Halifax Explosion Essay
On the morning of December 6, 1917, a tragic disaster prevailed itself in the city of Halifax,
Nova Scotia. During WW1, the cause of this tragedy was the collision of two ships; the
Norwegian vessel SS Imo and the Belgian steamer, the Mont Blanc which occurred in front of
the Halifax port. Halifax played a crucial role during the war because it was deemed the docking
station where soldiers and supplies were sent overseas. Essentially, The Halifax Explosion was
the largest blast in Canadian history, which in turn caused rigorous turmoil throughout the
nation; despite such devastation, alleviation teams came to help seatone Halifax. To being with,
the Mont Blanc was a general cargo and munitions ship which was owned by Cie Generale
Transatlantique. The crew of the Mont Blanc was a relief ship leading them to hold many
dangerous explosives. She carried 200 tonnes of TNT, 2300 tonnes of picric acid, 61 tonnes of
gun cotton and 35 tonnes of benzyl, which was stored in barrels on the top deck. The explosives
the Mont Blanc carried had enough power to annihilate an entire city. In order to keep the secrecy
of what she was carrying... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the explosion, he was a railway dispatcher, which included him controlling the rail traffic
producing crowding due to the war. He was one of the few people who knew the cargo that she
was carrying. His message to the train was: Hold up the train. Ammunition ship afire in harbour
making for Pier 6 and will explode. Guess this will be my last message. Goodbye boys. This
telegram stopped a train, The Passenger Train No. 10 that was due to arrive at the North Street
Station, in front of the Mont Blanc: consisting of 700 passengers arriving from Saint John, New
Brunswick. Coleman saved hundreds of lives that day. His legacy still lives on in our hearts
because Canadians have not forgotten the hero that he was on that

The Disney Of Jap Japanese History, Traditions, Rites,...
We are often not aware of the richness and uniqueness of our cultural heritage from stories,
traditions, rites, designs and tales of the gods. Surrounded by high technology and its flimsy
devices, children are more and more losing their roots. We must inform them of the richness of our
traditions. Hayao Miyazaki
I can t help but wonder how does Studio Ghibli s leading director Hayao Miyazaki draw on western
sources and settings as well as Japanese history and traditions in two of Studio Ghibli s films: My
Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away?
With headquarters based in Koganei, Tokyo, Japan, Studio Ghibli is easily one of Japan s most
famous animation studio s in the world and is known as the Disney of Japan . It was founded
June 15th, 1985 after the great success of Nausicaa of the valley of the wind the studio is
headed by directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata even though they were uncertain as to
whether the studio would find any success or crash and burn they had a vision to blow a new
wind through the anime industry which was pretty ambitious to say the least but has certainly
lived up to its name. Hence the clever name given to the studio by Miyazaki himself, Ghibli means
hot wind blowing through the Sahara Desert . The name was used for Italian scouting airplanes
during World War II. Miyazaki, who has a great love for airplanes, named his studio after it.
One thing that I think makes the studio stand out is not only its lovable characters and its

Bandura Cognitive Development
He applied this gender by arguing that a child s understanding of their gender will become more
complex as their cognitive abilities do.
#2 Cognitive development is a continuous process with periods of gradual change. As a young
child my thoughts were developed through the perception of the world, and the many interactions I
faced physically living with my older brothers.
#3 Understanding how a student may think and learn can be effective in enhancing education.
Instructors can realistically pair a pleasing stimulus to each task in an appropriate way. Teaching
different techniques can also improve the curriculum. Activities such as board games that may
contain working with numbers and spatial relationships can give students a developmental ... Show

A gender role is a set of expectations dictating the types of behaviors, which are generally
considered acceptable, appropriate, or desirable for people based on their actual or perceived sex or
sexuality. Theories of gender role development can be further explained by Bandura s social
learning theory and Kohlberg s cognitive development theory. Bandura believed we learned gender
roles by modeling the actions of those in our environment. Watching, learning, and the imitation of
others each describe Babdura s social learning Theory. Kohlberg s cognitive development describes
gender roles in three stages preconvention, conventional, and post conventional.
#2Growing up with siblings of the same or opposite sex also affects gender typing. Living at
home with three older brothers was tough. Many of the activities I participated in were rarely ever
gender appropriate. With mixed gender in the household, we were assigned to do cross gender
chores. The boys usually always took out the trash, but we all worked together around the house to
get things done.
#3 While children are growing up, gender roles are highly defined by parents and teachers as well
as societal influences. Boys were taught to do boy things and girls are often taught to do girl things.
However, it is sometimes an uphill battle when these stereotypes are maintained by what children
encounter outside school, through the media, their own families or other influences of society.
Stereotyped ideas about what s suitable for boys or girls can limit children s opportunities to learn
and develop. Teachers can help create an environment that encourages children to think of
themselves as individuals, rather than editing their choices through a gender

What Are Respirators Are Common Today And Household Settings
Respirators are defined by Merriam Webster as, a device worn over the mouth and nose to protect
the respiratory tract by filtering out dangerous substances (as dusts or fumes) from inhaled air
(Merriam Webster). The use of respirators are common today in both industrial and household
settings. The earliest known idea for a respiratorcan be traced to Pliny the Elder over 1900 years
ago. He suggested the use of wearing animal bladders to protect Roman mine workers from
inhaling red oxide of lead (OSHA). In 1854, John Stenhouse developed a respirator using
powdered charcoal (see Figure 1) that could be used for protection from gas. Stenhouse s
respirator led to the use of activated charcoal, which is still used today (OSHA). There... Show more

Wet laid process
The wet laid process is a modified version of a process that is used to create paper. There are
various methods that can be utilized based on the needs of the finished product, production,
demand, etc. The particular wet laid process that was utilized in this experiment yielded a mat
that was approximately 12 x12 with varying thickness, based on the mass of material used. One
mat could be produced approximately every hour, with an additional two hours needed for the
drying of each mat. The material is mixed with a dispersal agent, flocculating agent, and a resin.
The process involved the mixing of the chemicals, along with the material. The resulting mixture is
then added to the suction box and filled with more water. A vacuum is then pulled by opening a
valve below the suction box, resulting in a mat of the material on the mesh bottom of the suction
box.
This project was a continuation of prior research conducted by Meghan Moore. She investigated
how the efficiency of using activated carbon fiber compared to traditional filtering face piece
respirators for nanoparticle aerosols. The particular activated carbon fibers used in this study were
two nonwoven activated carbon fiber felts, with a surface area of 1,000m2/g and 1,500m2/g, and

OverviewPiaget s cognitive development theory states that a child s knowledge comes from his or
her experiences as they explore their world (Berk, 2007).Vygotsky s theory focuses on how culture
is transmitted to the next generation. Through social interaction, children begin to acquire skills
that are valued by their culture (Berk, 2007).Chomsky s theory seeks to explain how children
acquire language so quickly. Chomsky asserts that children are born with innate linguistic abilities

Application to Learning/EducationPiaget s theory can be applied to learning to help educators
develop age appropriate learning environments. This theory is also useful in the development of
curriculum and assessment. Vygotsky s theory is pertinent to successful teaching. Children come to
school with a wide range of abilities. It is the teachers responsibility to identify the zone of
proximal distance and utilize scaffolding to bring each student to where they need to be
developmentally and academically. Understanding that each child has a different frame of reference
due to cultural differences is essential to ensuring that teachers are successful in supporting their
students growth (Grace, 2017).This theory helps us understand learning because it explains how
children development their language at such a high rate. It is also helpful because it lets educators
know that challenging students above their level of knowledge is the best way to support students
growth. Theory: Mechanisms of ChangeTo progress from one stage to the next, an individual must
successfully experience each stage. As children explore their environments they are actively
developing higher levels of thinking. In order for this theory to be successful, adults must have
extensive knowledge on what is expected of children at each stage of development. A teacher must
know what level of knowledge

What Are The Disadvantages Of Concrete
In 2005, H Azamirad et al published a paper A criticism of Self Compacting Concrete which talks
about the problems in using SCC such as segregation and roles of different materials which affect
it. It talks about the economic problems too. Finally it says about some projects which are executed
with SCC. This paper helped in identifying the disadvantages of using SCC.
In 1990, T.H. Cooke wrote a book ConcretePumping and Spraying: A practical guide . This book
is related to pumping operations of concrete. A nomograph is suggested by this book which is used
for determining the working power required for conventional concrete and SCC so that costing can
be done. It explains the graph and tells the method of usage.

Pumping operations will require less energy as it possesses flow able properties. Further due to
its flowing nature speed of construction will be increased. Rapid rate of concrete placement is
possible decreasing the placing time. Reduction in site manpower is achieved in various stages
like faster pumping requires less manpower hours, reduction of vibration needs negligible
manpower, smooth surface obtained from SCC needs less labor for finishing purposes, if SCC is
placed properly then there are negligible bug holes and patches on surface thus reducing the
manpower demand. The construction process becomes more productive which is evident by the
fact that the truck has to wait for less time for unloading of SCC and can go early thus improving
the productivity. Also the service life of vibration equipment and formwork will increase. Due to
elimination of vibration to consolidate the mixture, the forms used in the precast operations will
receive less wear and tear, decreasing the regular maintenance costs and costs of investing in new
forms. SCC also shows high early strength allowing early removal of formwork thus increasing

Social Medi The Global Phenomenon That It Is Today
Introduction Social media is currently a worldwide entertainments and social platform that
dominates the majority of today s society. Social media websites such as MySpace and LinkedIn
exploded in popularity in early 2000 and started people s obsession with such sites (Hendricks:
2013). Although these social media sites still exist, amongst many others, Facebook continues to
dominate the global social platform rankings with more than 1.5 billion active accounts (Kemp:
2016). This company report will highlight how Facebook originated, and became the global
phenomenon that it is today. Origins of the company Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg

Carlson writes that it was not until 2007, when Massachusetts Judge Douglas P. Woodlock stated
that the allegations, from the Winklevoss twins was, tissue thin. This was in reference to the
agreement that Zuckerberg supposedly had with the brothers. During the case, Woodlock stated
that, Dorm room chit chat does not make a contract . It was not until a year later that a judge
ruled against Facebook s move to dismiss the case (Carlson: 2010). Facebook s popularity in the
beginning Despite these problems that could have potentially put Facebook s success into
jeopardy, the site began to grow in popularity by the day and enjoyed wildfire like success
(Little: 2012). Although Zuckerberg originally created the website specifically for Harvard
University students, in 2005 other universities could sign up and the popularity of the site then
spread to the UK (Phillips: 2007). As Facebook became more and more popular, Zuckerberg was
quoted as saying, it might be nice in the future to get some ads going, to offset the cost of the
servers , particularly because at the time, he was paying $85 per month out of his own pocket for
the server space (Little: 2012). He also discussed potentially selling the company. Maybe when I m

The Effects Of Prenatal And Delivery Care On Mothers
I exclude births of twins from this analysis. Further, I keep only mothers who were in the same
residence for at least a year before the birth of the child to ensure the proper matching of the
mother with the state level expenditure. Table 2 shows the distribution and use of adequate
prenatal and delivery care by different population subgroups. The use of both adequate prenatal
and delivery care is higher among mothers whose age at birth was in the 20 30 age group than
among those who were younger and older. It is lowest among those above 30, but they constitute
the smallest proportion of mothers in the sample. On the other hand, the use rate for both services
decreases with parity. The mothers education is more relevant in the use of... Show more content on

Further, although poor individuals used public providers for prenatal care more than non poor
individuals, their use rate for delivery at public facilities was almost half that of non poor
individuals. While for the full sample, approximately 60% had delivery at home, the rate was close
to 80% for the poor.
Controlling for these factors, I find a significant positive effect of public expenditure on the use
of adequate prenatal and delivery care. Table 4 shows the coefficients and marginal effects from
the logit regressions on the effect of public expenditure on adequate prenatal and delivery care.
The marginal effects for a continuous variable in a logit model report the average change in the
probability of success for a unit change of the variable among all observations in the sample. For
categorical variables, they report the average change in the probability of success for a particular
category compared to the base category. The results show that the doubling of per capita health
expenditure is associated with a significant increase of 0.043 in the probability of both adequate
prenatal and delivery care. The use of such services increases with the mother s age at birth. This
finding is similar to the cross tabulations, except for the oldest group, which constitutes a smaller
proportion of the full sample. Additionally, the use rates for both services decrease significantly with

My First Self Driving Car
As the years progress, software engineers are creating new and advanced technology to help
people multitask such as developing autonomous cars. Autonomous cars are robotic cars that are
fully capable of driving humans around without human help. The very first self driving car was
created by Francis P. Houdina in 1925 and was tested in New York City. He called it The Radio
Controlled Driverless Car but this car stayed as a prototype. In the 1980s, the first self sufficient

Challenges Japanese and Korean Immigrants as well as Chinese Immigrants Faced in America The
United States experienced major waves of immigration during the nineteenth and twentieth century.
Many immigrants came to America seeking greater economic opportunity. However, the Japanese
and Korean immigrants, as well as the Chinese immigrants faced a great amount of racism while
making their way in America. For the Japanese and Korean immigrants, they faced challenges
including: segregated schools, the Gentlemen s Agreement, and the California Alien Land Law. On
the other hand, the Chinese immigrants faced challenges as well, including: the 1875 Page Act,

Both groups of immigrants had one goal in mind while in America. This goal was to seek
money, live a better life style, and return to their homeland being able to provide for their
families. They faced many hardships back home and they were determined to do what it would
take to make a change for themselves. However, these immigrants did not expect the unfair
treatment that came along with the work they set out to do in America. Japanese laborers were at
first recruited to work on the sugar plantations of the independent monarchy of Hawaii. Some of
them left Japan in 1868 on a three year contract. These men faced brutal working conditions and
low wages which led most of them to return to Japan. On the other hand, as mentioned earlier, the
Chinese faced brutal working conditions as well, while working on the railroad. The first Chinese
were hired in 1865 at approximately $28 per month to do very dangerous work. They lived simply
and cooked their own meals, consisting of fish, dried oysters and fruit, mushrooms and seaweed.
Work in the beginning was slow and difficult. Many risked their lives working in these conditions.
The working conditions were harsh for these groups of immigrants and they faced discrimination
throughout their work.

Essay The Teleological Argument
William Paley and David Hume s argument over God s existence is known as the teleological
argument, or the argument from design. Arguments from design are arguments concerning God or
some type of creator s existence based on the ideas of order or purpose in universe. Hume takes on
the approach of arguing against the argument of design, while Paley argues for it. Although Hume
and Paley both provide very strong arguments, a conclusion will be drawn at the end to distinguish
which philosophiser holds a stronger position. Throughout this essay I will be examining arguments
with reference to their work from Paley s The Watch and the Watchmaker and Hume s The Critique
of the Teleological Argument.
Paley s analogy came about from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that one knows of God s existence through a posteriori knowledge (Paley, 1802, 196
197). For example, he makes a comparison between the universe to a watch, and God to
watchmaker. Watches are made by watchmaker with prior experience with it, but we never truly
experience it. This meaning that we ourselves are incapable of such craftsmanship and things that
exhibits design has a designer and Paley claims that therefore the universe it must be the work of
God (Paley, 1802, 197).
His second argument for design he makes a comparison between machines and humans saying that
both are equally complex and it was built with a purpose in mind. If changes are made to the watch
such as taking away an internal component that makes it runs, or the minute or hour hand, its
purpose would suddenly change and it would no longer be a watch.
In his third argument about arguing from mind to design, he states that using the mind as a
representation is only a small part of universe (Paley, 1802, 197). For example, a watch must have
had a watchmaker because such a complex idea and mechanism could not have just come from
nature. A creator with prior knowledge of the watch must have created it. Therefore, the universe
must have had a creator. This creator was God.
Lastly, his fourth argument assumes that things can be created by matter therefore if other things
say otherwise it would be disregarded (Paley,

Conducting An In-Depth Interview With Tijuana
Interviews are often conducted in because we are interested in gathering information/ perspectives
on people s lives. According to Hoodnaard (2015), an in depth interview s main purpose is to
provide the opportunity for people to explain their experiences, attitudes, feelings, and definitions of
the situation in their own terms and in ways that are meaningful to them (p. 102). Conducting an in

Tijuana s, shared understandings of and interactions with the course waitlist are of extreme
relevance to my qualitative research (Hoodnaard, 2015). While conducting this interview, I

Linear Algebra Class Analysis
From the very beginning of my academic career, I have always relied on math classes as a support
system for understanding anything around me, but it was not until I went high school that I
realized how much I love math and it s never changing principles. During freshman year, I took
Honors Algebra 1, which was considered the standard class for 9th grade honors students entering
my high school, yet when I sat down in the classroom, I felt like I didn t belong there. Even
though my class was accelerated compared to the regular algebra classes, my desire to go ahead
of my classmates only became stronger and my motivation for my educational drive increased, like
a positive slope to a linear equation. When the schoolyear ended and I was selected

Relationship Between Female And Female Relationships Essay
Number one and one of many, in terms of wives and casual affairs, will be defined by exploring
the Japanese Heian period s marriage system, the marriage living arrangements, the way in which
affairs were pursued, and the way Japanese people communicated. The marriage system was based
on three different types of relationships. Men of the Heian period had multiple women for these
types of relationships during the same time. Married couples throughout this time usually did not
live in a house of their own, or even together for that matter. Affairs during this time in history
were not always entirely based on sexual attraction to physical appearance. There are a lot of
differences and similarities between how married couples interacted and males and female in casual
relationships interacted, but there is a defined line between number one and one of many.
First, throughout the Heian period, and much of early Japanese history, the majority of marriages
were polygamous; however aristocratic men were often monogamous. There was also a 3 tiered
marriage system. This system consisted of a principle wife, a secondary wife, and unofficial casual
affairs. The principled wife is required to be faithful, even if the husband is not, and she is not
allowed to divorce. She had the number one title; her children were expected to be given first
consideration for everything; inheritance, title, marriage and position. The principle wife is usually
very educated, beautiful, and high ranking.

All Quiet On The Western Front Humanity Quotes
Brendan Doherty

Lost Humanity We have lost all feeling for one another. We can hardly control ourselves when our
hunted glance lights on the form of some other man. We are insensible, dead men, who through
some trick, some dreadful magic, are still able to run (Remarque 115). This quote shows the
thoughts that run through Paul Baumer s mind during a long battle. The quote demonstrates the
stripped sense of humanity and self control the soldiers have, and the animalistic nature the soldiers
have developed. Throughout the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, Baumer and the Second
Company become isolated from their humanity, their childhood, and other humans. Becoming
isolated from one s humanity changes a human in drastic ways. A word of command has made
these silent figures our enemies; a word of command might transform them into our friends
(Remarque 195). Remarque uses this quote to show how the ones in authority turn the soldiers under

Observation Of The Decatur Tribe
I have left my home planet, to go observe humans, which are one of the species that live on the
planet Earth. This paper looks at a specific the Decatur tribe that lives on one of the northern
landmasses. This tribe is an industrialized community that developed in an abundant natural habit.
My observations were from a spectator viewpoint and I did not have any contact with the humans.
My observation took place in one of their central gathering places. In this gathering place, there
were areas that were devoted to the trading of goods, to making and eating of meals and place to
socialize. Throughout this observation of humanlife, there seemed to be a very orderly way that the
humans in the Decatur tribe live their lives. Humans seem to be driven by a logical and ordered
nature. Humans have rules and orders the help shape their culture and how they interact with others.
Clothing
One of the ways that the order of their life can be seen how they cover their bodies. There was a
standard way that humans wear cloth to preserve modesty. Humans that did not conform to the
standards would stand out. Most humans had their torso covered. The amount of the limb that was
covered dependent on the human. Most of the male humans observed had both their upper and
lower completed covered. For females, it depended on how much of their limbs were covered.
Many also worn cloth that wrapped around both lower limbs, it of each limb being warped
individual like the males. Following this standard,

Formal Social Control And Informal Social Deviance
In society, there are sanctions that are used to prevent, stop, and punish behavior viewed as bad
or unacceptable. These unaccepted behaviors are called social deviance, and these sanctions are
enforced through two forms of social control: formal social control, and informal social control.
Both of these forms of social control work towards achieving the same goal: discouraging
violations of society s accepted behaviors, or social deviance, and punishing those who do. But
what is the difference between these two forms of social control? How are these social control
mechanisms carried out? Formal social control is a form of control that is carried out by authorized
agents, such as police officers, judges, school administrators,... Show more content on

In this case, judges and religious officials are the agents of formal social control. These laws and
rules work well in terms of stopping this unwanted behavior because of the penalties that follow
if one deviates. Whether one agrees with the military hair rules and laws about same sex
marriage or not, they will often follow them, as they will other rules and laws, as to avoid the
punishments that would follow if they were to break them. Informal social control is a form of
social control used casually to enforce norms (Schaefer 149). Informal social control is not
enforced with rules or laws. Typically, informal social control agents are just everyday people.
When people notice social deviance, they will use informal social control mechanisms
including smiles, laughter, a raised eyebrow, and ridicule (Schaefer 149) to combat this
deviance. For example, it is widely accepted in the United States that one should walk on the
right side of the hallway, sidewalk, aisle, etc. However, there is no formally written rule or law
stating that walking on the left side is unacceptable. Therefore, when someone walks on the left,
there is no formal form of punishment. However, this person will likely be met with dirty looks or
raised eyebrows from the people around them. Therefore, because of this informal social control,
people generally adhere to unwritten rule of walking on the right side. Similarly, it is widely
accepted that people should hold the

The Chrysanthemums Symbolism
How can a flower simply represent the personality of a person? Chrysanthemum comes from the
Greek prefix of chrys meaning golden and anthemion meaning flower. John Steinbeck s short story
discusses the life of Elisa Allen, an advocate for gardening with an internal want for a more
fulfilling life. The chrysanthemum is an ironic flower to use in this story because the
chrysanthemum is a symbol of optimism and joy, which is lacking in Elisa s life. Steinbeck brings
the theme of genderinequality to the surface by using the symbols of the chrysanthemums and the
Salinas Valley as representations of different feelings and emotions in Elisa s life. In John Steinbeck

The chrysanthemums symbolize Elisa s life and how society has forbidden her to be anything
other than a housewife or something within the boundaries of her home. When Elisa offers the
Tinker her chrysanthemums, she was also offering herself because she saw herself as one with
her flowers. When the tinker tosses her flowers on the road this mimics the way he rejects her
and the way society has rejected women. The flowers, just like women, are seen as merely
decorations, not something that can be daring. The chrysanthemums like women are golden, but
golden only in regards to looks, nothing more. When Elisa tells the Tinker she can fix pots and
would love to live the life that he had, he says It ain t the right kind of a life for a woman. Women
are supposed to be housewives and mothers. Even though Elisa wants a more thrilling life, she
follows in the footsteps of a traditional housewife. She laid out her husband s clothes and ran his
bath water because she knows that is her place, even if she disagrees with it. The Salinas tie
themselves to the theme because they limit the potential of Elisa s life just as society does. The
valley keeps Elisa within the confinement of her quaint life. The two men in Steinbeck s story,
Henry and the Tinker, do not notice the intelligence, beauty, and potential that Elisa has just as
society does not see it either. Steinbeck uses

When Worlds Collide Essay
In the film When Worlds Collide , the answer to the question How did the American Indigenous
populations impact Spain (and vice versa)? was focused on the changes in wealth, class systems,
and the Spanish conquistadors intentions. The first topic covered in the film is how today s
America and today s world are heavily influenced by the culture, heritage, and history of the Mestizo
race and their Spanish counterparts. The video then explains that the Mestizo race came into
existence after the Spaniards had children with the Natives of the New World . Next, the film
highlights the differences between the cultures of the Spanish and the native indigenous peoples of
Mesoamerica. One of the differences between the two cultures was that the Mesoamericans had a

Stand Your Ground Law
Stand your ground law is beneficial to the state of Florida. Stand Your Ground is a form of self
defense law that allows individuals to meet force with deadly force without an affirmative duty to

additionally, twenty two other states adopted this law, which is used in different situations in each
state, but are very similar. The law was adopted from a 17th century English common lawcalled

This law has allowed drug dealer and gang members walk free from murder chargers.
Furthermore, the number of cases that claim the defense of stand your ground law are
continuing to increase. Why, because defense attorney s are using the law in a way to state
legislators never imagined. This defense has played a major role in a number of cases with
minor or no injuries (Tampabay.com). For instance, in the case of Jordan Davis, the stand your
ground defense was abused by Dunn. Why, because he shot in the car of a young teen because
he thought he saw a gun, even though no harm caused. Dunn in this case could have avoided the
altercation by ignoring the young teen music in staying in his car. Since Dunn knew the stand
your ground law, he knew that he could get away with the crime. In nearly a third of the cases
the Times analyzed, defendants initiated the fight, shot an unarmed person or pursued their
victim and still went free (Tampabay.com). In fact, about two third of defendants that used this
claim used a shovel, gun, and other weapons like an ice pick, and a chair leg. Even though, there
are many factors that play a role when a decision is being made in a defense claim, like the
location of evidence, witnesses, and the size of the party and age involved in the case, facts do not
matter long as the person has a reasonable excuse. Reasonable excuses are causing people to abuse
the law, because

Nasa s The Space Of Space
After NASA s moon landing among other achievements during the Space Race, many Americans
yearned to explore the depths of the unknown Universe. From quasars to brown dwarf stars, there
are many wonders that the universe holds for the human race if we decide to leap into the
exploration of the universe. Some may believe that reaching for the stars is too costly. However,
the exploration of space is within our grasp, and by increasing NASAs funding, we are able to
reach them. So yes, we should fund our space administration in order for us to reach the stars.
Firstly, without sufficient funding, NASA would be politically reliant on Russia due to NASA
s need to launch its commercial crew using Russian spaceships on Russian land. According to
The Guardian, NASA s budget has dropped from 4.41 percent of the federal budget in 1966, to
today s budget of 0.5 percent of the federal budget. As a result of continued decrease in funds,
NASA has been severely crippled in its ability to operate; this is why NASA s budget needs to
be increased. Without funds nor vehicles to transport its astronauts, NASA must rely on its
Russian counterpart in order to fly Americans into space. Due to a rocky relationship with Russia
that stems from the Cold War, it is not viable for us to depend our entire space commercial crew
program with Russia. Depending on Russia also causes NASA as well as the United States to look
weak in front of the national community. Such weakness may cause our political

ollywood always tries to look for succeeding great actors in the NFL, but mostly they do not find

Most NFL players retire at 35, while still having more time and opportunities of starting new

The Life Cycle of a Social Problem
The Life Cycle of a Social Problem A social problem is a condition that a group of people view as
being undesirable. These can be a variety of different problems. They can occur in your
community, school, church or any place that people interact with each other or an object. When
a social problem arises there is a general way that they are handled. The earliest of definition on
how a social problem is recognized was made by Richard Fuller and Richard Myers. There cycle
had three stages. The first stage was that the group had to some situation or behavior as a problem.
Once they stated that there was a problem the next step was to transforms the situation or beahvior

These roles of power also have concentrated link to the critical approach. When a problem is
merely a micro problem it is normally blamed on the attributes of people rather than the integrity
of the system. With any social problem in general there are two moral entrepreneurs. They are
the rule creators ,which is the group that is trying to fix a behavior or situation that doesn t agree
with there ideals or belifs, and the rule enforcers which are the police and other public officals
that will have to oversee that the law or resolution is upheld by the public. The simple one of
these two are the rule enforcers. There main part is just to uphold these rules so therefore they
look at it is a job and not a way of life persay like a rule creator would. They also come into the life
cycle after the solution or resoultion has been determined .During their time of upholding the
new law they will make many enemies and friends but the only thing that really matters is that
the new law or rule will be upheld so there will not be another social problem of this nature. The
second of the moral entrepreneurs and the most complex one is the rule creators. They are the
ones that start fighting for the social problem and have to continue even if they are successful in
getting a new rule or law established. The first step in a rule creator is the stage of becoming a

large. Lower class citizens, including children, have to work very hard to try and make ends

No matter what sex or race you are, everybody deserves an equal chance. There should not be a
big gap between the high class and the lower class. This gap needs to be changed. The poor
people in todays society are working way too hard for the money they are making. It is hard for
these people to live happy lives. There should not be people sitting at home with no worries
what so ever, while other citizens are working their hardest just to put food on the table. All
people should have the opportunity to get a decent job and live happy lives. This may come
down to taxing the wealthier more. There is a big difference when it comes to the wealthy and
the poor people. The wealthy have enough money to be taxed more and still live comfortable
lives for and give their children happy lives. That is not right or fair to some people. Something
needs to change. Nobody should be worrying about making enough money to support a family of
their own, or even have a roof over their head for themselves. Women should not have to work
hard labor jobs. Women should be able to chose their job depending on their skills. They should
not have to dread getting up to work in a factory or mill. Not only that, but they run the risk of
getting injured every day, as well. If a woman cannot work because she was injured at work, the
family will not be able to support itself. Children, especially, should not be working in factories
and mills. They are just children, and some of them not educated enough to do a job like this.
This gives them more of a chance of being injured on the job. That can lead to multiple injuries if
someone tries to help, then that becomes a big problem. Kids should be able to be kids until they
are the proper age to start schooling or the workforce. Kids should have an education before
entering the workforce. They should not have to worry about waking up early every day to go to
work and run the chance of getting severely injured. The

Analysis Of The Book Murtagh And Huckleberry Finn
Murtagh and Huck Finn
In great works of literature many of the same traits and characteristics appear in the main characters.
Adventure books where you find Heroes and villains in a constant struggle to thwart the others
efforts are where you could notice the reoccurring traits the most. Heroes are often very similar,
demonstrating similar strengths and weaknesses. I compare Huckleberry Finn, to Murtagh of the
Inheritance series. Although Murtagh is not the main protagonist, he is most certainly a fallen
hero, in my book once a hero always a hero. As long as they are remembered for what they were
and not what they are, a hero they will remain. I hope in time I will be able to lead you down the
path of similarities and differences between these two amazing characters and heroes. These
similarities include characters such as courage, and a desire to be what they want to be to go
where they want to go.
One of the many traits these characters have in common is their stories. What they went through,
and how they were raised. Murtagh s mother died when he was young and he was raised by a
father who cared nothing for him. When his father died Murtagh was taken in by the king who
was determined to mold Murtagh into man the king thought Murtagh should be. Huck s story is
almost the same. Huck s mother died when he was young. Huck s father, Pap, was a drunk and

Murder and Marriage in William Shakespeare s Hamlett
Imagine the scenario where a man murders his brother and then marries his brother s wife. In
William Shakespeare s play Hamlet, this is Hamlet s reality. Hamlet s uncle, Claudius, killed his
father, Old Hamlet, the king of Denmark, and then his mother, Gertrude, and uncle got married
approximately two months later. The effects of these morbid events are substantial on the young
prince s psyche. Later, the ghost of Old Hamletappears to Hamlet and commands him to exact
vengeance for what Claudius has done and murderthe new king. This makes Hamlet desperate for
revenge, so intermittently, Hamlet soliloquizes his current state of mind and his plans of revenge
to the audience. Hamlet s attitude of revenge progresses throughout the play from analytical and
indecisive to rash and bloodthirsty because of an increased need to avenge his father s death
before he no longer is able to kill Claudius.
After having an inimical conversation with Gertrude and Claudius, in the opening scene of the
play, Hamlet is in ruins, grief stricken, and despairing; the only killing he wants to execute is of
himself. Hamlet is in Hell; his mother and uncle s o erhasty marriage (Shakespeare II, ii, 57) has

cries out for death, wishing that the Everlasting had not fixed his canon gainst self slaughter! O

Preventing Complications From Gestational Diabetes
Promotion of a Healthy Lifestyle to Prevent Complications from Gestational Diabetes
Gestational diabetes, glucose intolerance with onset or first recognition occurring during
pregnancy, is a problem more pregnant women are facing. The exact prevalence rate of gestational
diabetes mellitus is unknown but in the United States it is estimated to affect anywhere from one
to 14 percent of pregnancies (Desisto, Shin, Sharma, 2014). There are several risk factors which
increase a woman s risk for gestational diabetes. Some of these risks include: family history of
diabetes mellitus, previous history of gestational diabetes, advanced maternal age, previous infant
weighing 9 pounds or more at birth, glycosuria, polycystic ovary syndrome, and ... Show more

Complications to the fetus include: macrosomia, hypoglycemia, neural tube defects, preterm
delivery, shoulder dystocia, hyperbilirubinemia, and being large for gestational age (Elkins Smith
Taylor, 2013) (Kim, 2010). So, the purpose of this paper is to discuss the care management
strategies to promote a healthy lifestyle in obese pregnant women diagnosed with gestational
diabetes mellitus, to control their gestational diabetes mellitus without the intervention of insulin
treatment and to prevent complications from gestational diabetes mellitus.
Care Management Process
Expected Outcomes Gestational diabetes is a significant diagnosis in pregnancy but it is expected
that obese women diagnosed with gestational diabetes will be able to control their diabetes without
the intervention of insulin treatment. They should be able to do this through lifestyle changes. By
controlling their gestational diabetes mellitus, the women will be able to reduce the risk or even
prevent maternal complications and fetal complications associated with gestational diabetes
mellitus.

The first step in managing gestational diabetes to reduce risks of maternal and fetal complications,

What Are African American Stereotypes
What African American stereotype is talked about daily? Everyday stereotypes are given to
African Americans because of their skin color and the history they have had in our nation. I
challenge African American stereotypes because of my song taste and my Lack of involvement
in sports. In today s society African Americans are expected to listen to Hip hop when honestly
not all of us do. I personally don t listen to rap much at all. Don t get me wrong I don t hate it but
it s not in my top 25 favorite songs category. I listen to hardcore stuff weather that would be metal
or electronic music like dubstep. It bothers me when people are shocked that I listen to that kind of
music when music is meant for everyone not for just

In Both Sylvia Plath’S The Bell Jar And Kate Chopin’S The
In both Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar and Kate Chopin s The Awakening, the female protagonist is
portrayed as an artist who suffers from mental instability. Although the works were written over 60
years apart, The Awakening in 1889 and The Bell Jar in 1963, both novels were revolutionary for
their times in terms of feminism, extramarital sex, and suicide. Both works explore the ways that
females may temporarily escape, or attempt to escape, the confines of their own minds: the chains
that lead them to attempt or complete suicide. Each woman finds brightness in her art, Edna with
her painting and Esther through writing, immersion in water, and the ability to embrace her
sexuality. Both novels use vivid symbolism to portray the feelings of... Show more content on

Joyce Dyer comments that the bird and Edna resemble each other in another way; both are
meant to be wild, but are domesticated for the sake of the family. She even has Madame
Ratignolle feel [her] shoulder blades, to see if [her] wings were strong hoping that she too has
wings to allow her to fly away from the expectations of tradition set on her (Chopin 300.) While
Edna expresses that she is not thinking of any extraordinary flights, to Arobin, she does not deny
her wish to fly, and escape from society (300). Unlike before, when Edna wishes to have wings, in
this instance Edna realizes that she has wings, or the power to escape. This changes her true desires
from wanting to fly to not becoming one of the weaklings bruised, exhausted, fluttering back to
earth (300). Although Edna has not acted upon her thoughts to become free, she is aware that she
has the power to escape and live outside of society. Through the bird symbolism, Chopin suggests
that women lack the ability to be happy within the circumstances society expects them to maintain.
Both women also find freedom through immersion in water. In The Bell Jar, Esther Greenwood
finds freedom in her baths. She takes baths to clean and purify herself from the grime of the world
around her, even saying I never feel so much myself as when I m in a hot bath (Plath 20). Edna

getting a present for him. This self blame and responsibility for the death of his aunt gives
Charlie mental issues and depression. This ultimately led to difficulty with coping stress and
blame for Charlie as he grows up. Only after a long stay at the hospital does Charlie realize that
Aunt Helen is to blame for his mental issues. Charlie does not realize Aunt Helen is hurting him
based off her past issues. Aunt Helen has had many problems with men in her life and this may

him, based off the fact that someone as close as Aunt Helen has hurt him in the past. With love and
support, Charlie learns to deal with his issues because he finally knows the real reason behind

Expedited Naturalization
The good thing about the U.S. army is that an illegal immigrant can become a citizen if they are
enrolled in the army. That is a chance that an undocumented immigrant can t get deported, Special
provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) authorize U.S. Citizenship and
Immigration Services (USCIS) to expedite the application and naturalization process for current
members of the U.S. armed forces and recently discharged servicemembers. Generally, qualifying
militaryservice includes service with one of the following: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps,
Coast Guard and National Guard. In addition, spouses of members of the U.S. armed forces who

The Cohort Component Method For Many State And Local...
3.5 Cohort Component Method
One way to Project an area s population is the cohort component method, which is used for many
state and local governments. This method offers in depth demographic statistics on why and how
the population changes. There are 2 steps in this method. The first is to separate the population into
groups of age and sex. The second step is to implement fertility, mortality, and migration rates to
each distinct group. There are some things that have to be taken into account for this method
before computing anything. The first is that all of the age groups have to be the same in that the
years in the cohorts (n) are matching. The second is that the amount of years in the projection
intervals (z) should identify with the number of years in the cohorts (n). The last one is that all the
rates used in this model have to be altered to show five year projection periods.
3.5.1 The Mortality Component
The first thing we do is calculate the female population likely to survive until the year 2005. There
are two things that can happen which rely on the age specific survival rate (nsrx). The populations
for females in the initial year which is 2000 (nFx 2000) can move in the start of 2005 to the
following age cohort (n SFx+z 2005) or will live from 2000 to 2005 (n DFx 2000 2005). The first
calculation is to multiply the launch year of the female population in 2000 by its age specific
survival rate. n SFx+z 2005 =( nFx 2000 )( nsrx )
nFx 2000 is the female

Essay On Feral Hog
Feral Hog Release Impacts and Management solutions The devastation of soil, natural habitat and
the destruction of mass farmlands all caused by the notorious feral hogs that has become nature s
neighbor that we have all come to despise. Today I would like to discuss how this resilient species
has impacted the natural environments, and how their population is soaring in numbers; and last I
would like to propose solutions to address the current issues were are facing and how to manage
them. We haven t always endured the dramatic effect of these ghastly creatures. Around three
hundred years ago the Spaniards, during their explorations introduced the hogs to Texas. The hogs
were intended for sustenance and lard for the new settlers here in America. During the fight for
Texas s independence the hogs were left unattended and managed to escape their encasements. That
being said, the hogs began reproducing at an alarming rate; now the feral hog... Show more content

According to the journal article from the University of Nebraska In most states feral swine are
unprotected or classified as an agricultural pest, therefore hunting methods are liberal and swine can
be harvested throughout the year. States where feral swine are classified as game animals rely on
hunter harvest to control or regulate swine populations; however, sport hunting has had negligible
effects on swine population management (Nathan03). This method has seem to be the most
effective, but there are others that can be considered reliable as well. There are methods that are
nonlethal and are effective to satisfy the need to rid these beast from our homes. All of these
methods that have been mentioned are perfectly for eliminating the current threat like creating
fences for prevention and traps and eventually relocation of the animals. This method is less

Role Of The Power Industry And The Services It Provides Essay
The main goal of DTL Power s cybersecurity strategy is maintaining data integrity and availability
of resources while ensuring that all systems and facilities exceed the industry standards. This
strategy is critically important due to the nature of the power industry and the services it provides.
The implementation of the controls falls in line with the cybersecurity strategy designated by
leadership. The hacktivist and virus attack were able to successfully penetrate our system causing
downtime and affecting system integrity. Cyberattacks are becoming more frequent and evasive
therefore it is imperative that strong securitymeasures be enforced to not only secure network
resources but to prevent unauthorized access.
In order to prevent unauthorized access to DTL Power s data, the cybersecurity team has selected
strict filtering controls to secure the firewall with the strictest configurations to better control traffic
traversing the network and disabling all unnecessary open ports. A firewall with strict filtering
rules detects intrusions and prevents unauthorized access by policing the traffic and access
requests to the firewall. By disabling firewall ports that are not necessary for normal
communication, attack opportunities are greatly reduced. Devices use specific ports for
communicating so it is important to conduct a thorough inquiry into which ports need to remain
open. An attacker can take advantage of open ports, gain access and create a backdoor for

The Meaning Of Discipline In School
Discipline means follow rules to be worked hard by someone in the interest of teaching something
to the student. Discipline is taught in many places in many ways. I was taught discipline at a school
that studied the art of taekwondo. This school helped me with my shyness and confidence problem.
Without Euns Martial ArtsCenter I would not be the person I am today. My first year of taekwondo
taught me the meaning of discipline. Joining this school was one the best decisions I ever made.
I can never forget the day I decided this was the thing I wanted to do. It was a sunny day and my
dad and I were wondering around Knoxville when we came upon EMAC. My dad had decided
that I needed something to help me with my lack of confidence so we walked through that door.
I was amazed as we sat there and watched the class. There were colorful belts and at the end they
fought each other with pads on their legs and arms. After they bowed and shook hands with the
teacher and his assistants. He walked over to where we were sitting.
Welcome! he said with a Korean accent. My dad introduced himself and I did the same. Then
we followed him to a room in the back of what looked like a padded room where the class had
just practiced. I didn t know it then it said OFFICE. I was amazed by the Korean artifacts. He
and my dad talked like what seemed like an hour. Then I tried on uniforms they were white and
felt like itchy paper on my skin ,but it fit. We then said good bye to the teacher and went on

  • 2. Halifax Explosion Essay On the morning of December 6, 1917, a tragic disaster prevailed itself in the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. During WW1, the cause of this tragedy was the collision of two ships; the Norwegian vessel SS Imo and the Belgian steamer, the Mont Blanc which occurred in front of the Halifax port. Halifax played a crucial role during the war because it was deemed the docking station where soldiers and supplies were sent overseas. Essentially, The Halifax Explosion was the largest blast in Canadian history, which in turn caused rigorous turmoil throughout the nation; despite such devastation, alleviation teams came to help seatone Halifax. To being with, the Mont Blanc was a general cargo and munitions ship which was owned by Cie Generale Transatlantique. The crew of the Mont Blanc was a relief ship leading them to hold many dangerous explosives. She carried 200 tonnes of TNT, 2300 tonnes of picric acid, 61 tonnes of gun cotton and 35 tonnes of benzyl, which was stored in barrels on the top deck. • 3. The Disney Of Jap Japanese History, Traditions, Rites,... We are often not aware of the richness and uniqueness of our cultural heritage from stories, traditions, rites, designs and tales of the gods. Surrounded by high technology and its flimsy devices, children are more and more losing their roots. We must inform them of the richness of our traditions. Hayao Miyazaki I can t help but wonder how does Studio Ghibli s leading director Hayao Miyazaki draw on western sources and settings as well as Japanese history and traditions in two of Studio Ghibli s films: My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away? With headquarters based in Koganei, Tokyo, Japan, Studio Ghibli is easily one of Japan s most famous animation studio s in the world and is known as the Disney of Japan . It was founded June 15th, 1985 after the great success of Nausicaa of the valley of the wind the studio is headed by directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata even though they were uncertain as to whether the studio would find any success or crash and burn they had a vision to blow a new wind through the anime industry which was pretty ambitious to say the least but has certainly lived up to its name. Hence the clever name given to the studio by Miyazaki himself, Ghibli means hot wind blowing through the Sahara Desert . The name was used for Italian scouting airplanes during World War II. Miyazaki, who has a great love for airplanes, named his studio after it. One thing that I think makes the studio stand out is not only its lovable characters and its ... Bandura Cognitive Development He applied this gender by arguing that a child s understanding of their gender will become more complex as their cognitive abilities do. #2 Cognitive development is a continuous process with periods of gradual change. As a young child my thoughts were developed through the perception of the world, and the many interactions I faced physically living with my older brothers. #3 Understanding how a student may think and learn can be effective in enhancing education. Instructors can realistically pair a pleasing stimulus to each task in an appropriate way. Teaching different techniques can also improve the curriculum. A gender role is a set of expectations dictating the types of behaviors, which are generally considered acceptable, appropriate, or desirable for people based on their actual or perceived sex or sexuality. Theories of gender role development can be further explained by Bandura s social learning theory and Kohlberg s cognitive development theory. Bandura believed we learned gender roles by modeling the actions of those in our environment. Watching, learning, and the imitation of others each describe Babdura s social learning Theory. Kohlberg s cognitive development describes gender roles in three stages preconvention, conventional, and post conventional. #2Growing up with siblings of the same or opposite sex also affects gender typing. Living at home with three older brothers was tough. Many of the activities I participated in were rarely ever gender appropriate. With mixed gender in the household, we were assigned to do cross gender chores. The boys usually always took out the trash, but we all worked together around the house to get things done. #3 While children are growing up, gender roles are highly defined by parents and teachers as well as societal influences. Boys were taught to do boy things and girls are often taught to do girl things. However, it is sometimes an uphill battle when these stereotypes are maintained by what children encounter outside school, through the media, their own families or other influences of society. Stereotyped ideas about what s suitable for boys or girls can limit children s opportunities to learn and develop. Teachers can help create an environment that encourages children to think of themselves as individuals, rather than editing their choices through a gender ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. What Are Respirators Are Common Today And Household Settings Respirators are defined by Merriam Webster as, a device worn over the mouth and nose to protect the respiratory tract by filtering out dangerous substances (as dusts or fumes) from inhaled air (Merriam Webster). The use of respirators are common today in both industrial and household settings. The earliest known idea for a respiratorcan be traced to Pliny the Elder over 1900 years ago. He suggested the use of wearing animal bladders to protect Roman mine workers from inhaling red oxide of lead (OSHA). In 1854, John Stenhouse developed a respirator using powdered charcoal (see Figure 1) that could be used for protection from gas. Stenhouse s respirator led to the use of activated charcoal, which is still used today (OSHA). There... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are 5 markings required (see figure 2) by NIOSH for approved particulate filtering face piece respirators (NIOSH, 2014); Wet laid process The wet laid process is a modified version of a process that is used to create paper. There are various methods that can be utilized based on the needs of the finished product, production, demand, etc. The particular wet laid process that was utilized in this experiment yielded a mat that was approximately 12 x12 with varying thickness, based on the mass of material used. One mat could be produced approximately every hour, with an additional two hours needed for the drying of each mat. The material is mixed with a dispersal agent, flocculating agent, and a resin. The process involved the mixing of the chemicals, along with the material. The resulting mixture is then added to the suction box and filled with more water. A vacuum is then pulled by opening a valve below the suction box, resulting in a mat of the material on the mesh bottom of the suction box. This project was a continuation of prior research conducted by Meghan Moore. She investigated how the efficiency of using activated carbon fiber compared to traditional filtering face piece respirators for nanoparticle aerosols. Through social interaction, children begin to acquire skills that are valued by their culture (Berk, 2007).Chomsky s theory seeks to explain how children acquire language so quickly. Chomsky asserts that children are born with innate linguistic abilities that are triggered by experience (Universal Grammar 2006). Application to Learning/EducationPiaget s theory can be applied to learning to help educators develop age appropriate learning environments. This theory is also useful in the development of curriculum and assessment. Vygotsky s theory is pertinent to successful teaching. Children come to school with a wide range of abilities. It is the teachers responsibility to identify the zone of proximal distance and utilize scaffolding to bring each student to where they need to be developmentally and academically. Understanding that each child has a different frame of reference due to cultural differences is essential to ensuring that teachers are successful in supporting their students growth (Grace, 2017).This theory helps us understand learning because it explains how children development their language at such a high rate. It is also helpful because it lets educators know that challenging students above their level of knowledge is the best way to support students growth. Theory: Mechanisms of ChangeTo progress from one stage to the next, an individual must successfully experience each stage. As children explore their environments they are actively developing higher levels of thinking. In order for this theory to be successful, adults must have extensive knowledge on what is expected of children at each stage of development. A teacher must know what level of knowledge ... What Are The Disadvantages Of Concrete In 2005, H Azamirad et al published a paper A criticism of Self Compacting Concrete which talks about the problems in using SCC such as segregation and roles of different materials which affect it. The construction process becomes more productive which is evident by the fact that the truck has to wait for less time for unloading of SCC and can go early thus improving the productivity. Arguments from design are arguments concerning God or some type of creator s existence based on the ideas of order or purpose in universe. Hume takes on the approach of arguing against the argument of design, while Paley argues for it. Although Hume and Paley both provide very strong arguments, a conclusion will be drawn at the end to distinguish which philosophiser holds a stronger position. For example, he makes a comparison between the universe to a watch, and God to watchmaker. Watches are made by watchmaker with prior experience with it, but we never truly experience it. This meaning that we ourselves are incapable of such craftsmanship and things that exhibits design has a designer and Paley claims that therefore the universe it must be the work of God (Paley, 1802, 197). His second argument for design he makes a comparison between machines and humans saying that both are equally complex and it was built with a purpose in mind. If changes are made to the watch such as taking away an internal component that makes it runs, or the minute or hour hand, its purpose would suddenly change and it would no longer be a watch. In his third argument about arguing from mind to design, he states that using the mind as a representation is only a small part of universe (Paley, 1802, 197). For example, a watch must have had a watchmaker because such a complex idea and mechanism could not have just come from nature. A creator with prior knowledge of the watch must have created it. Therefore, the universe must have had a creator. This creator was God. Both of these forms of social control work towards achieving the same goal: discouraging violations of society s accepted behaviors, or social deviance, and punishing those who do. Informal social control is a form of social control used casually to enforce norms (Schaefer 149). Informal social control is not enforced with rules or laws. When Elisa offers the Tinker her chrysanthemums, she was also offering herself because she saw herself as one with her flowers. When the tinker tosses her flowers on the road this mimics the way he rejects her and the way society has rejected women. The flowers, just like women, are seen as merely decorations, not something that can be daring. The chrysanthemums like women are golden, but golden only in regards to looks, nothing more. When Elisa tells the Tinker she can fix pots and would love to live the life that he had, he says It ain t the right kind of a life for a woman. Women are supposed to be housewives and mothers. Even though Elisa wants a more thrilling life, she follows in the footsteps of a traditional housewife. She laid out her husband s clothes and ran his bath water because she knows that is her place, even if she disagrees with it. The Salinas tie themselves to the theme because they limit the potential of Elisa s life just as society does. The valley keeps Elisa within the confinement of her quaint life. When Worlds Collide Essay In the film When Worlds Collide , the answer to the question How did the American Indigenous populations impact Spain (and vice versa)? was focused on the changes in wealth, class systems, and the Spanish conquistadors intentions. The first topic covered in the film is how today s America and today s world are heavily influenced by the culture, heritage, and history of the Mestizo race and their Spanish counterparts. The video then explains that the Mestizo race came into existence after the Spaniards had children with the Natives of the New World . For instance, in the case of Jordan Davis, the stand your ground defense was abused by Dunn. Why, because he shot in the car of a young teen because he thought he saw a gun, even though no harm caused. Dunn in this case could have avoided the altercation by ignoring the young teen music in staying in his car. Since Dunn knew the stand your ground law, he knew that he could get away with the crime. From quasars to brown dwarf stars, there are many wonders that the universe holds for the human race if we decide to leap into the exploration of the universe. Some may believe that reaching for the stars is too costly. However, the exploration of space is within our grasp, and by increasing NASAs funding, we are able to reach them. So yes, we should fund our space administration in order for us to reach the stars. Firstly, without sufficient funding, NASA would be politically reliant on Russia due to NASA s need to launch its commercial crew using Russian spaceships on Russian land. According to The Guardian, NASA s budget has dropped from 4.41 percent of the federal budget in 1966, to today s budget of 0.5 percent of the federal budget. As a result of continued decrease in funds, NASA has been severely crippled in its ability to operate; this is why NASA s budget needs to be increased. Without funds nor vehicles to transport its astronauts, NASA must rely on its Russian counterpart in order to fly Americans into space. Due to a rocky relationship with Russia that stems from the Cold War, it is not viable for us to depend our entire space commercial crew program with Russia. That is not right or fair to some people. Something needs to change. Nobody should be worrying about making enough money to support a family of their own, or even have a roof over their head for themselves. Women should not have to work hard labor jobs. The Cohort Component Method For Many State And Local... 3.5 Cohort Component Method One way to Project an area s population is the cohort component method, which is used for many state and local governments. This method offers in depth demographic statistics on why and how the population changes. There are 2 steps in this method. The first is to separate the population into groups of age and sex. The second step is to implement fertility, mortality, and migration rates to each distinct group. There are some things that have to be taken into account for this method before computing anything. The first is that all of the age groups have to be the same in that the years in the cohorts (n) are matching. The second is that the amount of years in the projection intervals (z) should identify with the number of years in the cohorts (n). The last one is that all the rates used in this model have to be altered to show five year projection periods. 3.5.1 The Mortality Component The first thing we do is calculate the female population likely to survive until the year 2005. There are two things that can happen which rely on the age specific survival rate (nsrx).
