• Pop art is an art movement that emerged in
the late 1950s and flourished in the 1960s in
the US and the UK. Pop art was born by
drawing inspiration from sources in
popular and commercial culture, different
cultures and countries contributed to
the movement during the 1960s and 70s.
• The most popular pop art artists are : Andy
Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert
Rauschenberg and Peter bake.
• Tate modern: Is housed in the
former bankside power station, it was built in
between 1947 and 1963 and designed by Sir
Giles Gilbert Scott, the architect of Battersea
Power Station.
• Eden gallery: Eden Gallery showcases and
presents a unique collection of vibrant
artwork by a group of contemporary
artists. Eden Gallery holds a diverse amount of
artwork that includes paintings, sculptures,
and three-dimensional shadow boxes

• Pop art is an artistic movement which appeared in England in the mid 50’s and concurrently in the United States a bit later
towards the end of the decade. It emerged in opposition to the traditional approach the world had towards art. The movement
claimed that elements and symbols of popular culture and mass consumption could be on par with fine arts. Pop art denatures
the material from its environment by isolating the object or combining it with others of daily use. Known in the world as a major
artistic movement of the 20th century, Warhol’s Marilyn became the emblem of pop art. It was characterized by topics
emerging from western popular culture, especially American. Whether it be comic strips, ads, movie or music stars, everyday
objects, and pop art is interpreted as a rejection of imagery of abstract expressionism. The rather pejorative “pop” designation
of the movement referred to pop music greatly rising during that period. It’s a message addressed to the elitist artistic culture
which was waning from its lack of accessibility to the public on a visual and intellectual level.
• Pop art was born in Great-Britain at a time where it was heavily influenced by American culture. A lot of the biggest names of
the movement were American. There is thus a strong proximity and connection between the movement as it evolved in the US
and in England. However, differences can be found. In the US, pop art is a return to compositions described as “hard-edged”,
using mundane reality, popular culture, irony and sarcasm. On the other hand in England, the movement started out with a
more academic vision. The focus was put on energetic and paradoxical figuration of American pop culture, as it can be find in

TASK 2A – IDEA GENERATION
[INDIVIDUAL]
• With my Poster I focused mainly on the art style of Roy
Lichtenstein's pop art’s as they are very eye-catching and
makes it obvious that my poster is about pop art or rather an
event regarding pop art.
• With my title I also focused on Roy Lichtenstein's art style as it
seems to ‘pop’ out to those who view it as the background is
red and the title is yellow which are both complimentary
colours.
• With the backdrop I also focused on the art style of Roy
Lichtenstein as I used one of his arts as a overlay over my work
TASK 2C – PLANNING
• I didn’t do much planning as I mostly did
stuff that came out of my head, but I did
plan the title which was present in my final
product

PP and your final products – the post on your blog

• Describe three strengths of your final pieces.
• 1 – ‘pops’ out at you
• 2 – easy to find information
• 3 – Uses a consistent style

• Describe three areas for improvement in your final pieces.
• 1 – could have used a better font that’s easier on those who cannot read that well
• 2 – could have added more pop-arty things (speech bubbles and things like that)
• 3 – could have added a map of where it is
TASK 4 – EVALUATION – PROBLEM
SOLVING
• Describe three problems you faced in your project and how you solved these
• 1 – sometimes when I tried to add the overlay of the woman’s face it kept showing
up with a white border around it, so I removed the background on a website that
removes backgrounds
• 2 – with the title I didn’t know what I wanted to do so I wasted time trying to make
it stand out when in the end I just added one ‘action’ bubble and it stood out well
• 3 – I struggled with the controls of photoshop but after a while I quickly learned
how everything worked
TASK 4 – EVALUATION – WORKING
WITH OTHERS
• Choose three aspects of your production where you worked well with your team
and this benefited the project
• 1- when we were adding info we all added things equally
• 2 – when we were adding photos they were all good quality photos from all of us
• 3 – we all listened well to each other and took each others advice
TASK 4 – EVALUATION - FEEDBACK
• Discuss the feedback you received from your tutor during the project and how you
used this to improve the project

  • 4. TASK 1 – RESEARCH – WEB SOURCE • Pop art is an art movement that emerged in the late 1950s and flourished in the 1960s in the US and the UK. Pop art was born by drawing inspiration from sources in popular and commercial culture, different cultures and countries contributed to the movement during the 1960s and 70s. • The most popular pop art artists are : Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg and Peter bake. • Tate modern: Is housed in the former bankside power station, it was built in between 1947 and 1963 and designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the architect of Battersea Power Station. • Eden gallery: Eden Gallery showcases and presents a unique collection of vibrant artwork by a group of contemporary artists.   • 5. AMERICAN VS BRITISH POP ART • Pop art is an artistic movement which appeared in England in the mid 50’s and concurrently in the United States a bit later towards the end of the decade. It emerged in opposition to the traditional approach the world had towards art. The movement claimed that elements and symbols of popular culture and mass consumption could be on par with fine arts. Pop art denatures the material from its environment by isolating the object or combining it with others of daily use. Known in the world as a major artistic movement of the 20th century, Warhol’s Marilyn became the emblem of pop art. It was characterized by topics emerging from western popular culture, especially American. Whether it be comic strips, ads, movie or music stars, everyday objects, and pop art is interpreted as a rejection of imagery of abstract expressionism. The rather pejorative “pop” designation of the movement referred to pop music greatly rising during that period. It’s a message addressed to the elitist artistic culture which was waning from its lack of accessibility to the public on a visual and intellectual level. • Pop art was born in Great-Britain at a time where it was heavily influenced by American culture. A lot of the biggest names of the movement were American. There is thus a strong proximity and connection between the movement as it evolved in the US and in England. However, differences can be found. In the US, pop art is a return to compositions described as “hard-edged”, using mundane reality, popular culture, irony and sarcasm. On the other hand in England, the movement started out with a more academic vision. The focus was put on energetic and paradoxical figuration of American pop culture, as it can be find in the works of Richard Hamilton. TASK 2A – IDEA GENERATION [INDIVIDUAL] • With my Poster I focused mainly on the art style of Roy Lichtenstein's pop art’s as they are very eye-catching and makes it obvious that my poster is about pop art or rather an event regarding pop art. • With my title I also focused on Roy Lichtenstein's art style as it seems to ‘pop’ out to those who view it as the background is red and the title is yellow which are both complimentary colours. • With the backdrop I also focused on the art style of Roy Lichtenstein as I used one of his arts as a overlay over my work
  • 13. TASK 2C – PLANNING • I didn’t do much planning as I mostly did stuff that came out of my head, but I did plan the title which was present in my final product

  • 16. TASK 4 – EVALUATION – PRODUCTION • Describe three strengths of your final pieces. • 1 – ‘pops’ out at you • 2 – easy to find information • 3 – Uses a consistent style

TASK 4 – EVALUATION – PRODUCTION • Describe three areas for improvement in your final pieces. • 1 – could have used a better font that’s easier on those who cannot read that well • 2 – could have added more pop-arty things (speech bubbles and things like that) • 3 – could have added a map of where it is

TASK 4 – EVALUATION – PROBLEM SOLVING • Describe three problems you faced in your project and how you solved these • 1 – sometimes when I tried to add the overlay of the woman’s face it kept showing up with a white border around it, so I removed the background on a website that removes backgrounds • 2 – with the title I didn’t know what I wanted to do so I wasted time trying to make it stand out when in the end I just added one ‘action’ bubble and it stood out well • 3 – I struggled with the controls of photoshop but after a while I quickly learned how everything worked

TASK 4 – EVALUATION – WORKING WITH OTHERS • Choose three aspects of your production where you worked well with your team and this benefited the project • 1- when we were adding info we all added things equally • 2 – when we were adding photos they were all good quality photos from all of us • 3 – we all listened well to each other and took each others advice
  • 20. TASK 4 – EVALUATION - FEEDBACK • Discuss the feedback you received from your tutor during the project and how you used this to improve the project Scott told me that less is more and it really helped me with the overall project as it made me think about my project in a different light instead of adding literally everything into it
