The Catcher Of The Rye, By J. D. Salinger
From the beginning of time, achieving success and greatness has been the ultimate human goal.
Success can be found in many different forms, from ruling a Roman empire to receiving a high grade
on a test. Society s view of success has changed throughout generations, urging people to conform to
society s beliefs in order to fulfill their goals and dreams. The theme of success and fulfillment are
evident in literature and theatre pieces that were written centuries ago, and continue into novels
written in the present. The play Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, and the novel The Catcher
in the Rye, written by J. D. Salinger follow the lives of two protagonists as they are each individually
shaped by society s idea of prosperity. The protagonists of both the novel and the play, Holden and
Macbeth, exhibit similar qualities that allow them to attempt to achieve ultimate greatness and find
success. Both the novel The Catcher in the Rye and the play Macbeth demonstrate the pressure there is
on men to prosper and achieve high rankings in society. This pressure leads to the development of
wrath and mental illness, resulting in the disruption of harmony. Both Holden and Macbeth possess
significant amounts of wrath, causing poor decision making. To add, Macbeth and Holden both
struggle with mental illness, again causing unfavourable outcomes. While the men possess these
similarities, they differ in the outcome of their stories. As Macbeth fails to overcome his wrath and

The Moral Dilemma Of Obedience From Authority And Supervisors
A moral dilemma that I had faced in my life that continue to cloud my judgement even until this is day
is obedience to and how far we will let it reflect on how we let it decide how we live our life. In today
s day and age with the everyone having so many choices on how they can live our lives conflicts with
our moral reasons with what is right or wrong and having to outweigh the values of our conflicts. Its
makes I question authority and test on how far our obedience from authority and supervisors lays
thought us. When we were little most of us were taught that by my parents what was right or wrong
and how by simply having these few characteristics a person can have such as stronger, more
powerful, and intelligent or just have more experience than you that they are always right.
We grow up in today s world thinking that should always question the authority because nothing can
be too good to be true . And that we should have to the ability to reconsider whether or not something
is rational or irrational because if not it can end badly. When I was little I attend catholic school for
most of my childhood education and there we were taught what they say is moral and immoral. Well
when I graduated learned that because a person was gay didn t mean that they were bad or evil but that
they are just like you and I. So with this in mind to make me reevaluate what I found moral or
immoral so my obedience to question if I taught it was wrong. And how they are certain norms

The Role Of The Teaching Assistant
The teaching assistant needs to know roughly how to play the instruments and which ones create
which note, i.e. Kettle drums have all the notes on it so need to be hit in different places to create the
different sounds, and different drums in a drum kit for example create different sounds. They also need
to know the names of the different notes and what they sound like and how they can be strung together
to form a possible tune.
By the teaching assistant having a knowledge in music in general this then allows the class to be
potentially cut into two or more smaller groups depending upon the number of assistants there are.
This means that learning would be more effective as the children are in smaller more manageable
groups and the ratio of teacher/assistant to pupil is better and if a pupil has a question or needs help ...

Teaching a group of seven year olds would require a lot of patience. They are still young and so
therefore may from time to time not want to do what is asked of them as they have been given
something to use/hold that makes a loud noise. Therefore it is important to know the schools policy
and know the rewards and consequences within the policy to effectively promote positive behaviour
and learning. If pupils see that their behaviour is affecting the lesson in the negative way they want,
then that in itself is a reward for a job well done . It is the job of the teaching assistant to praise just as
much as it is the job of the teacher. Praise boosts self esteem which is even more helpful in the pupils
that lack a positive attitude and helps deter them away from making a disruptive

At 10:00 we got on our plane to head to Fort Myers, Florida. The plane ride was long and tiring, and
on the plane I was sitting next to a very nice lady while I was doing my homework.
Do you need to turn on the lights? she asked.
No I m okay, I replied. Thank you though. We went on with the rest of our plane ride. Before landing
our pilot did a little overview of the ocean and Florida, even though we couldn t see, the lights from
Florida looked amazing! When we got off the plane and everyone was tired at 2:00 in the morning and
we got our rental car and headed off to the hotel. Of course we jumped in bed when we got there and
slept until morning.
The first day in Florida was really exciting for me because I ve never been there and it was a first time
experience with Florida. We went to go get breakfast and I saw the lady that was on the plane with me
there! After breakfast we decided to meet up with family that stayed in Florida and we went to some
shops and explored around the city. The weather in Florida was kind of chilly that day so we didn t get
to do much. After that we went to go eat, then went back to the hotel. At the hotel we all decided to go
out to the pool. We put on our swimming suits and headed downstairs to the nice outdoor pool. After a
while we went inside and watched Netflix on our phones while some of us slept. The next day was
kind of a random day. We drove

Criminal Justice? The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. 578 (1): 50
70.
Within social science, as well as pure research, there seems to be a continual and ongoing debate
about qualitative and quantitative research. Some take the view that, All research ultimately has a
qualitative grounding, while others believe There s no such thing as qualitative data. Everything is
either 1 or 0 (Howe, 1988). In actuality, the debate should not be so black and white; both styles of
research have their advantages and disadvantages. At times though, the way one constructs
hypothetical constraints may actually prejudice the intended results or at least provide a framework
from which to form bias. In the hard sciences, scholars tend to agree that randomized experimental
studies have much higher internal validity than nonrandomized studies. This is basic to the overall
scientific method of investigation.
The term scientific method refers to a way of investigation or the acquisition of knowledge through
the testing of a theory or hypothesis, then working through measurements (observation and empirical
notes) to come up with a result, which should prove or disprove the original theory. Thus, the basic
method consists of a) formulating a question or hypothesis, b) designing an experiment or means of
collecting data, c) observation or experimentation, d) analyzing

American Intervention In Iraq
As years pass, Americans are becoming increasingly critical of the American invasion of Iraq
following the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. As a result, many Americans
are apprehensive in supporting another American intervention in a Middle Eastern country during the
middle of an uprising. For years, politicians have echoed the same sentiment: I will not create another
Iraq in the Middle East, however, when faced with the opportunity to do exactly that, it seems the
decision is not so simple. On one hand, a direct intervention would be extremely costly and very might
well be unsuccessful entirely. On the other hand, taking a hands off approach and instead opting to
employ diplomacy and encourage American allies to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jamie Fly, the Former Director for Counterproliferation Strategy at the National Security Council,
argues that the situation in Syria more convincingly warrants American intervention than the situation

program to covertly secure supplies to nuclear weapons, and their harboring of radical groups that
posed a threat to the United States as warrants for American involvement in the Syrian Civil War
(Fly). Fly also argues that the U.S. and its allies should establish protected zones around threatened
cities although he neglects to describe what he means by that and seriously consider arming the

The Most Influential Jazz Artists History And Thee Most...
Louis Armstrong is to be considered one of the most influential jazz artists history and thee most
important figure in jazz history. From the 1920 s all the way through the 1960 s, Armstrong had a very
illustrious career. Armstrong was a composer, instrumentalist, arranger and a singer. Giving him many
ways to have an everlasting legacy in music. He innovated many different styles and excelled in many
different eras of jazz. Armstrong made an abundant of contributions to jazz ranging from new styles of
jazz including a new way of singing, individual soloing, jazz in films and shows, and overall a lasting
legacy. Louis Armstrong was born in the tough environment and city of New Orleans. He had a tough
up bringing and spent a lot of time in Storyville, the prostitute district of New Orleans, where a lot of
early jazz musicians would also play because they would allow jazz musicians to often experiment
and not have to play ordinary jazz. In about 1912 Louis accidentally shoots off a gun, which lands him
in Colored Waifs home for boys from 1912 1915. The home was a military reform school for boys run
by ex cavalry officer, Joseph Jones... it provided Armstrong with a daily routine, regular meals, and
his instruction on the cornet (Anderson). This allowed Armstrong to get better and get classical
training. After this period Louis meets his long life idle Joe King Oliver, which changed his life,

Economic Theory Of Stimulating Aggregate Demand Essay
The United States is better off economically today than it was in 2008 when the Great Recession hit.
The government had to act fast to minimize job losses, stabilize the housing and credit markets, and
get consumers back to work and spending money. The fiscal stimulus programs were effective in
doing just that by lowering unemployment and stabilizing the stock market. There are a few things,
however, that are intriguing.
Based on what we have learned in our economic theory of stimulating aggregate demand through
fiscal stimulus, the side effect is typically inflation (Schiller, 2013). The United States has not seen
inflation like what the economists predicted with the latest inflation rate at 0.2% (Coin News Media
Group, 2015). Despite all of the billions of dollars pumped into the economy, the Fed has been unable
to sustain the desired 2 percent inflation rate, which they believe is indicative of economic growth
(Mason, 2015). And, while the job market appears to be healthy with unemployment hovering around
5.1%, 27.7 percent of the unemployed, or 2.2 million, have been jobless for 27 weeks or more
(Ferreira, 2015). Those who are employed part time because they aren t able to find full time
employment and those who have given up looking for employment, even after their unemployment
benefits have expired, aren t counted in the unemployment numbers (Ferreira, 2015). According to a
survey done by Pricewaterhouse Coopers, an increasing share of employers want to hire but

Cultural Appropriation Is Inevitable Like Globalization
Into
In the summer people wear flower crowns and get excited for the music festivals that come with the
season. Their hair is in braids and they have henna sticker tattoos on them. Tanned, smiling and
holding hands they head towards the festival s entrance. One could say this is the new version of the
Flower Power era from the nineteen sixties and seventies (). However people continue to make the
same mistake as the generation before, people decorate themselves with culturally significant items,
but they know little about it. 88
Cultural appropriation is inevitable like Globalization The cultural exchanges of ideas, beliefs, and
technology, the greater chance of cultural appropriation. This phenomenon is called globalization.
Cultural appropriation is inevitable, but it can be viewed in a positive perspective instead of the
current negative one. Consider the first time blue jeans became popular in American culture, now
across the global people wear blue jeans and some consider it a major part of American culture (). The
piece of clothing is so synonymous with American culture some countries like North Korea, have
banned the item because the country believes its citizens would start supporting American ideals
instead of wearing blue pants. Or the multinational company of Coke A Cola has marketed its product
across the global but many consumers can identify its products as American goods. Items like blue
jeans, dream catchers and henna can carry a lot of

The Effect Of Reaction Time On Cyclohexanone
Results and discussion
4.1. Polymerization mechanism
In base catalyzed aldol condensation of cyclohexanone (A), KOH or NaOH acts as a non nucleophilic
agent. In presence of base, cyclohexanone initially turns to enolate by losing αhydrogen. The formed
enolate then reacts with the carbonyl group of the second molecule and leads to the formation of aldol
intermediate. The polymerization reaction proceeds further by the reaction between the carbonyl
group of third molecule and the activated methylene group of the second molecule. In the present
study, the effect of reaction parameters on conversion of cyclohexanone and the product properties
was extensively analyzed. The most probable dimeric (monomer repeating unit (n) =1) and polymeric

value, and (c) Iodine value of products (reaction conditions: temp. = 110 C, A/K ratio = 0.2).
The result (Table 2) shows that there is no significant change in acid values of the products with
reaction time. The average acid value of the product samples is around 0.29. The analysis shows that
solubility of the products in MTO decreases with the increase of reaction time. The reason for the
gradual decrease in solubility may be due to the increase in average molecular weight of the products
with time. The measured solubility of 20 hrs sample is 65 wt%, whereas the solubility of monomer is
around 92 wt%. The data also shows that viscosity of the products increases with the increase of
reaction time. Both the phenomena (i.e. decrease of solubility and increase of viscosity with time)
clearly indicates that the extent of polymerization reaction increases with reaction time. The average
value of moisture content in the products is 1.82

family and its members. This family is comprised of Willy Loman, a salesman, Linda, Willy s wife
and mother of Biff and Happy, Biff, eldest son of Willy and Linda, and Happy, younger son of Willy
and Linda. Each of the characters in the book all have flaws such as Willy being suicidal, Linda being
an enabler, Biff being lost, and Happy being a liar. These flaws have created an atmosphere where
conflicts will occur time and time again. In fact, the main plot of the literary work revolves around

Professional Dancer Research Paper
What qualities are looked for in a professional dancer? Perhaps some people look for a dancer who is
simply talented. Talent is an important quality in a dancer because if a dancer is unable to set
themselves apart based on their talent, it is impossible for them to become discovered in the industry.
Some people think a dancer has to also be smart and able to apply corrections and memorize
choreography efficiently. Without this, the talent of a dancer is wasted. In order to be a competitor, a
dancer must be close to perfect, which comes with applying corrections given to them by a judge.
Another quality looked for could be the dancer s professionalism, or how well the dancer works with
other dancers. As a dancer, you work with many different dancers and choreographers. A dancer needs
to be able to be professional and friendly while working with others. If a dancer is unable to work with
other dancers, the group dances will fail, and if a dancer is unable to work with a choreographer they
can not efficiently learn the choreography. As Dance Magazine s nominee for Dancer of the Year,
Maddie Ziegler exhibits the following praiseworthy traits: success, personality, and versatility. ...

multiple music videos, and guest starred on multiple television shows, all before they reached the age
of thirteen. Another reason Maddie deserves to win is her personality. She is by far one of the kindest
people, even though she is very successful. She volunteers her time and also is kind to fans and

Dental Terminology Essay
Current Dental Terminology is a code set that is developed and updated by the American Dental
Association (ADA) in order to report the dental services and procedures for reimbursement. Many of
the codes were published by CMS as HCPCS D code in conjunction with ADA however, the
ownership of the CDT codes remained with the ADA. In 2010, ADA ended the distribution with CMS
and took over the CDT codes, which are available for purchase from ADA. The purpose of CDT codes
is to achieve uniformity, consistency, and specificity when reporting on the dental procedures and
being able to provide efficient processing of dental benefits claims. Since 2013, the ADA started
publishing the CDT codes annually. They publish the new codes, revised codes and deleted codes in
each annual edition. The dental professional are required to update these codes to be in compliance
with HIPAA regulations. As a result, the reimbursement to dental professionals is based on the CDT
codes reported in the ADA claim form, therefore, utilizing the new codes will not only maximize
reimbursement but, will also reduce audit liability. Moreover, there are five important sections in the

The Endangered Species Act Essay
The Endangered Species Act
Introduction:
Long term survival of a species depends on its ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions
(Murphy, 1994). Genetic diversity within a species, which has taken 3.5 billion years to evolve, makes
adaptations to these changing environments possible. Unfortunately, the rate of extinction of
genetically diverse organisms is rapidly increasing, thus reducing this needed biodiversity, largely due
to the human impacts of development and expansion. What was an average of one extinction per year
before is now one extinction per hour and extinct species numbers are expected to reach
approximately one million by the year 2000 (WWW site, Bio 65). As a result governmental and
societal action must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The penalties involved in violation of these laws include fines up to 100,000 dollars and one year in
prison. Organizational violations include 200,000 dollar fines and confiscation of all equipment used
(WWW site, ESA). Since its induction, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) has entered 967 species on
its list and has 421 more labeled as possible candidates and 4,000 others as (species of concern
(WWW site, What is..). Over the years, only 22 species have been removed with a third of them
becoming extinct regardless, a third recovering fully, and a third put on mistakably (WWW site, What
is..). In terms of the taking aspect of the law is where the controversy begins. The Takings Clause of
the fifth amendment states, nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just
compensation (Pendley, 1995). This means that any endangered species on an owner s private land
must be compensated for. Regrettably, the ESA of 1973 fell short of its high expectations and has
completely failed up to this point from a multitude of discovered flaws in the authorization of the law
from the start.
Problems with the ESA of 1973:
The problems which have arisen since 1973 seem to be endless. First of all, the time needed to put an
endangered species on the list is much too long. By the time most species get on the list, they are on
the brink of extinction. Second, private

text message with effect like fireworks popping all over your screen. Also if you re an impatient
person it lets you know when someone has read or is typing, but if your texting a person who has an
android it will not let you know. In many ways iphone has been better than android. Lets just talk
about the camera quality that iphone has, which comes with different ways like portrait, is when it
blurs out the background and gives the person or whatever is being taking the picture the many
interest. Lets not forget taking live pictures, are pictures that you have to press on to see a show clip of
what happen at that moment.

Staphylococcus Aureus ( Mrsa ) Essay
Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterium that is responsible for several
infections in humans like pneumonia, bloodstream infection, etc. Methicillin resistance in
Staphylococcus aureus was first identified among hospitalized patients in 1960s. MRSA is any strain
of Staphylococcus aureus developed through the process of natural selection and resistance to beta
lactam antibiotics like penicillins (methicillin, dicloxacillin, nafcillin, oxacillin, etc.) and the
cephalosporins. It is of huge concern in hospitals, prisons, and nursing homes, where the patients are
at high risk due to open wounds, invasive devices, and weakened immune systems. MRSA infections
that occur in hospitals are known as Hospital Associated MRSA (HA MRSA). In a hospital where
patients are getting infected with MRSA, which had been detected from their nose secretions and
some from skin infections, it is very important to take immediate preventive and control measures to
fight against MRSA. Various strategies can be applied to prevent and control MRSA as well as to treat
MRSA associates infection in order to completely eradicate MRSA threat from the hospital. Various
measures that can be taken to tackle such situation are: 1. Screening of all patients to identify all
MRSA infected patients and MRSA carriers. 2. Implementing various prevention strategies. 3.
Decolonization therapy for all MRSA carriers. 4. Treatment of Infected patients. 1. Screening of all

* Callable not until year 7. * Warrants Issuance of non detachable warrants provides no advantage to
company, but provides an additional return to the holders given $1/share exercise price. In fact,
dilution of existing shareholder ownership interest occurs if warrants are issued, equating to a
minimum 15% share for the holder. This number could increase to 25% based on the potential to issue
an additional 35,000 shares, which is dependent upon average NOI calculation for 1997 and 1998.
Based on income statement projections, the average NOI for 1997 and 1998 would allow for an
additional 25,325 shares to be issued equating to additional dilution of 7.5% (exh. 5). In total, it is
expected that Este s interest would decrease from 58% to 45.3%. * Covenants minimum EBIT

shows value of company at $22.3MM (assumes 6% stable growth and 8.92% WACC) which equates
to $96/share vs. implied value of $9.6MM based on $9/share offer price. Additionally, at that price,
$7.5MM in proceeds equates to 833,333 shares and 78.15% of company. If a higher offer price were
received, the existing shareholders could limit the dilution of their interests. Lastly,

Ice Hockey History
Hockey is a sport that s been around for almost 200 years now, it s a competitive sport that s played all
across our world, and it has plenty of history behind it. Anyways, if you ask anyone in Canada about
it, they would most likely be able to tell you a few things about it. When people think of Canada,
Hockey can often come to mind. The sport developed and grew in Canada, created by students
(soldiers) of King College School, to a small village in Nova Scotia, named Windsor. The game used
to be a field game, called Hurley, and soon enough they decided to take it to the ice, where it earned
the name Ice Hurley . Over time, the game finally earned a new name, as we know it as of today, Ice
Hockey. At this time, it was really beginning to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

its own identity , which is completely true. Canada and the rest of North America is well known for

people know, it s a very difficult sport to play, and if you play it consider it a talent, even a gift, its
known as one of the hardest games to play in the world. The sport can also help with many traits, such
as reflexes, stamina, hand eye coordination and more. Otherwise, many people across the world have
tons of passion for the sport, lots of citizens all across the world put their life into it, it s their JOB, and
it s well worth it, because the people who do that make millions a year, which is crazy... especially just
for playing a game, but in front of 20,000 paying fans of course. Some parts of our world revolve
around the game, without it, there would be an enormous missing piece. So that can explain how it has
affected our world, also because it s been around for about 200 years now, it really has a huge history

Modern America and the Diminishing Individual
In his essay Modern America and the Diminishing Individual , Peter Cooper talks about how today
there is an absence of genuine compassion for one another. Copper opens his essay by stating The
impudence, indifference, self centeredness, evidenced by some Americans are symptomatic of
contemporary national malaise (70). Which basically means that our attitude for self is like a sickness
in our society today. He goes on to say Individual significance in society commonly diminishes in
direct proportion to the number of people (70). He expresses that the reason for this being is that

Today you would be lucky to even know your neighbors names. The term love thy neighbor as you
love yourself is not really relevant anymore. Why? You see in today s society we only feel the need to
associate ourselves with people that can potentially help us. We are so focused on what we can get out
of people that we no longer value each other.
We have become so self indulgent that it has this have become the norm, so much that for us we are
unaware of when we are doing it. Recently my Uncle called me and asked me how I was doing, as we
further ventured into our conversation, he asked me if I could ask my coach to let him rent the gym.
Although he called me, he really did not want to know how I was he wanted me to do a favor for him.
He only asked how I was doing because it was the polite thing to do. Oddly enough you would think
that the one group of people who are supposed to honestly care for you would be your family. Even
your family is not exempt from this behavior. They find ways to use you for things rather than to see
how you are doing, and getting to know you. Often times we are victims of this, we do things like this
unconsciously, and we use people rather than building a relationship with them. We neglect what we
are actually doing and we continue to operate with selfish motives and are blind to the fact that we are
actually doing it.

The American Constitution has as its precedent, the event when Thomas Jefferson wrote most of the

colonies in North America had decided to become independent from England to start a new country;
where their own ideals and precepts were held to make and American Union. The U.S. Constitution

Some of the most important ones contain similitude: For example; the first amendment states that the
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise
thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to
assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Guatemala s Constitution, in it s
35th and 36th articles, state analogous ideology, affirming the liberty of expression and religion
amongst the inhabitants of the territory; with the exception that the rites or exercise of these liberties
does not imply a public order disruption or the diminish of a third party s inherent rights and liberties.
The religious liberty has been avowed in several prior Constitutions, but was never really applied, due
to the predominance of Roman Catholic principles (inherited from the conquering Spaniards centuries
ago). Another principle is that a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,
the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. The military, in Guatemala are in
charge of the defense of the national territory; but the tenancy of defense weapons is permitted as a
constitutional principle as well. This liberty was subsequently limited by a special law that regulated
the matter, stating that individuals must be at least 25 years old to carry

Essay On Personal Statement At Fordham University
I am a non terminating senior at Fordham University pursuing both a physics, and a joint mathematics
and computer science degree. I ve chosen to apply to contribute to Cornell s CNF and PARADIM
REU program because of my interest in the intersection of experimental condensed matter physics and
nanotechnology. Since May of 2016, I have been doing an independent study on quantum computation
with the assistance of two advisors. Among learning about the many facets of quantum computation,
my obligations also include developing computer programs using both python and C++ to simulate
quantum computational phenomena, seeking contemporary advancements in this field, and presenting
short talks on quantum computational phenomena. In particular, I had ... Show more content on

For these reasons, the CNF and PARADIM REU program would be greatly advantageous for my
future. Earlier in my collegiate career, I was burdened with a selection of personal complications that
derailed my academic performance. However, persevering through these hindrances taught me an
indispensable lesson on how to encounter adversity and overcome hardships while juggling everyday
duties. My success in my more recent coursework should express my ability to work efficaciously.
After learning about the responsibilities of this REU program, I ve found that these responsibilities
and my set of skills in computer programming, mathematical reasoning, and physical knowledge are
quite compatible. Although I am familiar with other programming languages, more relevantly, I am
proficient in C++ up to a data structures and algorithms level, and I have taken a course on scientific
computation in python. I also interned as a software engineer for Skanatek AB this past summer.
Alongside my knowledge of quantum physics from my coursework and my independent study, I will
also be taking a solid state physics course in the upcoming spring semester. Also in the spring
semester, I will be taking a course in experimental techniques in physics and engineering, which will
prepare me for experimental and laboratory work. This experimental physics course has a large
component focused on written and oral communication skills

Erruption In Pompeii
Introduction:
A significant event that occurred in Ancient Rome is the eruption of Mt Vesuvius which destroyed the
towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, killing around 2000 people. The Mt Vesuvius eruption was a
Plinian eruption sending volcanic ash hurdling towards the sky sending out deadly gases which was
the main causes of the death of the people of Pompeii and Herculaneum. It left the towns covered and
hidden for many years until archaeologist discovered these sites. This was significant because it
opened a great deal of insight into how the Romans went about their day, how they decorated their
homes, what materials they used to decorate their homes, building structures and much more
information that proved to be very helpful in our understanding of how Romans lived and how they
went about their everyday lives. Now came the dust, though still thinly. I look back: a dense cloud
looms behind us, following us like a flood poured across the land.
Background of the Eruption: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people of Pompeii were suddenly rocked by a Plinan Eruption from Mt. Vesuvius. The volcano
spewed plumes of ash up to 45 kilo metres into the stratosphere. This caused many problems for the
unsuspecting people in Pompeii. The plumes of ash were not the source of destruction for the people
of Pompeii but also lahars (mud flows) and pyroclastic flows. With the pyroclastic flow made up of
hot ash, pumice, rock fragments and deadly gases, moving across the ground it was impossible for
anyone to survive even if they hadn t already died from the pumice shooting out of the volcano s
mouth. Some of the cloud was white, in other parts there were dark patches of dirt and

Zebra Mussels In The Environment Essay
Zebra mussels have the potential to cause a decline in ecosystem goods, and the benefits that
reservoirs provide. Irrigation reservoirs artificially change the environment. This would cause larger
amounts of distress in the community if the reservoirs did not provide benefits such as recreation,
including fishing, as well as provide wildlife habitat (Adams Lee, 2010). Zebra mussels can render
these reservoirs unusable for recreation because their sharp shells can cut the feet of users. Zebra
mussels also clear the water due to their filter feeders, which can result in a decrease or change in fish
populations, as well outcompete native mussel species. This clearing of the water can also result in
algal blooms (Vanderploeg, et al., 2001). It would not be beneficial to irrigate land with water that has
algal blooms because toxic bacteria may cause the algal blooms. This would be particularly
detrimental when growing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the threat of zebra mussels is real and should not be taken lightly. The Alberta irrigation
system contains over 8000 km of conveyance works, including pipelines and canals, and more than
fifty storage reservoirs, all of which could become infected should zebra mussels enter the province (
Irrigation in Alberta, 2015). The danger to agriculture and irrigation is very significant because this
species is able to reproduce so quickly. If zebra mussels were to become established in Alberta, the
monetary and time cost would be very high to manage the problem for the province, Irrigation
Districts, as well as the farmers. Many of Southern Alberta s popular boating lakes serve as irrigation
reservoirs ( Protecting Alberta s Irrigation, 2014). Boats infected with zebra mussels are one way that
they could be brought into the province. Fortunately, Alberta has a management plan to prevent zebra
mussels from being brought in, and is enacting

Thing at age 28, Fitzgerald published fourteen short stories, one play, two
collections of short stories, and two novels. His first novel, This Side of

Fitzgerald s maternal grandfather also represented high asperations.
He immigrated from Ireland during the pre Civil War era and became a wealthy,
wholesale grocer in St. Paul.
Although situated economically in an upper middle class, Fitzgerald developed
bonds to upper class friends during his childhood, and aspired to experience the
kinds of opportunties they enjoyed. The quest to achieve seems to have dominated
Fitzgerald since early adolescence. Like many of his friends who attended prep
schools in the East, Fitzgerald attended a Catholic prep school in New Jersey
between1911 13 where he met Father Sigourney Fay. Fay encouraged his ambitions
for personal distinction and achievement. After the death of his maternal
grandmother, his family s sizeable inheritance allowed Fitzgerald to attend
Princeton University the following year. He reportedly remarked at this time to
his friend, Edmund Wilson, I want to be the greatest writer who ever lived,
don t you ? (Connors 1)
During his senior year, Fitzgerald joined the Army, and thinking he would die in
the war, rapidly wrote a novel, The Romantic Egotist. He later revised it as
This Side of Paradise. After falling in love with a southern bell, Zelda

Summer of Love
The Summer of Love The 1960s was a decade of political and social upheaval. The counterculture,
which was what the decade was called, became disappointed with all the restrictions and conventions
of the straight society. The Summer of Love did not occur until 1967, but the decade was inspired by
the Bohemian spirit which was already present in the 1950s; known as the Beat generation. The
counterculture gained significant influence in liberal cities such as Berkley and San Francisco. In
1967, Scott McKenzie released his song San Francisco and with this song came rumors of a huge love

Pranksters chemist, supplying the active ingredient fro Kesey s organized events called acid tests.
These acid tests soon became advertised events in public halls. In January 1966, two thousand people
attended one at San Francisco s Fillmore Auditorium and the Warlocks (now the Grateful Dead),
provided the music and Kesey wired the place with speakers, cameras, and TV screens for them to
replay. Leary would become one of the most famous countercultural figures in this era along with Ken
Kesey. LSD was a huge part of the spiritual and music scene of the Summer of Love. There was one
church which was Tim Leary s League for Spiritual Discovery; he wanted to keep his religion pure
and aloof from social structures. He described it as evading the law, We re not a religion in the sense
of the Methodist Church seeking adherents. We re a religion in the basic primeval sense of a tribe
living together and centered around shared spiritual goals (Miller 8).

  • 2. The Catcher Of The Rye, By J. D. Salinger From the beginning of time, achieving success and greatness has been the ultimate human goal. Success can be found in many different forms, from ruling a Roman empire to receiving a high grade on a test. Society s view of success has changed throughout generations, urging people to conform to society s beliefs in order to fulfill their goals and dreams. The theme of success and fulfillment are evident in literature and theatre pieces that were written centuries ago, and continue into novels written in the present. The play Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, and the novel The Catcher in the Rye, written by J. D. Salinger follow the lives of two protagonists as they are each individually shaped by society s idea of prosperity. The protagonists of both the novel and the play, Holden and Macbeth, exhibit similar qualities that allow them to attempt to achieve ultimate greatness and find success. Both the novel The Catcher in the Rye and the play Macbeth demonstrate the pressure there is on men to prosper and achieve high rankings in society. This pressure leads to the development of wrath and mental illness, resulting in the disruption of harmony. Both Holden and Macbeth possess significant amounts of wrath, causing poor decision making. To add, Macbeth and Holden both struggle with mental illness, again causing unfavourable outcomes. While the men possess these similarities, they differ in the outcome of their stories. As Macbeth fails to overcome his wrath and mental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Moral Dilemma Of Obedience From Authority And Supervisors A moral dilemma that I had faced in my life that continue to cloud my judgement even until this is day is obedience to and how far we will let it reflect on how we let it decide how we live our life. In today s day and age with the everyone having so many choices on how they can live our lives conflicts with our moral reasons with what is right or wrong and having to outweigh the values of our conflicts. Its makes I question authority and test on how far our obedience from authority and supervisors lays thought us. When we were little most of us were taught that by my parents what was right or wrong and how by simply having these few characteristics a person can have such as stronger, more powerful, and intelligent or just have more experience than you that they are always right. We grow up in today s world thinking that should always question the authority because nothing can be too good to be true . And that we should have to the ability to reconsider whether or not something is rational or irrational because if not it can end badly. When I was little I attend catholic school for most of my childhood education and there we were taught what they say is moral and immoral. Well when I graduated learned that because a person was gay didn t mean that they were bad or evil but that they are just like you and I. So with this in mind to make me reevaluate what I found moral or immoral so my obedience to question if I taught it was wrong. And how they are certain norms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Role Of The Teaching Assistant The teaching assistant needs to know roughly how to play the instruments and which ones create which note, i.e. Kettle drums have all the notes on it so need to be hit in different places to create the different sounds, and different drums in a drum kit for example create different sounds. They also need to know the names of the different notes and what they sound like and how they can be strung together to form a possible tune. By the teaching assistant having a knowledge in music in general this then allows the class to be potentially cut into two or more smaller groups depending upon the number of assistants there are. This means that learning would be more effective as the children are in smaller more manageable groups and the ratio of teacher/assistant to pupil is better and if a pupil has a question or needs help ... They are still young and so therefore may from time to time not want to do what is asked of them as they have been given something to use/hold that makes a loud noise. Therefore it is important to know the schools policy and know the rewards and consequences within the policy to effectively promote positive behaviour and learning. If pupils see that their behaviour is affecting the lesson in the negative way they want, then that in itself is a reward for a job well done . It is the job of the teaching assistant to praise just as much as it is the job of the teacher. Praise boosts self esteem which is even more helpful in the pupils that lack a positive attitude and helps deter them away from making a disruptive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Does Research Design Affect Study Outcomes in Criminal... Part 1 Weisburd, D., Lum, C., Petrosino, A. (2001). Does Research Design Affect Study Outcomes in Criminal Justice? The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. 578 (1): 50 70. Within social science, as well as pure research, there seems to be a continual and ongoing debate about qualitative and quantitative research. Some take the view that, All research ultimately has a qualitative grounding, while others believe There s no such thing as qualitative data. Everything is either 1 or 0 (Howe, 1988). In actuality, the debate should not be so black and white; both styles of research have their advantages and disadvantages. At times though, the way one constructs hypothetical constraints may actually prejudice the intended results or at least provide a framework from which to form bias. In the hard sciences, scholars tend to agree that randomized experimental studies have much higher internal validity than nonrandomized studies. This is basic to the overall scientific method of investigation. The term scientific method refers to a way of investigation or the acquisition of knowledge through the testing of a theory or hypothesis, then working through measurements (observation and empirical notes) to come up with a result, which should prove or disprove the original theory. Thus, the basic method consists of a) formulating a question or hypothesis, b) designing an experiment or means of collecting data, c) observation or experimentation, d) analyzing ... • 8. American Intervention In Iraq As years pass, Americans are becoming increasingly critical of the American invasion of Iraq following the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. As a result, many Americans are apprehensive in supporting another American intervention in a Middle Eastern country during the middle of an uprising. For years, politicians have echoed the same sentiment: I will not create another Iraq in the Middle East, however, when faced with the opportunity to do exactly that, it seems the decision is not so simple. On one hand, a direct intervention would be extremely costly and very might well be unsuccessful entirely. Jamie Fly, the Former Director for Counterproliferation Strategy at the National Security Council, argues that the situation in Syria more convincingly warrants American intervention than the situation in Libya; however, government officials and the American public remain largely apprehensive to make a move in Syria like they did in Libya. Fly cites Syria s possession of chemical weapons, their program to covertly secure supplies to nuclear weapons, and their harboring of radical groups that posed a threat to the United States as warrants for American involvement in the Syrian Civil War (Fly). Fly also argues that the U.S. and its allies should establish protected zones around threatened cities although he neglects to describe what he means by that and seriously consider arming the opposition (Fly). • 10. Economic Theory Of Stimulating Aggregate Demand Essay The United States is better off economically today than it was in 2008 when the Great Recession hit. The government had to act fast to minimize job losses, stabilize the housing and credit markets, and get consumers back to work and spending money. The fiscal stimulus programs were effective in doing just that by lowering unemployment and stabilizing the stock market. There are a few things, however, that are intriguing. Based on what we have learned in our economic theory of stimulating aggregate demand through fiscal stimulus, the side effect is typically inflation (Schiller, 2013). The United States has not seen inflation like what the economists predicted with the latest inflation rate at 0.2% (Coin News Media Group, 2015). Despite all of the billions of dollars pumped into the economy, the Fed has been unable to sustain the desired 2 percent inflation rate, which they believe is indicative of economic growth (Mason, 2015). And, while the job market appears to be healthy with unemployment hovering around 5.1%, 27.7 percent of the unemployed, or 2.2 million, have been jobless for 27 weeks or more (Ferreira, 2015). Those who are employed part time because they aren t able to find full time employment and those who have given up looking for employment, even after their unemployment benefits have expired, aren t counted in the unemployment numbers (Ferreira, 2015). • 13. The Effect Of Reaction Time On Cyclohexanone Results and discussion 4.1. Polymerization mechanism In base catalyzed aldol condensation of cyclohexanone (A), KOH or NaOH acts as a non nucleophilic agent. In presence of base, cyclohexanone initially turns to enolate by losing αhydrogen. The formed enolate then reacts with the carbonyl group of the second molecule and leads to the formation of aldol intermediate. The polymerization reaction proceeds further by the reaction between the carbonyl group of third molecule and the activated methylene group of the second molecule. In the present study, the effect of reaction parameters on conversion of cyclohexanone and the product properties was extensively analyzed. Effect of reaction time on (a) Monomer conversion, (b) Hydroxyl value, and (c) Iodine value of products (reaction conditions: temp. = 110 C, A/K ratio = 0.2). The result (Table 2) shows that there is no significant change in acid values of the products with reaction time. The average acid value of the product samples is around 0.29. The analysis shows that solubility of the products in MTO decreases with the increase of reaction time. The reason for the gradual decrease in solubility may be due to the increase in average molecular weight of the products with time. The measured solubility of 20 hrs sample is 65 wt%, whereas the solubility of monomer is around 92 wt%. The data also shows that viscosity of the products increases with the increase of reaction time. Both the phenomena (i.e. decrease of solubility and increase of viscosity with time) clearly indicates that the extent of polymerization reaction increases with reaction time. The average value of moisture content in the products is 1.82 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Talent is an important quality in a dancer because if a dancer is unable to set themselves apart based on their talent, it is impossible for them to become discovered in the industry. Some people think a dancer has to also be smart and able to apply corrections and memorize choreography efficiently. Without this, the talent of a dancer is wasted. In order to be a competitor, a dancer must be close to perfect, which comes with applying corrections given to them by a judge. Another quality looked for could be the dancer s professionalism, or how well the dancer works with other dancers. As a dancer, you work with many different dancers and choreographers. A dancer needs to be able to be professional and friendly while working with others. If a dancer is unable to work with other dancers, the group dances will fail, and if a dancer is unable to work with a choreographer they can not efficiently learn the choreography. Dental Terminology Essay Current Dental Terminology is a code set that is developed and updated by the American Dental Association (ADA) in order to report the dental services and procedures for reimbursement. Many of the codes were published by CMS as HCPCS D code in conjunction with ADA however, the ownership of the CDT codes remained with the ADA. In 2010, ADA ended the distribution with CMS and took over the CDT codes, which are available for purchase from ADA. The purpose of CDT codes is to achieve uniformity, consistency, and specificity when reporting on the dental procedures and being able to provide efficient processing of dental benefits claims. Since 2013, the ADA started publishing the CDT codes annually. They publish the new codes, revised codes and deleted codes in each annual edition. The dental professional are required to update these codes to be in compliance with HIPAA regulations. As a result, the reimbursement to dental professionals is based on the CDT codes reported in the ADA claim form, therefore, utilizing the new codes will not only maximize reimbursement but, will also reduce audit liability. Genetic diversity within a species, which has taken 3.5 billion years to evolve, makes adaptations to these changing environments possible. Unfortunately, the rate of extinction of genetically diverse organisms is rapidly increasing, thus reducing this needed biodiversity, largely due to the human impacts of development and expansion. Over the years, only 22 species have been removed with a third of them becoming extinct regardless, a third recovering fully, and a third put on mistakably (WWW site, What is..). In terms of the taking aspect of the law is where the controversy begins. The Takings Clause of the fifth amendment states, nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation (Pendley, 1995). This means that any endangered species on an owner s private land must be compensated for. Regrettably, the ESA of 1973 fell short of its high expectations and has completely failed up to this point from a multitude of discovered flaws in the authorization of the law from the start. Problems with the ESA of 1973: The problems which have arisen since 1973 seem to be endless. First of all, the time needed to put an endangered species on the list is much too long.
