BYOD Implementation Plan for High School Spanish
● SCCPSS BYOD Policy:

● The platform used will be mobile devices, preferably with an Android OS
(Google). There are numerous educational apps that can be used on these
devices. We will only be using ones that are free. Most can also be used on iOS
(Apple) and Windows (Microsoft) devices as well, which is not an issue other
than the occasional slight difference in functionality that the students using a
different OS might have to figure out amongst themselves. Most high school
students will already be carrying a smartphone on them on a day to day basis, so
this is the most convenient, as well comfortable, platform for the average student.
● For those that do not have a smartphone, a tablet with a mobile OS and wifi
capability can now be bought for less than a scientific calculator. Of course, that
still may not be easy for all students to obtain, so I will also bring a couple
devices I have and ask students to volunteer to bring any extra devices they may
be willing to share with classmates (preferably out-of-service phones/low-cost or
out of date tablets to wane theft/fear of damage). Some sort of registration
system (check-in/check-out) might need to be established for shared devices to
log any damage or theft.
● I would like to allow solo use of apps for students who finish classwork early. For
example: during a test, I would allow students to use Duolingo for extra practice
after they turn their test in. This is an app that can be used with headphones and
practice grammar both through written and verbal repetition. I can assure
students are using their devices appropriately in this setting because I’ll already
be walking around the classroom, patrolling those who are still testing. I would
also like to use quizzing/survey apps (like Socrative) to encourage classroom
participation during normal lecture days. For example: turning pop quizzes into a
“game” by making the grading immediate (through an app, so students can
compare answers and add a little bit of a competitive edge to encourage
conversation) and only using them for extra credit/participation grade. I would
also encourage any students that would like to use a recording app to help with
their reviewing and note taking.
● Potential Apps to Be Utilized:
1. Duolingo
2. AudioNote
3. Socrative
4. FluentU
5. Memrise
6. Cat Spanish
