1. Spinal cord injuries are commonly caused by motor vehicle accidents and falls and most often occur in the cervical and thoracolumbar regions. 2. Injuries can be complete or incomplete based on whether the spinal cord is fully or partially severed, and cause varying losses of motor and sensory function below the level of injury. 3. Common syndromes include anterior cord syndrome which causes motor and sensory deficits, and Brown-Sequard syndrome where function is lost on one side of the body below the injury.
