- 3. Introduction Synonym : Kaasani,Wild Chicory,etc Biological Source : Dried leaves and roots of Chichorium intybus (Family: Asteraceae) Geographical Sources : Europe, U.S., Canada, India. Chicory is an erect fairly woody perennial herb, around 1 m in height with a fleshy taproot of up to 75 cm in length and large basal leaves.
- 4. Chicory as Nutraceutical Nutraceutical: A food or part of food or nutrient, that provides health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of a disease. Chicory as Nutraceutical: • Chicory intybus is grown for the production of inulin on an industrial scale. • Chicory is used as a heart, digestive, stomach, and liver tonic, as well as a diuretic and anti-inflammatory agent. • Apetite stimulant. • Paste of chicory leaves directly apply to the skin for swelling and inflammation.
