How do my products
engage the audience,
and how would they
be distributed as real
media texts?
I had to establish who my target audience was. to do this I needed to
know factors that I should consider such as their age, gender and
ethnicity. As well as their media preferences. To do this I had to create
an audience questionnaire, using Google Forms. Google Forms is very
useful due to its accessibility and ability to gather and collate the data.
My aim when publishing this questionnaire was for in depth research,
which has allowed me to discover my target audience and there by
establish genre and other important conventions of my film,
I have investigated how brands like Bauer Media, Kerrang and Sky
define target audiences. Sky uses traditional social class, gender and
age profiling where as Kerrang is exclusively on demographic profiling.
I designed and distributed an individual audience questionnaire to
investigate my target audience's preferences about films it was made
in response to our film promotion package requirements. Questions
were asked, for example 'What do you think makes an successful
film?' We will collate the data to help establish our films genre and
conventions.

RESULTS
My target audience mainly uses the online platforms to
consume their media. Through the use of websites like
Netflix and Youtube. My audience were predominantly
male and under 35. They access information about films
through social media such as instagram.
Matt Smith from the FDA states, ‘the spend
on digital marketing has drastically
increased.’ Meaning the current generation
are consuming more media online,
making digital marketing a vital tool to
reach these consumers. It is vital for our
films success that we create online media
platforms to help publicise our film and to
generate a following. Smith says there are
two types of publicity: paid for publicity and
viral marketing. Viral marketing is free of
charge therefore more desirable, this is
where consumers and audiences
distribute and publish information about
the film they're selves.
How I used social media to market my film
Whilst completing the profile of our audience, I could establish what
attracted my target audience to the genre and why they would want to
watch our film.
I discovered that of the people who took my questionnaire the thriller
and horror genres were extremely popular, people enjoyed the
suspense, and frightening narrative.

To include as many genre conventions as possible. Our trailer Centres
around anticipation and suspense. Our trailer offers A very unique plot
and I think our USP is a the fact our film is based on a current affaire
which is a global talking topic and has affected the majority of people
world wide.

Film distribution is a process of sharing a film. The distribution team think about
the target audience and then cater to their Needs and interests in order to attract
viewers.
As my production was made by a creative set of students we decided Distributing
our film through film festivals and streaming platforms were our best bet for
success. Then, hopefully being picked up by a media-services provider and
production Company such as Netflix.
