EYEDROPPER another color from your image

5. Creating a Zine
“an underground photocopy magazine”
A. Things Needed:
1. Different types of paper
2. Photos (printed)
3. Pen or marker
4. Glue and scissors
B. Process:
1. You should start by folding your rough
copy. To make a 12-page (10 pages plus
a front and back cover), 8.5' x 5.5' zine.
Start out by taking three pieces of
regular sized computer paper, fold them
in half horizontally, and hold them
sideways like a book.
2. Next you need to pick your subject(s).
Some popular topics are:
stories, polls, video game tips, talking
about a band you
like, comics, artwork, recipes, fashion
tips, local news, and politics. Remember
you are telling a story through
photojournalism/photo essays.
3. Pick a title. A good title is short, to the
point, and easy to remember.
4. Develop a Layout. Think about
style, design, placement, and
arrangement of space. Where are the
photos going? Where is the text? Keep it
consistent throughout your zine or book.
5. Create a Mockup. Using your folded
computer paper, make a sample.
6. Collect your materials. Gather your
images, and any designs you will need.
Collage your work using scissors, glue
and other materials.
7. Scan. Place your collages on the scanner.
Edit in Photoshop.
