence. The policy was written as a response to
the events that took place in the Eastern European Theater after World War II. The Soviet Union
coopted much of Eastern Europe, ½ of Germany, ½ of Berlin, and believed they needed an even
greater buffer zone to protect Russia from the West. Greece and Turkey were logical extensions of this

My Last Day In High School
It was a Thursday night in the middle of March, as I pull into the school parking lot. I can see that
there are mounds of suitcases and over stuffed duffle bags lined up on the faint lit sidewalks. I jumped
out of the car with eagerness when I saw my friends waiting for me by the curb line. We leap with joy
because; we knew that this was going to be one of the best trips of our final year in high school. The
trip meant so much to us; we needed to be away from stress filled environment that is known as
school.
Before we left the school we needed to get our check off lists completed. My bag is checked by the
parental security, to ensure that I m not bringing unneeded items onto the school provided trip. After
that I rushed to grab my obnoxious hefty garment bag, sticky tan buckled shoes, and my make up
paraphernalia. I look into each of the items to ensure every single piece I needed is in order, so I can
be ready to board the buses. The garment bag contains the Earth sparkled dress, leotard, and shredded
tights, with a few mystery items. The shoes need to have more stickiness for the next wear, so I placed
a bulky roll of duct tape in the bottom of the bag along with the shoes. The make up kit had plenty of
sparkles spilled everywhere, along with the eye lash extensions that should have been washed two or
three performances ago. The hair accessories for the performance were also included into the
overloaded kit of supplies.
I rushed back outside from the back stage doors;

Pathophysiology Of Psoriasis
Psoriasis is one of the most common chronic inflammatory skin diseases, found in about 1 3% of the
world general population (Szepietowski and Reich 2016).
The pathogenesis of psoriasis is still not fully elucidated. However, it is supposed that psoriasis is an
immunological disease with a strong genetic background which is influenced by some environmental
triggers, like infections (mainly streptococci), drugs (e.g. lithium, beta blockers), emotional stress and
smoking. All these parameters lead in predisposed individuals to cutaneous inflammation, accelerated
turnover and hyperproliferation of keratinocytes which are all important for skin lesion development
(Boehncke and Schön, 2015).
Psoriasis may occur at any age, but usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These substances show a number of immunomodulatory properties like activation of dendritic cells,
lymphocytes, macrophages and neutrophils, stimulation of keratinocyte hyperproliferation,
degranulation of dermal mast cells, stimulation of angiogenesis and modulation of the expression of
adhesion molecules on the endothelial cells (Saraceno et al., 2006).
Treatment of pruritus in patients with psoriasis should be directed towards the resolution of skin
lesions, as disease remission usually is linked with pruritus relief. To date there is no single antipruritic
therapy dedicated specifically to treating itch in psoriasis (Szepietowski and Reich 2016).
Usually, some relief is provided by proper skin moisturizing with emollients and moisturizers;
however, only a minority of psoriatic patients (less than 20%) considered them as highly effective

Primates Monkeys
The first true evolution of primates goes all the way back to 55 million years ago.. Primates descend in
two orders, Stepsirrhini and Haplorrhini. The Stepsirhines were the first of the suborders to unfold.
That term is identical with prosimians. Prosimians are defined as a pre monkey in
Latin(anthro.palomar.edu). Evidence was not shown until the 20th century of prosimians evolving

Predators are always out on the prowl for other animals. Lemurs have a few predators. The first
predator is the Fossa. The fossa is a type cat like mammal that is related to the mongoose. The search
of a lemur by a fossa keeps increasing due to the decrease of resources animals can find in
Madagascar. A Harrier hawk is another predator that lemurs should always be watching out for. A
Harrier Hawk swoops in at night and grabs young Lemurs directly off their mother s back.Even trees
cannot completely hide the Lemur from the Harrier Hawk s great eyesight. Other predators are
Madagascar buzzards, ground boas, civets, and domestic cats and dogs. The most shocking news that
Lemurs face as a dangerous predator are humans. Humans are the major cause for different species of
Lemurs being endangered. Some villagers kill Lemurs because they are said to be a bad omen. Then
we have humans that keep endangering Lemurs by deforestation. Lemurs are known to leap far

This is the top leading reason Lemurs today are extinct and

Reflection About Relationships
In the two years we have been together, my boyfriend, Andy, and I never talked about what we
considered cheating to be. This past July, I found out that he had spent the night in his car with one of
my closests friends, and his ex girlfriend. I had told him in the past that I was not comfortable with
him being out with a girl late at night, but never fully elaborated on it. Realizing that he had done
something I wasn t comfortable with, he told me he was up late playing Halo, and kept his outing from
me for almost a month. Since we had never laid our boundaries, there were no boundaries to break.
Personally, I view cheating as doing something you would not tell your significant other about, but he
sees it as having intimate relations with someone other than your significant other. He saw it as him
doing something wrong and apologized for it, but felt that it was nowhere near cheating. Our
disagreement stems from the differences between our beliefs and expectations for each other.
In our relationship, my boyfriend had never done anything for me to lack a sense of trust. He let me
know where he was, even when I did not want to know, and always tried his best to keep in contact
with me. When it came to me spending time with the opposite sex, he was always comfortable with
the idea which is why he thought I felt the same. He had complete trust in me and never minded the
time or the place. Growing up, his father had an intimate relationship with another woman, so to him,

Cortical Dementia
There are categories of brain dementia, which are cortical and subcortical. Subcortical dementia is
marked by motor disruption. An example of subcortical dementia would be parkinson s disease. On
the other hand, Alzheimer s is an example of cortical dementia, which as previously established is
marked by memory loss. Although Alzheimer s is classified as cortical dementia, it eventually
destroys cells in all four lobes of the brain thus resulting in motor disruption as well. The ventricles,
the fluid filled spaces in the brain begin to enlarge as the disease develops. The symptoms of memory
loss and impaired cognitive functioning in Alzheimer s disease can be attributed to damage in the

The Common Internet File System
8. Data Storage Techniques
8.1 CIFS
The Common Internet File system (CIFS) is a native file sharing protocol used by computer users
across corporate intranets and Internet. It defines series of commands to pass the information between
the networked computers. CIFS implements the client/server programming model. A client program
sends a request to server program for access to a file or to pass a message to a program that runs in the
server computer, the server then takes the requested action and gives a response.
CIFS Functions are:
● Get access to files that are local to the server and read and write to them
● Share files with other clients using special locks
● Restore connections automatically in case of network failure.
● Unicode file names
Similar to SMB protocol, CIFS implements the Internet s TCP/IP protocol. CIFS can be considered as
supplement of existing Internet application protocols such as the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) and the
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
Common Internet File System runs as an application layer network protocol used for providing shared
access to files, printers, serial ports, and miscellaneous communications between nodes on a network.
It also facilitates an authenticated inter process communication mechanism.

Symbols And Metaphors Of Oedipus The King
The story of Oedipus the King have many symbols and metaphors that can be interpreted differently
from person to person. There are many metaphors that are used as symbols in Oedipus the King,
which includes sight and blindness, self affliction, and the three way crossroad. These are the three
main symbols that were used in the story, and sight means knowledge, self affliction stems from a
sense of guilt, and the three way crossroad stands for decisions.
The symbol of vision is a big component of the story of Oedipus. There are several situations where
vision is presented in this story and it is a symbol of knowledge. The blind man that told Oedipus that
he would kill his father had knowledge about something that Oedipus did not. Although the blind man
could not visually see, he had knowledge that allowed him to see Oedipus future through a prophecy.
Oedipus had the ability to see and was warned by others and did not take the advice that was offered
by others. As a result, he cut his eyes out because of the awful things that he did.
The use of blindness and sight was a symbol that was used throughout the story. Some of the
characters lacked the ability to see, but they had the knowledge instead. Although Tiresias was blind,
he could see more about reality than most of the other characters. He was compensated for being blind
with his gift of prophecy. Oedipus has excellent vision, but is blind to the truth because he does not

Gawain exhibits a lot of bravery where he opts to face the Green Knight after everybody else declines.

his blow as agreed. At the time when the Green Knight delivers his blow, he teases Sir Gawain where
he shows his bravery by asking the Green Knight to deliver the blow. The blow causes a minor injury

most cases, these individuals were put to death.

to traveling for a nice desirable vacation is easier to gain. Unfortunately, behind the extravagance of
traveling, privacy is retained from those who experience traveling on vacation. Privacy is the
confidentiality of information. Only the person who owns it can decide to distribute that information.

ABSTRACT
Designing and embedding a watermark for VoIP is the main goal of this paper, A new model is
introduced and characterized by high robustness, high security and must be non perceptual. The
watermarking model is suitable for real time service and supports the needs of embedding the
watermark into the traffic of VoIP and its extraction additionally this model offers authentication and
integrity. The model based on digital watermarking and steganography. Another factor was taken in
consideration; the amount of data used and its influence on the voice quality of service. the model is
implemented using C# code for both embedding and extracting the watermarking spite of the intended
cheating mechanisms that might complicate the send/receive conditions. In addition, the model
performance has confirmed its robustness and quality of service.

1. INTRODUCTION
In TCP/IP networks VoIP, which is a real time service, uses RTP (Real Time Protocol) with UDP (User
Datagram Protocol) for transport of digital streams. Currently there is one control protocol for RTP
and it is RTCP (Real Time Control Protocol) [1].
Steganography and Digital Watermarking are Information Hiding sub disciplines. The

Parapsychic Abilities Research Paper
If I could pick one superhuman ability, I would pick the ability to be parapsychic. Having psychic
abilities does it all: psychokinesis, telepathy, clairvoyance and precognition.
I would have endless, infinite knowledge. I would be able to breach human conscience and delve deep
into the pits of human thinking. I could harbour the entirety of human intelligence into my own little
mind. Maybe this foreshadows imminent doom. But I cannot help but be tempted by all these what ifs
. What if I knew all the most powerful secrets of the world? What if I could move human
relationships, for better or for worse, with just a single word?
People say knowledge is power but with great power comes greater responsibility. I could stop wars
with this ability, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would hold the lives of billions in my hands, and I could crush those lives with the slightest twitch.
That sheer power is so distant, it is almost unimaginable. For to have all the knowledge of the world
would mean to be like God, would it not? I could be benign, or I could be cruel, and absolutely
nothing could stand in my way. That absolute freedom of will is what attracts me, what drives me to
choose this ability. I could be anyone, do anything.
But I would not be free from conscience. Would conscience allow me to execute these selfish
pleasures? These unthinkable deeds? I take back what I said, for conscience of mind is the highest
power. It masters all, and all minds suffer great pain at the caprice of this thing. And if I were to have
all these powers, yet have nothing at the same time no purpose, no love, what good would these
powers do me?
So with these powers I would enjoy life s little gifts. Enjoy the humour presented to me by the
oblivious ignorance of those around. Play small games on people, watch them go around in circles,
confused, then return to their usual routine of stupefaction. I could do harm to mankind, yet I would
not. I would choose to live out my days in obscur

Sartre s Famous Play No Exit
No Exit Sarte
In Sartre s Famous play No Exit, the Audience takes a complex journey through three condemned
souls in hell and how their wrongful actions can truly lead them to live an imprisoned life in hell. The
play is based around three people; Joseph, Inez, and Estelle and how their personalities are a means of
torture to one another. The three are placed into a room with third empire furniture which could be
seen in a common drawing room, meant for entertaining. The way the room is styled can push the
audience to see that this room has been meant for these people and that theses people are meant to
torture one another. Each persons characteristics aim perfectly at annoying and torturing each other to
the point of exhaustion. The whole play is really a metaphor, showing that if people do not take
responsibility for their actions then they will live unfree lives, trapped in their own mistakes will drive
them to torture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Living an unfree life is a complete waste according to sarge and that is why the entire play shows the
wasted life of these people. These three people take a journey into how they deal with their
condemned eternity through denial, anger, frustration, and then finally acceptance. They realize why
they are through the constant annulment of one anther, which leads them to find out why they were
sent to hell. All three of the condemned people betrayed their loved ones and betrayed themselves and
this completely showed them how not looking out for their responsibilities in their past

The Pros And Cons Of Race Medicine
At the Prostate Cancer Symposium, sponsored by the American Society of Clinical Oncology
(ASCO), two leading clinicians and cancer researchers engaged in a point / counterpoint discussion
that proved to be illuminating and directional in moving the focus. Though the discussion was themed
to create positions of pro versus con, the reality of their arguments really showed more agreement than
not.
Dr. Otis Brawley of Emory University and current Medical Director of the American Cancer Society
lead the discussion by creating a historical perspective of race and its position, or lack of it, in cancer
research and treatment. The concept of race medicine was one that held strength in the first three
decades of the 20th Century and saw its nadir ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roach related several other examples of healthcare disparity: greater utilization of coronary
revascularization procedures among Medicare Part A enrollees was higher for whites; Blacks were
33% to 54% less likely to receive enhanced cardiac therapies than whites in Veterans Administration
hospitals; and living in a disadvantaged neighborhood is associated with increased coronary heart
disease. All of the above examples have been reported in the Journal of the American Medical
Association and the New England Journal of Medicine.
In trying to understand the differentials based on genetic factors, studies of the polymorphism
Cyp3A4, which is important in androgen metabolism in prostate cancer, would have suggested that the
presence of this polymorphism is a factor; however, the reality is that there wasn t correlation with
disease outcomes. In reality, the preponderance of all data suggests that there are no differences in
outcomes based on race.
The fact is African American men have the 2nd highest five year survival rate in the world, after U.S.
white men. If race then does not matter, then why do Blacks still have a higher incidence and mortality
from prostate cancer? We can break the factors into categories related to incidence and/or

Major Key Roles Of Social Media In The 21st Century
Social Media plays a huge and major key role with our lives as human beings in this day and age of
the 21st century. The role that social media plays is that millions of people could connect and meet all
over the world on one website or one app to meet others of the same interest, and other topics that they
enjoy or love such as video games, reading, board games, mathematics, etc. . Horrifically, over the
years criticism began on the dawn of social media has caused a spread of rumors, fear, and disgust into
these social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat, parents worry about
their children s protection and fear that one wrong post could spell disaster for the family of the child.
Families have proposed that adult link protection should be linked onto children s social media to
watch them to make sure that they don t look or do mischievous or horrific acts to other older or of the
same age, but i believe that with this thesis and action of choices, we could make the internet a safer
and child friendly place or all. Three ideas that could help with supporting my thesis is 1. Sort social
media by age groups and types of cultures, 2. Have people not be able to post their location or address
without extensive security question and material, and 3 make usernames and passwords for social
media websites more secure, and to protect people s valuable information from criminals. My First
reasoning to support my thesis is that we should have different types

Horse Thrush Research Paper
In 2006, there were 58,372,106 horses in the world, and that number continues to grow to this day.
People can help keep these horses feet healthy by buying a hoof pick. Horse owners should purchase a
hoof pick because picking out horses feet can prevent thrush, show problems early on, and if their
hooves aren t picked, gravel and dirt can easily be picked up. To begin, if a horse s hooves aren t
picked, a disease called thrush can be caused. Thrush is an infection that eats away at the tissues of the
frog which is located in the hoof. This infection causes discomfort to the horse, and if it gets
unbearable, it can cause lameness. When a horse is exposed to pain in their feet, it won t stand or walk
on it for one of two reasons; it refuses

One of the many things that are particularly interesting about America s Got Talent is the diversity of
contestants that are willing to showcase their talents. Among a plethora of singers and dancers, there
are those who would enter the stage with out of this world abilities. However, for those who choose to
take the road more travelled in this case, singing they would have to set a high bar in order to get the
judge s attention.
Last month s America s Got Talent auditions witnessed an unexpected performance from 20 year old
Sal Valentinetti. Hailing from the busy streets of Long Island, New York, he charmed and used his

In the song Hurricane by Bob Dylan it describes their protest about the imprisonment of Rubin
Hurricane Carter. It arranges alleged acts of racism and profiling against Carter. Bob Dylan describes
as leading to a false trial and conviction. Rubin Carter and John Artis were charged with a triple
murder at the Lafayette Grill in Paterson, New Jersey in 1966. The next year Carter and Artis were
found guilty of the murders, which were reported as racially motivated. In the following years,
numerous amounts of controversy appeared over the case from allegations of faulty evidence and
questionable eyewitness testimony to an unfair trial. Hurricane gives examples of some of the major
topics we have talked about in Theology. For example, the

  • 2. Essay about The Gay and Lesbian Community in the Y... The Gay and Lesbian Community in the Y Generation As the Y Generation continues to expand its horizons, new trends of tolerance are beginning to shine through. The gay and lesbian community is more readily embraced by today s generation than by generations in America s past. More and more people are coming out than ever before, which proves that the gay and lesbian community is gaining acceptance and their rights to equality are slowing increasing, but discrimination is still there. Even though gays and lesbians are more accepted amongst the Y Generation, hate and misunderstanding still exist. There are many misconceptions about the gay and lesbian community, which occur for the most part because society doesn t take the time to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gabriel Rotello in his article Calling All Parents, underscores this need for parental love by stating that almost all lesbian and gay teens go through a terrible, lonely stage when they feel they have no one to turn to, not even their own family members sometimes especially not their own family members. It s a phase that can leave lasting psychological damage even to the vast majority who survive it (112). Gay children are at extremely high risk for anxiety, confusion, despair, and, yes, some even contemplate suicide. In fact, according to a recent study published in the May 1999 issue of Archives of Pediatrics Adolescent Medicine, gay and lesbian youth were 3.4 times as likely to have attempted suicide than straight youth. (487) Can the media play a part to alert parents of gay children to express their love and acceptance before it is too late? We see and hear campaigns about drugs and smoking, but what about homosexuality? Rotello took the plunge and created an ad campaign that warns, Millions of American kids are gay and at risk. So talk to your children and let them know you love them, no matter how they choose to love. (112) The more exposure this sensitive issue receives in the media, the better off families with gay members will be. On another note, the gay and lesbian community is gaining more acceptance in the entertainment industry. Entertainment is something that pertains to every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sociological Concepts Of Family, Gender, And Identity Essay This essay discusses the way in which I understand the sociological concepts of family, gender and race nuclear family, doing gender, and identity, in particular. Arguably, these three concepts can relate to each individuals life, through different personal experiences. To demonstrate my argument, I highlight relevant situations in my own life that further explain my chosen sociological concepts. The first concept I chose to focus on is family. In particular, the idea of the nuclear family . A nuclear family is defined as: A couple and their dependent children, regarded as a basic social unit. My research of this concept will focus on the theories of two sociologists George Peter Murdock, and Talcott Parsons. George Murdock s theory suggests that there are four essential functions of an ideal family. 1. Stable satisfaction of the sex drive, 2. The biological reproduction of the next generation, 3. Socialisation of the young, 4. Meeting its members economic needs (Thompson, 2014). According to Murdock, these four components are what keep the structure of the basic family unit intact, and by achieving these four functions create an ideal family model. An opposing theory is Talcott Parson s functional fit theory. Parson suggests that as society evolves, alternative forms of family life become more accepted. Society has progressed so much that single parents providing for their children is as normal as a nuclear family, and there tends to be less need for extended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Snows Of Kilimanjaro Analysis Angelica Sawan Professor North October 23, 2017 SLD Packet 2 Summary: The Snows of Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway is a tale of a man named Harry and his Wife Helen who are on a safari trip, and while on it Harry catches gangrene because he doesn t put ointment on a cut he received from a thorn while taking a photo of a water buck. Throughout the story Harry is a Negative Nancy, arguing with his wife and being blunt about how he is going to die before a rescue team can get to them. For example, Harry and Helen argue about whether he should drink a whisky and soda, whether she should read to him, and about how he is going to die. Harry thinks about his life experiences a lot in this short story, about how he hasn t lived up to his potential as a writer because he has a tendency to marry rich women. Harry also goes in and out of consciousness while remembering his life adventures. His wife Helen does care for Harry and she does enjoy his writing, but she is obviously concerned about his health and his self pity irritates her. Harry mentions that Helen is really a good wife and does not keep him as a proud possession and how she doesn t neglect his true talent, which is writing. We also find out that Helen is a widow who was bored of the lovers before Harry and they married because of her enjoyment of his writing and how they have similar interests. At the end of the story Helen wakes up because of a loud hyena call, she takes a flashlight and shines it on Harry s bed which she moved into their tent earlier that night. She sees him under the mosquito net with his leg hanging off of the cot and notices that Harry is dead. The hyena cries again but Helen can t hear it over her heart breaking. Formal: Tender Buttons by Gertrude Stein is a collection of writings about ordinary objects, and is divided into objects, food, and rooms. She uses random objects with random adjectives, and she uses language to direct the mind and force the reader to connect nouns with unsuspecting adjectives to make you look at the world in a new way. It s a pros poem, it s a cubist poem. She tries to break apart logic. The theme is giving new meaning to ordinary objects, she wants us to think, she uses a lot of literary devices. ... • 7. Theme Of Music In Fantasia 3 Program music is music that is intended to evoke images or convey the impression of events. From the music, a story was developed to be in Fantasia 3. The characters in the story are hundreds of trolls along with one tiny fox. It is set in a deep dark, enchanted forest during night time. The key is B♭minor which the minor sound creates a scary and dark mood. This key had been associated with words such as obscure and gloomy and has also been associated with the image or mood of night time.. Right as the song starts it begins forte. This grabs the audience s attention straight away and scares the audience just like the trolls do to the fox. The dynamic portrays the dominant, scary nature of the trolls right from the first beat. This is also is goes hand in hand with the timbre. The song begins with a large group of strings and woodwind instruments playing, depicting all of the trees. They used lower sounding instruments, such as the bassoon and clarinet, to create a dark and scary sound. This allows for a fuller sound further allowing them to create scary, gloomy and intimidating atmosphere. The tempo is andante, an easy walking pace, which is fairly slow. However, having this tempo allows the portrayal of the trees to be large, heavy and slow moving. The melody itself has many rests in between the melody patterns. This helps depict the trolls being so stiff as they change from tree to troll, suggesting that they have been a tree for too long. This is also supported by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Discovery Of The Tomb Of King Tutankhamun The discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamun has answered many questions and solved many mysteries about the life of people in Ancient Egypt. However, the life and death of the boy king is still a mystery itself. For example, one continual argument and mystery is how King Tut died. Although there are many opposing theories, King Tutankhamen died because he was already weak from genetic diseases, then broke his leg, which got infected and caused King Tut to die. King Tutankhamun was an Egyptian pharaoh that had an early death. He was born circa 1341 B.C.E. and was the 12th pharaoh of the 18th dynasty (King Tut Biography). His main impact on Egypt was restoring the main polytheistic religion of Ancient Egypt (King Tut Biography). His father, Akhenaten, whose name translates to he who works for Aten, wanted Egypt to become monotheistic (King Tut Biography). He wanted all of Egypt to only worship Aten, instead of the pantheon of gods they had previously worshipped (King Tut Biography). Egyptian society went into chaos and Akhenaton was probably forced to abdicate the throne. (King Tut Biography). When Tutankhamun was born, he was originally called Tutankhaten, meaning living image of Aten, but he eventually changed his name to Tutankhamun, meaning the living image of Amun (Meaning of Akhenaten and King Tut Biography). Converting Egypt to polytheism was the main impact of King Tutankhamen in Egypt. King Tutankhamun came to power in Egypt very young. He probably became ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Outline Of Different Cultural Beliefs For example, Buddhists believe their souls after death either are put back into the life cycle or they reach Nirvana. This can convince a Buddhist family to find reassurance in knowing their loved one has a chance of reaching a sacred place. The practices religions take on in the remembrance of their loved one can also change the steps of grief. Most of the religions listed in An Outline of Different Cultural Beliefs shows each religion has their own way of holding some type of ceremony where they pray, sing, or tell stories of the deceased. In those same religions, family and friends also gather to celebrate birthdays and holidays with or for the deceased. Holding these celebrations can cause the family and friends to not feel the acceptance of their death and still feel anger, depression, or denial in their heart. ... Therefore, when looking at the rights and wrongs of expressing grief, it is just as diverse as greetings from culture to culture ( Cultural Greetings 1). For instance, in areas of Britain, it is common to not express one s anger. • 11. Gaius Julius Caesar Analysis The Things Which are Caesar s Gaius Julius Caesar was a military commander, a Roman consul, and Dictator of Ancient Rome. His military victories, cult of personality, and influence on Roman life brought him respect in Rome. Cicero, an orator of the era, confirmed Cesar s accounts of his role during the civil war. In representing his own role in the Roman Civil War, Julius Caesar sketches a picture of his influence on his contemporaries that rings true when compared to Cicero s documentation of the same period. Though Caesar praises himself while Cicero scorns him, a consistent picture of Caesar s influence emerges from a close reading of the two authors: he instilled fear in the hearts of Roman Senators and inspired loyalty in Roman Citizens. In Caesar s account in The Civil War, he presents the Roman Senators persecuting him as unreasonable and himself as justified, a contrast to Cicero s personal criticisms of the commander. Caesar states that the Senate is punishing him for his moderate demands (pg. 37). Caesar accounts that the Roman Senate refuses to dismantle Pompey s army, in addition, he states that the Roman Senate is using unnecessary measures against him, as he recounts, ...harsh measures were advocated; and the more savage and vindictive the speaker, the more he was applauded by Caesar s enemies (pg.36 40). Fisher esterification is a reaction that produces ester by refluxing a carboxylic acid and an alcohol in presence of an acid catalyst. In this experiment, the carboxylic acid is acetic acid, and the alcohol is unknown. The product has a banana like smell, which was most likely to be pentyl acetate, 2 pentyl acetate, or isopentyl acetate. The IR spectroscopy was performed on the alcohol and the product in order to confirm the synthesis of ester. Three distinct signals were observed on alcohol IR spectrum. From left to right, the first signal labeled as B is a multiplet at 4.8ppm since it is next to the ester group, has 5 neighbors, is the most deshielded proton. Therefore, the ester can be either 2 pentylacetate or 1, 3 dimethylbutyl acetate. Since it has the banana like smell, the ester would most likely be 2 pentylacetate. Other signals would further confirm the identity of the synthesized ester. The signals labeled as A at 2.01ppm should be a singlet since it is next the ester group and has no neighbor. Two overlapping signals labeled as D E have 3 and 5 neighbors, respectively. The signals are multiplet overlapping each other between 1.6 to 1.30 ppm. A doublet was seen in the spectrum at 1.18ppm labeled as C since the protons are on the carbon that attached to the tertiary carbon, which locates next to the ester group labeled as B and has one proton. Lastly, a triplet labeled F was seen at 0.90ppm, which is the most shielded since it locates the furthest from the electronegative ester group. These signals confirm that ester product is indeed 2 pentyl acetate. Since 2 pentyl acetate was confirmed to be the synthesized ester, the starting alcohol must be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Descartes And Spinoza On Nature Of God When it comes to life s unanswerable questions, philosophers have always been prepared to provide possible explanations on what they believe and try to further discuss difficult topics. This is certainly the case when it comes to Descartes and Spinoza, who are both adamant that their views provide the correct context and insight on their opinions of God. In Readings in Modern Philosophy by Ariew and Watkins, it is revealed that while both philosophers tend to agree on opinions like God being infinite, there are many reasons why Descartes and Spinoza disagree on the nature of God and their opinion of substance, for example, Descartes believes that there is more than one type of substance, while Spinoza argues that God is the only substance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This goes back to the idea of God being infinite because he acknowledges that a substance like God will always persist regardless of if anyone was there to think him into existence. In addition, the view that God is a morally good and just substance plays a significant role in Descartes beliefs, without it, many of his ideas wouldn t be as secure, such as his beliefs of physical objects, he explains this when he states, Now there clearly is in me a passive faculty of sensing, that is, a faculty for receiving and knowing the ideas of sensible things; but I could not use it unless there also existed, either in me or in something else, a certain active faculty of producing or bringing about these ideas... (RMP, 51). This is one way that Descartes argues that the nature of God is supremely good. It shows that Descartes doesn t think that God is a deceiver, this is important because it revelas how he views God s nature, as an inherently good because he explains that if we are deceived by God then he must not be real because God is not a deceiver. Alternatively, Spinoza s ideas of the nature of God differ greatly. To begin, Spinoza views God as the only infinite substance that has an infinite amount of distinct attributes. He believes that God exists necessarily and that created substances are nonexistent. He defines substance by stating, Substance which we understand to be through itself supremely perfect and in which nothing can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The phrase Aztec refers to the Nahuatl speaking occupants of the Valley of Mexico or the Mexica people of Tenochtitlan. The Aztecs originated from a place known as Aztlan. Despite contrasting opinion of whether Aztlan exists or not, the Aztecs were said to have come from the north. Their journey to the Valley of Mexico was shared with various other tribes. Each group arrived at different times and the Mexica people, the Aztecs, were the last to arrive. As a result, they settled in the land others did not want. The U5MR is a good health indicator because it is less susceptible to fallacy than other indicators such as gross national income per capita because even if families differ in a income by 1000 fold, their child will not have 1000 fold difference in survival (UNICEF, n.d.). Estimating U5MR through country wide household surveys (Such as the DHS) revealed the underestimation of child mortality obtained from census data (UNICEF, n.d.). Thus, the U5MR is a solid indicator of health, and is best measured through personal surveys. The United Nations set quantitative sustainable development goals to reduce child mortality by 2030. The UN proposes ending all preventable deaths of newborns, and achieving a neonatal mortality rate of at or below 12 per 1000 live births, and an Under five mortality of 25 per 1000 live births (Health United Nations Sustainable Development, n.d.). For some countries in Sub Saharan Africa, reaching this goal will require more than halving their current child mortality rate. Risk Factors for Child Mortality In 99 low and middle income countries surveyed, under five mortality was twice as high in the poorest households when compared with the wealthiest households, thus the burden of child death is greater for poorer families (UN IGME, 2017). • 17. Philosophy And The Modern Philosophy Upon talking about the history of modern philosophy, one of the most important philosophers, who is considered as the father of the philosophy in this period, is Descartes. He was a pioneer for the movement of the new trend of philosophy and became a break between the medieval philosophy and the modern philosophy. Being educated in the environment of medieval philosophy, specifically in the school of Jesuits, Descartes received the system of scholastic philosophy as his foundation for making a new start into the history of philosophy. In his life, Descartes tried to establish a system of philosophy which was suitable to the development of society and science. To do that, he did not collapse pre philosophical systems, but somehow he ignored their values. In his Meditations he says Once in my life I had to raze everything to the ground and begin again from the original foundations, if I wanted to establish anything firm and lasting in the sciences. Therefore, he just could begin a new system of philosophy which, he thought, would be a certain and firm foundation to get knowledge. However, to build up the principles for this foundation, Descartes had to use the concept of God in his arguments. The existence of God became an important means for the construction of his new philosophical system. Hence, I will emphasize on the importance of God in this paper by discovering the role of God as a means in Descartes main points of reasoning, particularly God with the method of ... • 21. Military Strategy and Planning Part 1 Military theory after World War II drastically changed for two major reasons: the dropping of Atomic weapons on Japan and what would become known as the Cold War between the USSR and the West. Foreign policy, which became military policy, starting in 1947 is known as the Truman Doctrine. This began with U.S. support of Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent those countries from falling under Soviet influence. The policy was written as a response to the events that took place in the Eastern European Theater after World War II. The Soviet Union coopted much of Eastern Europe, ½ of Germany, ½ of Berlin, and believed they needed an even greater buffer zone to protect Russia from the West. Greece and Turkey were logical extensions of this because both had been devastated during WWII and had strong socialist parties. Truman believed that if Greece and Turkey did not receive the aid they needed, they would inevitable fall to Soviet influence. The intended audience was wide: this was a clear message to the Soviet Union; a message to Europe that the U.S. would not tolerate Soviet aggression; a message to the people of Greece and Turkey that the U.S. would side with them; and a message to Congress and the American people that the U.S. would put in a formal policy to prevent the spread of worldwide communism. I jumped out of the car with eagerness when I saw my friends waiting for me by the curb line. After that I rushed to grab my obnoxious hefty garment bag, sticky tan buckled shoes, and my make up paraphernalia. I look into each of the items to ensure every single piece I needed is in order, so I can be ready to board the buses. The garment bag contains the Earth sparkled dress, leotard, and shredded tights, with a few mystery items. The shoes need to have more stickiness for the next wear, so I placed a bulky roll of duct tape in the bottom of the bag along with the shoes. Realizing that he had done something I wasn t comfortable with, he told me he was up late playing Halo, and kept his outing from me for almost a month. Since we had never laid our boundaries, there were no boundaries to break. Personally, I view cheating as doing something you would not tell your significant other about, but he sees it as having intimate relations with someone other than your significant other. He saw it as him doing something wrong and apologized for it, but felt that it was nowhere near cheating. Our disagreement stems from the differences between our beliefs and expectations for each other. In our relationship, my boyfriend had never done anything for me to lack a sense of trust. He let me know where he was, even when I did not want to know, and always tried his best to keep in contact with me. When it came to me spending time with the opposite sex, he was always comfortable with the idea which is why he thought I felt the same. Maybe this foreshadows imminent doom. But I cannot help but be tempted by all these what ifs . What if I knew all the most powerful secrets of the world? That sheer power is so distant, it is almost unimaginable. For to have all the knowledge of the world would mean to be like God, would it not? I could be benign, or I could be cruel, and absolutely nothing could stand in my way. That absolute freedom of will is what attracts me, what drives me to choose this ability. I could be anyone, do anything. But I would not be free from conscience. Would conscience allow me to execute these selfish pleasures? These unthinkable deeds? I take back what I said, for conscience of mind is the highest power. It masters all, and all minds suffer great pain at the caprice of this thing. And if I were to have all these powers, yet have nothing at the same time no purpose, no love, what good would these powers do me? So with these powers I would enjoy life s little gifts. Enjoy the humour presented to me by the oblivious ignorance of those around. Play small games on people, watch them go around in circles, confused, then return to their usual routine of stupefaction. Dr. Otis Brawley of Emory University and current Medical Director of the American Cancer Society lead the discussion by creating a historical perspective of race and its position, or lack of it, in cancer research and treatment.
