The BYOD/BYOT implementation plan for 8th grade science allows students to use their own devices in class. 2. The platforms that work with the school network are Microsoft Windows, Android, and Apple
iOS. This will be important information for students and parents to know in advance, especially,
if both are deciding which device the student plans to use in the classroom. These are the best
options because they are operable with various devices and support creating, collaborating,
sharing, and feedback amongst the teacher and the students. They also provide easy of access to
created files, anywhere. Students will still have access to eCLASS (similar to Desire to Learn
D2L) and will use the dropbox and discussion post at times to turn in class assignments or
projects. The main online portal for class is through eCLASS, which provides an online learning
environment.
3. Students who do not have devices will have several options available to accommodate this
issue. Students will be allowed to use the 8 laptops that are stored in the class, use the in class
student computer when available, and share their devices with peers. The teacher may also
reserve computer lab and/or media center time, or borrow laptop carts from other departments
when available to ensure all students will have access to devices during school hours.
4. Student groupings will vary. Students may be grouped at times by ability, device availability,
heterogeneous groups, and based on the activity. When reviewing for test, students may be
grouped for team based learning (Kahoot! or Quizlet Live). When completing research projects
or working in stations, students will be grouped in groups of no more than 4. Students may be
grouped in pairs to complete lab reports, note taking, classwork, creating an online notebook
(Microsoft OneNote) or solving problems using a QR code reader. Students may work
individually to take notes, complete homework, blogging, reading, and to complete test or
quizzes (eCLASS, Poll Everywhere, or eBooks).
