This document provides information about different types of rocks:
- Igneous rocks form when magma or lava cools and crystallizes. They can be intrusive (cooled slowly underground forming large crystals) or extrusive (cooled rapidly above ground forming small or no crystals).
- Sedimentary rocks form through the compaction or cementation of sediments like sand, clay, or shells. They include clastic rocks from rock/mineral fragments, chemical rocks from mineral precipitation, and organic rocks from plant and animal remains.
- Metamorphic rocks were originally igneous or sedimentary rocks that were changed by heat and pressure through processes like mountain building or contact with magma.
