MULTIWIRE SUBMERGED ARC WELDING

Design Approach To High Voltage High Power Steam-Turbine Driven Alternator
The paper deals with the design methodology of high voltage high power
alternators driven by steam turbines. These alternators run at a high speed of
3000 rpm in most part of the world (at 3600 rpm in USA) and are of
cylindrical pole construction. The design procedure suggested in the textbooks
of design does not well-suit for large alternators of modern time.
Modern high power alternators are designed with a low value of SCR to
reduce the size, inertia and cost of the rotor. The diameter is limited by the
consideration of centrifugal stresses. The no.of stator slots are determined by
the no. of turns. The ventilating circuit has to be designed for hydrogen as
coolant and in addition with water flowing through hollow conductors, if
required. The data for the design variables and the design constraints are
quite different from those for small power ratings. The materials to be chosen
must be of very high quality. The computer programme has been chalked out
and the case-study has been conducted keeping all these points in view.

Materials for Electric Busways
Busbars, busducts, and busways using copper conductors have several advantages compared to their counterparts fabricated from other materials.
The main advantages of copper arise from its high electric conductivity (low electric resistance). These characteristics make it possible to create busways with the same current carrying capacity but that are smaller and/or more energy efficient.
In addition, the use of copper results in highly durable connections that can resist strong mechanical forces.
Cost of the conductor should not be the only consideration when evaluating the cost of a busway. The cost of the mechanical support systems, the energy losses over the lifetime of the installation, and the scrap value of the material at its end-of-life must all be taken into consideration in order to gain an accurate picture. When this is done, it becomes clear that the initial price of copper has only a minor influence on the total life cycle cost of the busway.
Machines the dc motor
1) A DC motor operates using electromagnetic induction from its armature winding and a magnetic field created by its field windings.
2) It has a rotating armature and stationary field poles or stator. Commutators and brushes allow current to flow to the armature while it rotates.
3) Armature reaction causes distortion of the magnetic field that commutation helps overcome through brush positioning and using interpoles.

- 1. Carbon Brushes and its Usage: In pitch structures with DC motors or slip rings, our carbon brushes can permanently be reliable. Flawlessly matched materials enable very high reliability, even under extreme conditions. Very good confrontation to wear and very good data transmission with our resources excite across the whole line. EVOLUTION BRUSHES are one of the fundamental parts of a working electric motor. They can be defined as the element which makes the connection between the static part and the moving parts inside an electric motor (rotor). Einhell Carbon Brushes for electrical motors are elements which it´s intended use is to put the required pressure over the collectors or the rotatory rings, hence the contact can be made for the electrical current. Types of Electric motor Brushes: There are, depending on the base material, different groups of electrical brushes: Amorphous carbon: Usually used in electro-portatil tools. Ideal for small motors with high speed revolutions. Electro-Graphite: Used in loading machines. Special material for continuous current motors and ringed alternate current motors, over 25 Kw (20 H.p.) and intensities around 300/400 amps. When this intensities are crossed, we use the same material but with different additives. Metal-Graphitic: Usually utilized in forklifts and cranes, as much in any motor subdued to very high intensities and low tension, because this kind of
- 2. brush offers a very low electrical resistance and is able to support a very high electric charge. Baquelitics: Once upon a time, the most used of all materials. Nowadays more or less obsoletes in front of cheaper and/or lasting materials. They can support a high electrical charge during the starting time, as they have a very resistive brushes. Among their advantages, they can self-regulate the motor power but, in the other hand, they are very ductile. Flat brushes: Made with very compact materials, and specially destined to small spaces applications with a high level of conductivity, like dynamos or lightning rods. This is the only type pf brush were the composition can vary substantially form one application to another.
