Child Obesity Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of child obesity is no easy task, as it demands a careful balance
of sensitivity, research, and the ability to convey complex information in a comprehensible
manner. The difficulty lies not only in presenting the alarming statistics and health implications
but also in addressing the multifaceted causes and potential solutions. It requires a nuanced
exploration of socio-economic factors, cultural influences, parental roles, and the impact of
modern lifestyles on children's health.
Furthermore, the writer must tread

Similarly, we serve only one city in each of our international destinations.
The competitive change that will occur is that the reciprocal carriers will be offered
beyond rights so they can serve any of our destinations. This right will include
carriage of passengers from one domestic city to another.
The offer of beyond rights, of course, will be subject to our gaining similar rights in
the corresponding international market.
In my opinion, we have one of two ways to go. We can try to be a major, full service
carrier, or we can focus on being a low cost carrier for our local markets. We need to

Appointment Scheduling Paper
Outpatient clinic is a health care facility where patients are given treatment on same
day instead of hospitalizing them. Most clinics are staffed by Primary care providers
(PCPs) that are first point of contact between patients and health systems. PCPs
provide the majority of care, the patient receive during lifetime. Thus, it is essential
for outpatient clinics to achieve higher patient satisfaction and provide quality care.
Appointment scheduling system used in clinic lie at intersection of efficiency and
timely access. It have greater impact on generating smooth flow of patients and
resource utilization. A good appointment scheduling system can greatly improve
patient satisfaction by reducing waiting time and assuring timely access to... Show

Research by Alaeddini, Kai Yang and Reddy (2011) have attempted to predict the no
show probability of individual patient based on available historical data of clinic. In
research, they have used analytical technique like logistics regression to predict no
show probability of patient with data of over 3 years. Other studies have focused on
open access appointment scheduling. The technique is found to be effective in
reducing patient waiting time and appointment lead time. It allows patient to book
appointment just before 1 or 2 days. BY considering all problems, it can be concluded
that it is challenging to build outpatient appointment scheduling system with
capability to handle every problem and work well under all circumstances. Another
approach adapted in recent year is overlapping appointment scheduling . Anderson ,
Zheng, Sang Won Yoon , Khasawneh (2014) have developed Overlapping
Appointment Scheduling (OLAS) model that minimizes patient waiting time and
doctor idle time in outpatient clinic. The aim of the research is to find the optimal
overlap period between two consecutive scheduled appointment. In research, they
have proposed an analytical model with objective of minimizing total cost of patient
waiting time, doctor idle time and overtime. Service time is assumed to follow a
uniform distribution with slot length as
Zombie Apocalypse Speech
As I was arguing with Dean about alcohol warming the body, it dawned on me.
Alcohol restricts the flow of blood to the brain, I blurted out, cutting my friend off in
mid sentence.
What does that have to do with anything? he asked, perturbed at my outburst. I could
hear static as he checked one of the walkie talkies.
That s why some of the people we encountered turned at an incredibly slow rate, I
explained, almost having to stop the vehicle in my eureka moment.
What do you mean? Dean asked clearly not following.
I had forgotten that everyone was not privy to the notes I had taken during the

Humvees, Drew corrected.
She frowned, Whatever. We re all tired and we don t know what s ahead. Is it smart

Melissa placed a hand on my shoulder. She s right, she agreed. If there s any sort of
trouble ahead, it would be best if we were rested.
We passed out some of the food and water. Each vehicle would be responsible for
their own watch. Everyone would stay inside. Even though it was very remote here,
we couldn t chance a guard being outside. One slip up and we would all be vulnerable.
The night passed with no incident. The birds stirring woke us with their songs. If you
didn t think about the woman in the bathroom, you would think this area was
completely untouched.
Everyone used the bathroom one last time and we ate and drank a little before
resuming our journey. The day was cooler, a cold front from the north having
followed the storm. It left the air crisp and pure feeling.
As I started up the military vehicle, I could see Dean s telltale mark on the woman s
restroom door. Dead inside. Not a zombie, just dead, written in permanent marker.

Investigating The Absorption And Release Of Pah And Oc
In practice, one of the most widely used polymers is PDMS because it is a material
that has good partitioning properties such as low mass transfer resistance for
hydrophobic and nonpolar compounds (Mayer et al. 6148) and recently there has
been many studies investigating PDMS absorptive properties, however, only a few
have focused on the ability of PDMS to release absorbed chemicals into water. In
general, experiments have proven that PDMS can be used to calculate the
equilibrium concentrations of many different compounds dissolved in water once the
concentrations of these analytes absorbed in the pellets are determined. Since PDMS
is not affected by the nature of the matrices or by exposure to hydrophilic chemicals,
it can be used for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assuming that the process exhibit a labguimir equilibrium distribution, the
thermodynamic behavior of the partitioning process can be modeled by using a first
order one compartment equation (Vrana et al. 845).
C_PDMS (t)=C_w (k_1/k_(2 ) )(1 e^( tk_2 ))
C_w represents the concentration of analyte in water, C_s(t) the concentration of
analyte at a given time on the PDMS, and k1/k2 are the uptake and release rates
constants in the kinetic process. The exchange of solute into and out of a passive
sampling system usually follows a predictable languimuir isotherm as shown in figure
1 (Seethapathy, GГіrecki, and Li 234).Labumier isotherms occurs when... Figure 1.
Passive sampling devices operate in two main regimes (kinetic and equilibrium).
Therefore, a mathematical equation that relates the concentration of analyte absorbed
in the PDMS pellets as a function of uptake or release rate constants k, equilibrium
concentration of the compounds in the polymer and the t95% can be used (Smith,
Oostingh, and Mayer 55). T95% is the time to reach 95% of the maximum measure
concentration or steady state (Smith, Oostingh, and Mayer 55), so at t95% the
concentration of analyte at time t is 0.95 of the equilibrium concentration (Ct =
0.95Ceq) (Brown and A. 4097).
C_(PDMS(t))=C_PDMS(eq) (1 e^( tk_upload )) t_(95%)=3/k Where C_(PDMS(t))
represents the concentration of analyte that is absorbed on
The Film Analysis Of The Movie Mementos
Mementos the backwards version of a masterpiece In the movie mementos It
illustrates an investigator for an insurance agency who lost his memory and in an
interesting yet confusing and frustrating way shows him solving his wife s murder. It
takes an interesting approach to storytelling by putting the viewer in as much of a
confused state as much as the main characterhimself. Which leads to the viewer of
the movie to become somewhat lost in the vagueness of it all.mementos is a movie
that has succumb to failure due the fact that the story was too confusing, Needless
information and this style of storytellingsimply does not function . To begin the story
it started off with the death of who would later become a main character when it
shows him in a scene later on it sends the viewer into confusion most would probably
assume their version of the movie is messed up. This initial confusion with nothing to
address it but a black and white short already causes disinterest in the movie.then as
you begin to understand things the movie makes you feel as though you are watching
the same thing which makes it far more difficult to notice smaller points in the movie
the must be picked up. Then they introduce someone completely different natalie who
acts sometimes acts as though they are close and other times fools with his emotions
which gives us another uncertainty, who is this? We ask ourselves how long has she
known him? Movies can be unbearable and unwatchable when they offer up
The Role Of Despair In Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like

In Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants, one of the main characters asks
the other That s all we do isn t it look at things and try new drinks? (Hemingway
476). In Hemingway s novel, The Sun Also Rises, the characters could also claim
that this was their lives. At any point in the story they are essentially doing nothing
but looking at things and trying new drinks. Critics are right to say that the novel
presents motion that goes nowhere and that it is a novel of stasis and despair. The
characters in The Sun Also Risesoften go to new places, such as new bars with
friends, or even to foreign countries, but they never seem to do anything new. The
only thing that changes about their lives is the setting. Even when Jake was with...

Brett is the most obvious example of this, when she is in the cab at the beginning
of the novel and says to Jake, Oh, darling, I ve been so miserable (32). No matter
what she does she never seems truly happy. She can get distracted from her
sadness, but she does not escape it. This is shown when she is at the club with
Jake and the Count, and she says It s all gone... I don t know, I just feel terribly
(70). Brett goes out and parties and drinks with the thought that it could make her
happy, but she still feels awful. And she makes the people around her feel bad as
well. For example, Cohn, despite being a boxer, was never one to fight people, but
after he had an affair with Brett, he got into a fight with Jake, Mike, and Pedro.
When he realizes what he has done he is ashamed of himself, saying, Please don t
remember it. I was crazy (197). He even asks all the people he hurt to shake hands
afterward, as sort of a repentance. Cohn is obviously in despair, partly because he
was in love with Brett and losing her to all these other men, but also because he
knows that his jealousy is turning him into something he is
Ethics of the Nuremberg Code Essay
From 1946 to 1947, the Nuremberg War Crime Trials took place, withfifteen of
twenty three German physicians and research scientist physicians found guilty of
criminal human experimentation projects. The trial court attempted to establish a set
of principles of human experimentation that could serve as a code of research ethics.
The result was the Nuremberg Code, which attempted to provide a natural law based
set of universal ethical principles.Looking beyond the Nuremberg Code and applying
it to modern medical researchethics, there are many challenges that it poses. Many
have argued that the Code tries to provide for all unforeseen events, which restricts
the researcher by requiring him to anticipate every situation, demanding the... Show

Hence, a proxy was given to those who did not have legal capacity allowing
researchers to expand their population for experimentation.
The term informed has also been criticized because sometimes even the researcher is
not aware of the risks associated with the experiment or they are too technical for the
subject to understand. Thus scientists have argued that only adequate information
should be released to the patient and a full understanding is not necessary. In this
clause, responsibilities are placed on the individual who is initiating, directing, or
engaging the experiment but there is no place for the researcher to be reviewed for
his actions. The scientist is in full control of making any necessary ethical
deliberations. The Declaration of Helsinki added a clause stating experimental
protocols should be transmitted to a specially appointed independent committee for
consideration and comments. The third principle of the Code addresses the
justification of the performance of the experiment based on previous studies done on
animals. This may be challenged because the researcher cannot always guarantee
success of the experiment even though it has been successful on animals or in
previous studies. Uncertainties in the experiment will always be present. The
Declaration of Helsinki does not
What Is Mayo s Strategic Advantage Of Being The Best Of
Best
Mayo is determined to set a new standard in healthcare by eliminating waste and
improving efficacy. As the healthcare changed in the 1990s, Mayo began to approach
quality with increasing rigor, measuring more thoroughly the results of its efforts.
Though the organizational priority for Mayo was improvement and transformation,
the approach was patient centric which resulted in good financial outcomes.
However, Mayo wanted to provide hope for the patients and help staff provide
excellence in all they do. Mayo s strategic advantage of being the best of best was
tested in 1999, the institute of Medicine(IOM) issued a pivotal report which
challenged the healthcare providers to reduce the preventable medical errors by 50%

Essay On Ethnicity And Multiculturalism
The meaning of music and its value has evolved over the years of its birth. In the
present world, music is now interpreted and taken as one can imagine it. The idea and
worth of music to an individual or group can mean anything to them. There is no
consistent meaning of music because anyone can create their own meaning rather
than following another s. Ethnicity on the other hand has a solid definition. From the
Oxford Concise Dictionary of Sociology, Ethnicity defines individuals who consider
themselves, or are considered by others, to share common characteristics which
differentiate them from the other collectives in a society within which they develop
distinct cultural behavior. (Marshall, 1994) Ethnicity in a sense is the idea and... Show

I felt like there was no diversity when it came to the repertoire that the ensembles
performed. I bring this up because I grew up in an environment that is filled to the
brim with different cultures and backgrounds, but the music that the children learn
only represents one group. I feel like the town s music program could have been so
much more but it fell stuck to traditions. By doing this, children immediately become
uninterested in music and dislike taking music classes and only a handful of children
stay within the program. Their only reason to take the class is to fill the requirement
then afterwards never take a music class again. In the end, the students have more
trouble finding their own identity, ethnically and musically. They had to explore the
music for themselves and find what they like.
I believe it is important to showcase all of the distinct genres and styles of music in a
music classroom because they are all important to whoever is listening and it helps
show the students that they should be proud of what they identify themselves as. It is
disappointing to see such a great and well funded music program such as South
Brunswick Township to fall under traditions and norms, and not further explore other
music that can help students find themselves. It is vital to show children different
composers and artists that are like them and are more invested into and better
represent them
Guitar Recital Essay
Guitar Recital This project was interesting to me because I really don t take the
time to listen to different types of music like classical guitar. This was my first time
listening to this type of music and it was pretty good. It showed me that there are
more than a few types of music out there. The CD I chose was the 2013 Guitar
Recital by Philip Hemmo. The tracks that where on it are Ciaconna, Introduction et
Polonaise, Adagio, Caprice, Danza Mora, Julia Florida and Sevillana. My favorite
song was Adagio which homage to J. S. Bach. It was calm and was played a
perfect speed. It slowed down and sped up through the whole song. Also the volume
of the guitar was quit and loud threw the different parts of the song. It is also a very
long song
Ancient Land Of Canaan Analysis
The ancient land of Canaan, located in the Middle East, has been promised to many
different people, and in result, has been ruthlessly fought over. After the Holocaust,
Great Britain split the land in half, giving one part to the Palestinians who had lived
there for many years, and the rest to the Israelis who had been there since the
beginning of monotheistic religion. The boundaries have constantly changed, due to
constant fighting and wars. The Israelis believe the land is rightfully theirs, because
it was the birthplace of their religion. The Proclamation of the State of Israelsays, The

Rebecca Daphne Du Maurier Essay
The novel Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier is a gothic romance novel to say the
least. It is a classic tale of mystery, romance and, suspense. Du Maurier tells the
story of a nameless woman who becomes the second wife of Mr. Maxim De
Winter. They live at Manderley along with the servants of the estate. The main
character is faced with the fact the Maxim s first wife Rebecca, is idolized into
something of the perfect wife from the very beginning. However, as the reader soon
finds out, Rebecca was anything from perfect. She only portrayed the image of
perfection for those who were not her husband Maxim. Daphne Du Mauriers use of
an insecure female narrator shows the reader that this story could not have been told

She s still the mistress here, even if she is dead. She s the real Mrs. de Winter, not
you. It s you that s the shadow and the ghost. It s you that s forgotten and not wanted
and pushed aside. (250).
The narrator having to hear all of this has a very low self confidence when it comes
to her marriage. The narrator assumes that everyone is right and Maxim will not
love anyone but Rebecca. The narrator couldn t have been more wrong however.
Maxim, explaining to the narrator what kind of woman Rebecca really was states:
Oh, my God,...You thought I loved Rebecca?...You thought I killed her, loving her?
I hated her, I tell you, our marriage was a farce from the very first. She was vicious,
damnable, rotten through and through. We never loved eachother, never had one
moment of happiness together. Rebecca was incapable of love, of tenderness, of
decency. She was not even normal. (275).
As the reader goes on through the story we learn Rebecca was a truly dark woman.
Just as Maxim had described. Allegedly, Rebecca had an affair with her cousin
behind Maxims back. Rebecca may have been idealized by everyone that met her
however she wasn t what the narrator or anyone, had
Comparison Of John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
The story of Of Mice and men takes place in John Steinbeck s birth town Salinas, a
town in California close to the Salinas River and Salinas Valley. Being born and
raised in an agricultural society managed by Capitalism, Steinbeck witnessed the
effects it had on the working class. Jay Parini, the writer of John SteinbeckA
Biography, tells us that John Steinbeck sifted through his whole life, all of his
experiences, while writing this book. So of course when Steinbeck wrote Of Mice
and Men it easily assumed that he was greatly influenced by his own experiences and
personal interactions with migrant laborers. (Parini) Steinbeck wrote Of Mice and
Men during a difficult time in American history: The Great Depression. The Great
Depression had a major impact on American society. Roughly thirty three percent of

Analysis Of Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, And Family
Life
Summary: Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, and Family Life Annette Lareau, author
of Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, and Family Life, revealed her research findings
in this enlightening text featuring twelve socially, economically, and culturally
diverse families having a child nine to ten years of age respectively in their nuclear
familyunit. These families were garnered from the author s coinciding study
comprised of eighty eight children. Lareau, along with her research assistants, visited
each family approximately twenty times. Visits included time spent within the home,
as well as family events, school functions, doctor s visits, structured activities,
shopping trips, and church services. Wide ranging contexts allowed researchers a
unique opportunity to observe and record a multiplicity of interactions within each
family unit. Exploring the nuances of race and social position beginning in childhood
and culminating in adulthood Lareau explores different approaches exercised by
parents in raising children. Separating families into three categories, including:
middle class, working class, and poor, the author began her study. Attempting to
answer the question, What is the outcome of these different philosophies and
approaches to child rearing? Lareau discovers that the answer was found in the
transmission of differential advantages (Lareau 2011:5). Accordingly, these
advantages equip children with tools to navigate through life progressively or
prohibitively respective to the individual instruction obtained in childhood. In
unearthing these discoveries, the author employed the use of ethnography through
naturalistic observation utilizing field notes and taped recordings of interviews with
family members. Poor and working class parents were found to hold to an
accomplishment of natural growth parental philosophy. Natural growth promotes a
clear separation between children and adults, employs the use of directives, places
little emphasis on the importance of verbal communication and eye contact, allows
children greater independence, and promotes deference and submissiveness to adults.
Inspiring and positive qualities can be found in children raised in homes exercising
this perspective, qualities such

The Moral Dilemma Of The Louisiana Purchase
President Thomas Jefferson faced many moral dilemmas during the process of
deciding to purchase the territory, the moral predicaments that president Thomas
Jefferson faced was going against the constitution, going in major debt to pay for
the territory, and also faced many issues with foreign policy almost exclusively
between the countries Spain and France. President Jefferson was put in a situation
that no other leader of our young country had ever been in, and he stressed about
breaking his own moral code to make the correct decision for his nation. President
Jefferson s major personal moral dilemma was actually purchasing the territory of

was founded by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, This party was created in
opposition of the federalist party which was led by Alexander Hamilton. The
Democratic Republican party believed that a strong central national government
would deplete and completely rid the rights of states. The party strongly disapproved
of the national Bank Of The United States stating that the bank was taking away
power that belonged to the states. Among many of the views of the Democratic
Republican the strongest belief was to strictly abided by the constitution, so when the
opportunity arose to purchase the French owned territory, the constitution did not
state whether the government could or could not acquire any new land

Abstract
This paper explores the experimental research method and specifically the experiment
conducted by Professor Smith, a Psychology professor who has a hypothesis that
Vitamin E improves memory, to determine the flaws in her experiment. In the
process, the paper also clearly explains the various key factors which determine the
outcome and accuracy of the method of experimental research, such as dependent
variables, independent variables, experimental groups, and control groups. This paper
examines the factors that render Professor Smith s experiment as flawed, and finally
attempts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could easily have had a demoralizing effect on the mental state of the control
group and an encouraging effect on the experimental group, which would decrease
the accuracy and validity of her findings as other factors beside the independent
variable could have affected the dependent variable. Another flaw with her
experimental design is the division of the experimental group and the control
group into two seperate sections, creating a social inequity, specially as the first
half of the students were allowed to sit in the front and the latter half were made to
sit in the ramaining half of the class in the back. This could have created a sense of
expectancy in the experimental group and compelled them to try harder, while the
control group might have assumed they weren t expected to do well and as a result
not strive enough to succeed. According to Feldman and Dinardo ( 2012 ), one of the
factors that distort how the independent variable affects the dependent variable in an
experiment is participant expectations. The participants in Professor Smith s
experiment were aware of their assigned groups, which could have raised or lowered
their expectations, depending on the group to which they were assigned. Finally, the
flaw with Professor Smith s conclusion is that the experiment was conducted to test
her hypothesis that Vitamin E

Dictionary.com defines corporation as an association of individuals, created by law

Who Was Joseph A Hero In The Bible
I think Joseph was one of the greatest heroes in the Old Testament and an
extraordinary obedience to God After the terrible thing his brother did to him, Joseph
offered forgiveness and made this incredible statement in Genesis 50:20, You
intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good.
As a young man, Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers as they were very
jealous because he was his father s favourite. Joseph showed determination by
standing up for what he believed.
When Joseph became a servant of Potiphar he stayed faithful to both the Lord and to
Potiphar. He accepted that this was the path God chose for him and served God
faithfully.
Another reason, why Joseph is classified as a Biblical Hero is that he never gave into
Rufus Stillman House
For the critical essay assignment I specifically chose the building called the Rufus
Stillman House. The House is located in Litchfield, Connecticut and was built in
1950 by the architect Marcel Breuer. Marcel Breuer became acquainted with this
couple, Rufus and Leslie Stillmen, in 1949. They became acquainted when Breuer s
work of his demonstration housethat was on display in a courtyard at the Museum of
Modern Art, which is located in New York. The couple hired Marcel Breuer to design
a modern house for their property in Litchfield. The Stillman House was the resulting
structure.
The structure was built in 1950 and is known as Stillman House I. The design of
the house brought together the mix of modern style and Colonial Revival, the house
is considered to be mid century modern style while it was built in a town that is
primarily used to Colonial Revival style. The house contains an outdoor swimming
pool with a mural painted by Breuer s friend, Alexander Calder. The Stillman sold
this house, the original, when they moved into the second home that Breuer built for
them, called Stillman II, and then decided to purchase it back and continue to reside
there. Breuer built two other houses for them, along with this one, however, Stillman
I seemed to be the favorite of all three.

for its architect by the beauty and creativeness of the house. Since the house was

Nearly five hundred years ago, Jacque Cariter set sail on an expedition for King
Louis I to find Asai. Instead of reaching his intended destination, he discovered what
would become French Canada. However it was Samuel de Champlian, one hundred
years later, to truly claim the land for France and to establish a permanent capitol
of New France, QuГ©bec city. It remained so for a century and a half, expanding in
agriculture, population, and territory and establishing a french colonial
administration. However during the Seven Year War France was forced to sign the
Treaty of Paris with England after General Wolfe conquered QuГ©bec. Therefore,
Canada transferred from a province of France to a colonial of Britain. Canada

The During The Middle Ages
During the time in which Rome existed in the Middle Ages it accumulated an
abundant amount of land and wealth. The way that Rome accomplished this was by
defeating the peoples that ruled the land they wanted and incorporating them into
their ever expanding empire. The reason the Romans were so successful at doing this
is because of their technological advances, logistical capabilities, and ability to
implement strategy efficiently and safely. These when put together allow an army
during the Middle ages to deploy consistently with high moral and low mortality.
Romans dominated the battlefield in almost every battle they fought during their 507
year reign, holding off barbarians breaking down walls and holding the line in every

Their strategy allowed the Romans to effectively turtle through enemies, however
when this was not possible the Romans utilized strategies like the wedge in which
a group of Romans rush at one point in a wedge shape towards the defending
enemies pressing through the lines and separating the enemy formation dividing
and conquering the enemy. This tactic was used against the Persians by Alexander
the Great back when the Greeks ruled most of the western world. With these things
considered Rome was by far the most strategic empire during combat. Roman
weaponry alike their legions were a collection of tools that Romans have refined
continuously making them more and more effective. Even though Romans had
weapons they created on their own, many of the weapons in their arsenal were
adopted from previous foes and refined to make them more effective. A good
example of this is the Gladius, a common sword among roman legions almost every
person had one was actually a sword from Spain that the Romans found powerful.
Other weapons that the Romans took in include the pilum, javelin, ballista,
crossbow, and hasta. Some strategies the Romans used were inspired by the
strategies of fallen enemies that the commander had seen and could implement
correctly. The Idea of the legion itself was originally Greek the Greek hoplites were
technically the first part of a legion and when the Romans expanded on it creating the

Evolutionary Computing Based Approach For

Abstract Genetic Algorithm (GA) is a stochastic randomized blind search and
optimization technique based on evolutionary computing that has already been
proved to be robust and effective from its outcome in solving problems from variety
of application domains. Clustering is a vital technique to extract meaningful and
hidden information from the datasets. Clustering techniques have a broad field of
application including bioinformatics, image processing and data mining. In order to
the find the close association between the densities of data points, in the given dataset
of pixels of an image, clustering provides an easy analysis and proper validation. In
this paper, we propose an evolutionary computing based approach for unsupervised
image clustering using elitist GA (EGA) a efficient variant of GA that segments an
image into its constituent parts automatically. The aim of this algorithm is to produce
precise segmentation of images using intensity information along with their
neighbourhood relationships. Experimental results from simulation study reveal that
the algorithm generates good quality segmented image. Keywords Image Clustering,

people having a confrontation right behind my group of friends. The conversation
quickly escalated as one of the members of the group swings a punch at another
member of the other group. The brawl was on; in a blink of an eye, both groups
were on the ground tumbling and throwing punches. People were running towards
the fight for some odd reason; instead, me and the girls ran towards the door of the

Recidivism of Sex Offenders Essay example
Sex offenders have been a serious problem for our legal system at all levels, not to
mention those who have been their victims. There are 43,000 inmates in prison for
sexual offenses while each year in this country over 510,000 children are sexually
assaulted(Oakes 99). The latter statistic, in its context, does not convey the severity
of the situation. Each year 510,000 children have their childhood s destroyed,
possibly on more than one occasion, and are faced with dealing with the assault for
the rest of their lives. Sadly, many of those assaults are perpetrated by people who
have already been through the correctional system only to victimize again. Sex
offenders, as a class of criminals, are nine times more likely to repeat their... Show

Barbaree looked at 224 sex offenders. Of those men, 33 committed a new offense of
some kind for a general recidivism rate of 14.7 percent. Even more interesting was
the study did not support the idea that good treatment behavior, as in positive or
appropriate behavior in group sessions, good homework assignments, and positive
ratings of motivation, could be associated with a less of a chance for recidivism.
They gave two possible reasons for this finding. Sex offenders, by the very nature of
their criminal behavior, are masters of manipulation and exploitation. These
individuals can exhibit behavior that contributes to favorable assessments. The
second possible reason is these skills are learned, or enhanced, in the treatment
setting. Data from a program evaluation by Quinsey et al in 1998 is consistent with
this interpretation. They hypothesized that it was due to exposure to sexually
deviant material or by learning about others modi operandi. A more recent study,
published in the same journal, by Looman et al in 2000 suggests the opposite. Of
the released sex offenders they studied they found a 23.6 percent recidivism rate for
those treated while a 51.7 percent rate for the untreated group. They also conducted
an analysis separately on the outcome for men who had previous sexual convictions.
Those with no previous sexual offense convictions had a 20.9 percent recidivism rate
of the treated men compared to 42.9 percent of the untreated men. Of

Wizard Of Oz Conflict
The Wizard of Oz is a visionary classic, weather it be the book or the movie. The
conflict can be a plethora of different things but the most important the major
conflict is person vs. self. This conflict and deep meaning is what makes it a
classic. It s a battle between dorothy and herself, she has to find out where she
belongs and where her home really is. The first example of this is the song over
the rainbow, not only is it a major song in the movie that holds lots of symbolism
but it also is the first major introduction of the conflict. The song is about Dorothy
wanting to go somewhere far away, far from home. This starts her conflict about
wanting to leave her home and find a place to go. The second major piece of
information as to what
Teenage Curfew For Teenagers
Many states are require a curfew for teenagers on weekdays and weekends. Many
students will say that having a curfew should be required because teenagers are
walking the street and could get kidnapped, teenagers would be at a higher risk of
having an accident behind the wheel while driving, and it gives teenagers the
privilege to learn responsibilities. There are many reasons why teenagers should have
a curfew.
There is many nights you will see kids or teens walking the streets at night. Would
you let your child walk around at night? Teens shouldn t be out late at night due to
safety. Having your teen rome the streets at night could put them at a risk of
danger. At any time during the night they could be taken by a stranger. There are
enough crazy people out there that wouldn t mind taking your child from you.
Someone could easily pick the kid up off the street without anyone knowing. Your
child without any parental supervision walking the streets is a great opportunity
for anyone to snatch them up. Allowing your child to walk the streets at night
could possibly put them at risk of getting hit by a vehicle too. Drivers at night don t
always see what is ahead of them. Just simply walking down the road could be the
last time you saw your kid. Do us all a favor and get your child in by curfew.
Most teens these days are wild and out of hand. They go out partying, do drugs,
and go to places they really shouldn t be. Teens will lie to their own parents about
what they are doing or where they are just to continue. By sixteen most of them get
their license. Being an inexperienced driver driving at night isn t the best idea.
Many teen drivers always have a passenger with them, probably another teen,
during any situation. So driving at night could have quite a bit of distractions
especially considering more than half of teens use their phones while driving.
Driving at night comes with a few responsibilities too. Some people walk at night,
wild animals are out at night, you always have to watch for other cars, and their is a
high risk you could fall asleep behind the wheel. Because teens don t get enough
sleep, many have sleep deprivation. Not getting enough sleep is a chance of someone
falling asleep behind the

The excess of carbon in the atmosphere is the cause of global climate change. To
reverse global warming we must balance the carbon cycle by removing carbon from
the atmosphere and returning it to the plants and to the soil (4). Though in the end,
carbon exists in everything and the carbon cycle is much more complex because it
includes every plant, animal, microbe, fallen tree, body of water, bit of soil, breath
of air, plume of smoke, combustion of fossil fuel, decaying particle, and bubble
popping to the surface of a swamp (5). Industrial farming has disrupted this cycle. If
we completely halted the burning of fossil fuels today, which we can not by any
means, climate change would still continue through modern agriculture. The key to
reversing global warming is not solely through solar panels and ethanol fuel, but in
proper symbiotic farming
The Science Of Human Sexuality Essay
Sexology, an idea truly founded during the late nineteenth century, is the science
of human sexuality and fixates on the non reproductive physical and conceptual
functions of sex. Methodically researching physical sexual behavior and
objectively analyzing concepts of sexual desires, knowledge, and fantasies,
sexology examines human sex and sexual identity in its raw, realistic, and carnal
form. The science includes aspects of psychopathologic study in its evaluation of
individuals sexual identities, attained by observing which sexual acts an
individual engages in and what his or her objects of sexual desire are. This science
of sexology matured into its esteemed area of study in three stages, which span the
late nineteenth century through the late twenty first century. Preceded by an era
of largely constrictive and suppressive sexual culture, the initial phase and of
sexology arose in Germany and her surrounding countries from the 1860s through
1890s. Karl Marie Kertbeny first used sexology as a term in 1869. Richard Krafft
Ebing authored Psychopathia Sexualis (1886) and propelled Sexology s initial
stage by using the text to understand what normally functioning sexualities and
lifestyles were, procreation focused, opposite sex exclusive ideologies that perhaps
represented sexuality in an ideal world. However, Krafft Ebing s text goes on to
observe and record the true actuality of what sexuality looked like for people and
solidifies stage one as a stage of
World War I ( 1914-1918 ) Essay
History repeats itself a third time.
World War means a war that affects the whole world; it specially involves and
destroys the most powerful and biggest nations of the time. It is a war on such a
huge scale that affects also countries of different parts of the world, it lasts for
multiple years. So far only two events that happened on a huge scale that humanity
has never seen before the 20th century and have been labeled as World War ; those
are World War I(1914 1918) and World War II (1939 1945). The term World War
III is usually used to describe a predicted global conflict in the future. However, these
days a lot of people are assuming it might be in the near future.
Some historians speculate that he term World War was coined in the 20th century,
Almost 10 years before World War I. it was first mentioned in the title of a book
called Der Weltkrieg: Deutsche Traume ( The World War: German Dreams ) written
in 1904 by the German writer August Wilhelm Otto Niemann, it is said that World
War is a literal translation of the word Weltkrieg . According to the oxford English

was actually more than two World Wars that happened and that there are in fact
events that could be classified as World Wars, as they are intercontinental wars. For

Many managers are unaware of the legal liability that e mail plays in our
courtrooms. Some ways that companies can avoid litigations in court are; writing
with accuracy and precision, know your topic, be consistent, and avoid negative
comments. Recently, General Motors was hit with a $4.9 billion verdict. That
verdict was based largely upon an internal memo. One researcher reports in Every
Word Counts from Patricia S Eyres concludes, the fact is that during a trial, the
courts will review and analyze everything from informal memos to performance
appraisals to marketing plans, all of which may be turned against the company

U.S. Department of Labor estimates that illiteracy accounts for about $225 billion
each year in lost productivity (Donovan E mail 15). Most companies today don t
track that cost, however their overall profit will reflect it. Several published articles
referenced companies that were hit with heavy penalties relating back to their
employees writing skill levels. This cost is needless and unbearable for many
companies to carry. Companies are also faced with excessive employee turnover or
loss of manpower. Writing skills should be part of the interview process for most

Yucca Plants and Yucca Moths: A Coevolutionary Point of View

BIOL 3700: Evolution
Maxence Salomon
Introduction
According to Thompson (1994), coevolution is defined as the reciprocal
evolutionary change in interacting species . This occurs when one species has a
significant effect on the survival or reproductive success of another species and vice
versa, leading to the gradual evolution of both species. It is important to study this
topic, as it is possible that the evolution of a majority of the world s life forms was
affected by the coevolution occurring between plants and insects (Smith et al., 2009).
It is generally accepted that there are three forms in which coevolution can take place
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coevolution in this scenario occurs by selection for those organisms from both taxa
which possess trait which allow them to take the best advantage of this mutualism
relative to their conspecifics. An example of this relationship is the plant pollinator
interaction between yucca plants and yucca moths.
While the relationship between yucca plants (Family Agavaceae) and yucca moths
(Genus Tegeticula and Parategeticula) can be defined as mutualistic, it is more than
an ordinary mutualism (Sheppard and Oliver, 2002). In a generic mutualistic
relationship, both organisms gain fitness benefits from the interaction, but are not
dependent on each other for survival. In the yucca plant yucca moth interaction, the
yucca moth provides essential cross pollination services to the yucca plant, and the
yucca plant provides a predator free location for the yucca moth to lay its eggs, as
well as providing nutrition for the larvae in the form of some of its seeds (Moisett,
n.d.). Since the interaction between these two organisms is necessary for the survival
of their species, it is called an obligate mutualism (Lunau, 2004). The relationship
between the yucca plants and yucca moths serves as the theme for the remainder of
this paper.
Objectives
To discuss the widely accepted hypothesis for the evolutionary mechanism behind the
yucca plant yucca moth relationship.
To discuss the pre existing adaptations required by these organisms for the facilitation

Breast Implant Surgery
According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, over 5 to 10 million
women universally have breast implants. These medical devices aid in the
enhancement of breast reconstruction after mastectomy procedures, correction of a
hereditary irregularity, or cosmetic purposes. Most commonly known, implants are
constructed of a filler, typically saline or silicone gel, and a silicone outer shell, to
secure the shape of the insert. While this procedure is widely popular and has many
benefits psychologically and physically, the first variations of implants possessed
health risks and did not meet all routine standards of the 1976 Medical Device
Amendments to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. That being said, no

effort and accuracy has been put into the process over the last few decades, of

Sea Otters Summary
The article states that environmental pollution is the main reason of declining the
population of sea otters and provides three reasons of support. The lecture, on the
other hand, not only does refute the article s assessments, but also it vehemently
asserts that predators attack play an important role in the reduction of sea otter
population on account of the reasons which will be widely elaborated hereunder.
First, the article states that sources of pollutions such as oil rigs and other chemical
substances along the Alaskan coast may pose a major threat to the sea otters
existence. In contrast, the lecture refutes this point by stating that there is not solid
evidence that prove the relation between sea otters death and chemical infection in
this area. It adds that since any... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It attributes this comprehensive reduction to the pollution rather than predators. On
the other hand, the lecture counters to this point by stating that human hunters
cause the diet of large predators such as orcas to change. Orcas used to hunt large
preys such as whales, but human hunting make the whales migrate to other
locations, As a result of this, recently sea mammals like seals and sea lions are
prone to be hunted by orcas and that s why the population of other species has
declined in this area. Third, the reading avers that uneven pattern of sea otters
population is a clear evidence of pollution effect on their lives. However, the lecture
supports a contradictory view as compared to that presented in the reading; it
contends that the reduction has taken place in especial locations. Orcas are large
predators so they cannot access to the locations where are shallow and rocky. Also,
the reduction is tangible in deep locations, not the shallow ones. Hence, it is more
probable that the reduction may be caused by large predators, instead of

Essay on Multi-Agents for Decision Support Systems in...
Abstract:
With the advent of e systems; business and consumers have access to a plethora of
information which makes the decision making process more complex. The
overwhelming information flow makes it extremely difficult for decision makers to
analyze the available data and make precise decisions. Under such an information
intensive online environment, businesses need to make real time intelligent decisions
in order to stay economically and commercially viable. Multi agent systems have the
inherent ability to facilitate provision of an adequate decision support mechanism in
an e business setting. These multi agent decision support systems are of particular
assistance in processing large amounts of data, filtering out irrelevant ... Show more

Computer systems that have the inherent capacity to take decisions when required
are referred to as agents. These systems are designed to make intelligent choices
according to the situation. These agents when operate in a rapidly changing
environment where real time decision making is required are known as intelligent
agents. Typical examples of a multi agent systeminclude a computer program that
would perform an internet search for a typical query. The agent would synthesize the
relevant information from various web sources and return a document that would
carry relevant information based on our query (Weiss, 1999). Based on the prelude,
we may define an agent as An autonomous, reactive, pro active computer system,
typically with a central locus of control that is at least able to communicate with other
agents via some kind of communication language (Weiss, 1999)
1.2 Decision Support Systems and Web Based DSS
Decision support systems on the other hand have been an important addition to the
computerized support in various activities particularly with respect to providing a
solution to managerial problems. Computerized decision support is now being widely
employed in multi varied disciplines such as research support, disaster management,
medical support and supply chain management etc. After the

How Did Stanislavski Contribute To Theatre
Konstantin Stanislavski was a Russian theatre practitioner born to a wealthy
manufacturer which granted much financial backing for his amateur theatre
endeavors. Born in 1863 in Moscow, Russia, Konstantin started working in theatre as
a teen, and later became an acclaimed thespian and director of stage productions. He
was known for being an outstanding character actorand the many productions he
directed. His career work would allow him to be seen as the most influential person in
Russian theatre. Over a time span of 40 years he was involved in many facets of the
performing arts which ranged from producing and directing plays to analyzing and
understanding the meaning of acting. Konstantin performed and directed until the
age of 33. Stanislavski earned international recognition during his lifetime for all of
his contributions to the acting genre. However, in the United States and beyond, his
legacy lives on today and is demonstrated by some of the greatest performers of the

In 1922, he staged Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky at the Bolshoi
Opera Studio which was accredited as a major reform in opera. Stanislavski made
tremendous contribution in not only stage theatre, but also through excellent
performance at the opera, sparked what may be termed as a revolution in opera at
the time. He stopped his theatre career when he co founded Moscow Art Theatre.
When Konstantin performed he used his own technique, the Stanislavski Method .
During the Moscow Art Theatre s early years, Stanislavski worked on a guiding
structure for actors to consistently have good performances. He believed that actors
needed to have real emotion when acting and, to do so, they could draw upon
feelings they d experienced in their own lives. The Moscow Art Theatre had a world

July Act Of Modesty
In life acts of modesty and kindness go a long way in the eyes of society, as they
are influential for the world s younger generations. This is why for July s act of
kindness I performed an admirable act in order to possibly influence the others
around me to do the same. This type of considerate act is what makes our world
prosper through the bad and reminisce in the good by showing how people should
treat one another. Since I am a counselor in training at a camp in Long Island, I am
responsible for watching over a group of children that are between the ages of ten
and twelve years old. Of course at this age in a young childs life, the children are like
sponges in the way in which they absorb information from others around them. This

The preponderance of the evidence is a standard of evidence, or standard of proof,

Why is ADR become so popular in business disputes? Be sure to explain the major
types of ADR and the pros and cons of ADR versus traditional judicial resolution to
civil disputes.
A common method of dispute resolution that avoids many of the challenges
associated with litigation is alternative dispute resolution. Alternative dispute
resolution (ADR) is a term that encompasses many different methods of dispute
resolution other than litigation. ADR involves resolving disputes outside of the
judicial process, though the judiciary can require parties to participate in specific
types of ADR, such as arbitration, for some types of conflicts. Moreover, some ADR
methods vest power to resolve the dispute in a neutral party, while other strategies
vest that power in the parties themselves.
In a negotiation, there is no neutral party charged with ensuring that rules are
followed, that the negotiation strategy is fair, or that the overall outcome is sound.
Moreover, any party can walk away whenever it wishes. There is no guarantee of
resolution through this method. The result may not be win win or win lose, but no
resolution at all. Also, generally speaking, attorneys are not involved in many
negotiations. This last point may be seen as a drawback or a benefit, depending on
the circumstances of the

drastic changes we have to go through to mature. Loss of innocence and maturing

Importance Of The First Amendment
The first 10 amendments of the constitution are called the bill of rights. The bill of
rights was created by James Madison. The Bill of Rights were ratified by every
state on December 15, 1791. The bill of rights limits government power so it does
not become a tyrant. The Bill of Rights also prevents the government from restricting
some things like freedom of the press. The Bill of Rights gives U.S. Citizens many
freedoms. The first amendment of the constitution is important because it protects
freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of the press. The first
amendment of the constitution is important because it protects freedom of speech.
The first amendment gives you the right to speak whatever you want. the right of
people to express their opinions publicly without governmental interference, subject
to the laws against libel, incitement to violence or rebellion, etc. (Freedom of
Speech, Dictionary.com). You can really hurt people s feeling when using certain
words so there is a done side to the freedom of speech. Although you can hurt people
the first amendment states abridging the freedom of speech (Constitute, cp.org). This
means you can say whatever you want and not having freedom of speech we could
not even talk bad about some things. You can also judge the government without
getting arrested. To use certain offensive words and phrases to convey political
messages. (What Does Free Speech Mean, www.uscourts.gov). The amendment

Killing Human Embryos for Research Essay
Recent developments highlight a point made by opponents of embryonic stem cell
research for years: Once our consciences are numbed to the moral wrong of using
so called spare human embryos for research, our society will move on to even more
egregious abuses. The Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine in Virginia has
announced that it is using donated eggs and sperm to create human embryos solely to
destroy them for stem cellresearch.( S. Stolberg, Scientists Create Scores of
Embryos to Harvest Cells, The New York Times, July 11, 2001 at A1.) Moreover,
Advanced Cell Technology (ACT) in Massachusetts has announced it is trying to
make human embryos by somatic cell nuclear transfer (cloning) for the same purpose.

It is illegal because it violates an appropriations rider (the Dickey amendment) passed
every year since 1995 by Congress. That provision forbids funding research in which
human embryos (whether initially created for research purposes or not) are harmed
or destroyed outside the womb.(1) National Institutes of Health guidelines approved
by the Clinton Administration nonetheless give researchers detailed instructions on
how to obtain human embryos for destructive cell harvesting, if they wish to qualify
for federal grants in human pluripotent stem cell research. (2) Clearly, obtaining and
destroying embryos is an integral part of this project, even if the specific act of
destroying embryos does not directly receive federal funds. By implementing these
guidelines, the federal government would encourage researchers to conduct
destructive embryo experiments that are punishable as felonies in some states.(3)
This proposal is immoral because it violates a central tenet of all civilized codes on
human experimentation beginning with the Nuremberg Code: It approves doing
deadly harm to a member of the human species solely for the sake of potential
benefit to others. The embryos to be destroyed by researchers in this campaign are
at the same stage of development as embryos in the womb who have been protected
as human subjects in federally funded research since 1975.(4) President Clinton s

  • 1. Child Obesity Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of child obesity is no easy task, as it demands a careful balance of sensitivity, research, and the ability to convey complex information in a comprehensible manner. The difficulty lies not only in presenting the alarming statistics and health implications but also in addressing the multifaceted causes and potential solutions. It requires a nuanced exploration of socio-economic factors, cultural influences, parental roles, and the impact of modern lifestyles on children's health. The competitive change that will occur is that the reciprocal carriers will be offered beyond rights so they can serve any of our destinations. This right will include carriage of passengers from one domestic city to another. The offer of beyond rights, of course, will be subject to our gaining similar rights in the corresponding international market. In my opinion, we have one of two ways to go. • 7. Appointment Scheduling Paper Outpatient clinic is a health care facility where patients are given treatment on same day instead of hospitalizing them. Most clinics are staffed by Primary care providers (PCPs) that are first point of contact between patients and health systems. PCPs provide the majority of care, the patient receive during lifetime. Thus, it is essential for outpatient clinics to achieve higher patient satisfaction and provide quality care. Appointment scheduling system used in clinic lie at intersection of efficiency and timely access. It have greater impact on generating smooth flow of patients and resource utilization. A good appointment scheduling system can greatly improve patient satisfaction by reducing waiting time and assuring timely access to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research by Alaeddini, Kai Yang and Reddy (2011) have attempted to predict the no show probability of individual patient based on available historical data of clinic. In research, they have used analytical technique like logistics regression to predict no show probability of patient with data of over 3 years. Other studies have focused on open access appointment scheduling. The technique is found to be effective in reducing patient waiting time and appointment lead time. It allows patient to book appointment just before 1 or 2 days. BY considering all problems, it can be concluded that it is challenging to build outpatient appointment scheduling system with capability to handle every problem and work well under all circumstances. Another approach adapted in recent year is overlapping appointment scheduling . Anderson , Zheng, Sang Won Yoon , Khasawneh (2014) have developed Overlapping Appointment Scheduling (OLAS) model that minimizes patient waiting time and doctor idle time in outpatient clinic. The aim of the research is to find the optimal overlap period between two consecutive scheduled appointment. In research, they have proposed an analytical model with objective of minimizing total cost of patient waiting time, doctor idle time and overtime. Service time is assumed to follow a uniform distribution with slot length as

Alcohol restricts the flow of blood to the brain, I blurted out, cutting my friend off in mid sentence. What does that have to do with anything? he asked, perturbed at my outburst. I could hear static as he checked one of the walkie talkies. That s why some of the people we encountered turned at an incredibly slow rate, I explained, almost having to stop the vehicle in my eureka moment. What do you mean? Dean asked clearly not following. The birds stirring woke us with their songs. If you didn t think about the woman in the bathroom, you would think this area was completely untouched. Everyone used the bathroom one last time and we ate and drank a little before resuming our journey. The day was cooler, a cold front from the north having followed the storm. It left the air crisp and pure feeling. As I started up the military vehicle, I could see Dean s telltale mark on the woman s restroom door. Dead inside. Not a zombie, just dead, written in permanent marker. Hopefully, his little guide would save someone the shock that the girls

  • 11. Investigating The Absorption And Release Of Pah And Oc In practice, one of the most widely used polymers is PDMS because it is a material that has good partitioning properties such as low mass transfer resistance for hydrophobic and nonpolar compounds (Mayer et al. 6148) and recently there has been many studies investigating PDMS absorptive properties, however, only a few have focused on the ability of PDMS to release absorbed chemicals into water. In general, experiments have proven that PDMS can be used to calculate the equilibrium concentrations of many different compounds dissolved in water once the concentrations of these analytes absorbed in the pellets are determined. Since PDMS is not affected by the nature of the matrices or by exposure to hydrophilic chemicals, it can be used for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assuming that the process exhibit a labguimir equilibrium distribution, the thermodynamic behavior of the partitioning process can be modeled by using a first order one compartment equation (Vrana et al. 845). Therefore, a mathematical equation that relates the concentration of analyte absorbed in the PDMS pellets as a function of uptake or release rate constants k, equilibrium concentration of the compounds in the polymer and the t95% can be used (Smith, Oostingh, and Mayer 55). T95% is the time to reach 95% of the maximum measure concentration or steady state (Smith, Oostingh, and Mayer 55), so at t95% the concentration of analyte at time t is 0.95 of the equilibrium concentration (Ct = 0.95Ceq) (Brown and A. 4097). • 12. The Film Analysis Of The Movie Mementos Mementos the backwards version of a masterpiece In the movie mementos It illustrates an investigator for an insurance agency who lost his memory and in an interesting yet confusing and frustrating way shows him solving his wife s murder. It takes an interesting approach to storytelling by putting the viewer in as much of a confused state as much as the main characterhimself. Which leads to the viewer of the movie to become somewhat lost in the vagueness of it all.mementos is a movie that has succumb to failure due the fact that the story was too confusing, Needless information and this style of storytellingsimply does not function . To begin the story it started off with the death of who would later become a main character when it shows him in a scene later on it sends the viewer into confusion most would probably assume their version of the movie is messed up. This initial confusion with nothing to address it but a black and white short already causes disinterest in the movie.then as you begin to understand things the movie makes you feel as though you are watching the same thing which makes it far more difficult to notice smaller points in the movie the must be picked up. Then they introduce someone completely different natalie who acts sometimes acts as though they are close and other times fools with his emotions which gives us another uncertainty, who is this? We ask ourselves how long has she known him? Movies can be unbearable and unwatchable when they offer up

In Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants, one of the main characters asks the other That s all we do isn t it look at things and try new drinks? (Hemingway 476). In Hemingway s novel, The Sun Also Rises, the characters could also claim that this was their lives. At any point in the story they are essentially doing nothing but looking at things and trying new drinks. Critics are right to say that the novel presents motion that goes nowhere and that it is a novel of stasis and despair. The characters in The Sun Also Risesoften go to new places, such as new bars with friends, or even to foreign countries, but they never seem to do anything new. The only thing that changes about their lives is the setting. Even when Jake was with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brett is the most obvious example of this, when she is in the cab at the beginning of the novel and says to Jake, Oh, darling, I ve been so miserable (32). No matter what she does she never seems truly happy. She can get distracted from her sadness, but she does not escape it. This is shown when she is at the club with Jake and the Count, and she says It s all gone... I don t know, I just feel terribly (70). Brett goes out and parties and drinks with the thought that it could make her happy, but she still feels awful. And she makes the people around her feel bad as well. For example, Cohn, despite being a boxer, was never one to fight people, but after he had an affair with Brett, he got into a fight with Jake, Mike, and Pedro. When he realizes what he has done he is ashamed of himself, saying, Please don t remember it. I was crazy (197). He even asks all the people he hurt to shake hands afterward, as sort of a repentance. Cohn is obviously in despair, partly because he was in love with Brett and losing her to all these other men, but also because he knows that his jealousy is turning him into something he is
  • 14. Ethics of the Nuremberg Code Essay From 1946 to 1947, the Nuremberg War Crime Trials took place, withfifteen of twenty three German physicians and research scientist physicians found guilty of criminal human experimentation projects. The trial court attempted to establish a set of principles of human experimentation that could serve as a code of research ethics. The result was the Nuremberg Code, which attempted to provide a natural law based set of universal ethical principles.Looking beyond the Nuremberg Code and applying it to modern medical researchethics, there are many challenges that it poses. Many have argued that the Code tries to provide for all unforeseen events, which restricts the researcher by requiring him to anticipate every situation, demanding the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence, a proxy was given to those who did not have legal capacity allowing researchers to expand their population for experimentation. The term informed has also been criticized because sometimes even the researcher is not aware of the risks associated with the experiment or they are too technical for the subject to understand. Thus scientists have argued that only adequate information should be released to the patient and a full understanding is not necessary. In this clause, responsibilities are placed on the individual who is initiating, directing, or engaging the experiment but there is no place for the researcher to be reviewed for his actions. The scientist is in full control of making any necessary ethical deliberations. The Declaration of Helsinki added a clause stating experimental protocols should be transmitted to a specially appointed independent committee for consideration and comments. The third principle of the Code addresses the justification of the performance of the experiment based on previous studies done on animals. This may be challenged because the researcher cannot always guarantee success of the experiment even though it has been successful on animals or in previous studies. Uncertainties in the experiment will always be present. The Declaration of Helsinki does not

As the healthcare changed in the 1990s, Mayo began to approach quality with increasing rigor, measuring more thoroughly the results of its efforts. Though the organizational priority for Mayo was improvement and transformation, the approach was patient centric which resulted in good financial outcomes. However, Mayo wanted to provide hope for the patients and help staff provide excellence in all they do. Mayo s strategic advantage of being the best of best was tested in 1999, the institute of Medicine(IOM) issued a pivotal report which challenged the healthcare providers to reduce the preventable medical errors by 50% over the following five
  • 16. Essay On Ethnicity And Multiculturalism The meaning of music and its value has evolved over the years of its birth. In the present world, music is now interpreted and taken as one can imagine it. The idea and worth of music to an individual or group can mean anything to them. There is no consistent meaning of music because anyone can create their own meaning rather than following another s. Ethnicity on the other hand has a solid definition. From the Oxford Concise Dictionary of Sociology, Ethnicity defines individuals who consider themselves, or are considered by others, to share common characteristics which differentiate them from the other collectives in a society within which they develop distinct cultural behavior. I bring this up because I grew up in an environment that is filled to the brim with different cultures and backgrounds, but the music that the children learn only represents one group. I feel like the town s music program could have been so much more but it fell stuck to traditions. By doing this, children immediately become uninterested in music and dislike taking music classes and only a handful of children stay within the program. Their only reason to take the class is to fill the requirement then afterwards never take a music class again. In the end, the students have more trouble finding their own identity, ethnically and musically. They had to explore the music for themselves and find what they like. I believe it is important to showcase all of the distinct genres and styles of music in a music classroom because they are all important to whoever is listening and it helps show the students that they should be proud of what they identify themselves as. It is disappointing to see such a great and well funded music program such as South Brunswick Township to fall under traditions and norms, and not further explore other music that can help students find themselves. It is vital to show children different composers and artists that are like them and are more invested into and better represent them
  • 17. Guitar Recital Essay Guitar Recital This project was interesting to me because I really don t take the time to listen to different types of music like classical guitar. This was my first time listening to this type of music and it was pretty good. It showed me that there are more than a few types of music out there. The CD I chose was the 2013 Guitar Recital by Philip Hemmo. The tracks that where on it are Ciaconna, Introduction et Polonaise, Adagio, Caprice, Danza Mora, Julia Florida and Sevillana. My favorite song was Adagio which homage to J. S. Bach. It was calm and was played a perfect speed. It slowed down and sped up through the whole song. Also the volume of the guitar was quit and loud threw the different parts of the song. It is also a very long song

Du Maurier tells the story of a nameless woman who becomes the second wife of Mr. Maxim De Winter. They live at Manderley along with the servants of the estate. The main character is faced with the fact the Maxim s first wife Rebecca, is idolized into something of the perfect wife from the very beginning. Analysis Of Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, And Family Life Summary: Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, and Family Life Annette Lareau, author of Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, and Family Life, revealed her research findings in this enlightening text featuring twelve socially, economically, and culturally diverse families having a child nine to ten years of age respectively in their nuclear familyunit. These families were garnered from the author s coinciding study comprised of eighty eight children. Lareau, along with her research assistants, visited each family approximately twenty times. Visits included time spent within the home, as well as family events, school functions, doctor s visits, structured activities, shopping trips, and church services. Wide ranging contexts allowed researchers a unique opportunity to observe and record a multiplicity of interactions within each family unit. Exploring the nuances of race and social position beginning in childhood and culminating in adulthood Lareau explores different approaches exercised by parents in raising children. Separating families into three categories, including: middle class, working class, and poor, the author began her study. Attempting to answer the question, What is the outcome of these different philosophies and approaches to child rearing? Lareau discovers that the answer was found in the transmission of differential advantages (Lareau 2011:5). Accordingly, these advantages equip children with tools to navigate through life progressively or prohibitively respective to the individual instruction obtained in childhood. In unearthing these discoveries, the author employed the use of ethnography through naturalistic observation utilizing field notes and taped recordings of interviews with family members. Poor and working class parents were found to hold to an accomplishment of natural growth parental philosophy. Natural growth promotes a clear separation between children and adults, employs the use of directives, places little emphasis on the importance of verbal communication and eye contact, allows children greater independence, and promotes deference and submissiveness to adults. Inspiring and positive qualities can be found in children raised in homes exercising this perspective, qualities such

This could easily have had a demoralizing effect on the mental state of the control group and an encouraging effect on the experimental group, which would decrease the accuracy and validity of her findings as other factors beside the independent variable could have affected the dependent variable. This could have created a sense of expectancy in the experimental group and compelled them to try harder, while the control group might have assumed they weren t expected to do well and as a result not strive enough to succeed. Abstract Genetic Algorithm (GA) is a stochastic randomized blind search and optimization technique based on evolutionary computing that has already been proved to be robust and effective from its outcome in solving problems from variety of application domains. Clustering is a vital technique to extract meaningful and hidden information from the datasets. Clustering techniques have a broad field of application including bioinformatics, image processing and data mining. In order to the find the close association between the densities of data points, in the given dataset of pixels of an image, clustering provides an easy analysis and proper validation. In this paper, we propose an evolutionary computing based approach for unsupervised image clustering using elitist GA (EGA) a efficient variant of GA that segments an image into its constituent parts automatically. The aim of this algorithm is to produce precise segmentation of images using intensity information along with their neighbourhood relationships. Experimental results from simulation study reveal that the algorithm generates good quality segmented image. Even more interesting was the study did not support the idea that good treatment behavior, as in positive or appropriate behavior in group sessions, good homework assignments, and positive ratings of motivation, could be associated with a less of a chance for recidivism. They gave two possible reasons for this finding. Sex offenders, by the very nature of their criminal behavior, are masters of manipulation and exploitation. These individuals can exhibit behavior that contributes to favorable assessments. The second possible reason is these skills are learned, or enhanced, in the treatment setting. Data from a program evaluation by Quinsey et al in 1998 is consistent with this interpretation. They hypothesized that it was due to exposure to sexually deviant material or by learning about others modi operandi. A more recent study, published in the same journal, by Looman et al in 2000 suggests the opposite. Of the released sex offenders they studied they found a 23.6 percent recidivism rate for those treated while a 51.7 percent rate for the untreated group. They also conducted an analysis separately on the outcome for men who had previous sexual convictions. Those with no previous sexual offense convictions had a 20.9 percent recidivism rate of the treated men compared to 42.9 percent of the untreated men. Of

Many students will say that having a curfew should be required because teenagers are walking the street and could get kidnapped, teenagers would be at a higher risk of having an accident behind the wheel while driving, and it gives teenagers the privilege to learn responsibilities. There are many reasons why teenagers should have a curfew. There is many nights you will see kids or teens walking the streets at night. Would you let your child walk around at night? Teens shouldn t be out late at night due to safety. Having your teen rome the streets at night could put them at a risk of danger. At any time during the night they could be taken by a stranger. There are enough crazy people out there that wouldn t mind taking your child from you. Someone could easily pick the kid up off the street without anyone knowing. Your child without any parental supervision walking the streets is a great opportunity for anyone to snatch them up. Allowing your child to walk the streets at night could possibly put them at risk of getting hit by a vehicle too. Drivers at night don t always see what is ahead of them. Just simply walking down the road could be the last time you saw your kid. Do us all a favor and get your child in by curfew. Most teens these days are wild and out of hand. They go out partying, do drugs, and go to places they really shouldn t be. Teens will lie to their own parents about what they are doing or where they are just to continue. The science includes aspects of psychopathologic study in its evaluation of individuals sexual identities, attained by observing which sexual acts an individual engages in and what his or her objects of sexual desire are. This science of sexology matured into its esteemed area of study in three stages, which span the late nineteenth century through the late twenty first century. Preceded by an era of largely constrictive and suppressive sexual culture, the initial phase and of sexology arose in Germany and her surrounding countries from the 1860s through 1890s. Yucca Plants And Yucca Moths Yucca Plants and Yucca Moths: A Coevolutionary Point of View Petra Markova 300214198 BIOL 3700: Evolution Maxence Salomon Introduction According to Thompson (1994), coevolution is defined as the reciprocal evolutionary change in interacting species . This occurs when one species has a significant effect on the survival or reproductive success of another species and vice versa, leading to the gradual evolution of both species. It is important to study this topic, as it is possible that the evolution of a majority of the world s life forms was affected by the coevolution occurring between plants and insects (Smith et al., 2009). It is generally accepted that there are three forms in which coevolution can take place ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Coevolution in this scenario occurs by selection for those organisms from both taxa which possess trait which allow them to take the best advantage of this mutualism relative to their conspecifics. An example of this relationship is the plant pollinator interaction between yucca plants and yucca moths. While the relationship between yucca plants (Family Agavaceae) and yucca moths (Genus Tegeticula and Parategeticula) can be defined as mutualistic, it is more than an ordinary mutualism (Sheppard and Oliver, 2002). In a generic mutualistic relationship, both organisms gain fitness benefits from the interaction, but are not dependent on each other for survival. In the yucca plant yucca moth interaction, the yucca moth provides essential cross pollination services to the yucca plant, and the yucca plant provides a predator free location for the yucca moth to lay its eggs, as well as providing nutrition for the larvae in the form of some of its seeds (Moisett, n.d.). Since the interaction between these two organisms is necessary for the survival of their species, it is called an obligate mutualism (Lunau, 2004). The relationship between the yucca plants and yucca moths serves as the theme for the remainder of this paper. Objectives To discuss the widely accepted hypothesis for the evolutionary mechanism behind the yucca plant yucca moth relationship. To discuss the pre existing adaptations required by these organisms for the facilitation of

The lecture, on the other hand, not only does refute the article s assessments, but also it vehemently asserts that predators attack play an important role in the reduction of sea otter population on account of the reasons which will be widely elaborated hereunder. First, the article states that sources of pollutions such as oil rigs and other chemical substances along the Alaskan coast may pose a major threat to the sea otters existence. In contrast, the lecture refutes this point by stating that there is not solid evidence that prove the relation between sea otters death and chemical infection in this area. It adds that since any... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It attributes this comprehensive reduction to the pollution rather than predators. On the other hand, the lecture counters to this point by stating that human hunters cause the diet of large predators such as orcas to change. Orcas used to hunt large preys such as whales, but human hunting make the whales migrate to other locations, As a result of this, recently sea mammals like seals and sea lions are prone to be hunted by orcas and that s why the population of other species has declined in this area. Third, the reading avers that uneven pattern of sea otters population is a clear evidence of pollution effect on their lives. However, the lecture supports a contradictory view as compared to that presented in the reading; it contends that the reduction has taken place in especial locations. Orcas are large predators so they cannot access to the locations where are shallow and rocky. Also, the reduction is tangible in deep locations, not the shallow ones. Hence, it is more probable that the reduction may be caused by large predators, instead of

That provision forbids funding research in which human embryos (whether initially created for research purposes or not) are harmed or destroyed outside the womb.(1) National Institutes of Health guidelines approved by the Clinton Administration nonetheless give researchers detailed instructions on how to obtain human embryos for destructive cell harvesting, if they wish to qualify for federal grants in human pluripotent stem cell research. (2) Clearly, obtaining and destroying embryos is an integral part of this project, even if the specific act of destroying embryos does not directly receive federal funds. By implementing these guidelines, the federal government would encourage researchers to conduct destructive embryo experiments that are punishable as felonies in some states.(3) This proposal is immoral because it violates a central tenet of all civilized codes on human experimentation beginning with the Nuremberg Code: It approves doing deadly harm to a member of the human species solely for the sake of potential benefit to others. The embryos to be destroyed by researchers in this campaign are at the same stage of development as embryos in the womb who have been protected as human subjects in federally funded research since 1975.(4) President Clinton s National Bioethics Advisory Commission (NBAC) and its 1994
