Character Analysis Of Good Will Hunting
The movie Good Will Hunting an American Drama Film was directed by Gus Van Sant, and starring
Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver and Stellan Skarsgard in 1997. This movie
is about a man named Good Will Hunting who was a genius but chose not to live as a genius because
of fear of past experiences and the ill treatment he received when he was in foster home. Some of the
other characters in the movie were supportive and some were not supportive of him. This essay
discusses Good Will s personality traits and his interaction with the other characters in the movie.
Good Will Hunting possessed the following personality traits, namely: independence, intense interest
in a problem, and the need for stimulation. Good Will Hunting was independent because he chose to
live his own way and not conforming himself to society s pressure. Good Will Hunting proved his
independence by self imposed limitation, meaning limiting his ability to enjoy complete freedom.
Throughout the movie, he rejected his natural talents or gifts and initially chose to stay in South
Boston with his friends. Like in the case with his girlfriend, Good Will Hunting refused to get close to
people with the fear of being rejected at the end. Moreover, he refused to get higher paying jobs as
was in the case of Sean Maguire, the psychology professor, who later became his counselor. It was
during these counselling sessions with Good Will Hunting that we learned, Sean Maguire, was also
talented in advanced mathematics, but rejected the opportunity to teach at Harvard and chose to teach
at a local community college instead. Similarly, Good Will Hunting chose to remain a janitor or a
construction worker where he was more comfortable. Not just did he poses the trait of independency,
he also had the character of intensity of interest in a problem. As per his intensity of interest in a
problem, Good Will Hunting would obsess about a problem that was presented to him until he had
discovered a solution. Some examples of this in the movie were the initial math problems on the
chalkboard where he could not stop working on them until he had a solution. Another is when he
completed the complex homework problem for his girlfriend Skylar

Relationship Between Adulthood And Late Adulthood
Journal #8: Relationships Young Adulthood to Late Adulthood During early adulthood ages twenty to
forty, people enter the achieving stage according to the developmental psychologist K. Warner Shaie.
In this stage young adults begin to be more focused on making decisions on what to do for the rest of
their lives and whom to form relationships with. These decisions will soon make up the core of their
happiness throughout adulthood. According to the psychologist Erik Erikson, this challenge of
forming relationships is called the intimacy versus isolation stage. Those who are successful in the
stage have no problem in forming intimate relationships and are willing to sacrifice for others. Those
who have a hard time often result to loneliness with a growing fear of relationships. This could be a
result of failure to form an identity for oneself in Erikson s previous stage of identity versus confusion.
In psychologist Bernard Murstein s stimulus value role theory, people attempt to form close
relationships through three stages stimulus, value, and the role stage; hints the name. In the stimulus
stage relationships are built mainly on physical attraction. If a person looks appealing you might want
to go out of your way to strike up a conversation with that person. In the value stage you start to find
out what things you both have in common in values and beliefs; this usually happens in the second to
seventh contact with one another. Lastly in the role stage the

Selfishness In A Monster Calls By Patrick Ness
Selfishness, a quality that best shines in times of isolation, forces others to become aware of one s
need for attention. Patrick Ness portrays this trait in A Monster Calls in a way that makes the readers
realize that the burden of a secret is too great for anyone of any age to carry. Conor O Malley is
thirteen, but his experiences and hardships are ones that those who are beyond their years have not
necessarily needed to overcome. Taking into account his mother s worsening condition, he does not
want to let his surroundings affect him more than they already have. Under the influence of the
Monster, Conor allows himself to act in accordance to his situation instead of keeping everything to
himself without an outlet for his emotions. Conor s selfishness, which is seen throughout the novel,
affects his interactions with others in drawing out their flaws. To retaliate against his father, Lily and
his grandma for putting him in situations that cause him suffering, Conor must act in this selfish
manner regardless of the consequences.
Beginning with his father, Conor witnesses how a parent can be unwilling to give their all for their
children and acts selfishly in order to make him aware of this fact. He faces a reality of life at the time
of his parent s divorce; there was nothing he could do to keep them together. As a result, the bond he
has with his father is imperfect. There is a clear barrier between the two that emerges from the
distance that separates them. Even as Conor yearns for a proper parent figure in his life, he is unable to
have one and he allows himself to act selfishly towards his father because he will eventually be the
only parent Conor has left. By confessing to his father that he does not want to live with grandma
(Ness, 88) and asking his father questions about why can t [he] come and live with (Ness, 88) him,
Conor wants his father to own up to his responsibilities as a parent. Despite being aware his wishes
will not be granted, but he wants his father to realize how less he commits to caring for his son when
he needs him the most. If all his father wants to do is make promises to only break them, then he
might as well push his father to his limits and demand things from him regardless

Othello Tragic Hero Essay
Othello: The Moor of Venice is a play by William Shakespeare written on1603. Othello is a tragic hero
like Hamlet, Macbeth and King Lear. Shakespeare presumably composed Othello after Hamlet.
Othello, who secretly married Desdemona at the opening of play, leaves Venice to charge the Venetian
armed forces in Cyprus. Whenever Desdemona and Cassio join Othello in Cyprus, the deceitful Iago
convinces Othello that Desdemona has been unfaithful to him with Cassio. Othello murdered

uses them to destroy all that precious for Othello. He succeeds in convincing Othello that his wife is

Michael Moore Capitalism Synopsis
Michael Moore is the writer and director of the highly relevant documentary film, Capitalism: A Love
Story. To me, the most interesting chapter of the film is Dead Peasants. Moore talked about capitalism
is a system of giving and taking, mostly taking . In my opinion, it sounds true for me. Moore
illustrated Irma Johnson s husband Dan ironic case. Who recently died of cancer, leaving behind Irma
and their two sons. They filmed the woman cried and sadly talked about her husband. Her husband
worked in middle management at Amegy Bank in Houston, Texas. Amegy had taken out a secret life
insurance policy on Dan s life. The bank generously named itself as the beneficiary in the event of
Dan s death. Dan s death made them $1.5 million richer by the insurance company accidentally
informed Irma that Amegy Bank had received a check for $1.5 million just weeks after Dan died. Irma
Johnson cried in pain that she didn t know anything and they never told her. Why the company try to
profit from employee s death?. How are these companies able to get away with this?. Moore might be

world an extra $81,000 and Walmart didn t offer a penny to help to cover her medical bills and funeral

Devil Facial Tumor Disease Analysis
Devil Facial Tumor Disease (DFTD) can be recognized by lumps around the face and neck.
(Evolution.berkeley.edu, 2008),which causes starvation in 12 18 months due to feeding difficulties and
therefore death (Deakin and Belov, 2012) . This fatal disease affects only Tasmanian devils, marsupial
carnivores of Tasmania. Scientists reported that devils may be responding to DFTD by breeding
earlier before the disease kills them, which could help the species survive longer (Hamede, McCallum
and Jones, 2012).
DFTD spreads due to biting between animals during mating or feeding. The cancer cells themselves
are the infective agent, as opposed to a transmissible virus that leads to Tumor formation. in the case
of the devils (Pearse et al., 2012), the genes that could differentiate between own and foreign cells are
so similar between the cancer and host, that the devil s immune system does not identify the cancer, ...

Norman Bates Research Paper
After stealing a large sum of money from her boss in order to marry the man she loves, poor office
worker Marion Crane flees the city to her lover, but soon finds herself lost and checking into a
deserted motel. There she discovers that its young depressed manager, Norman Bates is an unrelenting
killer with a dissociative identity disorder. The actions and personality traits displayed by Norman
Bates can be explained by two distinct theories, those of Sigmund Freud and Abraham Maslow.
Freud s theory stems from the belief that traumatic events, usually from childhood, are repressed by
the conscious mind; yet remain in the subconscious, where they proceed to act as a constant source of
neuroses and psychoses. Freud believed that the majority of repressed memories relate to sexuality. In
Psycho, Norman Bates is said to have murdered his mother and her lover in a jealous rage after
finding them in bed together. These actions can be further explained by Freud s theory of Infantile
Sexuality.
Freud theorized that Infantile Sexuality occurred when a child s sexual instincts are present in
childhood but later are repressed. A normal childhood would be one in which ... Show more content on

seeks to fulfill the next one, and so on. Maslow s hierarchy is divided into five stages, physiological,

human instinct in that they play a major role in motivating human behavior. He theorized that one
must fulfill the lower level basic needs before progressing on to satisfy any higher level needs. Thus
while Norman Bates lower level basic needs were being met, his higher level needs for love, esteem

Anatomy And Physiology Essay
How we came to know what we know now about anatomy and physiology has always been a great
curiosity of anyone interested in the medical field. Knowing the history can lead to even more
discoveries in the future. When you think of anatomy you imagine something like this picture below.
But here is where it all began....
The beginning of anatomy and physiology, ironically, began with a curiosity in biology. The first man
to create an important contribution to biology was Alcmaeon, in the 5th century, BC. He was the first
scientist to have worked with dissection. His focus was in trying to find out from where and how
human intelligence came to be. His research never intended to be anatomical. He merely stumbled
upon anatomical research. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is famous for his dissection of apes and pigs, it is said he never once dissected a human cadaver.
He believed apes were anatomically identical to humans. His work was never questioned until 100 s of
years later when, Vesalius, a Renaissance anatomist showed people the difference between apes and
humans. He discovered more than 200 differences. In 1540, Vesalius showed exactly what Galen was
wrong about. Galen s work was much respected regardless. He got a lot right, but also a fair amount
wrong . For example, he stated that apes had hearts with 3 ventricles, as did humans. During the
Renaissance era, slicing open human cadavers was approved by many people, but unfortunately a lot
of professors bypassed the idea. Vesalius was a very dedicated man. He did dissect criminals, but he
also managed to snatch the bodies himself. Based on his research, Vesalius created a very detailed
book called De Humani Corporis Fabrica.(The Structure of the Human Body). This was the most
famous anatomy book of that era.
Just like Galen, Hippocrates never once dissected a human cadaver. He stated that dissection was
unpleasant if not cruel, as stated on page 53 of the book Stiff by Mary Roach. Hippocrates believed
tendons to be nerves and believed the brain was a mucous secreting gland. Hippocrates was dubbed
the Father of Medicine.
In 1489 to 1515, Leonardo da Vinci, began to illustrate anatomical features. He is ordered to stop
dissecting in 1515 by

Sorghum Research Paper
Forages in Australia are mainly kept in the country for use in feeding livestock. Excess forages are cut
to be baled for hay or they are ensiled, which means to be cut and stored in a silo or similar type
facility to be preserved as silage. Another newer and more popular use of forages are as cover crops in
between growing seasons. This is a good way to improve soil health and it also creates another
grazing area for livestock.
There are three main types of forages in Australia: sorghum, millet, and cover crops.
The first mentioned, sorghum, is the best known of the three. Although sorghum can be harvested as
grain, it is also used as a forage crop. Sorghum has a very high production potential which makes it a
great feed source for livestock. There are two main hybrids of sorghum that are grown in Australia,
and they are: sudan x sorghum where the bulk of this feed is available in the summer and autumn and
sweet sorghum where the bulk of feed is available in autumn. Although sorghum is a great feed
source, it does have a fault. The sorghum plants produce a toxic prussic acid when they are young and
if the plants are grazed by livestock during this period, it could be fatal to the livestock.

Temperate millet has an advantage because it is the first forage available for grazing in the spring. But,
it only produces well in temperate like climates near the coast. Temperate millet also needs to be
grazed regularly to maintain the feed quality. It is planted starting in August. Hybrid millet is desired
by farmers in dryer growing conditions. The feed from the hybrid millet crop is mostly available in the
later summer and into autumn. Although it can be a good feed source, it is unpalatable to livestock.

Solutions-Focused Therapy Essay
Solutions focused therapy is a relatively new and welcomed therapy developed by Steve de Shazer
and his wife Insoo Kim Berg, in 1979 at their institute, the Brief Family Therapy Center in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Guterman, 2010, p. 350). Shazer was interested in how to influence change
(Nichols, 2008, p. 346). Solution focused therapy deals in solutions as opposed to dwelling on
problems. Increasingly stringent budgeting constraints emphasize the need to develop shorter and
more focused therapy sessions without sacrificing successful outcomes (Nichols, 2008). The drawback
to solution focused therapy would be that for those not experienced, therapists may be unable to
decipher what real underlying issues are involved (Guterman, 2010). ... Show more content on

Clients in working with their therapists learn to rethink their situations. They learn to look at their life
as the glass half full, instead of almost empty. Showing clients how to spot the flowers in a sea of
weeds enables them to face adversity or misfortune with an attitude of, yes, that was a bad hit, but
how do we move on from here? Where do I want to go tomorrow? How am I going to get there?
Solutions focused therapy enables a client to multiply a smidgen of courage into enough to conquer a
problem. Assisting clients to re set their thinking stays with clients long after the therapy session has
ended, and is another excellent benefit of solutions focused therapy. Not surprisingly, Iveson (2002)
found that solutions focused therapy was effective in a severe phobia case, while he was working with
a client experiencing agoraphobia. According to the Mayo Clinic ( 2009) agoraphobia can severely
limit your ability to socialize, work, attend important events and even manage the details of daily life,
such as running errands (para. 1). In working with his client, Iveson discovered that the client did go
up and down stairs in her home that ran right beside the front door. Some days, the client had to sit on
the top step and talk herself into making the descent, but after time had passed, she could make the trip
down and back up. Once the client had remembered what she was able to do, Iveson concentrated on
that success, which was then followed by

the programmes and activities. The government gives grants to the public universities and this money

The grants are given to all universities oblivious of the programmes that they offer. The government
through the parliament passed a bill that saw the creation of the Constituency Development Act that
was aimed to rationalize development across the country by ensuring that all areas across Kenya had a
fair share of the money set aside for development. Through the various committees established in each
constituency, students in the universities are able to access bursaries to aid them in paying school fees.
This bursary is given to people who are needy and who cannot afford tuition fees. For the equal

Fate And Fate In The Open Boat By Stephen Crane
Title
They then briefly exchanged some addresses and admonition. As for the reflections of the men, there
was a great deal of rage in them. Perchance they might be formulated thus: If I am going to drowned if
I am going to be drowned if I am going to be drowned, why, in the name of the seven mad gods who
rule the sea, was I allowed to come this far and contemplate sand and trees? Was I brought here
merely to have my nose dragged away as I was about to nibble the sacred cheese of life? It is
preposterous. If this old ninny woman, Fate, cannot do better than this, she should be deprived of the
management of men s fortunes. She is an old hen who knows not her intention. If she has decided to
drown me, why did she not do it in the beginning and save me all this trouble. The whole affair is
absurd...But, no, she cannot mean to drown me. She dares not drown me. She cannot drown me. Not
after all this work.: Afterward the man might have had an impulse to shake his fist at the clouds, Just
you drown me, now, and then hear what I call you! (Crane 7)
The Open Boat is a tragic tale by Stephen Crane of four men contemplating what seems like their
inevitable death. This paragraph above serves as a quality passage on its own and as an interesting part
of the entire story as the author repeats it often. The text is a beautiful paragraph, perhaps the most

Identifying Barriers Of Diversity For Law Enforcement...
Henry Dimitroff
November 3, 2016
Course Project
Introduction:
In the article Identifying Barriers to Diversity in Law Enforcement Agencies by Carl F. Matthies,
Kirsten M. Keller, and Nelson Lim the issue of diversity in the law enforcement workforce is brought
to task. They show through the use of research that law enforcement agencies can do their jobs better
if they resemble the population they are supposed to be protecting. Police community relations are
negatively affected by the disparity of racial composition between agencies and communities
combined with heavy handed tactics. The intentions of this article is to offer a thorough analysis of a
method intended to reduce this disparity. This method is known as barrier analysis which means it
analysis issues or problems such as this (diversity in law enforcement) for specific obstacles. The
intent is to use this knowledge to directly address these obstacles so as to increase diversity in the
ranks of law enforcement.
The article details what it calls barriers in the career lifecycle that result in the impediment of either
hiring or the promotion of a diverse workforce. These barriers can occur at recruitment, hiring, and
promotion stages in the career lifecycle. (Matthies 1) Recruitment barriers include the low numbers of
diverse applicants due to the lack of outreach programs designed to bring awareness of the
employment availability to minorities and women. Hiring barriers include failure to meet standards

I Believe In Neurology
Emotions have a strong influence on human lives. My mother s constant battle with anxiety began
after her mother died of a hemorrhagic stroke due to uncontrolled hypertension. Seeing her struggle
with an almost debilitating fear of illness naturally lead to towards trying to better understand the
complex interplay of disease and emotions.
I am naturally curious. In Pakistan due to limited resources and lack of foreign trained professionals,
the government hospitals affiliated with my medical school have no separate Neurology departments.
Instead of this being a hindrance, I considered it a mixed blessing. My curiosity was kindled and I
studied neuroanatomy and neurology with more vigor than most.
My desire for learning took me to the USA for clinical electives at Mount Sinai School of Medicine,
where I had the best experience in a short time frame. My interest in neurology intensified once I was

The trust placed in me by my patients humbled me and boosted my confidence in my abilities to
continue to learn and manage complicated cases. I enjoyed teaching and sharing my knowledge with
my team. Due to my enthusiasm and interest in the brain, I was offered a job at Brain Surgery. This
afforded me an amazing opportunity to view and learn about the surgical aspects of neurological
diseases. In the U.S., I continued to pursue my interest by doing various rotations with neurologist in a
variety of settings.
I am looking for a Neurology residency program which will afford me the opportunity to learn in a
comprehensive fashion taking both science and ethics into account. I am a diligent, curious, and hard
working individual and look forward to honing my interest and using my skills for the betterment of

Chamberlin Case
Chamberlain Case (1984). On 29 October 1982, in the Northern Territory Supreme Court, Lindy
Chamberlain was convicted of murdering her nine week old daughter, Azaria, by cutting her throat in
the front seat of the family car at a camping area beside Uluru (Ayers Rock) in central Australia. Her
husband, Michael, was convicted as an accessory. Appeals to the Federal Court and the High Court
were unsuccessful. The convictions were quashed in 1988 after a judicial inquiry.
Few cases have generated as much public controversy. The role of the High Court in this drama was,
however, a minor one. Controversy did not stem from the novelty and significance of the doctrinal
issues raised by the case but from the facts : the question of what had ... Show more content on

With no body, no evidence of motive and no eyewitness evidence that even vaguely incriminated the
Chamberlains, the Crown case was wholly circumstantial, and supported in the main by the claims of
expert witnesses to the effect that the state of Azaria s clothing was inconsistent with a dingo attack,
that there was a bloody handprint on the jumpsuit; and that substantial quantities of blood, including
the blood of an infant, had been found throughout the Chamberlain car.
There were many problems with the methods and findings of these witnesses, only some of which,
however, could be effectively communicated to a jury in a criminal trial. The Crown invited the jury to
infer that in a space of five to ten minutes, during which Lindy returned to the tent with the baby and
six year old Aidan, she had cut Azaria s throat and stuffed the body into Michael s camera case while
her son apparently stood by. She had then raced Aidan back to the barbecue area, where normal life
was resumed, and displayed no signs of unease or distress until the opportunity presented itself of
blaming a dingo for the baby s disappearance. The Chamberlains were said to have later buried the
body, then exhumed it so that the clothing could be placed in a strategic location to lend further
credibility to the dingo tale.
In February 1984, the High Court refused Lindy Chamberlain s appeal by majority (Murphy and
Deane dissenting). Earlier, Brennan (sitting alone) had refused her

North American Christian Convention Research Paper
In October 1927, the first ever North American Christian Convention was held in Indianapolis,
Indiana. It was one of many conventions that was held at the time and are held still to this day.
Throughout this time, the North American Christian Convention has grown and developed, but how
did it all begin and how has history shaped it into becoming what it is today? Throughout this paper I
will be discussing the different events and people, that shaped and molded the North American
Christian Convention into what it is today. To understand why the North American Christian
Convention was started we must first take a step back and look at some past events in history. The
early 1800s marks the beginning of the Restoration Movement. In 1804 a man ... Show more content

A year later, the second convention was held in Kansas City, Missouri and the third took place another
year later in Canton, Ohio. In 1930 there was no North American Christian Convention, in order that
everyone would gather together at the International Convention, in washington D.C., to celebrate the
nineteenth centennial of Pentecost. It was year of unity between the two conventions. The following
year the North American Christian Convention was held and there was division between the two
conventions once again. They were so close to the goals of Campbell s movement, yet they were so far
away. In the the following two decades the North American Christian Convention was held only seven
times because of World War II and the depression. Wartime restrictions made travel difficult and
attendance dropped during those years to 1,300. In 1950 the convention became an annual convention
and a policy was put into place to make it truly a national convention by moving it to a different area
in the United States each year. I love how intentional they were with this policy and I think it really
holds true to what the Stone Campbell movement was. They were not keeping to themselves in one
area of the county but instead they went to different areas of the country, to try and get everyone

Imtiaz Dharker
The poem They ll say she must be from another country, by Imtiaz Dharker explores the challenges of
a woman in her everyday life. She feels that she doesn t belong in the country she is living in, because
people can notice how different she is from everyone else. She makes it easy for people to understand
why she feels alienated but, at the same time feels proud of who she is. Dharker conveys her message
through the many examples of alienation given throughout her poem.
In the poem Dharker writes, When I speak on the phone and the vowel sounds are off.... they ll catch
on at once and pin it down she explains how the way she speaks is way different than the way people
in that country speak. She feels that it is easy for others to notice and that they will right away assume
that she isn t from there. There are many people that have accents and they might feel bad about it
because they don t sound like everyone else. It may seem that the way you speak shouldn t be
important because everyone speaks different but Dharker explains how her vowels may sound harsh
when they should sound soft and that is when people assume she isn t from there. It isn t the way she
speaks but, the way she pronounces her words that make her sound different from everyone else.
She explains how people think she isn t from their country because she looks different then everyone
else. When I wear a tablecloth to go to town, when they suspect I m black she feels that people just

CASE ANALYSIS:
PRESENTED: THURSDAY JUNE 15, 2006
MCI
CASE ANALYSIS
INTRODUCTION
MCI is at a critical point in their company history. After going public in 1972 they experienced several
years of operating losses. Then in 1974 the FCC ordered MCI s largest competitor AT T to supply
interconnection to MCI and the rest of the long distance market. With a more even playing field the
opportunities to increase market share and revenue were significant. In order to maximize this
opportunity MCI required capital. Their poor financial performance required them to use less
traditional instruments to obtain financing. The capital acquired supported their growth until they
reached a level of profitability in 1978. Subsequently they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shares carried a conversion price to common stock of $2.1875 per share. The call date for
conversion was 15 months later in March of 1980. At the time of the issue MCI stock was trading at a
price of $1.875. In 1977 MCI s net income and profitability ratios had improved considerably and
their forecast for 1978 earnings was in excess of $5,000,000. Debt ratios, dept to equity and return on
equity ratios would all remain within an acceptable range after the issue. (see exhibit H). In addition
the court had lifted a restriction on the Execunet service provided by MCI which was their fastest
growing business and would make significant contributions to revenue and profitability in the years to
come.
Nine months later in September of 1979 MCI raised the largest amount of financing in the company s
history by issuing 4,500,000 shares of senior convertible cumulative preferred stock with at $15 per
share with total proceeds valued at $63,125,000. The conversion date was set for 20 months later in
May 1981. This offering was supported by the improved actual and forecasted profitability of the
company and the key ratios would remain in an acceptable range following the offering. (see exhibit I)
In July of 1980 MCI issued their first subordinated debenture at a rate of 15% due in the year 2000
raising $50,545,000 in capital. This rate was 346

Why you should highly consider motorcycle riding for a hobby
I m sure by now at some point in your life you have seen a motorcycle go by and have thought to
yourself what would that be like to drive. Instead of wasting time thinking about it you can do
something about it and even get your license without owning a motorcycle. You will not get the same
experience out of buying a video game console and games which can cost over 1000usd depending on
how many games you buy. 1000usd can easily buy yourself a second hand motorcycle, and just think
after all those video games are played what have you experienced other the same 4 walls in your
room.

but don t only base your decision to try this hobby on the gas savings alone think of the many other
great reasons to give it a try.
Many times people never get past the safety or fear aspect of trying motorcycle riding. A great way to
get past the fear is to take a training course You will learn to ride using our motorcycles on a safe
closed circuit course. Our motorcycles and scooters are small and lightweight, so you can concentrate
on learning the skills of safe riding (motorcycle training academy, N.D. sec. 1.6). After you complete a
training coarse maybe you are still worried about a crash or the other drivers out there, even if you are
no longer afraid yourself of driving a motorcycle. I believe any responsible person who has been
trained to drive a motorcycle safely need not worry. The statistics although not perfect might make
you reconsider In 2005, the motorcycle fatality rate was 73 per 100,000 registered motorcycles which
is a .00073% risk of fatality from driving a motorcycle (motorcycle accident website, N.D. sec. 10.1).
If that s not enough reason just think you can reduce that .00073% chance of death by 42% 48%
percent by not drinking or speeding Of the1,791 motorcycle deaths that involved only the motorcyclist
48 percent were speeding. 42 percent had blood alcohol concentrations of 0.08

Summary Of Bertrand Russell s The Conquest Of Happiness
Bertrand Russell was a British philosopher and mathematician throughout the late 19th and 20th
centuries. He wrote in many philosophical areas, including epistemology, ethics, and metaphysics,
with some of his most notable works being Theory of Knowledge, Why I m Not a Christian, and In
Praise of Idleness. He also worked with mathematics and logic, penning Principia Mathematica and
Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950 for
various pieces of writing he had published. He was also very openly pacifist, and even went to jail in
1918 for publicly encouraging anti war ideology during World War I. Russell is widely considered to
be an incredibly influential thinker and writer. One of his popular works, The Conquest of Happiness,
discusses the unhappiness that many ordinary people suffer from and how to fix it. The first nine
chapters detail causes of unhappiness, including pessimism, competition, excitement, and emotional
fatigue. Russell displays many scenarios in which these qualities are present and why they cause such
unhappiness to begin with. He then spends seven more chapters explaining what causes happiness,
including an individual s relationships with their jobs, spouses, and other family. He demonstrates the
reasons why these are so effective in creating happiness in people and how these goals can be reached.
The book overall preaches contentment rather than total elation, relaxation rather than constant
excitement,

Head Start Essay
Head start was and still is a preschool program designed by President Lyndon B. Johnson with the
goal of eliminating poverty. His idea was to improve childhood developed by providing a positive
environment for pre kindergarten children. (Zigler and Muenchow,1992) President Johnson was the
first president to pioneer this type of program. The target group affected by this program was poverty
strict families that had no positive psychological influence. His belief was that by improving the
physical and psychological development, it would result in a change in the child s genetic traits for the
advancement of the students. By stimulating the educational success of children, this would transition
into better adult earnings and eventually put an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several hypotheses as to why this may be true. Though average Head Start classroom quality
is reported to be good (Resnick, 2010; Zill et al., 2003), it may be that the program quality remains too
low to produce the needed impact.
The outcome is extremely important for the children in this program. It seems that the responsible
authorities would ensure that the staff responsible for the Head Start Program would be held
accountable for providing a quality program for Head Start. I feel that the teachers in the Head Start
program should be held accountable just as though teachers in pre kindergarten through twelfth grade
are.
After studying this chapter, I came to the conclusion that like most real life situations, you get out of
something what you put into it. The quality program translates in positive outcomes and poorly run
programs struggle to improve outcomes. In other words, quality input will result in quality outcome. I
have always been familiar with the Head Start program, but I never really understood that the ultimate
goal was to eliminate poverty. Since reading and studying in this chapter, I have a better understanding
of the Head Start Program. This program has had its share of problems, and may not have been an end
to all poverty, but you must appreciate the percentage of success. A small amount of success is better
than no success at

Calculating The Collision Diameter And Viscosity Of A Gas
Calculating the Collision Diameter and Viscosity of a Gas by
Measuring Pressure Over Time as the Gas is Evacuated from a Cell
Michelle Plavnik
Department of Chemistry, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, 30322, United States
PAGE 2
ABSTRACT: The aim of this experiment was calculating the values of viscosity and collision
diameter for nitrogen gas, argon gas, and dry air. This objective was carried out by filling a glass bulb
to a pressure of about 700 Torr with the desired gas and letting it evacuate the bulb through a capillary
over a ten minute period. The pressure was recorded every five seconds. The inverse pressure was
graphed against time, and a linear regression along with a least squares were performed. The slope of
the line of best fit was used to calculate the capillary radius, which was then used to calculate the
viscosities of the gases, which were used to calculate the collision diameters. The experimental values
were compared to the literature values by percent difference, and it was found that this technique is
not effective. Percent errors ranged from 0% to 30%. To make the values more accurate, the
assumptions made in calculations need to be the same for all values. To take the experiment further it
could be performed at other pressures, temperatures, and on other gases. Understanding properties like
collision diameter and viscosity of gases are important in fields such as gas phase reaction dynamics.
Introduction Gas phase reaction dynamics is an

Physical Preparation For A Successful Marathon
The theory or idea of running 26 miles come from the story of pheidippides, a greek messenger who
ran 26 miles to inform greek forces of their victory in the city of marathon. A marathon is long
distance race, which is 26.2 miles long. Many people think that 26 miles is impossible to run, but with
the right training and eating habits its possible. One thing people should always keep in mind is that
mental preparation plays a big role in a successful marathon. Running marathons have great
advantages, it s good for weight loss, healthy, and fun to participate in. A person might want to run a
marathon to test their limits or just prove they can go the distance. perhaps a friend has talked them
into it or just simply want to lose weight. Whatever the reason might be it would require a lot of
training. Training is defined as making or becoming prepared for a test or skill. By following a
marathon training schedule, you will develop gradually through four training phases: endurance,
strength, speed, and tapering. Many marathon professionals suggest that people training for a
marathon should train for at least five months. Most marathon plans account for at least one cross
training workout each week during your five months of your training. Cross training may consist of
strength training, cycling, swimming or another form of exercise that targets your muscles in a way
different from running. Cross training helps you keep your training interesting and encourages more

Frances Piper: The Devil s Advocate?
In Fall On Your Knees, Ann Marie MacDonald presents a vivid and life like character in Frances
Piper. Frances Piper is one of the four Piper girls, and she is different from the rest of them. From her
early childhood, Frances is a bold and naughty girl who is always getting herself into trouble. She has
a great mischievous streak which troubles her father, James Piper, immensely. James Piper himself has
a demon like personality at various times throughout the novel, some of which he collects from his
father in his early childhood. In a similar fashion to Frances s father s past, the reader can visualize
Frances getting accustomed to her father s personality and see her become a demon ... Show more

Frances starts to smoke, drink, and perform very cheap shows at the age of sixteen. She is prostituting
herself to older men, and it is horrible because of the manner she is performing her acts: Frances will
bounce in your lap with your fly buttoned for as long as it takes for two bucks . . . A hand job costs
two fifty she has a special glove she wears, left over from her first communion. (293) Using a
communion glove to perform vile acts is atrocious, because when that glove is used for a religious
service, not a vile act. This is an instance where the reader can start to imagine that Frances may be
representing the Devil because of her actions. Laura Robinson states that instead of labouring quietly
for little pay, doing charitable work, and having reverence for patriarchs, Frances performs loudly,
prostitutes herself, and demonstrates no respect for her father (Robinson 37). However, she also goes
on to say that France works to provide the funds for Lily s escape from home and the dangers of the
family (Robinson 37). MacDonald also mentions in the novel that Frances wants to start saving her
money for Lily, and is putting her money away in a secret place (293). She realizes that what she is
doing is for a good cause: to protect her younger sister Lily and to save enough money to send her
away when the time comes. At heart,

  • 2. Character Analysis Of Good Will Hunting The movie Good Will Hunting an American Drama Film was directed by Gus Van Sant, and starring Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver and Stellan Skarsgard in 1997. This movie is about a man named Good Will Hunting who was a genius but chose not to live as a genius because of fear of past experiences and the ill treatment he received when he was in foster home. Some of the other characters in the movie were supportive and some were not supportive of him. This essay discusses Good Will s personality traits and his interaction with the other characters in the movie. Good Will Hunting possessed the following personality traits, namely: independence, intense interest in a problem, and the need for stimulation. Good Will Hunting was independent because he chose to live his own way and not conforming himself to society s pressure. Good Will Hunting proved his independence by self imposed limitation, meaning limiting his ability to enjoy complete freedom. Throughout the movie, he rejected his natural talents or gifts and initially chose to stay in South Boston with his friends. Like in the case with his girlfriend, Good Will Hunting refused to get close to people with the fear of being rejected at the end. Moreover, he refused to get higher paying jobs as was in the case of Sean Maguire, the psychology professor, who later became his counselor. It was during these counselling sessions with Good Will Hunting that we learned, Sean Maguire, was also talented in advanced mathematics, but rejected the opportunity to teach at Harvard and chose to teach at a local community college instead. Similarly, Good Will Hunting chose to remain a janitor or a construction worker where he was more comfortable. Not just did he poses the trait of independency, he also had the character of intensity of interest in a problem. As per his intensity of interest in a problem, Good Will Hunting would obsess about a problem that was presented to him until he had discovered a solution. Some examples of this in the movie were the initial math problems on the chalkboard where he could not stop working on them until he had a solution. Another is when he completed the complex homework problem for his girlfriend Skylar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Relationship Between Adulthood And Late Adulthood Journal #8: Relationships Young Adulthood to Late Adulthood During early adulthood ages twenty to forty, people enter the achieving stage according to the developmental psychologist K. Warner Shaie. In this stage young adults begin to be more focused on making decisions on what to do for the rest of their lives and whom to form relationships with. These decisions will soon make up the core of their happiness throughout adulthood. According to the psychologist Erik Erikson, this challenge of forming relationships is called the intimacy versus isolation stage. Those who are successful in the stage have no problem in forming intimate relationships and are willing to sacrifice for others. Those who have a hard time often result to loneliness with a growing fear of relationships. This could be a result of failure to form an identity for oneself in Erikson s previous stage of identity versus confusion. In psychologist Bernard Murstein s stimulus value role theory, people attempt to form close relationships through three stages stimulus, value, and the role stage; hints the name. In the stimulus stage relationships are built mainly on physical attraction. If a person looks appealing you might want to go out of your way to strike up a conversation with that person. In the value stage you start to find out what things you both have in common in values and beliefs; this usually happens in the second to seventh contact with one another. Lastly in the role stage the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Selfishness In A Monster Calls By Patrick Ness Selfishness, a quality that best shines in times of isolation, forces others to become aware of one s need for attention. Patrick Ness portrays this trait in A Monster Calls in a way that makes the readers realize that the burden of a secret is too great for anyone of any age to carry. Conor O Malley is thirteen, but his experiences and hardships are ones that those who are beyond their years have not necessarily needed to overcome. Taking into account his mother s worsening condition, he does not want to let his surroundings affect him more than they already have. Under the influence of the Monster, Conor allows himself to act in accordance to his situation instead of keeping everything to himself without an outlet for his emotions. Conor s selfishness, which is seen throughout the novel, affects his interactions with others in drawing out their flaws. To retaliate against his father, Lily and his grandma for putting him in situations that cause him suffering, Conor must act in this selfish manner regardless of the consequences. Beginning with his father, Conor witnesses how a parent can be unwilling to give their all for their children and acts selfishly in order to make him aware of this fact. He faces a reality of life at the time of his parent s divorce; there was nothing he could do to keep them together. As a result, the bond he has with his father is imperfect. There is a clear barrier between the two that emerges from the distance that separates them. Even as Conor yearns for a proper parent figure in his life, he is unable to have one and he allows himself to act selfishly towards his father because he will eventually be the only parent Conor has left. By confessing to his father that he does not want to live with grandma (Ness, 88) and asking his father questions about why can t [he] come and live with (Ness, 88) him, Conor wants his father to own up to his responsibilities as a parent. Despite being aware his wishes will not be granted, but he wants his father to realize how less he commits to caring for his son when he needs him the most. If all his father wants to do is make promises to only break them, then he might as well push his father to his limits and demand things from him regardless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Michael Moore Capitalism Synopsis Michael Moore is the writer and director of the highly relevant documentary film, Capitalism: A Love Story. To me, the most interesting chapter of the film is Dead Peasants. Moore talked about capitalism is a system of giving and taking, mostly taking . In my opinion, it sounds true for me. Moore illustrated Irma Johnson s husband Dan ironic case. Who recently died of cancer, leaving behind Irma and their two sons. They filmed the woman cried and sadly talked about her husband. Her husband worked in middle management at Amegy Bank in Houston, Texas. Amegy had taken out a secret life insurance policy on Dan s life. The bank generously named itself as the beneficiary in the event of Dan s death. Dan s death made them $1.5 million richer by the insurance company accidentally informed Irma that Amegy Bank had received a check for $1.5 million just weeks after Dan died. Irma Johnson cried in pain that she didn t know anything and they never told her. Why the company try to profit from employee s death?. How are these companies able to get away with this?. • 7. Devil Facial Tumor Disease Analysis Devil Facial Tumor Disease (DFTD) can be recognized by lumps around the face and neck. (Evolution.berkeley.edu, 2008),which causes starvation in 12 18 months due to feeding difficulties and therefore death (Deakin and Belov, 2012) . This fatal disease affects only Tasmanian devils, marsupial carnivores of Tasmania. Scientists reported that devils may be responding to DFTD by breeding earlier before the disease kills them, which could help the species survive longer (Hamede, McCallum and Jones, 2012). DFTD spreads due to biting between animals during mating or feeding. The cancer cells themselves are the infective agent, as opposed to a transmissible virus that leads to Tumor formation. in the case of the devils (Pearse et al., 2012), the genes that could differentiate between own and foreign cells are so similar between the cancer and host, that the devil s immune system does not identify the cancer, ... • 8. Norman Bates Research Paper After stealing a large sum of money from her boss in order to marry the man she loves, poor office worker Marion Crane flees the city to her lover, but soon finds herself lost and checking into a deserted motel. There she discovers that its young depressed manager, Norman Bates is an unrelenting killer with a dissociative identity disorder. The actions and personality traits displayed by Norman Bates can be explained by two distinct theories, those of Sigmund Freud and Abraham Maslow. Freud s theory stems from the belief that traumatic events, usually from childhood, are repressed by the conscious mind; yet remain in the subconscious, where they proceed to act as a constant source of neuroses and psychoses. Freud believed that the majority of repressed memories relate to sexuality. In Psycho, Norman Bates is said to have murdered his mother and her lover in a jealous rage after finding them in bed together. These actions can be further explained by Freud s theory of Infantile Sexuality. Freud theorized that Infantile Sexuality occurred when a child s sexual instincts are present in childhood but later are repressed. A normal childhood would be one in which ... Knowing the history can lead to even more discoveries in the future. When you think of anatomy you imagine something like this picture below. But here is where it all began.... The beginning of anatomy and physiology, ironically, began with a curiosity in biology. The first man to create an important contribution to biology was Alcmaeon, in the 5th century, BC. He was the first scientist to have worked with dissection. His focus was in trying to find out from where and how human intelligence came to be. His research never intended to be anatomical. He merely stumbled upon anatomical research. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is famous for his dissection of apes and pigs, it is said he never once dissected a human cadaver. He believed apes were anatomically identical to humans. His work was never questioned until 100 s of years later when, Vesalius, a Renaissance anatomist showed people the difference between apes and humans. He discovered more than 200 differences. In 1540, Vesalius showed exactly what Galen was wrong about. Galen s work was much respected regardless. He got a lot right, but also a fair amount wrong . For example, he stated that apes had hearts with 3 ventricles, as did humans. During the Renaissance era, slicing open human cadavers was approved by many people, but unfortunately a lot of professors bypassed the idea. Vesalius was a very dedicated man. He did dissect criminals, but he also managed to snatch the bodies himself. Based on his research, Vesalius created a very detailed book called De Humani Corporis Fabrica.(The Structure of the Human Body). This was the most famous anatomy book of that era. Just like Galen, Hippocrates never once dissected a human cadaver. He stated that dissection was unpleasant if not cruel, as stated on page 53 of the book Stiff by Mary Roach. Hippocrates believed tendons to be nerves and believed the brain was a mucous secreting gland. Hippocrates was dubbed the Father of Medicine. Excess forages are cut to be baled for hay or they are ensiled, which means to be cut and stored in a silo or similar type facility to be preserved as silage. Another newer and more popular use of forages are as cover crops in between growing seasons. This is a good way to improve soil health and it also creates another grazing area for livestock. There are three main types of forages in Australia: sorghum, millet, and cover crops. The first mentioned, sorghum, is the best known of the three. Although sorghum can be harvested as grain, it is also used as a forage crop. Sorghum has a very high production potential which makes it a great feed source for livestock. There are two main hybrids of sorghum that are grown in Australia, and they are: sudan x sorghum where the bulk of this feed is available in the summer and autumn and sweet sorghum where the bulk of feed is available in autumn. • 14. Solutions-Focused Therapy Essay Solutions focused therapy is a relatively new and welcomed therapy developed by Steve de Shazer and his wife Insoo Kim Berg, in 1979 at their institute, the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Guterman, 2010, p. 350). Shazer was interested in how to influence change (Nichols, 2008, p. 346). Solution focused therapy deals in solutions as opposed to dwelling on problems. Increasingly stringent budgeting constraints emphasize the need to develop shorter and more focused therapy sessions without sacrificing successful outcomes (Nichols, 2008). The drawback to solution focused therapy would be that for those not experienced, therapists may be unable to decipher what real underlying issues are involved (Guterman, 2010). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clients in working with their therapists learn to rethink their situations. They learn to look at their life as the glass half full, instead of almost empty. Showing clients how to spot the flowers in a sea of weeds enables them to face adversity or misfortune with an attitude of, yes, that was a bad hit, but how do we move on from here? Where do I want to go tomorrow? How am I going to get there? Solutions focused therapy enables a client to multiply a smidgen of courage into enough to conquer a problem. Assisting clients to re set their thinking stays with clients long after the therapy session has ended, and is another excellent benefit of solutions focused therapy. Not surprisingly, Iveson (2002) found that solutions focused therapy was effective in a severe phobia case, while he was working with a client experiencing agoraphobia. According to the Mayo Clinic ( 2009) agoraphobia can severely limit your ability to socialize, work, attend important events and even manage the details of daily life, such as running errands (para. 1). In working with his client, Iveson discovered that the client did go up and down stairs in her home that ran right beside the front door. Some days, the client had to sit on the top step and talk herself into making the descent, but after time had passed, she could make the trip down and back up. Once the client had remembered what she was able to do, Iveson concentrated on that success, which was then followed by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I m glad I had a second chance in life like you said to be smart because I learned a lot of things that I never knew were in this world, and I m grateful I saw it even for a little bit (Keys, 119). This quote describes both books because they are narrated in unusual ways which make us view the book in a different way than we would have under normal circumstances. Also, both in Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keys, and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, both characters face big changes in their life which cause them to lose the people they love the most. Every time. It s his only detriment. He steps on my heart. He makes me cry (Zusak, 329). The government through the parliament passed a bill that saw the creation of the Constituency Development Act that was aimed to rationalize development across the country by ensuring that all areas across Kenya had a fair share of the money set aside for development. Through the various committees established in each constituency, students in the universities are able to access bursaries to aid them in paying school fees. • 19. Fate And Fate In The Open Boat By Stephen Crane Title They then briefly exchanged some addresses and admonition. As for the reflections of the men, there was a great deal of rage in them. Perchance they might be formulated thus: If I am going to drowned if I am going to be drowned if I am going to be drowned, why, in the name of the seven mad gods who rule the sea, was I allowed to come this far and contemplate sand and trees? Was I brought here merely to have my nose dragged away as I was about to nibble the sacred cheese of life? It is preposterous. If this old ninny woman, Fate, cannot do better than this, she should be deprived of the management of men s fortunes. She is an old hen who knows not her intention. If she has decided to drown me, why did she not do it in the beginning and save me all this trouble. The whole affair is absurd...But, no, she cannot mean to drown me. She dares not drown me. She cannot drown me. Not after all this work.: Afterward the man might have had an impulse to shake his fist at the clouds, Just you drown me, now, and then hear what I call you! Henry Dimitroff November 3, 2016 Course Project Introduction: In the article Identifying Barriers to Diversity in Law Enforcement Agencies by Carl F. Matthies, Kirsten M. Keller, and Nelson Lim the issue of diversity in the law enforcement workforce is brought to task. They show through the use of research that law enforcement agencies can do their jobs better if they resemble the population they are supposed to be protecting. Police community relations are negatively affected by the disparity of racial composition between agencies and communities combined with heavy handed tactics. The intentions of this article is to offer a thorough analysis of a method intended to reduce this disparity. This method is known as barrier analysis which means it analysis issues or problems such as this (diversity in law enforcement) for specific obstacles. The intent is to use this knowledge to directly address these obstacles so as to increase diversity in the ranks of law enforcement. The article details what it calls barriers in the career lifecycle that result in the impediment of either hiring or the promotion of a diverse workforce. These barriers can occur at recruitment, hiring, and promotion stages in the career lifecycle. (Matthies 1) Recruitment barriers include the low numbers of diverse applicants due to the lack of outreach programs designed to bring awareness of the employment availability to minorities and women. Her husband, Michael, was convicted as an accessory. Appeals to the Federal Court and the High Court were unsuccessful. The convictions were quashed in 1988 after a judicial inquiry. With no body, no evidence of motive and no eyewitness evidence that even vaguely incriminated the Chamberlains, the Crown case was wholly circumstantial, and supported in the main by the claims of expert witnesses to the effect that the state of Azaria s clothing was inconsistent with a dingo attack, that there was a bloody handprint on the jumpsuit; and that substantial quantities of blood, including the blood of an infant, had been found throughout the Chamberlain car. There were many problems with the methods and findings of these witnesses, only some of which, however, could be effectively communicated to a jury in a criminal trial. The Crown invited the jury to infer that in a space of five to ten minutes, during which Lindy returned to the tent with the baby and six year old Aidan, she had cut Azaria s throat and stuffed the body into Michael s camera case while her son apparently stood by. She had then raced Aidan back to the barbecue area, where normal life was resumed, and displayed no signs of unease or distress until the opportunity presented itself of blaming a dingo for the baby s disappearance. The Chamberlains were said to have later buried the body, then exhumed it so that the clothing could be placed in a strategic location to lend further credibility to the dingo tale. He also worked with mathematics and logic, penning Principia Mathematica and Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy. Russell is widely considered to be an incredibly influential thinker and writer. One of his popular works, The Conquest of Happiness, discusses the unhappiness that many ordinary people suffer from and how to fix it. The first nine chapters detail causes of unhappiness, including pessimism, competition, excitement, and emotional fatigue. Russell displays many scenarios in which these qualities are present and why they cause such unhappiness to begin with. He then spends seven more chapters explaining what causes happiness, including an individual s relationships with their jobs, spouses, and other family. Calculating The Collision Diameter And Viscosity Of A Gas Calculating the Collision Diameter and Viscosity of a Gas by Measuring Pressure Over Time as the Gas is Evacuated from a Cell Michelle Plavnik Department of Chemistry, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, 30322, United States PAGE 2 ABSTRACT: The aim of this experiment was calculating the values of viscosity and collision diameter for nitrogen gas, argon gas, and dry air. This objective was carried out by filling a glass bulb to a pressure of about 700 Torr with the desired gas and letting it evacuate the bulb through a capillary over a ten minute period. The pressure was recorded every five seconds. The inverse pressure was graphed against time, and a linear regression along with a least squares were performed. The slope of the line of best fit was used to calculate the capillary radius, which was then used to calculate the viscosities of the gases, which were used to calculate the collision diameters. The experimental values were compared to the literature values by percent difference, and it was found that this technique is not effective. Percent errors ranged from 0% to 30%. To make the values more accurate, the assumptions made in calculations need to be the same for all values. To take the experiment further it could be performed at other pressures, temperatures, and on other gases. Understanding properties like collision diameter and viscosity of gases are important in fields such as gas phase reaction dynamics. Introduction Gas phase reaction dynamics is an ...
