 In Chapter 7 the following drugs that work on the
respiratory system were broken down into classifications:
 Antibiotic
 Antihistamine
 Antitussive
 Bronchodilator
 Corticosteroids
 Decongestant
 Expectorant
 Mucolytic
 Kill bacteria that cause respiratory infections.
 Some common forms of respiratory antibiotics are
  amoxicillin, penicillin, and minocin.
 Amoxicillin is a commonly prescribed antibiotic for
lower respiratory tract infections and is often
prescribed in tablet form at a dosage of 500mg every 8
  hours.
 Histamine is a nitrogen based chemical that is
released in your body during allergic reactions.
 Antihistamines are a form of prescription drugs that
are given to individuals to control allergic reactions by
blocking the effects of histamine that has been
  released into their body.
 Some antihistamines can be purchased over the
counter and are often marketed on television/radio.
 The most commonly marketed antihistamines include:
  Benadryl, Claritin-D, and Zyrtec
 An expectorant is a type of drug that improves the
ability to cough up mucus from the lungs, bronchi,
  and trachea.
 Expectorants help by thinning out the mucus and
making the respiratory tract less congested.
 Brand name expectorants may also be found in
  pharmacies and local drug stores.
 The most commonly marketed expectorants are
  Mucinex and Robitussin.
