Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common lung disease that makes it difficult to breathe. The two main forms are chronic bronchitis and emphysema. COPD is often caused by cigarette smoking and air pollution. Symptoms include morning coughs, shortness of breath, wheezing, fatigue, and chest pain. Treatments include stopping smoking, using bronchodilators and corticosteroids, and antibiotics to prevent infections. Combination therapies may also be used.
