This document discusses a single tuned Class C RF amplifier. A Class C amplifier has a negative voltage at the base and zero volts at the emitter, reverse biasing the base-emitter junction. It will only conduct a small pulse through the collector output when the signal voltage reaches 4.7V. A Class C amplifier is very efficient but has little usefulness. It is commonly used in radio frequency applications where the collector resonant circuit responds to voltage impulses by ringing at its resonant frequency, like pushing a swing. This allows the resonant circuit to continue ringing and restoring the sine wave at the output.
