2. Separation Between the Narration in Response to...
In reading Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly, a motif of distance and separateness can be discerned from
the text. In the structure of the narrative, the reader is distant from the action. The setting of the
narrative is situated often in isolated and nearly inaccessible areas, creating separateness between the
action of the story and the everyday world. The Frankenstein monster is remote compared to the rest
of world by narrative structure, geographic area, and his namelessness. The reader must look through
several lenses throughout the novel. The letters that begin the book are addressed to Mrs. Saville from
Robert Walton. So already in the beginning, the reader is asked to participate in voyeurism, looking in
on a world through letters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The light of the story is passing through the lenses of Robert Walton, Victor Frankenstein, and finally
the antagonist of the story: the nameless Frankenstein monster. Shelly gradually drops these lenses
once again until we are back to Walton s letters to Mrs. Saville. The three main lenses of this narration
are also separate in space from the rest of humanity for the majority of this novel. Walton first sees the
Frankenstein monster and then Victor on his voyage north into the ice. It is only these two creatures,
and the adventurers of Walton s crew that would travel this far away from the comfort and
companionship of humanity. The first spoken encounter between Frankenstein and his monster occurs
on the icy glacier in the Swiss Alps near the source of the Arveiron. After Victor s ascent into the
mountains he is confronted by the monster and is led to an even higher peak to the hut of the monster
where the he begins his tale. The monster exists outside the sphere of humanity, right on the fringe. He
spends his formative months in the woods or inside his hiding place outside the cottage of the exiled
French Nationals. The only people who ever hear the monster are Victor, the blind father of the
cottage, and William right before he dies. The rest of humanity, even if the monster tries to speak, is
unable to hear him. The monster is so far from what is right and normal that the capacity for
understanding is not within the grasp of normal human experience. The

3. Religious Tolerance In The American Colonies
Religious Tolerance
In the year 1776, the American Colonies drafted the Declaration of Independence. This document
symbolized freedom from Great Britain. According to Essentials of American Government Roots and
Reform, Englishmen and other Europeans left home seeking to enhance their fortunes. With them
came a host of laborers who hoped to find their own opportunities for riches [in the American
colonies] (O Connor, Sabato, and Yanus 6). As the colonies grew in size and stability, an influx of
Englishmen came to America for a variety of incentives. Two of these incentives would include:
recognition for accomplished goals and religious freedom. The desire of religious freedom led to the
development of many colonies, faiths, and laws. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This argument is based on information found on oyez.org. In 1963 a federal program, Higher
Education Facilities, created grants for educational institutions. These institutions were sponsored by
local churches. The grant specifically said the new buildings could have no religious associations for
twenty years. After the twenty year period, the building could be used for any purpose the church
needed it to. The grant attempted to neutralize the moral background that may influence the college
students in the new building. In 1970 a law suit was filed. The sponsors believed if they were
sponsoring these educational institutions, they should be able to use the building for religious reasons.
In 1971 the court decided the twenty year wait for the building to be able to be used for any
recreational purpose was unconstitutional. The court argued grants are considered federal aid;
therefore, the federal government has no right to intervene with religious purpose. The first
amendment claims the federal government cannot deny anyone of practicing religion anywhere
including in a granted building. The court also said since the money was not used to fund religious
activity the building was like any other building. The court believed college students would be able to
decide with their own opinions on rather to attend these church services. The services were not
mandatory to attend. Also, the court decided the period

5. Career As A Neonatal Nurse
By: Herkisha Young
My Dream Career
Revised Rough Draft
A Neonatal Nurse is a career I have always wanted in this world. When I was younger, I have always
dreamed of being a nurse working with babies. I started watching this television show called Labor
and Delivery on TLC almost every week day. There would be a mother who was ready to deliver her
new born baby. I would observe this television show and think, when I grow up, I would like to be a
Neonatal Nurse. A Neonatal Nurse is one who specializes in infant care. As a Neonatal Nurse I would
be the nurse of confidence, compassion, and honesty. Because I possess these traits, A Neonatal Nurse
would be an ideal career for me.
Confidence is the first attribute of a Neonatal Nurse because of my determination and strong will.
When I am able to take orders from a leading physician and show belief in myself I am capable of
performing my duties under any circumstances. I will keep my patients information, history and
records private. For example, I have informed the mother that the information of her new born is
confidential, and will only be discussed and shown to the treating physician of her choice. My self
esteem grows when I have shown discipline and believe that I understand that there are individuals
around me who has more experience, which I can go to and ask for help. ... Show more content on

Caring for my patient is a key to having a successful business. As a Neonatal Nurse I will respect the
mother and her new born. I will show my staff how much I care by working as a team to
accomplishing our goals. When I encourage and motivate the mother who may face difficulties, I will
keep her baby comfortable while going through medication withdrawals. By creatively performing my
job to the best of my ability and completing tasks in a timely matter, will help tremendously. However,
as a Neonatal Nurse, I will show the mother and her new born concern towards their personal privacy

6. Women Are More Romanticly Attracted To Men
The belief that women are more romantically attracted to men caring for and acting in a nurturing and
comforting way to babies has become a rather popular opinion in today s society. The reason for this,
to many, is unknown, but the theme has made it into movies, books and even magazines. For example,
in the movie Marley and Me, Sebastian (the best friend) uses John s (the main character) child to
impress and grab the attention of a woman. Sebastian believes the child is an easy conversation starter
and the woman will think highly of him if she sees that he is responsible enough to take care of a
child. Another example can be found from the movie Big Daddy. In this movie the main character

thinking as opposed to display rules? Being able to track and understand what the man is thinking
behind what his face may be saying allows the woman to respond appropriately to the mans
expressions. Being able to do so allegedly helps women pick out men with good paternal qualities.
According to Rajalakshmi Sriram and Prachee G. Navalkar, good fathers are described as being sturdy
oaks . These ideal fathers with outstanding parental qualities consist of seven domains; commitment,
stewardship, caring and changing their own parenting to adapt to the children s changing needs,
providing challenges along with relaxation by helping to reduce stress, need for guidance, relating to
the child, and finally being a mentor to the child. (Sriram Navalkar, 2012). This specific article studied
characteristics of Indian fathers, but they relate very much to any culture. Tracking facial cues of
parental qualities is shown in several different studies including a specific one by James R. Roney
who believed that women track cues of parental and genetic

life with a house, car, well paying job, and a full family. In the book cancer causes a family to break
up long before the American Dream was ever achieved. For example, the author had to decline his
dream job due to poor health, he couldn t attend his graduation from medical residency, and he barely
had enough strength to hold his baby. The article also proves that the American Dream is
unachievable, because it gives more depth on how many people actually get cancer and die from it and

9. The Production of Video Games Taught At School
An electronic device in which a player would control the images on the screen is known as video
games (WorldBookStudent). Video games are the basis to why some students do not do well to school.
This is because these students would get the video game addiction in which the games would take
over the lives of a kid. Is this a psychological disorder like the others stated within the DSM IV? The
answer for this is no (CRCHealthGroup). This addiction however is not a mental disorder, but instead
many students may use video games as a stress reducer by releasing all their energy that they gain
during the day on the video games. These students would only feel that a videogame is more
interesting because it would have cool graphics and most games are multiplayer games which mean
that they can play with their friends (VideoGameAddiction). This cause would lead to the effect of
where students do badly in school because they would be too concentrated in the video games they
play that they will have less time to do any homework which will lead them to not understanding the
concept within what the lesson is about. From this adults can understand how students do not do well
when they take tests and final exams. What can people do about this situation in this case? Since some
students within school are addicted to video games, therefore the school system should provide a
career pathway on how to create and program video games because it will allow these gaming
students to participate

11. Similes In The Hanging, By George Orwell
The hanging is a short story written by George Orwell is in essence an anti capital punishment piece
written to persuade the reader that capital punishment s an unjust crime against humanity, and just as
bad as whatever crime the criminal has committed. George Orwell throughout the literary piece makes
use of similes, contrasts, and irony in order to persuade the reader of Orwell s viewpoint.
Furthermore, throughout the short story in its entirety we see the constant use of similes in an effort to
help the reader visualize the scene at hand. For instance, during the start of the story we see Orwell
equate the jail cell to, small animal cages ; Orwell does this to help illustrate to the reader the truly
abominable circumstances that befell the prisoners of the facility. If Orwell were to simply state that
the conditions were atrocious it d be easier to distance ourselves from the conditions at hand, by using
this simile he has in effect made it nearly impossible for the reader to distance themselves, as the
imagery cascades into his thoughts through the simile. Moreover, as they grab onto the prisoner and
forcibly hold onto him to prevent any potential escape attempt, Orwell likens the situation to, Men
handling a fish which is still alive and may jump back into the water. Orwell does this with the
intention of painting the image of a small slippery man being handled by men who can t get a grip
upon him due to the rain and his stature. Furthermore, when the prisoner is crying out Ram, Ram,
Ram! Orwell says it s akin to the, Tolling of the bell. which s basically to say it was the sound of
death, as funeral homes toll the bell during a funeral service; ultimately, orwell uses these similes as a
way to paint a picture of what s going on in the reader s head. It brings a darker undertone to the story
and helps reinforce what Orwell sees as the dark, sadistic nature of capital punishment.
Moreover, Orwell uses contrasting ideas to further indulge the reader plunging deeper into the abyss
of gloom that Orwell is attempting to get the reader to stare into. Orwell illustrates this rather soundly
when the dog is brought into the equation, It came bounding among us with a loud volley of barks,

12. Understand The Effect Of Solar Plasma On Earth s...
2nd P: To understand the effects of solar plasma on Earth s magnetosphere, one must look at the
creation of plasma in the early days of the sun. The sun s creation is similar to the process in the
explosion of a hydrogen bomb, only with the energy created equaling the force of 10 billion hydrogen
bombs per second. When the sun was originally forming, hydrogen gas in the middle was crushed
from weight above. Eventually, the pressures and temperatures reached such an intense point to where
the hydrogen atoms broke apart into electrons and photons, thus, creating plasma. Photons from the
explosion of electrons and protons are made so fast and so many at a time that it creates the observed
power of the sun. This reaches us as sunlight. Even though the process of the energy created is
relatively quick, the process in which the photons travel to Earth happens over a long time within the
Sun s layers. The energy of sunlight that shines down on us today is over 100,000 years 1 ... Show

The overall movement and rotation of the sun effect the magnetic fields in the sun. This movement
churns up plasma in the convection zone*, which in turn stirs up electrical currents, and finally creates
a magnetic field. Within these magnetic fields exists field lines, the main component of the solar
flares. Loops in the magnetic field lines rise with energy from the surface. On one end of the loop
exists a positive while the other end is negative. Plasma underneath stirs the poles and pumps
numerous amounts of energy into them. However, if the poles are twisted enough the loops cross
which creates a short circuit resulting in a tremendous outward explosion. The result is a solar flare.
Within these solar flares, nets of plasma are flung into space and can be described as coronal mass
ejections (solar storms). These CMEs flung into the solar system are what can wreak havoc on the

13. Ralph Waldo Emerson s Ideology Of Self Identity
In the essay, Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson s ideology of self identity is impractical today
because the media has hindered society from developing our true identities. The use of social media is
ruining this generation s real life social skills. According to Social Media Today, an online community
for professionals, The amount of time people spend on social media is constantly increasing. Teens
now spend up to nine hours a day on social platforms, while 30% of all time spent online is now
allocated to social media interaction. Texting or online communications does not allow people to truly
express themselves for who they truly are. There is a loss of social and personal development
communicating through social media. For instance, people online are unable to use body language,
tone, voice and facial expressions through a text. An article on The Telegraph, pointed out that One in
four people spend more time socialising online, using sites such as Facebook, than they do in person,
according to research. The study also found that even when there is an opportunity to see people face
to face, on weekends for example, up to 11% of adults still prefer to stay at home and communicate on
their devices instead. (USA Today). The problem with socialising online is that affects a person s
ability to communicate properly in face to face interactions. The person will feel a sense of social

14. The Issue Of Illegal Immigrants
No matter what a person s ethnicity or race may be, every person has thoughts, feelings, values,
aspirations, needs, and desires. People are uncomfortable if someone else s values and culture are
different from their own. The term for a group or community fearing another person s perspective and
lifestyle is called ethnocentrism. Ethnocentrism is the reason that American citizen s highly debate and
criticize illegal immigration, arguing that illegal immigrants are drug addicted thieves who thrive off
of stealing American s jobs and harming the United States labor force and the economy. As the
immigration rate progressively rise s it simultaneously concerns those who favor strict immigration
laws and believe that illegal immigrants are harming the United States. However, these assumptions
are hardly fact based and people fail to acknowledge that immigrants are human beings who only want
to help and support their families. The reality is that without illegal immigrants, the United States
would economically suffer.
Actual data shows that immigration has a generally positive impact on a county s economy, what with
immigrants doing work, paying taxes, spending their money in the country and all that. Even parts of
our infrastructure on which the economy depends are owned by foreigners. Places where strong anti
immigrant policies have been enacted usually suffer economic downturns as a result. It seems like
stopping immigration to improve the economy is like hacking your foot

Bananas, a very common fruit that is seen at all grocery stores are not naturally made. There are dozen
of species and different types of bananas, though they are not the ones that humans consume. The
banana that humans eat is called the Cavendish banana. This was not always the banana of choice. The
Gros Michel was the banana of choice until the 1960s. Though, the Gros Michel was extincted due to
the Panama disease. A disease which is now threating the survival of the Cavendish and the entire fruit

Yes, most bananas found in grocery stores and Walmarts are made by people. However, there are wild

This type of banana was bigger, sweeter, and had a thicker skin. Banana flavored things like candy and

reason why people do not eat Gros Michel anymore due to the genetic monotony of the Gros Michel.
A fungicide resistant pathogen, the Panama disease began infecting the crop. When the growers finally
realized of the disease, most of the population of the Gros Michel was extinct.
Due to the common banana going extinct at this time, the entire industry had to be rebuilt for the

Claude Steele, in his book Whistling Vivaldi, sheds new light on how pervasive stereotypes can
influence individual s behavior and academic performance, and how they perpetuate in different social
groups. Stereotype threat, as defined by Steele, is being at risk of confirming, as self characteristic, a
negative stereotype about a social group one identifies with.
(Steele, 1997) It is a general phenomenon standard predicament of life that springs from
intersubjectivity. (p.5) We tend to spontaneously categorize and label people according to their social
groups. Whenever someone is placed in a situation where a certain stereotype can be applied to

For example, Asian males are under the stereotype that they excel in math. When Asian males who are
relatively weak at math (compared to others in the group) are exposed to such identity contingencies,
they may be facing the fear of disconfirming the group s positive stereotype and result in low
performance. The pressure to perform as well as expected may create anxiety from the possibility of
being the atypical subtype of the group. Also, Walton has proposed a theory of stereotype lift, which is
enhancement in performance when people are exposed to negative stereotype. (Walton Cohen, 2003)
To strengthen the conclusions of the research, collecting samples across populations with varying
aspects should be considered.
Since stereotype threat has proven to be such a big factor affecting stereotyped individuals academic
achievement, many researchers have turned their attention toward reducing such threats.
Psychological intervention allowing minority students to become less susceptible to negative
stereotypes about the group s abilities significantly improved their performance at school for a long
time. Encouraging self affirmation allowed people to affirm their self worth and perceive themselves
as good and competent, improving their performance at school and reducing accessibility of racial

18. Causes Of Calcium Uptake From Foliar Application
Calcium Uptake from Foliar Application
Foliar Ca2+ application has been suggested to increase the fruit Ca2+ supply that may, in turn, reduce
fruit Ca2+ deficiency disorders. Spraying with Ca2+ solution reduces Ca2+ deficiency injury in plants
(Kleemann 2000b) e.g. foliar Ca2+ spray reduces BER incidence of tomato (Schmitz Eiberger, Haefs,
and Noga 2002) ; spraying of 0.5% solution of Calciogreen in glasshouse completely prevents BER
incidence of bell pepper variety Cecil though the fruit mass was reduced(Parađiković et al. 2004) ;
spraying of young tomato with CaCl2 limits the development BER (Schmitz Eiberger, Haefs, and
Noga 2002); spraying of celery with CaCl2 or Ca(NO3)2 completely control blackheart (Geraldson
1952, 1954). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, direct application of Ca2+ can reduce the symptoms of Ca2+ deficiency disorder but does
not remove them completely (Ferguson and Watkins 1989) and exogenous Ca2+ may not bound with
the cell structure tightly that leads to easy leakage of it (Ferguson and Watkins 1983).
Calcium Translocation within Plant
Soil solution Ca2+ enters the root apoplast with mass flow of water (Barber 1995) and is transported
to the xylem via apoplastic or symplastic pathways (White and Broadley 2003). Apoplastic pathway
consists of cell wall and intercellular spaces where Ca2+ moves with water passively across the

21. Britain s Role In The Battle Of The Somme
The Battle of the Somme occurred during July 1 to November 18, 1916. The British and their allies,
the French, wanted to claim the Germans territory on the Western Front. Before, this war transpired in
December of 1915 the British had their allied commanders to plan and analyze how they were going
to achieve the idea of bombarding the Germans province, which, was the River Somme. Then, the
British and French came up with their conclusion on how to attack this region later that year in 1916.

The Battle of Verdun began when the Germans fought on the British s French town of Verdun, this
caused war to continue throughout the year. The war started out with a ten hour attack that most of the
fighting power were pulled together to make it stronger. Although, the French were retreated by the
Germans they did not give up. Through the summer, the Germans were required to decrease their
power at Verdun subsequently when the British and Russians introduced their own assault. Once
summer passed in the Fall, the French obtained lost ground and cautiously organized their army.
Therefore, once the French got their army where it needed to be they fixed a strong protective victory

killed or injured and the French had around 550,000 men that were killed or injured. The many
casualties in this war overwhelmed the French political and military compromise, which caused

23. Symbolism In Wise Blood By Flannery OConnor
Could I change it if I wanted, can I rise above the flood? / Will it wash out in the water, or is it always
in the blood? (Mayer). A question posed by the artist John Mayer holds true for the characters in
Flannery O Connor s most famous novel, Wise Blood. In this novel, O Connor paints a picture of a
small town in the heart of the Bible Belt and the internal struggle of its inhabitants. The protagonist,
Hazel Motes, procures a twisted version of the Gospel and evangelizes to those who are made to
believe they are lost. Yet, according to the teachings of Haze, this picture that humans are inherently
sinful and in need of saving is false. In this novel, Flannery O Connor uses inanimate objects to show
the attempts of Haze to replace what he knows to be true. Enoch Emory, on the other hand, struggles
with a curse he believes he was born with wise blood. The prevalent themes of symbolism and
imagery in Flannery O Connor s Wise Blood represent the inner battle between spirituality and the
human nature of rebellion.
Coming back from the war, Hazel Motes mindset is simple following a commission of sharing his
gospel. O Connor uses inanimate objects to draw comparisons and also contrast Haze s secular and
spiritual sides. One of the objects in Haze s life that becomes an obstacle for him is his hat. The issue
with Haze s hat is shown by saying, Haze had a stiff black broad brimmed hat on his lap, a hat that an
elderly country preacher would wear (O Connor 4). As Haze tries to escape his preacher image, many
around him see the hat as an indication of his spirituality. This frustrates him, as he rejects any title
that one may give him concerning religion. In Nervous Shadow Walking Backwards, the author
describes the reason why this affects Haze so much by saying, In literature, a character s hat often
symbolizes identity, the selfhood of the character. Haze s hat is mistaken throughout the book as a
preacher s hat, an identity that he rejects (Bolton 91). Because of his desperation to escape this
reputation, Haze purchases a new hat that, counterintuitively, attracts the same comments as before. O
Connor uses this hat to symbolize the inability of Haze to escape the image he so intensely despises.

subsection{Case Study Description}
Fully automated driving is a new innovation in the automotive industry which will replace driver tasks
with software functions to make the traffic more comfortable and safe. Ensuring a high level of the
safety of the fully automated driving vehicles is a big challenge in developing such a project.
However, demands to a fully automated driving system, like fail operational and nominative
performance, is not covered by the current automotive safety standards like ac{ISO 26262}. ac{ISO}

standard which addresses the safety of electrical and electronic systems within road vehicles. It adapts
IEC 61508 to road vehicle E/E systems, including software components.
These standards were not established for fully automated driving. Fully automated driving is reliant on
more complex software to steer autonomously the vehicle on the road. That will bring new threats to

THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDHOOD ABUSE VICTIMS 2
The Behavioral Development of Childhood Abuse Victims and How Their Children Are Affected In
2015, The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a report containing the following
statistics: In 2013, approximately 3.9 million children in the United States were reported to have been
abused or mistreated. 52 states reported a total of 678,932 child victims of abuse and neglect. Victims
between the ages of birth to 1 year old had the highest rate of victimization at 23.1 per 1,000 children
of the same age in the national population. Neglect was the most prevalent form of child abuse, with
79.5% of child victims being made to suffer it. Physical abuse was the second most common form
(18.0%). In 2013, a nationally estimated 1,520 children died from abuse and neglect. (U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services, 2015). When reading these statistics, it is plain to see that
the abuse and mistreatment of children is a critical issue, not just in the United States, but globally.
Much research has been conducted to determine the general demographics of the perpetrators and the
victims, common trends in cases of abuse that could shed light on the psychology of the abusers and
their victims, and how the abuse inflicted on the victims affects their development into adulthood. In a

27. Alicia Painting Analysis
The painting s composition features a blue female figure, as the focal point, in front of a field of wheat
stalks under a dark sky. To begin with, the figure portrays Alicia when she stayed in the Polish village
Wujciechovka and found work in different fields. During that time, Alicia dressed with [her] hair
braided and bandanna to look like a typical peasant girl, Polish or Ukrainian, to prevent being
identified as a Jew (Appleman Jurman 139). The bandanna on the figure is painted red, the primary
color of the Soviet Union s flag, revealing Alicia s desire for Russian liberation of the village she hid
in. Furthermore, during the day, Alicia s mother would hide in the wheat field, like the one depicted in
the background, because she was too weak to work. She would part the tall and delicate stalks gently
before passing through, concealing her presence (Appleman Jurman 138). Her success in hiding is
reflected in the painting because the hill does not look like there are humans on it. Despite the danger

another painting that was completed last year. Similarly, Alicia was forced to make the most of the

To illustrate, a group of boys from Alicia s hometown would take branches left over from cut down
trees to sell as firewood (Appleman Jurman 46). Jewish families in ghettos had scarce means of
making money legally; the boys scavenged the forest for thin twigs to sell at the market. Second, the
yellow hill in the background of the painting was painted over with a dark blue wash. The bright

Prologue
One year ago
All was quiet within in the Forest of Forever Winter, the snow descended from the dark moon lit sky.
Snow builds in the branches of the many dark skeletal trees. Treading through the snow filled path
was a shrouded figure wearing black and blue garments beneath a slightly tattered navy blue cloak
with black inner lining, billowing in the breeze. The lower half of his face was obscured by a black
mask and his eyes hidden beneath the hood. Strapped across his back is a Daitō with a lock attached to
the sheath and the latch hooked to the guard.
The figure treaded through the snow filled path until the sound of a snapping twig and faint growls
coming from behind stopped him in his tracks. Taking the moment to listen noises he came to the
obvious conclusion. There was no mistaking those sounds...Beowolves, he thought to himself. As the
next twig snapped he un holstered a pair of old and battered flintlock pistols. Both are fitted with box
magazines with barrel length bayonets in front of the trigger guards.
Soon coming from behind the trees and foliage was a large black werewolf like creature with outer

of the many variations of the Creatures of Grimm . The Beowolf held its head high followed by a load

subject to study because if there is really ghost in the White House that would be kind of creepy.
Especially if you were the president living in the White House at the time and you saw old presidents
in the White House. For example, the most popular ghost in the White House was Abe Lincoln and he
was found in the oval office room. I believe that there are ghosts in the White House. And I would not

the White House, the White House burnt down and they believe that in a picture of the white house

32. U.s. Gross Domestic Product
As the United States moved further away from the immediate economic boom in the final years of the
World War and the following several years, its economy showed a major decline. While the country
fought one of the biggest wars of all time, defense spending rose to levels as high as 37.8 percent of
U.S. gross domestic product (Teslik). World War II was financed through debts and an increase in
taxes, and this negatively effected both consumption and investment. Some believed that the war
would improve the economy due to the increase in GDP during those years, but at the end of the war,
the economic growth fell back to the same trend it had been following during the 1930 s (Institute for
Economics and Peace). During the 1960 s, Federal spending soared because the government was
attempting to fund new programs such as Medicare, Food Stamps, and various plans to improve the
education system (US Department of State). Then, with the war in Vietnam on the horizon, military
spending began increasing as well, and the government started spending a surplus of money, since it
had to fund both the war on poverty domestically, and the prepare the nation for another war
internationally. The government raised taxes throughout the 1950 s and into the 1960 s with income
tax rates reaching the high 80% (Top US Tax Rates Over Time, graph). The government was unable to

33. This Side Of Paradise Essay
F. Scott Fitzgerald s debut novel, This Side of Paradise, is a bilsdungsroman featuring its protagonist
Amory Blaine. Set in the 1910s 20s, Fitzgerald repeatedly brings in historical and social context from
the era into the plot to reflect the growth of time alongside Amory s growth. World War I was
mentioned fleetingly in the first chapter and finally interrupts Amory s pace of life when he gets
drafted into the army during the Interlude section of the novel. Utilizing somber and dismal diction,
vivid imagery, and structural techniques such as repetition, Fitzgerald constructs Amory s complex
web of pre war emotions. The author describes a range of colors, scenery, and objects using dark and
dreary diction to convey Amory s uneasiness and fear about going to war. The author inserts lines such
as the still, deserted street, A column of dim gray and See how the sea is white! , depicting the streets,

Throughout the flow of the poem, it is blatant that the beginning and ending lines repeat each other.
This suggests that the poem has come full circle, and highlights the fact that the author has focused on
one theme, conveyed with a first person perspective. The choice of term nocturne at the end of the
poem before repeating the first line, given the context and timing of this poem, refer to a picture of a
night scene; however, nocturne can also refer to a dreamy piano melody or composition usually
connotated with night. This interpretation is probable as it would be a culmination and a finale to the
mix of dispirited emotions in this poem. Ending the poem with nocturne and a repetition of the
opening line, the author suggests that Amory and the readers, though still located at the same time and

his activities but his thinking process as well. His alcoholic drink will dull his senses in the time of his
death and had this been earlier in his life he would soak up the value of his emotion at this pivotal part
of life. This also shows a form of regret Harry holds onto. His exit from his poetic, artistic life into one

Poetry (260). He is filled with emotions, despite the alcohol, and regrets not having written about them

that it is now to late. In Harry s death we see the common emotions of regret and bravery, which both

Hemingway s usage of symbolism in The Snows of Kilimanjaro further propel the theme of death.
Animal symbolism is commonly used throughout the story from the very first lines. The two animals
that symbolize Harry s life are the leopard and the hyena. The leopard is seen as the type of person
Harry wants to be and the hyena symbolizes the type of person Harry, over the years, has become. The

37. Maria Montessori and Environment
Concentration is the key that opens up the child s latent treasures within him. As the scattered
elements if his personality comes together, order begins to take the place of disorder, and the work of
self construction, which had been interrupted, is now taken up again, as nature has intended all along.
E.M Standing, Maria Montessori: her life and work, pg 174
Learning, by itself, cannot happen without concentration. Whether we are learning to tie our shoes,
write our name, wash a car or solve complex algebraic equations, there is intense concentration
specific to the task at hand. Dr. Maria Montessori understood the power of concentration, and her
methodology is designed to nurture this power. Concentration in infants is a fragile ... Show more

The sensitive periods are triggered due to an unconscious will power/force called Horme, which
pushes the child to fulfill his divine urge. The sensitive periods are critical to the child s self
development. The child passes through six significant sensitive periods those for Sensitivity to order;
learning through five senses; sensitivity to small objects; sensitivity to co ordination of movement;
language and social aspect of life. Dr. Maria Montessori believed that the child is born with pre
determined psychic pattern or The eight Law s of Natural Development which are laid down before
birth i.e. Law of work; when children were exposed to the material in the prepared environment
become calm and peaceful and their destructive behaviors disappear. Thus, Montessori concluded that
some great need of the child must have been met through this activity of concentration. Law of
Independence, wherein the child uses his independence to listen to his own inner guide for actions that
can be useful for him. We must keep children independent by providing them enough opportunities to
work with materials. Power of attention, to further enhance and cultivate the power of attention we
engage the child into various Montessori activities thereby developing the ability to concentrate and
building personality. After internal coordination is established through the child s ability for prolonged
attention and concentration, the Development of Will takes place, where in

38. Ordovician Extinction Research Paper
Are we on the brink of a sixth mass extinction? Many say yes, but there is also hard evidence saying
no. Nonetheless, scientists can prove five mass extinctions in history. The first mass extinction
happened roughly around 445 million years ago. It was named the Ordovician Extinction. The species
affected were known as Graptolite, which are different types of sea creatures. Their demise on Earth
lasted around only one million years. Around sixty to seventy percent of the species disappeared, and
now the remaining species have evolved into something new. The extinction was likely because of a
short and dangerous ice age, or the formation of the Appalachian mountains. It was likely that glaciers
formed over the oceans and caused the sea levels to rapidly drop, killing the species.
The second mass extinction happened to sea creatures once again. Somewhere between 375 360
million years ago, fluctuations of the sea levels in the ocean caused a large portion of Earth s species
to disappear. Another cause would be the changes in climate change, asteroid strikes, or new land
plants. Some theories suggest that oxygen depletions in shallow waters caused the Devonian
Extinction. Other theories say that algae ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most likely cause of the extinction were asteroids or volcanic activity. Roughly ninety six percent
of the species on Earth disappeared. It was nicknamed The Great Dying. It happened around 250 253
million years ago. Scientists disagree on whether the extinction happened over the course of millions
of years, or whether in happened in a short 200,000 year period. This was the only extinction to take
out insects. It also took out coral, which means today s coral is an entirely different group of coral. An
eruption by Siberia blasted carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which could have been one of the
possible cause of the

1. Introduction:
Brief history:
Burger King s first restaurant, originally called Insta Burger King, was opened on December 4, 1954
in a suburb of Miami, Florida by James McLamore and David Edgerton; both alumni of the Cornell
University School of Hotel Administration.
In 1967, after eight years of private operation, the Pillsbury Company acquired Burger King and its
parent company Burger King Corporation. At the time of the purchase, BK had grown to 274
restaurants in the United States.
40. When Burger King Corporation began franchising in 1967, it relied on a regional franchising model
where franchisees would purchase the right to open stores within a defined geographic region. These
franchise agreements granted BKC very little oversight control over its franchisees and resulted in
issues of product quality control, store image and design and operations procedures.
Burger King Egypt:
The opening of the first Burger King® restaurant will took place during the second quarter of 2007 at
Egypt s City Stars Mall, Cairo, one of the largest shopping malls in the region. A further two openings
are due to follow shortly in Sharm El Sheikh, Signaling the beginning of a large expansion program
that will follow over the next five years

suggest that the interaction between human and machine is largely natural and social, indicating that
factors important in human human interaction are also important in human computer interaction. In
human human interaction, it has been argued that skills of so called emotional intelligence are more
important than are traditional mathematical and verbal skills of intelligence. These skills include the
ability to recognize the emotions of another and to respond appropriately to these emotions. Whether
or not these particular skills are more important than certain other skills will depend on the situation
and goals of the used, but what is clear is that these skills are important in human human interaction,

42. Malcolm Gladwell And Dead Poets Society
Everyone has their own interpretation of the word success. Individuals might even have their own
personal explanation of how they came to be successful. However, these personal explanations are
usually incorrect. Malcolm Gladwell, Steve Jobs, and the film, Dead Poets Society have a mutual
understanding of success, making them interconnective. Although success can be interpreted in
various ways, success is attained through hidden advantages, extraordinary opportunities, and
significant intelligence.
Unfortunately, an individual s personal qualities does not explain how they became successful. There
are often hidden advantages acquired in a successful person. Certain aspects about an individual s life
can turn out to be an advantage. In the book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell describes the system of
Canadian hockey leagues. The elegibility cutoff age for ameatur hockey leagues is on January 1st.
Malcolm explains how children who begin playing at a very young age are more likely to be selected
for more elite teams as they grow older. If an individual is born on a cut off date they are at an
advantage because they are more mature and make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is practical, analytical, and social intelligence in most individuals. Malcolm Gladwell believes
that an individual s IQ has a significant role in contributing to success. The relation seems to break
down when one is making comparisons between two people both of whom have IQs which are
relatively high. A mature scientist with an adult IQ of 130 is as likely to win a Nobel Prize as is one
whose IQ is 180. In Dead Poets Society, the young men were very intelligent, making it easy for them
to achieve high goals. They wouldn t have the opportunity to be go to a boarding school without the
money and most importantly the intelligence. Steve Jobs was also intelligent and attended Harvard
University. Even though Jobs dropped out of college he became of great things in the

43. Parenting Styles Of Child Rearing
There are four different parenting styles of Child rearing which include, the uninvolved parent, the
Authoritarian parent, the permissive parent, and the authoritative parent. Each style has different
characteristic that can be beneficial or harmful to a child s emotional and social development. The first
child rearing style is the uninvolved parent which is exactly like it sounds. These parents aren t
engaged with their child and are emotionally detached, they make little to no demands and let their
child do as they please. Next is the authoritarian parent who is overly aggressive. They tend to be cold
and rejecting toward their children and make so many demands that their child doesn t get a chance to
make any choices. Thirdly there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These kids tend to be more antisocial, are disobedient and defiant. School performance can decline
and they can t seem to stay on task. The parenting style that has positive outcomes to a child is an
authoritative parent. These children have higher self esteem, are more cooperative and have positive
behavior. They also have better school performance and stay on task.
As a parent, I tend to be around other parents often weather it s picking my kids up from school or
going to places like the zoo or museum. I have encountered all four times of parents. While on the
school playground I observed an uninvolved parent who was with a child that was between 2 3 years
of age who must have been picking up and older sibling. This parent let the child walk a good 30 feet
ahead of them while starring at their phone screen the whole time. The child went onto the playground
and was attempting to climb stairs to go down a slide, the parent honestly never looked up from their
phone and just sat on a bench. During this time I am with my daughter so I kept an eye on the child
and helped him climb the stairs. In the next ten minutes or so the parent not once engaged in their
child or looked to see if he was still around. The child also seemed to have had an accident but was
still playing in his wet clothes. I didn t notice any emotional or behavioral challenges with the boy
because he seemed happy to be playing outside but I did end
