Initially, this study aimed to explore the levels of self esteem of early adolescents at the end of primary
school and gender differences regarding self esteem. Secondly, it attempted to examine the type of
coping strategies that early adolescents employ and gender differences regarding the different coping
strategies. The first main finding of this research indicated that the levels of self esteem of the early
adolescents were low, with the female adolescents scoring low on all scales. In addition, both male
and female early adolescents had low levels of self perception regarding scholastic competence,
physical appearance, athletic and job competence, romantic appeal and behavioural conduct. Females
were also found to score significantly lower than males on the domains of global self worth, physical

country as a photographer and I have managed to earn the trust of Iraqi soldiers who are performing
acts of torture on prisoners. According to the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq, Iraq has one of the
world s oldest cultural histories, boasts a rich heritage and has a long reflected cultural diversity.
Although Iraqis generally are a religious and conservative people, there are strong secular tendencies

Torture has always been apart of Iraq s along with many other countries cultures. Even though Iraq
has been a part of the Iraqi people s history, it still goes against the rights of men and women to be
imprisoned with no probable cause and then tortured until the government or another individual can
get information out of the prisoners whether it is true or not.
In Kenny Paul D. article The Meaning of torture , he states that torture is the action or practice of
inflicting severe pain on someone as a punishment or to force them to do or say something. There are
many different types of torture from rape, to both physical and mental torture. According to Mosul
Torture Exposed, prisoners in Iraq were hung from the ceiling with their arms tied behind their backs.
The men and women who are imprisoned, are whipped, shocked, raped, and the Iraqis who were

women if they did not confess to the crimes the men had committed, whether the accusations were
