Missile Crisis
Imagine being in grade school and having your teacher yell instructions to hide under your desk
because of a possible missile attack, not knowing if you ll see tomorrow. This possible scenario is
what children feared in late 1962. The uncertainty of life during this time and the actions taken by
teachers and students intrigue me, like how they thought that a thin piece of wood and metal would
save them from an atomic missile. In reality, nothing, including themselves, would be left standing.
In October 1962, off the coast of Florida in the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean sailed the navy ships
of the Soviet Union and the United States. With the two mightiest nations on Earth facing each other,
World War III was on the brink of happening. With missiles in Cuba secretly provided by the Soviet
Union and discovered by in a photo from a United States satellite, the world was on the edge to see
who blinked first. As this was happening the citizens of the U.S. were taking actions. At every school
students had to do drills in case of an attack. Sometimes teachers would randomly yell, Drop! and the
kids would get on their hands and knees under the desks. They didn t tell us why they only told us to
get under our desks. I don t know why they thought a desk was going to save us. (Interview with
Diane Strohm, student during missile crisis). Some schools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Some citizens sparked protests and sent letters to President John F. Kennedy. Others built bomb
shelters in case of an air raid. America was a very tense democracy during this time of the cold war.
Eventually, on October 28, America cried with joy! The Cuban missile crisis was finally over! The
missile crisis ended by Kennedy taking out the missiles from Turkey and secretly agreeing not to
invade Cuba. The Soviet Union also took out its missiles in Cuba. The citizens were

San Elizario
San Elizario is a beautiful small town, with a loving and united community. It has a historical
background in which it makes it even more special. We see many tourists hang at the Placita where the
chapel is located but I am sure the tourists are aware of the surroundings, like the houses, and the
streets, they are not pleasurable to watch. There is countless of trash around the streets, also including
the houses front yards. I come to propose if we put more trash cans all around town, there would be
less littering. To increase sanitation, we can set up community walks at least once a month, to clean
our yards and the streets around the area we live in. As a result, the entire community will benefit by
this cleanup project. For this to happen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when a single string is pulled, it rips, but when multiple strings are put together and they
are pulled, it is harder to be ripped apart. With this being said let s all come together as one, because
alone we can only do so little, and together we can accomplish so much more. Encourage your
children to throw trash in the trash can and not on the floor, but set the example first. It all starts at
home; I encourage for you to clean your yard, like picking up trash and cutting weeds. As a result, I
guarantee your kids will watch and will get motivated to do it too, and who knows your actions can
even motivate a neighbor. And now that we are getting more people involve, it s time to expand from
our homes to the streets, to then the entire

An Accidental Man Made Disaster
A disaster is a highly disruptive event that causes suffering, hardship, injury, and even death
(Anderson McFarlane, 2015). A disaster can cause interruptions in businesses, and can cause partial or
total destruction to infrastructure, such as homes or hospitals (Anderson McFarlane, 2015). A disaster
can cause downed power lines, loss of transportation, loss of food, and sanitation problems. Disasters
are caused by naturally occurring events or man made events. Examples of naturally occurring
disasters are earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes. Man made disasters are accidental,
unintentional, or deliberately caused (Anderson McFarlane, 2015). An accidental man made disaster
example would be a toxic spill, or a nuclear power plant event. A deliberately caused man made
disaster would be a terrorist attack, school violence, or a bombing. Certain types of natural disasters
are more likely to occur in certain areas than others. For instance, areas along the coastline are more
likely to experience a hurricane than areas more inland. Every place one can live is prone to having a
natural disaster occur. Also, a man made disaster can happen anywhere; no place is safe from the
threat of terrorism. In my community of Mt. Lebanon, the biggest natural disaster that has happened
was flooding. About fifteen years ago, Mt. Lebanon had a terroristic attack. The terroristic attack was
a deliberate man made disaster. A man went on a racially motivated crime spree, killing five

A Summary Of The Ancient Greek And The Byzantine Empires
Both the Ancient Greek and the Byzantine Empires have a long and familiar history with warfare,
acclimated to crushing losses and sweeping victories. In Greece, military action has fended off the
Persian invaders and brought warring city states deep set rivalries. Within the Byzantine Empire,
conquest has brought Rome back into the Roman Empire. Despite both civilizations high esteem in
military conquest and glory, they had contrasting views of warfare and how their respective armies
went to work. The Greek Classical Terracotta volute krater, attributed to the Painter of the Woolly
Satyr, illustrates two messy front line battles in separate registers. Meanwhile, from the Early
Byzantine period, the silver Plate with the Battle of David and Goliath depicts not so much a battle
between two armies, but rather a dramatic yet organized duel, over the course of 3 registers. From
these two pieces, one could all but assume one statement: of the artists and commissioners of the
terracotta volute krater and the Plate with the Battle of David and Goliath, only those of the former
have seen battle. In the terracotta volute krater, the viewer immediately sees from any angle that there
is indeed a raging battle afoot in the register occupying the body of the vase. The amazonachae, a
battle between the mythical Amazon (a race of warrior women) and Greeks, were a popular subject of
works, particularly in Athens. On one face of the neck of the vase, there rages a fight between centaurs
and Lapiths. Meanwhile, the Byzantine Plate with the Battle of David and Goliath depicts the titular
duel from the holy text. Despite drawing the viewer s eyes to the larger middle register depicting the
biblical fight, the silver plate s top register begins the plate s narrative: David is confronting the giant
Goliath. More importantly, among the two holding their hands out in blessing (thumb to ring finger),
David has the the blessing of God (depicted as a hand descending from the sky). In this narrative,
David s victory is assured; after all, he has the approval of God; such is not the case in the
amazonachae nor the centauromachia depicted on the volute krater, in which victory is still uncertain.
Needless to say, these works of art do not

The Ultimate battle of Good vs Evil in Beowulf
The story of Beowulf involves a man who accomplishes many unbelievable feats. These feats help to
save the Danes from evil beasts. The idea of good and evil opposing one another has been a topic for
discussion since man s existence. This idea is seen all around us in movies (Superheroes vs Villains),
the world (ISIS), and religion (God is good, Satan is evil). The story of Beowulf is has the theme of
good versus evil imbedded into it also. Beowulf is an Old English epic that has many conflicts
between its characters, these conflicts between the characters give the theme of good versus evil in the
epic. The conflicts are more than just man versus self or man verves man. The conflicts are man
versus evil, as Beowulf is a man who is defending humanity from the beasts of hell. Beowulf along
with the rest of humanity is seen as the good , whereas the monsters are seen as the evil . Beowulf
unlike other famous warriors did not fight for his country against others like Achilles, he instead
fought against hellish monsters for the sake of man. There are symbols in the epic that represent good,
Beowulf himself is a symbol for good. There are outside sources that influence the conflict as well,
The Bible s story of Cain influences the readers to determine his spawns to be evil, as he was.
Throughout the novel one theme is extremely clear the theme of good versus evil, it is seen

The Religious Meaning Of Maus, By Art Spiegelman
People fall under three categories of learners: auditory learners, reading/writing learners, and visual
learners. Reading the comic book Maus readers can use two, out of three categories of learning. The
author of the book, Art Spiegelman, has facilitate comprehending of the book, by drawing the
character s nationalities and ethnicity, each as a different animal faces. He has represented the Jews as
mice, the Germans as cats, the non Jewish Americans as dogs (and African Americans as dark colored
dogs), the Poles as pigs, the French as frogs, the Swedes as reindeer, the British as fish, and the
Gypsies as gypsy moths. This universality is mitigated to some extent in the novel s first volume by
the fact that Spiegelman uses the animal metaphor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As shown above, this is the introduction of the second volume of Maus. Contents is quite strong. It
summers up the ideology of the Nazi Germany, the way they persecuted the Jews. Germans could see
Mickey Mouse as a general representation of Jews. Curios is that some readers of the Maus had seen
the mice, Jewish representation as the famous comic character (...) as anthropomorphic mice, drawn in
a simple, iconic style, having more in common with Mickey Mouse than genuine mice, and thus easy

How Does Sharon Russell Create Suspense In The Monkey s Paw
Horror, described by Sharon Russell, should not be by the monster, but instead by the content of the
story or poem. In The Monkey s Paw , Mr. White recieves a monkey s paw, that grants magical
wishes. He first wishes for money but realizes that the money came from the compensation of his son
s death. Later in his wife wishes for his son to come back, but he came back in the form he was
deceased in. Quickly, Mr. White wishes for his son to die again. In this short story W.W. Jacobs
matched what Sharon Russell was saying about how the plot can be seen on how the main character

Jacobs The Monkey s Paw . In each story, W.W. Jacobs used the elements of suspense, setting, and
how the main character sees the supernatural to show horror to the reader. The suspense of the first
part of the short story that included added suspense is horror because Major Morris described the paw
being the reason of the first man s death. The third part of The Monkey s Paw shows how the main
character views the supernatural added horror because you never knew what Mrs. White would do to
the paw, or what would happen once Mr. White wished upon the paw. Finally, the setting of the first
part of the short story shows horror because it set the mood of a dark, mysterious, old, house that
Sharon Russell said was often found in horror stories. The short story The Monkey s Paw by W.W.

The Relevence of Carbon-14
A human skeleton is discovered at a new construction site outside a small town in Nebraska. The
remains could be from someone who died within the past 100 years or the past 1000 years or even
longer. An archeologist from a local university is called in to examine the remains. He finds evidence
that the skeleton may indeed be very old. To determine its age, he uses radiometric dating.
Radiometric dating is based on analyzing the amount of carbon 14 in an ancient example of once
living substantial, related to what is found in a current sample of active material. The important
material on which it is established is that carbon 14 has always been constructed at the same level in
the greater atmosphere for all history.
An element is radioactive if its atomic nuclei are unstable. The nucleus holds neutrons and protons;
the electromagnetic force separates the protons because they have an equivalent charge, but the strong
nuclear force pulls the protons and neutrons closer together. A nucleus is only unchanging if it has an
even balance of protons and neutrons, or also doesn t have any extra energy. Radiocarbon dating only
works on things that were once alive and are now dead.
The level of carbon 14 in an artifact reduces by 50% every 5730 years from the moment that the raw
material from which the artifact is made no longer is exchanging carbon with he atmosphere, in most
cases this is the point of death of the animal or plant.
Carbon 14 is produced naturally in the upper

Macbeth Hubris Analysis
In the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the definition of hubris is [e]xaggerated pride or self confidence.
Hubris is also known as ego, and when someone has an overly large ego, it could lead them to their
demise. In William Shakespeare s play Macbeth, this is what the tragic hero s downfall results in. In
the play Macbeth, Shakespeare shares the story of a warrior named Macbeth and the path he takes to
become king and how his hubris, or ego, ultimately leads him to his own demise. Shakespeare also
introduces the audience to Banquo, Lady Macbeth, Malcolm, and Macduff as other important
characters throughout the play. Another problem with an overly large hubris is that if placed in the
wrong hands, it can be a dangerous weapon of mass destruction as shown by Macbeth. There are
many different factors that do influence Macbeth to his demise. Theses influences include the witches
as well as his own wife, Lady Macbeth. Although these people did influence Macbeth to lead him to
his own demise, it is Macbeth s fault for letting his hubris get in his way of success which ultimately
leads him to his own demise. Even though Macbeth is influenced by not only the witches, but his wife
as well, the majority of his demise comes from within himself through his excessive amount of hubris.
One way Shakespeare foreshadows Macbeth s ego leading him to his demise is when the witches say,
Fair is foul, and foul is fair (Shakespeare 1). What Shakespeare is trying to hint to the reader is that by
the end of the play, the witches will succeed in turning anything fair into foul, referring to Macbeth.
Another way that Macbeth lets his ego lead to his demise is when he says, Thou marvel st at my words
(Shakespeare 95). What Shakespeare is trying to show the audience when Macbeth says this to Lady
Macbeth is that he now is sort of looking down at his wife and talking to her as if she is one the
peasants he rules over, ultimately believing that his wife is not as powerful as him. Another way he
lets his ego get the best of him is when he decides to kill Banquo and Fleance because he is worried
that either Banquo and Fleance will try to forcefully take his throne out from under him. One example
of this is when Macbeth says, Full

Phineas Gage Summary
Imagine your sitting at home watching the news, a reporter talks about a man surviving a three foot
iron pole being blown through his skull and taking a chunk of his brain out. This was an actual story
that happened to a man named Phineas Gage back in 1848, long before modern neuroscience and
medication. Gage was a railroad track builder for the town of Cavendish, Vermont. While he was
working, a man uses dynamite to blow away rocks that are blocking the way of the railroad tracks.
The dynamite goes off to early and sends a tamping iron, a rod used for beating down earthly
substance in tamping for blasting, straight through Gage s head. The rob goes through his left cheek
and his eye, it splits his optic nerve, and then comes out his forehead. Gage lived through this horrible
incident and he s was still able to speak and move around, but he was not the same ... Show more

It amazes me that this man was able to survive such a horrendous experience. I did some research on
what parts of his brain were actually destroyed. The frontal lobes, limbic system, and anything in
between the two were obliterated. As you all know, the frontal lobes deal mostly with receiving and
coordinating messages from other lobes, while the limbic system controls your emotions and
drives(hunger, dominance,etc.). So my prediction is that his limbic system was definitely abolished,
but his frontal lobes were merely damaged. The fontal lobes also help the brain with motor control and
speech production which Gage still had. So the only explanation I can come up with is that limbic
system got shut down and the neurotransmitters shut down as well which stopped sending messages to
the frontal lobe. With the frontal lobe not receiving any messages from the limbic system, Gages
emotions went rampant, going from a really nice guy to a really not so nice guy. By knowing more
about Mr. Gage and what he went through, I now know why he acted the way he

Politeness Principle 1. Introduction Roman Holiday is a classical romance comedy film in which a

makes a deep impression on the audience with its funny plots and expressive dialogues. However,
most of the critics attribute its success to the plot arrangement and actors performance. As far as the

Mountain Pine Beetle Research Paper
Our forests are extremely vital and important to our world and society. They supply us with oxygen
and other essiential human needs. However, the number of trees in our forests has been decreasing at
an alarming rate due to human interaction and other factors. There have been desperate attempts in
order to increase the number of trees in our forests as well. Scientists have experimented with
biotechnology in order to test factors that affect trees. In this paper, I will review loblolly pines, and
mountain pine beetles, and discuss which will have more of an effect on the number of trees in our
forests.

However I believe that the affects of mountain pine beetle will have a more major impact on the
number of trees in our forests
The ideas of cloning and regeneration of loblolly pines discussed by Li and Gupta are effective and
work. However, we as a society simply don t have the time, money, research or manpower to be
constantly regenerating clones and cloning loblolly pines. The process also has negative effects on our
environment and our health. Loblolly pines can also only be cloned or regenerated in small numbers
and it s not enough to compensate for the number of dying trees. Due to these reasons, the idea of
cloning and regeneration of loblolly pines is not practical and is not enough to compensate for the
mass number of dying trees.
However, Mountain Pine Beetles are extremely destructive and devasting to forests. Even though
there is no direct correlation between Mountain Pine Beetles and forest fires, they are still destructive
nevertheless. Mountain Pine Beetles do have the time, and manpower to continue to cause mass
deforestation. Another reason is that there have been attempts to clone these beetles. Keeling
attempted to clone the particle that triggers the attack of the mountain pine beetles. With even more
potential beetles, these beetles will most definitely continue to wreak havoc across the forests of

The International Commercial Arbitration Process
The International Commercial Arbitration process is a means whereby disputes related to businesses
involving transnational parties are resolved by using arbitrators instead of taking the matter through a
judicial system in the courts. The arbitration process requires that there is an agreement between the
parties involvd. This agreement is brought forward by an agreement clause that is usually found in the
business contract agreement and decision made is binding (Moses M 2012). According to
UNCITRAL, arbitration is an internationally recognized process. A commercial arbitration is one that
deals with matters arising as a result of relationships caused by commercial nature regardless of
whether it is contractual or not.
This arbitration process is preferred by many due to various reasons; the litigation in a court that is
foreign is times very expensive ,time consuming and can lead to the development of adversarial
relationships between the parties, the arbitration awards by the tribunal are recognized internationally
for about 140 countries worldwide abide to the terms of Convention on Recognition and enforcement
of Foreign Arbitral Awards of 1958 also known as the New York convention and the arbitration panel
is composed of arbitrators who are chosen by the parties involved. The arbitration is also a highly
confidential process with the arbitral awards issued being final and binding hence leaving no chance
for appeals ( Bennett S 2002).

Comparing The Portrait Of Sally Fairchild By John Singer...
For my term paper I decided to go to the Cantor Museum in Palo Alto, and I chose to focus on two
portraits of women from two distinct time periods. First, I decided on the portrait of Margaret Blagge,
Wife of Sidney, 1st Earl of Godolphin. This portrait was painted by the artist Matthew Dixon in 1675,
in the Baroque period of art. The portrait of Margaret Blagge was done in England, and it was painted
as an oil on canvas. The second artwork I chose to compare was the Portrait of Sally Fairchild by John
Singer Sargent. This portrait was done from the year 1884 to 1887 during the Realism movement in
art. The portrait of Sally Fairchild was painted in the United States of America, and was painted as an
oil on canvas. When comparing these two portraits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Value is the relative darkness or lightness of a painting, and it assists in creating volume for a painting
as well. In Matthew Dixon s painting, the Portrait of Margaret Blagge, the value falls under tenebrism.
Chiaroscuro is the contrast between dark and light in a painting, and tenebrism is an extreme case of
chiaroscuro, with a violent contrast between dark and light. Dixon was able to have Margaret Blagge
stand out from the background by composing the whiteness of her skin directly next to the darkness of
the background. By using tenebrism, Matthew Dixon was able to achieve a great deal of volume in his
painting. Where the whiteness of Margaret Blagge s skin touches the darkness of the background it is
as though she can be lifted out of her frame. John Singer Sargent s Portrait of Sally Fairchild, is
different in comparison to Matthew Dixon s portrait, because there is not much chiaroscuro in it. The
most evident contrast between dark and light is the transition from the shadows fallen on the left side
of Sally Fairchild s body and her white skin. The contrast of shadow to the face helps create the
volume of her chin against her neck. Both paintings are different, yet they both have a sense of
volume, despite having used different

Why Is The Age Of Reform Movement Successful
The movements in the Age of Reform were mainly successful in the short term. The prison reform
movement succeeded. Debtor s prisons were abolished as the working class gained the right to vote.
Brutal punishments in prisons were eliminated and the number of capital offenses were reduced.
Prisons became places to reform instead of just to punish. The education reform also was fairly
successful. The common man again voted for the reform and called for free education. In the
beginning, the schools were not very good and taught only reading, writing, and arithmetic. Then the
education system was reformed a gain to have better schools, longer terms, and a better curriculum.

Good Morning! Today I m going to focus on Intuition, and as you may already have guessed, the
Brexit. *
Slide 2 RLS
Before diving straight into things, here is a very brief recap of the Brexit, thus far. * On Thursday 23rd
June 2016, the Referendum on the United Kingdom s membership of the European Union, otherwise
known as the Brexit vote, was staged for a third time with historic consequences. Where the majority
of the votes from the participating population supported the bid to leave the European Union, 48.1 to
51.9%. The result leaving the British economy in pieces, major politicians forced to resign, including
those that supported the bit to Leave , along with the then Prime Minister David Cameron and the ...

In this case, Intuition was key in these campaigns so that people would side with their arguments. The
knowledge question also has subsidiary links to History and Reason which will be investigated later

Slide 4 KC Personal Ex.
Development 1 of the knowledge question will focus on my personal perspective and examples that
were gathered, particularly focusing on Ethics. My personal knowledge claim in response to the
knowledge question * is that I believe that the value of ethical arguments is more significant in
comparison to other claims that are mainly based on intuition, in the context of supported knowledge
without significant evidence, which was a main concept that was outlined when analysing the Brexit
vote. *
A personal example of where is may be evident is in my IB Psychology Subject, A psychology
experiment was carried out where 2 (scripted) presenters gave 2 separate arguments on a particular
topic to 2 groups of participants. The first presenter focused on the numerous perspectives and
repercussions that the topic would create and touch on and what the situation would do to those
different people (Much like a TOK presentation), as well as touching on the ethics of the topic. The
second speaker focused on their personal perspective and their thoughts, ignoring any other
perspectives and only presuming outcomes, they also ignored any and all ethical viewpoints.

The Island Of Dr Moreau Monster Essay
One would picture what a monster looks like in one s mind one would think an intimidating creature
with a large stature and a misconfigured face. On the other hand, when one pictures a doctor and what
they do would not be skingraphing animal and human features on to one another. One would think of a
doctor of any kind of someone that treats unwanted medical conditions. However, in the novel, The
Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells, Dr. Moreau fits the description of monster perfectly from what he
is creating, his intentions, and his attitude on the island.
The product of Moreau s are referred to as monsters but the creator of the monsters is the true monster
to me. Dr. Moreau explained to Pendrick what he does and Pendrick was freaked out at first and asked
adequate questions for the circumstances he was in. The more the wild detail Moreau went into selling
the ethics of his work to Pendrick the more Pendrick bought into what he was saying. For example,

Montgomery the middle man. Moreau hates Pendrick but likes Montgomery who respects Moreau and

times of women who, just like Medea in hers, found themselves taking the lives of their children. A
current theatrical production of Euripides The Medea will give audiences a long felt message, even

Medea is A classical play, and I felt classical costuming was imperative for an accurate representation

The Holocaust Denial
Growing up, people learn about the past of their own kind and of the world they live in. One reads
history in books, hears history from parents, and studies history at schools. Knowing the history of one
s ancestors allows one to understand the past and change for a better future. Significant battles, civil
movements, and reformations teach people valuable lessons and help the society to improve. The
Holocaust, one of the most well known history events, represents a perfect historical example of
discrimination and racism. However, a number of people started to deny the known facts of the
Holocaust and even the event itself. Despite of what these people say and how convincing their

The Holocaust was inhuman. The IMT defined crimes against humanity as murder, extermination,
enslavement, deportation...or persecutions on political, racial, or religious grounds (Trials). Murder,
extermination, persecutions all occurred during the Holocaust. Nonetheless the Nazis tried to hide
what was going on in Germany. After Soviet Union s attack in eastern Belarus, the Germans began
moving all the prisoners in every concentration camp in Europe. The Nazi did not want the public,
especially the Allies, to know the stories in these camps. They viewed these prisoners as labors and
bargain chips (Death Marches) and treated those poor men and women s lives as dust under their feet.
They kept the prisoners alive only because they were hostages , and Germans needed those labors to
work for them in order to continue fighting the war; in short, the prisoners were still useful to the
Nazis. Fortunately, no matter how hard the Germans tried to cover up their crimes, the Allies found
enough evidence for the trial after World War II. After the Allied troops captured the concentration
camps, the survivors testified and provided evidence for British officials to use on the trials of Nazi
war criminals (Testimony). The Allies sentenced the criminals guilty, executed many of the high
ranking Nazi officers, and officially ended the bloody chaos. In the last few decades, a wave of

The Massacre Of Israeli Delegates At The Summer Munich...
The events of the past have a way of transforming themselves over time. Something that occurred
mere minutes ago can evolve over the next few hours, and an event that seemed so straight forward
many years past finds itself a new meaning within the greater context of the period. The same concept
applies to a specific event a mere 45 years ago, namely the massacre of Israeli delegates at the summer
Munich Olympics of 1972.
This event is now portrayed in standard textbooks as being part of a larger event of the time period,
one of the lingering effects of the Jordanian Civil War of 1971, an event that has been dubbed Black
September in the history books. As a result of the efforts of the Jordanians placed against various
Palestinian groups during the war, the Fatah, a militant Palestinian group and PFLP, another radical
group, jointly created a terror group named after the conflict. The Black September Organization
attempted to force revenge on both the Jordanian authority and the Israelis, who had occupied their
lands in Palestine. The organization became known to assassinate Israelis abroad in an act of revenge
(Smith).
However, at the time of the Olympics, the world s reaction was not as cut and dry as it is today. In
both the political and public worlds, the attitude was one of shock and horror. The Secretary General
of the United Nations said that while the event was, on its own, one that was terrible, it was made
worse by infringing on the idea that the Olympic Games

A Death That Revealed the World s Concealed View on Homosexuality The Laramie Project is a play
written by Moises Kaufman and the members of Tectonic Theater Project. The play is based on the
interviews of the citizens of Laramie about what s happening in Laramie and their responses to the
murder of Matthew. In addition to the various themes suggested by the play, the author wanted to
present the varying perspectives toward homosexuality in the Laramie community at the time of
Matthew s death. The author also wanted to explore how these perspectives may have changed as the
result of Matthew s death. Even though the citizens of Laramie persisted that hate is not a value they

Not all citizens of Laramie conveyed a negative view towards the LGBT community. Marge Murray,
together with some of the citizens, gave a notion of live and let live towards homosexuals. Marge
explains,
As far as the gay issue, I don t give a damn on one way or the other as long as they don t bother me.
And even if they did, I d just say no thank you. And that s the Attitude of most of the Laramie
population. They might poke one if they were in a bar situation, you know, they had been drinking,
they might actually smack one in the mouth, but they d just walk away. Most of em, they would just
say, I don t swing that way and whistle on about their business. Laramie is live and let live. (17)
Marge talked about how the citizens of Laramie practice a philosophy that life goes on. There are
times that they are bothered, and they exchange words and even physically hurt one another; but that s
it, they won t hold a grudge on one another. After such argument or fight, they ll just move on and live
another day. Marge pointed out that they practice the same view toward view about homosexuality;
they neither reject nor accept homosexual people.
There are also some citizens of Laramie that showed acceptance towards homosexuals. Father Roger

Compare And Contrast New England And Chesapeake Colonies
New England and the Chesapeake Regions After the discovery of the New World, countries raced to
expand their empires into the Western Hemisphere. Two countries that were dominating the Americas
were Spain and Portugal. These countries were gaining much wealth and power from the New World,
and it resulted in an economic boom in both empires. This encouraged other countries, like France
and, especially, Britain to join in the competition. Britain joined the quest for land in the New World
because they sought to expand their empire, and compete with the growing powers of Spain and
Portugal. Britain quickly took the lead in the Western Hemisphere by conquering land from Natives
along the eastern coast of North America. Soon, Britain was developing colonies all over the East
Coast. Two regions in particular that Britain was controlling was the New England and Chesapeake
areas. Prior to 1700, New England attracted many families to settle there, while Chesapeake attracted
more men, New England was founded because of religious reasons, while in the Chesapeake, they
first were searching for gold. Although they had differences, both New England and Chesapeake
colonies had conflict with the Natives, and they both had internal struggles between the poor and the
rich. Demographics in the New England and Chesapeake regions differed greatly, while New England
had more families settling there, Chesapeake had more men settling. Ever since the Mayflower, when

control will increase safety these university parking facilities. In the decks, a security booth, such as
the Par Kut booth or Portafab Guard Booths, will be installed to monitor who comes in and out of the
parking lots. A security guard, stationed in each booth, will double check that the individuals entering
the parking lot are only students, faculty, or authorized visitors. Attached or next to the booth will be a
gate arm. Students who have registered their cars to that specific parking lot or garage will be able to
swipe their Rutgers University Identification card. This will trigger the gate arm to life and allow them
entrance to the parking lot or garage. As a result, students who park in these facilities would not have
to pay for parking passes and employment opportunities would open for security booth personnel as

Gene Expression in Eukaryotes
Gene expression in eukaryotes can be broken down into three stages. These stages include
Transcription, RNA processing, and Translation. These steps are similar to gene expression in
prokaryotes but RNA processing is specific to gene expression in eukaryotes.
Transcription
Transcription happens in the cell nucleus. This is where DNA can be found. For example you can use
DNA as instructions to make certain things such as proteins, but, these instructions are in a different
language and you do not understand them, so the workers that will eventually assemble them cannot
work with them. This is where mRNA will come into play. The mRNA will provide the workers or
cells with new instructions that will be used to build the protiens. In transcription DNA is unzipped
and the enzyme RNA polymerase RNA polymerase binds to the promoter region. This starts the
unwinding of the DNA strands, and the polymerase starts RNA synthesis which runs along the
template strand of the DNA. In eukaryotic cells proteins called transcription factors bind to promoters
that include a TATA box, 25 nucleotides upstream from the start of transcription. After, more
transcription factors will bind to the DNA, together with RNA polymerase II, forming the
transcription initiation complex.
The second step of transcription is the process of elongation. This is where the polymerase moves
downstream while it unwinds the DNA and elongates the RNA from 5 to 3 . As the RNA synthesis
continues downstream the new

The Nanjing Massacre Of Nanjing
November 11th, 1937, was the date that the Japanese obtained secure control over Shanghai, meaning
that this was the date that the Japanese troops began their march to Nanjing. However, the cruel
actions that lead up to the massacre in Nanjing started on August 15, where the Japanese Navy send
planes that flew over Nanjing and released bombs. From that day, all the way until December 13
(when Nanjing fell), it was estimated that more than 50 missions flew over Nanjing, using more than
800 planes and around 160 tons of bombs. An attack that was reported on August 27 said that within a
time period of two hours, 400 500 houses were destroyed and over one hundred people were killed,
with several hundred people injured. These actions planted the seed of fear in the Chinese civilians,
which grew stronger daily with the bombing attacks. Soon people begin to evacuate, and the
population of Nanjing dropped from more than a million to half a million. The Japanese troops entered
Nanjing on December 7, and launched a massive attack on Nanjing, which caused the Chinese troops
to retreat to the opposite side of the Yangtze River on December 12. On following day of the retreat,
the Japanese s 6th and 16th division entered Nanjing, with an addition of two more Japanese Fleets.

crucibles was similar, the weight of KAl(SO4)2 in the crucibles after heating was unequal relative to

the spattering of contents observed during the initial phase of heating. The calculations used to

Static Characters In Romeo And Juliet
In stories, readers often pay close attention to the protagonists and the antagonists of the story who are
often constantly changing due to natural character development. As readers, we often overlook the
stereotypical static character. Every story needs flat or static characters which create conflict involving
dynamic characters making them more important. Although this isn t exactly true in all stories, it isn t
uncommon for a novel to have a protagonist that is static. A static character, in this vocabulary, is one
that does not experience imperative change over the span of the story, remaining basically the same
toward the end as he or she was toward the start. An example of this is Romeo, from Shakespeare s
renown play Romeo and Juliet. If Romeo wasn t in the story, Juliet wouldn t have fallen in love with
Romeo. Juliet also wouldn t have died which would defeat the plot line and whole purpose of the
story. When identifying a character is static or dynamic, you have to look at the identity change
throughout the play. Some of Romeo s well known character traits are his impulsivity, immaturity, and
his sensitivity which the audience see throughout the duration of the novel which adds to the point that
he is a static character. We see some immaturity and sensitivity at the beginning of the play when
Romeo is upset because Rosaline rejected his love. Even when Benvolio and Mercutio try to help him
out of his glum, he refuses to believe that there is anyone more

Trull Mr. Moore Physical Science L1 Research Paper: Newton s Laws of Motion 22 October 2015
Newton s 3 Laws of Motion Isaac Newton was a physicist and mathematician of the 17th century.
Newton developed the principles of modern physics. He created the three laws of motion popular in
the world of science and our daily lives ( Issac Newton Biography ). Newton s first law states that an
object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by another
force. The second law states acceleration occurs when a force acts on an object. The higher the mass
the more force needed. And ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your hand creates a new force, which makes the first two unbalanced. Or if say your dog knocked the
cup off the surface, it would also be disrupting the forces. Anything that is a new force and comes in
contact with it will unbalance it. A second example of this first law is another everyday object, a car.
However this one is actually creating a force, not just being controlled by them. When a car is moving
down a road it is pushing against the road and the road is also pushing it back. If the driver keeps their
foot on the gas pedal it will keep the forces balanced ( Newton s First Law of Motion: Examples of the
Effect of Force on Motion ). However, if something comes in contact with the car, like a tree, it will
unbalance the forces currently on the car and the car will stop moving. For the final example imagine
you re playing a game of bowling with a bunch of your friends. The bowling ball shows an example of
Newton s first law. By throwing the ball you are putting forces on it when it begins to roll. It is being
pushed down the lane and pushing against the lane. A rolling ball will keep rolling until it hits
something or until friction takes over. In this case at one point the ball will stop, either when colliding
with the pins or when rolling down gutter to the stop wall. Newton s second law states: Acceleration
occurs when a force acts on an object. The higher the mass the more force needed ( Newton s Laws ).

When Can Babies Eat Honey?
Honey is a natural substance produced by bees and popularly consumed by humans for health reasons.
Aside from being useful as a remedy for asthma, cough, hay fever, stomach problems and diarrhea,
honey is also delightful to the taste. Parents may want to allow their babies to experience new tastes,
such as that of honey, but health experts warn that the proper time to introduce honey to young babies
must be considered because serious side effects may occur when it is given too early.
When Can Babies Eat Honey?
Many cultures believe in the health benefits of honey and allow their babies to eat it early in their
lives. However, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises parents not to give their babies
raw or unpasteurized honey if they are younger than 12 months old. It should not be added to water,
formula or food, including processed or baked goods. This also includes beverages, bread or cereals
that may be sweetened with honey. This may be a conservative guideline but it is worth considering
and discussing with your baby s doctor (pediatrician).
Why Is Honey Unsafe for Your Babies?
1. Why is honey unsafe for your babies?
The main reason for delaying the introduction of honey to a baby s diet is that it can cause infant
botulism. This condition is caused by the ingestion of Clostridium botulinum spores. This type of
bacteria produces toxins inside the digestive tract and can lead to serious side effects. These include
paralysis of the baby s muscles, which can also

Deception In The Inferno And Boccaccio s The Deccameron
The theme of lying and deception reoccur frequently throughout Dante s, The Inferno and Boccaccio
s, The Decameron. In Dante s, The Inferno we meet Geryon, a monster who leads Dante and Virgil
into the eighth circle of hell. Dante believes that committing fraud and deception are the worst sin s
and he illustrates that through Geryons physical traits, and where Geryon leads them, Malebolge. In
Malebolge, the eighth circle of hell, Dante further illustrates the themes of lies and deception by the
sinners he meets and the stories he is told. The themes of lies and deception are prevalent not only
through the Inferno but, also through Boccaccio s, The Decameron. Throughout The Decameron,
Boccaccio uses lies and deception to build his hero s throughout the stories. The first story takes the
theme of lies and deception and shows them through the character, Ciappelletto. Ciappelletto lies his
way to heaven and ends up being praised by a city upon death, although his whole life he has been a
sinner. Boccaccio often uses lies and deception to lead the characters to heaven, compared to Dante
who sees how lies and deception have led the characters to hell. Throughout both texts the theme of
lies and deception are prevalent and play a significant role in both stories. In Dante s, The Inferno, lies
and deception are represented strongly through the monster Geryon. Geryon has many deceiving
characteristics that represent lying and fraud. Dante describes Geryon as, His face is appealing like
that of an honest man, but his body end in a scorpion like stinger. (Dante 223) Geryon has the face of
an innocent man, which represents your typical person committing fraud, like we see in big business
today. His scorpion like tail represents the downside to these businessmen because even though they
look good at first, they are going to come back and sting you, by committing fraud against you.
Geryon takes Vigil and Dante from the seventh circle of hell into the final circle of hell, Malebolge. In
Malebolge, Dante and Virgil meet many sinners who have committed the act of fraud, all of the
sinners are punished in unique ways depending on what type of fraud they committed. The sinners in

The And Christianity Of Christianity
Courage and Christianity Christianity is one of the worlds most recognizable religions today. With
every major religion, a struggle has to be overcome in order to be successful. Over a period of
hundreds of years, Christianity spread through the Roman empire. The spreading of Christianity was
not an easy task but a terrifying task that took the brave to conquer. Although several powerful rulers
were important in spreading Christianity in Ancient Rome, it would not have taken root if not for its
appeal among the slaves and the lower class.
Jesus, a Jewish prophet and teacher, taught during the reign of Augustus that he was the son of God.
Jesus message told that he was sent into the world to deliver the people from their sins. Jesus s
disciples spreaded his word and helped him gain many followers. Many disciples believed that a final
judgement day was near at hand, on which God would reward the righteous with immortality and
condemn sinners into everlasting hell, (Guisepi 1). The thought of eternal paradise in Heaven gave
especially the poor hope. People who were living in poverty and slavery could only dream of a life
filled with relaxation and luxury. Jesus gave everyone faith that whoever believes in him would be
rewarded with eternal paradise in Heaven. As Jesus followers grew, Jewish officials became filled
with rage. Jesus claimed to be the the son of God, a claim they thought to be blasphemy. Jesus

the most complex and comprehensive type of change process requires radical shift that covers change
in culture, behaviour and mindset of all the components within the organization.
Thus it is clearly understood here that complete understanding of organizational culture will lead to
and rightful approaches to tackle any organizational development and change process. Organizational
culture decides the way its members make decisions, the way they make interpretation, manage and
operate. In other words, organizational culture affects organization s competitive position. Inability to
manage organizational culture will give negative consequences on organization s performance.

Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging Functional cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a
diagnostic imaging modality that uses magnetic resonance imaging to assess cardiac function (5). Cine
studies can reconstruct images across several phases of the cardiac cycle. This method of MRI can
measure left ventricular volume, ejection fraction, myocardial contraction, and strain rate (10). MRI
has the ability to provide information on left ventricular function as well as regional profusion
simultaneously (11). The new MRI techniques can also evaluate angiogenesis and myocardial
viability. This has proven to be a valuable tool in diagnosing many heart conditions such as
myocarditis, amyloidosis, and restrictive cardiomyopathy. Technology ... Show more content on

MRI does not expose the patient to radiopharmaceuticals, which gives cardiac MRI an advantage over
nuclear medicine (13). MRI also has better resolution than nuclear medicine. The excellent contrast
resolution of MRI produces a well defined endocardial border (7). MRI does not have the problem of
limited acoustic windows that sometimes inhibits echocardiographic imaging. Although MRI is a
reliable modality for cardiac imaging, there are some limitations to consider with this modality. MRI
is contraindicated for patients implanted devices such as pacemakers or defibrillators. As with MUGA
and SPECT studies, cardiac MRI is not as accurate in patients with cardiac arrhythmias. When
calculating ejection fraction with MRI, it is necessary for the patient hold their breath. This means
poor image quality for studies done on patients who cannot hold their breath. In addition to this, any
variation in the level of inspiration will affect the accuracy of ejection fraction calculations

Enkidu And Gilgamesh Research Paper
The gods heard the cries of the helpless subjects, and decided to create Enkidu. Enkidu, who was
made by the god of creation, was as strong and glorious as Gilgamesh Enkidu, who lived in the
mountains, was as reckless as a wild animal in need of taming. A trapper/hunter sends word to
Gilgamesh, and he sends the temple prostitute to sleep with him to help tame him. He then gains the
world, and the animals deny him. Enkidu then goes back to Uruk with the prostitute, before engaging
in a fierce fight with Gilgamesh. Eventually, Enkidu and Gilgamesh become the greatest of friends.
The two ransack trees from a far cedar forest together. A frightening demon known as Humbaba

Robert H. Clancy s Un-American Bill
An Un American Bill : A Congressman Denounces Immigration Quotes Robert H. Clancy, an
American congressman, gave a speech on April 8th, 1924 against the Johnson Reed Act after World
War 1. He presents his speech with a compelling and passionate tone to Congress. He emphasized the
harsh, discriminative atmosphere people with a line of foreigners lived with in America. Clancy
establishes an argument of extreme and unjust racial discrimination against foreigners in America with
touching anecdotes and personal experiences, riveting graphic images, and powerful diction, proving
his points with ease. Clancy contrived a glorious amount of anecdotes to share with Congress back in
1924. As Clancy explains, I learned more of the spirit of American history at my mother s knee than I
ever learned in my four years of high school study of American history and in my five and a half years
of study at the great University of Michigan (Clancy, 3). Clancy presented this personal experience to
explain the un Americanism of Americans with little to no foreign descent. He continuously points out
the Americanism of Americans of foreign descent. According to statistics, Clancy lists percentages of
Italian Americans affected by war, showing that they, too, are ... Show more content on

He illustrates in his presentation, Some of these men and boys shed their blood and left their bodies to
rot on American battle fields (Clancy 3). This plants a horrific image in the Congressmen s minds,
giving the argument an excellent backbone with appeal to emotion. Clancy also uses in his speech, My
mother s father fought in the Civil War, leaving his six small children in Detroit when he marched
away to the southern battle fields to fight against racial distinctions and protect his country (Clancy 3).
This quote provides a riveting image of a father leaving a beloved family for war, invoking powerful

Through intercession of William Wallace, Scottish people awaken their spirit to fight for freedom and

wondered while I watching the movie. I thought the feeling of being citizen of the kingdom or being

country if I am strong and brave? Should I follow the step of William? But all of this is just a dream. I
can say that the movie is very well presented from the different scenes up to the sound effects they
have exerted. Mel Gibson caught the taste of the viewer regarding to this type of movie which is based
from the literature of the ancient time like the Passion of Christ that he has directed also. Based on the

Symptoms And Treatment Of Ulcers
In today s world, elderlies suffering with ulcers are very common. Ulcers are sores that occurs on the

reasons with some slight similarities to them.. People with ulcers has many treatment options,
depending on their case, stage, and kind of ulcer, for example stasis and pressure ulcer. Stasis and
pressure ulcer are two ulcers that has lack of blood flow as a factor why it occurs, even though it gives
a different outcome for both ulcers. Pressure ulcers is also known as pressure sores or bed sores, these
sores occur when an individual is not being repositioned for some time, causing constant pressure to
an area. Some of the etiology of pressure ulcers stated by Jones, D (2013) are, poor nutritional status,
posture problems, medications, reduced blood flow, and reduced mobility . Elderly nursing home

deposits are mostly composed of clay minerals, a subtype of phyllosilicate minerals, which impart
plasticity and harden when fired or dried; they also may contain variable amounts of water trapped in
the mineral structure by polar attraction.
CHAPTER II
Review Of Related Literature
The Baghdad battery was the foundation of this project and Baghdad batteries were built by Ancient
Parathions. There is still no exact proof on where the Parathions were able to use it since there were no
wires found for the electric current to flow. The battery is composed of a clay pot, a copper tube
enclosing a half inch metal tube and an asphalt stopper as a resistor. Inside the clay, there is a solution
which contains electrolytes such as vinegars and juice. Scholars found out that the Parathions first
ferment their wine as so that the wine will contain more free ions. And the copper tube together with
the metal tube helps the electric current flow. Recent pioneering includes charcoal and wood sand as
an alternative helping increase electric current by 2 volts. (Source:

  • 2. Missile Crisis Imagine being in grade school and having your teacher yell instructions to hide under your desk because of a possible missile attack, not knowing if you ll see tomorrow. This possible scenario is what children feared in late 1962. The uncertainty of life during this time and the actions taken by teachers and students intrigue me, like how they thought that a thin piece of wood and metal would save them from an atomic missile. In reality, nothing, including themselves, would be left standing. In October 1962, off the coast of Florida in the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean sailed the navy ships of the Soviet Union and the United States. With the two mightiest nations on Earth facing each other, World War III was on the brink of happening. With missiles in Cuba secretly provided by the Soviet Union and discovered by in a photo from a United States satellite, the world was on the edge to see who blinked first. As this was happening the citizens of the U.S. were taking actions. At every school students had to do drills in case of an attack. Sometimes teachers would randomly yell, Drop! and the kids would get on their hands and knees under the desks. They didn t tell us why they only told us to get under our desks. I don t know why they thought a desk was going to save us. (Interview with Diane Strohm, student during missile crisis). Some schools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. San Elizario San Elizario is a beautiful small town, with a loving and united community. It has a historical background in which it makes it even more special. We see many tourists hang at the Placita where the chapel is located but I am sure the tourists are aware of the surroundings, like the houses, and the streets, they are not pleasurable to watch. There is countless of trash around the streets, also including the houses front yards. I come to propose if we put more trash cans all around town, there would be less littering. To increase sanitation, we can set up community walks at least once a month, to clean our yards and the streets around the area we live in. • 4. An Accidental Man Made Disaster A disaster is a highly disruptive event that causes suffering, hardship, injury, and even death (Anderson McFarlane, 2015). A disaster can cause interruptions in businesses, and can cause partial or total destruction to infrastructure, such as homes or hospitals (Anderson McFarlane, 2015). A disaster can cause downed power lines, loss of transportation, loss of food, and sanitation problems. Disasters are caused by naturally occurring events or man made events. Examples of naturally occurring disasters are earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes. Man made disasters are accidental, unintentional, or deliberately caused (Anderson McFarlane, 2015). An accidental man made disaster example would be a toxic spill, or a nuclear power plant event. A deliberately caused man made disaster would be a terrorist attack, school violence, or a bombing. Certain types of natural disasters are more likely to occur in certain areas than others. For instance, areas along the coastline are more likely to experience a hurricane than areas more inland. Every place one can live is prone to having a natural disaster occur. Also, a man made disaster can happen anywhere; no place is safe from the threat of terrorism. In my community of Mt. • 5. A Summary Of The Ancient Greek And The Byzantine Empires Both the Ancient Greek and the Byzantine Empires have a long and familiar history with warfare, acclimated to crushing losses and sweeping victories. In Greece, military action has fended off the Persian invaders and brought warring city states deep set rivalries. Within the Byzantine Empire, conquest has brought Rome back into the Roman Empire. Despite both civilizations high esteem in military conquest and glory, they had contrasting views of warfare and how their respective armies went to work. The Greek Classical Terracotta volute krater, attributed to the Painter of the Woolly Satyr, illustrates two messy front line battles in separate registers. Meanwhile, from the Early Byzantine period, the silver Plate with the Battle of David and Goliath depicts not so much a battle between two armies, but rather a dramatic yet organized duel, over the course of 3 registers. From these two pieces, one could all but assume one statement: of the artists and commissioners of the terracotta volute krater and the Plate with the Battle of David and Goliath, only those of the former have seen battle. In the terracotta volute krater, the viewer immediately sees from any angle that there is indeed a raging battle afoot in the register occupying the body of the vase. The amazonachae, a battle between the mythical Amazon (a race of warrior women) and Greeks, were a popular subject of works, particularly in Athens. On one face of the neck of the vase, there rages a fight between centaurs and Lapiths. Meanwhile, the Byzantine Plate with the Battle of David and Goliath depicts the titular duel from the holy text. Despite drawing the viewer s eyes to the larger middle register depicting the biblical fight, the silver plate s top register begins the plate s narrative: David is confronting the giant Goliath. More importantly, among the two holding their hands out in blessing (thumb to ring finger), David has the the blessing of God (depicted as a hand descending from the sky). In this narrative, David s victory is assured; after all, he has the approval of God; such is not the case in the amazonachae nor the centauromachia depicted on the volute krater, in which victory is still uncertain. The Ultimate Battle Of Good Vs Evil Dylan Byington Mr. Reed English 2322 7 30 Nov. 2015 The Ultimate battle of Good vs Evil in Beowulf The story of Beowulf involves a man who accomplishes many unbelievable feats. These feats help to save the Danes from evil beasts. The idea of good and evil opposing one another has been a topic for discussion since man s existence. This idea is seen all around us in movies (Superheroes vs Villains), the world (ISIS), and religion (God is good, Satan is evil). The story of Beowulf is has the theme of good versus evil imbedded into it also. Beowulf is an Old English epic that has many conflicts between its characters, these conflicts between the characters give the theme of good versus evil in the epic. The conflicts are more than just man versus self or man verves man. The conflicts are man versus evil, as Beowulf is a man who is defending humanity from the beasts of hell. Beowulf along with the rest of humanity is seen as the good , whereas the monsters are seen as the evil . Beowulf unlike other famous warriors did not fight for his country against others like Achilles, he instead fought against hellish monsters for the sake of man. There are symbols in the epic that represent good, Beowulf himself is a symbol for good. There are outside sources that influence the conflict as well, The Bible s story of Cain influences the readers to determine his spawns to be evil, as he was. • 10. The Relevence of Carbon-14 A human skeleton is discovered at a new construction site outside a small town in Nebraska. The remains could be from someone who died within the past 100 years or the past 1000 years or even longer. An archeologist from a local university is called in to examine the remains. He finds evidence that the skeleton may indeed be very old. To determine its age, he uses radiometric dating. Radiometric dating is based on analyzing the amount of carbon 14 in an ancient example of once living substantial, related to what is found in a current sample of active material. The important material on which it is established is that carbon 14 has always been constructed at the same level in the greater atmosphere for all history. An element is radioactive if its atomic nuclei are unstable. The nucleus holds neutrons and protons; the electromagnetic force separates the protons because they have an equivalent charge, but the strong nuclear force pulls the protons and neutrons closer together. A nucleus is only unchanging if it has an even balance of protons and neutrons, or also doesn t have any extra energy. Radiocarbon dating only works on things that were once alive and are now dead. The level of carbon 14 in an artifact reduces by 50% every 5730 years from the moment that the raw material from which the artifact is made no longer is exchanging carbon with he atmosphere, in most cases this is the point of death of the animal or plant. • 11. Macbeth Hubris Analysis In the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the definition of hubris is [e]xaggerated pride or self confidence. Hubris is also known as ego, and when someone has an overly large ego, it could lead them to their demise. In William Shakespeare s play Macbeth, this is what the tragic hero s downfall results in. In the play Macbeth, Shakespeare shares the story of a warrior named Macbeth and the path he takes to become king and how his hubris, or ego, ultimately leads him to his own demise. Shakespeare also introduces the audience to Banquo, Lady Macbeth, Malcolm, and Macduff as other important characters throughout the play. Another problem with an overly large hubris is that if placed in the wrong hands, it can be a dangerous weapon of mass destruction as shown by Macbeth. There are many different factors that do influence Macbeth to his demise. Theses influences include the witches as well as his own wife, Lady Macbeth. Although these people did influence Macbeth to lead him to his own demise, it is Macbeth s fault for letting his hubris get in his way of success which ultimately leads him to his own demise. Even though Macbeth is influenced by not only the witches, but his wife as well, the majority of his demise comes from within himself through his excessive amount of hubris. One way Shakespeare foreshadows Macbeth s ego leading him to his demise is when the witches say, Fair is foul, and foul is fair (Shakespeare 1). What Shakespeare is trying to hint to the reader is that by the end of the play, the witches will succeed in turning anything fair into foul, referring to Macbeth. Another way that Macbeth lets his ego lead to his demise is when he says, Thou marvel st at my words (Shakespeare 95). What Shakespeare is trying to show the audience when Macbeth says this to Lady Macbeth is that he now is sort of looking down at his wife and talking to her as if she is one the peasants he rules over, ultimately believing that his wife is not as powerful as him. Another way he lets his ego get the best of him is when he decides to kill Banquo and Fleance because he is worried that either Banquo and Fleance will try to forcefully take his throne out from under him. One example of this is when Macbeth says, Full ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While he was working, a man uses dynamite to blow away rocks that are blocking the way of the railroad tracks. So my prediction is that his limbic system was definitely abolished, but his frontal lobes were merely damaged. The fontal lobes also help the brain with motor control and speech production which Gage still had. So the only explanation I can come up with is that limbic system got shut down and the neurotransmitters shut down as well which stopped sending messages to the frontal lobe. In Matthew Dixon s painting, the Portrait of Margaret Blagge, the value falls under tenebrism. Chiaroscuro is the contrast between dark and light in a painting, and tenebrism is an extreme case of chiaroscuro, with a violent contrast between dark and light. Dixon was able to have Margaret Blagge stand out from the background by composing the whiteness of her skin directly next to the darkness of the background. By using tenebrism, Matthew Dixon was able to achieve a great deal of volume in his painting. Where the whiteness of Margaret Blagge s skin touches the darkness of the background it is as though she can be lifted out of her frame. John Singer Sargent s Portrait of Sally Fairchild, is different in comparison to Matthew Dixon s portrait, because there is not much chiaroscuro in it. The most evident contrast between dark and light is the transition from the shadows fallen on the left side of Sally Fairchild s body and her white skin. After Soviet Union s attack in eastern Belarus, the Germans began moving all the prisoners in every concentration camp in Europe. The Nazi did not want the public, especially the Allies, to know the stories in these camps. Something that occurred mere minutes ago can evolve over the next few hours, and an event that seemed so straight forward many years past finds itself a new meaning within the greater context of the period. The same concept applies to a specific event a mere 45 years ago, namely the massacre of Israeli delegates at the summer Munich Olympics of 1972. This event is now portrayed in standard textbooks as being part of a larger event of the time period, one of the lingering effects of the Jordanian Civil War of 1971, an event that has been dubbed Black September in the history books. As a result of the efforts of the Jordanians placed against various Palestinian groups during the war, the Fatah, a militant Palestinian group and PFLP, another radical group, jointly created a terror group named after the conflict. The Black September Organization attempted to force revenge on both the Jordanian authority and the Israelis, who had occupied their lands in Palestine. The organization became known to assassinate Israelis abroad in an act of revenge (Smith). However, at the time of the Olympics, the world s reaction was not as cut and dry as it is today. In both the political and public worlds, the attitude was one of shock and horror. The Secretary General of the United Nations said that while the event was, on its own, one that was terrible, it was made worse by infringing on the idea that the Olympic Games ... • 30. Gene Expression in Eukaryotes Gene expression in eukaryotes can be broken down into three stages. These stages include Transcription, RNA processing, and Translation. These steps are similar to gene expression in prokaryotes but RNA processing is specific to gene expression in eukaryotes. Transcription Transcription happens in the cell nucleus. This is where DNA can be found. For example you can use DNA as instructions to make certain things such as proteins, but, these instructions are in a different language and you do not understand them, so the workers that will eventually assemble them cannot work with them. This is where mRNA will come into play. The mRNA will provide the workers or cells with new instructions that will be used to build the protiens. In transcription DNA is unzipped and the enzyme RNA polymerase RNA polymerase binds to the promoter region. This starts the unwinding of the DNA strands, and the polymerase starts RNA synthesis which runs along the template strand of the DNA. In eukaryotic cells proteins called transcription factors bind to promoters that include a TATA box, 25 nucleotides upstream from the start of transcription. After, more transcription factors will bind to the DNA, together with RNA polymerase II, forming the transcription initiation complex. The second step of transcription is the process of elongation. This is where the polymerase moves downstream while it unwinds the DNA and elongates the RNA from 5 to 3 . As the RNA synthesis continues downstream the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Static Characters In Romeo And Juliet In stories, readers often pay close attention to the protagonists and the antagonists of the story who are often constantly changing due to natural character development. As readers, we often overlook the stereotypical static character. Every story needs flat or static characters which create conflict involving dynamic characters making them more important. Although this isn t exactly true in all stories, it isn t uncommon for a novel to have a protagonist that is static. A static character, in this vocabulary, is one that does not experience imperative change over the span of the story, remaining basically the same toward the end as he or she was toward the start. An example of this is Romeo, from Shakespeare s renown play Romeo and Juliet. If Romeo wasn t in the story, Juliet wouldn t have fallen in love with Romeo. Juliet also wouldn t have died which would defeat the plot line and whole purpose of the story. When identifying a character is static or dynamic, you have to look at the identity change throughout the play. Some of Romeo s well known character traits are his impulsivity, immaturity, and his sensitivity which the audience see throughout the duration of the novel which adds to the point that he is a static character. Or if say your dog knocked the cup off the surface, it would also be disrupting the forces. Anything that is a new force and comes in contact with it will unbalance it. A second example of this first law is another everyday object, a car. However this one is actually creating a force, not just being controlled by them. When a car is moving down a road it is pushing against the road and the road is also pushing it back. If the driver keeps their foot on the gas pedal it will keep the forces balanced ( Newton s First Law of Motion: Examples of the Effect of Force on Motion ). However, if something comes in contact with the car, like a tree, it will unbalance the forces currently on the car and the car will stop moving. For the final example imagine you re playing a game of bowling with a bunch of your friends. The bowling ball shows an example of Newton s first law. By throwing the ball you are putting forces on it when it begins to roll. It is being pushed down the lane and pushing against the lane. A rolling ball will keep rolling until it hits something or until friction takes over. In this case at one point the ball will stop, either when colliding with the pins or when rolling down gutter to the stop wall. In Dante s, The Inferno we meet Geryon, a monster who leads Dante and Virgil into the eighth circle of hell. Dante believes that committing fraud and deception are the worst sin s and he illustrates that through Geryons physical traits, and where Geryon leads them, Malebolge. In Malebolge, the eighth circle of hell, Dante further illustrates the themes of lies and deception by the sinners he meets and the stories he is told. The themes of lies and deception are prevalent not only through the Inferno but, also through Boccaccio s, The Decameron. Throughout The Decameron, Boccaccio uses lies and deception to build his hero s throughout the stories. The first story takes the theme of lies and deception and shows them through the character, Ciappelletto. Ciappelletto lies his way to heaven and ends up being praised by a city upon death, although his whole life he has been a sinner. Boccaccio often uses lies and deception to lead the characters to heaven, compared to Dante who sees how lies and deception have led the characters to hell. Throughout both texts the theme of lies and deception are prevalent and play a significant role in both stories. In Dante s, The Inferno, lies and deception are represented strongly through the monster Geryon. Geryon has many deceiving characteristics that represent lying and fraud. Dante describes Geryon as, His face is appealing like that of an honest man, but his body end in a scorpion like stinger. • 45. Robert H. Clancy s Un-American Bill An Un American Bill : A Congressman Denounces Immigration Quotes Robert H. Clancy, an American congressman, gave a speech on April 8th, 1924 against the Johnson Reed Act after World War 1. He presents his speech with a compelling and passionate tone to Congress. He emphasized the harsh, discriminative atmosphere people with a line of foreigners lived with in America. Clancy establishes an argument of extreme and unjust racial discrimination against foreigners in America with touching anecdotes and personal experiences, riveting graphic images, and powerful diction, proving his points with ease. Clancy contrived a glorious amount of anecdotes to share with Congress back in 1924. As Clancy explains, I learned more of the spirit of American history at my mother s knee than I ever learned in my four years of high school study of American history and in my five and a half years of study at the great University of Michigan (Clancy, 3). Clancy presented this personal experience to explain the un Americanism of Americans with little to no foreign descent. He continuously points out the Americanism of Americans of foreign descent. Clay deposits are mostly composed of clay minerals, a subtype of phyllosilicate minerals, which impart plasticity and harden when fired or dried; they also may contain variable amounts of water trapped in the mineral structure by polar attraction. CHAPTER II Review Of Related Literature The Baghdad battery was the foundation of this project and Baghdad batteries were built by Ancient Parathions. There is still no exact proof on where the Parathions were able to use it since there were no wires found for the electric current to flow. The battery is composed of a clay pot, a copper tube enclosing a half inch metal tube and an asphalt stopper as a resistor. Inside the clay, there is a solution which contains electrolytes such as vinegars and juice. Scholars found out that the Parathions first ferment their wine as so that the wine will contain more free ions. And the copper tube together with the metal tube helps the electric current flow. Recent pioneering includes charcoal and wood sand as an alternative helping increase electric current by 2 volts. (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baghdad_Battery July 28, 2011)
