Byzantine Walls Pros And Cons
There are many walls around the world that exist and are designed to keep people out, or in, a certain
area. These walls actually originated long ago and for the same purpose. The Byzantine empire was a
tremendously educated empire that had a rich culture, which may have affected our military strategies
and defences. The Byzantines had walls that were called the Theodorin walls because Theodora was a
brave and fearless leader in her time. She fought against plague and rebellions, but she held strong
throughout the Dark Ages. The Byzantines assembled a wall in her honor and to protect their culture
and civilization. The Byzantine defenses, more likely the most important defenses of the sixth hundred
century are due to the teachings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hollywood vs History Essay
History vs. Hollywood
The Patriot The Revolutionary war, sparked by the colonist s anger towards taxation without
representation, was a conflict between the United States and its mother country Great Britain. This
event had been considered the most significant event in the American history. It separated the thirteen
colonies from the tyrannical ruling of King George. The revolutionary war was not a big war, The
military conflict was, by the standards of later wars, a relatively modest one. Battle deaths on the
American side totaled fewer than 5,000 1. However, the war proved that the thirteen colonies were
capable of defeating the powerful Great Britain. Over the years there were many Hollywood films
made based on the revolutionary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the revolutionary war, slaves were not treated the way that they were treated in the movie.
Also the scene it showed a message by George Washington stating that slaves who fought one year in
the war for the continental cause were freed and paid five shillings a month 3 This was fictional and
speaking of fictional, in the Patriot only one black man fought for the continental army, in reality there
were many black man fought against the British army.1 With award winning actors and screenwriters,
the Hollywood version of the revolutionary war must be kicked up . Much additional and fictional
information were added to the movie, just to make the movie more exciting and do well in the box
office. Two kids and one man with couple rifles killing a dozen British soldiers seems a little too over
the top, but it does add a little excitement. The use of flag waving was just too magical in the movie.
Every time something goes wrong for the Continental army, Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibbson) waves
the flag and all the soldiers are pumped and ready for war. The Hollywood version of British
commanders is very different from the real commanders. In the movie, the commander was cruel and
brutal, and the movie version of Cornwallis is gullible and doesn t care about the war. In reality, the
commanders obeyed orders and followed the laws of war and Cornwallis was a great

The World Is Too Much With Us
Robert Frost, who is a four time Pulitzer Prize winner in poetry, also known as American poet hero
who has written many famous poems which includes The Road Not Taken and Stopping by woods on
snowy evening . In the poem Stopping by woods on snowy evening, Frost explain how the speaker has
though task which includes deciding whether to forget his problems and stay with the nature and stay
far away from people or go back and follow his responsibilities and spend rest of his life in city. As

which shows affinity for nature. William Wordsworth in his poem The world is too much with us,
represents similar theme as how humans have lost their connections with nature, in which in his
opinion it is now only found in memories. In his opinion, we are no longer connected with natural
world. Frost and Wordsworth in their respective poems uses unique rhyme, scheme, symbolism,
metaphor and alliteration to explain their own perspective on how people struggles between
modernize world and nature of the world and end neglecting the natural world. Frost, in his opening
line of his poem uses an Imagery sentence, Whose woods these are I think I know. (1 2) To point out
where he is and as per his knowledge who owns this land. He also mentions that the owner lives in
village where civilization lies. Speaker then stated how he wanted to stay with the nature and admire

Why Do People Fall Under Nazi Rule
Under Nazi rule, most countries could do nothing but comply. They all had to fall under Nazi rule and
do as they said. That meant turning over their Jews and doing exactly as Hitler demanded. Some
people showed moral courage in the face of the Nazis instead, but rarely was there a whole country
that tried to save themselves before falling under German demand. However, there was one country
that didn t comply despite its disadvantage to Germany: Denmark resisted Nazi rule which shows a
great example of a whole country working together to save their people.
When Denmark was invaded during World War II, they decided to try and resist their rule instead of
comply with all of their demands. One of these was trying to take all of the Jews. An example of
saving them was Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz who was a German diplomat. When he learned that
Germany was planning to purge all of the Jews, he warned the country so that they were able to get

There are many stories about a single person or a small group of people who risked their lives to save
Jews during World War II. However, it is rare to see a whole country able to do such an amazing,
courageous thing for people living in their boarders. The Jews got government help to get away from
Nazi rule and not every country did this. This story is inspiring because it shows that even a whole
country and chose to do the right things when faced with an impossible choice. To most countries, it
seemed as if the only thing they could do was comply with Nazi orders and fall under their rule. For
Denmark, though, it was the opposite. They found it impossible to do anything but save their citizens.
This story can give us hope to resist a bigger force and ignore the consequences if it is for a better
cause. This shows how many people can come under a good moral direction: one toward helping

Health Emergency Of International Concern Essay
The earth as a whole is pretty stable; lives on earth remain relatively safe, growing and increasing in
population every day. Diseases and sickness comes to play now and then, but, for the most part, affect
the poor and undeveloped countries most heavy; developed countries like the U.S.A. have solutions
and vaccine for diseases and thus fear of sickness do not arise often. However, when they do, it is can
become a pandemic, a massive widespread of hazardous disease that potentially threatens the human
population. To prevent epidemics, countries formed the World Health Organization (WHO) to create
the Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) to help announce an event of an
extreme health hazard that spread (or is spreading) internationally and need international coalition to
cure or resolve. There are multiple phrases to pandemic before the PHEIC happens. To explore the
phases of a pandemic and when a PHEIC occur, I carried out simulation through a game called
Pandemic II to evaluate the phases and the reaction of the world and WHO. Before talking about the
simulation, there needs to be an understanding of the phases of a pandemic: Interpandemic phase,
Alert phases, Pandemic phase, Transition phase. Each phase carries a special role in how the world
react to solve a pandemic. The Interpandemic phase is more of a cautionary phase; nothing is
happening during this phase and life goes on normally. However, countries should be on the lookout
of potential arising

Stereotypes
Speech is much like the fashions in clothing. Most of us dress according to the style of the day. The
shoes we wear and the shirts we put on usually what is considered fashionable. If you choose to ignore
the understood dress rules set by society, than your chances of being accepted become slim. In the
same manner, when you ignore the majority s methods of speech, you become less accepted for it. If
you buy a cool Tommy Hilfiger shirt, nobody looks at you any less for giving in to the standard
instead of wearing a pink and orange poke a dotted shirt like you might have wanted to. You have not
degraded yourself for conforming, but instead have opened opportunities for an audience. Just the

When reading Anzaldua s essay, I could not help thinking how ridiculous it is for someone to be
prejudged based solely on the language they speak. She states If a person, Chicana or Latina, has a
low estimation of my native tongue, she also has a low estimation of me. This is not how things
should work. Stereotypes control too much of our perceptions of different people. Knowing that
people rely on stereotypes to judge unfamiliar people, I do not believe that it is wrong to change our
language to fit into another situation. If we change our methods of speech, then we are more likely to
be heard and have our ideas appreciated. In the movie Educating Rita, Rita is a hair dresser who
speaks the working class dialect in Britain. Upon enrolling in a university, she realizes that she is very
out of place and tries on many different identities and languages to fit in. Although no one ever comes
out and ridicules her for speaking the way she does, there is always the pressure looming over her to
conform to the rest of the students in their way of speaking. Rita was doing what she had to do to fit
in. If she was to go her own route and continue talking the same that she did when she entered the
college, she would not have many friends and her peers would not take her seriously. But she does
change to a certain degree to fit into the student mold, and her social life benefits as a result.

The purpose of this report is defining the effect on the sale price of a house by lot size of property and
the number of bedrooms. Firstly, basing on a data which contains 450 observations, then we will show
the chart s relationship of the number 3 factors which are bedrooms with the sale price of houses, the
number of bedrooms with lot size, and lot size with the houses sale price. Secondly, the model of the
sale price of houses will be given and explain how we get that model. Finally, it will give answers of
some question which are does the number of bedrooms have a positive impact on the average market
price of houses with a fixed set of other characteristics? And how much? How much does the average
price of a house increase if the lot size is increased by 1 square foot, with all other characteristics held
constant? As the information of question we know the sale price of a house is depended on two factors
that is the number of bedroom and lot size. There are the chart of relationship chart between the
number of bedrooms and the house s price: We can see that is positive relationship of the house price
with number of bedrooms and the house price with lot size are positive, then when the number of
bedrooms or lot size are increasing then the house s price also increase. We can predict the coefficient
of the number of bedrooms and lot size in house price model that is positive. The model that shows

Character Comparison: Macbeth Throne of Blood
In the tragic play by Shakespeare, The Tragedy of Macbeth Macbeth, and the Japanese film, Throne of
Blood, many characters are direct parallels of each other. There are many similarities and yet, key
differences within each of the characters. Macbeth and Washizu share many of the same character
traits, as do their wives, Lady Macbeth and Asaji, respectively. We can also see these similarities
between Banquo and Miki and the three witches and the Forest Spirit. Macbeth and Washizu are
subject to their ambition and fear as they ascend to kingship, while Lady Macbeth and Asaji are
plagued by their desire for social status and wealth. Banquo and ... Show more content on

They both have the will to manipulate and command the actions of their husbands and show
tremendous resolve to gain wealth and status. However, there are some key differences between Lady
Macbeth and Asaji. Lady Macbeth s mental health takes longer to decline into almost complete
insanity. We see Lady Macbeth struggling with her position after becoming Queen. She is stressed
about keeping the throne secure and is not as happy as she thought she might be. It takes a while but
eventually she cracks and has somewhat of a mental breakdown. Asaji on the other hand keeps her
composure throughout most of the film. She is obviously concerned about succeeding in her
endeavors but she was able to keep her focus unlike Lady Macbeth. It is only very suddenly that she
suffers the same fate as Lady Macbeth. Both women are found washing nonexistent blood from their
hands while sleepwalking. One other crucial difference between the two women is their role as women
within their respective societies. Lady Macbeth does not wish to be treated like a woman at all. At one
point in the play she even says, Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill
me from the crown to the toe topful of direst cruelty! (Shakespeare 1.5:40 44) Asaji takes a vastly
different path when it comes to her role as a woman. Her body language within the film shows that
she is willing to take on her role as a prominent

Letter To Peter Driscal s Lessons
I m Edwin from Alaska. Today I request Peter Driscal live with Cole Matthews on the island to help
him get out of the depression and stop committing suicide. After Cole has stayed alone on the island
for almost one year, Cole has done many different activities which made him change. Because Cole
suffered from the near death experience in his first banishment, anger was not full of his mind. During
the second time of his banishment, Cole has been modified. He is not a mad boy who shows his anger
every day so it s appropriate to send Peter to the island to stay with Cole and get healed from the
Circle Justice.
First, Cole has the ability to control his mind. I told Cole it s important to focus the happy end of the

How Roadways and Public transit have impacted the city
The top issue in Toronto was the poor performance of public transit such as buses, streetcars, and
subway trains. The TTC system is of very bad performance that even many transit systems in third
world countries provide users with better experiences than trasit users have in Toronto. The current
major problems with TTC are: crowding during rush periods and insufficient ridership to justify
reasonable service levels at other times. Another problem was that Rob Ford was unwilling to accept a
proposal to reduce monitoring of fare payment. I have problems with the honour system, he said. John
Tory opposed the recommendations because they are not funded. But funding such service changes ...

In June of last year the TTC announced their plan to replace tickets and tokens by integrating Presto, a
Metrolinx smart card system all across the TTC by the end of this year. Tickets and tokens will only
be accepted to mid 2017. Public transit is one of the only means of transportation for people in this
situation, they usually have to chose between basic needs or fare. Also a study in Edmonton showed
that provding youths with monthly transit passes reduces their encounter with the police or any
criminal justice system. With new changes with the TTC they lack to consider these people in this
economic state. The Presto card cost $6 and needs a minimal of $10 in it, which is paid eithier by
credit, debit, or cash. Many people who don t have fixed adresses are not able to own a bank or credit
card. These people then have to use change to load the cards and with the Presto process which then
the card takes 7 10 days to arrive, it s more of hassle for people than to just carry over change, tickets,
or tokens. Also an overall concern about this machine is not only does it have acess to peoples finicial
accounts, but it also tracks our movemnts which many people are uncomfortable with, as we do not
know who has acess to this information or how they will use

Suspense In The Most Dangerous Game By Richard Connell
Suspense is that feeling of stress or anxiety because you are uncertain of what the story will bring
next. When all of the events in a story are falling into place and are climbing to its highest potential.
Some stories have more of a suspense than others depending on what methods the author uses to
display suspense.
The first method of creating suspense in a story is the pace. Whether the pace of a story is slow or fast,
it can help with the buildup of suspense. In some ways it is like a roller coaster ride. You may have a
sigh of relief for that character in a certain situation, only to find out at the very next moment that they
have come upon an even worse one, just like the up and down motions of a roller coaster ride. In the
short story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell the story has many twist and turns that you
would not expect. The passage below best fits pace. But no animal can reason objected rainsford My
dear fellow, said the general, there is one that can.
But you can t mean Gasped rainsford.
And why not? I can t believe you are serious General Zaroff. This is a grisly joke. Why should I be
serious? I am speaking of hunting. Hunting General Zaroff. What you speak of is murder. (35) ...

warm and welcoming at first, giving him information about the forest and land as well as opening up
his home. As time goes on, he is requested to go hunt or his life will be at stake. Another way the
author can create suspense in a story is through mood. By setting the mood, you are creating an
overall atmosphere and feel of that moment in the story. In this passage the author is creating the
mood of the forest he is out hunting

The Sound and the Fury Essay
The Sound and the Fury
Title:
The title of this novel is The Sound and the Fury. This title is derived from one of Shakespeare s most
intriguing plays, Macbeth. Within Macbeth, Shakespeare describes life as a tale told by an idiot, full of
sound and fury. And if life is a tale told by an idiot, there is justification as to of why Faulkner begins
the book through the eyes of Benjy, a thirty three year old retard.
Author:
The author of The Sound and the Fury is William Faulkner. He grew up in Oxford, Mississippi. After
dropping out of high school, Faulkner pursued his studies at the University of Mississippi. And he was
a member of England s Royal Navy in World War I. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This eventually leads him to commit suicide. He is the only character in the novel who is obsessed
with honor and sexuality. And when he can t find any love from his mother, he turns to Caddy.
Quentin does not want to forget how he handled Caddy s promiscuity because he believes that if he
were to forget the entire experience would be meaningless although he is haunted by it. And in the
end, Quentin commits suicide by drowning himself in the river.
The next major character of this novel is Jason Compson. And the third section of the book is seen
through his eyes and revolves around him. From this section, the reader learns that Jason is a selfish,
demented, and emotionless bachelor who would never give in to the idea of marriage. Jason is selfish
in that he believes that he is always right and that the world should work the way that fits him best. He
is demented in that he enjoys quarreling with people. One good example of this is when he arrives to
work late in hopes that he will have the chance to argue with his boss. And he is emotionless in that he
doesn t feel for anyone and doesn t believe in love.
The next major character found in the book is Dilsey. And although the last section is from the author
s point of view, it revolves around Dilsey, the cook for the Compson family. She treats Benjy like a
normal person and assumes that his needs are the same as the rest

Assessment Of Treatment Effect Evidence
3.4. Imprecision
Similar to the imprecision assessment of treatment effect evidence, the imprecision assessment for
relative importance of outcomes scrutinise the confidence interval and the sample size. What is
challenging is because diversified study designs, result presentations or methodologies are used,
usually there is no confidence interval constructed, or there is not a simple way to calculate the
minimum sample size with sufficient power to produce a narrow estimate for the relative importance
outcomes.[53]
3.4.1. Confidence interval
3.4.1.1. Is the confidence interval narrow (for systematic reviews)? (Answer options: Yes; probably
yes; probably no; No)
The answers of yes or probably yes suggest a precise estimate, while no or probably no suggest
imprecision estimate.
Rationale: To consider imprecision, systematic review authors need to decide whether confidence
interval around the estimate is sufficient narrow. Unfortunately, we do not have an empirical narrow
confidence interval for relative importance of outcomes evidence.
Due to diversity in study designs, methodology and presentation of results, there could be situations
without confidence intervals, for example, the result reported could be the proportion of willing to
accept the prophylaxis treatment if the risk of adverse events decreased by 5%.
3.4.1.2. Does the confidence interval exclude the clinical decision threshold between recommending
and not recommending a treatment (for clinical practice

Causes of Workplace Stress
Causes of Workplace Stress
There are many factors that can exacerbate the causes of stress in the workplace. The challenges faced
by people in the workplace make the job more exciting and interesting. However, there are challenges
that can also have negative effects. The normal reaction to stress is tension, anxiety and excitement
and work life goes back to normal after a while. If however, the stress becomes overwhelming or if it
happens too often, there can be a problem getting back to the normal state and one is no longer able to
relax. The most common causes of stress in the workplace are the following:

Work bullies or co workers who make life miserable for you can also be a cause of workplace stress.
Job stress for women can also be caused by sexual harassment from colleagues or superiors. The
constant worry and isolation gives so much tension to a female employee leading to a hostile work
environment. This is a situation in which one is forced to deal with an intimidating and offensive
workplace everyday. This affects the ability to perform and to grow and be given credit in one s
chosen career. Success and advancement becomes hard, making the female worker frustrated and
unsatisfied.
One of the worst causes of stress in almost all workplace is a hostile working environment that can
come as a result of workplace bullying, sexual harassment or discrimination. These problems can only
be solved if a worker is well aware of her rights and if the company or the organization has provided a
proper forum that will address and solve such problems.
In the workplace, stress can be the result of any number of situations. Some examples include:
Categories of Job Stressors Examples
Factors unique to the job workload (overload and underload)
pace / variety / meaningfulness of work
autonomy (e.g., the ability to make your own decisions about our own job or about specific tasks)
shiftwork / hours of work

Both monuments are structurally sound as both monument holds valuable meanings. The massive size

important to be stable as under the dome lies a center stone of the monument. Also, the octagonal wall

A Report On The Coryell System
The Coryell system is designed to get the opposing corners and safeties stretched vertically by sending
receivers (primarily the X and Z WRs) on deep concepts. That generates open targets underneath for
the quarterback to connect with when the linebackers are back peddling due to the defensive backs
needing to account for the deep ball. Out of the 45 times Dak Prescott chucked the football against the
Giants in the Cowboys season opening loss, 26 of his attempts were thrown to WR Cole Beasley
(targeted 12 times) and TE Jason Witten (targeted 14 times). The two predominant security blankets of
the system combined for 17 catches and 131 yards receiving as Prescott completed most of his passes
to the chain movers of the aerial attack. Elite quarterbacks are aggressive passers with precision
accuracy and arm strength to deliver the football in tight windows. The inability to get the ball
downfield (a huge issue last season) for large gains injected the Cowboys offense with a lethal dose of
(crippling the vertical game poison). Although Prescott isn t gun shy and has more life in his arm than
last year s abysmal backups the inexperienced passer chiefly took what the Giants defense was giving
him (high percentage shallow and intermediate looks) and avoided threading the needle thanks to the
principles of HC Jason Garrett s Coryell philosophy of having his playmaking X WR Dez Bryant and

According to the Economist, Since 2001, hourly manufacturing wages in China have risen by an
average of 12 percent a year ( China, rising wages and worker militancy ). This is defying the sole
purpose of the companies to go there and manufacture products cheaply. China s labour cost
advantage over United Sates has dropped from 55 per cent in 2013 to 39 per cent in 2015 ( Bringing
the Jobs Back Home: How Re shoring Is Coming to America ). The labour accounts for just a small
portion of the whole manufacturing process costs, so, the overall profit gained from outsourcing will
drop tremendously. According to KPMG report, Rising energy and transportation costs, along with
added pressure on lead times and increased inflation in China have made Canada and U.S. more
competitive as sourcing nations ( Offshoring Finally Going Out Of Fashion, Survey Finds ). There is
more than just labour saving behind re shoring trend. Companies are starting to recognize the value of
physical proximity. Many companies currently use virtual workplace to contact with their employees
overseas to insure that everything is functioning properly. There is an emerging consensus that the
virtual workplace has its limits and it offshoring has gone too far that it is hard to collaborate within
the company itself ( Bringing the Jobs Back Home: How Re shoring Is Coming to America ). So,
companies are planning to reduce the distance so that work can be done more effectively and under
proper surveillance. There is another trend that is supporting re shoring in Canada. The KPMG report
cites that

Video Game Piracy is the Biggest Issue Facing the Video...
Video Game piracy is one of the biggest issues facing the video game industry, specifically PC
gaming. It occurs every day, and is dramatically affecting the revenues earned by video game
developers. Piracy can occur in a number of ways. The first possible method of video game piracy is
burning content onto a disc. Someone can copy the contents of a game disc into a file on their
computer and then burn those contents onto a blank disc. This disc can then be given or sold to
someone as the full version of a game. Another technique that pirates use is called torrenting. This
involves finding the code file for a video game and then transferring it into a playable version of the
game. After this is done, the pirate can play the game for free and can even post this new playable file
on the internet as a free download that anyone can access. Piracy is one of the biggest problems that
video game developers have faced over the years.
Many consumers like the idea of pirated games because it means that they can play games without
paying for them. One of the arguments against video game developing companies is that games cost
too much, so it is the developers faults that piracy exists. The only reason that video games are
expensive is because they cost so much money to create. Many games these days cost in the hundreds
of millions of dollars to develop, so the only way the company can make a profit is if they put the $60
price tag on their games.
A second argument

Freedom And African American History Essay
Freedom And African American History 1 XIN LI The United States is a immigrant country, which
faces varieties of problems. The African American problem is one of the most serious one. Racial
segregation is a deep rooted social problem, which reflects in every field in the United States. For
example, education, labor market and criminal justice system. In the aspect of education, most of
black children were not permitted to enter the school, because the white children studied there. In the
aspect of labor market, the black people s average wages were lower than the whites. They did the
manual work. In the aspect of criminal justice system, the blacks were easily in jail. Badly, their
sentences were also more serious than the whites. In general, the blacks live in the bottom of the
American society. Martin Luther King delivered the famous speech I Have a Dream, I have a dream
that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of
their skin but by the content of their character. (1) However, it was difficult for African American to
get the freedom. The 1776 Declaration of Independence announced that everyone are equal and
freedom. But black slavery still occurred in the southern states of America. Then the Civil War broke
out, African American kept struggling for land and political rights.

History Of Geographic Information Systems ( Gis )
The History of Geographic Information Systems Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are a way
that information can embedded into and retrieved from maps, today this is done using computers,
because of the complexity of the information that can be used, but was once done manually. GIS has
become common place in the modern world that we live in, they are useful for simple things such
basic maps to much more complex tasks including research and statistics, city planning, as well as
many more. One of the first uses of a GIS was in the fight against cholera, first Charles Picquet
produced a map of 48 districts in Paris that displayed the number of deaths from cholera per 1000
inhabitants using a colour gradient (Bagais, 2012). Then in 1854 John Snow, an English doctor,
created a GIS map of a cholera outbreak in Soho, London. His map used points to show where each
case of cholera had occurred, through the use of this technique he was able to determine that the cause
of the cholera outbreak was a water pump located on Broad Street, of which he removed the handle
and ended the epidemic (Johnson, 2006). The development of GIS was very slow in these early years,
and it was not until the early 20th century that any real advancement in GIS was seen, this was
because of the increasing development of photozincography (Cook, 2002). Photozincography allowed
the development of layers, these are a key component of any GIS, and each layer was drawn by hand
onto individual glass plates.

Introduction to Masdar City
Masdar City, set out as an arcology project, a vision of architectural design principles and ecology,
that appears as science fiction due to it s main structure which minimizes individual human
environmental impact.
Built in Abu Dhabi, in the UAE, this project was funded by the government of Abu Dhabi and
designed by the British architectural firm Foster and Partners. The city will also host the headquarters
of the International Renewable Energy Agency, and is designed to be the center of clean technology
companies.
Masdar city is structured uniquely, and designed to be friendly to pedestrians and cyclists. Although it
looks like a cube from a distance, its closely aligned patterned design buildings allow for airflow in
the city which cools in down by 15 to 20 degree Celsius. The city itself relies on solar energy and
other renewable resources.
The initial design of the city banned automobiles, and their solutions for mobility include a public
mass transit and a personal rapid transit system, with existing road and railways leading to the city s
perimeter.
The majority of private vehicles will be restricted to parking along the city s

It has been rocked by one of the most detrimental hurricanes the United States has seen in awhile

the fans they gain from various college football games. They have to plan and organize 41 bowl games

The New Face And The Beer Industry

Microbreweries are small business that produces a limited amount of specialty beers for local sales.
Microbreweries are popping up all across the country, with new craft beers taking over taps. Michigan
alone has over a hundred different breweries. The economic system is on a rise, because of the new
style of beer coming to supermarkets and party stores. There are also new jobs being created by the

There are many different styles that can be created by what ingredients are used, the amount of hops,
and the fermentation rate. Microbrews have become an upgraded business that started a few centuries
ago in Michigan. Beer creation has been around since the early centuries. The first law that was
created about beer was the Purity Law . It was created in 1516 in Bavaria. This law states that beer can
only be made with barley, hops, and water. Later the law was revised and introduced wheat and yeast.
(Craft Beer Timeline) Michigan played a major part and started creating brews in 1829. It was sought
out by a French man named Alexis de Tocqueville. The first type of beer brewed in Michigan was a
dark robust ale. But by the 1840s there were German influences that made Michiganders create
German style lagers. Through the 1840s to the early 1880s the most common brewery was the mom
and pops operations serving just a small clientele (200 years). At this time, the business was only on
draft that was usually created by pub owners in the back of the saloons. Soon after this bottled beer
was introduced and larger companies began using multilevel breweries to handle the demand of the
consumers. In the article, 200 Years of Michigan Beer, Prohibition hit hard for Michigan. The state
started a ban on alcohol sales and consumption three years before the nationwide ban. Larger
companies tuned to different means to keep up the businesses.

Cause And Effects Of Global Warming
Global warming is an increase of Earth s temperature throughout a period of time. Global warming is
a disease that is one of the root causes of Earth s illness. This invisible change has a lot of drastic
effects on mankind, wildlife as well as nature. The reasons to these destructions are humans
themselves. There are some very obvious ways to tackle the situation. Many of the extraordinary
weather changes since the 1950 s are recorded in the instrumental temperature record which stretches
out to the mid 19th Century while having thousands of years according to the Paleoclimate Proxy
Records [IPCC Climate]. Temperature across the whole world is predicted to change throughout this
century and continuing. The Earth s ability to tackle the emission of heat trapping gases, as well as the
amount of gases released will predict the magnitude of global climate change [NASA].
Scientists are sure that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, largely due to
greenhouse gases produced by human activities. 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit of temperature rise is
predicted over the next century by a group of 1300 scientists of The Intergovernmental Panel of
Climate Change (IPCC) from the United States[IPCC]. Climate change will have different effects on
different regions depending on the adapting ability with time, of that region, said IPCC. A 1 to 3
degree Celsius increase in global temperature will have deadly consequences in some region and

The Martha Stewart insider trading case was a high profile case filled with uncertainty. In order to say
whether or not Stewart handled her indictment responsibly, it is necessary to start with an assumption
regarding her guilt or innocence. For the purposes of this paper, based on the information I have read
about the case, and based on the fact that she was found guilty of all counts (although not all
specifications) in her stock conspiracy trial (with the exception of the security fraud charge which was

Also, in later questioning the witness admitted that it was impossible to determine how many different
blue pens were used on the worksheet. At any rate, the prearranged price as set by Stewart might have
seemed a little too convenient to some. The question here continues to deal with duty and the greater
good. If Stewart and Bacanovic did not have this prior arrangement set up, then it was Bacanovic s
duty to Merrill Lynch and to the investors to uphold the responsibilities of his position. Again, this
situation deals with the greater good of the investors as a whole, not just Martha Stewart as an
individual, and therein lies the purpose behind the rules in place. Aside from lying about her decisions,
Stewart also attempted to hamper the investigation by providing false information. Stewart attempted
to alter the contents of the phone message from Bacanovic s 27 December 2001 phone call. This is a
fact that was verified by Stewart s assistant. Altering evidence is generally reserved for the purpose of

Comparing Asterism And Taurus Negotiation
a) An asterism is a constellation that is not regarded as an official constellation by the international
scientific community. An example of an asterism, is the Big Dipper that is located within the Ursa
Major constellation. One reason why asterisms are used today, is because due to light pollution we are
unable to view the sky as it was seen by the Ancient Greeks. This can make it difficult to view the
entire constellation with the naked eye, and we may instead only view the brightest stars, as well as
the shapes they may form, like the Big Dipper. An asterism is similar to a constellation because a
constellation is a group of stars that outline a recognizable pattern. However, differences between an

Theme Of Imperialism In Jane Eyre
Scottish author, Christopher North (also known as John Wilson) once said, His Majesty s dominions,
on which the sun never sets in reference to the large span of territory occupied by the British Empire.
At the height of its power, Great Britain held territory on all of the seven continents and ruled over
about one fourth of the world s population. A map of the British Empire in the 19th century published
by the History of England shows that Great Britain occupied areas such as Canada, Australia, Egypt,
South Africa, modern day India, Honduras, and many other lands. The primary purpose of British

The powerful male roles, such as Edward Rochester, seen throughout the novel represent Great
Britain, while the weaker female roles, such as Bertha Mason, represent the imperialized countries. In
chapter 14 of Jane Eyre, Mr. Rochester demonstrates his assertive dominance to Jane when he asks,
Do you agree with me that I have a right to be a little masterful, abrupt, perhaps exacting, sometimes,
on the grounds I stated, namely, that I am old enough to be your father, and that I have battled through
a varied experience with many men of many nations, and roamed over half the globe (Brontë 152).
Rochester demonstrates the power of Great Britain here by claiming that he has the given right to take
control and be the ruling figure just like Great Britain did to weaker countries. Bertha Mason parallels
the countries being colonized because she is depicted as weak and someone who needs to be isolated
and controlled. In Reader, I Buried Him : Apocalypse and Empire in Jane Eyre. , Tracy agrees that
many critics rightly place Bertha at the centre of the novel s signifying systems, since social, cultural,
imperial, and religious concerns are encoded in her relationship with Rochester . This becomes evident
in chapter 26 of Jane Eyre when Rochester is explaining Bertha s character to Jane. Rochester states
that Bertha Mason is mad; she came of a mad family; idiots and maniacs through three

The European Union s Democratic Deficit
The European Union has greatly evolved over the decades since it has begun into a well evolved quasi
state of over 28 countries, and over five hundred million citizens. The European Union has been
regarded as a method to bring democratic stability and economic prosperity to less developed
democracies in East and Central Europe. While the European Union has a mandate to bring all of
these standards, the European Union lacks these basic standards for their overall institution. This
structural problem has given the European Union its own democratic deficit . The rise of the
democratic deficit has arisen from many undemocratic characteristics of EU institutions, and a lack of
a demos or a lack of a single socio cultural European identity. In order for a political body to remain
legitimate, it must have the trust and support of the citizens it governs, and makes changes for the
continuation of its future. In other words, if the European Union does not take action to combat its
democratic deficit, the future of the European Unions institution will be at risk. Another serious issue
is the European Union has seen democratic backsliding of many Eastern European countries. This

What Influenced The American Revolution
Throughout the years of 1750 1914, an age of revolutions broke out, causing a global change in
politics. The Enlightenment Ideals influenced this worldwide change, from the social contract,
separation of power, and natural rights. The social contract influenced the revolutions when all
middle/lower class people wanted equality in their country. Natural rights take place in the worldwide
revolutions because everyone wants to live with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Some
documents that influence these revolutions are the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution,
and The Saint Domingue Constitution of 1801. Natural rights influenced the French and Latin
American Revolutions because the citizens of these areas were yearning for change and needed a
government that would influence equality, and create a constitution to drop the hierarchy of citizens,
and fabricate a civil, utopian society that the citizens actually would appreciate a lifestyle that
acknowledges political and social freedom. As John Locke states, The end of law is not to abolish or

Existentialism in Art
Existentialism is highly regarded when it comes to artists and artwork. Sartre is a well known
prominent advocate in the post war period. Sartre wrote essays about artists work which helped
viewers translate philosophy into visual art and by doing this viewers are able to understand the
reasons behind the artwork and along with the understanding comes a deeper appreciation for the art.
If man is unexplainable it is because we make ourselves so if he is indefinable it is because at first he
is nothing (Sartre) he must create who he will be.( www.theartstory.org) Sartre spoke these words to
the artwork of the post war period. Jean Dubuffet and Wols art work is able to address the coexistence
of mind and body on which humans need. Ponty believes that art does not have to be perfect and
symmetrical its science does not have to be exact as long as it captures the eye of the observers than it
has done its job correctly. Existentialism in art is for the artist to be completely free with every stroke
of the hand. The art of the artist is dependent on the time and place in which the artist is born.
Following the first and second World Wars, the decades of fighting and relentless political turmoil it
comes as no surprise that a philosophy that invokes man, the individual s existence at its core had such
an extensive following. This is why existentialist art flourishes after times of war because people want
to express their feeling of freedom and the importance of the individual.

Aspects Of A Negro Life Essay
Aspects Of A Negro Life
Through his political activism and his artwork, Douglas dramatically changed the way other artists
viewed African Americans. Politically, he helped found and served as president for the activist
organization that drastically assisted with employing thousands of artists.
he 1920s and 1930s brought drastic changes to the lives of many African Americans. Geographically,
they migrated toward the urban, industrialized North, not only to escape racial prejudices and
economic hardships, but also to attain higher social and economic status. This Great Migration
transformed the streets of Harlem, New York, and gave rise to cultural changes of the New Negro
movement. As this movement gradually gained popularity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Through his political activism and artwork, Douglas was able to reveal the ideas and values
exemplified during the Harlem Renaissance, despite significant criticism of his style.
With this rebirth of traditional African culture, the number of African American artists rapidly
increased. It became difficult for these artists to gain employment, even with the assistance of
government work relief programs, such as the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Set up by
President Roosevelt as part of his New Deal program, the WPA offered jobs to thousands of
unemployed artists, in an attempt to boost the nation s morale, as well as stimulate the depressed
economy. Despite its good intentions, the government program was unable to pay decent wages and
failed to provide employment for nearly five million artists (American). In response to this failure, the
Harlem Artist Guild, founded in 1928, aggressively began to work alongside the WPA to ensure the
success of African American artists. Led by its first president, Aaron Douglas, the activist organization
played an influential role in helping artists attain the recognition necessary to qualify them for the
WPA work projects (Bearden 131). With the assistance of Douglas, the Harlem Artist Guild, and the
WPA, millions of African American artists succeeded in gaining employment despite the hard times of
the 1930s (Artnoir s).
In his own works, Aaron Douglas used a strong,

Spanish American Independence
It was known by the Spanish American War of name conflict occurred between Spain and the United
States in 1898, culminating with the taking of Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Philippines to Spanish rule.
With the exception of the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, both fought against their former
colonial power, Britain, this was the first war of the US against a European nation.
The conflict, which lasted approximately eight months was also the first major military victory of the
United States of a foreign power. Such a war signaled once the Spanish decline as a world power and
catapulted the United States to the forefront of the global political disputes.
Spain had almost lost all its colonies in the first half of the nineteenth century and there were only a

With command of the sea, the Americans were able to project power ashore and beat the enemy
troops. As a prize for victory, the Americans take control of Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Philippines.
The Spanish colonial empire was reduced to scattered territories in Africa still poorly understood and
exploited.
Cuba has its independence as early as 1902, but remain closely linked to politics and US interests,
which made the island a colony in practice, a situation that continued for several decades. The
Philippines would be longer under US administration, having recognized its independence only in
1946, but as Cuba, would be for decades linked economically to its metropolis. Puerto Rico today
form a state associated with the United States and its citizens has guaranteed US citizenship. There,
the movement for independence is still seeking more support among the population, although it has

The Byzantines had walls that were called the Theodorin walls because Theodora was a brave and fearless leader in her time. She fought against plague and rebellions, but she held strong throughout the Dark Ages. The Byzantines assembled a wall in her honor and to protect their culture and civilization. Hollywood vs History Essay History vs. Hollywood The Patriot The Revolutionary war, sparked by the colonist s anger towards taxation without representation, was a conflict between the United States and its mother country Great Britain. This event had been considered the most significant event in the American history. It separated the thirteen colonies from the tyrannical ruling of King George. The revolutionary war was not a big war, The military conflict was, by the standards of later wars, a relatively modest one. Battle deaths on the American side totaled fewer than 5,000 1. Much additional and fictional information were added to the movie, just to make the movie more exciting and do well in the box office. Two kids and one man with couple rifles killing a dozen British soldiers seems a little too over the top, but it does add a little excitement. The use of flag waving was just too magical in the movie. Every time something goes wrong for the Continental army, Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibbson) waves the flag and all the soldiers are pumped and ready for war. The Hollywood version of British commanders is very different from the real commanders. That meant turning over their Jews and doing exactly as Hitler demanded. Some people showed moral courage in the face of the Nazis instead, but rarely was there a whole country that tried to save themselves before falling under German demand. However, there was one country that didn t comply despite its disadvantage to Germany: Denmark resisted Nazi rule which shows a great example of a whole country working together to save their people. When Denmark was invaded during World War II, they decided to try and resist their rule instead of comply with all of their demands. One of these was trying to take all of the Jews. Diseases and sickness comes to play now and then, but, for the most part, affect the poor and undeveloped countries most heavy; developed countries like the U.S.A. have solutions and vaccine for diseases and thus fear of sickness do not arise often. However, when they do, it is can become a pandemic, a massive widespread of hazardous disease that potentially threatens the human population. To prevent epidemics, countries formed the World Health Organization (WHO) to create the Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) to help announce an event of an extreme health hazard that spread (or is spreading) internationally and need international coalition to cure or resolve. There are multiple phrases to pandemic before the PHEIC happens. To explore the phases of a pandemic and when a PHEIC occur, I carried out simulation through a game called Pandemic II to evaluate the phases and the reaction of the world and WHO. Before talking about the simulation, there needs to be an understanding of the phases of a pandemic: Interpandemic phase, Alert phases, Pandemic phase, Transition phase. Each phase carries a special role in how the world react to solve a pandemic. The Interpandemic phase is more of a cautionary phase; nothing is happening during this phase and life goes on normally. She states If a person, Chicana or Latina, has a low estimation of my native tongue, she also has a low estimation of me. This is not how things should work. Stereotypes control too much of our perceptions of different people. Knowing that people rely on stereotypes to judge unfamiliar people, I do not believe that it is wrong to change our language to fit into another situation. If we change our methods of speech, then we are more likely to be heard and have our ideas appreciated. We see Lady Macbeth struggling with her position after becoming Queen. She is stressed about keeping the throne secure and is not as happy as she thought she might be. It takes a while but eventually she cracks and has somewhat of a mental breakdown. Asaji on the other hand keeps her composure throughout most of the film. She is obviously concerned about succeeding in her endeavors but she was able to keep her focus unlike Lady Macbeth. It is only very suddenly that she suffers the same fate as Lady Macbeth. Both women are found washing nonexistent blood from their hands while sleepwalking. One other crucial difference between the two women is their role as women within their respective societies. Lady Macbeth does not wish to be treated like a woman at all. At one point in the play she even says, Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe topful of direst cruelty! Because Cole suffered from the near death experience in his first banishment, anger was not full of his mind. During the second time of his banishment, Cole has been modified. How Roadways and Public transit have impacted the city The top issue in Toronto was the poor performance of public transit such as buses, streetcars, and subway trains. The TTC system is of very bad performance that even many transit systems in third world countries provide users with better experiences than trasit users have in Toronto. The current major problems with TTC are: crowding during rush periods and insufficient ridership to justify reasonable service levels at other times. • 12. Suspense In The Most Dangerous Game By Richard Connell Suspense is that feeling of stress or anxiety because you are uncertain of what the story will bring next. When all of the events in a story are falling into place and are climbing to its highest potential. Some stories have more of a suspense than others depending on what methods the author uses to display suspense. The first method of creating suspense in a story is the pace. Whether the pace of a story is slow or fast, it can help with the buildup of suspense. In some ways it is like a roller coaster ride. You may have a sigh of relief for that character in a certain situation, only to find out at the very next moment that they have come upon an even worse one, just like the up and down motions of a roller coaster ride. In the short story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell the story has many twist and turns that you would not expect. The passage below best fits pace. Within Macbeth, Shakespeare describes life as a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury. And if life is a tale told by an idiot, there is justification as to of why Faulkner begins the book through the eyes of Benjy, a thirty three year old retard. And in the end, Quentin commits suicide by drowning himself in the river. The next major character of this novel is Jason Compson. Imprecision Similar to the imprecision assessment of treatment effect evidence, the imprecision assessment for relative importance of outcomes scrutinise the confidence interval and the sample size. What is challenging is because diversified study designs, result presentations or methodologies are used, usually there is no confidence interval constructed, or there is not a simple way to calculate the minimum sample size with sufficient power to produce a narrow estimate for the relative importance outcomes.[53] 3.4.1. Confidence interval 3.4.1.1. Is the confidence interval narrow (for systematic reviews)? (Answer options: Yes; probably yes; probably no; No) The answers of yes or probably yes suggest a precise estimate, while no or probably no suggest imprecision estimate. Rationale: To consider imprecision, systematic review authors need to decide whether confidence interval around the estimate is sufficient narrow. Unfortunately, we do not have an empirical narrow confidence interval for relative importance of outcomes evidence. Due to diversity in study designs, methodology and presentation of results, there could be situations without confidence intervals, for example, the result reported could be the proportion of willing to accept the prophylaxis treatment if the risk of adverse events decreased by 5%. 3.4.1.2. That generates open targets underneath for the quarterback to connect with when the linebackers are back peddling due to the defensive backs needing to account for the deep ball. Out of the 45 times Dak Prescott chucked the football against the Giants in the Cowboys season opening loss, 26 of his attempts were thrown to WR Cole Beasley (targeted 12 times) and TE Jason Witten (targeted 14 times). The two predominant security blankets of the system combined for 17 catches and 131 yards receiving as Prescott completed most of his passes to the chain movers of the aerial attack. Elite quarterbacks are aggressive passers with precision accuracy and arm strength to deliver the football in tight windows. The inability to get the ball downfield (a huge issue last season) for large gains injected the Cowboys offense with a lethal dose of (crippling the vertical game poison). It is important to investigate the reasons behind this drastic shift in the plans of companies. The first and a major reason for this change is an increasing cost of operations overseas. Factory wages in China, which started at a much lower rate that other countries, have tripled in the last decade. According to the Economist, Since 2001, hourly manufacturing wages in China have risen by an average of 12 percent a year ( China, rising wages and worker militancy ). This is defying the sole purpose of the companies to go there and manufacture products cheaply. China s labour cost advantage over United Sates has dropped from 55 per cent in 2013 to 39 per cent in 2015 ( Bringing the Jobs Back Home: How Re shoring Is Coming to America ). The labour accounts for just a small portion of the whole manufacturing process costs, so, the overall profit gained from outsourcing will drop tremendously. According to KPMG report, Rising energy and transportation costs, along with added pressure on lead times and increased inflation in China have made Canada and U.S. more competitive as sourcing nations ( Offshoring Finally Going Out Of Fashion, Survey Finds ). There is more than just labour saving behind re shoring trend. Companies are starting to recognize the value of physical proximity. Many companies currently use virtual workplace to contact with their employees overseas to insure that everything is functioning properly. There is an emerging consensus that the virtual workplace has its limits and it offshoring has gone too far that it is hard to collaborate within the company itself ( Bringing the Jobs Back Home: How Re shoring Is Coming to America ). • 21. Video Game Piracy is the Biggest Issue Facing the Video... Video Game piracy is one of the biggest issues facing the video game industry, specifically PC gaming. It occurs every day, and is dramatically affecting the revenues earned by video game developers. Piracy can occur in a number of ways. The first possible method of video game piracy is burning content onto a disc. Someone can copy the contents of a game disc into a file on their computer and then burn those contents onto a blank disc. This disc can then be given or sold to someone as the full version of a game. Another technique that pirates use is called torrenting. This involves finding the code file for a video game and then transferring it into a playable version of the game. After this is done, the pirate can play the game for free and can even post this new playable file on the internet as a free download that anyone can access. Piracy is one of the biggest problems that video game developers have faced over the years. Many consumers like the idea of pirated games because it means that they can play games without paying for them. One of the arguments against video game developing companies is that games cost too much, so it is the developers faults that piracy exists. The only reason that video games are expensive is because they cost so much money to create. Many games these days cost in the hundreds of millions of dollars to develop, so the only way the company can make a profit is if they put the $60 price tag on their games. A second argument ... • 23. History Of Geographic Information Systems ( Gis ) The History of Geographic Information Systems Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are a way that information can embedded into and retrieved from maps, today this is done using computers, because of the complexity of the information that can be used, but was once done manually. GIS has become common place in the modern world that we live in, they are useful for simple things such basic maps to much more complex tasks including research and statistics, city planning, as well as many more. One of the first uses of a GIS was in the fight against cholera, first Charles Picquet produced a map of 48 districts in Paris that displayed the number of deaths from cholera per 1000 inhabitants using a colour gradient (Bagais, 2012). Then in 1854 John Snow, an English doctor, created a GIS map of a cholera outbreak in Soho, London. His map used points to show where each case of cholera had occurred, through the use of this technique he was able to determine that the cause of the cholera outbreak was a water pump located on Broad Street, of which he removed the handle and ended the epidemic (Johnson, 2006). The development of GIS was very slow in these early years, and it was not until the early 20th century that any real advancement in GIS was seen, this was because of the increasing development of photozincography (Cook, 2002). Photozincography allowed the development of layers, these are a key component of any GIS, and each layer was drawn by hand onto individual glass plates. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Global warming is a disease that is one of the root causes of Earth s illness. This invisible change has a lot of drastic effects on mankind, wildlife as well as nature. The reasons to these destructions are humans themselves. There are some very obvious ways to tackle the situation. Many of the extraordinary weather changes since the 1950 s are recorded in the instrumental temperature record which stretches out to the mid 19th Century while having thousands of years according to the Paleoclimate Proxy Records [IPCC Climate]. Temperature across the whole world is predicted to change throughout this century and continuing. The Earth s ability to tackle the emission of heat trapping gases, as well as the amount of gases released will predict the magnitude of global climate change [NASA]. Scientists are sure that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, largely due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities. 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit of temperature rise is predicted over the next century by a group of 1300 scientists of The Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC) from the United States[IPCC]. Climate change will have different effects on different regions depending on the adapting ability with time, of that region, said IPCC. • 34. Martha Stewart Insider Trading Case ETH 501 Module 1 Case Assignment The Martha Stewart insider trading case was a high profile case filled with uncertainty. In order to say whether or not Stewart handled her indictment responsibly, it is necessary to start with an assumption regarding her guilt or innocence. For the purposes of this paper, based on the information I have read about the case, and based on the fact that she was found guilty of all counts (although not all specifications) in her stock conspiracy trial (with the exception of the security fraud charge which was thrown out), I will assume that she is guilty. (courttv.com) Based on that assumption, there are several reasons that Martha Stewart did not handle her indictment responsibly which can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The prosecution attempted to prove that the ink used to make that annotation was not the same at the ink used on other parts of the paper. The prosecution s witness in this portion of the case was a Secret Service agent who was later charged with perjury for repeatedly lying on the stand (courttv.com). Also, in later questioning the witness admitted that it was impossible to determine how many different blue pens were used on the worksheet. At any rate, the prearranged price as set by Stewart might have seemed a little too convenient to some. The question here continues to deal with duty and the greater good. If Stewart and Bacanovic did not have this prior arrangement set up, then it was Bacanovic s duty to Merrill Lynch and to the investors to uphold the responsibilities of his position. Again, this situation deals with the greater good of the investors as a whole, not just Martha Stewart as an individual, and therein lies the purpose behind the rules in place. Aside from lying about her decisions, Stewart also attempted to hamper the investigation by providing false information. Stewart attempted to alter the contents of the phone message from Bacanovic s 27 December 2001 phone call. This is a fact that was verified by Stewart s assistant. Altering evidence is generally reserved for the purpose of making a situation look better than it is. The fact that Stewart attempted to change ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Comparing Asterism And Taurus Negotiation a) An asterism is a constellation that is not regarded as an official constellation by the international scientific community. An example of an asterism, is the Big Dipper that is located within the Ursa Major constellation. One reason why asterisms are used today, is because due to light pollution we are unable to view the sky as it was seen by the Ancient Greeks. This can make it difficult to view the entire constellation with the naked eye, and we may instead only view the brightest stars, as well as the shapes they may form, like the Big Dipper. An asterism is similar to a constellation because a constellation is a group of stars that outline a recognizable pattern. However, differences between an asterism and a constellation can also be ... This star is also known as Beta Tauri (β Tauri), and is one of the major stars in the Taurus constellation. This star is the second brightest star in the Taurus constellation following Aldebaran. • 36. Theme Of Imperialism In Jane Eyre Scottish author, Christopher North (also known as John Wilson) once said, His Majesty s dominions, on which the sun never sets in reference to the large span of territory occupied by the British Empire. At the height of its power, Great Britain held territory on all of the seven continents and ruled over about one fourth of the world s population. A map of the British Empire in the 19th century published by the History of England shows that Great Britain occupied areas such as Canada, Australia, Egypt, South Africa, modern day India, Honduras, and many other lands. The primary purpose of British imperialism was to acquire as much foreign territory as possible in order to gain abundant amounts of raw materials and to create a market for British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The powerful male roles, such as Edward Rochester, seen throughout the novel represent Great Britain, while the weaker female roles, such as Bertha Mason, represent the imperialized countries. In chapter 14 of Jane Eyre, Mr. Rochester demonstrates his assertive dominance to Jane when he asks, Do you agree with me that I have a right to be a little masterful, abrupt, perhaps exacting, sometimes, on the grounds I stated, namely, that I am old enough to be your father, and that I have battled through a varied experience with many men of many nations, and roamed over half the globe (Brontë 152). Rochester demonstrates the power of Great Britain here by claiming that he has the given right to take control and be the ruling figure just like Great Britain did to weaker countries. Bertha Mason parallels the countries being colonized because she is depicted as weak and someone who needs to be isolated and controlled. In Reader, I Buried Him : Apocalypse and Empire in Jane Eyre. , Tracy agrees that many critics rightly place Bertha at the centre of the novel s signifying systems, since social, cultural, imperial, and religious concerns are encoded in her relationship with Rochester . This becomes evident in chapter 26 of Jane Eyre when Rochester is explaining Bertha s character to Jane. Rochester states that Bertha Mason is mad; she came of a mad family; idiots and maniacs through three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The European Union s Democratic Deficit The European Union has greatly evolved over the decades since it has begun into a well evolved quasi state of over 28 countries, and over five hundred million citizens. The European Union has been regarded as a method to bring democratic stability and economic prosperity to less developed democracies in East and Central Europe. While the European Union has a mandate to bring all of these standards, the European Union lacks these basic standards for their overall institution. This structural problem has given the European Union its own democratic deficit . The rise of the democratic deficit has arisen from many undemocratic characteristics of EU institutions, and a lack of a demos or a lack of a single socio cultural European identity. In order for a political body to remain legitimate, it must have the trust and support of the citizens it governs, and makes changes for the continuation of its future. In other words, if the European Union does not take action to combat its democratic deficit, the future of the European Unions institution will be at risk. Another serious issue is the European Union has seen democratic backsliding of many Eastern European countries. This paper will discuss the major issues that the Democratic Deficit has caused for the European Union, and what possible reforms can be done to help fix the democratic deficit. The Enlightenment Ideals influenced this worldwide change, from the social contract, separation of power, and natural rights. The social contract influenced the revolutions when all middle/lower class people wanted equality in their country. Natural rights take place in the worldwide revolutions because everyone wants to live with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Some documents that influence these revolutions are the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, and The Saint Domingue Constitution of 1801. Natural rights influenced the French and Latin American Revolutions because the citizens of these areas were yearning for change and needed a government that would influence equality, and create a constitution to drop the hierarchy of citizens, and fabricate a civil, utopian society that the citizens actually would appreciate a lifestyle that acknowledges political and social freedom. Sartre wrote essays about artists work which helped viewers translate philosophy into visual art and by doing this viewers are able to understand the reasons behind the artwork and along with the understanding comes a deeper appreciation for the art. If man is unexplainable it is because we make ourselves so if he is indefinable it is because at first he is nothing (Sartre) he must create who he will be.( www.theartstory.org) Sartre spoke these words to the artwork of the post war period. Jean Dubuffet and Wols art work is able to address the coexistence of mind and body on which humans need. Ponty believes that art does not have to be perfect and symmetrical its science does not have to be exact as long as it captures the eye of the observers than it has done its job correctly. Existentialism in art is for the artist to be completely free with every stroke of the hand. The art of the artist is dependent on the time and place in which the artist is born. Following the first and second World Wars, the decades of fighting and relentless political turmoil it comes as no surprise that a philosophy that invokes man, the individual s existence at its core had such an extensive following. This is why existentialist art flourishes after times of war because people want to express their feeling of freedom and the importance of the individual. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With this rebirth of traditional African culture, the number of African American artists rapidly increased. It became difficult for these artists to gain employment, even with the assistance of government work relief programs, such as the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Set up by President Roosevelt as part of his New Deal program, the WPA offered jobs to thousands of unemployed artists, in an attempt to boost the nation s morale, as well as stimulate the depressed economy. Despite its good intentions, the government program was unable to pay decent wages and failed to provide employment for nearly five million artists (American). In response to this failure, the Harlem Artist Guild, founded in 1928, aggressively began to work alongside the WPA to ensure the success of African American artists. Led by its first president, Aaron Douglas, the activist organization played an influential role in helping artists attain the recognition necessary to qualify them for the WPA work projects (Bearden 131).
