The circulatory system consists of two circuits - systemic and pulmonary. The vascular system includes arteries, which carry blood away from the heart, and veins, which carry blood back to the heart. The aorta branches into smaller arteries that supply different regions of the body with blood. The ascending aorta branches into the right and left coronary arteries to supply the heart. The arch of the aorta branches into arteries that supply the head and neck. The abdominal aorta branches to supply the abdomen, pelvis and lower limbs. Veins collect deoxygenated blood and return it to the right atrium or inferior vena cava which returns to the heart.
