Patients transitioned from their stimulant to atomoxetine over 2 weeks. ADHD symptoms improved significantly from baseline to study end based on parent ratings. Most parents and over half of patients preferred atomoxetine treatment to their previous stimulant. The transition was generally well-tolerated, though some increases in blood pressure and heart rate were observed. This pilot study suggests children and adolescents can be successfully switched from stimulants to atomoxetine with resulting ADHD symptom improvement.

This study investigated transitioning children and adolescents with ADHD from methylphenidate or amphetamine to atomoxetine. 62 patients participated, with most having ADHD-combined type and previously receiving methylphenidate. Patients transitioned from their stimulant to atomoxetine over 2 weeks. ADHD symptoms improved significantly from baseline to study end based on parent ratings. Most parents and over half of patients preferred atomoxetine treatment to their previous stimulant. The transition was generally well-tolerated, though some increases in blood pressure and heart rate were observed. This pilot study suggests children and adolescents can be successfully switched from stimulants to atomoxetine with resulting ADHD symptom improvement.

Psychiatry: • Psychiatry is the branch of medicine focused on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. • A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in mental health, including substance use disorders. Psychiatrists are qualified to assess both the mental and physical aspects of psychological problems. • The problems can be sudden, such as a panic attack, frightening hallucinations, thoughts of suicide, or hearing "voices." Or they may be more long-term, such as feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or anxiousness that never seem to lift or problems functioning, causing everyday life to feel distorted or out of control. 2
- 3. Sign of Mental health conditions: Feeling sad or depressed. Trouble concentrating. Extreme feelings (including fear, guilt, sadness, or anger). Withdrawal from friends or activities. Extreme mood changes. Alcohol or drug abuse. Unexplained hostility or violence. Inability to cope with stress or your feelings. Delusions, paranoia, or hallucinations (such as hearing voices). Thinking about hurting yourself or others. 3
- 4. Treatments There are many forms of psychotherapy. There are psychotherapies that help patients change behaviors or thought patterns, psychotherapies that help patients explore the effect of past relationships and experiences on present behaviors. Most medications are used by psychiatrists in much the same way that medications are used to treat high blood pressure or diabetes. After completing thorough evaluations, psychiatrists can prescribe medications to help treat mental disorders. 4
- 5. Rheumatology Autoimmune conditions occur when the immune system sends inflammation to areas of the body when it is not needed causing damage/symptoms. These diseases can also affect the eyes, skin, nervous system, and internal organs. Rheumatologists treat joint disease similar to orthopedists but do not perform surgeries. Common diseases treated by rheumatologists include osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatoid, chronic back pain, tendinitis, and lupus. Many rheumatologists also conduct research to find a cause of and better treatment of a rheumatic disease. 5

Nuclear pharmacy: • Nuclear pharmacy is a specialty area of pharmacy practice dedicated to the compounding and dispensing of radioactive materials for use in nuclear medicine procedures. • In this particular field, we are interested in a type of radiation termed radionuclides. A radionuclide is an atom that has an unstable nucleus. • There are quite a few naturally occurring radionuclides. Any nuclide with an atomic number greater than 83 is radioactive. An atom's atomic number is simply the total number of protons found in the nucleus. There are also many naturally occurring radionuclides with lower atomic numbers. • In most nuclear pharmacies, the nuclear pharmacist is responsible for obtaining the desired radioactive material, either from a manufacturer, or from an in house generator system. 6

Therapeutic planning skills • The proper implement of an activity will set the foundation of the child’s view of: - treatment and their experience of it ( first impression) - the trustworthiness of the new people in his/her life. • Basic to the activities is the creative endeavors of the resident, leading to feelings of self-identity and achievement. • The impact of what, when and how an activity is presented and implemented can have a lasting effect on the child’s development and perception on the other supports of environment and relationship. 7
- 8. • These aspects of a treatment plan guide both you and your therapist along the path to discovering what is causing your concerns, your goals for therapy, as well as the techniques you're going to try. • Presenting problem: A brief description of the main issue or issues. • Goals of therapy: An annotated list of both the short-term and long-term goals of therapy. • Methods: A short, annotated list of the techniques that will be used to achieve the goals. • Time estimate: A brief estimate of the length of time and/or the number of sessions needed.8
