Unions and Political Economy
Union Articles Are union locals independent of employers or are they incorporated into the
management of the workplace? Union locals are not incorporated into the management of the
workplace. The most important objective of unions is to protect workers interests against
management s interests. This is because, in most cases, the interests of managers and those of
workers are very much different. Workers are interested in increasing their salaries, in reducing
their volume of work, and in improving workplace conditions. Managers are interested in increasing
profits while reducing investments. Therefore, negotiations must be made between the two parties.
Workers must unite and select certain people that can represent their interests in these negotiations.
This is how unions were developed. However, union locals are not independent of employers. This
is because union members and their leaders are employees of the company in case. The quality of
union members and leaders is added to the quality of employees, but this does not mean that union
locals are independent of employers. The power of employees against their employers can
significantly increase when they are union members. In addition to this, union leaders influence
their members. The politics within unions can take the form of democracies or oligarchies. In most
cases, oligarchies are formed within union members. This is usually the case when a small group of
union members takes control of other members, and

Leadership And Hofstede s Five Dimensions
Leadership and Hofstede s Five Dimensions

ORG300 Applying Leadership Principles

Sheila Landfairmueller
December 7, 2014 Leadership and Hofstede s Five Dimensions In my experience, working in a team
environment not only means working together collaboratively, but also means being sensitive to
cultural differences and outlooks within the team. Dr. Geert Hofstede, a Dutch social phycologist,
devised a way to recognize these cultural differences in five distinct dimensions (Hofstede s
Cultural Dimensions, n.d.). This essay will discuss these five dimensions and how they relate to
leadership, as well as presenting arguments on which combination of these dimensions makes the

(Geert Hofstede, n.d.). A high score in this dimensionrepresents a society that accepts an unequal
distribution of power, and those employees will accept their place in this hierarchical system more
readily than those societies with a low score (Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions, n.d.).
Related to leadership. Power Distance relates to leadership in how employees view their
leadership structure (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). In a high scoring PD culture, a clear social
status of the leader is very important, so that employees can show proper respect (de Mooij
Hofstede, 2010). Low Power Distance scores indicate less tolerance of unequal distribution of
power, and in turn employees will not put as much stock in the social status of their leader, but
how accessible that leader is for collaboration (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010).
Individualism (IDV) Individualism (IDV) is the second dimension of the Hofstede model, and
represents whether the culture is of an individualist mindset, or collectivist mindset (Geert
Hofstede, n.d.). Cultures with a high score in Individualism demonstrate a lack of interpersonal
connection with each other, and a lack of sharing of responsibility beyond family and friends.
(Geert Hofstede, n.d.). The positive from an individualist mindset is the self reliance and enjoyment
of individual challenges that can contribute positively to the whole (Geert Hofstede, n.d.). Cultures

My Identity Essay
My Identity What is my identity? I think my identity at the moment is Mexican, 15 years old, a
student, and more. I am still trying to figure out more things of my identity at the moment. For
right now these are some of my identity and things that mean a lot to me. As I said before I am
mexican. Most of my family was born and raised in Sinaloa, Mexico. They were born in a ranch
called La Quebrada de Los Sandovales . Last year I got to go there for the first time. It looks
really old but the river is so beautiful. I loved how the people there knew each other. Since I was
born my mom made me believe in the virgen de guadalupe. She is the mother of Jesus Christ.
Mostly every year On December 12 my family and me go to church to celebrate her. They bring
music to sing to her. It is always beautiful. On this day we also celebrate my birthday. I am so
grateful to be born on this day. As I was saying in the second paragraph, since my parents are
mexican they taught me spanish. Being bilingual for me is so important because I get to help
others. At school there are times are a lot of times I make new friends just by translating things
for them. I am glad I am latina because I know that it will help me in the future some way. There
are some things I like doing with others which are movies and sports. I have always liked
watching movies. I don t really mind what kind of movie it is. I like fantasy movies the best or
non fiction because it is mostly of the time it is filled with

My Participation in the ASB to Raise School Spirit at...
Magenta, turquoise, and auburn glimmered in the ceiling of the refurbished gymnasium as
hundreds of students engulfed the area for the Homecoming dance.
For the preceding months, I had spent numerous hours quarreling with members of the ASB
Executive Council, trying to formulate a plan to diminish the apathy that pervaded our school. The
student morale was at an all time low, and the administration had lost confidence in the ability of
ASB to successfully conduct school events.? As ASB President, I knew that the week of
Homecoming needed to be the pivotal experience that would electrify and regenerate the declining
spirit of Fallbrook High School.

Through cheering voices, the homecoming king and queen were crowned. Pride filled my heart as
I engaged in and conducted this successful event. The homecoming dance was another challenge to
rectify prior sagging attendance. To rectify the situation, ASB established two sites of activities for
the students that necessitated two gyms, one for the dance and the other for the myriad of activities
and food that entertained these eager students. As I stood in the gym with its glittering and
shimmering draperies cascading above the dancing students, I knew my ASB goals had been
achieved by this opulent event. We now earned the respect of our administration and energized our
student body, and made a substantial profit. Clearly, the students at Fallbrook High had lost their
lethargy and regained their commitment to the school.
This experience truly defined who I became and who I am now as a leader. I learned to
incorporate important problem solving skills by working to unify the executive council and the
school administration. Bringing together diverse groups of people to engage in meaningful
dialogue to solve complicated problems taught me valuable people skills. Organizing and executing
the dynamic week of
Homecoming taught me the value of setting high goals and coordinating a multitude of people in
order to accomplish them. These experiences created a new career goal, that of business lawyer. I

Story Of An Hour Foreshadowing
Foreshadow and irony in The Story of an Hour
The short story The Story of an Hour , written by Kate Chopin, is a brilliant piece of writing that
incorporates many different literary elements. In the story, Mrs. Mallard is told that her husband
has died within a train crash. She falls into a spontaneous depression where she weeps
uncontrollably. She then realizes that she will be happy in the time to come and cheers up. Her
husband Brently Mallard then walks into the house and Mrs. Mallard has a heart attack and dies. In
the short story The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin, the literary elements foreshadowing and irony
are used effectively to augment the story.
The author uses the literary element foreshadowing to forewarn the reader of

Advertisement and Vice Product

Vice Product and Advertisement When is the last time you go to order a burger in fast food
shop? And recently have you ever went to a convenient store and purchased a pack of cigarette?
Nowadays advertisement of fast food, tobacco and alcohol product are catchy in magazines,
newspapers, TV commercials or bus stop stations and it seems these products have become part of
our daily lives. Fast food, tobacco and alcohol products are advertised as our trusted friends and fast
food, tobacco and alcohol companies are targeting not only adults but also teenagers and children to

What would young people think about this advertisement? To most of the teenagers there are
plenty of things that they are restricted to know about when they are very young. Many young
people are very eager or curious to explore new stuff like sex or even smoking and drinking.
Tobacco and alcohol companies are now even focusing 18 to 25 year old markets by promoting
events at bars and sponsoring rock and blues concerts. Every year alcohol companies spend
$5.7billions on commercials concentrated in sports programs to make their products part of the
fun in the matches. Such advertisement strategies by fast food, tobacco and alcohol companies
may seem not a big deal to us, however it would be not wise for us to ignore the potential impacts
by such products as they are already influencing our life little by little. Too much fast food not only
has brought harm to young people s health but also distorted their universal values by misleading
them that everything are granted when their parents promise to buy them fast food after they
constantly nag or beg their parents. For cigarette and alcohols, even though these products are for
adults only, we should not underestimate the potential harm to teenagers. More and more
teenagers may become pro longed smokers and drinkers and eventually some of them may end up
giving up their future by abandoning their study or jobs. In worst case scenario there may result in
family dispute and violence. It would be very sad that

Essay on European Nationalism Case Study---Catalan
European Nationalism Case Study Catalan During the development of Europe, Nationalism played
an important role. Initially, in the 19th century, a wave of nationalism swept the whole continent of
Europe from romantic nationalism to a variety of European countries .Subsequently, there were
some new countries in the different ways to initialize their movement on nationalism, such as the
Romantic exaltation of feeling and identity and the Liberal requirement that a legitimate state be
based on a people rather than, for example, a dynasty, God, or imperial domination. (Paul Halsall,
1998). Since then, the concept of nationalism ascended to the historical stage. In this essay, the
main research will be focused on the Catalan... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually, in the early 20th century, as a result of promotion to the movement by some clandestine
political leaders, the first modern political party in Catalonia, Lliga Regionalista, was founded
.Later, it formed an alliance with other Catalanist forces later, grouped in the so called Solidaritat
Catalana, and won the elections with the regionalist program that Enric Prat de la Riba had
formulated in his manifesto La nacionalitat Catalana (1906). (Daniele, 1997). Over all, essentially,
this movement tremendously promoted the autonomy and independency for Catalonia. In
conclusion, Catalan Nationalist movement is regarded as a movement of nationalism in nations
without states. Crucial to the development of nationalism in nations without states is the existence
and position occupied by the potential elite (Guibernau, 2000) .During the whole Catalanism
movement and development of Catalonia, it is obviously that intellectuals play an essential role in
provoking this progress, especially in the maintenance of the Catalan language and culture. Initially,
in the result of long year repression by Catalans, there was a wide gap between intellectual elites
and the masses, which threatened the survival of the Catalan language and culture but gradually
through three main phenomena, which are the Nova Canco, the Assembly of Catalonia and the
proliferation of solidarity actions , this individual elite movement into a mass

Graffiti is writing or drawings that have been scribbled,...
Graffiti is writing or drawings that have been scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly on a wall or
other surface, often in a public place.Graffiti ranges from simple written words to larger wall
paintings, and it has existed since ancient times, with examples going back to Ancient Egypt,
Ancient Greece, and the Roman Empire. Graffitiis a worldwide situation that has a never ending
debate to it, is it art or vandalism? To be honest I think graffiti is a form of art because it is a way
to express peoples feelings, it can give out good messages for everyone to see, and in my opinion
these kids are getting no credit for the talent they have because people have this vision in their head

There are kids out there living on the streets that just want to express what they are feeling, they
love it and want to share it but the only place they feel like doing that is on the streets, for
everyone to see and where they grew up. d my opinion there s kids out there who have talent
better than some artists for that matter and are these kids are not being recognized for it
because people have this vision in their heads that graffiti is a crime. Instead of being
recognised and paid for their work they are getting arrested. Although In my opinion i believe
graffiti is a form of art, it is attractive to the eye and it has a meaning to it. Graffiti is a form of
self expression and, I think that self expression is a form of art. Some artists paint on canvas
while others paint on buildings, either way it is still someone s creativity at work. There is much
worse going on in the world that people should be worrying about more than graffiti, but yes,
technically it is vandalism, but it doesn t harm anyone in any way.
The main con about graffiti is that it can open the door to other crimes such as burglary and assault
. Another negative point about graffiti is that it is often used for gangs to mark their territory. When
another gang or random person covers up the old graffiti with their own, it can start tention between
each other, which would obviously turn

The Child Of The Wild Child
Susan Wiley, or most commonly known as Genie the Wild Child was born on the 18th of April
1957. She was the fourth child of Clark and Irene Wiley and was one of two children that survived
childhood. Her parents were married in 1944 Clark was 20 years his wife s senior and their
marriage was riddled with domestic violence. Their first two children were both suspiciously killed
before their first birthday. It was reported that Clark Wiley extremely disliked children and was
very mentally unstable. The third of the Wiley children John lived with Clarks mother Pearl, when
she was killed in a hit and run accident Clark held his son responsible which only added to his
fragile mental health.
The final child of the couple was Genie. At a doctor s appointment in late 1958 when Genie was
20 months old the doctor diagnosed her with mild retardation. However, this claim has been
debated. Nevertheless, Genie s sadistic father kept her in extreme isolation locked away in an
upstairs bedroom. The window was covered in aluminium foil and Genie was tightly restrained
to a potty chair in near darkness every day. At night she slept in a tattered sleeping bag tied down
in a cot that was enclosed with chicken wire. Although she would often be left on the potty chair
overnight. She was malnourished and Clark forbid his son and wife to speak to Genie. If she was
to make any sound she was beaten with a wooden plank, and was allegedly sexually abused also.

How To Be A Welder
I am talking about welding and welding there is some equipment that you need to weld. A
welder has safety rules that they need to follow. Welding is mostly welding two or more piece
together or weld like a bar to another piece of metal. I am going to talk about cutter or cutting.
Cutting is that you use a torch and your cut a piece of melt in half or where ever you want. You use
oxygen, arc, and plasma. They work on cutting like trains, cars, and other big objects. Some operate
and monitor cutting machines are similar to those who used by the weldingmachine operators.

Many of the manufacturers have two or three eight hour or twelve hour shifts. Some places you
work in small stations and you are just welding a something on or welding things together. Then
some welders go outdoors and weld cars, planes, trains, and etc. but sometimes when they weld
those kind of thing you sometimes have to get into a small opening to weld that one part or several.
Then I am going to talk about education and training for welding. If you want to be a welder you
have to have a high school diploma and have good grades. Some places have on the job training
where the person wants this one job and they train them on that one job or if you are not good at
that they will find something that you can do. For example Lendals have on the job training. If
the job you want does not have on the job training you can go to like SCC college and get welding
training there. I would go to Scc milford and i would go for 2 years and every thing will cost

Analysis Of Alexandre Dumas s The Count Of Monte Cristo
The events in one s life greatly impacts the acquired disposition that one will possess. In Alexandre
Dumas novel, The Count of Monte Cristo, an innocent man by the name of Edmond Dantes is
found guilty of treason during the time of Napoleon. He is then sent to the ChГўteau d If, a state
prison, where he will reside for the next fourteen years. There he meets the Abbe Faria, an aged
priest who, by information of Dantes jailer, is supposedly insane. He asks to be taken under the
wing of the Abbe and in doing so, he is provided with a knowledge like no other. Upon escaping the
ChГўteau d If, he inherits the Faria s wealth and dedicates his life to destroying the lives of those
who had framed him. Edmond Dantes personal character transforms for the worse as the novel
furthers and he loses leniency, gains wisdom and love, and finds understanding. Dantes becomes
absorbed in carrying out his revenge against those who wronged him that his clemency begins to
fade. It is not until after the suicide of Fernand Mondego, nor is it when the sanity of Villefort
has been depleted, does he realize the actions he has committed. Monte Cristo turned pale at the
frightful sight. Realizing that he has passed beyond the bounds of vengeance, he felt he could
no longer say, God is for and with me (Dumas 567). After viewing the lifeless body of Baron
Danglar s son, he finally becomes conscious of all the tragedy and disaster he has caused. He loses

Personality is defined as the unique way in which each individual thinks, acts, and feels throughout
life (Ciccarelli, 2014). Numerous individuals are curious in regards to their actions and how their
mind works, thus leading companies to create personality tests, in order to provide individuals with
some perspective on their personality. While individuals can take personality tests for leisure,
personality tests are often utilized in situations such as job interviews, diagnosing mental disorders,
and educational purposes. Two popular personality tests are the Keirsey Temperament Sorter and

Artisans tend to be fun loving, optimistic, realistic, bold, spontaneous, and troubleshooting leaders.
While the Keirsey website provides detailed, lengthy descriptions of each temperament, some
individuals may have characteristics which fit into two temperaments. For instance, I have always
been independent, nearly since birth. I have always loathed asking for assistance when performing
a demanding task, feeling I can manage best when working without assistance. However, I am
optimistic when unfortunate events take place, and I have a strong background in the arts. With
that said, can personality realistically be given one category, or do others have characteristics which
fit more than one temperament? Moreover, what is personality testing designed to measure? The
Myers Briggs Type Indicator, used in the Keirsey Temperament Sorter, bases personality on four
dimensions: extraversion or introversion, sensing or intuition, thinking or feeling, and judging or
perceiving (Ford Martin, 2015). Extroverts are those more focused on others and the outside world,
while introverts tend to keep to themselves. The dimension of sensing or intuition measures
whether the individual perceives the world more efficiently using the five senses, or if they tend to
lean on their intuition (Ciccarelli, 2014). The dimension of thinking or feeling measures whether
individuals prefer to

Comparing Poems Dover Beach And The Ruined Maid
Each poem that we have read is completely different from the last, but they each do not have the
same meaning. I decided to compare the themes of the poems Dover Beach and The Ruined
Maid. Dover Beach is about a couple looking at the water on the English Channel and what the
sound waves bring the speaker to think about. The Ruined Maid is about two old friends, who
used to work together, running into each other and speaking on how one of them has moved up in
life, as some would say. These two poems may not be alike, but they both share the same theme of
man and the nature world. I wanted to first go into detail about the three poems, starting with Dover
Beach. Dover Beach was written by the well known poet Matthew Arnold, who... Show more

Stanza two doesn t begin in the room, but in Ancient Greece. After listening to the sound of the
pebbles washing up the shore and returning to the water, the speaker thinks back to ancient times
in Greece. He imagines Sophocles, who is known as a tragedian and known for his playwrights.
Sophocles, according to the speaker, heard the same sound from the pebbles while he stood on
the Aegean Sea, which is a part of the Mediterranean. Lines 17 and 18 of stanza two are that into
his mind the turbid ebb and flow of human misery; we. the definition of turbid is cloudy, opaque,
even muddy, which means that into his mind cloudiness moved in and out. The speaker ends
stanza two by returning back to his present day on the English Channel. Find also in the sound a
thought, hearing it you this distant northern sea were the last two lines meaning that the speaker
and his compliant discovered thoughts at the sound of waves from the sea of the English Channel.
Stanza three is started with the statement that the sea of faith was also full like the ocean s tide
along the English Channel. the speaker compares the sea of faith lays to a beautiful belt using the
words furled and bright girdle.

The Temptation Of The Sirens In Homer s Odyssey
The poem The Sirens and the episode containing sirens in The Odyssey contain similarities that
expose the theme of temptation. For instance, the sirens claim that their green isle is a place
where one could rest forevermore in the poem, and they call to Odysseus as well, telling him how
no one had passed the sirens without listening to them, and how they always received a great treat.
Both of these examples show the sirens deception, how they are trying to fool men into thinking of
a beautiful island with flowers and green grass when reality presents a manifest of death and evil,
with each sirensitting atop a mound of bones.
This helps prove the archetype of a temptress as well, because the sirens deceive the men into
coming to their death by promising relief from strain and sweat they experience as they work. In
the poem they especially seem to draw focus to the hard work of the men, which can help expose
their exhaustion for them to take advantage of, as they claim here thou may rest from aching oar,
and tells them to turn thy curved prow ashore . This helps to persuade the men further, and the
addition of this temptation helps further prove the point of the sirens playing the role of a temptress.

While the amount of money is low on a percentage basis, it is a bigger financial sacrifice because
many providers operate individually and correlate each cash outflow as money out of their pocket
making them much more cautious than the larger treatment providers. The key to profitability is
not whether customers want the product, but in the consistency of the product. Practitioners need
to feel comfortable with managements ability to attract users. They will spend moneywith any

should be no further infusion of cash needed. The second resource is data. We will need to

The Great Migration
Without The Great Migration, or the migration of African Americans from 1915 to 1970 from the
south to the north, the north would have suffered economically (Wilkerson 8). Specifically, without
the Great Migration, the north would have faced extensive job shortages, that would have
eventually led to economic turmoil. One cause of The Great Migration was the need for southern
African Americans to take industrial jobs in the north. Furthermore, during times of war, many men
were removed from the workforce, meaning that the north needed additional workers to fill the now
vacated spots. (The Great) The north needed the southern African Americans in order to fill these
slots, and without them, the north s economy would have suffered... Show more content on

During World War I, 4,734,991 people were involved, during World War II 16,112,566 were

were involved. (America s) These created a situation where large amounts of people were removed
from their jobs. These jobs needed to be filled, along with the myriad of other jobs that were created
during the migration. Southern African Americans seemed to be a solution, as they were trying to
get out of their current situations, and the north needed workers. At times, northern companies sent
recruiters to draw more southern African American to work in the north. (The Great)The north
needed people to take these jobs, and southern African Americans fit the bill.
While some of these jobs created by wars and by industrialization were taken by immigrants, this
group could not have accounted and taken all the jobs that needed to be filled in the north. First,
immigrants were not being accepted at an extremely high rate during the Great Migration. Right

Okay. Will sighed, burying his hands back into the jacket. It would be cold down in the subway,

Discipline, Success, And The Navy Core Values
Discipline, Success, And The Navy Core Values: A Look Into Personal Responsibility And
Following Orders (*) Thorough the course of Naval history from its violent but humble
beginnings in the revolutionary war era, to the now modern age Navy we know today, three
major core values have developed and made their way as a staple in the teachings of each and
every sailor: Honor, Courage, and Commitment. These Core Values, instilled from the beginning
of our career in boot camp, are the three guiding qualities that every sailor strives to impersonate
in their everyday life, and it is these principles that we rely on to lead the way. In this paper we

All of this in turn creates much more strain, not just to the individual but to the others around
them. Prior to situations like this unfolding, Personal Responsibility, must be maintained, and
good discipline continuously sharpened to ensure success. As sailors we are always held, and
should always hold ourselves, to the highest standard and in keeping with the Navy Core Values
both in our work and our lives as a whole to assure success in every facet possible. (*) The Navy
Core Value Charter is a document maintained by the Secretary of the Navy that holds a detailing
of the three major attributes and their implications that every sailor must hold themselves to. As
a sailor we are bound by our Honor: To be honest in all accounts, to hold ourselves to the highest
ethical standards, and to take responsibility for all actions we take, both inside and outside of the
Navy. We are defined by our Courage: To comply with the requirements of our profession,
overcoming all obstacles while holding ourselves to the highest degree of character possible, to
act in such a way that brings credit to the Navy and is in the best interest of the nation regardless

Structural Violence And Its Effects On Society
Structural violence has become a frequently used instrument in the word of systemic oppression.
This type of oppression and unfair limitations of civil, criminal and basic human rights can cause
suffering and death to many innocent lives. Sociologist Johan Galtung was the one who
developed this theory of structural violence. Indicated in one of his articles Violence, Peace, and
Peace Research , structural violence is the systematic constraint on human potential due to
economic and political structures (Galtung, 1969, p.177). Galtung is telling the readers that
certain groups of people are systematically being limited to resources in society either directly or
indirectly. Structural violence has been described as the most basic of fundamental form of
violence, as it is expressive of the conditions of society that reproduce mass violations of
personhood twenty four hours a day, seven days a week (Barak, 2003, p.113). This demonstrates
that structural violence is an on going way to steal ones opportunities in society. Racism, sexism,
classism and ageism are all examples of structural violence. It can be visible and invisible and can
cause disadvantages for people who are considered poor or a minority within society. Structural
violence is extremely important as it could lead to poverty, starvation, sicknesses and deaths.
Although structural violence is a powerful and common method of ferocity, there are agents of
change who locally and globally contribute to the

Summary Of Aspirin
Synthesis and Characterization of Aspirin (Acetylsalicylic Acid) Summary
The purpose of the Aspirin lab is to synthesis the Acetylsalicylic acid which is known as aspirin and
calculate the limiting, theoretical, and the melting point. In the second step, the Theoretical yield
came out to be salicylic acid seeing it was the smallest out of the phosphoric and acetic anhydride.
Experimental melting point The literature melting point was 138 140 Celsius, when it was
prepared in lab, it started melting at 131 and turned into liquid at 138 Celsius.
Introduction
Acetylsalicylic Acid is an ester of salicylic acid. It is known to be a white, crystalline substance
which is used for treating pain. Aspirin is known to treat pain and fever when prescribe by a doctor
or bought over the counter. It is used to reduced heart attack, arthritis, etc. Therefore, aspirin is an
essential part of the human metabolism.
Aspirin which comes in many forms and by many more names is is used by many people to
numb if not entirely remove pain in their muscles, joints, bones and even sooth headaches.
Smaller doses can be bought over the counter from local pharmacies but these usually never
exceed 200 mg although prescription doses can range from 400 mg to 800 mg. Taking more than
a recommended dose can lead many health problems; some of the more common are indigestion
and stomach aches as well as bleeding and bruising more easily than normal and worst case
scenario being death. Like many other

Vittorio De Sica s Bicycle Thieves
Vittorio de Sica s movie Bicycle Thieves is a global classic, that depicts post war poverty in
Rome where there is no empathy for one another. The movie belongs to the Italian neorealist genre
with the basic idea of creating compelling movies out of a comparatively insignificant incident like
that of a bicycle robbery which could have happened to any common man in Italy. As one may
agree, movie is simple, realistic and conveys a dramatic theme. Post war Italy has a significant
impact on its economy and people causing severe poverty, unemployment and housing problems
that are clearly depicted in the movie. These crisis in the city form the real in the neo realistic
movie. As Brennan points out in Global Neorealism: The Transnational History of a FilmStyle ,
postwar Italian cinema displays two contradictory poles: one emphasized critical merit and aesthetic
qualities while the other relied on visual suggestions and visual intimations of the content like in

In Bicycle Thieves: A Re Reading , Tomasula says that the ideology in Bicycle Thieves presents
itself as Life rather than as a system of concepts. With minimal resources, the movie is shot and
managed to convey the plight of common man oppressed by circumstances beyond their control.
Italian neorealism is depicted in the movie by setting the film amongst the poor and working class,
filming it on real locations and using non professional actors. They showed ordinary lives twisted
by events and social forces beyond their control. (Leff and Simmons, 2001, Pg. 145) This does not
imply that all neorealist movies demonstrate these characteristics; it is a strong convention of
cinematic realism and a motivation for some of the filmmakers especially Vittorio de

Benjamin Franklin s Use Of The Telegraph
Before the discovery of the telegraph, communication was difficult between long distances. Upon
discovery the telegraph, a machine transmitted messages to and from different places. Once the
telegraph became popular, the telegraph was used for fast communication . There were two men
majorly involved in the creation of the telegraph. The man that created the telegraph created morse
code, which was involved in many other future forms of technology. The technology that evolved
from the telegraph has been used throughout history. The telegraph ideas are used in modern day

The Banking Concept Of Education Summary
The banking concept of education is a short essay written by Paulo Freire, which describes his
views on inadequate education. The banking concept of education and the problem posing
education method are two teaching methods Freire uses to explain the differences between what is
inadequate teaching and what is not. The banking concept of educationis a method of teaching
education to students as if they are depositories and the teacher is the depositor. Students only
receive the information from the teacher to memorize and report. The problem posing education
method involves a combination of the teacher teaching the student and the student teaching the
teacher through dialogue. This makes the classroom environment more interactive. Freire... Show

When referring to the banking concept of education, Freire wrote Knowledge is a gift bestowed by
those who consider themselves knowledgeable upon those whom they consider to know nothing .
This means the teacher knows everything and the student knows nothing. For the problem posing
education method, Freire wrote that it affirms men and women as being in the process of becoming
as unfinished, uncompleted beings in and with likewise unfinished reality. The unfinished character
of reality necessitates that education be an ongoing activity . Freire urges to move away the
traditional education system and use alternative education methods like the problem posing method
so students are encouraged to be critical thinkers in not only an educational setting but in life in

Holocaust Essay On The Holocaust
The intense documentary Genocide reveals the suffering and pain that Jewish people went through.
It also examines how the holocaust took place and what was brutally done to millions of innocent
lives during this horrific time in our history.
The implications of anti semitism on Canada leading up to WWII and the Holocaust was that Jews
needed Canada s help and Canada said no. They followed the stereotypes of what Jews were
perceived as and took in only 5000 Jewish refugees. Based on stereotypes, they took in the group
of people that were the most beneficial to them and Jews were at the bottom of that list with
Chinese and japanese people. There was anti semitism in Germany because of Hitler. While
many do not understand the reason for his hatred against Jews he was the reason that caused
anti semitism which was unnecessary. If Hitler had not created numerous laws discriminating
against Jews, the Holocaust wouldn t have happened. He believed that Jews needed to be
removed and were a problem. The world reacted to Hitler by believing what he said. Hitler was
powerful and he was able to brainwash people. The world slowly listened to what was being told
and agreed. If they weren t the group of people that Hitler targeted they didn t have to worry about
anything and it was easier to just follow the crowd.
The long term effects of the Holocaust was that it left thousands of people in mental and physical
pain while killing millions of innocent people. Since, so many

The Middle Schoolers
]When I was in the second grade my school bus broke down on the way home and we had to call
for a bus from the middle school to finish dropping us off. I sat huddled in the torn green back
seats with five boys from my class listening intently as a sixth grader explained to us some of the
games the middle schoolers played at recess. It s called FMK. Fuck, Marry, Kill. You have to
choose which person you would fuck, marry, or kill. Some of the boys giggled but some stayed
quiet, not understanding what he meant. The older boy, Josh, relished in the moment, thinking
it funny that he knew so much more than us and giddy to be the one to corrupt our young
minds. He said, Okay I ll give an example so you understand. Gerard you have to choose, FMK
Johnny, Kevin, or Veronica. You d have to choose to fuck Veronica and marry and kill Kevin or
Johnny because you can t fuck a boy if you re a boy. Moms and dads fuck, it s how they make
the babies. If there were more girls here, you d have to choose which one you d rather make a
baby with. Which one is prettier. The game made me uncomfortable, though at seven years old I
could not identify why. I figured that Josh was right. It did, after all, make sense. Moms and
dads did make babies, and so, I went along with the game. Sitting in the back of that bus with five
of my male friends as he told them I filled the, fuck, choice was the first time I ever had to

Japan s Change Of Modernity And Democracy
There are many things that contributed to Japan s change to modernity and democracy whether it
was between the political parties or if it was between their cultural system and the people s rights.
Before Japan changed to a more modern and democratic society it was a feudal government
structure based on Confucius views which was during the Tokugawa period. During the Tokugawa
period there was a separation between the social classes which was categorized in four groups the
samurai, peasants, artisans, and merchants. The two classes that had the most power were the
samurai and the peasants. The samurai had the most power because they created a moral example
and the peasants came in second into the social class since they produced food which was
essential to survival of the people. The last two classes the artisans and the merchants. Although the
merchants were last in the social class some were very wealthy and even owned their own
monopolies, but since they were in the bottom of the class the laws prevented them to come higher
into power. Although Japan was a feudal government and was more traditional the Japanese still
developed some modernized urban influences like expanding their trading of commodities, and
their advancement in their science studies. Though the Japanese had some of these modernized
views the Tokugawa period soon came to an end due to the lack of government control by the
shogun which created the four classes to fall apart. The differences between

How The Quantity Of Carbohydrate Could Determine The...
The quantity of carbohydrate could determine the overall scale of process. Increase in the process
scale could enhance total production, but it would also increase the cost of facility and operation.
High concentration of carbohydrate does not promise high production of CPC in the fermentation
step. A. chrysogenum is proper for the CPC production, but A. chrysogenum grows slowly in
comparison to other microorganisms. The fermentation time could be reduced by fermentation
engineering. The process of conversion to 7 ACA from CPC is also important to increase the
productivity of 7 ACA. The economics of P ACA process for 7 ACA from waste carbohydrate
showed the possibility of industrialization. Then, various factors of the process, governing the
efficiency of process, were investigated to maximize the economics.
3.2. Factorial design of process and evaluation of economics
Full factorial analysis was performed to investigate the major factors concerned with the
economics. The major key factors were listed, and the values of factors were coded. The center
points of coded values were set as follows: feedstock (carbohydrates) quantity, 2,407.0 kg per
batch; carbohydrates, 16.0% (w/v); CPC yield 12.7%; fermentation time, 120 h; and 7 ACA yield,
87.0%. The maximum fermentation vessel volume was designed to be 35,000 L, accommodating
all the values of variance for factorial experimental factors. The FFD of five factors for three levels
was designed and is equal to 243 (= 35)

Charles Darwin to Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
How does Stevenson present duality in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? Stevenson presents duality in
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in various ways. One of these variations of the duality is among the
minor characters, for example Utterson and Enfield. Their similarity is that they are both
respectable Victorian gentlemen, that both like to discuss stories but they feel it is gossiping
about their friend and say let us make a bargain to never refer to this again , this shows that they
feel that they have over stepped the mark and have stumbled upon something that is better left

Jekyll). But the novel was also partly based on a play Deacon Brodia (1880) which is about a
publicly respectable gentleman but privately a thief and rakehell. The novel had been
considered by some people, mainly the higher ranked and important persons of the 19th
centaury, as a criticism of Victorian double morality meaning they felt it was presenting a false
image of what went on in London. They may have also have felt that it was encouraging other
people to do things considered wrong like. This shows duality between the novel and the
behaviour in London during the 19th centaury. The novel also creates a lot of tension as you
progress through the text. It rises every time something is discovered in the mystery of Hyde
which strengthens it s the detective/mystery genre. At the beginning all is calm but as Hyde
comes to life, the tension rises. A really damnable man this shows us how much Hyde is hated,
but this also shows us where the tension begins to rise. The tension is near enough sky high
when the quotes something wrong with his appearance and He must be deformed are used to
make the audience worry and wonder what will prevail from the mystery of Hyde. The weather
is a ladder for the tension, described as a wild, cold, seasonable night of March ... pale moon this
was used when Utterson searched for Hyde, showing us a mysterious side of London. Although it
doesn t show much duality, it does play a part in making the novel s mystery

Kant And Kant s Moral Ethics
According to Kant, We have these absolute duties to ourselves and these duties to oneself become
the supreme principle of all duties. Therefore, these supreme self duties are the reason why moral
ethics exist, and without our duties to oneself there would be no other duties, nor would we, as a
species, survive at all. However, these self regarding duties can be very contradicting, but can help
us understand the bigger picture of the categorical imperative.
Kant believes that we must act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will
that it should become a universal law. (Grounding, 421) This one and only categorical imperative is
the starting principle of all other imperatives of duty. In relation to these imperatives, duties to
others are derived from our own duties to ourselves. Initially, Kant introduces both perfect and
imperfect duties to oneself and to others, which ultimately follow the categorical imperative.
First the perfect duty to oneself is to not commit suicide. This duty questions the principle of self
love and how it can be held as a universal law of nature, but this is where the contradiction begins.
In this example, the principle of self love cannot be a universal law because in this case this law
would destroy life by means of the very same feeling that acts so as to stimulate the furtherance of
life, and hence there could be no existence as a system of nature. (Grounding, 422) Therefore, the
opposite of this maxim of retaining

the similar ideals as realismin portraying a situation in a more negative and detached tone

purposes of banking organisations will be met; the banks will achieve lasting cost effective goals
and keep dependable monetary and administrative reporting system. Such a structure can also help
to make sure that the banks will act in accordance with rules and regulations as well as policies,
strategies and processes and reduce the possibility of unforeseen losses or damages to the bank s
status. The most commonly accepted meaning of internal control is that of Committee of

control, monetary or otherwise, well known by the organisation in order to keep the business of the
company in an organised, proficient way and make sure the organisation obeys the management
function specifically laid down for the benefits of the organisations.
To know if this is actually followed the use of the Nigerian banking sector would be used to

The Duration Of Unemployment As Provided By The Bureau Of...
The duration of unemployment as provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics was an average of
28.1 weeks in June. The trend seem to be improving overall because the average duration of
unemployment for May was 30.7 weeks, and a year ago it was 31.4 weeks (BLS 2015). The
difficulty of finding a job seems to go up after the first month after being unemployed. The
people who are unemployed for 15 to 26 weeks have the least trouble finding jobs (BLS 2015).
After 27 weeks, more people have difficulty finding jobs (BLS 2015). A possible explanation is that
unemployed people look like worse candidates the longer they are unemployed, so they have a
harder time to find work as time goes on. Initially, people may also be discouraged from being laid

Many organizations that lend money use this rate as a guideline for the interest rates they charge
customers (Streissguth 2011). To determine the prime rate, the Wall Street Journal first carries
out surveys of 30 large banks to determine the consensus prime rate (Streissguth 2011). The
prime rate is also determined in part by the federal funds rate, which is decided by the Federal
Open Market Committee (FOMC), so the prime rate normally changes when the federal funds rate
changes (Streissguth 2011). Generally, lenders will keep their total interest rates above the prime
rate (Streissguth 2011). According to Patrick Gillespie, the FOMC is likely to raise the federal
funds rate in September. He believes they are putting off raising rates due to low inflationalong
with the rise of the dollar (Gillespie 2015).
Consumer Debt Consumer debt can be a good thing because it allows consumers to build credit

thing when consumers run out of money to make payments on their loans. Overall, consumer debt
is trending upwards. Economist Aimee Picchi says new credit card debt will rise 5 percent in

growth in student loans and in auto loans . Household debt has also

Theme Of Crooks In Of Mice And Men
John Steinbeck wrote Of Mice and Men during the time of the Great Depression: a time of
financial decline in the US. During the Great Depression, 25% of the working population lost their
jobs, so lots of people were poor. While white men were suffering from the Great Depression,
colored people suffered more. Although the character Crooks is not a central character in the text,
his troubles play an important part in the plot. The time of the Great Depressionwas difficult for
many people, especially for the colored for whom laws were in place to segregate them from the
mainstream white culture. There are several moments in the text where Crooks is shown
powerless: when Candy introduced Crooks to George, when Lennie visits Crooks, and finally,...

In Of Mice and Men the law takes a big part in the story since Crooks is separated from the men.
For example he sleeps alone and it was a rare occasion when Crooks was allowed to stay with men
on Christmas Day. However one person in particular could use this law in her own favor, Curley
s Wife. When Crooks was making a stand and was rebelling against Curley s Wife she said Well,
you keep your place then, Nigger. I could get you strung up on a tree so easy it ain t even funny.
Crooks had reduced himself to nothing. There was no personality, no ego nothing to arouse
either like or dislike. He said, Yes, ma am, and his voice was toneless. (Steinbeck 80) He responded
like this not only because she was the boss s son s wife, but also because Crooks was an outsider
since he was black. There was law that was kind of in favor of the white population, which
segregated the colored population from the leaving them at the edge of

The Theory Of Convivencia Between Christians And Muslims
Is the theory of convivencia between Christians, Jews and Muslims in Iberia convincing in the first
four centuries after 711?
4243296
Word Count: 1904
The theory of convivencia between Christians, Jews and Muslims is considered to be the period in
Medieval Spain in which the three Abrahamic religions were able to coexist and live together
peacefully. The notion of convivencia not only refers to the overall tolerance of Christians and
Jews to be able to practice their religion in Al Andalus, it also incorporates the idea of members of
these three faiths sharing a common culture, a language and working towards advancing
civilisation through poetry, literature and science. Historians who have studied this issue are
largely divided on whether this time period really was as harmonious as it is commonly
described. Historians such as Bat Ye or highlight the lack of convivencia by placing emphasis on
how leaders of Al Andalus would enforce rules such as granting non Muslims with the status of
dhimmi, essentially making them second class citizens which by today s standards would
undoubtedly lead to the theory of convivencia being somewhat unpersuasive. However, relative to
this era, Islamic Iberia was the apex of religious tolerance, immensely surpassing the level of
tolerance in surrounding nations and empires. Montgomery Watt goes as far to say that under
Muslim rule, Jews and Christians were considered as People of the Book who were to be a

Failed Mother-Child Relationships in Margaret Atwood’s...
Oryx and Crake offers plentiful examples of failed mother child relationships.Jimmy s complicated
relationship with his mother is developed most thoroughly. Herdistance, depression, and distraction
stem from the work she does. Like Offred s motherin The Handmaid s Tale, she stays busy
working. Unlike Offred s mother(whose careeris never specified), Jimmy s mother works for a large
bio technology corporation. Herprofessional status as a microbiologist, unthinkable in the
patriarchal culture of Gilead, should make a progressive, positive statement about women s
achievement of equality. Her work ultimately threatens her sanity, though. As a result, she abandons
her onlychild.

Jimmy neverfinds out the reasons behind that decision. Unlike many women, she quits
workingwhen her son goes to school. She continues to do her own research at home on
hercomputer, though the specific kind of work remains unstated. Jimmy observes changesin her
when she works: she seemed to be enjoying herself. She was friendly then, too.She was like a real
mother and he was like a real child (30). Her mercurial moodsperplex her son; he describes her as
often depressed and sullen. He recounts hisefforts to please her, which often met with annoyance.
On good days, Jimmy found hera bit frightening, a bit too much like an image of a perfect mother.
She seems like anexample of Chodorow and Contratto s modern woman, attempting to be the
idealmother while working and taking care of her husband (79). Jimmy quickly realizes thathe must
bend to his mother s moods and learns to find ways of getting her attention.More than anything, he
seeks to get any reaction out of her, even if it is negative.Jimmy s common adolescent attention
getting behavior underscores his mother sneglectful parenting style, eliciting readers sympathy for
Jimmy.
Jimmy mourns his mother throughout the rest of the novel. At first, his feelingsconfuse him
because his mother was not typically nurturing or supportive. He alsomisses his pet, so both

What Is The Death Penalty In Texas
Death Penalty in Texas Having to execute prisoners in Texas is a critical issue in our criminal
justice system. The executions are carried out on capital murderers. It all started back in the 1800

the state of Texas ordered that all executions were to be carried out to Walls Unit, Huntsville for
The Electric Chair. Ever since 1982, Texas was the first U.S state to execute with the Lethal
Injection. The executions in Texas are carried out in various ways, but the primary way of
executing inmates now is by lethal injection. More than eight inmates have been put to death in

Sam Patch Essay
Jonathan Kroger
History 2111
April 22, 2010
Sam Patch s Leap into the Great Divide
Some things can be done as well as others , the famous line of Sam Patch became a well known
saying amongst U.S. citizens especially Jeffersonian and Jacksonian democrats (Johnson, 163).
Sam Patch was many things in his lifetime from a famous falls jumper to a destitute mill worker to
also the first American born boss spinner. He however was viewed different amongst social groups
in America. The common folk and Jeffersonian democrats viewed Patch as a good man and
somewhat of a folk hero, while the middle class and Hamiltonians viewed him as a drunkard and a
sign of the decay of society in America. He was a product of the harsh system and ... Show more

On the other hand; the middle class who was most often associated with Hamiltonian views
viewed Sam Patch as a simple drunkard and a symbol of the decay and immoralities of American
society. Journalists during his time wrote Sam Patch like many other great geniuses is a greater
friend to the bottle than the bottle is to him (Johnson, 115). The middle class viewed themselves
as respectables and the wage earning class was inferior to them, which is evident in the
celebration ceremonies in Paterson on the Fourth of July. Celebrations started off with a parade,
banquet, and fireworks where all Patersonians were welcome to participate, but gradually
transitioned to a more exclusive celebration of a large group of respectable Young Men where
toasts weren t based on patriotism anymore yet based on entrepreneurial progress (Johnson, 65).
Sam Patch s celebrity and life not only showed growing social and political differences, but it
showed the increasing gap that was growing between the wage earning and middle class as a result
of the market revolution.
The wage earning class was the debtors, debtors who owed money and had to work to make a
living for creditors, most of whom made up what would be known as the middle class. The
tradition of fathers passing their land on down to their sons was slowly dying such as with Mayo
Greenleaf Patch and his sons. Mayo Patch s life was riddled with owing debts to the middle

The Role Of Special Schools For Students With Children...
Inclusion in school is built upon removing barriers to participation access and achievement for all
pupils (Grimes, 2009) it is only effective if it has been well resourced and has targeted funding,
early identification implemented covering the children s needs and intervening as early as possible,
the correct training for teachers and support staff needs to be implemented to improve awareness
and understanding, it is also important to have adequate and appropriate support, whilst
recognising the role of special schools and how they support inclusion and attaching expertise whilst
working in partnership with parents and professionals. Some of the greatest barriers associated with
inclusion in education are negative attitudes. As with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Children s Plan (2007) is another policy to have been put in place to ensure that the needs of
all children are met whilst in education fairly.
Strategies for special education inclusion should allow for special needs children to benefit from
the learning environment. Children with or without special needs succeed in an environment
that enables them to develop by being able to be to solve problems, as well as being able to
express their feelings as well as being socially adjusted however children with special needs are
often negotiating the most basic of these levels. They re learning to engage with other people, to be
persistent and are opening and closing many circles of communication with other children and
adults. Children who have not got any special needs may still be developing their abilities to be
imaginative and creative. Inclusion brings these groups together in beneficial ways.
Children with autistic spectrum disorder will find it difficult to interact with others, but are able to
communicate when they want something; they tend not to use any form of interaction to show
people things or to be sociable. It is important to remember that communication and interaction do
not have to involve the use of language and speech. Many children with an Autistic Spectrum
Disorder are delayed in their use of language and tend to shy away from using any

The Pros And Cons Of Poverty In Russia
Who: The current population in Russia is 144.3 million people. Russia has about 23.4 million
people living in poverty. This number is up by 7.9 million from 2013 when the people living in
poverty was 15.5 million. It should be noted that one U.S. dollar is equal to about 57.6005 rubles (
Putin, in pre election year, pledges to erase spiralling poverty, 2017).
What:
The average wage for Russians is 39,253 rubles or $681.47 a month. Unfortunately, around 13.5 %
live on less than 10,000 rubles or $173.61 a month. In the year 2014 many
Russians fell into poverty (Putin, in pre election year, pledges to erase spiralling poverty , 2017).

hard since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Where: Sadly, the poverty levels are widespread all over Russia. The smaller cities and villages
were hit harder than the bigger cities. An example is the city of Irkutsk. The poverty rate has
steadily grown over the years. As of January 2017, about 21% of the population lives in poverty
compared to 13.4% of the country s population. The smaller cities are hit harder with poverty
than major cities because the major cities generally have factories or other major sources of
employment. In the smaller cities, many citizens make considerably less than the citizens in
major cities. For example, a teacher may only make 16,500 rubles or $286.46 a month in a small
city, but if she moves to Moscow she could easily up to 32,000 rubles or $780 a month.
When:
While poverty has always been an issue in Russia the poverty levels started rising rapidly in
2014. In 2015 the ruble crashed against the dollar and sent inflation up into the double digits
(Kottasova, 2017). The government and banks are hopeful that in 2017 Russia will return to a
slow growth. In 2016 the economy was expected to shrink by 1.2% and again many people are
hopeful that Russia will regrow the economy in 2017 and beyond. Putin has said that the economy
will not be fixed overnight and will depend on harnessing digital technology and making structural
changes to how the county is ran.
Why:
It is important to know why Russia s poverty levels matter to geography because while countries
near Russia could be

  • 2. Unions and Political Economy Union Articles Are union locals independent of employers or are they incorporated into the management of the workplace? Union locals are not incorporated into the management of the workplace. The most important objective of unions is to protect workers interests against management s interests. This is because, in most cases, the interests of managers and those of workers are very much different. Workers are interested in increasing their salaries, in reducing their volume of work, and in improving workplace conditions. Managers are interested in increasing profits while reducing investments. Therefore, negotiations must be made between the two parties. Workers must unite and select certain people that can represent their interests in these negotiations. This is how unions were developed. However, union locals are not independent of employers. This is because union members and their leaders are employees of the company in case. The quality of union members and leaders is added to the quality of employees, but this does not mean that union locals are independent of employers. The power of employees against their employers can significantly increase when they are union members. In addition to this, union leaders influence their members. The politics within unions can take the form of democracies or oligarchies. In most cases, oligarchies are formed within union members. Dr. Geert Hofstede, a Dutch social phycologist, devised a way to recognize these cultural differences in five distinct dimensions (Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions, n.d.). A high score in this dimensionrepresents a society that accepts an unequal distribution of power, and those employees will accept their place in this hierarchical system more readily than those societies with a low score (Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions, n.d.). Related to leadership. Power Distance relates to leadership in how employees view their leadership structure (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). In a high scoring PD culture, a clear social status of the leader is very important, so that employees can show proper respect (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). Low Power Distance scores indicate less tolerance of unequal distribution of power, and in turn employees will not put as much stock in the social status of their leader, but how accessible that leader is for collaboration (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). Individualism (IDV) Individualism (IDV) is the second dimension of the Hofstede model, and represents whether the culture is of an individualist mindset, or collectivist mindset (Geert Hofstede, n.d.). Cultures with a high score in Individualism demonstrate a lack of interpersonal connection with each other, and a lack of sharing of responsibility beyond family and friends. (Geert Hofstede, n.d.). • 18. The Temptation Of The Sirens In Homer s Odyssey The poem The Sirens and the episode containing sirens in The Odyssey contain similarities that expose the theme of temptation. For instance, the sirens claim that their green isle is a place where one could rest forevermore in the poem, and they call to Odysseus as well, telling him how no one had passed the sirens without listening to them, and how they always received a great treat. Both of these examples show the sirens deception, how they are trying to fool men into thinking of a beautiful island with flowers and green grass when reality presents a manifest of death and evil, with each sirensitting atop a mound of bones. This helps prove the archetype of a temptress as well, because the sirens deceive the men into coming to their death by promising relief from strain and sweat they experience as they work. In the poem they especially seem to draw focus to the hard work of the men, which can help expose their exhaustion for them to take advantage of, as they claim here thou may rest from aching oar, and tells them to turn thy curved prow ashore . Furthermore, during times of war, many men were removed from the workforce, meaning that the north needed additional workers to fill the now vacated spots. • 23. Structural Violence And Its Effects On Society Structural violence has become a frequently used instrument in the word of systemic oppression. This type of oppression and unfair limitations of civil, criminal and basic human rights can cause suffering and death to many innocent lives. Sociologist Johan Galtung was the one who developed this theory of structural violence. Indicated in one of his articles Violence, Peace, and Peace Research , structural violence is the systematic constraint on human potential due to economic and political structures (Galtung, 1969, p.177). Galtung is telling the readers that certain groups of people are systematically being limited to resources in society either directly or indirectly. Structural violence has been described as the most basic of fundamental form of violence, as it is expressive of the conditions of society that reproduce mass violations of personhood twenty four hours a day, seven days a week (Barak, 2003, p.113). This demonstrates that structural violence is an on going way to steal ones opportunities in society. Racism, sexism, classism and ageism are all examples of structural violence. It can be visible and invisible and can cause disadvantages for people who are considered poor or a minority within society. Structural violence is extremely important as it could lead to poverty, starvation, sicknesses and deaths. Although structural violence is a powerful and common method of ferocity, there are agents of change who locally and globally contribute to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Acetylsalicylic Acid is an ester of salicylic acid. It is known to be a white, crystalline substance which is used for treating pain. Aspirin is known to treat pain and fever when prescribe by a doctor or bought over the counter. It is used to reduced heart attack, arthritis, etc. Therefore, aspirin is an essential part of the human metabolism. Aspirin which comes in many forms and by many more names is is used by many people to numb if not entirely remove pain in their muscles, joints, bones and even sooth headaches. Smaller doses can be bought over the counter from local pharmacies but these usually never exceed 200 mg although prescription doses can range from 400 mg to 800 mg. The movie belongs to the Italian neorealist genre with the basic idea of creating compelling movies out of a comparatively insignificant incident like that of a bicycle robbery which could have happened to any common man in Italy. As one may agree, movie is simple, realistic and conveys a dramatic theme. Post war Italy has a significant impact on its economy and people causing severe poverty, unemployment and housing problems that are clearly depicted in the movie. The banking concept of education and the problem posing education method are two teaching methods Freire uses to explain the differences between what is inadequate teaching and what is not. The banking concept of educationis a method of teaching education to students as if they are depositories and the teacher is the depositor. Students only receive the information from the teacher to memorize and report. It also examines how the holocaust took place and what was brutally done to millions of innocent lives during this horrific time in our history. The implications of anti semitism on Canada leading up to WWII and the Holocaust was that Jews needed Canada s help and Canada said no. They followed the stereotypes of what Jews were perceived as and took in only 5000 Jewish refugees. Based on stereotypes, they took in the group of people that were the most beneficial to them and Jews were at the bottom of that list with Chinese and japanese people. There was anti semitism in Germany because of Hitler. While many do not understand the reason for his hatred against Jews he was the reason that caused anti semitism which was unnecessary. If Hitler had not created numerous laws discriminating against Jews, the Holocaust wouldn t have happened. He believed that Jews needed to be removed and were a problem. • 32. Japan s Change Of Modernity And Democracy There are many things that contributed to Japan s change to modernity and democracy whether it was between the political parties or if it was between their cultural system and the people s rights. Before Japan changed to a more modern and democratic society it was a feudal government structure based on Confucius views which was during the Tokugawa period. During the Tokugawa period there was a separation between the social classes which was categorized in four groups the samurai, peasants, artisans, and merchants. The two classes that had the most power were the samurai and the peasants. The samurai had the most power because they created a moral example and the peasants came in second into the social class since they produced food which was essential to survival of the people. The last two classes the artisans and the merchants. Although the merchants were last in the social class some were very wealthy and even owned their own monopolies, but since they were in the bottom of the class the laws prevented them to come higher into power. Although Japan was a feudal government and was more traditional the Japanese still developed some modernized urban influences like expanding their trading of commodities, and their advancement in their science studies. Though the Japanese had some of these modernized views the Tokugawa period soon came to an end due to the lack of government control by the shogun which created the four classes to fall apart. Increase in the process scale could enhance total production, but it would also increase the cost of facility and operation. High concentration of carbohydrate does not promise high production of CPC in the fermentation step. A. chrysogenum is proper for the CPC production, but A. chrysogenum grows slowly in comparison to other microorganisms. The fermentation time could be reduced by fermentation engineering. The process of conversion to 7 ACA from CPC is also important to increase the productivity of 7 ACA. But the novel was also partly based on a play Deacon Brodia (1880) which is about a publicly respectable gentleman but privately a thief and rakehell. They may have also have felt that it was encouraging other people to do things considered wrong like. This shows duality between the novel and the behaviour in London during the 19th centaury. • 35. Kant And Kant s Moral Ethics According to Kant, We have these absolute duties to ourselves and these duties to oneself become the supreme principle of all duties. Therefore, these supreme self duties are the reason why moral ethics exist, and without our duties to oneself there would be no other duties, nor would we, as a species, survive at all. However, these self regarding duties can be very contradicting, but can help us understand the bigger picture of the categorical imperative. Kant believes that we must act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law. (Grounding, 421) This one and only categorical imperative is the starting principle of all other imperatives of duty. In relation to these imperatives, duties to others are derived from our own duties to ourselves. Initially, Kant introduces both perfect and imperfect duties to oneself and to others, which ultimately follow the categorical imperative. First the perfect duty to oneself is to not commit suicide. This duty questions the principle of self love and how it can be held as a universal law of nature, but this is where the contradiction begins. In this example, the principle of self love cannot be a universal law because in this case this law would destroy life by means of the very same feeling that acts so as to stimulate the furtherance of life, and hence there could be no existence as a system of nature. Strong internal controls can help to certify that aims and purposes of banking organisations will be met; the banks will achieve lasting cost effective goals and keep dependable monetary and administrative reporting system. The trend seem to be improving overall because the average duration of unemployment for May was 30.7 weeks, and a year ago it was 31.4 weeks (BLS 2015). The difficulty of finding a job seems to go up after the first month after being unemployed. The people who are unemployed for 15 to 26 weeks have the least trouble finding jobs (BLS 2015). After 27 weeks, more people have difficulty finding jobs (BLS 2015). The prime rate is also determined in part by the federal funds rate, which is decided by the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), so the prime rate normally changes when the federal funds rate changes (Streissguth 2011). Generally, lenders will keep their total interest rates above the prime rate (Streissguth 2011). According to Patrick Gillespie, the FOMC is likely to raise the federal funds rate in September. During the Great Depression, 25% of the working population lost their jobs, so lots of people were poor. While white men were suffering from the Great Depression, colored people suffered more. Although the character Crooks is not a central character in the text, his troubles play an important part in the plot. The time of the Great Depressionwas difficult for many people, especially for the colored for whom laws were in place to segregate them from the mainstream white culture. • 45. The Theory Of Convivencia Between Christians And Muslims Is the theory of convivencia between Christians, Jews and Muslims in Iberia convincing in the first four centuries after 711? 4243296 Word Count: 1904 The theory of convivencia between Christians, Jews and Muslims is considered to be the period in Medieval Spain in which the three Abrahamic religions were able to coexist and live together peacefully. The notion of convivencia not only refers to the overall tolerance of Christians and Jews to be able to practice their religion in Al Andalus, it also incorporates the idea of members of these three faiths sharing a common culture, a language and working towards advancing civilisation through poetry, literature and science. Historians who have studied this issue are largely divided on whether this time period really was as harmonious as it is commonly described. Historians such as Bat Ye or highlight the lack of convivencia by placing emphasis on how leaders of Al Andalus would enforce rules such as granting non Muslims with the status of dhimmi, essentially making them second class citizens which by today s standards would undoubtedly lead to the theory of convivencia being somewhat unpersuasive. However, relative to this era, Islamic Iberia was the apex of religious tolerance, immensely surpassing the level of tolerance in surrounding nations and empires. Sam Patch Essay Jonathan Kroger History 2111 April 22, 2010 Sam Patch s Leap into the Great Divide Some things can be done as well as others , the famous line of Sam Patch became a well known saying amongst U.S. citizens especially Jeffersonian and Jacksonian democrats (Johnson, 163). Sam Patch was many things in his lifetime from a famous falls jumper to a destitute mill worker to also the first American born boss spinner. He however was viewed different amongst social groups in America. The common folk and Jeffersonian democrats viewed Patch as a good man and somewhat of a folk hero, while the middle class and Hamiltonians viewed him as a drunkard and a sign of the decay of society in America. He was a product of the harsh system and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand; the middle class who was most often associated with Hamiltonian views viewed Sam Patch as a simple drunkard and a symbol of the decay and immoralities of American society. Journalists during his time wrote Sam Patch like many other great geniuses is a greater friend to the bottle than the bottle is to him (Johnson, 115). The middle class viewed themselves as respectables and the wage earning class was inferior to them, which is evident in the celebration ceremonies in Paterson on the Fourth of July. Celebrations started off with a parade, banquet, and fireworks where all Patersonians were welcome to participate, but gradually transitioned to a more exclusive celebration of a large group of respectable Young Men where toasts weren t based on patriotism anymore yet based on entrepreneurial progress (Johnson, 65). Sam Patch s celebrity and life not only showed growing social and political differences, but it showed the increasing gap that was growing between the wage earning and middle class as a result of the market revolution. The wage earning class was the debtors, debtors who owed money and had to work to make a living for creditors, most of whom made up what would be known as the middle class. The tradition of fathers passing their land on down to their sons was slowly dying such as with Mayo Greenleaf Patch and his sons. Mayo Patch s life was riddled with owing debts to the middle ... Children with or without special needs succeed in an environment that enables them to develop by being able to be to solve problems, as well as being able to express their feelings as well as being socially adjusted however children with special needs are often negotiating the most basic of these levels. They re learning to engage with other people, to be persistent and are opening and closing many circles of communication with other children and adults. Children who have not got any special needs may still be developing their abilities to be imaginative and creative. Inclusion brings these groups together in beneficial ways. Where: Sadly, the poverty levels are widespread all over Russia. The smaller cities and villages were hit harder than the bigger cities. An example is the city of Irkutsk. The poverty rate has steadily grown over the years. As of January 2017, about 21% of the population lives in poverty compared to 13.4% of the country s population. The smaller cities are hit harder with poverty than major cities because the major cities generally have factories or other major sources of employment. In the smaller cities, many citizens make considerably less than the citizens in major cities. When: While poverty has always been an issue in Russia the poverty levels started rising rapidly in 2014. In 2015 the ruble crashed against the dollar and sent inflation up into the double digits (Kottasova, 2017). The government and banks are hopeful that in 2017 Russia will return to a slow growth.
