2. PRELIMINARY
EXERCISES:
The aim of my preliminary
exercises was to develop my
production skills. In doing so i
was able to experiment with
camera work, lighting and
editing
3. 1. Firstly I have consulted Daniel
Chandler’s website (The Grammer of
Television and Film) and created a series of
shots consisting of an array of camera shot
types.
4. 2. Next we created a video consisting
of multiple shots featuring hands under a
close up point of view, this helped us
understand how framing can change the
narrative of what is seen and how a
change in perspective could shift
narrative.
(Hands close up video)
5. 3. We then created a title sequence
featuring a song called 5 dollars by Christina
and the Queens. Our job was to ensure our
title sequence was suited to the music
genre. This helped us understand the use of
music how how it must suit the films
narrative.

6. 3. Tom Lukas and I set
up a lighting experiment in
the schools darkroom so we
could test out different forms
of lighting to see how and if
we could use them in our
film. We found this very
helpful and some of the
lighting affects we created
looked very convincing and
could definitley be used in
our film.
7. Green screen
To create an authentic
Japanese backdrop
for our film ‘The
Serpents Sting’ we used
a green screen.
8. Research
In order to create a successful film, plenty of research is
required. For my research i created a Google forum
questionnaire to learn the demographics and viewing
trends of potential audiences. From this I found through
statistics that I should aim my film towards males between
16-25.

9. Filming
When filming we found it important to get a level and even
shot so that the cast and props where in a composition so
that they a filling the frame proportionally. A lot of our
scenes have shot midday to ensure plenty of natural light.
We used Canon cameras as well as Manfrotto Tripods to
ensure a final piece with a professional quality.
10. Editing
When creating our film opening to make it authentic we
‘Final Cut’ software on final cut we also created our green
screen scene. On iMovie we pieces all the individual
sciences together in chronological order ensuring the
sound transitioned proper between cut. We also layer
sound affects and music on the film using iMovie.
