Race Theories And Its Consequences
Race has evolved through the scientific endeavor to forward knowledge, from a categorisation of
people based on geographic origin and physical traits, to a hierarchical concept that is used as a tool to
racially vilify, discriminate and marginalize particular races. The term race was introduced in the 16th
century and referred to a group category of people (Smedley, 1999). From then, the concept of race
was scrutinized and redefined by the western world. America bought about the concept of race present
in modern day, however the intellectual framework that served as a guide was European (Brace,
2005). Understanding of the evolution of race theories and its consequences are crucial to analyse how
contemporary Indigenous Peoples are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the use of visual art to portray ideas is more connected to Indigenous cultures than imposed
western political and academic settings. This essay will critically discuss the work of Carl Linnaeus,
Johann Friedrich Blumenbach and Charles Darwin in defining race and its application to Indigenous
Australians. Followed by, analysis of the works of contemporary artists, Richard Bell, Bindi Cole,
Bronwyn Bancroft, Daniel Boyd, Michael Riley, Gordon Bennett and Lin Onus in challenging the
effects social constructions of race have had on Indigenous peoples. These issues include authenticity,
homogenous stereotyping, racial hierarchy and discrimination.
Carolus Linnaeus (1707 78), a Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist, is known for his taxonomic
system, which laid the foundations of the modern biological categorization (Brace, 2005). His
ambition was to make order the chaos of biological life based on distinctiveness and established
categories of generic and specific names. It divided humans into six categories; four based on
geographic location, and Homo ferus (wild man) and homo monstrosus (monster man) (Fish, 2011).
He further tried to make scientific sense of life by assigning traits to each of these categories. Racial
stereotyping has derived from this concept of Linnaeus taxonomy, with static conceptions of a
particular race that does not allow for individual variation and intergradations (Fish, 2011). Australia

Hydrogen Gas Lab
Hydrogen Gas Produced from Metals and Acids
Abstract
Experiments 2 1 and 2 2 study the production of hydrogen gas by different chemical reactions. By
using a hydrogen gas collection apparatus and the principles of chemistry, we were able to evaluate
the data and reach our goal. Experiment 2 1 uses zinc, magnesium and aluminum and how much
hydrogen gas they produce to predict the volume of hydrogen gas produced for different masses of
each metal. In this experiment we see that each metal has an increasing amount of hydrogen gas as
mass goes up, however each metal had different amount of hydrogen gas for the same mass. Zinc
produced the least amount of hydrogen gas, then increasing with magnesium, and aluminum produced
the highest amount. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was an increasing trend because the metal was the limiting reactant in this experiment. The
amount of each metal placed in the hydrochloric acid was fully used up before the acid was. From
Figure 1, it is clear that aluminum produced the most amount of hydrogen gas, then magnesium in the
middle and zinc produced the least amount of hydrogen gas. This shows that the same mass of each
metal does not produce the same amount of hydrogen gas. Looking at the balanced equations for each
of the metals (see lab 2 1, equation 1 and 2), it seems the metals have a similar stoichiometry, however
zinc produced a lesser amount of hydrogen gas compared to magnesium because zinc has a higher
molar mass than magnesium does. Due to this, more zinc is needed to produce the same amount of
hydrogen gas as magnesium. When aluminum and magnesium are compared, it is seen that aluminum
and magnesium have similar molar masses, however they have a different stoichiometry (experiment 2
1, equation 1 and 3). Two moles of aluminum react to produce three moles of hydrogen gas, while one
mole of magnesium react to produce one mole of hydrogen gas. Based on this stoichiometry, a higher
mass of magnesium is needed to produce the same amount of hydrogen gas as

The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner Research Paper
In Samuel Tayler Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Coleridge uses many supernatural,
macabre, and Gothic elements to get his theme across to the reader. These elements include: the
strange weather, the Albatross, Death and Life in Death, the multiple spirits, the madness of the pilot
and his boy. In The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the weather goes through some strange and
inexplicable changes. The weather is fine until the Mariner s unnamed ship reaches the equator, and
then it turns nasty. The storm that overtakes them is described as a giant beast with huge wings that
strike the ship and drive it toward the South Pole. Just as Coleridge takes a leaf from Sam I Am s book
and says that the ice was here, the ice was there, / The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the Mariner learns to pray, he sleeps for a long time and when he wakes up it rains and the dead
bodies of his crewmates are possessed by angelic spirits sent down to him by Mary. These angelic
crew members take up their previous posts and sail the ship. The ship is driven forward by the Spirit
of the South Pole, who is forced to by the angelic spirits residing in the ship s crew and it travels nine
fathoms under the ship. As the ship is traveling along, friends of the Spirit of the South Pole converse
with each other The Spirit of the South Pole cannot stay with the ship forever though so it charges two
other spirits with the burden of speeding the ship along its journey. These two new spirits make the
ship travel so fast, that they put the Mariner in a trance because they were travelling at a speed so fast
that no human life could withstand it. The use of spirits is meant to show that those who are followers
of God have dominion over things that are not God fearing. This explains why the Spirit of the South
Pole drove the ship onward in compliance with the orders of the angelic crew even though it did not
want to (Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Fourth Grade Justification Report
Angel Villavicencio and I Luis. Alvarenga will be heading to Landers Elementary school to present
the fourth grade class taught by Ms. McCall information about Earth and its ecosystem. As we go into
each presentation, we will question the students to see how they are gathering and receiving the
information. We will be going to the class for four days spending fifteen minutes each day. We will
use the materials provided in the room such as the whiteboard to get our information through to the
students.
Our parents will provide us transportation to and from the school. In doing this my partner and I hope
to spark something in this generation of children and inspire them to protect the Earth. We will show
an example of the expectations of high school and work that will need to be done. The children of this
generation will be our future, so we need to teach them while they are ... Show more content on

Any data we gather will probably be in the form of simple small classroom activities. Some activities
will be class questions, visual presentations, and songs. We will have a small fun worksheet at the end
of each day to measure the effort each child puts into their work. On the fourth day a fun mini project
will be done by the entire class to benefit the environment and school campus.
The small assignments we provide will be fun work for the fourth graders and we hope they have fun.
We have the permission to go to that school from the teacher. Our health will not only benefit us by
our grade, but also learn how the kids think about the ecosystem. Problems we might face during the
project will be the kids being loud and not listening to us. I really hope they don t because then doing
this project will be an issue. We really want to know what the kid s opinion is going to be either they

Comparing Augustine de Hippo and Mohammed to the Idea of a...
Greek and Roman cultural values pervaded the Western religious society and made it possible for a
series of Christian and Muslim religious individuals to be associated with historic figures present in
Ancient Greece and Rome. While the modern society has a different understanding of the concept of
the traditional hero, society during the early centuries perceived heroes as being individuals who
possessed a series of attributes related to religious ideas and to a general attitude that promoted moral
behavior. Individuals like Augustine de Hippo and Mohammed have come to be seen as having
several attributes that linked them to the idea of the classic Greek hero.
It is surely surprising that religion has adopted a pagan Greek term with the purpose of trying to
describe some of its most notable figures. It is not necessarily that Augustine de Hippo and
Mohammed were considered to possess superhuman abilities, as people came to associate them with
heroes because they were dedicated to assisting the masses and because they were predisposed to
doing good.
In addition to being perceived as one of the most important attributes in a saint, heroism actually
started to be praised by Christians as one of the principal qualities in any true Christian. Augustine de
Hippo basically believed that in order to be seen by God as a person who was capable to serve
divinity, the respective individual needed to be familiar with the attitudes that he or she needed to put
across and with the fact

Essay On The Deaths Of Romeo And Juliet
Throughout time, there have been many tragedies caused by romance. William Shakespeare s Romeo
and Juliet is an example of a romantic tragedy, in which two feuding families cause the deaths of their
children, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. The play contrasts hatred and revenge with love and a
secret marriage, ending with the young lovers tragically dying. The deaths of Romeo and Juliet can be
blamed upon Friar Lawrence, the parents of Romeo and Juliet, and Tybalt. To begin, Romeo and Juliet
s deaths should be blamed upon Friar Lawrence. In the play, Romeo asks Friar Lawrence to marry him
to Juliet. The friar tells Romeo to slow down and think about this decision, but he still agrees to marry
them. Shakespeare writes, I ll thy assistant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They may feel that Romeo and Juliet should have made better, more rational decisions because the
evidence shows that after they meet, they want to be married immediately, but keep it a secret from
everyone in Verona (Ⅱ.iii.57 64). However, the deaths of these teenagers should be blamed upon the
parents of Romeo and Juliet because they wouldn t have to make those decisions if the parents
ongoing feud was not existent. The text shows, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny/... And the
continuance of their parents rage,/ Which, but their children s end, naught could remove (Prologue.3
11). This explains the parents are the reason for all the bad decisions because their feud only ended
because their children died. In addition, after Romeo and Juliet are found dead, the parents and Prince
discuss the situation. According to the play, the Prince states, See what a scourge is laid upon your
hate,/ That heaven finds means to kill your joys with love (Ⅴ.iii.291 293). The quote indicates Prince
is telling the parents that if they had ended the feud or never had it no of this would have happened.
Therefore, the parents of Romeo and Juliet should be held accountable for the deaths of the two
teenagers because of their unnecessary

Importance Of Coral Reefs
Coral reefs are a very important to our ecosystem and our earth. The ocean contains many different
types of coral reefs containing a wide variety of living things. Although, every day, it seems that our
coral reefs are becoming endangered. While these coral reefs are important to us, they are in great
danger of being nonexistent.
First of all, a coral reef is defined as a ridge of rock in the sea formed by the growth and deposit of
coral. Coral reefs are a diverse underwater ecosystem held together by calcium carbonate structures.
They are created by colonies of tiny animals and organisms found in marine water. These animals and
organisms contain nutrients needed to help the process of coral reef formation. These reefs begin to

and stronger. Then in the reefs, are also seagrasses. These seagrasses can grow very rapidly growing,
and in return, they help trap sediment loads near the reefs. The seagrass can also provide a habitat for
smaller fish, invertebrate animals, sea turtles, and even manatees. One of the final plants is the
mangroves. Mangroves are plants that can help support a very wide range of reef fishes and other

Bajaj vs Lml
BAJAJ VS LML
A Comparative Analysis
In today s world the two wheeler segment is a very competitive industry and there is a very stiff
competition among the various companies. There have been many two wheeler companies in India
present in the market since a long time, some have been able to transform itself and cope with the
modern market and some have faded away into the past. Companies like Hero Honda, Bajaj and TVS
have transformed themselves into major giants, while companies like LML and Rajdoot have failed
miserably and collapsed and had to shutdown. So in our case study we are taking into consideration
two such companies like Bajaj and LML which have been there from the very beginning and trying to
analyse why Bajaj was a huge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a larger selection of two wheelers on the Indian market, consumers started to gain influence over
the products they bought and raised higher customer expectations. The industry produced more
models, styling options, prices, and different fuel efficiencies. The foreign companies new
technologies helped make the products more reliable and with better quality. Indian companies had to
change to keep up with their global counterparts.
Motorbikes are a major segment of Indian two wheeler industry, the other two being scooters and
mopeds. Indian companies are among the largest two wheeler manufacturers in the world.
In the initial stages, the scooter segment was dominated by API; it was later overtaken by Bajaj Auto
and LML. Although various government and private enterprises entered the fray for scooters, the only
new player that has lasted till today is Bajaj.
The motorcycle segment was initially dominated by Enfield 350cc bikes and Escorts 175cc bike.
The two wheeler market was opened to foreign competition in the mid 80s. And the then market
leaders Escorts and Enfield were caught unaware by the onslaught of the 100cc bikes of the four Indo
Japanese joint ventures, namely; Hero Honda, TVS Suzuki, Bajaj Kawasaki and Kinetic Motor
Company (Kinetic Honda). With the availability of fuel efficient low power bikes, demand swelled,

A Research On Open Educational Resource Essay
1. Introduction
Open Educational Resource are teaching, learning and research resources that reside in the public
domain or have been released under an intellectual property license that permits their free use or re

Water is essential to sustain life and maintain ecological systems necessary for human survival; it
plays important roles in ecosystem support, economic development, cultural values and community
well being (Botkin Keller, 2011).
The management of water is referred to as an activity that involves planning, developing, distributing
as well as optimum use of water resources under defined water policies and regulations as well as the
authorization of water uses that may have or potentially have, an impact on water quality; it include
management of potable water treatment, industrial water, wastewater treatment, water resource
management and management of flood protection
(DWS, 2011).
The growing pressure on water resources from population and economic growth, climate change,
pollution and many other challenges has major impacts on our social, economic and environmental
well being. Water management involves management of our water resources

Currently most everywhere in the United States, our legal system penalizes prostitutes and their
customers for what they do as consenting adults. Money is still spent on law enforcement efforts to
catch prostitutes and their customers. Once caught, justice departments have to process these people
through very expensive systems.
What are the end results? Police personnel and courtrooms are overburdened with these cases, having
little or no impact on prostitution. The prostitutes and their customers pay their fines and are back to
the streets in no time in a revolving door process. Catch and release may work for recreational fishing
but it has no deterring affect on prostitution.

safety, of the product. In attempts to prohibit alcohol consumption through the Volstead Act, spending
by the Bureau of Prohibition went from $4.4 million to $13.4 million annually. Spending by the Coast
Guard was an average $13 million per year in the 1920s for prohibition alone [Mark Thornton]. In fact
when per capita costs are analyzed, spending more to curb behavior did literally nothing against
consumption, making a total mockery of law enforcement efforts.
Social irresponsibility of this magnitude during the depression was horrific when considering how
these monies could have been spent to do good for society. Programs could have been developed to
help the unemployed. Healthcare could have been expanded to include social programs to drive down
high suicide rates.
It was thought prohibition would put an end to many social problems but it actually created many
more. Increasing the number of laws runs a risk of creating more criminals, and that is exactly what
had happened. Jails became filled. Government spending to pay for the housing and maintenance of
these criminals went up [Mark Thornton]. Compounded by the lack of intake from alcohol tax, it
placed huge dents on public coffers.
Prohibition caused many problems related to criminal activity. There was a causal link between
prohibition and an increase in homicides. During prohibition, homicide rates increased over 66%.
After prohibition was repealed on Dec. 5, 1933, the homicide rate immediately

Why Is Brutus Justified In Killing Julius Caesar

Cognitive Therapy for Depression

Advantages of Cognitive Therapy Antidepressant medication is the most popular treatment for
depression. Studies have suggested that cognitive therapy of depression might have a significant
advantage over medication in preventing relapses or recurrences (Robinson, 2005). Despite the
alarming prevalence of depression in society, there is yet no completely adequate explanation as to
how or why it occurs (Robinson, 2005). The three major etiological models for understanding
depression are cognitive models (based on the work of Beck Ellis), biological models that link
depression to variance in biochemistry (Robinson, 2005), and diathesis stress models that view
depression as the result of a complex interaction of contextual factors and intra individual factors
(Robinson, 2005). There is some evidence to suggest that once treatment to remission from depression
is terminated that pharmacologically treated patients were twice as likely to relapse than patients
treated with cognitive therapy (Miller, 1989). Many studies have reported evidence of negative
cognitive patterns among depressed individuals. A self deprecating style, negative attitudes toward the
future and negative automatic thoughts frequently are associated with depression (Miller, 1989).

Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman
An Analysis of Tragic Heroism of Biff Loman in Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
This literary study will define the tragic heroism of Biff Loman in Arthur Miller s play The Death of a
Salesman. Biff is initially a victim of Willy s continual harassment to make more money and find a
better career. In this family unit, Biff must endure the unrealistic and fantasy based elusions of his
father in his fanatical pursuit of the American Dream. However, Biff soon learns of Willy s extra
marital betrayal to his mother, which allows him to experience an epiphany against the self deception
of his father s abusive fantasy world. Biffs tragic role in this family is found in the ability to accept
reality and overcome the victim role imposed on him by his father. This tragic aspect of Biffs heroism
defines a single voice of reason in a self deceiving family unit, which defines his liberation from his
father s tyrannical behavior. In essence, Biffs tragic heroism will be examined by analyzing the
journey towards self realization in Arthur Miller s The Death of a Salesman. The beginning of Miller s
play presents Willy Loman, a failed salesman that is continually putting pressure on his children to get
better jobs and make more money. Willy s pursuit of the American Dream exploits Biff and Happy as
a type of retirement plan in this materialistic mindset: You ll retire me for life on seventy goddamn

superstition. Medicine remained attached to astrology and other beliefs such as the supernatural.
Elizabethan times was the era in which Queen Elizabeth I and Shakespeare lived. However the times
were very unsanitary. People threw their trash out the window and if their dog or cat died, they would
throw that out the window also. When it rained, cats and dogs would flow down the street. This is
where the quote Raining cats and dogs derived. Because of all of these things, health was a major
concern in Elizabethan England. Poor sanitation and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amounts of these fluids determined a person s physical or mental health. A person with a
dominant presence of blood was supposedly happy and generous. A dominance of yellow bile meant
that the person was violent and vengeful. An excess of phlegm resulted in a person being dull, pale
and cowardly. Black bile justified someone s laziness. The three main organs in the body according to
the Elizabethans were the heart, liver, and the brain. The liver was considered the great blood forming,
nutrition giving organ from which the four fluids arose. It was also considered the origin of the veins
which spread throughout the body. Elizabethans believed the heart to be the center of life. The heart
was the place of affections and emotions joy, anger, hope, fear, etc., and the source of the soul. The
brain was the place of reason, memory, and imagination.
Many physicians in Elizabethan England held medical degrees from Oxford or Cambridge University.
They studied the works of ancient Greek physicians Hippocrates and Galen. Ancient medical
knowledge was high respected, and doctors were warned against excessive experimentation. After
completing their studies, every new doctor was examined by the Royal College of Physicians before
receiving a license to practice medicine. Back then, physicians were associated with the Catholic
Church and they had been forbidden to shed blood. Therefore, practices

Salisbury Sage Diner s Character Analysis
I had just turned ten when my mom first took me to the Salisbury Chess Club. The dilapidated Sage
Diner dressed as if it were in the 50s (Absolute), I was immediately enamored by the chess pieces.
Soon, I established a reputation for myself as a capricious, impatient tactician able to beat all but the
most experienced players. I played with one of the better players, Phil (Appositive), almost every
week. Through those games, I learned many values, like patience and carefulness, that not only apply
to chess but also to life. One late Autumn Wednesday night, after my mom and I had just settled in the
Sage Diner (Preposition), I noticed that there were only a few players. Two of them had already began
a game, so I asked Phil for a chess game.

Behavior Of Rural Consumers Towards Mobile Phones Essay
AN ANALYTIC STUDY TO EVALUATE BEHAVIOUR OF RURAL CONSUMERS TOWARDS
MOBILE PHONES
1.0 Introduction The future lies with those companies who see the poor as their customers
C.K.Prahalad
Villages are an integral part of nation. They become even more important in the Asian and African
context, where a majority of population is residing in rural areas.
For centuries the rural world in India was static as a self sufficient unit of production and
consumption, but it is no longer so. The rural setting is changing every day, with the corporate sector
acting both as the carrier and bearer of the consequences of this change which is happening at an
accelerating rate. Demographic profiles and spending patterns in rural India too are changing and
marketers have to junk their old perception about rural India. Rural consumers who were on the
receiving end so far are now gradually getting into position to dictate terms for the first time. Although
there is a long way to go, the beginning has already been made.
Corporate world needs to realize that, to be successful in the rural market, they must go in with a clear
long term strategy. There must be a willingness to invest in rural market with as much energy as they
utilise to build brands in the urban one. Since rural efforts take longer to give sustained results, they
must be prepared for a long haul. Short term efforts may not deliver the desired results on a sustained
basis in rural areas.

The Industrial Revolution and Imperialism Essay
The concept of imperialism is one that has pervaded nearly every major society or empire throughout
human history. It seems to be a natural consequence of societies growing in size, power, and
knowledge. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries vast changes occurred in Western Europe (and
soon spread elsewhere) that spurred a new round of imperialism the likes of which had not been seen
before. The changes were the industrial revolution that was taking place. Countries were rapidly
advancing to industrial societies producing much greater quantities of goods at much lower costs. The
goods produced ranged everywhere from cotton textiles to military machinery, all of which would
play important roles in rounds of imperialistic expansion that ... Show more content on

An example of this situation occurred involving Britain and India where British merchants exported
great quantities of cotton to England where it would be refined and made into end products for export.
This same situation arose with nearly every other natural resource one could imagine. The world is
abundant with natural resources all from different regions, and European nations saw it as their
opportunity for the taking. Another very important result of the industrial revolution was the
advancement of European weaponry. It was mentioned in a previous module for this course how
something of an arms race began in Western Europe as the societies were separating into different
empires and nations. That would continue with European weapons advancing far beyond what any
other societies could match, there is even the example of a small number of British soldiers defeating
thousands of African soldiers in a matter of hours due to the invention of the maxim gun. The
evolution of European weaponry played several important roles in relation to imperialism. European
weaponry first and foremost made it possible for those nations to dominate indigenous people to
submit to their will in terms of trade. It even opened up new regions such as Japan that had previously
only allowed very minor outside trade. With steamboats that could navigate upstream British soldiers
were able to traverse up the Yangtze River and

A Summary Of The First Great Awakening
Described as theologically significant, The First Great Awakening (c. 1735 1743) was the beginning of
a revitalization that hit the American colonies by storm. It began to form once religion had eased down
and preachers began to take an emotional foot in religion and increasing liberalism Armenia (free will)
ideals began to form. George Whitefield, a circuit rider who preached spiritual awakening, and
Jonathan Edwards, imposed fear in people by claiming God had already chosen who get his salvation,
were the main contributors to the First Great Awakening. The Second Great Awakening (c.1795 1830)
was experienced across the country due to the advancement in the nation s economic growth.
Preachers often spoke emotionally about their message to increase the reaction in people. Preaches
proclaimed that the power of eternal salvation is in the hands of the person to decided to be saved and
avoid eternal damnation. This ideals were closest related/influenced by Arminianism which sinfulness
is a choice rather than a destiny in which it appealed to more people because of its optimistic outlook.
The First Great Awakening changed religious ideology by promoting Calvinist ideals and
individualism amongst people; The Second Great Awakening promoted salvation and damnation at the
expense of the person true willingness to be saved, positive female roles in the church and the infusion
of lower classes with higher classes; both transforming the methods of worship to become more

Altruistic Nature Of Don s Relationship
Every morning, Don wakes up shortly after midnight to prepare for an eight hour workshift. Shortly
after, he leaves his house and makes his way to the local post office, where he works as a mail carrier.
By nine o clock he has clocked out and is on his way to work another full work day as a self employed
arborist of sorts. From then until dusk, he hustles around central Indiana completing his daily list of
jobs and tasks. At the end of the day, he finally returns home where he spends an hour or so with his
wife and children before calling going to bed to rest before another cycle of work. But what does it
matter that some guy in some corn growing city delivers mail and cuts down trees? Well, Don has
utilized his work and the attitude he approaches his work with as a means of expressing his moral and
spiritual principles as well as a tool for influencing members of his family and community.
Don expresses his love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, his motive can often be misinterpreted as he speaks with insensitivity. wears an intense
expression on his face and , frequently, oversteps social boundaries, his approach to social interaction
enables him to express his concern for others. Don s blunt responses, for example, enable him to be
completely honest with his family and co workers. At the same time, his threatening facial expressions
demonstrate the passion and thought put into his words. Most importantly, lacking a fear of hurting
another person s feelings, Don is able to overcome the restrictions of polite conversation and clearly
deliver the truth to whomever he is speaking. His rude remarks and borderline impolite phrases
demonstrate that he loves his family and friends so much that he is willing to hurt their feelings to
ultimately build them up to be better people. He has taught me that accepting the consequences of
truth is worth building strong relationships founded on the values of

Reflection Paper On Learning
Reflection on Learning As I reflect on both scientifically based research and action research, I am
truly amazed at how much I have learned. I knew what research was and how to use it but I didn t
really know how important they are until I took this course. I am the expert when it comes to my
students and my classroom, so I need to be very involved in what and how things are taught. In order,
to be involved I need to be the one in the for front of the scientifically based research or action
research. What I have learned from this course, to be the most powerful and something that I am going
to take with me is Action research is a professional development strategy that puts the teacher at the
center of the professional development process. (Gould, 2008, p. 5) How Research Can Affect
Teaching at the Classroom Level Scientifically based research can improve any classroom teaching by
being able to teach what works. One of the many roles that a teacher plays is that of a scientist, not
only do teachers decide what and how things are to be taught, teachers evaluate, assess and reassess
each program that is brought into the classroom. No one knows better than teachers about the
challenges they face and the type of support they need. (Gould, 2008, p. 5) Action research can
improve classroom teaching by giving the teacher time to reflect or examine deeply what they are
doing or presenting. Action research allows the teacher to be active in their work. Teachers can

Galveston Hurricane
In the turn of the new century, the people of Galveston were faced with a grim reminder. The event
that destroyed the small island of Galveston, the Galveston Hurricane, had many social, political, and
economic impacts that made this storm life changing. The Galveston Hurricane of 1900 improved
Texas for the better and helped Galveston grow stronger as a city. The society of Galveston suffered
greatly after the hurricane in both good and bad ways. The people of Galveston lost almost everything
they had; everything was nearly ruined. As stated by Ida Smith Austin, Mov. 6, 1900, during the storm
planks and debris were thrown around in the air and water flooded homes. Many survivors of the
storm lost almost everything they had, this formed

Disadvantages Of Sexual Harassment
Think about having to be forced or coerced to demeaning and misappropriate conduct day in and out
because you fear losing your job or being demoted to a less desirable position. Focus on how many
victims of sexual harassment underwent calling out sick so that they would not have to be manipulated
into doing acts that were degrading and immoral with someone they believed they could trust, like
their supervisor. Moreover, walking into an atmosphere where work is not fun, but stressful and causes
you much anguish and dissatisfaction, only because you are having to undergo much discomfort and
shameful acts. Further, think about the thought of walking into your office everyday in anxiety and
fear because you need your job and want your job. However, but you did not ask for the unwelcome
sexual gestures, inappropriate touching, pressure to perform certain unlawful duties or be given
stipulations such as do as you are told and instructed or be terminated. All the more, this is what many
of the past case victims were accustomed to and subjected to each day while in the workplace.
Consequently, this is what many victims of sexual harassment endure each day because they are too
afraid to stand up and say anything to anyone because of fear of not being believed, afraid of losing
their jobs, or generally because they were not sure what could be done.
Even before sexual harassment and retaliation become widely known terms it was very much present
and prevalent in many organizations.

Navigating The Kitchens Was Surprisingly Easy
Navigating the kitchens was surprisingly easy. People were running around, focusing so much of their
attention on their own duties that they didn t even think twice about Maela and Ralan walking
through. The guild in charge of cooking was under the Harvest Guild, so green tunics and robes were
everywhere, although there was the occasional white of a knight. There were no blue merchants or
others in the yellow of the Craft Guild.
They were only stopped once, and that was by a Harvest Guild member. Ralan s explanation of broken
equipment needing fixed resulted in nothing more than a comment of Hurry up, dinner will be served
soon.
They had turned down yet another hallway when Ralan leaned over and whispered to Maela, Those
two with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The carafes shattered on the floor, covering it in glass.
You idiots! You have ruined my dress whites! Enraged, the knight turned to the two Harvest guild
members who were issuing a stream of apologies.
Maela tugged on Ralan s arm, and they briskly walked past the knight, who had completely forgotten
about them.
When they were well past the knight, Ralan whispered, Did you plan for them to escort us?
People are clumsy, she replied, not even trying to hide her smile.
The defenses here aren t very good, Ralan noted as he and Maela looked through the door of the
prison dining hall. Prisoners were actually fed in their cells, so the hall itself was more of a room for
the jailors and a large prep area for taking food to the prisoners.
Maela turned and glared at Ralan. Nothing is ever easy. Don t forget that. Without a plan you would
have been captured in the Flats, on the Circle, and in the hallway back there. Maela took a breath and
then softened her voice. But you are correct about the defenses. But what is there to defend? The
prisons are well guarded, and who would attack the Knight Tower? They continued on.
The other side of the prison kitchen dining hall opened up to hallway off of the main atrium of the
prison part of the Tower. Unlike the small, cramped kitchen halls, the halls of the Tower proper were
wide and imposing. Knights walked through them at regular intervals. Also unlike the kitchen halls,
there weren t any other guild members in the Tower

Teaching Styles, Learning Styles, and Cultural Location in...
Teaching Styles, Learning Styles, and Cultural Location in Relation to Academic Success The
mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great
teacher inspires. William Arthur Ward. Every teacher is different and teaches differently, but when it
comes to academic success of students, how do the teaching styles affect the overall outcome of the
student success. Although teaching styles and learning styles have a massive role to play and academic
success, so does cultural location. Teaching styles will form students learning behavior and how they
see their future. Teaching styles meshed with learning style of an individual student is the biggest
predictor of students academic success in all cultural locations. There are many ideas for what happens
in the classroom although many believe that teaching styles will affect the academic success within a
classroom based upon a teacher and his or her own beliefs and influences. We all have our own beliefs
and values which may be different from another s. Because beliefs influence teacher action, and
context influences beliefs, it seems logical that national context would influence teachers use of and
beliefs about Mosston s Spectrum of Teaching Styles. (Kitsantas, Panagiota). Every teacher has a
different form of influence and that influence will affect their own personal teaching style. Due to this
not every single teacher has the same ways of teaching. Sometimes unknown to the

The Gold Standard Peter Ferra Summary
The author, Peter Ferrara, opens the article by introducing his topic: the gold standard. He explains
that today s Americans have no true conception of what the gold standard is, blaming this on modern
media and lack of education. The author then begins to shape an argument by discussing the history of
the gold standard in the United States thoroughly. He points out the insignificant effect that tying the
U.S. dollar to gold had on inflation, and uses phrases from the Constitution to support the
implementation of the gold standard. Later in the article, Ferrara uses historical statistics involving the
value of the dollar to exemplify the negative effect of abandoning the gold standard on the United
States economy. He continues to support his argument by giving modern examples of economic
failure as a result of the U.S. dollar not being supported by gold. ... Show more content on

His reasons revolve around the effect that the gold standard would have on the American people if
reinstated. The author claims there would be no inflation on working wages, and investments in
America would increase, since the value of money would not change. Lower tax rates and increased
savings would cause an increase in American capital investment, leading to holistic growth in the U.S.
economy. Ferrara s evidence is even more convincing. In the article, the author compares the value of
gold and the dollar before the abandonment of the gold standard to today s values, stressing the
weakening power of the U.S. dollar. He then demonstrates the difference in economic growth before
and after America released the gold standard, stating When America was on the gold standard, the real
rate of economic growth averaged nearly 4% a year. Since then real annual growth has stagnated at
about 25% less. His evidence is both convincing and useful in supporting his

  • 2. Race Theories And Its Consequences Race has evolved through the scientific endeavor to forward knowledge, from a categorisation of people based on geographic origin and physical traits, to a hierarchical concept that is used as a tool to racially vilify, discriminate and marginalize particular races. The term race was introduced in the 16th century and referred to a group category of people (Smedley, 1999). From then, the concept of race was scrutinized and redefined by the western world. America bought about the concept of race present in modern day, however the intellectual framework that served as a guide was European (Brace, 2005). Understanding of the evolution of race theories and its consequences are crucial to analyse how contemporary Indigenous Peoples are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the use of visual art to portray ideas is more connected to Indigenous cultures than imposed western political and academic settings. This essay will critically discuss the work of Carl Linnaeus, Johann Friedrich Blumenbach and Charles Darwin in defining race and its application to Indigenous Australians. Followed by, analysis of the works of contemporary artists, Richard Bell, Bindi Cole, Bronwyn Bancroft, Daniel Boyd, Michael Riley, Gordon Bennett and Lin Onus in challenging the effects social constructions of race have had on Indigenous peoples. These issues include authenticity, homogenous stereotyping, racial hierarchy and discrimination. Carolus Linnaeus (1707 78), a Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist, is known for his taxonomic system, which laid the foundations of the modern biological categorization (Brace, 2005). His ambition was to make order the chaos of biological life based on distinctiveness and established categories of generic and specific names. It divided humans into six categories; four based on geographic location, and Homo ferus (wild man) and homo monstrosus (monster man) (Fish, 2011). He further tried to make scientific sense of life by assigning traits to each of these categories. Racial stereotyping has derived from this concept of Linnaeus taxonomy, with static conceptions of a particular race that does not allow for individual variation and intergradations (Fish, 2011). Australia was colonized at a time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By using a hydrogen gas collection apparatus and the principles of chemistry, we were able to evaluate the data and reach our goal. Experiment 2 1 uses zinc, magnesium and aluminum and how much hydrogen gas they produce to predict the volume of hydrogen gas produced for different masses of each metal. In this experiment we see that each metal has an increasing amount of hydrogen gas as mass goes up, however each metal had different amount of hydrogen gas for the same mass. Zinc produced the least amount of hydrogen gas, then increasing with magnesium, and aluminum produced the highest amount. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was an increasing trend because the metal was the limiting reactant in this experiment. The amount of each metal placed in the hydrochloric acid was fully used up before the acid was. From Figure 1, it is clear that aluminum produced the most amount of hydrogen gas, then magnesium in the middle and zinc produced the least amount of hydrogen gas. This shows that the same mass of each metal does not produce the same amount of hydrogen gas. Looking at the balanced equations for each of the metals (see lab 2 1, equation 1 and 2), it seems the metals have a similar stoichiometry, however zinc produced a lesser amount of hydrogen gas compared to magnesium because zinc has a higher molar mass than magnesium does. Due to this, more zinc is needed to produce the same amount of hydrogen gas as magnesium. When aluminum and magnesium are compared, it is seen that aluminum and magnesium have similar molar masses, however they have a different stoichiometry (experiment 2 1, equation 1 and 3). Two moles of aluminum react to produce three moles of hydrogen gas, while one mole of magnesium react to produce one mole of hydrogen gas. Based on this stoichiometry, a higher mass of magnesium is needed to produce the same amount of hydrogen gas as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner Research Paper In Samuel Tayler Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Coleridge uses many supernatural, macabre, and Gothic elements to get his theme across to the reader. These elements include: the strange weather, the Albatross, Death and Life in Death, the multiple spirits, the madness of the pilot and his boy. In The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the weather goes through some strange and inexplicable changes. The weather is fine until the Mariner s unnamed ship reaches the equator, and then it turns nasty. The storm that overtakes them is described as a giant beast with huge wings that strike the ship and drive it toward the South Pole. The ship is driven forward by the Spirit of the South Pole, who is forced to by the angelic spirits residing in the ship s crew and it travels nine fathoms under the ship. As the ship is traveling along, friends of the Spirit of the South Pole converse with each other The Spirit of the South Pole cannot stay with the ship forever though so it charges two other spirits with the burden of speeding the ship along its journey. These two new spirits make the ship travel so fast, that they put the Mariner in a trance because they were travelling at a speed so fast that no human life could withstand it. The use of spirits is meant to show that those who are followers of God have dominion over things that are not God fearing. • 6. Comparing Augustine de Hippo and Mohammed to the Idea of a... Greek and Roman cultural values pervaded the Western religious society and made it possible for a series of Christian and Muslim religious individuals to be associated with historic figures present in Ancient Greece and Rome. While the modern society has a different understanding of the concept of the traditional hero, society during the early centuries perceived heroes as being individuals who possessed a series of attributes related to religious ideas and to a general attitude that promoted moral behavior. Individuals like Augustine de Hippo and Mohammed have come to be seen as having several attributes that linked them to the idea of the classic Greek hero. It is surely surprising that religion has adopted a pagan Greek term with the purpose of trying to describe some of its most notable figures. It is not necessarily that Augustine de Hippo and Mohammed were considered to possess superhuman abilities, as people came to associate them with heroes because they were dedicated to assisting the masses and because they were predisposed to doing good. In addition to being perceived as one of the most important attributes in a saint, heroism actually started to be praised by Christians as one of the principal qualities in any true Christian. Augustine de Hippo basically believed that in order to be seen by God as a person who was capable to serve divinity, the respective individual needed to be familiar with the attitudes that he or she needed to put across and with the fact ... William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is an example of a romantic tragedy, in which two feuding families cause the deaths of their children, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. The play contrasts hatred and revenge with love and a secret marriage, ending with the young lovers tragically dying. The deaths of Romeo and Juliet can be blamed upon Friar Lawrence, the parents of Romeo and Juliet, and Tybalt. To begin, Romeo and Juliet s deaths should be blamed upon Friar Lawrence. The text shows, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny/... And the continuance of their parents rage,/ Which, but their children s end, naught could remove (Prologue.3 11). This explains the parents are the reason for all the bad decisions because their feud only ended because their children died. In addition, after Romeo and Juliet are found dead, the parents and Prince discuss the situation. According to the play, the Prince states, See what a scourge is laid upon your hate,/ That heaven finds means to kill your joys with love (Ⅴ.iii.291 293). The three major etiological models for understanding depression are cognitive models (based on the work of Beck Ellis), biological models that link depression to variance in biochemistry (Robinson, 2005), and diathesis stress models that view depression as the result of a complex interaction of contextual factors and intra individual factors (Robinson, 2005). There is some evidence to suggest that once treatment to remission from depression is terminated that pharmacologically treated patients were twice as likely to relapse than patients treated with cognitive therapy (Miller, 1989). Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman An Analysis of Tragic Heroism of Biff Loman in Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller This literary study will define the tragic heroism of Biff Loman in Arthur Miller s play The Death of a Salesman. Biff is initially a victim of Willy s continual harassment to make more money and find a better career. In this family unit, Biff must endure the unrealistic and fantasy based elusions of his father in his fanatical pursuit of the American Dream. However, Biff soon learns of Willy s extra marital betrayal to his mother, which allows him to experience an epiphany against the self deception of his father s abusive fantasy world. Biffs tragic role in this family is found in the ability to accept reality and overcome the victim role imposed on him by his father. This tragic aspect of Biffs heroism defines a single voice of reason in a self deceiving family unit, which defines his liberation from his father s tyrannical behavior. In essence, Biffs tragic heroism will be examined by analyzing the journey towards self realization in Arthur Miller s The Death of a Salesman. The beginning of Miller s play presents Willy Loman, a failed salesman that is continually putting pressure on his children to get better jobs and make more money. When people watch war movies or television shows, they tend to act more aggressively. For young children, it is something they want to copy in real life when they play with friends. People more likely to mimic what they saw on media and copy the behavior in real life. There are some criminals who are not socially friendly, watch violence television shows or play war games, go out and kill others just like when they playing games. Some people have trouble differentiating the real life and the media world. If I were to advice parents or lawmaker, set the age limit to each media shows which they are doing now. Medicine remained attached to astrology and other beliefs such as the supernatural. Elizabethan times was the era in which Queen Elizabeth I and Shakespeare lived. The three main organs in the body according to the Elizabethans were the heart, liver, and the brain. The liver was considered the great blood forming, nutrition giving organ from which the four fluids arose. It was also considered the origin of the veins which spread throughout the body. • 22. Salisbury Sage Diner s Character Analysis I had just turned ten when my mom first took me to the Salisbury Chess Club. The dilapidated Sage Diner dressed as if it were in the 50s (Absolute), I was immediately enamored by the chess pieces. Soon, I established a reputation for myself as a capricious, impatient tactician able to beat all but the most experienced players. I played with one of the better players, Phil (Appositive), almost every week. Through those games, I learned many values, like patience and carefulness, that not only apply to chess but also to life. One late Autumn Wednesday night, after my mom and I had just settled in the Sage Diner (Preposition), I noticed that there were only a few players. Two of them had already began a game, so I asked Phil for a chess game. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Behavior Of Rural Consumers Towards Mobile Phones Essay AN ANALYTIC STUDY TO EVALUATE BEHAVIOUR OF RURAL CONSUMERS TOWARDS MOBILE PHONES 1.0 Introduction The future lies with those companies who see the poor as their customers C.K.Prahalad Villages are an integral part of nation. They become even more important in the Asian and African context, where a majority of population is residing in rural areas. For centuries the rural world in India was static as a self sufficient unit of production and consumption, but it is no longer so. The rural setting is changing every day, with the corporate sector acting both as the carrier and bearer of the consequences of this change which is happening at an accelerating rate. Demographic profiles and spending patterns in rural India too are changing and marketers have to junk their old perception about rural India. Rural consumers who were on the receiving end so far are now gradually getting into position to dictate terms for the first time. Although there is a long way to go, the beginning has already been made. Corporate world needs to realize that, to be successful in the rural market, they must go in with a clear long term strategy. There must be a willingness to invest in rural market with as much energy as they utilise to build brands in the urban one. Since rural efforts take longer to give sustained results, they must be prepared for a long haul. Short term efforts may not deliver the desired results on a sustained basis in rural areas. A ... • 25. The Industrial Revolution and Imperialism Essay The concept of imperialism is one that has pervaded nearly every major society or empire throughout human history. It seems to be a natural consequence of societies growing in size, power, and knowledge. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries vast changes occurred in Western Europe (and soon spread elsewhere) that spurred a new round of imperialism the likes of which had not been seen before. The changes were the industrial revolution that was taking place. Countries were rapidly advancing to industrial societies producing much greater quantities of goods at much lower costs. The goods produced ranged everywhere from cotton textiles to military machinery, all of which would play important roles in rounds of imperialistic expansion that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this situation occurred involving Britain and India where British merchants exported great quantities of cotton to England where it would be refined and made into end products for export. This same situation arose with nearly every other natural resource one could imagine. The world is abundant with natural resources all from different regions, and European nations saw it as their opportunity for the taking. Another very important result of the industrial revolution was the advancement of European weaponry. It was mentioned in a previous module for this course how something of an arms race began in Western Europe as the societies were separating into different empires and nations. That would continue with European weapons advancing far beyond what any other societies could match, there is even the example of a small number of British soldiers defeating thousands of African soldiers in a matter of hours due to the invention of the maxim gun. The evolution of European weaponry played several important roles in relation to imperialism. European weaponry first and foremost made it possible for those nations to dominate indigenous people to submit to their will in terms of trade. It even opened up new regions such as Japan that had previously only allowed very minor outside trade. With steamboats that could navigate upstream British soldiers were able to traverse up the Yangtze River and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Gould, 2008, p. 5) How Research Can Affect Teaching at the Classroom Level Scientifically based research can improve any classroom teaching by being able to teach what works. One of the many roles that a teacher plays is that of a scientist, not only do teachers decide what and how things are to be taught, teachers evaluate, assess and reassess each program that is brought into the classroom. No one knows better than teachers about the challenges they face and the type of support they need. People were running around, focusing so much of their attention on their own duties that they didn t even think twice about Maela and Ralan walking through. The guild in charge of cooking was under the Harvest Guild, so green tunics and robes were everywhere, although there was the occasional white of a knight. There were no blue merchants or others in the yellow of the Craft Guild. They were only stopped once, and that was by a Harvest Guild member. When they were well past the knight, Ralan whispered, Did you plan for them to escort us? People are clumsy, she replied, not even trying to hide her smile. The defenses here aren t very good, Ralan noted as he and Maela looked through the door of the prison dining hall. Prisoners were actually fed in their cells, so the hall itself was more of a room for the jailors and a large prep area for taking food to the prisoners. Maela turned and glared at Ralan. Nothing is ever easy. Don t forget that. Without a plan you would have been captured in the Flats, on the Circle, and in the hallway back there. Maela took a breath and then softened her voice. But you are correct about the defenses. But what is there to defend? The prisons are well guarded, and who would attack the Knight Tower? They continued on. The other side of the prison kitchen dining hall opened up to hallway off of the main atrium of the prison part of the Tower. He explains that today s Americans have no true conception of what the gold standard is, blaming this on modern media and lack of education. The author then begins to shape an argument by discussing the history of the gold standard in the United States thoroughly. He points out the insignificant effect that tying the U.S. dollar to gold had on inflation, and uses phrases from the Constitution to support the implementation of the gold standard. Later in the article, Ferrara uses historical statistics involving the value of the dollar to exemplify the negative effect of abandoning the gold standard on the United States economy. He continues to support his argument by giving modern examples of economic failure as a result of the U.S. dollar not being supported by gold. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His reasons revolve around the effect that the gold standard would have on the American people if reinstated. The author claims there would be no inflation on working wages, and investments in America would increase, since the value of money would not change. Lower tax rates and increased savings would cause an increase in American capital investment, leading to holistic growth in the U.S. economy. Ferrara s evidence is even more convincing. In the article, the author compares the value of gold and the dollar before the abandonment of the gold standard to today s values, stressing the weakening power of the U.S. dollar. He then demonstrates the difference in economic growth before and after America released the gold standard, stating When America was on the gold standard, the real rate of economic growth averaged nearly 4% a year.
