Idoxuridine And Trifluridine
Idoxuridine (IDU) and trifluridine (TFT) are the drugs from which the era of antiviral drug therapy
started . In 1959 Prusoff described IDU synthesized by as a potential anticancer agent. In 1961 it first
showed activity against herpes simplex virus (HSV) and vaccinia virus by Herrmann, and it was
launched, for the topical treatment of herpetic keratitis by Kaufman. Two years later, Kaufman and
heidelbrger also used trifluridine (TFT) for the topical treatment of herpetic keratitis. IDU and TFT are
still been used in the topical treatment of herpetic eye infections. In the 1960s, arabinosyladenine (ara

When Thinking Of Bob Dylan
Deven Fiandaca

Mr. Wormwood
Period 4
When thinking of Bob Dylan, two immediate things come to mind. First off, and most obvious, Mr.
Dylan is known for his nasally voice. This seems to be the first topic of discussion when Bobs name
comes up. Secondly, and more importantly, Bob is known for his talent of song writing, unlike many
other artists in today s world, bob tells a story with all of his songs. Many of his songs are over 5
minutes long, for those who don t know much about music, this is extremely long. He takes time and
puts in immense effort in all of his work, which is why Bob is known for his great work and the
reason for Dylan winning the Nobel Prize for Literature this past year.
Today, I will be reviewing and analyzing the album Desire by Bob Dylan. This album was released on
January 5th, 1976. The entire albums length is 56 minutes and 13 seconds, consisting of 9 songs. This
album contains one of Bob s most famous songs, which will be the first song I will be reviewing. The
album was co written by Jacques Levy. The album is made up of many story songs. This album alone
stirred up some controversy, regarding one of his songs named Joey .
Joey was one of Bob s longest and most famous songs. The song has a length of 11 minutes. This
piece by Dylan stirred up a lot of controversy regarding the gangster Crazy Joey Gallo. Although
Gallo was accused of two murders, this song seems to be sympathizing and glorifying him. The song
has to do with

The Stress Of The Pain
The pain, the stress, as the sound rings my ears, in a repetitive, persistent manner, in Search of relief,
extending my arms with all the energy remaining, tempted to leave the noise in replace for a greater
annoyance An hour until shift ends , i relieve the noise of its duty as the cold presses against my

the last few minutes are always the hardest, i snatched my backpack and paced out the room as the
sound of the creaky door lingered, The thought of home tingled my senses, mostly because I don t

always yapping about how late I am on rent. It s all too exciting, everything was a blank, but it was the
sight of the aged brick block of apartments that awoke me to my senses, the air is dense and the scent
of old people intruded my sense of smell. I hand my pocket change to the homeless man who camps

Heart Of Darkness Human Nature
I had no difficulty in finding the Company s offices. It was the biggest thing in the town, and
everybody I met was full of it.... (1.22). The novella, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, is an
extrospective look at man and his actions. Throughout the novella, human nature is discussed at great
length as many unique individuals, show varying traits and desires, strive to accomplish great (or not
so great) tasks. From imperialists, marauders, steam boat captains, or tribesman everyone succumbs to
the same basic human emotions. The men and women in heart of Darkness portray the true nature of
mankind.
One of the earliest ideas of human nature presented is the striving for power or control. As Marlow s
early life is discussed, the first examples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is reassured that the enemies are there. When Marlowe arrives at the camp, he makes note of the
disturbing abuse of the slaves stating I could see every rib, the joints of their limbs were like knots in a
rope; each had an iron collar around his neck... (ch1/pg53). The numerous, well armed, Europeans
used their power to enslave the local populace to further their own gains. When Marlowe s ship came
under fire from natives, the mere sound of the foghorn drove them away in fear. They truly had lost
power over their situation. Some even joined Europeans like Kurtz. Human nature makes us strive
towards the strong and abandon the weak. Those Natives who raided other natives villages sought
power and security in a time of uncertainty. To truly signify power, Joseph Conrad used a symbol. In
Heart of Darkness, Ivory is equivalent to power. Although it could easily be substituted to represent
any number of things; money, strength, or stature. In Heart of Darkness, ivory is the major commodity

Multiple Intelligences Self Assessment Quiz
I choose to take the Multiple Intelligences Self Assessment quiz. When I taught preschool and as the
trainer for my department I have learned that there are many different methods in which people learn.
I have learned to adapt how I teach and train based on what is required by the learner. Due to this I
was curious to determine the variety of learning methods that work best for me. I discovered that I
have a broad range of ways in which I learn best. I have always excelled at learning and find that I
learn fairly quickly, so this is not surprising to me. What did surprise me was that my highest
percentage was naturalistic. One question that I often ask is, Why? I enjoy having a knowledge of how
things work and the ability to understand a variety of subjects, but did not realize how highly it
impacted my learning. The few categories where I scored low were music and body kinesthetic.
Neither of these surprise me much. When I work and am trying to concentrate I find that music and
movement is very distracting. I have learned to eliminate them when focus and concentration is
crucial. The rest of the categories I scored from 49% to 63%. I feel this explains my ability to learn a
broad spectrum of things quickly no matter what the method of learning is. The two areas where I
scored the highest were interpersonal and intrapersonal. This explains my drive for success, ability to
gain insight into a variety of situations and people, my solid foundation in who I am and what

Exclusive Breastfeeding And Infant Mortality
Exclusive Breastfeeding and Infant Mortality: If We Nudge, Will Mothers Budge?
Section I: Introduction
West Africa has the highest infant mortality rate in the world for every 1000 live births, 70 children
die before their first birthday (Wang, 2014). National infant mortality rates vary from 18.8 deaths per
1000 live births in Cape Verde to 89.9 deaths per 1000 live births in Guinea Bissau. Nonetheless, the
leading causes of infant mortality are largely the same across the region: neonatal conditions (26
percent), malaria (21 percent), pneumonia (21 percent), diarrhea (17 percent), measles (6 percent) and
HIV/AIDS (4 percent). The desired children hypothesis of fertility asserts that high fertility primarily
reflects desired number of children (Pritchett, 1994). In this regard, high infant mortality may motivate
women to have more children to attain their preferred family size. Thus aside the important population
health implications of reducing high infant mortality rates, demographic theory predicts that improved
child survival is accompanied by declines in fertility reflecting reduced demand for replacement births
to achieve a given target family size. The influence of reduced infant mortality on fertility decline has
also been established empirically in a wide range of settings (Barnum, 1988). Declines in infant
mortality, falls in fertility rates, and lower average family sizes lead to changes in population age
structure and stimulate increased female labor

A Short Note On Energy Drink And India Essay
V energy drink was first launched in New Zealand in August 1977, it was first expected that the
product would produce and sell domestically (within NZ). It was such a massive hit in NZ, it soon
took over 60% of the overall drinks market in NZ in 2003 and over 53% in Australia, making it the
most popular drink in both countries. V energy drink is currently being sold in 18 different countries
including Spain, Australia, Argentina, and the UK. India is not currently selling V Energy drink. We
have chosen to send this product to India because it has grown very popular in a short time, within NZ
and Australia, and it has all the ingredients that would suit the Indian taste. The energy drinks market
in India is at a nascent stage and it has huge potential for growth. There is more than one reason why I
am taking this product to India and I will explain below.  cultural / social environment: Increased
urbanisation, rising disposable income and growing health consciousness among the Indian youth has
increased the demand for non carbonated drinks called energy drinks. At the same time long and
erratic working hours and the increasing occurrence of social gatherings are driving Indian consumers
towards consumption of energy drinks which are primarily classified as non alcoholic, caffeinated
beverages and sports drinks. India is one of the fastest developing consumer markets, especially for a
product targeted towards the young and as well as young adults, mostly belonging to upper

He talks about how they came together and helped each other as if they were family by providing
water, food and companionship at Asano Park. With so many people whom lost their love ones, people
tend to need family to build on their strength, and without family you make new family. That is what
the Hiroshima people did. Who is better to build a bond with each other than people that are going
through the same turmoil? The Japanese people are stoic patriotic people. They did come together as a
community to assist each other but they suffered through their pain alone. They did not look for
sympathy or a shoulder to cry on. Mr. Tanimoto wrote in a letter describing how some Japanese died
without yelling out for help. He wrote, They died in silence with no grudge, setting their teeth to bear
it. All for the country (Hersey, p. 69)! They were proud people for their country and didn t want to

country s sake (Hersey, p. 69). Hersey also informs us of thirteen year old girls singing their national

beloved country. To know that you re going to die yet sing something that means so much to you

The History and Culture of Black Jews in America Essay
According to the broadest definition, there are approximately 9 million Jewish adults in America. Of
those, 5.3 million are Jewish because they practice the Jewish religion or who have a Jewish parent
and consider themselves Jewish. Non hispanic blacks make up 2% of that population. (A Portrait of
Jewish Americans) Blacks constitute such a small percentage of the Jewish population that they are
often considered to be obviously not Jewish . This was the experience of Rabbi Shlomo ben Levy.In
an article entitled, Who are we? Where did we come from? How many of us are there? , Rabbi Levy

(Kaye/Kantrowitz 1) Meanwhile, it is not uncommon for black Jews, who usually prefer to be called
Hebrews or Israelites, to describe white Jews as the products of conversion or intermarriage and that
Judaism is the true religion of their African ancestors. (Parfitt 84 88) This dynamic shapes the mutual
mistrust that exists between black Jews in America and the overwhelmingly Ashkenazi majority.
The problem of marginalization began with the waves of Jewish immigrants from Europe who fled the
Russion pogroms and later the Nazis. In their homelands, these people were Jewish, but in America
they had the opportunity to be white. In cementing their status as white, these Amnerican Jews further
alienated the small minority of Jews of African descent and others who do not fit nicely into the white
race group. Despite this, the black Jews of America share a diverse cultural history that is both African
and Jewish.
The Commandment Keepers, are one of the largest and best known black Jewish congregations in
America. (Chireau 25) Their founder, Wentworth Arthur Matthew, is regarded as the first black
American rabbi. Matthew s background is not well documented. From his own accounts he was born
in the West Indies in 1892, the grandson of an Ethiopian Jew, and studied at a number of prestigious
institutions. The congregation he founded remains active and has been an Orthodox Jewish
congregation since it s founding in 1919. (Biography of

Abstract
Countertransference is how therapists distort the way they perceive and react to a client (Corey, Corey,
and Callanan, 2011). Therapists are expected to identify and deal with their own reactions with
consultation, personal therapy, and supervision that their clients will not be negatively affected by the
therapist s problem. Personal therapy is an effective way for therapists to raise their awareness of
probable areas of countertransference. A therapist s countertransference can brighten dynamics of a
client. Countertransference can show itself in many different ways.

Who will be helped by what you do? , Who will be hurt? , What kinds of benefits and harm are we
talking about? , and How does all of this look over the long and short run? are questions to consider
whenever in an ethical dilemma situation.
Next, I would analyze the actions. I would consider all of my options from a different perspective. I
would see if my options measured up against moral principles like equality, respecting people s rights,
honesty, recognizing the vulnerability of individuals weaker or less fortunate than others, fairness, and
respecting the dignity of others. Then I would see if any of the actions that I was considering crossed
the line, in terms of ethical principle. Finally, I would make a decision. I would take both parts of my
analysis into account, and then I would make a decision.
The steps I would take to ethical decision making would be identifying the dilemma, identifying the
potential issues, reviewing the relevant ethics code, knowing the applicable laws and regulations, and
obtaining consultation, considering probable courses of action, enumerating the consequences of
various decisions, and choosing what appears to be the best course of action. It is vital to determine
whether a situation truly involves ethics or not (Corey, Corey, and Callanan, 2011). The first step to
resolving an ethical dilemma is recognizing that a problem exists and identifying what that might be.

Leading Causes Of Death In Horses
There is a lot to know about horses. The most important thing you need to to know is how to keep
your horse safe. You can do this by learning about different diseases horses can have and how to treat
them as well as knowing what to do when they get hurt. The leading causes of death in horses are old
age, colic, and injury. Following the first three are diseases. If your horse gets into an accident and
hurts itself a veterinarian needs to be contacted immediately. When a horse colics it has extreme
abdominal pain. You need to call a vet right away and walk the horse around. Two of the most
common signs of a horse colicking is laying down sprawled out and looking at their stomach.
Vaccinating your horse is essential. It is the only way to keep your horse from contracting and
spreading dangerous and potentially fatal diseases. The six main vaccines that you must give to
compete in competitions are eastern and western equine encephalitis (EEE and WEE) also known as
sleeping sickness, tetanus, equine influenza, rhinopneumonitis, and west nile. Another vaccines that is
not required by recommended to get is rabies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Brown V Board Of Education 1954
Brown v. Board of Education is a landmark case that was decided on by the U.S. Supreme Court on
May 17, 1954. The decision changed the way black citizens were to be treated by eliminating
segregation of students into all white and all black schools (Brown v. Board of Education, 1954).
Before this ruling, Plessy v. Ferguson allowed for segregation stating it was alright as long as the
students were treated equally (Plessy v. Ferguson, 1896). The problem with this, is that they were not.
Black students were forced to ride buses to schools that were far away from where they lived and
lacked funds for needed supplies to give a quality education. This demonstrated that while separate,

Ethnic Relations Affected by Apartheid s Laws in South Africa Over the years immigrants have
migrated from their native lands to different countries with the hopes and dreams of benefiting from
the valued resources other developed countries have to offer. Migration occurs mainly for the purpose
to gain better opportunities and life chances. In most cases, depending on an immigrant s personal
characteristics and physical traits being similar to that of the dominant groups the process of
assimilating into society is less difficult; however, for those that are not close in physical traits to the

The Afrikaners created the National Party and this ethnic group of dominantly white politicians
became fearful of the South Africans as numerically they were out numbered. In order to remain the
dominant group and continue to hold political power, the Dutch Afrikaners created 317 government
laws which were related to ethnic segregation and restrictions based upon race. The purpose for
creating the discriminating laws were to maintain the white domination of the society and laws were
designed to acknowledge the rights of the white people but at the same time deny the rights of those
who were non white. The first order of business for the Nationalist Party was to separate the
population of South Africa according to race, geographic locations, social and political separation.
According to the Library of Congress, apartheid s legislation states that the Population Registration
Act of 1950 in which the organization in charge of the racial classification was conducted by the
Department of Home Affairs, designed to divide the country s population according to race. The
Department of Home Affairs was responsible for recording people by their racial group and as a result
of the group members were treated differently. This law formed the basis of apartheid and under the
legislation terms of the population registration act, all residents of South Africa were to be classified
as white, colored, or native (later called Bantu)

Essay on How to Avoid Plagiarism
How to Avoid Plagiarism
Plagiarism is a growing problem in universities (Matheson Starr 2013) and becoming too common in
the scientific world (Ober et al. 2012). Hence it is important for students as well as researchers to
know how to avoid plagiarism. Before discussing the ways to avoid plagiarism, this paper discusses
the definition, the types and reasons for plagiarism. Copying or borrowing someone else s words or
ideas may perhaps be the more inoffensive way of explaining plagiarism. However, these two terms
may deliver a connotation that plagiarism is not much of a serious offense. Whether the act of
plagiarising is intentional or unintentional, it is considered as a fraud. In an academic setting
plagiarism may even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are surely many other ways of avoiding plagiarism but there are five simple rules suggested by
Ober et al. (2012).
Rule 1: Do not copy It is not a good practice to simply copy what is found in other people s work,
books or even your own writing. If you have to do so, do it properly by copying it with quotation
marks and appropriate citation. In addition to this, it is good to have a proper time management in
which you would have enough time to cite your sources properly.
Rule 2: Write in your own words Paraphrasing means putting someone else s ideas into your own
words but care must be taken as changing a few words and rearranging the original sentence is still
considered as copying . Hence, though paraphrasing is commonly suggested as one of the ways to
avoid plagiarism it is much better to avoid paraphrasing and rather use your own original voice .
Rule 3: When in doubt, cite This is one of the ways to avoid plagiarism but it should not be done
excessively. Otherwise you would end up with excessive citation in your piece of writing and lack of
writing in your own words. This is an indication for you to consider rewriting the paper.
Rule 4: Don t recycle images, figures, tables or text from one of your previously published papers
without citing This is the case of self plagiarising when you republish a figure from earlier publication
but fail to cite the original and obtain

Female Victims Case Study
Furthermore, female murder fatalities may be alleged as engaging in less disreputable or contributing
conduct associated with their own victimization compared with male victims (Baumer, Messner, and
Felson 290; Farrell and Swigert 352; Sundby 347). Similarly, sexual assault is an aggravating factor
both statutorily and de facto as a contemporaneous felony for a felony murder charge in most
jurisdictions (Snell). Stauffer et al find that juries are more likely to impose death sentences in
homicides involving rape. Although rare Pierce and Radelet forty two report that less than two percent
of first degree murder convictions in their 10 year Illinois sample included a contemporaneous sexual

They show that the apparent independent effects of victim race and gender on death sentences in Ohio
actually are a product of the strong association between one victim race gender group of cases and the
imposition of a death sentence. The comparison of specific race gender victim combinations reveals
that white female victim cases are the only victim race gender combination in which the odds of
receiving a death sentence are significantly different from any other reference group (i.e., white male,
black female, or black male victims). They argue that the observed white female effect is consistent
with the historically increased concern and ruthless response to the victimization of white females in
American culture (Holcomb, Williams, and Demuth 886). The perceived victimization of white
females, especially by nonwhite offenders, has considerable symbolic power in the United States and
has been used to support a variety of social and political goals (Langum; Morgan 55). Perhaps related
to this cultural history, white females may be perceived as the group most in need of protection from
violence and least likely to be responsible for their victimization. Conversely, homicides with other
victim groups may affect the focal concerns of decision makers in a manner that encourages a more
lenient response compared with the victimization of white females. Unlike black females and males in
general, for whom violence may be perceived as a more familiar experience (Hawkins 723); Spohn,
violence against white females may represent a more serious threat because of the harm to perceived
innocent victims a major factor in capital jury decision making (Sundby

Five Reasons People Abuse Their Partners Summary

men decide to abuse their spouse. Also, Askin is the Co Director of Menergy, which is a treatment
center for abusive partners. Askin goes into great depth and thinks psychological of the many reasons
why someone would abuse another person. Askin did not blame it on their behavior but she revealed
that a person may be abusive because this person may not know how to react when their ego is
bruised, they feel entitled, lack of empathy, lack of accountability, and unaddressed trauma. And then
she elaborated on each point. So Askins s goal by listing those five topics was to show people that
there is a deeper reason on why someone may be abusive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

responding and acting in an abusive manner towards his wife. She heard her story and came to a
conclusion that Joe is abusive towards his wife because in his childhood, since he was the only child
he received everything he wanted. And if something did not go the way he wanted to, for instance, Joe
quit the basketball team in high school because he felt as though the coach was tough. So when he
gets into arguments with his wife and she is not agreeing or following his rules then he gets loud and
starts become disrespectful. At the end of the article it did not really specify on what happens to Joe

Women in Sports and Sports Broadcasting Essay
Women in Sports and Sports Broadcasting
Before I conducted this media analysis about women in sports and sport broadcasting, I hypothesized
the obvious that more male sports would be in the media, and that there would be more male sports
broadcasters as well. Through my observations I did find that the sports arena and sports broadcasting
sphere are male dominated. However, I also found that although there are not many stories about
women, there has been a steady progression and magazines like Sports Illustrated are becoming bold
enough to highlight women athletes in a magazine that is targeted towards a male audience. Although
women still have a long way to go, they are making some headway into the male dominated sports
arena. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only empowering story I found was a feature about the Notre Dame vs. UCLA women?s soccer
match?and this only contained a picture and a brief summary of the game. Most print media sports
stories are written by men?even the articles that are about women. This shows that males dominate the
journalism field in general. It is funny that men can be experts on women and women in sport. This
might also show that men are interested in women?s sport, realizing that the women?s sport
movement is an important movement and should be given some credit.
On all four of the news broadcasts I watched, men dominated the broadcasting. With the exception of
the Merril Lynch Celebrity Ski Classic Cup, which had two male broadcasters and two female
reporters, the broadcasts were either male dominated (with one woman reporter) or only contained
men. I found that sports such as skiing or running exhibit more gender equality than male dominated
sports like football, baseball or basketball.
Women have come a long way, and are actually beginning to find a more significant place in sports
media. Men are starting to take women more seriously?both on the field and in the news station. I was
ecstatic to read a SI letter to the editor, written by a man that read, ??Maybe we should show a little
respect for the women?s accomplishment? (SI, November 2004)?it gave me hope. Through this
analysis, I gained a stronger appreciation for sports media, and became more optimistic about women

UFO Captured by CNN
Could this be another hoax video placed on YouTube to simply get YouTubers interested in clicking?
The footage was published by UFO Alien and has nearly 9,000 views. The bizarre fact that the video
is from 2011 raises some hoax alarms. But stranger UFO footage that is much older has been recently
circulating. It could be possible that the footage was finally leaked. Five years after it was shot. A
disgruntle CNN employee could have taken the footage as a retirement gift. Or a NASA leak could be
plausible as well. But not likely.

The Third Wave Feminism
There are three waves of feminism. The first wave (1830 s early 1900 s) emphasized on legal issues
and gaining political power including the right to vote to bring gender equality. The second wave
(1960 s 1980 s) stressed on broadening the discussions to a wider range. They focused on the work
place, sexuality, family, reproductive rights, domestic violence and marital rape issues. The third wave
(1900 s present) expands the topic of feminism to include women with varied identities and a response
to the failures of movements by second wave feminism. Rebecca Walker coined the term third wave
feminism in an essay Becoming the Third Wave (1992). In the introduction to idea of third wave
feminism in Manifesta authors Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards suggest that feminism can
change with every generation and individual. Feminists have long criticised the institution of
marriage. They stated that marriage leads to oppression of women and their rights curtailed. The
gender inequality is judged from the fact that mostly women take up domestic and caring work and
they get paid less than men for outside work. Traditionally, all men give speech and the women
surrender her name to take her husband s name. As a high profile couple, Jean Paul Sartre and Simone
de Beauvoir always expressed opposition to marriage. Brian Sawyer in his post published in
November 2003 wrote Marriage, understood existentially, proposes to join two free selves into one

Essay on New Orleans Levees
For years now the discussions have arose about the levee systems in America and how some are not
safe and need to be replaced. This problem has been focused on the levee system in New Orleans.
Many engineers and other people have asked the question whether or not the present levee system in
New Orleans could withstand a huge wave or a direct hit from a powerful hurricane. These questions
were answered when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans as a Category 3 hurricane which isn t even
the most powerful. After the hurricane hit the levee system failed and there were many breaches in the
system, which lead to the flooding of most of the city. My question is what could have been done to
stop this disaster from happening and what now can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Back in the 1800 s there were severe floods in New Orleans that displaced their residents more than
one. The floods occurred in 1816, 1823, and 1849. The levees back then were roughly in the same
places that the levees are during Katrina. During the 1849 flood, many residents homes were flooded
for up to 40 days (Colten 3). In the same article, Colten also says, that almost 2,000 homes and 12,000
residents were the ones displaced. In response to this flood, like others before and after, officials raised
the levee height and thereby encouraged additional urbanization on the floodplain (Colten 3). So
obviously over the years New Orleans has not learned and the tradegy will just keep happening. It has
happened countless times and still I can t stress it enough of how much New Orleans hasn t learned by
their mistakes. This is not opinion this is fact, it is written fact that the same problem keeps occurring
at the same place, the same way but different time after time. In 1915, another major hurricane hit
New Orleans and over two meters of water was stuck in the bowl levees built around the city. This
huge mass of water overwhelmed the NEW city pumps and contributed to the damage of around
20,000 buildings (Colten 3). And again in 1947 a major hurricane hit New Orleans again and flooded
fairly new Jefferson Parish, and after the storm the flood water didn t go back down again it pooled in

Pros And Cons Of Cochlear Implants
Cochlear Implant: Its Pros and Cons
Hearing loss is one of the most difficult disabilities you might face. It has many causes, such as birth
defect, loud noise, illness and accidents. Luckily, there are many ways to treat this condition, such as
hearing aids and devices, among which a very popular choice called cochlear implant.
A cochlear implant uses an electronic device that is surgically implanted within your ear, particularly
its canal. It is performed if you suffer from severe or worsening hearing loss. Essentially, the implant
replaces the function of your inner ear s hair cells, which help you register sound vibrations and when
damaged, are not able to function. While a cochlear implant will not give you back 100% of your
hearing ability, it is enough to allow you to hear and understand most sounds and communicate better
with other people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It poses some surgical risks and complications.
You should know that surgery, in and of itself, always runs risks, and if you have any medical
condition prior to it, it may make things more difficult healing may be hindered or complications may
arise. Considering that cochlear implants require a surgical insertion, you should always talk to your
physician regarding your current and past health concerns. Surgery can also lead to numbness of the
surgical site, muscle spasms, minor facial paralysis or occasional facial numbness.
Even older adults who receive the implant might have permanent or temporary electronic conversion
complications in the brain, which are not painful nonetheless. Electronic signals might not register
fully, causing some hearing and speech hindrances.
Moreover, some people will have surgical complications or are found to be not compatible with the
device. Their body might reject the implant, which could require further surgery or removal. If the
device fails, patients will experience around the same level of hearing loss or deafness before until
repair is done.

A Landmark Surgery
At approximately 10:30 AM on the 19th of October 1927 Carrie Buck was escorted back to her room
to begin the short recovery period she was required to take after having had an inch of flesh removed
from each of her Fallopian tubes with the loose ends then being professionally and caringly cauterized
and sutured closed. This woman had just undergone a landmark surgery, not because of the highly
technical aspects of the surgery, or anything of the sort, but rather because the entire procedure had
been performed against her will. Following Carrie out of the operating room was Dr. John H Bell, the
superintendent of the Virginia Colony for Epilectics and Feebleminded, for whom this case marked a

It is in other countries where we are most familiar with the process, most specifically Nazi Germany.
The efforts of the Third Reich to create a genetically superior race of Aryans was another example of
the application of eugenics (Leuchtenburg 12). The most basic tenant of this practice is the premise
that weak parents will lead to weak offspring, who will in turn produce more of the same genetically
deficient specimens and in time degrade the integrity of the entire human race. Upon entering the legal
battle that would decide who had the right to preside over her reproductive decision, Carrie Buck
knew that the outcome of the case would not only have an effect on her future but that of thousands of
others who were having their rights brought into question as well. Beyond merely giving the go ahead
for her own sterilization, the loss of the case would bring about a new set of legal justifications for the
systematic, controlled extinction of those who were not considered of the ideal genetic makeup. This
wasnt just a fight for an individuals freedom, it was a fight for equality as promised by legislature that
even then threatened to strip away what it had promised in its governing documents. The official name

Pros And Cons Of Xenotransplantation In Australia
INTRODUCTION Allotransplantation is the prime treatment available to humans with damaged
organs (Cowan, 2011). However, due to a shortage of suitable organ donors, approximately 100
Australians die each year while waiting to receive an organ transplant (McCredie, 2010). To fulfil the
need for organs, transplant specialists use the method of cross species transplantation, also known as
xenotransplantation. Xenotransplantation involves grafting or transplanting live organs (heart, kidney,
liver etc.), tissues (skin tissues) or a collection of specialised cells (pancreatic cells, brain cells etc.)
from one species to another (i.e. pig to human)(NHMRC, 2002). Along with any risks to the recipient
of the transplant, xenotransplant carries risks for the community as well. The general public is
concerned about viruses transmitted through a transplanted organ from animals to humans which
makes this topic a social and ethical issue. Hence, the government imposed a temporary ban of 5 years
on xenotransplantation in Australia and New Zealand in 2004 (Vincent, 2009)(Writers, 2010). This
essay argues if xenotransplantation should be banned permanently in Australia by equally considering
the advantages and disadvantages of the treatment. BIOLOGICAL BACKGROUND To obtain organs
for xenotransplantation, pigs are considered the most suitable species because their organs are of
similar size to those of humans (NHMRC, 2002). An example of xenotransplantation is growing a
human pancreas in a pig for a patient suffering from chronic pancreatitis. This process of producing
chimeric pigs is described below: The DNA of a fertilised pig embryo (1 day old) containing the gene
responsible to grow pancreas is removed for gene deletion. Cas9, a DNA cutting enzyme, snips a
section of DNA using a complimentary guide RNA which is used to identify the gene of interest
(TRTWorld, 2016)(Belfast, 2016). Deleting this section results in pig foetus unable to grow a
pancreas. Image.1 Step.1 of Xenotransplantation Genetic Modification. Induced Pluripotent Stem
Cells (iPS Cells) are derived from the patient s blood or skin cells which have been reprogrammed to
an embryonic pluripotent state. This reprogramming allows the iPS

Alienation In A Rose For Emily
A Rose for Emily : Death By the Community In A Rose For Emily, William Faulkner portrays how
crippling alienation and slanderous gossip transform Emily Grierson into an unstable necrophile and
murderer. The townspeople regard Miss Emily as a symbol of their dignified past, but become
overcritical and apathetic towards her as events unfold. Even though Miss Emily is highly thought of,
women in the community display little sympathy or compassion after the death of her father, a
reaction that ultimately negatively impacts her ability to behave within an ordinary civilization.
However, when the townspeople show a blatant disregard for Emily, they fail to recognize that she is
damaged and deranged. They do not consider her feelings in the disastrous life around her, and even
exclaim , ... it would be the best thing if she killed herself (Faulkner). The townspeople discard her as
a lost cause, allowing her to harbor the detrimental feelings she has towards the loss of her father.
Although many may argue that Miss Emily s actions are caused by a mental disorder, the townspeople
s apathy, neglect, and inability to recognize her true feelings are the real cause of her scandalous
actions. In Miss Emily s early life, Miss Emily s father pushes everybody away from her because of
his arrogance. In her father s eyes, nobody is suitable for her traditional figure that her family upholds.
The townspeople believes that the Griersons family sees themselves as much too important,

Problems Faced With Airport Security
When tragedy struck the nation on September 11th, the minor problem of airport security breeches
suddenly became one of the biggest concerns facing our nation. Ever since the late 1980s there had
been many promises and plans to shape up airport security, but according to experts there has been
little, if any, real improvement in public safety since that time (Morris 28). Its obvious to assume that
because of the lack of improvement, great tragedy struck our nation on September 11th. Since
September 11th there has been great attempts in fixing the problems that we face with airport security,
but yet there are still breaches in airport security, we are still not safe. There are several factors behind
the problems with airport security; they range from inadequate machinery used, to poorly trained
screeners. A proposal needs to be raised, one that would seal up the remaining gaps that we still face
regarding the issue of airport security.
Due to all the complicated factors that we have to deal with in regards to airport security, a proposal
will be raised. With the proper precautions, the events of September 11th could have been prevented.
The question raised is, what are the problems with airport security? The issue rather complex involves
three main areas; they include policy, technology, and personnel. The main problem is the personnel,
and it starts with the screeners. A screener is someone who stands watch as travelers put their items on
the X ray conveyor belt (schwartz

Disillusionment In Frankenstein
Contemporary literature reflects on contemporary life and culture. It is sometimes reflected by a
persons disillusionment. In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley love glorified nature, dreams and
visions, the power of the individual, and one s emotions and feelings about something. In Mary
Shelley s Frankenstein, the character of the creature discovers a lack of love and passion within Victor
toward him which represents that man s need to inspire love causes him to become evil. In regards to
the character of Victor Frankenstein, he show his love for science. Shelley portrays love as a
contemporary monster.

for revenge. Interestingly, the monster s desire is important when one considers that Frankenstein
features non traditional case of love. By having the monster beg for a companion that will encircle the
traditional aspects of a human relationship comparable to the period of the book, Shelley adds to the
psychological makeup of the monster. This is because regardless of his non human nature, the monster

Plastic Surgery Becomes More Popular
As time progresses, plastic surgery becomes more popular. Plastic surgery isn t just what s seen on TV
and on social media; plastic surgery is much more than facelifts, rhinoplasty, and breast
enhancements. In fact, plastic surgery is anything that undergoes the process of reconstructing or
repairing parts of the body. (Reconstructive Surgery) The facelift Kris Jenner recently just had done is
equally considered plastic surgery as an ordinary person getting an extra finger removed. These are
both types of plastic surgery, but they re treated completely differently. A woman who gets cosmetic
surgery gets scorned for getting the procedure done, yet the person who went in to remove their extra
finger does not. In reality, these issues are quite similar. Plastic surgery is often the last resort for those
who want to desperately change how they look; those who get plastic surgery done are quickly judged
for doing so; however, both men and women should consider the reasons why a person might want
plastic surgery; the reasons behind this may be deeper than one thought. Those who get plastic surgery
get it for numerous reasons; one reason they get it done is for serious medical purposes. Those who
seek plastic surgery for medical purposes are doing it to fix abnormalities caused by accidents, birth
defects, and medical issues developed over time. An example of this would be a driver in a serious car
accident getting their finger ripped off by the force that hit them.

Essay on Pros and Cons of the Atkins and South Beach Diets
Pros and Cons of the Atkins and South Beach Diets
People consider many factors when choosing a diet: what best suites their needs, how it fits with their
body type, and what the diet entails, are all aspects taken into account. The Atkins and South Beach
diets are plans that take different approaches in style but end up having similar results in the end.
Atkins serves to eliminate carbohydrates and focus on more protein enriched foods; this idea sells
because it offers a way to lose weight fast. The South Beach diet on the other hand is a method that
takes a more balanced approach; it aims to teach people about the good carbohydrates and the good
fats versus the bad. Because these diets have both pros and cons, it ... Show more content on

This idea is one of many involving the pros and cons of the Atkins plan in comparison to diets similar
to it.
Another reason why so many people choose the Atkins plan is because dieters are allowed to consume
good tasting, fatty foods, during the induction phase of the diet. However, as tempting as these food
options may be, the end result shows an increase in cholesterol that is proven to have a negative effect
on the heart and body as a whole. Furthermore, another aspect of the Atkins diet is the fact that it is
proven to generate weight loss, however, the drawback is that the loss is only for a short amount of
time, and not easily maintained. The likelihood of losing the weight and keeping it off is something
that researchers are still trying to show as a possibility (Harper, 1). But there are alternatives to the
Atkins plan, the most common of which is Dr. Arthur Agatston s South Beach diet. While Atkins
serves to eliminate almost all carbohydrates and replace them with foods high in fat, the South Beach
diet attempts to simply teach people how to eat the good carbohydrates and fats, and eliminate the bad.
Not only does Dr. Agatston want to teach people the correct way to eat, he also reinstates the
importance of exercise intermixed with a healthy food regimen. Similar to the Atkins diet, South
Beach starts with a two week induction phase where

Incident Background On September 24, 2010, a laptop was stolen from an unlocked Urology office at
the Henry Ford Health Systems hospital. The laptop did contain password protection software;
however, it may not have been enough to permit access if the thief had advanced knowledge in
computers. Additionally, the information stored on the laptop did not include social security or health
insurance information, but instead held patient names, medical record numbers, dates of birth,
telephone numbers, e mail addresses, and treatment and doctor visits (Moscaritolo, 2010, p. 1). It is
unknown how many records were contained on the laptop, but all records were related to prostate

Skinner Operant Conditioning Theory
Operant conditioning is the reinforcement of a desired behaviour, learning can be achieved whereby a
response will come to be controlled by association of a consequence. Operant conditioning is
considered to be an extension of Edward Thorndike s law of effect explained as a person changing
their behaviour to replicate positive consequences and avoid negative consequences. B. F. Skinner,
professor of Psychology at Harvard University, expanded on Thorndike s theory (O Donohue
Ferguson, 2001). This essay will analyse Skinner s development of the theory of operant conditioning.
Skinner s theory and the studies he devised will be discussed and how they support operant
conditioning.
Skinner s studies were created to support his theory of operant conditioning. Skinner devised
experiments that were based in a laboratory involved a box commonly called a Skinner Box. The aim
of Skinner was to prove that operant conditioning was a more detailed theory than classical
conditioning; by placing animals inside the box to be observed. In his experiments he used positive
punishment that is adding an undesirable consequence for example electric shocks and positive
primary reinforcement in this case it was food. Skinner using shaping explained as, instead of
rewarding only when the subject exhibit a desired behaviour any behaviour is rewarded as long as it
leads to the target behaviour. The continued reinforcement either positive or negative explained as the
delivery of a consequence that

Solar Declares, Sunspots And Radiation
Solar flares, sunspots, and radiation are all things that are on the Sun and are important parts of the
weather on the Sun. Solar flares are short outbursts of energy on the sun. Sunspots are dark spots in
the sun from the contrast of its surroundings. Radiation from the sun is also known as sunlight.
Radiation is a mixture of electromagnetic waves that range from infrared to ultraviolet rays. Solar
flares are caused by a sudden release of energy that has been stored in twisted magnetic fields. The
energy of a solar flare is equal to ten million volcanic eruptions, and can last anywhere between a
couple minutes to hours on end. Solar flares happen in sunspots where the magnetic fields are strong
and active. Solar flares release an incredible amount of energy. It takes energy from the sun about
eight minutes to reach Earth.

  • 3. When Thinking Of Bob Dylan Deven Fiandaca English IV Mr. Wormwood Period 4 When thinking of Bob Dylan, two immediate things come to mind. First off, and most obvious, Mr. Dylan is known for his nasally voice. This seems to be the first topic of discussion when Bobs name comes up. Secondly, and more importantly, Bob is known for his talent of song writing, unlike many other artists in today s world, bob tells a story with all of his songs. Many of his songs are over 5 minutes long, for those who don t know much about music, this is extremely long. He takes time and puts in immense effort in all of his work, which is why Bob is known for his great work and the reason for Dylan winning the Nobel Prize for Literature this past year. Today, I will be reviewing and analyzing the album Desire by Bob Dylan. This album was released on January 5th, 1976. The entire albums length is 56 minutes and 13 seconds, consisting of 9 songs. This album contains one of Bob s most famous songs, which will be the first song I will be reviewing. The album was co written by Jacques Levy. The album is made up of many story songs. This album alone stirred up some controversy, regarding one of his songs named Joey . Joey was one of Bob s longest and most famous songs. The song has a length of 11 minutes. This piece by Dylan stirred up a lot of controversy regarding the gangster Crazy Joey Gallo. Although Gallo was accused of two murders, this song seems to be sympathizing and glorifying him. The song has to do with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Stress Of The Pain The pain, the stress, as the sound rings my ears, in a repetitive, persistent manner, in Search of relief, extending my arms with all the energy remaining, tempted to leave the noise in replace for a greater annoyance An hour until shift ends , i relieve the noise of its duty as the cold presses against my cheek. Hello this is Brian from Officeworks, How can I help you today . You guys sold me a faulty laptop, it s not turning on! Sir did you make sure the laptop is charged before you switched it on A sudden silence following a distinct short beep, Another idiot The clock struck 12 with great hesitation, the last few minutes are always the hardest, i snatched my backpack and paced out the room as the sound of the creaky door lingered, The thought of home tingled my senses, mostly because I don t have to hear about anyone complaining for the time being, well that Is except Mrs. Gonzalez, she s always yapping about how late I am on rent. It s all too exciting, everything was a blank, but it was the sight of the aged brick block of apartments that awoke me to my senses, the air is dense and the scent of old people intruded my sense of smell. I hand my pocket change to the homeless man who camps out the apartments, he quickly count the change and grins room 5.a, glad I wasn t stuck with the upper floors, it d make me feel like I m at work again as I whisper to myself, I jiggle the key out the rust, mortise lock, and swing the door open, at least what s left of ... • 5. Heart Of Darkness Human Nature I had no difficulty in finding the Company s offices. It was the biggest thing in the town, and everybody I met was full of it.... (1.22). The novella, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, is an extrospective look at man and his actions. Throughout the novella, human nature is discussed at great length as many unique individuals, show varying traits and desires, strive to accomplish great (or not so great) tasks. From imperialists, marauders, steam boat captains, or tribesman everyone succumbs to the same basic human emotions. The men and women in heart of Darkness portray the true nature of mankind. One of the earliest ideas of human nature presented is the striving for power or control. As Marlow s early life is discussed, the first examples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is reassured that the enemies are there. When Marlowe arrives at the camp, he makes note of the disturbing abuse of the slaves stating I could see every rib, the joints of their limbs were like knots in a rope; each had an iron collar around his neck... (ch1/pg53). The numerous, well armed, Europeans used their power to enslave the local populace to further their own gains. When Marlowe s ship came under fire from natives, the mere sound of the foghorn drove them away in fear. They truly had lost power over their situation. Some even joined Europeans like Kurtz. Human nature makes us strive towards the strong and abandon the weak. Those Natives who raided other natives villages sought power and security in a time of uncertainty. To truly signify power, Joseph Conrad used a symbol. In Heart of Darkness, Ivory is equivalent to power. Although it could easily be substituted to represent any number of things; money, strength, or stature. In Heart of Darkness, ivory is the major commodity and export of Africa. So, the imperialists want it. The main inspiration for Kurtz raids and killings (Besides being insane) is obtaining ivory. She then saw Douglas Black, MD. His notes were reviewed. She was seen here mainly for CPAP for her obstructive sleep apnea. At that time, she had multiple neurological complaints that were unchanging and nonspecific. She did have an MRI in 2010, which revealed a right cerebellar lacune. A repeat MRI in 2011 revealed age related white matter ischemic disease and the cerebellar lacune was not commented on. She states that she had dizziness years ago at the time that the slight CVA of the right cerebellar area was noted. This resolved. In 2000, she was in Florida and had the onset ... • 7. Multiple Intelligences Self Assessment Quiz I choose to take the Multiple Intelligences Self Assessment quiz. When I taught preschool and as the trainer for my department I have learned that there are many different methods in which people learn. I have learned to adapt how I teach and train based on what is required by the learner. Due to this I was curious to determine the variety of learning methods that work best for me. I discovered that I have a broad range of ways in which I learn best. I have always excelled at learning and find that I learn fairly quickly, so this is not surprising to me. What did surprise me was that my highest percentage was naturalistic. One question that I often ask is, Why? I enjoy having a knowledge of how things work and the ability to understand a variety of subjects, but did not realize how highly it impacted my learning. The few categories where I scored low were music and body kinesthetic. Neither of these surprise me much. When I work and am trying to concentrate I find that music and movement is very distracting. I have learned to eliminate them when focus and concentration is crucial. The rest of the categories I scored from 49% to 63%. I feel this explains my ability to learn a broad spectrum of things quickly no matter what the method of learning is. The two areas where I scored the highest were interpersonal and intrapersonal. This explains my drive for success, ability to gain insight into a variety of situations and people, my solid foundation in who I am and what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Exclusive Breastfeeding And Infant Mortality Exclusive Breastfeeding and Infant Mortality: If We Nudge, Will Mothers Budge? Section I: Introduction West Africa has the highest infant mortality rate in the world for every 1000 live births, 70 children die before their first birthday (Wang, 2014). National infant mortality rates vary from 18.8 deaths per 1000 live births in Cape Verde to 89.9 deaths per 1000 live births in Guinea Bissau. Nonetheless, the leading causes of infant mortality are largely the same across the region: neonatal conditions (26 percent), malaria (21 percent), pneumonia (21 percent), diarrhea (17 percent), measles (6 percent) and HIV/AIDS (4 percent). The desired children hypothesis of fertility asserts that high fertility primarily reflects desired number of children (Pritchett, 1994). In this regard, high infant mortality may motivate women to have more children to attain their preferred family size. Thus aside the important population health implications of reducing high infant mortality rates, demographic theory predicts that improved child survival is accompanied by declines in fertility reflecting reduced demand for replacement births to achieve a given target family size. The influence of reduced infant mortality on fertility decline has also been established empirically in a wide range of settings (Barnum, 1988). Declines in infant mortality, falls in fertility rates, and lower average family sizes lead to changes in population age structure and stimulate increased female labor ... A Short Note On Energy Drink And India Essay V energy drink was first launched in New Zealand in August 1977, it was first expected that the product would produce and sell domestically (within NZ). It was such a massive hit in NZ, it soon took over 60% of the overall drinks market in NZ in 2003 and over 53% in Australia, making it the most popular drink in both countries. V energy drink is currently being sold in 18 different countries including Spain, Australia, Argentina, and the UK. India is not currently selling V Energy drink. We have chosen to send this product to India because it has grown very popular in a short time, within NZ and Australia, and it has all the ingredients that would suit the Indian taste. The energy drinks market in India is at a nascent stage and it has huge potential for growth. There is more than one reason why I am taking this product to India and I will explain below.  cultural / social environment: Increased urbanisation, rising disposable income and growing health consciousness among the Indian youth has increased the demand for non carbonated drinks called energy drinks. At the same time long and erratic working hours and the increasing occurrence of social gatherings are driving Indian consumers towards consumption of energy drinks which are primarily classified as non alcoholic, caffeinated beverages and sports drinks. India is one of the fastest developing consumer markets, especially for a product targeted towards the young and as well as young adults, mostly belonging to upper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who is better to build a bond with each other than people that are going through the same turmoil? The Japanese people are stoic patriotic people. They did come together as a community to assist each other but they suffered through their pain alone. They did not look for sympathy or a shoulder to cry on. (Parfitt 84 88) This dynamic shapes the mutual mistrust that exists between black Jews in America and the overwhelmingly Ashkenazi majority. The problem of marginalization began with the waves of Jewish immigrants from Europe who fled the Russion pogroms and later the Nazis. In their homelands, these people were Jewish, but in America they had the opportunity to be white. In cementing their status as white, these Amnerican Jews further alienated the small minority of Jews of African descent and others who do not fit nicely into the white race group. Essay on How to Avoid Plagiarism How to Avoid Plagiarism Plagiarism is a growing problem in universities (Matheson Starr 2013) and becoming too common in the scientific world (Ober et al. 2012). Hence it is important for students as well as researchers to know how to avoid plagiarism. Before discussing the ways to avoid plagiarism, this paper discusses the definition, the types and reasons for plagiarism. Copying or borrowing someone else s words or ideas may perhaps be the more inoffensive way of explaining plagiarism. There are surely many other ways of avoiding plagiarism but there are five simple rules suggested by Ober et al. (2012). Rule 1: Do not copy It is not a good practice to simply copy what is found in other people s work, books or even your own writing. If you have to do so, do it properly by copying it with quotation marks and appropriate citation. In addition to this, it is good to have a proper time management in which you would have enough time to cite your sources properly. Rule 2: Write in your own words Paraphrasing means putting someone else s ideas into your own words but care must be taken as changing a few words and rearranging the original sentence is still considered as copying . Hence, though paraphrasing is commonly suggested as one of the ways to avoid plagiarism it is much better to avoid paraphrasing and rather use your own original voice . Rule 3: When in doubt, cite This is one of the ways to avoid plagiarism but it should not be done excessively. Otherwise you would end up with excessive citation in your piece of writing and lack of writing in your own words. This is an indication for you to consider rewriting the paper. Rule 4: Don t recycle images, figures, tables or text from one of your previously published papers without citing This is the case of self plagiarising when you republish a figure from earlier publication but fail to cite the original and obtain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They show that the apparent independent effects of victim race and gender on death sentences in Ohio actually are a product of the strong association between one victim race gender group of cases and the imposition of a death sentence. The comparison of specific race gender victim combinations reveals that white female victim cases are the only victim race gender combination in which the odds of receiving a death sentence are significantly different from any other reference group (i.e., white male, black female, or black male victims). They argue that the observed white female effect is consistent with the historically increased concern and ruthless response to the victimization of white females in American culture (Holcomb, Williams, and Demuth 886). The perceived victimization of white females, especially by nonwhite offenders, has considerable symbolic power in the United States and has been used to support a variety of social and political goals (Langum; Morgan 55). Perhaps related to this cultural history, white females may be perceived as the group most in need of protection from violence and least likely to be responsible for their victimization. Conversely, homicides with other victim groups may affect the focal concerns of decision makers in a manner that encourages a more lenient response compared with the victimization of white females. Unlike black females and males in general, for whom violence may be perceived as a more familiar experience (Hawkins 723); Spohn, violence against white females may represent a more serious threat because of the harm to perceived innocent victims a major factor in capital jury decision making (Sundby ... The second wave (1960 s 1980 s) stressed on broadening the discussions to a wider range. Xenotransplantation involves grafting or transplanting live organs (heart, kidney, liver etc.), tissues (skin tissues) or a collection of specialised cells (pancreatic cells, brain cells etc.) from one species to another (i.e. pig to human)(NHMRC, 2002). Along with any risks to the recipient of the transplant, xenotransplant carries risks for the community as well. The general public is concerned about viruses transmitted through a transplanted organ from animals to humans which makes this topic a social and ethical issue. Hence, the government imposed a temporary ban of 5 years on xenotransplantation in Australia and New Zealand in 2004 (Vincent, 2009)(Writers, 2010). This essay argues if xenotransplantation should be banned permanently in Australia by equally considering the advantages and disadvantages of the treatment. BIOLOGICAL BACKGROUND To obtain organs for xenotransplantation, pigs are considered the most suitable species because their organs are of similar size to those of humans (NHMRC, 2002). An example of xenotransplantation is growing a human pancreas in a pig for a patient suffering from chronic pancreatitis. This process of producing chimeric pigs is described below: The DNA of a fertilised pig embryo (1 day old) containing the gene responsible to grow pancreas is removed for gene deletion. Cas9, a DNA cutting enzyme, snips a section of DNA using a complimentary guide RNA which is used to identify the gene of interest (TRTWorld, 2016)(Belfast, 2016). Deleting this section results in pig foetus unable to grow a pancreas. Image.1 Step.1 of Xenotransplantation Genetic Modification. Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPS Cells) are derived from the patient s blood or skin cells which have been reprogrammed to an embryonic pluripotent state. This reprogramming allows the iPS ... • 29. Alienation In A Rose For Emily A Rose for Emily : Death By the Community In A Rose For Emily, William Faulkner portrays how crippling alienation and slanderous gossip transform Emily Grierson into an unstable necrophile and murderer. The townspeople regard Miss Emily as a symbol of their dignified past, but become overcritical and apathetic towards her as events unfold. Even though Miss Emily is highly thought of, women in the community display little sympathy or compassion after the death of her father, a reaction that ultimately negatively impacts her ability to behave within an ordinary civilization. However, when the townspeople show a blatant disregard for Emily, they fail to recognize that she is damaged and deranged. They do not consider her feelings in the disastrous life around her, and even exclaim , ... it would be the best thing if she killed herself (Faulkner). The townspeople discard her as a lost cause, allowing her to harbor the detrimental feelings she has towards the loss of her father. Although many may argue that Miss Emily s actions are caused by a mental disorder, the townspeople s apathy, neglect, and inability to recognize her true feelings are the real cause of her scandalous actions. In Miss Emily s early life, Miss Emily s father pushes everybody away from her because of his arrogance. In her father s eyes, nobody is suitable for her traditional figure that her family upholds. The townspeople believes that the Griersons family sees themselves as much too important, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Problems Faced With Airport Security When tragedy struck the nation on September 11th, the minor problem of airport security breeches suddenly became one of the biggest concerns facing our nation. Ever since the late 1980s there had been many promises and plans to shape up airport security, but according to experts there has been little, if any, real improvement in public safety since that time (Morris 28). Its obvious to assume that because of the lack of improvement, great tragedy struck our nation on September 11th. Since September 11th there has been great attempts in fixing the problems that we face with airport security, but yet there are still breaches in airport security, we are still not safe. There are several factors behind the problems with airport security; they range from inadequate machinery used, to poorly trained screeners. A proposal needs to be raised, one that would seal up the remaining gaps that we still face regarding the issue of airport security. Due to all the complicated factors that we have to deal with in regards to airport security, a proposal will be raised. With the proper precautions, the events of September 11th could have been prevented. The question raised is, what are the problems with airport security? The issue rather complex involves three main areas; they include policy, technology, and personnel. The main problem is the personnel, and it starts with the screeners. A screener is someone who stands watch as travelers put their items on the X ray conveyor belt (schwartz ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Plastic Surgery Becomes More Popular As time progresses, plastic surgery becomes more popular. Plastic surgery isn t just what s seen on TV and on social media; plastic surgery is much more than facelifts, rhinoplasty, and breast enhancements. In fact, plastic surgery is anything that undergoes the process of reconstructing or repairing parts of the body. (Reconstructive Surgery) The facelift Kris Jenner recently just had done is equally considered plastic surgery as an ordinary person getting an extra finger removed. These are both types of plastic surgery, but they re treated completely differently. A woman who gets cosmetic surgery gets scorned for getting the procedure done, yet the person who went in to remove their extra finger does not. In reality, these issues are quite similar. Plastic surgery is often the last resort for those who want to desperately change how they look; those who get plastic surgery done are quickly judged for doing so; however, both men and women should consider the reasons why a person might want plastic surgery; the reasons behind this may be deeper than one thought. Those who get plastic surgery get it for numerous reasons; one reason they get it done is for serious medical purposes. Those who seek plastic surgery for medical purposes are doing it to fix abnormalities caused by accidents, birth defects, and medical issues developed over time. An example of this would be a driver in a serious car accident getting their finger ripped off by the force that hit them. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Pros and Cons of the Atkins and South Beach Diets Pros and Cons of the Atkins and South Beach Diets People consider many factors when choosing a diet: what best suites their needs, how it fits with their body type, and what the diet entails, are all aspects taken into account. The Atkins and South Beach diets are plans that take different approaches in style but end up having similar results in the end. Atkins serves to eliminate carbohydrates and focus on more protein enriched foods; this idea sells because it offers a way to lose weight fast. The South Beach diet on the other hand is a method that takes a more balanced approach; it aims to teach people about the good carbohydrates and the good fats versus the bad. Because these diets have both pros and cons, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This idea is one of many involving the pros and cons of the Atkins plan in comparison to diets similar to it. Another reason why so many people choose the Atkins plan is because dieters are allowed to consume good tasting, fatty foods, during the induction phase of the diet. However, as tempting as these food options may be, the end result shows an increase in cholesterol that is proven to have a negative effect on the heart and body as a whole. Furthermore, another aspect of the Atkins diet is the fact that it is proven to generate weight loss, however, the drawback is that the loss is only for a short amount of time, and not easily maintained. The likelihood of losing the weight and keeping it off is something that researchers are still trying to show as a possibility (Harper, 1). But there are alternatives to the Atkins plan, the most common of which is Dr. Arthur Agatston s South Beach diet. While Atkins serves to eliminate almost all carbohydrates and replace them with foods high in fat, the South Beach diet attempts to simply teach people how to eat the good carbohydrates and fats, and eliminate the bad. Not only does Dr. Agatston want to teach people the correct way to eat, he also reinstates the importance of exercise intermixed with a healthy food regimen. The laptop did contain password protection software; however, it may not have been enough to permit access if the thief had advanced knowledge in computers. Additionally, the information stored on the laptop did not include social security or health insurance information, but instead held patient names, medical record numbers, dates of birth, telephone numbers, e mail addresses, and treatment and doctor visits (Moscaritolo, 2010, p. 1). It is unknown how many records were contained on the laptop, but all records were related to prostate services that were provided during an eleven year span. • 37. Skinner Operant Conditioning Theory Operant conditioning is the reinforcement of a desired behaviour, learning can be achieved whereby a response will come to be controlled by association of a consequence. Operant conditioning is considered to be an extension of Edward Thorndike s law of effect explained as a person changing their behaviour to replicate positive consequences and avoid negative consequences. B. F. Skinner, professor of Psychology at Harvard University, expanded on Thorndike s theory (O Donohue Ferguson, 2001). This essay will analyse Skinner s development of the theory of operant conditioning. Skinner s theory and the studies he devised will be discussed and how they support operant conditioning. Skinner s studies were created to support his theory of operant conditioning. Skinner devised experiments that were based in a laboratory involved a box commonly called a Skinner Box. The aim of Skinner was to prove that operant conditioning was a more detailed theory than classical conditioning; by placing animals inside the box to be observed. In his experiments he used positive punishment that is adding an undesirable consequence for example electric shocks and positive primary reinforcement in this case it was food. Skinner using shaping explained as, instead of rewarding only when the subject exhibit a desired behaviour any behaviour is rewarded as long as it leads to the target behaviour. The continued reinforcement either positive or negative explained as the delivery of a consequence that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Solar flares are short outbursts of energy on the sun. Sunspots are dark spots in the sun from the contrast of its surroundings. Radiation from the sun is also known as sunlight. Radiation is a mixture of electromagnetic waves that range from infrared to ultraviolet rays. Solar flares are caused by a sudden release of energy that has been stored in twisted magnetic fields. The energy of a solar flare is equal to ten million volcanic eruptions, and can last anywhere between a couple minutes to hours on end. Solar flares happen in sunspots where the magnetic fields are strong and active. Solar flares release an incredible amount of energy. It takes energy from the sun about eight minutes to reach Earth.
