The Implementation Of Basel IIi
1On 20 May this year the Amendment to the Banks Act regulations ( Regulations ) in terms of
section 90 of the Banks Act, 1990 ( Banks Act ) were published in the government gazette and
will come into effect on 1 July 2016. A number of cosmetic changes have been made to the
Regulations but a few material changes will be highlighted in this alert. 2Subsequent to the
implementation of Basel III in South Africa on 1 January 2013, the Basel Committee on
Banking Supervision ( BCBS ) issued revised requirements in respect of a wide range of matters
which necessitated amendments to our regulations. The Regulations now cater for the changes to
capital disclosure requirements, changes to the Liquidity Coverage Ratio ( LCR ), requirements
related to intraday liquidity management and public disclosure requirements related to the LCR.
3Regulation 38(16) was amended to incorporate South African Reserve Bank ( SARB )
Directive 05/2014 which dealt with obtaining the Registrar of Banks consent before reducing
qualifying capital and reserve funds. Regulation 38(5)(a)(i)(K) which deals with deductions
which need to be made from a bank s common equity tier 1 capital and reserve funds has been
amended to include investment in a foreign branch in order to clarify the treatment of capital
invested in foreign branches. 4Regulation 38(17) dealing with the calculation of a banks LCR has
been substituted by a new Regulation 38(15) which incorporates the latest Basel III framework as

Why Do People Learn English As A Foreign Language Essay
Introduction
Nowadays English has become one of the most used languages all around the world, with this, the
necessity of learning English as a foreign language is one that hundreds of people all around the
world have. All these people have different reasons to learn the language and different learning
styles. This essay will try to explain through the use of research why and how people learn English
as a foreign language.
Students Background
This essay will try to explain through the use of research why and how Saul Palafox Reyes learns
English as a foreign language. SaГєl is a 20 year old engineering student who lives with his parents
and sister. SaГєlВґs first language is Spanish, he and his sister started with English classes when ...

According to the book Teaching English as a Foreign Language, The Communicative approach
advocates that language, first and foremost, as a system for communication .
The communicative approach is based on the idea that learning language successfully comes
through having to communicate real meaning. When learners are involved in real communication,
their natural strategies for language acquisition will be used, and this will allow them to learn to
use the language (Communicative Approach, 2006) .
The questionnaire and interview showed that SaГєl needs to focus on his listening and speaking
abilities, his writing and reading skills are good but also need some work to be polished.
Since he stopped his English classes a couple of years ago SaГєl has lost any kind of speaking and
listening practice and this has created a sense of insecurity in him getting him to think he cannot
speak English at all. His reading and comprehension skills are not a difficult issue since he barely
had any trouble when answering the questionnaire, except form a couple of words which he asked
about the meaning answering the questionnaire was easy for

The inhabitants of Africa have sparked my curiosity with their unusual actions and supposed
incredulity towards our benevolent race. As such I have monitored the behaviour and actions of the
savage inhabitants to understand ways in which to subdue their barbaric nature, that threatens the
Modern way of life. Many would argue that these people remain devoid of structure, however our
previous conceptions were far from the truth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have evolved in its primitive regions and are well suited to the hot and dangerous country,
however, this evolutionary process follows that of the local wildlife where higher thought has not
been made evident in these people as they engage in primitive rituals in which they murder each
other as well as their children. One cannot expect them to reach the level of sophistication that the
Western man has obtained.
Despite the often savage and barbaric behaviour of the primitive, I believe that they can be broken
into their rightful roles. In the words of Thomas More, You wouldn t abandon a ship in a storm just
because you couldn t control the winds, from the aptly named book Utopia.
The limitless power of holding such a position in the eyes of these gullible yet potentially useful
creatures if used in a manner befitting of their position. These people hold the key to establishing
sophisticated civilization for everybody around the globe and allow the human race to transcend
from these base forms. These people present themselves in a manner as willing to accept the
perception of them as barbaric, most likely due to their unyielding connection with the land and the
wildlife. To remove their land and rituals, would be to remove an amount of meaning from their
supposedly dull lives. Since occupying Africa I have discovered that they have the potential to work
in a symbiotic relationship with society in that they would perform mundane tasks

Valleyfair
Come on, guys, I yelled at my family, which consists of my mom Madonna, my father John, and
my two sisters Alissa and Kara, as I ran frantically across the jam packed parking lot to the opening
gate that led to a world of adventure. As wide as the world around, my eyes pierced at the doorway
to a world of fun. Families, of all sizes, were enjoying all the possibilities of fun. Hearing laughter
and frightening screams, warned me of the experience waiting for me within the doorway to
everlasting amazement. The sweet baked smell of funnel cakes swarmed into the fresh morning
air. Before I knew it, my family and I were ready to enter Valleyfair, an amusement park that offers

Here we go, my father said with excitement.
At the beginning of the blue colored track, there was a sharp turn. As soon as all of the carts
complete the turn, the fun would begin because we would start to climb the 100 foot drop off.
Clickity clack, clickity clack, the chains sang as they wheeled the carts up the steep drop off.
Before I knew it, our cart, the first cart, was at the top of the 100 foot drop off. I could see
everything from there. The swirling black Octopus ride was t0 the right of us, the gigantic Ferris
Wheel twirled around and around to the left of us, and in front of us the old wooden roller coaster,
High Roller, roared as the carts sped around the tracks.
Stopping me from checking out the world before me, the roller coaster dropped down the steep

Procedural Rhetoric
Procedural Rhetoric and Video Games
Kyle
University Affiliation
5th June 2018
When one is playing a video game, they are never focused on the composition of the game but on
the content. Procedural rhetoric concept explains how people learn through the composition of
rules and processes. It argues that games can be used to make a strong claim on how the world
works. This is not done through the conventional means of words or visuals but through some
processes and models. It further argues that video games have a unique persuasive power that goes
beyond other forms of computational persuasion. Not only can video games support existing social
and cultural positions, but they can also disrupt and change those positions, leading to ... Show more

Additionally, the growing culture of societal impatience is like an addiction, it makes people
crave more and more, and they want it now and right now. Ian Bogost article The Rhetoric of
video games describes a situation where players unknowingly face the dilemma of wanting more
and more. The argument is that for instance, if someone wants a bigger house, meaning an
increase in mortgage, it has to be complemented by buying more other goods to fill the extra
space hence a vicious cycle (Bogost, 2008). The same analogy is used by business models of
freemium games to complement procedural rhetoric to foster an impatient society. Freemium
models business offers certain aspects of the games free, while other parts have to be paid for.
When a player engages in a freemium game, it will reach a point that the player cannot move to the
next process before purchasing the whole game. Additionally, the players would use every other
means necessary to achieve their goals. Some of these means are not right and thus would bring

Prostate Carcinoma Essay
INTRODUCTION
Prostate cancer is the second most frequently diagnosed cancer and the sixth leading cause of
cancer death in males. Incidence rates vary more than 25 fold worldwide, with the highest rates in
the developed countries this may be due to the widespread use of prostate specific antigen testing
and subsequent prostate biopsy in these regions [1]. Overall, the complex morphology, histologic
heterogeneity, and the early signs of high malignant potential preclude a straightforward assessment
of the metastatic potential of localized prostate carcinoma and show the requirement for extra
clinical and pathologic tests for the evaluation of prostate carcinoma stage and clinical behavior[2]
Distant spread of primary malignant cells to local and distant sites was explained by several
models. Cumulative research shows a pivotal role of tumor microenvironment in the process of
malignant cell dissemination. This role occurs through angiogenesis and epithelial stromal
interactions, via the paracrine secretion of growth factors by stromal cells, which induce an
epithelial mesenchymal transition in neighboring epithelial cells. This result in the increased
migration of epithelial cells [3]. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Advantages Of Creative Accounting
Amat, Blake Dowds (1999) perceived the various methods of creative accounting can be
considered to fall in four categories:
I There are different options to choose accounting methods sometimes like in many countries for
example; a company is allowed to choose between a policy of writing off Research and
Development expenditure as it occurs and amortizing it over the life of the related project. A
company can therefore choose that accounting will give them preferred image.
II. Some entries in accounting involve an unavoidable degree of estimation, judgment and
prediction. In some cases for example, in estimating life of an asset for calculating depreciation,
these estimates are normally made inside the business and the creative accountant ... Show more

In order to have a high EPS, managers should either increase the earnings or decrease the number
of shares. Decreasing the number of shares is hard task as usually when a firm needs extra
investment, it will deliver new shares for the new creditors. Thus the easiest way to increase the

certain revenues or expenses, and second by presenting an item before or after the profits used to

The Grass By Cather Summary
When Cather discusses grass she gets very detailed. Everywhere, as far as the eye could reach,
there was nothing but rough, shaggy, red, grass most of it as tall as I. North of the house, inside
the ploughed fire breaks , grew a thick set strip of box elder trees, low and bushy, their leaves
already turning yellow. This hedge was nearly a quarter of a mile long, but I had to look very
hard to see it at all. The little trees were insignificant against the grass. It seemed as if the grass
were about to run over them, and over the plum patch behind the sod chicken house. As I looked
about me I felt that the grass was the country, as the water is the sea. The red of the grass made all
the great prairie the color of wine stains, or of certain

Heteronormativity Essay
Heteronormativity has not accepted the fact that there is no need to be a heterosexual couple to
engage in sexual or romantic activities or that there is no need to be born with the right genre.
This negation has had a negative impact in lives of people who identify themselves in a distinct
manner from the ones that are considered normal . One of the most important consequences that
this assumption can be found in mental health. An example of this was shown by Todd (as cited
by Wilchins, 1997) trans identity is not a natural fact. Rather, it is the political category we are
forced to occupy when we do certain things with our bodies. That so many of us try to take our
own lives, mutilate ourselves, or just succeed in dying quietly of shame, depression, or loneliness
is not an accident. We are supposed to feel isolated and desperate. Outcast. That is the whole point
of the system. Our feelings are not causes but effects. (p33)... Show more content on

However, there are some people who defend the idea that mental illnesses or problems related to
the mind are not merely delineated by how society treats you, but it is a correlation between
phenotypical and genotypical features potentiated by the context a person is born and the life
history of the last one.Even though this argument could be supported by scientific evidence, this
does not rest importance to the fact that heteronomativity has a huge influence on how a person
perceives himself and faces the world because of how this belief is tightly woven in society. To
conclude, one of the ways in which this standard affects people is by rejecting them causing further
problems because this makes people feel as outcasts and has an impact in their psychological

intrinsically linked to the state of the economy. At present, there are over 462 hotels in the country

There is a direct company customer contact based relationship. (Moores, 1986) This experience
helps hotels achieve distinction against competitors. But at the same time the communicated value
proposition of the brand has to be clear cut so that potential guests are able to identify the advantage
of a hotel in comparison to its competitors (Daun and Klinger, Delivering the message, 2006).Apart
from communication through words, pictures and logos should also be redesigned in order to make
an everlasting connection with the guest.
For hotel chains wanting to satisfy the needs of guests and beat the competition, then building a
psycho brand provides an opportunity which if realized, could do not only this but also defy the
test of time. (Mehta Gautam, December 17, 2003)
Perceptions of brands in the minds of the consumer are formed on the basis of the four main
functions of the brain thinking, sensation, intuition and feeling. Psycho branding is supported by
three concepts
Goodyear s Model of Brand Evolution: Brands act as extensions of the personality. Incorporation of
personal characteristics into the brand makes it more appealing to guests.
Moment of Identity: The modern guest tries to match her own identity with the identity she relates
to the brand.
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs: It is the driving force for choosing any brand, the one which

The typical structure of the cities in Brazil is characterized by segregation based on social classes

zones is the racism aspect. In Brazil, It has remained a critical aspect of separation, in terms of the

It can be then noted that a European tourist, a non citizen, who feels threatened by a black person
gets state security. The status is worrying considering that the taxpayers and the citizens normally
provide the state security.
The concept of black citizenship is demonstrated by the Berlin wall concept, an allegory of racial
apartheid in Bahia. Apartheid and the wall have similar roles in that apartheid enforces
separation between races, which mostly applies to the invidious structure and racial inequality.
Though the Brazil case is different from that of South Africa, it has a history that subtly divides
the nation into races. The nature of citizenship of the black community and the whites in Brazil
can be claimed to be different. Afro Brazilians are considered as the national subjects who are
required to adhere to the laws of the land. Specifically, black peoples are required to pay taxes,
register for cards and vote in elections. Moreover, black Brazilians are subjected to aggressive
policing characterized by intense surveillance. In Brazil, the blackness and citizenship have
occurred in numerous times but in a less explicit way . It has been conditional and shaky. In most
cases, the government officials intensely had to debate on the extent to which the black population
could be full citizens, but through hiding. Despite being legal subjects, they don t actually enjoy

The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein Meaning
The Giving Tree is a sentimental poem by Shel Silverstein. The main lesson of this poem revolves
around absolute selflessness, it s evident. However, despite this essential, meaningful teaching,
there are other underlying themes that are just as influential, if not more. These other lessons,
perhaps, are vital to a happy life. The Giving Treepreaches around ideas like: going barefoot, just
being there for someone, and that happiness is a place between too much and too little. The
relevancy of these life lessons are indescribable.
Firstly, going barefoot might be the way to walk. The meaning of this short phrase conveys that
the stress free life of a naive child running barefoot in the yard is something taken for granted.
People are too busy pushing kids into their future that they forget, sometimes childhood is what
they should be revisiting. The hardships of life is something only people with a certain maturity
can fully effect. Once there was a tree....and she loved a little boy. And everyday the boy would
come and he would gather her leaves and make them into crowns and play king of the forest. He
would climb up her trunk and swing from her branches and eat apples. And they would ... Show

What this quote conveys is that having too little is an evident struggle, financially, support, a
home, a loss is a loss. It s an emptiness that has yet to be filled. It is a place where genuine
happiness has a hard time taking place. However, throughout the poem, throughout the boy s life,
he keeps coming back to the tree asking for things. He picked her apples to receive money. He
took her branches to build himself a house. He cut her down to use her trunk to make himself a
boat. He had all these wonderful things expecting happiness as a result, but still came back to her.
Utter happiness is a great pair with contemptment. Not too much, but not too little. It took the boy

Equality s invention of electricity and the council of scholars rejection of it and in More , it is

The, And, By Stephen Krasner And John Ruggie s...
Many of the authors of the readings for this week seem to be writing past each other. While all of
these readings come from a 10 year time span and discuss multilateralism and/or sovereignty, there
are stark distinctions in who or what is being discussed as the referent object of international
relations or world order. This begs the question, can we read, for instance, Stephen Krasner and
Robert Cox in dialogue with each other or are they writing on the same general topic, but from such
distinct frameworks that the discussion ultimately collapses? Even if the discussion does collapse,
is there something worthwhile in attempting to engage these authors? This paper attempts to place
the authors from this weeks readings in conversation. In doing so, it becomes clear that Krasner and
John Ruggie s conceptions of international relationsare shortsighted and problematic. However,
Craig Murphy, Sol Picciotto, Cox, and Claire Cutler all have beneficial insights into global
governance. In particular, Cox s contention that multilateralism has been effective in
institutionalizing a liberal economic order that should not be understood as synonymous with
international cooperation aids us in our consideration of world order. Krasner defines the sovereign
statemodel as a system of political authority based on territory, mutual recognition, autonomy, and
control (2001, 18). Krasner uses this definition, not to promote the sovereign statemodel as the
global modus operandi (or so

Essay On College Athletes Are Not Paid
College athletes have always been worked beyond imagine, and it is ridiculous to think that even
in today s society, college athletes are not paid. Unlike regular college students, student athletes
are not able to work jobs or make extra money because they put over forty hours a week in to their
respective sport. More often than not collegeathletes are taken advantage of because they put their
bodies at risk for injury and have no insurance or income to make it worthwhile. Of course, some

According to Allen Sack, athletes are already essentially paid to play, by getting to go to college
for free, but they also deserve the same rights and benefits as other employees, which could
include medical benefits, workers compensation when injured, and the right to build financial
security for their family while in college, and the denial of these rights is morally
unconscionable (Sack). It does not make sense that college athletes are not paid because these
athletes are the sole reason for popularity in the college athletic apparel market, which brings in
millions of dollars a year, yet college athletes do not see a dime, even though they are the reason
for sold jerseys and other apparel. Even worse is the fact that college athletes are prone to getting
injured and a rising star with a great future ahead of him or her can have their contract

To what extent was the Helsinki Final Act detrimental for the Soviet Union?
The Helsinki Act of 1975 was one of the major accomplishments for the Brezhnev administration.
The signing of the act would consolidate a dГ©tente era between the USSR, its satellites and the
West. However, the consequences of this Act are seen with different interpretations. On one hand,
the Helsinki Accords contributed to the parity between the USSR and the United States. On the
other hand, the signing is seen as the beginning of the demise of the Soviet Union.

A combination of lack of production and bad climate produced poor harvests. As a consequence,
Brezhnev was forced to increase agricultural imports. The high demand for consumer products was
satisfied by the black market.
After Khrushchev s liberal regime, Brezhnev reinforced a conservative regime. Censorship and
persecution of dissidents was still enforced in the USSR .
In the USSR s view the term dissident represents a cunning propaganda maneuver, intended to
confuse the public . The government claimed that they respected freedom of speech, however, their
actions demonstrated the opposite. Soviets were even institutionalized in psychiatric hospitals or
deported from the USSR . Dissidents mainly protested through literature and other artistic media.
They criticized their government for lack of progress and suppression of human rights. The
spreading of dissident opinion was primarily distributed through the samizdat, self published
writings or pamphlets illegally distributed .
Brezhnev s Foreign Policy
Brezhnev s foreign policy had three specific aims. The first one was to maintain the socialist
influence in the soviet satellite countries, therefore, maintaining a strong economical, military and
political support. The second aim was to reinforce peaceful relationships with the West following a

Oscar Wilde s Character, Jack Worthing, And The Other
Oscar Wilde s protagonist, Jack Worthing, carries on two distinct identities throughout the play. One
of the personas is a countryman in Hertfordshire named Jack Worthing, and the other is a dandy in
London named Ernest. Wilde intentionally creates two different characters, which are contradictory
to the reader s expectation whenever they first read the characters names. The name Ernest
correlates with the actual definition of the adjective earnest, which means a person who is honest,
serious, and sincere. Later in the play, Jack realizes his name is actually John, however both have
the same connotation. Gwendolyn states in the first act, there is very little music in the name
Jack... I ve known several Jacks, and they all without exception were more than usually plain
(Wilde 25). Evidently, in the Victorian Era, a man with the name Jack or John was expected to be
plain or a man who is not a dandy, but an ordinary man who has responsibilities. The names Wilde
gave to his characters seem to be appropriate, however, once the reader dissects the play, the names
Jack and Ernest would have been better applied to their counterparts.
The brilliant title that Oscar Wilde gives his play is a pun in itself. The pun depends on not only
the adjective earnest, but after the farce has ended the audience will recognize that there is an
actual importance in being a gentleman named Ernest. In the Victorian era, the idea of earnestness
was a virtue that the people attached the

The Role Of Financial Aid In Education
After high school, more and more students are opting to continue their education and earn a degree.
However, many face a financial struggle. The cost to attend college is rising. Often, many might

Classroom Space Impact On Students And The Overall...
There have been a number of studies done to show how the amount of space that is available in a
classroom can have an effect on the behavior of the students and the overall environment of the
classroom. In 2003, Duncanson found that classroom space impacts how teachers and students
behave. He found that classrooms with small amounts of space were prone to have inefficient
pathways and look cluttered. In part, it was found that this situation was caused by the large
amount of room teachers reserved for their own use and the large amount of space covered by
other pieces of furniture. The arrangement of the furniture hampered the natural flow patterns and
created small open spaces for students to work. Thus teachers more or less identified and assigned
the spaces that were to be used by students while working on an activity (Duncanson, 2003). The
ideal classroom is one where there are minimal distractions to learning, focused attention on
classroom discussions and positive learning about critical subject material. With this in mind, it is
important to understand what causes misbehavior and what can be done to limit it. Misbehavior
must be taken in context however, since one must look at the situation and instructor to determine
if a particular action falls in the misbehavior category. For example, walking around during a math
lesson would be unacceptable, but walking around in a pottery class would be expected (Burden,
1995). In one study by Tiirkniiklii Galton (2001),

Irgages And Disadvantages Of Alternative Dispute Resolution
1)Alternative Dispute resolution or ADR refers to any sort of action that is utilize instead of a court
of action. The following are advantages to alternative dispute resolution.
One of this advantages is that it allows both parties to obtain some sort of gain because in a court
of action only party would be the beneficiary. Another benefit is that the process would not be as
bureaucratic as it would be on court of action where representatives of the company would also
focus on the case and not in the activities of the company. ADR also provides the ability for the
company to not get negative attention as matters can be keep private. Lawyer and administrative
cost would be greatly reduce because not many lawyers would be need it for negotiations.
Furthermore, Alternative Dispute resolution are often use by companies operating in international
markets.
2)Negotiation, refers to the process of having the two sides come to an agreement without the help
of an externality. This could be beneficial to both parties because they can come to an agreement of
their own terms and both side win. Mediation is when a neutral authority brings both sides to the
table to help solve the dispute. Benefits to doing this process, is that the mediator can provide
alternatives to how to solve the dispute, although results are nonbinding. Arbitration is when a third
party decides the outcome of a dispute. For the winning party is an advantage because the decision

Comparison Of Sweeney Todd And Into The Woods
Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods are musicals with lyrics and scores written by Stephen
Sondheim. In Sweeney Todd, a barber is sent to Australia for trumped up charges while the
Judge steals his wife and daughter. Barker comes back with a vengeance, renames himself
Sweeney Todd and vows to make the Judge pay for what he has done. In Into the Woods, a witch
has put a curse on a family for generations because the patriarch stole some vegetables from her
garden. Springing from this robbery, she set a curse disallowing the family to ever bear children
again. The Baker, the son of the thief, now begs the Witch to remove the curse, she sends him on
a scavenger hunt and thus creates turmoil and distress for many other people. In both cases,
revenge is used as a driving force for the plot. Sondheim represents the theme of revenge in both
musicals as detrimental to those you love as well as a trap that can lead you into dark places. The

Inner City Stereotypes Essay
Black, White, Hispanic, and Asian; we all have our thoughts on them. What do I mean you ask?
The thoughts that we have already preset for the different races. The assumptions we use to portray
a single person or group; are stereotypes. The unreliable generalization about all members of a
group that does not recognize individual differences within the group. We will not talk about
stereotypes everywhere. Lets narrow the focus down to innercity stereotypes.
An inner city is an area inside of a city associated with social and economic problems. Think of Los
Angeles, there are multiple neighborhoods inside it; such as Watts, and Compton. Even better think
of New York City, some of the neighborhoods include; Brooklyn, Harlem, Queens, and Manhattan.

Most people will have negative views and associates them as a criminal. They will assume that you
live in poverty, you are on government assistance, and that you obtain a low level education. These
views are forced on us because of the way society has delineate them. For example when we see
a news report about a car that has been stolen in the inner city we instantly think a poor raised
black man; but why? Well society has told us that if one black man has stolen, then all black men
are thieves. On television they advertise welfare and government assistance, but what they show is
a poor single parent, who is generally a minority. Society tell us that these stereotypes are what
everyone is like, but that is just not the case.
I can tell you first hand that the stereotypes about us inner city people are wrong. I say us
because I am an inner city born and raised resident. Some people from these parts commit crime
therefore it supports the notion and claims of these stereotypes. Why do people get shocked or
surprised when a stereotype is wrong? I was raised to never judge a book by it s cover, I understand
everyone was not raised like me; everyone claims they do not judge before knowing the facts,
which we all know to not be true. Before meeting someone we already have an idea of who they

Gender Discrimination In Society
Gender discrimination. Everyday, everywhere. We ve all gone through it. But the real question
is..... Which gender is discriminated against more? I for one believe that females face more gender
discrimination than males do. Gender inequality is defined as perceptions of individuals due to
their gender and judgements or expectations based on what society deems appropriate for their
gender. I will admit. Males are also discriminated against. But not as strongly as females. In our
society, we constantly hear phrases that corrupt our expectations of women. Phrases that manipulate
us to believe that there is only one gender and one gender only that is strongly discriminated
against. Today, in our generation, in our community, in our society, that may as well be true.
Men aren t considered equal to women, and women are DEFINITELY not considered equal to
men. In the past, if a woman pursued a career in engineering, not only would she be judged by
society, but also by her family that she is not fit for the occupation of an engineer, because she
was not a man. If a man pursued nursing as a career, he would be considered an unsuccessful
doctor. This was because society classified it as a woman s job. Luckily for us, the 21st Century
has evolved from such expectations. On occasion, men are given equal opportunities to women.

Plato s Influence on the Western Civilization
Plato and His Relation to Western Civilization Plato is one of the succinct psychologists, analyst,
and scholar the world has ever had. He is a lucrative figure in the birth, generation, and early
development of the western civilization. His contributions through ethics, politics, religion,
symposiums, and dialogues with Socrates exemplify a myriad of his works since he was a
young scholar. He participated in a number of events, theoretical appearances, and analysis, and
posting of theories and precepts, which gave birth to the present knowledge in psychology,
religion, and other disciplines of study in the world. It is with immediate agreement that Plato had
a lot of influence on the western civilization. Plato had an extensive relation to western
civilization (Mason, 2010). Plato is seen as an important figure in western civilization in many
ways. For instance, early Christianity is a product of Plato s activities and contributions. Plato
liked to analyze and give connotations, which backed and uplifted the various degrees and
agreements as regards religion in the world. The present sense of western spirituality is just but a
making of Plato characteristics. Concerning the western religion, Plato had little influence and use
of body in religion. This is depicted by the present western civilization in which much of the
activities involve spirituality and not the real physical body. In many western activities, there are
the presence of ascetics, a tendency, and

A Woman’S Sacrifice. As A Woman In 1879, You Are Not...
A Woman s Sacrifice
As a woman in 1879, you are not considered a respectable member of society. Women during this
time period are objectified and shaped into becoming the proper housewife for a man she
probably does not even love. In Henrik Isben s A Doll s House , we see three main examples on
what women are forced to sacrifice to be married or any relationship really. with Nora, Anne
Marie, and Mrs. Linde. These women are basically dolls that are played with by the men they are
married to, their families, and society.

loved the idea of being married and with her. Torvald says to Nora, What a horrible awakening!
The woman who was my pride and joy for eight years, a hypocrite, a liar, worse than that, much
worse a criminal (Isben 910, Act III). Torvald always wanted to be the man to rescue , but not
when she really needed his help.
Anne Marie was another example of this. She had a child out of wedlock and the man she was
impregnated by wanted nothing to do with either her or the child. Anne Marie was not going to
be able to properly care for her child, so she gave up her daughter so they both could have a better
life. Anne Marie became the nanny to Nora after Nora s mother had died. Nora and Anne Marie

Irish Influence On American Culture
The word Irish may suddenly pop into your head and all you can think about is a malevolent drunk
Irish. However, this typical stereotype is far from true. Another stereotype may be that all Irish men
and women are considered to be inherently lucky. This stereotype unlike the first one may be very
accurate. Looking at the history of the Irish, many events attest to countless times of ill fortune
such as: prejudice against Irish, prejudice against Catholicism, and loss of land. Looking at this on a
more global perspective, the Irish had unfortunately lived in lands that did not belonged to them;
instead, foreign individuals the British, the Vikings, and many other conquerors. Like many
individuals throughout the world, the Irish was expected to conform, adapt, and furtively become a
part of the community around them. However, little did the conquerors know, the Irish had one
crucial advantage: hope. They survived all the prejudice against them, they survived starvation, they
survived war, and most importantly, they survived life. All this was able to become reality due to
hope. Maybe the Irish are not very lucky, however, the Irish constantly remained hopeful and

Enemy Combatants Scenarios
The war on terror has brought about much facets of democracy. The role of democratic principles
plays an important aspect in the way that individuals are treated. There are ongoing debates over the
constitutional right of non citizens and citizens traveling abroad. The supreme court has not
suggested that US citizens arrested within the United Statesbe treated any differently because he
was suspected of being a terrorist or suspected of such. The process that I chose to discuss is the
enemy combatant.
An enemy combatant is individuals arrested in the United States as terrorism suspects and held
for an unspecified amount of time incommunicado without charges, trial or even access to
counsel. Enemy combatants are also rendered bureaucratic rights by the courts (Article 5 of the
Third Geneva Convention). Their due process and the right to a fair trial has been regulated to a
place where laws of war and constitution are upheld. Lack of a trial by jury deprives a defendant
of the rights to face a jury of their peers, cross examine the evidence that is held against them, and
assistance of counsel as expressed in the Sixth Amendment.

The Prediction Of Fullerene Structure
Fullerene was first recorded in a Japanese article, Kagaku, written by Eiji Osawa in 1970 which
stated the prediction on the existence of C60 compound [1]. In the following year, a conjecture on
the stability of C60 was established by Osawa and Yoshida where the aromatic characteristic of
C60 was described further. The stability was further better explained when the HГјckel s calculation
method was applied and introduced to the icosahedron structure of C60 by Bochvar and Gal pern
[2]. The prediction of fullerenestructure was discussed based on graphiteballoon speculation made
by David Jones using pseudonym of Daedalus in a journal, The Scientist [3]. This speculation was
essentially describing the gas phase carboncluster in the form of geodesic cages which is applied to
giant fullerenes compound [2].
Fullerenes can be described as closely packed carbon cages hold in rings of, most commonly,
hexagons and pentagons with sp2 hydridised carbons. In some larger structure with more than 100
carbons, heptagonal rings may present. A large numbered fullerene will require larger cage to
obtain the most least steric angle between the bonds and the structure might have a surface of
concaved [4]. Figure 1 and Figure 2 show the cage structures of fullerenes C60 and C70. Both of
these fullerenes are the most stable fullerene with more planar and larger nearly spherical structure
and have higher thermodynamic stability with positive enthalpy change of formation, ∆H_f [4].

RSV will usually affect one s upper respiratory tract first before affecting the lower. It is also more
common that this virus will affect someone s upper respiratory rather than the lower respiratory.
Someone with an upper respiratory infection may come across as having the common cold,
tonsillitis, the flu, and etc. The flu is also able to occur in someone who has a lower respiratory
tract infection, as well as, bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, and tuberculosis ( Respiratory Tract
Infections, 2014).
RSV is a virus that is hard to diagnosis because the signs and symptoms are a lot like the
common cold. One may start to develop a runny nose or decrease in appetite the first couple of
days when having this virus; but coughing, sneezing, and wheezing may also occur. In young
infants, they may experience irritability or difficulties with breathing ( CDC, 2014). One may
have this virus before realizing the symptoms like a dry cough, low grade fever, sore throat or
headache (Mayo Clinic, 1998). Someone with an upper respiratory tract infection may have a fever,
headache, sore throat or wheezing; whereas someone with a lower respiratory tract infection may
have a cough, increased breathing rate, tightness in the chest. While both tract infections should be
taken seriously, they both can lead to RSV.
Bronchitis and Bronchiolitis are also two very serious infections that may lead to RSV.

Multinational Corporations ( Mncs ) Essay
The enterprises that operate in numerous countries to produce or provide services outside their
original countries can be identified as Multinational Corporations (MNCs), or Transnational
Corporations (TNCs). Usually, an MNC can produce at least 25 percent of its world output outside
of its country of origin. Recently, a new breed of MNC emerges thanks to Internet based
communication tools. They begin their operations in different countries very early on. Because
they are small businesses, these companies are being called micro multinationals to distinguish
them from larger MNCs. Several of these micro multinationals are software development
companies. They have been looking for employees in many countries since the start of the age of
the Internet. Nowadays, an increasing number of micro multinationals actively market their
products and services in numerous nations. The use of Internet tools like Google, Yahoo, MSN,

other countries. There are many ways to explain the diverse and manifold growth of the
multinationals. Those include these factors: (1) Expansion of market skills, (2) Superior
marketing, (3) Huge financial resources, (4) Technological edge. Expansion of Market Skill After
India announced the liberalized foreign investment policy in 1991, a growth spurt in the number of
MNCs as well as foreign collaborations occurred. The MNCs in India are very diverse. Though they

Theme Of Guilt In Atonement
Both writers of the books Atonement and The Remains of The Day investigate the manners by
which the characters are responsible for enabling their imagination to dominate their perception of
reality. This then brings severe consequences that shape the rest of their stories throughout the

that is used in the books in the portrayal of emotions, or lack of, which also showed the tension

a nurse. Briony s guilt is shown through the way that she endeavours to keep on working for her
fallen sister as opposed to following her own desires. The fountain scene is an excellent example
of how Briony s desire for a much more romanticised world would affect her to think irrationally,
while watching the interactions amongst Cecilia and Robbie, Briony s train of thought switches

Dasaratha had four wives and Ravana had a lot and they were all suppose to be loyal to their
husband and satisfy their needs. Also in the story all the rulers, kings, or leaders were all men
even the monkey kingdom and there wasn t one woman who ruled. An example of this in the
story is the leader of the monkey kingdom Sugreeva is a male and the king of Ayodhya,
Dasaratha is also a male. Men also had role to fight and battle while woman weren t aloud to and
were expected to keep doing their stuff they usually do and be a loyal wife. For example all of the
battles that were taken place in the story there were no women in the battle field. Men were
dominant in the ramayana and woman had no power but in today s time it is much different from
that.
In today s society men are expected to have only wife and not multiple and it is also the same for
a woman and if that is broken then it is considered cheating which is a unacceptable thing. That
was not the case in the Ramayana. In our current time men and women rule. An example of this
is the ruler of England Queen Elizabeth II is the current leader of England and is a female. Also
America had a women run for president and even though she didn t win there is out to be a time
soon that a female will become the next president for the United States. This would of never been
heard of in the time of the Ramayana. For war and battle it is acceptable for a women to be
enrolled into the army with men now. There are quite a bit of women

Citizen Kane And The American Dream
Citizen Kane and the American Dream No one can sum up a man s life into one word. This was a
thought intriguingly an idea in the film that still resonates today in our society. Citizen Kane
(1941) is an important film that reflected society s false belief of the American Dream during its
time. The film was directed and starred by Orson Wellesand tells a story of a man name Charles
Foster Kane, who had everything and who lived an ideal life that everyone wanted to have.
However, having many fine possessions of things and a great deal amount of money at his
disposal, did not make him happy. The film reflects on Mr. Kane s life before his death and his
legacy. Citizen Kaneshows how during the era, people wanted to have financial security,
happiness and to gain material success. Although the American Dream is still something people
want today, Citizen Kane shows how attaining the American Dream was something less of a
dream during its era. The film also show the changes of the American Dream from dream to
myth and explores the dark side of the held belief. The term American Dream was first coined in
1931 by James Truslow Adams. The term is defined as, anyone in America can gain wealth and
status as long as he or she worked hard, regardless of their social status. For instance, in one of the
most significant scene, it showed a young Charles Foster Kane playing outside in the snow with his
sled, while his mother watches him from inside the boarding house. In this

Air Pollution Is An Unavoidable Mixture Of Substances That...
Air pollution is an unavoidable mixture of substances that we breathe in. There is no way to
escape air pollution nowadays since it can be encountered indoors as well as outdoors. The type
of pollution we breathe in can be divided between indoor and outdoor by the different types of air
pollution that are released in these environments. Fine particles such as burning fossil fuels (such
that come from traffic and energy production), tobacco smoke, and chemical vapors are found in
the air breathed in from outdoors, while solvents (such as found in household cleaners and
products), mold, and carbon monoxide are sadly breathed in from within homes and businesses on
a daily basis.
There is no question to anyone s mind that these air pollutants cause harmful effects to one s health.
Studies have been conducted to link air pollution to the hundreds of ailments that many men,
women and children have suffered over the years. Cardiovascular and respiratory illnesses are
without a doubt caused by air pollution as studies have shown. Today there are studies showing that
Autism is linked to air pollution. The purpose of this paper is a review of the current state of
knowledge on air pollution and whether it plays a role in children developing autism.
Autism is a disability that impairs the normal brain development in children. It causes deficits in
their verbal and non verbal communication, social interaction, and play. Girls are more likely to
show severe characteristics of the

Robert Nozick s Experience Machine
In this essay, following a brief discussion on Nozick s Experience Machine , I argue that his
assumption that nobody would plug into the experience machine is a false one due to his failure to
fully explore what creates a pleasurable experience. I will then further discuss this idea of pleasure,
suggesting that it is possible that the experience machinecould potentially offer an experience that
people would be more inclined to participate in and that more fully imitates reality. However, I
will counter this with the Nozick s affirmation that people desire to connect with reality and
mimicry of reality does not allow a part in the course of our universe.
Robert Nozick suggests in his thought experiment regarding the experience machine that ... Show

For example, most people may not delight in the process of attending school, but they would still
desire the end goal of becoming a more knowledgeable person or even simply the satisfaction of
completing tasks. This is not hedonistic delight, but a fulfilment of desires through relatively
unpleasant means. Nozick seems to offer through his examples that his machine may possibly
simulate these things, as long as the experience is ultimately a pleasurable one, and I suspect that
this means the result is an elevated feeling of joy. If we offer this deeper, more complicated view
on pleasure and fulfilment and state that the experience machine could still offer this to us, it
seems possible that people would be inclined to disagree with Nozick s idea that nobody would

Schindler s List Analysis
Schindlers list so we just watched the schindlers list. The movie in all was great. At the
beginning, I wasnt sure if I would get into it. I was wrong. I didnt really know what to think
about Oscar, I believe he was way different at the beginning of the movie. Defenitly had a
different perspective of him of first, he only really focused on himself and getting money. A bit
selfish. I think deep down he was a good man at heart. He defenitly dealed with things a lot better
than others did. The other man was horrible he had no empathy what so ever for other people.
Not even children. Sometimes there was no reason behind killing innocent people, he did it
simply because he felt like it. There was a time when schindler actually tried to prevent him from
killing people without thinking. The bad guy said that killing meant he had power, but schindler
said that having the ability too kill and not doing so but forgive is real power. The bad guy didnt
really get it at first and just kind of laughed at him. The next day I think he kind of understood it
better, and actually even showed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the way to schindlers camp, the men were getting water by breaking off icecles and melting
them into pots that they had with them. When the men arrived, schindler said that the women
werent there yet but should arrive at any moment. Little did he know that the cart with all the
women got sent to the wrong camp. When the women first got there you can tell they were all
very confused. They tried telling the soldiers but they didnt listen. All the women were forced to
strip there close off and go into these enclosed rooms. They all were terrified at first, which is
understandable. Because of the fact that in similar chambers they would gas them and kill them. To
there surprise, it was actually just a shower. They were so relieved and happy. Although before the
showers I forgot to mention that all the women got there hair chopped

Creationists Proof Of Evolution
Creationists Proof of an Omnipotent Creator vs. Evolutionists Proof of Evolution
Over the past 160 years, the world views of Creationists and Evolutionists have debated against
each other in a struggle to claim ultimate victory over the other ( Carbon Dating. An
Encyclopedia). The struggle over the same evidence and the same proof that both sides say
support their claim is endless. Overall, it comes to which side is the most reasonable and the most
believable. Evolutionists say the universe, earth and its species have evolved over millions of
years. Creationists say that the universe, the earth and its species were created by an omnipotent
Creator (Birx. Darwin, Charles. Encyclopedia of Time). Creationism at one point in our society was
the only solution we had for life around us. It is centered on God as the creator of everything.
However on November 24, 1859 a naturalist by the name of Charles Darwin Published The Book of
Origins, which suggested that man evolved from a creature over millions of years (Darwin,
Charles. Encyclopedia of Time). He called this idea evolution. With these two different worldviews

Women And The Spartan Women
Throughout ancient human history, men and women held vastly different roles. Women were
often given the duty of bearing and raising children, whereas men were expected to fight, provide
an income, and protect the household. Women were seen as totally inferior to men and described
by Euripedes as a curse to mankind and a plague worse than fire or any viper. However, this
misogynistic view of women and designated role of inferiority was not apparent in every ancient
civilization. The role of the female in ancient Greek history can best be explored and contrasted
between two important civilizations: The Spartans and the Athenians. The Spartan women were
incredibly advanced for their time, and the Athenian women were drastically far behind. Both the
Spartan and Athenian women held roles at home and lived lives far removed from the men of their
societies. However, their lives were much different. While the Spartan women were strong and
educated, the Athenian women held a status almost equal to slavery. The Spartan women were far
more advanced than Athenians in aspects of life including education, athleticism, and
independence. In no other city state did women enjoy the same freedom and status as Spartan
women. As a military driven society, the Spartans realized that regardless of gender all Spartiates
had an obligation to serve the militaristic end of Sparta. With this focus in mind, women were
allowed more freedom, rights, and independence. Spartan women were

The Christian Subculture
The definition of a subculture is a cultural group within a larger culture. By this statement, I am a
part of the Christianity subculture. This has proven to be paramount to my attitude and behavior.
For example, the doctrine that is taught dictates the way I interact with others verbally, the way I
treat others, the way I feel as a person, and how my emotions are shown. With regards to verbal
interaction, the Holy Bible says Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that
which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Ephesians 4:29
(KJV) . I do my best to speak as politely as possible to others. I give them the respect that I would
wish upon myself. And as ye would that men should... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated earlier, the verse taken from Luke 6:31 is a perfect quote to describe the way I treat
others. Most people would want to be treated with kindness, respect, and courtesy. I believe that I
do this well. By treating people this way, I am in turn treated similarly. This is commonly known
as, The Golden Rule . The way I feel as a person is directly affected by the scripture of God.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have
tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 (KJV) . This verse is
essentially telling us to be happy, and to have peace. I believe that this is done well, and shown
through my actions. I consider myself to be a happy, and an enthusiastic person. Being happy is
a great feeling, and I take pride in the fact that I can be happy despite anything that is
metaphorically thrown at me. These ideals are a component to the way I handle my emotions. He
that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a
city. Proverbs 16:32 (KJV) This is one of the many verses that tell us to control our emotions.
There are also many verses that give us advice for any emotion that we are feeling. If you are
feeling depressed, anxious, or are feeling any form of negative emotion, you can consult the Bible,

What Are The Arguments For The Interlopers
The Interlopers Throughout the short story, The Interlopers, author Saki creates a disagreement
between the two main characters, Georg Znaeym and Ulrich von Gradwitz, over who should get the
land. If the two men had settled their argument in the beginning of their friendship instead of
holding the argument out they could have become friends; however, if they get in arguments so
small, their friendship could have been rattled in the future. Perhaps if Georg would have stayed on
his own land they would not have even had to start this argument. The two men would not have
even had to meet. Finally, if Ulrich would have shared his land with Georg they would be alive at
the end of the story. In attempt to destruct one another, the two men destructed

Should School Be A Mandatory Course On The Real World And...
Do you remember when we had our first job, and couldn t wait for that first check? I remember
mine. The money was all gone in 60 seconds, as I spent it all on things that didn t really matter.
We all wished we could ve prevented that spending habit. I regret every penny that I lost, while I
had no idea how to use money correctly. School districts need to focus on providing courses that
will better prepare students for real life issues. Therefore, there should be a mandatory course on,
Personal Finance, in high School, because as they are struggling to figure out who they are as they
are also oblivious to their own financial identity status, they don t know have the financial
discipline from home, on understanding how to manage their money, and the most financial issues
results to even academic failure. There are many ways to prepare these students for the real world
and money. First of all, if you remember that piggy bankthat we kept as kids, it was probably the
only understanding we had about money, growing up. We would put money in there, and we
weren t allowed to touch it unless it got full. And when that time came, the only way to access
our savings, is if we sacrificed that piggy, by throwing it on the ground, or hammering it to pieces.
We did just about anything to get that piggy bank to open. Well, because of the lack of knowledge
today, our reality of piggy banks as adults has diminished. Today that piggy has hole at the bottom.
We are able to dig into that

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the book Teaching English as a Foreign Language, The Communicative approach advocates that language, first and foremost, as a system for communication . The communicative approach is based on the idea that learning language successfully comes through having to communicate real meaning. When learners are involved in real communication, their natural strategies for language acquisition will be used, and this will allow them to learn to use the language (Communicative Approach, 2006) . The questionnaire and interview showed that SaГєl needs to focus on his listening and speaking abilities, his writing and reading skills are good but also need some work to be polished. Since he stopped his English classes a couple of years ago SaГєl has lost any kind of speaking and listening practice and this has created a sense of insecurity in him getting him to think he cannot speak English at all. His reading and comprehension skills are not a difficult issue since he barely had any trouble when answering the questionnaire, except form a couple of words which he asked about the meaning answering the questionnaire was easy for ... They have evolved in its primitive regions and are well suited to the hot and dangerous country, however, this evolutionary process follows that of the local wildlife where higher thought has not been made evident in these people as they engage in primitive rituals in which they murder each other as well as their children. One cannot expect them to reach the level of sophistication that the Western man has obtained. Despite the often savage and barbaric behaviour of the primitive, I believe that they can be broken into their rightful roles. In the words of Thomas More, You wouldn t abandon a ship in a storm just because you couldn t control the winds, from the aptly named book Utopia. The limitless power of holding such a position in the eyes of these gullible yet potentially useful creatures if used in a manner befitting of their position. These people present themselves in a manner as willing to accept the perception of them as barbaric, most likely due to their unyielding connection with the land and the wildlife. Procedural Rhetoric Procedural Rhetoric and Video Games Kyle University Affiliation 5th June 2018 When one is playing a video game, they are never focused on the composition of the game but on the content. Procedural rhetoric concept explains how people learn through the composition of rules and processes. It argues that games can be used to make a strong claim on how the world works. This is not done through the conventional means of words or visuals but through some processes and models. Additionally, the growing culture of societal impatience is like an addiction, it makes people crave more and more, and they want it now and right now. Ian Bogost article The Rhetoric of video games describes a situation where players unknowingly face the dilemma of wanting more and more. The argument is that for instance, if someone wants a bigger house, meaning an increase in mortgage, it has to be complemented by buying more other goods to fill the extra space hence a vicious cycle (Bogost, 2008). The same analogy is used by business models of freemium games to complement procedural rhetoric to foster an impatient society. Freemium models business offers certain aspects of the games free, while other parts have to be paid for. • 10. Prostate Carcinoma Essay INTRODUCTION Prostate cancer is the second most frequently diagnosed cancer and the sixth leading cause of cancer death in males. Incidence rates vary more than 25 fold worldwide, with the highest rates in the developed countries this may be due to the widespread use of prostate specific antigen testing and subsequent prostate biopsy in these regions [1]. Overall, the complex morphology, histologic heterogeneity, and the early signs of high malignant potential preclude a straightforward assessment of the metastatic potential of localized prostate carcinoma and show the requirement for extra clinical and pathologic tests for the evaluation of prostate carcinoma stage and clinical behavior[2] Distant spread of primary malignant cells to local and distant sites was explained by several models. Cumulative research shows a pivotal role of tumor microenvironment in the process of malignant cell dissemination. This role occurs through angiogenesis and epithelial stromal interactions, via the paracrine secretion of growth factors by stromal cells, which induce an epithelial mesenchymal transition in neighboring epithelial cells. This result in the increased migration of epithelial cells [3]. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Caveolin 1 was overexpressed in mouse and human metastatic malignant prostate cells. Everywhere, as far as the eye could reach, there was nothing but rough, shaggy, red, grass most of it as tall as I. North of the house, inside the ploughed fire breaks , grew a thick set strip of box elder trees, low and bushy, their leaves already turning yellow. This hedge was nearly a quarter of a mile long, but I had to look very hard to see it at all. The little trees were insignificant against the grass. It seemed as if the grass were about to run over them, and over the plum patch behind the sod chicken house. As I looked about me I felt that the grass was the country, as the water is the sea. • 13. Heteronormativity Essay Heteronormativity has not accepted the fact that there is no need to be a heterosexual couple to engage in sexual or romantic activities or that there is no need to be born with the right genre. This negation has had a negative impact in lives of people who identify themselves in a distinct manner from the ones that are considered normal . One of the most important consequences that this assumption can be found in mental health. An example of this was shown by Todd (as cited by Wilchins, 1997) trans identity is not a natural fact. Rather, it is the political category we are forced to occupy when we do certain things with our bodies. That so many of us try to take our own lives, mutilate ourselves, or just succeed in dying quietly of shame, depression, or loneliness is not an accident. We are supposed to feel isolated and desperate. Outcast. That is the whole point of the system. Our feelings are not causes but effects. (p33)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there are some people who defend the idea that mental illnesses or problems related to the mind are not merely delineated by how society treats you, but it is a correlation between phenotypical and genotypical features potentiated by the context a person is born and the life history of the last one.Even though this argument could be supported by scientific evidence, this does not rest importance to the fact that heteronomativity has a huge influence on how a person perceives himself and faces the world because of how this belief is tightly woven in society. To conclude, one of the ways in which this standard affects people is by rejecting them causing further problems because this makes people feel as outcasts and has an impact in their psychological ... There is a direct company customer contact based relationship. (Moores, 1986) This experience helps hotels achieve distinction against competitors. For hotel chains wanting to satisfy the needs of guests and beat the competition, then building a psycho brand provides an opportunity which if realized, could do not only this but also defy the test of time. (Mehta Gautam, December 17, 2003) Perceptions of brands in the minds of the consumer are formed on the basis of the four main functions of the brain thinking, sensation, intuition and feeling. The status is worrying considering that the taxpayers and the citizens normally provide the state security. The concept of black citizenship is demonstrated by the Berlin wall concept, an allegory of racial apartheid in Bahia. Apartheid and the wall have similar roles in that apartheid enforces separation between races, which mostly applies to the invidious structure and racial inequality. Though the Brazil case is different from that of South Africa, it has a history that subtly divides the nation into races. The nature of citizenship of the black community and the whites in Brazil can be claimed to be different. Afro Brazilians are considered as the national subjects who are required to adhere to the laws of the land. Specifically, black peoples are required to pay taxes, register for cards and vote in elections. Moreover, black Brazilians are subjected to aggressive policing characterized by intense surveillance. • 16. The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein Meaning The Giving Tree is a sentimental poem by Shel Silverstein. The main lesson of this poem revolves around absolute selflessness, it s evident. However, despite this essential, meaningful teaching, there are other underlying themes that are just as influential, if not more. These other lessons, perhaps, are vital to a happy life. The Giving Treepreaches around ideas like: going barefoot, just being there for someone, and that happiness is a place between too much and too little. The relevancy of these life lessons are indescribable. Firstly, going barefoot might be the way to walk. The meaning of this short phrase conveys that the stress free life of a naive child running barefoot in the yard is something taken for granted. People are too busy pushing kids into their future that they forget, sometimes childhood is what they should be revisiting. The hardships of life is something only people with a certain maturity can fully effect. Once there was a tree....and she loved a little boy. • 19. The, And, By Stephen Krasner And John Ruggie s... Many of the authors of the readings for this week seem to be writing past each other. While all of these readings come from a 10 year time span and discuss multilateralism and/or sovereignty, there are stark distinctions in who or what is being discussed as the referent object of international relations or world order. This begs the question, can we read, for instance, Stephen Krasner and Robert Cox in dialogue with each other or are they writing on the same general topic, but from such distinct frameworks that the discussion ultimately collapses? Even if the discussion does collapse, is there something worthwhile in attempting to engage these authors? This paper attempts to place the authors from this weeks readings in conversation. In doing so, it becomes clear that Krasner and John Ruggie s conceptions of international relationsare shortsighted and problematic. However, Craig Murphy, Sol Picciotto, Cox, and Claire Cutler all have beneficial insights into global governance. In particular, Cox s contention that multilateralism has been effective in institutionalizing a liberal economic order that should not be understood as synonymous with international cooperation aids us in our consideration of world order. Krasner defines the sovereign statemodel as a system of political authority based on territory, mutual recognition, autonomy, and control (2001, 18). • 20. Essay On College Athletes Are Not Paid College athletes have always been worked beyond imagine, and it is ridiculous to think that even in today s society, college athletes are not paid. Unlike regular college students, student athletes are not able to work jobs or make extra money because they put over forty hours a week in to their respective sport. More often than not collegeathletes are taken advantage of because they put their bodies at risk for injury and have no insurance or income to make it worthwhile. Of course, some college athletes do go on to make millions of dollars, but that is only the case for a small percentage of college athletes, and since college sports brings in billions of dollars a year, college athletes should earn at least a small profit. Furthermore,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Allen Sack, athletes are already essentially paid to play, by getting to go to college for free, but they also deserve the same rights and benefits as other employees, which could include medical benefits, workers compensation when injured, and the right to build financial security for their family while in college, and the denial of these rights is morally unconscionable (Sack). It does not make sense that college athletes are not paid because these athletes are the sole reason for popularity in the college athletic apparel market, which brings in millions of dollars a year, yet college athletes do not see a dime, even though they are the reason for sold jerseys and other apparel. Even worse is the fact that college athletes are prone to getting injured and a rising star with a great future ahead of him or her can have their contract (scholarships) canceled once a school realizes that they will no longer be bringing value or money to their school. Of course, this sounds cruel, but it is the reality for some college athletes, and it is an option that must be extinguished because not only do regular students deserve reassurance and stability, but college athletes do ... One of the personas is a countryman in Hertfordshire named Jack Worthing, and the other is a dandy in London named Ernest. Wilde intentionally creates two different characters, which are contradictory to the reader s expectation whenever they first read the characters names. The name Ernest correlates with the actual definition of the adjective earnest, which means a person who is honest, serious, and sincere. Later in the play, Jack realizes his name is actually John, however both have the same connotation. Gwendolyn states in the first act, there is very little music in the name Jack... I ve known several Jacks, and they all without exception were more than usually plain (Wilde 25). Evidently, in the Victorian Era, a man with the name Jack or John was expected to be plain or a man who is not a dandy, but an ordinary man who has responsibilities. The names Wilde gave to his characters seem to be appropriate, however, once the reader dissects the play, the names Jack and Ernest would have been better applied to their counterparts. The brilliant title that Oscar Wilde gives his play is a pun in itself. • 25. Classroom Space Impact On Students And The Overall... There have been a number of studies done to show how the amount of space that is available in a classroom can have an effect on the behavior of the students and the overall environment of the classroom. In 2003, Duncanson found that classroom space impacts how teachers and students behave. He found that classrooms with small amounts of space were prone to have inefficient pathways and look cluttered. In part, it was found that this situation was caused by the large amount of room teachers reserved for their own use and the large amount of space covered by other pieces of furniture. The arrangement of the furniture hampered the natural flow patterns and created small open spaces for students to work. Thus teachers more or less identified and assigned the spaces that were to be used by students while working on an activity (Duncanson, 2003). The ideal classroom is one where there are minimal distractions to learning, focused attention on classroom discussions and positive learning about critical subject material. With this in mind, it is important to understand what causes misbehavior and what can be done to limit it. Misbehavior must be taken in context however, since one must look at the situation and instructor to determine if a particular action falls in the misbehavior category. For example, walking around during a math lesson would be unacceptable, but walking around in a pottery class would be expected (Burden, 1995). In one study by Tiirkniiklii Galton (2001), ... I for one believe that females face more gender discrimination than males do. Gender inequality is defined as perceptions of individuals due to their gender and judgements or expectations based on what society deems appropriate for their gender. I will admit. Males are also discriminated against. But not as strongly as females. In our society, we constantly hear phrases that corrupt our expectations of women. Phrases that manipulate us to believe that there is only one gender and one gender only that is strongly discriminated against. Today, in our generation, in our community, in our society, that may as well be true. Men aren t considered equal to women, and women are DEFINITELY not considered equal to men. In the past, if a woman pursued a career in engineering, not only would she be judged by society, but also by her family that she is not fit for the occupation of an engineer, because she was not a man. If a man pursued nursing as a career, he would be considered an unsuccessful doctor. This was because society classified it as a woman s job. Luckily for us, the 21st Century has evolved from such expectations. On occasion, men are given equal opportunities to women. Emma Watson is a role model in the eyes of many people, including my own. • 40. The Prediction Of Fullerene Structure Fullerene was first recorded in a Japanese article, Kagaku, written by Eiji Osawa in 1970 which stated the prediction on the existence of C60 compound [1]. In the following year, a conjecture on the stability of C60 was established by Osawa and Yoshida where the aromatic characteristic of C60 was described further. The stability was further better explained when the HГјckel s calculation method was applied and introduced to the icosahedron structure of C60 by Bochvar and Gal pern [2]. The prediction of fullerenestructure was discussed based on graphiteballoon speculation made by David Jones using pseudonym of Daedalus in a journal, The Scientist [3]. This speculation was essentially describing the gas phase carboncluster in the form of geodesic cages which is applied to giant fullerenes compound [2]. Fullerenes can be described as closely packed carbon cages hold in rings of, most commonly, hexagons and pentagons with sp2 hydridised carbons. In some larger structure with more than 100 carbons, heptagonal rings may present. A large numbered fullerene will require larger cage to obtain the most least steric angle between the bonds and the structure might have a surface of concaved [4]. Figure 1 and Figure 2 show the cage structures of fullerenes C60 and C70. Both of these fullerenes are the most stable fullerene with more planar and larger nearly spherical structure and have higher thermodynamic stability with positive enthalpy change of formation, ∆H_f [4]. RSV will usually affect one s upper respiratory tract first before affecting the lower. It is also more common that this virus will affect someone s upper respiratory rather than the lower respiratory. Someone with an upper respiratory infection may come across as having the common cold, tonsillitis, the flu, and etc. The flu is also able to occur in someone who has a lower respiratory tract infection, as well as, bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, and tuberculosis ( Respiratory Tract Infections, 2014). RSV is a virus that is hard to diagnosis because the signs and symptoms are a lot like the common cold. One may start to develop a runny nose or decrease in appetite the first couple of days when having this virus; but coughing, sneezing, and wheezing may also occur. In young infants, they may experience irritability or difficulties with breathing ( CDC, 2014). One may have this virus before realizing the symptoms like a dry cough, low grade fever, sore throat or headache (Mayo Clinic, 1998). Someone with an upper respiratory tract infection may have a fever, headache, sore throat or wheezing; whereas someone with a lower respiratory tract infection may have a cough, increased breathing rate, tightness in the chest. While both tract infections should be taken seriously, they both can lead to RSV. Bronchitis and Bronchiolitis are also two very serious infections that may lead to RSV. ... Multinational Corporations ( Mncs ) Essay The enterprises that operate in numerous countries to produce or provide services outside their original countries can be identified as Multinational Corporations (MNCs), or Transnational Corporations (TNCs). Usually, an MNC can produce at least 25 percent of its world output outside of its country of origin. Recently, a new breed of MNC emerges thanks to Internet based communication tools. They begin their operations in different countries very early on. Because they are small businesses, these companies are being called micro multinationals to distinguish them from larger MNCs. Several of these micro multinationals are software development companies. They have been looking for employees in many countries since the start of the age of the Internet. Nowadays, an increasing number of micro multinationals actively market their products and services in numerous nations. The use of Internet tools like Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ebay and Amazon makes it easier for the micro multinationals to reach potential customers in other countries. There are many ways to explain the diverse and manifold growth of the multinationals. Those include these factors: (1) Expansion of market skills, (2) Superior marketing, (3) Huge financial resources, (4) Technological edge. Expansion of Market Skill After India announced the liberalized foreign investment policy in 1991, a growth spurt in the number of MNCs as well as foreign collaborations occurred. There is no way to escape air pollution nowadays since it can be encountered indoors as well as outdoors. The type of pollution we breathe in can be divided between indoor and outdoor by the different types of air pollution that are released in these environments. Fine particles such as burning fossil fuels (such that come from traffic and energy production), tobacco smoke, and chemical vapors are found in the air breathed in from outdoors, while solvents (such as found in household cleaners and products), mold, and carbon monoxide are sadly breathed in from within homes and businesses on a daily basis. There is no question to anyone s mind that these air pollutants cause harmful effects to one s health. Studies have been conducted to link air pollution to the hundreds of ailments that many men, women and children have suffered over the years. Robert Nozick s Experience Machine In this essay, following a brief discussion on Nozick s Experience Machine , I argue that his assumption that nobody would plug into the experience machine is a false one due to his failure to fully explore what creates a pleasurable experience. I will then further discuss this idea of pleasure, suggesting that it is possible that the experience machinecould potentially offer an experience that people would be more inclined to participate in and that more fully imitates reality. However, I will counter this with the Nozick s affirmation that people desire to connect with reality and mimicry of reality does not allow a part in the course of our universe. If we offer this deeper, more complicated view on pleasure and fulfilment and state that the experience machine could still offer this to us, it seems possible that people would be inclined to disagree with Nozick s idea that nobody would plug into the ... I didnt really know what to think about Oscar, I believe he was way different at the beginning of the movie. He defenitly dealed with things a lot better than others did. The other man was horrible he had no empathy what so ever for other people. Not even children. Sometimes there was no reason behind killing innocent people, he did it simply because he felt like it. There was a time when schindler actually tried to prevent him from killing people without thinking. The bad guy said that killing meant he had power, but schindler said that having the ability too kill and not doing so but forgive is real power. • 51. Women And The Spartan Women Throughout ancient human history, men and women held vastly different roles. Women were often given the duty of bearing and raising children, whereas men were expected to fight, provide an income, and protect the household. Women were seen as totally inferior to men and described by Euripedes as a curse to mankind and a plague worse than fire or any viper. However, this misogynistic view of women and designated role of inferiority was not apparent in every ancient civilization. The role of the female in ancient Greek history can best be explored and contrasted between two important civilizations: The Spartans and the Athenians. The Spartan women were incredibly advanced for their time, and the Athenian women were drastically far behind. Both the Spartan and Athenian women held roles at home and lived lives far removed from the men of their societies. However, their lives were much different. While the Spartan women were strong and educated, the Athenian women held a status almost equal to slavery. The Spartan women were far more advanced than Athenians in aspects of life including education, athleticism, and independence. In no other city state did women enjoy the same freedom and status as Spartan women. As a military driven society, the Spartans realized that regardless of gender all Spartiates had an obligation to serve the militaristic end of Sparta.
