Language In Rabbit Proof Fence
Rabbit Proof Fence is a movie directed by Phillip Noyce based on the novel by Doris Pilkington
Garimara. In the excerpt, The Stealing of Children, it shows the offspring of the indigenous people
being taken away from their parents as the white settlers thought they weren t being treated properly.
Events like these occurred from 1910 1970 in Australia s history. Many aboriginal children didn t want
to be taken away and the fictional story, based on real events, of Rabbit Proof Fence has been created
from the point of view of those people living at this time. The director has created many
representations of Aboriginal people through the use of language features, visual elements and the
audio components.
The language features of The Stealing of Children give many representations of the indigenous
people. One of these devices is repetition. Once the aboriginals were trapped by Constable Riggs,
Maude repeatedly shouted the word, No! . While he took the children, she continued to state that they
were hers and she didn t like him taking them. Her repetitiveness gave the impression that she didn t
want to lose her kids and that she loved them. This also gave the impression that Maude had no
authority against Riggs. Another language element featured in the film is evocative vocabulary. It was
used among the shouts of the indigenous people and the police man. When the Grandmother came to
the car with a large stick, which she may have used to try and break the car windows,

THE BRITISH REACTION TO THE AMERIAN REACTION
1. The Molasses Act (1733): This act placed a high tariff on molasses being imported by colonists
from the French West Indies; it was passed in response to complaints by British West Indian planters
that they were losing money.
American merchants responded to the act by bribing and smuggling their way around the law, actions
that foreshadowed the impending imperial crisis. British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Americans reacted very strongly to these taxes, and many riots broke out. Virginia began the riots
when Patrick Henry introduced resolutions stating that Parliament had no legal authority to tax the
colonies at all. Larger riots such as the Intercolonial Stamp Act Congress passed multiple series of
resolutions in protest.
The British continued to enact the laws they passed because it was a good source of money that could
be used to benefit the mother country. There were many riots and the British navy was used to help
control the colonists and keep them in line.

Americans were outraged because the Declaratory Act hinted that more acts would be coming. The

They kept taxing the colonists and started saying that the colonists could do nothing about it.

Pickles Research Paper
Thomas Jefferson wrote, On a hot day in Virginia, I know nothing more comforting than a fine spiced
pickle, brought up trout like from the sparkling depths of the aromatic jar below the stairs of Aunt
Sally s cellar. So what is so special about a pickle? It is a very common side dish in many recipes
around the world. But a fact that very few people in the world know is that pickles have been used
since time immemorial and many historic figures, including Cleopatra, George Washington and Julius
Caesar, liked pickles. As pickling is a process of preserving food, many people used this as a means to
hold on to basic nourishments, in their bad times like war, famine and rough weather. Cleopatra who
was a devoted pickle fan, in fact believed that they enhanced her beauty.

Costco Pay and Benefit
PAY AND BENEFITS There are five major components of job satisfaction, one being monetary
benefits (Ghillyer 2010). According to Ghillyer (2012) an employee s behavior towards their pay may
affect their work performance. The issue that arises with employee motivation is that management is
unable to satisfy all (Ghillyer 2010). This becomes an even larger problem when employees being
joining unions, resigning and being frequently absent (Ghillyer 2010). The according to Weissmann

Engaging The Adult Learner For Adult Learners
Engaging the Adult Learner
Jeffery Collins
COLL100 B100 Fall 14
American Military University
Dr. Gibson Engaging the Adult Learner
Engaging adults during the learning process is an action that encompasses the use of skills to conquer
their concentration and interest. The engagement is performed to ensure the adult learners will
immediately identify with the information and the objective of the teaching. Once the identification
and objectivity is formed learning is able to proceed. Therefore, the engagement process for adult
learners must be unique and display sensitivity in an effort to achieve learning. Moreover, it is
necessary for adults to know their efforts put towards lifelong learning will have meaningful value
later.
Engaging
The overreaching goal of engagement during the instructional process is to achieve learning (J.J Keller
Associates, n.d.). Learning is the process by which a new skillset or information is acquired through
review, practical exercise, and experience to name a few producing understanding or skillfulness
(Merriam Webster, n.d.). In an effort to facilitate learning during engagement of the adult learner,
considerations should be applied and adjusted if needed to the presentation of the material which
contributes to optimal learning. Optimal learning for the adult provides for engagement and allows
retention of knowledge to transpire which is impacted by the training approach of the instructor
(Kelly, 2006). The instructor s teaching

The Different Adaptations of Dracula
Ever since Bram Stoker wrote his entrancing novel people have been adapting it, and the story is one
of the most reproduced ideas in history. Each innovation of the novel influences the story for the
creators own purpose, and in doing so generates another version of Dracula. Count Dracula has
become an infamous character in history, and has been captured in many different mediums, such as
the Japanese anime and manga series Vampire Hunter D, which follows Draculas son D in his
adventures (Kikuchi). However, one of the adaptations that endures in modern minds is the 1992 film
by Francis Ford Coppola, Bram Stoker s Dracula. This version of Dracula was meant to be loyal to the
novel, but it diverged from the original in many ways.

Indeed Mina s attraction to Dracula in the film leads to one of the defining alterations between the
film and movie adaption, the humanization of Dracula. The subtitle of the 1992 film is Love Never
Dies, (Coppola) which is the love between Dracula and his wife Elisabeta, who is the spitting image of
Mina, and is also represented by Winona Ryder. Throughout the film Dracula tries to win over Mina in
order to regain his love with Elisabeta, who commits suicide after false rumours of Draculas death are
feed to her by priest. The betrayal by the priest and his wife s death, makes Dracula curse god, and
therefore become a vampire. The background story of the character Dracula makes the monster almost
understandable, and the audience begins to sympathize with Dracula. (0:33 5:38)
Even more, the nauseating cruel looking (49) creature described in the novel is turned into a charming
young Gary Oldman. Although Coppola starts the film with a brilliant representation of Stoker s
monster, he seems to embellish on the younger Dracula (12:44 13:00). In the novel Dracula becomes
younger by gorging himself with blood, but Jonathan Harker describes him like a filthy leech,
exhausted with his repletion (83). Coppola makes the monster more of a human, and the audience can
feel for his and Mina s love affair. Also, Jonathan seems distant from Mina, and this makes the love is

The Huns In Disney s Mulan
1.1 The Huns
From the very beginning the Huns in Disney s Mulan are portrayed as evil incarnate. In the opening
scenes, they are associated with an eerie atmosphere heightened by ominous sounds. The Huns do not
appear immediately; they are introduced by suspense, preceded by the appearance of a bird of prey. A
Chinese soldier, standing guard on the Great Wall of China is not even attacked by the falcon, he is
caught by its wing, almost as if the Huns were trying to warn their enemies of their arrival, showing
that they do not fear the resistance.
Fig. 1. Hayabusa the falcon. Walt Disney Animation Studios, 1998. Author s screenshot.
The picture that emerges is either that of the incompetent Chinese soldiers or an unknown danger,
sneaking around, undetectable even by trained eyes. As the falcon, which the audience later learns
belongs to the main antagonist, is the primary signal of an impending threat, the first climbing hook
thrown over the wall is supposed to draw attention towards the place from where the enemy comes.
The multitude of hooks that follows is just meant to build up the atmosphere and intimidate both, the
audience and the Chines soldiers in the cartoon. For one moment they look like a swarm, ready to
attack. It is clear now that the threat is extremely deadly, as the Huns come out of nowhere, in the ...

Interestingly, the hierarchy of the army coincides with the fact that the audience does not see the
majority of the Hun soldiers as individual characters. Only Shan Yu and his elite warriors are shown in
more detail, depicted as worthy of the attention. This major lack of specificity brings the association
with a swarm of insects; the Hun soldiers are not only deprived of their humanity, but also their status
as primates is uncertain. As a group they are no longer animal like, but they create a giant entity, like a

producing a scientific based paper on addiction.
Results
Addiction is considered a brain disease that changes the way the brain works, thinks and reacts.
Genetics is one way to determine means of addiction through linkage and association. Some effects of
drug use can cause permanent damage to the brain and cause abnormalities. Although there is no cure
for addiction doctors have came up with many different medications to treat symptoms.
Conclusion
General studies have proven the fact that substances have an adverse effect on the brain and how it

Examples Of Blank Verse In Macbeth
Macbeth: Verse/Prose CR During Macbeth they use blank verse throughout most the poem to show
rythm and poetry. Blank verse is a type of poetry that does not rhyme. In the tragedy of Macbeth he
switches his writing style to Prose which is written or spoken language in its ordinary form, without
metrical structure. He would do this to make the writing sound formal or like whoever the character is,
is speaking. He does this to take the sing songy voice from the writing. An example from the text
would be from the letter Macbeth wrote to his wife at the beginning of the story. He switched to prose,
to make it sound like a letter. With him doing this, this allows the reader to tell that it is a letter and
read it in a tone that is like conversation.

Margaret Cavendish Research Paper
(1623) Birth of Margaret Cavendish: Margaret Cavendish was an English noblewoman born in 1623
to a wealthy family. Cavendish was born in Essex, England where she was taught of feminine arts at
home. In 1643, she went to court to be a maid of honor to Queen Henrietta Maria during the English
civil war (Blackwell). A year later, due to exile, Henrietta Maria fled to Paris with Cavendish by her

end of 1645 ( Biography of Margaret Cavendish ). Half a decade later, Margaret Cavendish began
writing. The birth of Margaret Cavendish lies important to both science and women. In her writings,
Cavendish spoke of women s poor education... exclusion from public institutions, physical demands of
childbirth, and society s image of women as irrational and unintelligent (Blackwell). Without
Cavendish s birth, her advocacy and voice would not be able to push for the fair treatment of women
and their involvement in science. Furthermore, Cavendish used her voice to explain that [t]he truth is,

Iran announced that they would resume uranium enrichment activities and end implementation of the

People treat others differently based on the color of their skin. The author showcases this throughout
the novel, through the lives of Artis and Jasper, twin siblings who have extensively different
complexions than one another, The oldest son, whom she named Jasper, was the color of a creamy cup
of coffee, and the other one, named Artis, was black as coal (97). Coffee is typically thought of as
something warm and pleasant, while coal is dark and grimy. This may be considered a metaphor for
their lives, as Jasper s was always warm and welcoming, and Artis pathway was dark, he saw horrible
things in his time even though he was well behaved. People treated Jasper with much more respect
than his brother, Artis, and the sole reason was obvious. Because of the color of someone s skin, they
are likely to be subjected to unfair assumptions, which leads to unequal

Disadvantages And Differences Of The Midsummer Night Vs....
Learning, of all entities in the human history, is the backbone and cradle of all headway and
furtherance. As it happens, it is the aspect of life that steers one s barely controllable passion of what
you like doing or what others have done notably in the past. Learning is so crucial and extraordinary
that we couldn t have sent the first man to the moon, or neither can Shakespeare put Macbeth or
Midsummer Night s Dream down in a very unprecedented writing. That is all because of substantial
and extensive fondness for learning. Learning, on the other page of the book, varies and deviates
depending on the individual involved in this. Some may prefer visual over auditory, or kinaesthetic

Future Growth Prospects in Africa
Africa is a region that has for long been taunted as the dark continent. Years of political cynicism,
proliferation of civil wars and governance mismanagement have negated the growth and development
of the continent. However if the present positive growth patterns and future economic projections are
anything to go by then the continent is set to undergo a massive transformation by 2025. African
economies are showing impressive growth, with an average Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth
forecasted to be 6.3 % in 2013, Africa has become the fastest growing region in the world, and only a
few Asian countries will continue to grow faster than the continent s top performers. Africa`s growth
projections are premised on the backbone of an anticipated educated young population growth, rising
intra African trade, investments in public private partnerships and commodity based industrialization.
This paper gives an impetus to the future prospects of Africa by highlighting inter alia the present
growth trends and envisaged future prospects. It also analyses what still needs to be done to ensure the
envisaged growth projections are realized.
Africa`s population growth is the highest in the world and by 2025 it will be the only continent where
the youth population will expand. The projections also show that by 2035 Africa will have a larger
working population more than that of India and or China (Mo Ibrahim forum 2013). This working
population has the ability to transform the

The Role Of Subculture Theory In The United States
This chapter had a lot of important and informative insights. Yet the most insightful information that I
have learned, was subculture theory. Subculture theory is the shared [of] several traits with activity
theory and disengagement theory a convention that people lost statues in old age, a focus on role
changes in later life, and a belief that activity enhanced the lives of the elderly. It differed in that it
built on a sociological theory of subcultural development (pg.53). I have learned today in one of my
other class that we humans are living longer than in the past years. The United State is one of the
countries in which the elderly groups are living longer than other countries. The average age of elderly
for 2020 is 60 75 years old.

The Industrial Revolution Of The 19th Century
Europe in the nineteenth century was rapidly evolving into a more modernized society, and many
political and cultural ideas were developing during this change. The Industrial Revolution triggered an
enormous increase of the standard of living throughout most of Europe and North America. The
transformation from the old style of hand made production to the new factory system caused many
industries to build factories. This caused many people of the working class to move to the factories in
search of work. Cities were forming around the factories, and this was the first time for most people to
live in an urban area. The economy was flourishing, but there were still questions on how the
government should react during the recent economic growth. There has always been a separation
between the classes of society, and during the Industrial Revolution this separation of classes grew.
Socialism was one of the ideologies that proposed a way to end the class struggles that capitalism
created. Romanticism was provoked by the population growth in urban areas, and many of the
romantic writers wanted to write about the old rural areas that they came from. Both the Industrial
Revolution and the age of Enlightenment created the ideology of liberalism during this time. The
Industrial revolution was the main factor that triggered the development of socialism, romanticism,
and liberalism ideologies during nineteenth century Europe.
The Industrial Revolution marked an era of enormous economic

How Did The Moonlight Influence Joseph Turner s Work
Joseph William Turner was born on April 23, 1775 and died on December 19, 1851 in London,
England. He was an English Romantic landscape painter that studied expressionistic light, color, and
atmosphere. When Turner was 10 years old, he lived with an uncle at Brentford, Middlesex, where he
attended school. His father sold Turners drawings as early as 1787 because they were so professional.
In 1789, Turner started at the Royal Academy schools where he began creating his watercolors. The
painters at the Royal Academy, were responsible for creating the 18th century with nocturnal subjects.
He spent most of his time touring the country in search of scenery to fill his sketchbooks with
drawings. These drawings would later be used for watercolors. ... Show more content on

This oil painting is a moonlight scene and known as an original mind by contemporary critics. The
strong power of nature is the main theme that brings greatness or sublime that inspires our thoughts.
The moonlight s contrast is delicate to the flickering lantern on the boat. This emphasizes nature s
power over humans and the fishermen s fate. After Fishermen at Sea, in 1799, he was elected an
associate of the Royal Academy at 24 years old; this being the youngest age a person can be elected.
In 1802, Turner had the dignity of signing a collection of large pictures, resulting him to become an
academician. Shortly after, he opened a private gallery to show his latest work. Turner s gallery was
extremely successful that resulted an obvious statement that his career of art was assured. As he was

Marx and the Bourgeoisie Essay
In this essay I plan to analyze the claim by Karl Marx that the bourgeoisie class produces its own
gravediggers . I will first present a definition of the bourgeoisie and the proletariat classes along with
what Marx means by his claim. After discussing Marx s claim and his support I will assert that his
claim is false and was based on a false assumption. I will argue that Marx does not allow the
possibility of an adaptation on behalf of the bourgeoisie. Furthermore, that Marx contradicts his claim
with his own ideologies from his critique of capitalism. Finally, Marx adopts historical determinism to
support his view which has proven to be flawed. The claim that the bourgeoisie produces its own
gravediggers is based on circumstantial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see, therefore, how the modern bourgeoisie is itself the product of a long course of development,
of a series of revolutions in the modes of production and of exchange. (Marx, 424). In this sense, the
bourgeoisie have the ability to change since they themselves are products of revolutions. In other
terms, the bourgeoisie are an always changing class that has found ways to stay in power through
political hegemony over the proletariat class. Marx conjures the proper preconditions for a successful
rebellion but again contradicts himself through his own ideologies. Although Marx believes that
capitalism will be responsible for the proletariat rebellion it is the same system that will estrange man
from each other and thus prevent a successful revolt.
Marx asserts certain preconditions that must exist in order for a rebellion to take place. Marx believes
that capitalism provides these preconditions and therefore a revolt by the proletariat class is inevitable.
As discussed in Professor Kathryn Walker s lecture, Marx describes four preconditions for a
successful social rebellion, A mass of people for rebellion, a problem to rebel against, a common
experience and identification of the problem. (Walker, 2005). Marx is correct in identifying the
necessary preconditions yet does not take into consideration that just because the conditions are set
does not mean a rebellion is inevitable. Marx displays how

My Experience In Community College
It never crossed my mind that both my academic life and the privilege to attend USC would ever be in
jeopardy. At first, I believed that my transition from a community college into a 4 year institution
would essentially be a walk at the park. Unfortunately, to my dismay, I was wrong. I underestimated
the level of work and effort that was required out of me from this university in order to be successful.
Instead, I overestimated my abilities and trusted my poor sense of judgement. This mentality
consequently stunted my potential to perform at my very best which led to my downfall. As a result, I
found myself in a very peculiar situation that I had never been in before nor ever experienced. I found
myself at the brink of academic disqualification and on the verge of having my dreams disappear right

academics and new life at USC was when my troubles began to manifest themselves. One of the main
reasons my work fell below acceptable standards was due to my extreme lack of confidence. This all

Paleolithic Kinship
Around 10,000 to 2.5 million years ago, the first period of the Stone Age, the Paleolithic Era, existed
and was known for the nomadic lifestyle that its people lived. The people of the Paleolithic Era were
hunter gatherers who moved constantly in search of animals to hunt and plants to gather. The
Paleolithic people preferred to live off of the resources that existed in abundance in a given region,
rather than producing resources for themselves. For this reason, the Paleolithic people were organized
into small kinship societies. Small kinship societies enabled the Paleolithic people to live in groups
and survive from available resources because larger kinship societies require more resources and
living space, which was not ideal. Since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to their nomadic lifestyle, the Paleolithic people lived in huts, simple tent structures, or in nearby

from wood and animal skins to bone and even stone. The Paleolithic people used these materials to
build simple tools like clubs and scrapers, and even weapons like small axes, flints, and simple
arrowheads, which helped them, live day after day. Aside from their weapons and tools, the people of
the Paleolithic Era made a great discovery when they learned to control and master the concept of

Emigrant And Immigrants In The Kingdom Of The Netherlands
Over the years, the Netherlands has seen a massive influx of immigrants, both refugees and economic,
from all areas of the world. As a result, the current demographic of the Netherlands is characterized by
20% of the Dutch population [being] immigrants or children of immigrant parents (Ersanilli, 2007);
thus, for that reason the importance of this topic/problem is further elevated. Coming from Curacao, a
small island which forms part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as well as whose economy depends
on tourism and permanent migration, it is interesting to apply theories and empirical data to something
that I have accepted as the norm. For some, living in a nation state where migration is extremely
prevalent might not seem the norm, but for me it is; thus, it is compelling to see how this previous
knowledge can be applied on a global scale. In order to thoroughly cover the different aspects of
migration, the following points will be addressed: key definitions which aid in understanding of the
topic; types of migration; the push and pull factors of migration; and the impacts on the source and
destination countries. For the better understanding of this topic it is important to understand the
distinction between immigrant and emigrant, as well as internal and external migration. Immigrant
refers to someone who comes to a foreign country to live permanently, whereas a emigrant refers to an
individual who leaves their home country to then permanently reside in a foreign country. Similarly,
internal migration refers to people within a country moving to another location within its borders (e.g.
from one city to another), whereas external migration refers to the act of migration across borders (e.g.
from one country to another). Now that some key terms have been addressed, the types of migrants
will be illustrated. People migrate to different countries for various different reasons. This results in
the categorization of different migrants in relation to their reason for migrating, whether it be for
social or economic reasons. The types of migrants include the following: temporary labor migrants,
highly skilled migrants, irregular migrants, forced migrants, family reunification migrants, and return
migrants.

Race and Religion in The Last of the Mohicans The Llast of the Mohicans contains many relevant

American Border and occurs during the around the third year of the French and Indian War. This novel
of Coopers illustrates the common ideas about race and gender that circulated as part of the American
Identity of the time period. Cooper illustrates the unfavorable attitudes of whites toward the American
Indians. The French and Indian War divided the American Indian tribes. Some tribes fought for the
English, while other tribes sided with the French. Even though the American Indians fought along side
the English and French soldiers, they were considered less than a desirable people. They are

The war is now in its third year and the fight to gain control of the territory around Canada and New

the English crown in America might lessen and that France could become the victor here. The English

Alzheimer s disease is an irreversible, progressive brain disease that slowly destroys memory and

The next step is to do tests on the brain itself to rule out other possible conditions. Doctors will often
do a CT scan first, then an MRI, and possibly a PET scan; these tests will show abnormalities of the
brain, and they will help rule out tumors, clots, or if the patient has had a stroke. The CT provides a
clear, two dimensional image of the brain that shows abnormalities such as brain tumors, blood clots,
strokes, or damage due to head injury (Hill 2008). This procedure is painless, and nothing is inserted
on, or into your head. The patient is fully awake during the procedure.
An MRI uses computer generated radio waves and a strong magnetic field to produce a detailed image
of the brain. MRIs are helpful in the diagnosis of tumors, eye diseases, infections, inflammation, and
damage due to head injury (Hill 2008). When getting an MRI, you lay on a table that slides into a
tube, and they use computer generated radio waves and a very strong magnetic field to see images of
the brain. This test will allow the doctor to see two and three dimensional images of your brain.
The PET scan also will show two and three dimensional images of the brain; however, the PET scan
measures brain activity. This is done by injecting radioactive isotopes into the blood stream. The
isotopes attach to

Separation Of P-Acetamidobenzoic Acid
The objective of this procedure is to produce a sample of p acetamidobenzoic acid from the oxidation
of p acetotoluidide with potassium permanganate.

In a 250 mL Erlenmeyer Flask, 5 g (0.02 mol) of magnesium sulfate crystals were mixed with 1.9 g

of the reaction). While this was occurring, a separate solution was prepared from 5.1 g (0.032 mol) of
potassium permanganate and 20 mL of boiling water, which were placed in a separate 250 mL beaker,
which was placed on a slowly heating hot plate (in order to keep the solution as warm as possible, but
not warm enough that the water could evaporate). It was observed that this solution was characterized
by a very distinct purple color, and a small amount of precipitate could be observed at the bottom of
the beaker. Once the p acetotoluidide solution had reached a gentle boil, it was vigorously stirred with
a stirring rod, and every so often (about every 5 minutes) a small portion of the potassium

Rhetorical Analysis Of Women s Rights Activist Mary...
In her book about education as a vehicle for social mobility of women in society, author, philosopher,
and women s rights activist Mary Wollstonecraft uses several rhetorical devices to build her argument
about women s roles in society. She uses a comparison and contrast expository mode to help people
understand the modern woman s experience, especially as it differs from the experience of men,
appeal to pity to create an emotional connection with her audience, and restrained diction to show how
confined women are in society, all through an iconoclastic and indignant tone.
She compares the few tasks that civilized women are able to perform with the wide variety of tasks
that men routinely perform in order to illustrate how little autonomy the modern woman has. For
instance, while a male soldier can march and counter march and manipulate the senate to work for
them, women do not have any of these opportunities. Men have so much more power; they govern
everything that goes on outside the house, and have a lot more freedom in what they do. Even in a
relationship, the man is responsible and the women is reduced to a cypher, she claims. Furthermore, it
is extremely difficult for a woman to get a job that pays enough so she can be financially independent
of her husband; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

women are viewed as pitiful dependents, but they have so much more potential, she argues. And

American Identity In Karl Woodkey s Chicana
In American Mosaics, Karl Woodkey argues, American identity is a process that is best understood if
one apprehends two key factors. First, American identity occurs within the primary contexts of race,
class, and gender. Secondly, one must understand that the primary conflicts inherent in American
identity emerge from these contexts. The basic logic of Woodkey s argument is to understand
American identity we need to understand how we, as a group, separate each other into different races,
classes and genders and the conflict that stems from that segregation. This segregation stems from us
being power hungry, we as humans always feel the need to be better than one another which causes us
to say that one race, class or gender is better than the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the very beginning of the text Serrano says, I want to be called Chicana. I am mestiza indigenous
and spanish. My heritage is struggle and strength. I join my strength and struggle to that of my
hermanas, my sisters. I am a woman of Aztlan, the southwestern United States. I don t want to be
called Hispanic Because I don t want people to tell me who I am and where I come from. Serrano is
angry that Americans classify her as just Hispanic, she sees this as an insult and wants to be known as
Chicana because it means to be Hispanic and Indian. She is so adamant about being called Chicana
because she feels that Chicana shows the hardships that she had to go through, and being called
Hispanic doesn t show that. Serrano is a prime example of those people who take pride in their culture
and heritage, and there is nothing wrong with that until someone insults their culture or someone feels
that their culture is better. This ties back to the previous point where she is very protective of her
heritage and she feels segregated when people call her hispanic because that denies the hardships she
had to go through as an Indian. It also seems that Serrano is a little power hungry because she feels
that her race and culture is better than others, which leads her to get angry about being called Hispanic
because it takes away her culture that she is most proud

Near Death Experience
It was a warm fall day in early October, a day that I recall quite vividly. The smells of the transition
from summer to fall were in the air, accompanied by the sounds of birds singing and the wind blowing
through the trees. It was on this beautiful day that my existence was almost terminated. A quick
hunting trip could have ended my life.
After school on this day, a friend and I decided to go hunting before our evening basketball practice. I
really don t know why we called it hunting, because we didn t have an idea exactly what we were

Immediately we ran to the tree, firing our guns as if we both were in an infantry fighting a battle. One,
two, three squirrels were dropped out of the tree by our deadeye aimed shots. As we gazed over the
dead corpses, we contemplated the need to shoot these animals for no obvious reason. Was it our
insatiable compulsion to shoot the guns or a morbid goal to shoot the squirrels on the run? Apparently
it was an odd mixture of both cases. As guilty as we might have felt for shooting them, we searched
for more life to murder.
Soon enough, however, we seemed to become bored with our adventure and decided that our
excitement for the day had ended, so we began our short journey back to my house. On the way back,
we stopped briefly by the tree that supplied the three squirrels we killed previously. I then continued
walking, but my friend had noticed a squirrel clinging to the trunk of the tree. I was on the opposite
side of the tree from him, about forty feet away from my fellow gunslinger. As I turned around, I
noticed I was in the direct line of his firing range. Before I had time to warn him of the unsafe
situation, I saw the shots. Three consecutive discharges of his gun snapped the scene into slow motion.
Fire and smoke billowed out of his gun after each bullet was released. The sound of the shots was

Alexander Fleming was born on August 6, 1881 to Hugh Fleming and Grace Morton. His parents
shared the same occupation as farmers. He was born on a rural farm in Lochfield in East Ayrshire
Scotland. Alexander or Alec as his family called him had three siblings Grace, John and Robert. He
also had four half siblings Jane, Hugh, Thomas, and Mary who were from his father s previous

called Darvel School. He also moved to Kilmarnock Academy. After this he relocated to London
where he attended Regent Street Polytechnic. Before starting his medical studies he worked at a

Virginia Woolf Two Cafeterias
Two Cafeterias , by Virginia Woolf, was written showing an underlying message of how different men
and woman are treated in this culture. Using words, descriptions, and tones Woolf expresses to the
reader how insignificant woman in this day are made to feel. Woolf shows throughout the entire piece
that the men of this society are treated to nothing less than invariably memorable luncheon parties
while woman are downgraded to dinner in the dining room. By showing the different standards in
which society holds men and woman during something as simple as a meal, Woolf undeniably
succeeds in showing the low level in which woman stand during this time. The men s meal is one that
leaves Woolf feeling as though we are all going to heaven. She lists off the potatoes being thin as
coins, sprouts foliated as rosebuds , and pudding so good that if it were otherwise related to rice and
tapioca would be nothing less than completely downgrading. The luncheon party was so proper that
them speaking of what was being eaten was unacceptable. The men were greeted with things such as
serving men and cushioned window seats for they are considered to be the most vital in their society.
Their attitude was nothing less then snobbish for they were made to feel so high. Treated inferior to
woman, and they sought to believe it themselves. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Here was my soup . The short sentence structure emphasizes the lack of enthusiasm that woman are
met with when it comes to their spot in this culture. The level of writing in which is used inherently
shows the level of standards men and woman are held to in this

For some companies, they will make themselves known through advertising. For others, a network of
personalities will surround it, for example.
To undertake effective communication, provide a very positive image of his company and maximise
its business, the creator must necessarily proceed in stages. The company cannot communicate
anything to anyone. She must first identify the targets, investors, customers, suppliers, and assign
levels of importance.
The customer is the strength of a company. She must focus all its means to target service concept.
The customer service allows companies to retain their customers advantageously distinguished from
each other.
The customer service is the ability of skilled employees, to provide products and services to their
internal or external customers, to satisfy their needs, apparent or not, to enjoy an advertisement by
word of mouth that will bring positive new buyers.
For many companies, customer service is summarised in the following activities: responding to

Reaction Paper On Deviant
I was raised by my grandparents who had many rules and taught me that it would be disrespectful not
to follow them, so it was hard for me to complete the three deviant acts to write this paper. I have
spent my life following social norms to the best of my ability, even ones that seems absurd to me. The
object of this assignment frightened the heck out of me and I truly wasn t sure if I was going to be able
to complete it. The unspoken rule that I chose to break was the infamous standing in a line waiting
your turn rule, I chose to cut into the line without saying anything at all. The first time I decided to do
my deviant act was while standing in line at the Tim Hortons at St. Paul s Hospital, which was
especially hard for me because I ve been going there for the past four years to visit my mother. There
was about 12 people standing in the line when I walked up to it and remembered that I needed to do
my deviant act and that now was as good a time as any. I felt very nervous about what I was planning
to do and honestly a little afraid because the area isn t exactly the greatest area s in the city. I stood at
the back of the line for about 2 minutes trying to mentally prepare for what I was going to do. I finally
built up the courage to walk ahead and cut into the line, leaving only one person ahead of me. No one
said a single word to me, but I did notice one of the workers looking towards the line and laughing. I
literally could feel the blood rushing to my face, but

Hewlett Packard just like Kerzner Office Equipment faced a severe financial crisis resulting massive
job cuts. The job cuts had a tremendous impact on employee morale where Hewlett Packard
established better communication with employees by adopting MBWA method. But Amber Briggs, the
human resource specialist did not establish a face to face interaction. Amber Briggs should have gone
to meet the assigned employees to build a network and cooperation with them. Thus, Amber Briggs
could have gained more support in the first meeting. Like Southwest Airlines, Kerzner s new CEO
Justin Tubbs wanted to build better relationship with employees. Unlike Kerzner, Southwest even
during tough external market maintained high integrity and cooperation with employees. Amber Brigs
like Southwest should adopt personal related currencies that can help others feel a sense of importance
and personal worth that will generate goodwill with team members.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Kerzner Office Equipment was faced with challenges and its ultimate success or failure
will be a result of the development and implementation of their solution. Companies in today s
industries must acknowledge their potential and initiate growth using professionally strategic planning
measures that most importantly involved employees. Companies must achieve their goals

What Is Structural Functionalism
Structural Functionalism In society today, structural functionalism can be defined as looking at society
as a whole with all the small parts working together to make things run smoothly. For example, these
smaller parts are known as institutions. These may include: inequality, education, religion, sports,
politics etc. We as the people of tomorrow live in a very controversial society where there are a lot of
factors that restricts us from these types of institutions that may very well have us depending on the
government in the long run. One of the institutions that we are restricted from on a daily basis is,
education. The educational system is viewed as an important factor to maintain social order and

Goats are very social animals who live together in large herds. Yet, goats leave the herd becoming
very independent and then return to the herd (Bradford, 2015, para. 4). This is much like the Chiefs on
a ship that are very independent and self sustaining in their work centers but come together and lean
on the strength of the Chiefs Mess. The unity of the mess is represented by the goat. The Goat Locker
gives the Ship and its crew its collective Spirit (Wilson, 2014, para. 2). Even astrologers see the goat
positively. Goats are seen as majestic, powerful, and versatile. The goat reminds us to honor ourselves,
honor our loftiest ideals and keep exploring our vistas until we achieve our highest vision (Venefica,

  • 2. Language In Rabbit Proof Fence Rabbit Proof Fence is a movie directed by Phillip Noyce based on the novel by Doris Pilkington Garimara. In the excerpt, The Stealing of Children, it shows the offspring of the indigenous people being taken away from their parents as the white settlers thought they weren t being treated properly. Events like these occurred from 1910 1970 in Australia s history. Many aboriginal children didn t want to be taken away and the fictional story, based on real events, of Rabbit Proof Fence has been created from the point of view of those people living at this time. The director has created many representations of Aboriginal people through the use of language features, visual elements and the audio components. The language features of The Stealing of Children give many representations of the indigenous people. One of these devices is repetition. Once the aboriginals were trapped by Constable Riggs, Maude repeatedly shouted the word, No! . While he took the children, she continued to state that they were hers and she didn t like him taking them. Her repetitiveness gave the impression that she didn t want to lose her kids and that she loved them. This also gave the impression that Maude had no authority against Riggs. Another language element featured in the film is evocative vocabulary. It was used among the shouts of the indigenous people and the police man. • 22. Future Growth Prospects in Africa Africa is a region that has for long been taunted as the dark continent. Years of political cynicism, proliferation of civil wars and governance mismanagement have negated the growth and development of the continent. However if the present positive growth patterns and future economic projections are anything to go by then the continent is set to undergo a massive transformation by 2025. African economies are showing impressive growth, with an average Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth forecasted to be 6.3 % in 2013, Africa has become the fastest growing region in the world, and only a few Asian countries will continue to grow faster than the continent s top performers. Africa`s growth projections are premised on the backbone of an anticipated educated young population growth, rising intra African trade, investments in public private partnerships and commodity based industrialization. This paper gives an impetus to the future prospects of Africa by highlighting inter alia the present growth trends and envisaged future prospects. It also analyses what still needs to be done to ensure the envisaged growth projections are realized. Africa`s population growth is the highest in the world and by 2025 it will be the only continent where the youth population will expand. The projections also show that by 2035 Africa will have a larger working population more than that of India and or China (Mo Ibrahim forum 2013). Yet the most insightful information that I have learned, was subculture theory. Subculture theory is the shared [of] several traits with activity theory and disengagement theory a convention that people lost statues in old age, a focus on role changes in later life, and a belief that activity enhanced the lives of the elderly. It differed in that it built on a sociological theory of subcultural development (pg.53). I have learned today in one of my other class that we humans are living longer than in the past years. • 24. The Industrial Revolution Of The 19th Century Europe in the nineteenth century was rapidly evolving into a more modernized society, and many political and cultural ideas were developing during this change. The Industrial Revolution triggered an enormous increase of the standard of living throughout most of Europe and North America. The transformation from the old style of hand made production to the new factory system caused many industries to build factories. This caused many people of the working class to move to the factories in search of work. Cities were forming around the factories, and this was the first time for most people to live in an urban area. The economy was flourishing, but there were still questions on how the government should react during the recent economic growth. There has always been a separation between the classes of society, and during the Industrial Revolution this separation of classes grew. Socialism was one of the ideologies that proposed a way to end the class struggles that capitalism created. Romanticism was provoked by the population growth in urban areas, and many of the romantic writers wanted to write about the old rural areas that they came from. Both the Industrial Revolution and the age of Enlightenment created the ideology of liberalism during this time. The Industrial revolution was the main factor that triggered the development of socialism, romanticism, and liberalism ideologies during nineteenth century Europe. He was an English Romantic landscape painter that studied expressionistic light, color, and atmosphere. When Turner was 10 years old, he lived with an uncle at Brentford, Middlesex, where he attended school. His father sold Turners drawings as early as 1787 because they were so professional. In 1789, Turner started at the Royal Academy schools where he began creating his watercolors. • 26. Marx and the Bourgeoisie Essay In this essay I plan to analyze the claim by Karl Marx that the bourgeoisie class produces its own gravediggers . I will first present a definition of the bourgeoisie and the proletariat classes along with what Marx means by his claim. After discussing Marx s claim and his support I will assert that his claim is false and was based on a false assumption. I will argue that Marx does not allow the possibility of an adaptation on behalf of the bourgeoisie. Furthermore, that Marx contradicts his claim with his own ideologies from his critique of capitalism. Finally, Marx adopts historical determinism to support his view which has proven to be flawed. The claim that the bourgeoisie produces its own gravediggers is based on circumstantial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see, therefore, how the modern bourgeoisie is itself the product of a long course of development, of a series of revolutions in the modes of production and of exchange. (Marx, 424). In this sense, the bourgeoisie have the ability to change since they themselves are products of revolutions. In other terms, the bourgeoisie are an always changing class that has found ways to stay in power through political hegemony over the proletariat class. Marx conjures the proper preconditions for a successful rebellion but again contradicts himself through his own ideologies. Although Marx believes that capitalism will be responsible for the proletariat rebellion it is the same system that will estrange man from each other and thus prevent a successful revolt. Marx asserts certain preconditions that must exist in order for a rebellion to take place. Marx believes that capitalism provides these preconditions and therefore a revolt by the proletariat class is inevitable. As discussed in Professor Kathryn Walker s lecture, Marx describes four preconditions for a successful social rebellion, A mass of people for rebellion, a problem to rebel against, a common experience and identification of the problem. (Walker, 2005). Marx is correct in identifying the necessary preconditions yet does not take into consideration that just because the conditions are set does not mean a rebellion is inevitable. At first, I believed that my transition from a community college into a 4 year institution would essentially be a walk at the park. Unfortunately, to my dismay, I was wrong. As a result, the current demographic of the Netherlands is characterized by 20% of the Dutch population [being] immigrants or children of immigrant parents (Ersanilli, 2007); thus, for that reason the importance of this topic/problem is further elevated. Coming from Curacao, a small island which forms part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as well as whose economy depends on tourism and permanent migration, it is interesting to apply theories and empirical data to something that I have accepted as the norm. For some, living in a nation state where migration is extremely prevalent might not seem the norm, but for me it is; thus, it is compelling to see how this previous knowledge can be applied on a global scale. In order to thoroughly cover the different aspects of migration, the following points will be addressed: key definitions which aid in understanding of the topic; types of migration; the push and pull factors of migration; and the impacts on the source and destination countries. For the better understanding of this topic it is important to understand the distinction between immigrant and emigrant, as well as internal and external migration. Immigrant refers to someone who comes to a foreign country to live permanently, whereas a emigrant refers to an individual who leaves their home country to then permanently reside in a foreign country. Similarly, internal migration refers to people within a country moving to another location within its borders (e.g. from one city to another), whereas external migration refers to the act of migration across borders (e.g. from one country to another). Now that some key terms have been addressed, the types of migrants will be illustrated. People migrate to different countries for various different reasons. This results in the categorization of different migrants in relation to their reason for migrating, whether it be for social or economic reasons. The types of migrants include the following: temporary labor migrants, highly skilled migrants, irregular migrants, forced migrants, family reunification migrants, and return migrants. ... In her book about education as a vehicle for social mobility of women in society, author, philosopher, and women s rights activist Mary Wollstonecraft uses several rhetorical devices to build her argument about women s roles in society. She uses a comparison and contrast expository mode to help people understand the modern woman s experience, especially as it differs from the experience of men, appeal to pity to create an emotional connection with her audience, and restrained diction to show how confined women are in society, all through an iconoclastic and indignant tone. She compares the few tasks that civilized women are able to perform with the wide variety of tasks that men routinely perform in order to illustrate how little autonomy the modern woman has. For instance, while a male soldier can march and counter march and manipulate the senate to work for them, women do not have any of these opportunities. Men have so much more power; they govern everything that goes on outside the house, and have a lot more freedom in what they do. First, American identity occurs within the primary contexts of race, class, and gender. The basic logic of Woodkey s argument is to understand American identity we need to understand how we, as a group, separate each other into different races, classes and genders and the conflict that stems from that segregation. This segregation stems from us being power hungry, we as humans always feel the need to be better than one another which causes us to say that one race, class or gender is better than the ... Reaction Paper On Deviant I was raised by my grandparents who had many rules and taught me that it would be disrespectful not to follow them, so it was hard for me to complete the three deviant acts to write this paper. I have spent my life following social norms to the best of my ability, even ones that seems absurd to me. The object of this assignment frightened the heck out of me and I truly wasn t sure if I was going to be able to complete it. The unspoken rule that I chose to break was the infamous standing in a line waiting your turn rule, I chose to cut into the line without saying anything at all. The first time I decided to do my deviant act was while standing in line at the Tim Hortons at St. Paul s Hospital, which was especially hard for me because I ve been going there for the past four years to visit my mother. There was about 12 people standing in the line when I walked up to it and remembered that I needed to do my deviant act and that now was as good a time as any. I felt very nervous about what I was planning to do and honestly a little afraid because the area isn t exactly the greatest area s in the city. I stood at the back of the line for about 2 minutes trying to mentally prepare for what I was going to do. I finally built up the courage to walk ahead and cut into the line, leaving only one person ahead of me. No one said a single word to me, but I did notice one of the workers looking towards the line and laughing. I literally could feel the blood rushing to my face, but ...
