WHY advertising?
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIBY THE TIME YOU ARE 65,YOU WOULD HAVE SPENTNINE YEARSIN FRONT OF THE TVsource: TV Free America
No, it's not your imagination. The amount of advertising and marketing North Americans are exposed to daily has exploded over the past decade; studies show, that on average we see 3,000 ads per day. At the gas pumps, in the movie theatre, in a washroom stall, during sporting events—advertising is impossible to avoid.
Each day, more than 3,900 kids become regular smokers.
Your assignment: To create a mock “billboard,” with Time Square as the site, that communicates a message you want to tell the world. YOU are the advertiser. You can use image alone, or image with a small amount of text.
Your goals: To wonder about “big idea” messages that have personal meaning to you. Try out a few…To develop a “billboard” through collage. To unify text and image into a communicable message. To craft your artwork, use basic graphic principles such as light/dark/ symmetry/asymetry.To complete the project as much as possible in class.
You should ask yourself:WHAT do I want to say?HOW do the given materials behave?WHY do this?
