My Reflection Of My Nursing Experience In The ED
This Friday, September 15th, I had my clinical observation experience in the ED. I
was there from 7:00 am till noon, viewing the flow and duties of the nursing staff on
the unit, as well as practicing the skills I have thus learned in school. Throughout
most of the morning, I followed Jessica, who had been a nursein the ER for ten years.
It was an insightful experience that broadened my previously limited knowledge of
the roles and experience of an emergency nurse.
Several of the roles which I observed this morning were expected: the nurses took
vitals for incoming patients, performed focused assessments, and were the main
communicators between family, the patient, and the physician. I realized when the
first patient came in around 10:00 am, the RN s role in assessments, gathering blood
work, and carrying out all the necessary steps to situate and stabilize the patient as
soon as possible. It was incredible seeing the nurses work together, in sync, in those
first moments when the patient was brought in. And though expected, I appreciated
seeing just how much communication was held and information was gathered from
the patient or family members by the nurse. Jessica asked the right questions from
both parties, while still showing incredible empathy and not making the whole
situation seem rushed and flustering. I understood this as another essential role of the
nurse in the ED; he or she must maintain even in such a fast paced environment
empathy and focus in each interaction.
When I spoke with Jessica I inquired more about the training and certifications
required to work as an ER nurse and foster such skills. She informed me of the
necessity of having ACLS and BLS certification, as well as of the VA s specific
trauma nurse courses. All members on the ED are also required to have a PMDB
certification (Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior). She added that a
majority of the nursing staff are certified as emergency nurses.
I learned from Jessica and the other staff about their interpersonal techniques to
manage the stress found in the ED. They each mentioned facilitating debriefing and
chats with each other when especially chaotic or stressful occasions arise. I learned
there are weekly meetings

Letting Your Competition Set Your Prices
Pricing your products is actually one of the hardest decisions for a new business
owner to make. Make the prices too high and no one will want to buy. Make the
prices too low and you can t make a profit. Not knowing how to price products
properly is a common challenge for new business owner. And it is one that can make
or break a company.
One business decided to let their competition set their prices. And it had the potential
of driving the company into bankruptcy.
The owner based his products prices on what he thought the market would bear. He
looked at what his competitors were charging and set his prices accordingly. So, if
the competition is charging $100 for a thingamajig, ... Show more content on

Those reports are your scoreboard to knowing whether your business is winning or
losing the game.Just receiving the reports is not enough. You, as a business owner,
need to understand what the data on each report means and how it affects your
operations.
Let s say you re watching a baseball game on TV. You can see the number of runs
each team has up on the scoreboard. That is the basic measure of success or failure
in the game. But it is not the only one. As a new batter approaches home base, the
announcer talks about the player s statistics RBIs, batting average, and number of
stolen bases. Those numbers tell you if the batter is All Star material or about to be
sent back to the minor leagues. The team stats tell you how well they are doing this
season.
After the game ends, you end up watching part of a cricket match, a sport about
which you know absolutely nothing. The scoreboard for the game shows the number
of runs scored and the number of wickets lost. The announcer talks about each player
s innings, not outs, centuries, overs, wides, and strike rate. Yet, there is no
information on the team s performance other than the scores.
Utterly confusing to someone not familiar with the game. Who is winning? Is that
player one of the best or not? Is the team doing well this
Summary Of Memories Of A Dead Man Walking By Sister
Helen...
All people hold in them an awareness of death, but prisoners on death row have a
heightened sense of their own mortality. Knowing death is within the near future
pushes a mind to wander to insanity. Not being able to go about actions or express
thoughts to loved ones in the last moments of life is the leading factor flooding the
mind. Through analyzing the deathpenalty s impact in Memories of a Dead Man
walking , Sister Helen Prejean emphasizes human s fear of death motivates a need to
seek forgiveness and life s purpose.
These humans on death row fear no afterlife is available or their life was not
manifested to the fullest potential. Sister Helen Prejean in this piece represents
eternal life and comfort. I put my hand on his shoulder ... Show more content on

To have a firm moral bedrock for our societies we must establish that no one is
permitted to kill and that includes governments (Prejean). This is a solid argument
because the government has had the power from the time this nation was created,
but why does that give them the authority to kill? People just go by the rules of
society because that is how it has been from the beginning of time. No one person
living on this earth should be able to decide if another person is put to death. With
that being said the other side has a good argument that these men have done such
horrible acts they do not deserve to live and are a threat to the world. I do not
condone their terrible crimes (prejean). They have not only killed the person, but
hurt the loved ones of that the victim. They have ruined the lives of the people who
loved the victim. These criminals may figure out forgiveness is possible and life is
full of hope when it is too late.
Humans on death row die a thousand times before their actual death. With death
near, Sister Helen Prejean s presence is crucial to Patrick and others. There are a
mass amount of moral issues involved with the death penalty. Death drives humans to
see life in a different way and gives them the opportunity to reach out to God and
achieve comfort in
Argumentative Essay On Over Prescription Drugs
Are prescription drugs overprescribed? Are patients being prescribed the correct
medications that they actually need? Are generic drugs doing the same for the human
body that marked up brand name medications are? These are some of the public s
biggest questions that can be easily answered by research. Everyone is affected by
medication and healthcare in general today. Many real life scenarios are offered
throughout this writing to support the argument. The following thesis statement is a
worldwide problem. Unfortunately, the United States has the largest problem with
inflation of drugcost and over prescription of medications. Many people are to blame:
drug manufacturers, insurers, prescribers, educators, and many others. A change is
needed.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Competition within the marketplace is not being controlled effectively by the
FTC. Insurance companies against medical care facilities are killing consumers
pocketbook. Brand name pharmaceutical companies against a generic drug
pharmaceutical cause inflation in prices as the two drug companies compete with
each other. Real life examples are overwhelming to hear. In concluding efforts of
this argument here are some strong real life examples supporting the thesis. Since
2007, Lyrica has helped treat the pain of those who suffer from fibromyalgia. In
2014, the drug was Pfizer s top selling drug and brought in $5.17 billion in sales,
and in 2015, the drug was the pharmaceutical giant s second best selling drug
bringing in $4.8 billion. The price of the drug increased by about 51 percent over
the three years, which produced $208 million sales attributed solely to the price
hike. (The Facts About Rising Prescription Drug Cost, 2016, p.2) The previous
real life examples like narcan, epipen, and 0.9% normal saline are all very similar
examples of sales skyrocketing and prices continuously on the rise. A perfect
example of the FTC and FDA not doing their job is the next example. Sovaldi, a
drug to treat Hepatitis C virus, costs $1,000 per day for the 12 week course of
treatment amounting to $84,000. Additionally, a drug like Sovaldi is often
prescribed in concert with other drugs, significantly raising the total treatment cost.
An 18 month investigation by United States Senate Committee on Finance into
Gilead Sciences Hepatitis C drugs Sovaldi and Harvoni found that the company
pursued a marketing strategy and final wholesale price of Sovaldi...that it believed
would maximize revenue...Fostering broad, affordable access was not a key
consideration in the process of setting the wholesale
Selecting The Next Chapter
Selecting the Next Chapter Eventually, we all reach the age at the end of our high
school career when we have to choose a path. The path that we select will guide
each of us to the trail that we will follow for the rest of our lives. Some of us will
choose to go directly into the workforce, potentially go to a trade school, or even
go onto a post secondary education in order to obtain a degree. What decision we
make then determines what the rest of our life will hold, how successful we can
possibly be, our yearly salary, and can introduce us to people who will play active
roles throughout our entire life.
Now, I am a senior in high school, and I have quickly found this decision right on my
doorstep. Over the past few years, I have had my eyes on several different post
secondary college options, but I have narrowed this list quite significantly over the
past few months based on factors like their available majors, the college s size, and
the extracurricular activities that are offered by the institution. With this said, I have
selected three colleges that have specifically caught my eye based on these factors:
Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky; Purdue University in West Lafayette,
Indiana; and Saint Mary of the Woods College in St. Mary of the Woods, Indiana.
Majors Of course, when selecting colleges recently, it was necessary to pick those
ones that followed my interest base. Ideally, this would be to obtain a Master s

Kolb s Cycle Of Experiential Learning
Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning
I have always believed that we learn by our own experiences. I think that this belief
that I have lived by is why I was so intrigued by this particular learning theory. I will
be discussing Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning. I will explain the definition of
this particular type of learning style and how it explains how as an individual one
learns. I will be describing the four different stages of Kolb s learning cycle and Kolb
s four different learning styles. I will also discuss how this learning style will
essentially help me with lifelong learning beyond my BAAS degree in a personal and
professional manner.
David Kolb is an educational theorist that helped develop the Experiential Learning
Model in the early 1970 s it was then published in 1984. The basic assumption for
Kolb s cycle is that this type of learning is built on the idea that a person s
preference of learning can be described with two different levels: a four stage cycle
of learning and four types of learning styles. He defines that learners experience a
cycle of experiences, these experiences then lead to reflections, and we then take
these experiences and build upon them to create new experiences. In Kolb s Cycle
of Experiential Learning theory he states Learning is the process whereby
knowledge is created through the transformation of experience (Kolb, 1984, p. 38).
What I enjoyed about Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning method is that not only
does it let one
Rousseau s Views On Private Property
Henri Aleksi VanhanenMidterm Exam 11.6.2015 PART A 1. The quote was made
by Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712 1778) in his creation On Social Contract (1762)
(Rousseau, Social Contract, 4). Rousseau s discourse on private property can be
understood as a response to John Locke s theories regarding property and
especially to Locke s labor theory and the government s role in it (assumption
based on the similarity of their discourse). According to Locke s labor theory, a
man s labor defines his right to own something (Locke, Second Treatise
Government, 16) and that one of the government s top priorities is to guarantee
inheritance of private property for those who have and own something (Locke,
Second Treatise Government, 37). The theory also contains the aspect that one can
own something if he improves it (Locke, Second Treatise Government, 15). In the
concept of the society and government s duties Locke and Rousseau have different
ideas. Locke states that the most important social contract is made between the
people and that the government should not impose its grip upon things that the
people are capable of solving together themselves (Locke, Second Treatise
Government, 4). For Rousseau the state of nature is not a constant state of war
(Rousseau, Social Contract, 4). This explains why Rousseau says that war cannot
arise from personal relations. Rousseau s basic idea behind the quote is to state that
the civilization s creation and idea of private property and division of
Wonderful Words Welcomed With Wedding Weight Loss
Essay
Wonderful Words Welcomed with Wedding Weight Loss In August 2012, Special
K cereal ran an advertisement in Brides magazine that featured a glowing bride
smiling radiantly whilst holding a bouquet of red roses. At first glance, her
wedding gown appears to be a traditional, white, mermaid style gown; however, if a
reader looks at the garment more closely, he or she will notice words discreetly
embedded into the fabric of the gown. These words are positive attributes that
people may gain if they lose weight. Special K often uses its slogan What will you
gain when you lose? , and did so in this advertisement. The advertisement is not for
only the cereal, but for a customized weight loss plan provided by Special K that
will presumably include buying Special K products. By using this weddinggown with
positive bonus effects of weight loss written on it in elegant letters, Special K
creates an effective weight loss advertisement. Kellogg s first introduced Special K
during the 1950s, and began the trend of high protein cereals that has continued
well into the beginning of the 21st century (A Historical Overview 2). Special K is
generally well known as a cereal that many people will eat whilst trying to lose
weight. When eaten correctly and in moderation, Special K can certainly be an
effective weight loss tool.
The words embedded on the dress include splendor , sophistication , grace ,
exhilaration , charm , elegance , happiness , sparkle , pride , and shine .

CNN Rhetorical Analysis
The website my group choose to do our rhetorical analysis on is CNN. CNN stands
for Cable News Network. CNN was founded by Ted Turner and 25 other members
in 1980. CNN was originally a tv channel. CNN lasted from 1980 2003 on tv. In
9995 CNN was made into a website. The website attracted growing interest and is
now one of the most popular news websites in the world. The widespread growth
of blogs, social media and user generated content have influenced the site. The
website CNN helped us find the observations (what) , examples (how) , analysis
(why) to rhetorical concepts. We figured out how to use the concepts and how not
to use the concepts. The rhetorical concepts are audience, purpose, Ethos, Logos,
and Pathos. By observing the website CNN the audience is mainly for politicians
and students. The reason the audience is politicians and students is because of the
titles such as Today in politics which are for politicians. The titles such as Top
stories help to inform students to create research papers. The reason why it is for
politicians is because politicians enjoy being updated on politics which CNN
provides for them. The reason it is for students is because of the specific topics under
the Top stories category which can provide information that students need for

The website CNN helps inform people with the top bullet points such as sports ,

observers up to date on specific topics and information located inside these bullet
Video Games Disadvantages
Grab a Controller
Video games have been growing in popularity since the day they came out, but
what do they do to us?. Most adults see video games as a bad addiction and only
see the negative aspects. But truth be told, there are many good things that can come
out of playing video games. Video games have many benefits: they can improve
knowledge, make people physical, and can help people overcome certain problems.
Video games often carry some educational content. Some video games are so
educational, they are used in our school systems. Some of the video games are made
purely for the use in school systems, (Papallo). Many games can help teach math,
history, and English. Take Sumdog for example; this computer game is very helpful
in teaching elementary children math. It has all different kinds of mini games that
teaches children addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division. Some children
have a hard time with learning, but video game s have helped these kids,
(kpcommunications). There are also video games that teach people survival skills.
Take the game Minecraft for example; this game is good for teaching the
importance of survival. Like making a house for shelter, a farm for food supplies,
and teaching what certain tools are used for.
One thing I learned from Minecraft was the explanation on how sand turns into
glass. Without survival games like Minecraft, many people would not know what
to do when they are in a situations that relies on survival skills, like being lost in the
woods. That is why it is important that we let children play these types of games.
Storyline games are the best games to teach history. They give people valuable
information of what has happened on this earth. The game Assassin s Creed is the
best example of an amazing storyline games series. This game teaches children
about past history war periods in many different counties. Assassin s Creed is the
best video game to explains and show how the United States became a country. Also,
showing scenes from these storyline games can be helpful to catch the attention of
the children that do not like to learn. Without any of these types of video games,
many children worldwide would have seen grades that do not truly reflect how

Carrie Buck s Argumentative Analysis
When one chooses to write on a matter that seems to have been laid to rest decades
ago their burden extensively lies not in trying to argue for their position, rather in
showing the relevance of their position. This paper attempts to do both of these things
when it comes to non consensual sterilizations of women, specifically disabled
women. A practice prominent in the 20th century, this paper examines coerced
sterilizations from a feminist care ethicsperspective and ultimately concludes that
paternalistic arguments for this practice are in fact eugenic arguments, and thus
renders coerced tubal litigations as unethical. Although neo eugenicsis starting to gain
a number of followers for its genetic benefits, this is but a misconception of... Show

This is true; however, Linda Sparkman and others like her deserve justice. This
justice begins by admitting that Ora McFarlane s actions and the court s decision
was beyond unethical but purely eugenic. A relationship between a parent and a
child is one involving genuine care, acceptance, interdependence between the two
and a duty of the parent to adhere to these virtues. Sterilizing a teenager because they
fraternize with men is not justified by care ethics nor the law as shown earlier due to
the lack of statutory authorization. The mother s wishes do, however, make sense
from a pro eugenic
The Four Stages Of Cohesiveness
It is widely view by academics that when there is strong teamwork with high
cohesiveness, it adds competitive advantage to an organization. Cohesiveness was
defined as a dynamic process that is reflected in the tendency for a group to stick
together and remain united in the pursuit of its instrumental objectives and/or for the
satisfaction of member affective needs (Carron, Brawley, Widmeyer, 1998, p. 213).
Tuckman (1965) theorise that there are four stages in team development; forming,
storming, norming and performing. From the four stages, it is believed that the
forming, storming and norming stages lead the team to self develop cohesiveness.
Once the team is able to get together, they would then be able to focus their attention
on performing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were (1) planned, (2) facilitated by an outside consultant, (3) engaged in by
intact workgroups, (4) designed to develop the problem solving capability of the
crews, and (5) intended to solve major problems (p. 311). Planned would be the list
of things that the participants need to achieve during the team building activities.
A 3rd party consultant or event organizer would be engaged by an organization to
provide training to its employees. The trainer will need to plan and execute the
activities to only the specific group of employees as requested by the organization.
The training package would be tailored and help employees develop problem
solving skills to address issues faced by the organization. Synergy as described by
Scarnati (2001) is a process of interaction where 2 + 2 = 10. It is a magnifying effect
of each component in which the whole surpasses the sum of the parts (p. 6). When
team members can contribute effectively together, it can result in a direct and
indirect multiplied effect to the issues they wish to tackle. Team buildingcan be
described as a continuous learning process and should not be a one time activity. The
idea is to assist the team to function effectively through on going process of self
evaluation and consciousness. However, some managers were pessimistic about any
positive effects from team building. They have experienced that in some team
building activities, the debriefing session turned out to be finger pointing, focus on
mistakes rather than improvement. Team building becomes a backlash on creating
synergy, and performance actually decreased instead of becoming better (Dyer Dyer,
2013, p. 23). Klein et al. (2009) has three thoughts about team building. Firstly, they
think that there is insufficient proof whether team building in general is effective in
the first place. Second, team building may not be specific enough

Abstract: Background: The clinical distinction between acute bacterial meningitis
(ABM) viral meningitis is difficult in the acute phase of illness. Bacterial culture of
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is the gold standard technique for confirmation but
approx. 50% of cases are not confirmed. Antibiotics are often instituted before
lumbar puncture, reducing the chance of a microbiological diagnosis. Objective: to

How Does Shakespeare Create Sympathy For Macbeth
Sympathy for Macbeth in William Shakespeare s Macbeth
The sympathy that we have for Macbeth changes greatly as the play progresses. This
is due mainly to the role that the other characters, mainly Lady Macbeth, play in
influencing his thoughts and decisions. In some cases he seems powerless to stop a
chain of events, like the witches prophecies, and at other times just to weak to resist
the evil temptations. In this essay I will determine how and why our sympathy for
Macbeth changes during the course of the play.
Our first impressions of Macbeth are from the descriptions that we get of him from
other characters at the beginning of the play. For example the captain calls him Brave
Macbeth, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However before the close of the scene he comes to an agreement with himself that
he will not go out of his way in order to become King of Scotland, If chance will
have me king, why chance may crown me/Without my stir. During this scene we
learn about Macbeth s possible motives. Would he have ever thought that he could
become King, let alone murdering the King, or is it the witches who start off the
whole process of Duncan s murder? Initially it is Macbeth that comes up with the
idea. I think that the witches appeal to what Macbeth wants to believe, they do not
tell him what to think and never tell him how any of their prophecies will come
true. They are not the origin of the idea of the murder, they may be appealing to
that idea, but they never create it. The witches appear again in the play when
Macbeth seeks them out in Act IV and they give him three new prophecies. These
prophecies appeal to Macbeth s train of thought. He feels that he is safe if he acts
on his desires, as a wood cannot move and a man has to be born of a woman. Again
these prophecies do not offer any instructions about what Macbeth should to do. I
believe that however much the witches seem to be connected with Macbeth s change
of heart, they cannot be blamed for controlling him. They exist in the play as the
constant reminder of the potential of evil in the

from the sea 50,000 100,000 years ago.In 1990, flows of lava from Kilauea Volcano
on the Island of Hawaii invaded Kalapana, a city known for black sand beaches.
Although the residents were able to evacuate safely, their homes were incinerated,
and by the end of that year all of Kalapana lay buried under 50 feet of lava. In the past
1,100 years, more than 90 percent of Kilauea s surface has been covered by new

Extermination Camp Treblinka
Treblinka was the main extermination camp used during the hitler Nazi reign. The
Extermination camp was only around for one year but had more deaths than any
other camp. Treblinka isn t one of the well known camp but it is one of the camps
most known for it s larger extermination areas.
Treblinka death camp is located in the North eastern region of the general
government and it is also located near the Polish village of Wolka Okraglik.
Treblinka was a junction on the Warsaw Bialystok railway line that was used to
transform Jews from Warsaw to Treblinka. The germans established Treblinka to be
apart of the Akito Reinhard operation according to Holocaust Education Research
Team. The death camp was constructed to look like a 1,312 by 1,968 foot trapezoid
which they began construction on the begining of April 1942. Richard Thomalla
was the supervisor of the construction of Treblinka. Many of the workers were
forced Jews and some were from the construction company Schonbrunn from
Leipzig. They also had them build a 26 foot tall watch tower Holocaust

The Search For God, Ancient Egypt, By Jan Assmann
Jan Assmann, the famous Egyptologist, covers the essence of researching Egyptian
theology in his classic work Theologie und Frömmigkeit einer frühen Hochkultur.
Translated to English under the title The search for God in Ancient Egypt , the
book tackles the complex goal of investigating Egyptian Theology and offers
Assman s scholarly theories on Egyptology. With that said, the focus of the book
shifts away from the study of Egyptian deities and mythology but centers rather
around the implication of divinity at a societal and individual level. Overviews of
theology and piety take precedence over the specific practices and technical beliefs
of Egyptian religion, though the latter is also heavily discussed to better elaborate on
the former s context.
The first chapter Religion: Divine Presence and Transcendence establishes the topic
of this book, summarizing the theme of divine presence and the concept of a single
god and multiple gods (essentially monotheism vs polytheism). Divided into 2 main
parts, the first, aptly named The Dimensions of Divine Presence: The Implicit
Theology of Egyptian Polytheism , mainly revolves around implicit theology and
what Assmann considers to the be the three dimensions of Egyptian religion: the local
and cultic dimension, the dimension of cosmos (The visible elements), and the
mythic dimension. These three aspects form the implicit theory, activities or notions
that are associated with divine beings, and serves to realize in religion the
On The Parable Of The Ten Bridesmaids
In Matthew 24:3, in reply to the disciples request to know what sign would signal
our Lord s coming at the end of the age, Jesus spoke to them about the last days. He
had made it very clear to them that the end would not come immediately, but only
after considerable time and troubles. In response to their question, Jesusthen gives
them a long answer which includes three parables: Parable of the Fig Tree, Parable
of the Faithful and Wise Servant and the Parable of the Ten Bridesmaids. One of
the main subjects that Jesus discusses in his answer is the necessity to be ready for
his return. In order to illustrate this need to be ready, he tells this parable of the ten
bridesmaids. This parable can also be called the parable of the ten virgins
Bunkering In Nigeria Essay
The Political Economy Of Illegal Bunkering In Nigeria
By
KГІmbГІ Mason Braide (PhD)
Port Harcourt, Nigeria
Demonise Diabolise:
The Niger Delta has been a source of illicit international business deals (like the trans
Atlantic slave trade), as far back as the 15th century. Today a new form of syndicated
criminal proclivity is threatening the very foundations of Nigeria s petroleum
industry, and by extension, the Nigerian economy, as well as putting tremendous
pressure on Chief (General) Olusegun Obasanjo. That problem is the illegal
bunkering of crude oil and/or its derivatives.
The term bunkering , (whether legal or illegal) has been thoroughly abused,
demonised, and misused in Nigerian parlance, so much so that the mere ... Show more

However, the criminalisation of bunkering operations, the unstable, inadequate, and
unreliable domestic refining capacity, and a miasma of simplistically conceived
national energy policies, among several other reasons, account for this unique
anomaly in Nigeria. Actually, ships prefer not to come to Nigeria and bunker
because of the high port charges, related miscellaneous illegalities, called levies , and
official extortions like mandatory but illegal military task force approvals .
The Origins Of A Dysfunction:
Before 1973, petroleum products pricing was not uniform in Nigeria. The retail
prices of petroleum products were dependent on the point of sale, relative to the only
primary distribution depot then, at the Shell BP Refinery, Alesa Eleme, near Okrika,
near Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
In October 1973, the military dictatorship of General Yakubu Gowon decreed
uniform pricing of refined petroleum products for the Nigerian market. Subsequently,
the Petroleum Equalisation Fund (PEF) Decree No. 9 of 1975 was promulgated. To
date, it provides for the uniform pricing of all petroleum products throughout Nigeria,
irrespective of distance from point of production. The Board of the Petroleum
Business Law Mistake
Introduction
In the Law of Contract the phrase mistake Misrepresentation is applied when one or
both parties of a contract act under a false or mistaken understanding.
Mistake can be defined by Pendleton , Vickery (1998), [1] as; вћў A
misunderstanding regarding a fact, causing one or more parties to hold disagreeing
beliefs about the foundation of a contract.
Mistakes can be made in the form of a contracts subject matter or as a mistake of
identity. There are 3 different types of mistake in Contract Law. вћў Common

вћў Voidable
On the other hand if the contract is deemed voidable due to misrepresentation the
contract still exists and the good title is passed from the first party to the crook
who then passes the good title on the an innocent third party (as long as the
innocent third party paid a reasonable price for the goods, if they did not pay a
reasonable price the court will find they did not have good faith and the contract is
therefore void). In a case like this the only thing the plaintiff can do is find the crook
and sue him for the amount lost.
There are two ways a court will decide if the contract is made void for mistake or not.
If the contract was made face to face or at a distance (eg. on the phone or by letter)
вћў At a distance
This was first applied in the case Cundy v Lindsay (1878)[10] where a crook had
pretended to be a regular customer of the company and ordered a substantial amount
of goods. Once in possession of the goods he sold them on to an innocent third party
who bought them at a reasonable price (good faith). The company then took action
against the innocent third party under the grounds of mistake. It was held in this case
that the plaintiff was mistaken as to the identity of the crook and the contract was
made void, on the grounds that the plaintiff thought they
Analysis Of Galileo s Dialogues
In Galileo s Dialogues Concerning Two New Sciences, the discussion is broken up
into multiple days. In the First Day, Galileo, through the dialogue between
Simplicio, Sagredo, and Salviati, discusses and exemplifies various topics. They
begin by considering scale in mechanics, and then later, infinity, void, and end the
day by discussing pendulums and the vibrations of strings. These topics are
ultimately main ideas of the text, and are explored through dialogue and proposed
practicals. However, the form of the text itself is of as much interest as the subjects,
namely the purposes of the dialogue format, the three characters, and whether the
form lends or detracts from the general understanding of the text. As a whole, the

Ultimately, a weight is to be attached to the wire, so that is pulls down in an
attempt to pull the top of the wooden cylinder within the glass cylinder away from
the water within it (pgs. 14 15). He concludes that, if the wooden cylinder does not
separate from the water, it is because of the force of nature rejecting the creation of
a vacuum, and if the glass breaks after adding more weight, then the vacuum only
accounts for a part of the resistance. Sagredo claims to reach clarity after the
explanation of this experiment, and then compares it to how water will only move
up a cylinder to a height of eighteen cubits before it will travel no more. However, it
is difficult to see how this experiment explains how a nail of greater size can have a
greater strength than that of a smaller size. It is required to make the logical jump
that the individual pieces that make up an iron nail act with each other in the same
way that water does. As water does not want to separate from itself in the space of
the cylinder as described in the above experiment, a nail does not want to separate
from itself, even if there is a great weight pulling on it. In the experiment, if too great
a weight was applied, the glass broke, in the case of the nail, one can only assume
that the equivalent of the glass shattering would perhaps be the nail bending, rather
than snapping

Ficciones, by Jorge Luis Borges Essay
In life it is necessary to have fantasy, because without it, life would be dull and
meaningless. Life would be so different without dreams, since they are what
motivate humans to keep on moving forward in order to achieve their goals. This
is what Jorge Luis Borges is trying to explain to the reader in the book Ficciones
which is very confusing, but also very deep in meaning. These stories demonstrate
a theme of reality vs. fiction which is fascinating because in many of the readings
fantasy is required at some point to accomplish a purpose or goal. Each unique story
hides a meaning in the text which is a lesson to be learned. The confusion that is
caused is similar to a labyrinth in which the reader gets lost. The message is hidden...

Reality becomes so insignificant to even remember. Hladik, protagonist of The
Secrete Miracle, is a man bound to be persecuted on account of his ethnicity and
political ideals. Similar to the United States, a country where so many cultures and
backgrounds are crammed together, where at one point or another, the feeling of
oppression or, at the very least, discrimination is sensed by many. Once the reader
understands that the protagonists is human, and suffers, cries, laughs, hungers, loves
like them, the bait is taken and comparison occurs between the readers real lives
with the very realistic lives of those in the stories. A man determined to accomplish,
another locked away at a Nazi camp awaiting execution the readers, wrapped in a

Gambling Increase Crime In California
Casinos are a good bet for California Monopolies have no part in an American
society that values free market and private ownership. Yet, California is essentially
condoning such a monopoly by limiting gaming casinos to Native Americans, or at

1986, both the County of Riverside and the State of California was trying to limit the
operation of bingo games on Indian land. However, the Appellee Indian Tribes, the

unwarranted regulations and instituted an action for declaratory relief in Federal

The untreated conditions that pathological gamblers have may compound an
unfortunate situation. Not everyone who gambles becomes addictive. However, the
casino industry recognizes that some people have gambling problems and casinos
provide help and education for those that do have problems. All gamblers do not
have broken homes or abuse their children. Plenty of broken home have nothing to
do with gambling. Again, there is no imperial evidence that substantiates every time
a hand of cards is lost a child is beaten.
Next, Bingo and lotteries are forms of gambling. Neither makes the effort to help
addicts the way casinos have. According to Beacon Economics (2013), one study
found that 1.4 percent of people in treatment are addicted to bingo (p. 4 5). Beacon

the most common form of gambling (p. 9). To date, I have yet to see a boycott of
lottery tickets outside of Seven Eleven stores, or outside of churches boycotting bingo

Reaction on Modern Greek Mythology
Modern Greek mythology is one of the finest arts you can find in the 21st century,
it has been the point where students and scholars study it in order to have a good
look at its beauty and popularity. Greek mythology in the modern times had
influenced people so much that it became somewhat of a lifestyle where people adapt
the way the gods and goddesses look and act based on books and stories from the
past. We can tell that people use Greek designs as well on drawing up plans for
buildings as well as interior and exterior design.
Thousands of years have passed since the creation of these stories and up until today,
people still admire its beauty and uniqueness through fashion and design. Also, it
peeks our curiosity on how people back then have created such art that scholars until
today still can t find solid proof on how it all

the local drivers who band together into what is known as the Pennsylvania Posse. In
our local paper they usually have a write up about The Outlaws whenever they

so close to the track I should probably know more than I do, but that s about the

In my quest for knowledge my first stop was pretty easy to find. I went to the

Summary Of William Faulkner Speech
After receiving the 1950 Nobel Peace Prize for literature, American novelist
William Faulkner addresses the guests gathered at the Stockholm event. At the time
of his address, America had just witnessed and been apart of one of the most
terrifying wars in all of history the Cold War. He shifts from a cautionary to an
advising tone while keeping a more specific target audience in mind than just those
tuning to the event. Faulkner attempts to appeal to the current and future generations
of young authors. The purpose of his famous speech is to convince those who
follow in his footsteps to write of hope for humanity and make a positive impact on
the world even in this time of global anxiety and terror during the Cold War. He
successfully does this throughout the entirety of his speech by building emotional
pathos in order to persuade his audience to make a change and includes dramatic
diction, powerful metaphorical languages and contrasting anthesis.
Love and honor, pity and pride and compassion and sacrifice are all phrases that so
powerfully and metaphorically contrast each other in the context of paragraph 3. He
begins his address in sort of a somber tone and ends in an empowering way while
lifting the spirits of the listeners by concluding with positive message of disregarding
evil and hate and focusing in on sharing love and hope instead. Through these
antithetical phrases, Faulkner reminds readers of the old verities and truths that
writers lack in their writing.

Chancellorsville Mission Command

The Battle of Chancellorsville took place after an unofficial truce following the

On January 26, 1983 President Abraham Lincoln replaced Gen. Ambrose Burnside

MG Hooker did not follow the mission command principle to provide a clear
commanders intent. He was reluctant to do so for two reasons, lack of trust in his
men and fear of revealing his plan. He did not trust his commanders. His
commanders were characterized by caution, some competence and a good deal of
caution, but no brilliance (Gallagher, p.6, 2007). The second reason was fear of his
plan being exposed.
Part of GEN Burnside s failure was in part to southern intelligence. MG Hooker was
devoted to not allowing this to happen, as seen through his emphasis on his
intelligence programs. Building a cohesive team, sharing understanding and

Which was very confusing to me because at first seeing the image you don t think
of any of the five senses. The image looks like a typical painting from the middle
ages depicting religion. But as Professor Eric Palazzo went along explaining his
reasoning it all fit in place. The illustration shows what looks like a deacon or priest
holding the incense looking like he s waving across the table. But it is not the
deacon but Christ. It was very confusing to me at first to understand how the deacon
was christ and why was he incensing the table. He explained that the deacon using the
incense he become Christ and sees through smelling the incense connecting to the
image above which is not two separate image but one, the image above being Jesus.
The men watching the deacon is like them seeing Christ there the incest. Also, the
image of the bells represented the hearing sense. People hearing the harmony of the
church. The other two senses are very simple to explain in the painting the taste
sense can be explained by the wine in the painting. The last sense being touch is
everywhere in the painting. Like the vision above you can touch it
Universal Truth In Exit Through The Gift Shop
Exit Through the Gift Shop is a documentary about French immigrant Theirry Guetta
and his passion for filming street art. The majority of his film takes place in the city
of Los Angeles and follows Theirry Guetta on his quest to interview numerous graffiti
artists including Banksy, an infamous graffiti artist from Britain. Banksy s street art
started out small but he eventually worked his way up to be a bigger and better
sensation and soon his stencils were seen all throughout the country of Britain.
With the use of realist aesthetics, Exit Through the Gift Shop offers a universal
truth that the majority of the audience can relate to: that no matter what you do, do
it with all you have and do it because it is something you love and believe in.
Theirry Guetta believed in this universal truth and practically spent his whole life
filming the world around him the moment the camera was in his hands because he
knew he was in love and there was no going back to what life was like before. In

Mise en scene consists of various elements including lighting, props, costume you
get the idea. The lighting in Theirry Guetta s film depends on the location Exit
Through the Gift Shop is taking place at that particular time. Whenever Banksy is
being interviewed, the lighting is soft and a shadow is casted over his face because
of the fact that Banksy did not want the world to know what he looked like. The
same goes for the props in Exit Through the Gift Shop, as well. The time and
location is key as to what the street artists use. There are spray paint cans and latters
and paintbrushes all used by these graffiti artists. The costume in Exit Through the
Gift Shop isn t exactly put together by a fashion designer. What these street artists are
wearing are their own clothes and that just adds to the authenticity of the
The Female Body Documentary Analysis
The Female Body, an incredible machine hidden by underwear, clothing, and makeup
and pressured by society. Incredible Machines tackles the daily challenge of being
female by having a conversation about our underwear.
I m tired of battling the eye stares and pretending they don t happen and that they don
t bother me. I m exhausted from competing with photos to look my best, do my best,
and be the best female in my space. I m just tired of having to need a great body,
hair, and clothing all the time. Let s not even get into the fact that it s expected to
look good for everyone daily and that we re expected to have it all together while
being proper yet we figure it out. We all do. We take a class, work, take time with
our children, make children, handle our home, pay bills, plan vacations and if we don
t get all these things done there s an anxiety about them.
That anxiety is every day. The stares continue, the comparisons and images thrown at

Analysis Of Don Aker s The First Stone
Throughout life people find themselves in tough situations. Situations that change
them. In Don Aker s novel The First Stone, we are taken through Chad Kennedy
also known as Reef s journey of how he went from being a young offender that
couldn t have cared much about others to becoming a person who shows kindness to
others. We are shown that by being around certain individuals people are able to
change, people are also able to change from doing certain actions, and people can
change from learning from their mistakes. People can change the way they are as
demonstrated by taking advantage of opportunities provided to them resulting in the
ability to make better choices.
The people that individuals spend time with can change the way they behave as they
can have them think differently or feel different emotions. This is shown in the novel
when Reef is spending time at the rehab centre and interacting with the people
there. He treats them very differently compared to the people at the northern hills
especially Leeza. He hadn t been able to get Leeza out of his head, had lain awake
half the night thinking about her. pg 220. Reef is clearly shown to have a change
in thoughts since before he always this tough guy but now it shows that he is now
starting to care for others and that benefits him since it allows him to make better
choices when it comes to the people are that close to him. Leeza is also shown to
have changed because of Reef. Okay, who stole my roomie and replaced

The Godfather Is A 1972 American Crime Drama Directed
By...
The Godfather is a 1972 American crime drama directed by Francis Coppola based
on the 1969 novel by Mario Puzo. The film stars Marlin Brando and Al Pacino as
the leaders of a powerful family business of crime. The story is centred on Michael
Corleone, and how he grows from a young man wanting nothing to do with the
family business to a ruthless Don who will stop at nothing to exact his revenge. The
movie grossed around 286 million dollars and is touted as one of the most successful
films of all time, and in 1990 it was selected for preservation in the United States Film
Registry. The film portrays many different character stereotypes commonly used in
the Crime genre, and this helps to allow the viewer to identify with the characters
better, as they already have an understanding of what their intentions are.
Michael Corleone is the youngest son of Don Vito Corleone and, despite his families
criminal background, he doesn t want anything to do with his father s bussiness. He
can be considered the main protagonist of the story, however he fits under the
character stereotype of the Villain, in accordance with the stock characters stated by
narrative theorist Vladimir Propp. Michael is a returned war hero and is first
introduced attending his sister Connie s wedding with his girlfriend, Kay. Much of
Michael character is introduced to the viewer in this scene, primarily his disinterest in
the family business. When he is talking with Kay about Johnny Fontaine, and what his
The Nature of King Lear Essay
The most prevailing images in King Lear are the images (metaphoric and actual) of
nature. The concept of nature seems to consume the dialogue, monologues, and
setting.
It might be useful to view nature as `the natural order of the world (and, perhaps, the
universe). When one goes against the natural order, chaos will follow. Shakespeare
has made this point clear in Troilus and Cressida where Ulysses predicts that once
the specialty of rule hath been neglected disaster will follow, for take but degree
away, untune that string, and hark what discord follows (I.iii). But what are the
natural orders that were upset in King Lear? First, and foremost, King Lear divided
his kingdom and stepped down from the throne. A king of divine... Show more

215).
As Regan and Goneril show their disdain and, thereby, expose their `natural selves to
Lear, his recognition of them and the wrong he did to Cordelia are also expressed
with the language of nature; of Cordelia he says, O most small fault, how ugly dids t
thou in Cordelia show! That, like an engine, wrenched my frame of nature from the
fixed place (I.iv. 262 265). And when Lear realizes that both Regan and Goneril have
deceived him, he calls them unnatural hags (II.iv. 276).
Lear s actions of distributing his kingdom to his daughters (which in a patriarchal
society such as Lear s is against natural law) and his rashness of expelling Cordelia
and wrongly rewarding Regan and Goneril, were a violation and misreading of true
nature which, from that point on, lead to the destruction and death of Lear and his
family.
The subplot in King Lear is of Gloucester and his sons Edmund and Edgar. Edmund,
the illegitimate, bastard son, can be seen as somehow unnatural according to the
laws of society at that time. Gloucester himself says to Kent, regarding Edgar, But I
have, sir, a son by order of law... (I.i. 18). The subtext here is that Edmund s
conception was outside the law and unnatural to the social structure.
Like Lear, Gloucester fails to see the true nature of his children and also invokes the
language of nature in blind ways. After wrongly condemning Edgar he calls Edmund
a loyal and natural boy (II. i. 85).
In speaking of Edmund in

Loneliness And Pain With A Drizzle Of Mixed Emotions
About...
Heartache and pain with a drizzle of mixed emotions about life as an independent
woman is what Kate Chopin was confronted with and it is what she wrote about in
her short stories. We are talking about a woman before her time that challenged all
to see the world through representations of reality. She was able to see the world for
what it was during a difficult timefor people of color and women battling to have
equal rights. Repeatedly, she wrote about death, exotic thoughts, superficial love and
real life issues however, the stories she wrote often portrayed some form of the life
events and struggles that she in fact faced herself. As a young girl Kate was exposed
to, and witnessed many events that helped to influence her unique writing... Show

But I know it isn t true. I know he says that to please me. And mamma, she added
drawing on her mother s head down to her, and whispers he hasn t punished one of
them not one of them since the baby was born (pg. 422 423 American Literature.)
In comparison this relates to Kate s real life events with the region in which she
lived, the social class of her real life husband and slavery. When Kate was nineteen
she married Oscar Chopin whom was a successful cotton broker, and over the next
ten years she and Oscar had children and this seemed to have brought joy to Kate
and Oscar s life. (pg. 420 American Literature) This seems to be a similar story line
in both Desiree and Kate s life. They both met and married a successful man, they
both lived in Louisiana, have a child or children and seem to be happy. Even though
Kate s and Desiree s story seem to take a different turn of events for a moment in
time there are items that need to be brought to light. Kate brings the area of
Louisiana to life when she describes the the sad looking place, which had not
known the gentle presence of a women and how the steep roof came down and
looked like a cowl. Big, solemn oaks that grew close to the house that shadowed
the home like a pall (pg. 422 American Literature) Kate witnessed this area in great
detail and she was able to make this portion of the story so believable that while
reading this section, the vision is brought to life. If Kate had not observe the land of

  • 2. My Reflection Of My Nursing Experience In The ED This Friday, September 15th, I had my clinical observation experience in the ED. I was there from 7:00 am till noon, viewing the flow and duties of the nursing staff on the unit, as well as practicing the skills I have thus learned in school. Throughout most of the morning, I followed Jessica, who had been a nursein the ER for ten years. It was an insightful experience that broadened my previously limited knowledge of the roles and experience of an emergency nurse. Several of the roles which I observed this morning were expected: the nurses took vitals for incoming patients, performed focused assessments, and were the main communicators between family, the patient, and the physician. I realized when the first patient came in around 10:00 am, the RN s role in assessments, gathering blood work, and carrying out all the necessary steps to situate and stabilize the patient as soon as possible. It was incredible seeing the nurses work together, in sync, in those first moments when the patient was brought in. And though expected, I appreciated seeing just how much communication was held and information was gathered from the patient or family members by the nurse. Jessica asked the right questions from both parties, while still showing incredible empathy and not making the whole situation seem rushed and flustering. I understood this as another essential role of the nurse in the ED; he or she must maintain even in such a fast paced environment empathy and focus in each interaction. When I spoke with Jessica I inquired more about the training and certifications required to work as an ER nurse and foster such skills. She informed me of the necessity of having ACLS and BLS certification, as well as of the VA s specific trauma nurse courses. All members on the ED are also required to have a PMDB certification (Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior). She added that a majority of the nursing staff are certified as emergency nurses. I learned from Jessica and the other staff about their interpersonal techniques to manage the stress found in the ED. They each mentioned facilitating debriefing and chats with each other when especially chaotic or stressful occasions arise. I learned there are weekly meetings
  • 3. Fuzzy Financial Analysis Fuzzy Financials Letting Your Competition Set Your Prices Pricing your products is actually one of the hardest decisions for a new business owner to make. Make the prices too high and no one will want to buy. Make the prices too low and you can t make a profit. Not knowing how to price products properly is a common challenge for new business owner. And it is one that can make or break a company. One business decided to let their competition set their prices. And it had the potential of driving the company into bankruptcy. The owner based his products prices on what he thought the market would bear. He looked at what his competitors were charging and set his prices accordingly. So, if the competition is charging $100 for a thingamajig, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those reports are your scoreboard to knowing whether your business is winning or losing the game.Just receiving the reports is not enough. You, as a business owner, need to understand what the data on each report means and how it affects your operations. Let s say you re watching a baseball game on TV. You can see the number of runs each team has up on the scoreboard. That is the basic measure of success or failure in the game. But it is not the only one. As a new batter approaches home base, the announcer talks about the player s statistics RBIs, batting average, and number of stolen bases. Those numbers tell you if the batter is All Star material or about to be sent back to the minor leagues. The team stats tell you how well they are doing this season. After the game ends, you end up watching part of a cricket match, a sport about which you know absolutely nothing. The scoreboard for the game shows the number of runs scored and the number of wickets lost. The announcer talks about each player s innings, not outs, centuries, overs, wides, and strike rate. Yet, there is no information on the team s performance other than the scores. Utterly confusing to someone not familiar with the game. Who is winning? Is that player one of the best or not? Is the team doing well this
  • 4. Summary Of Memories Of A Dead Man Walking By Sister Helen... All people hold in them an awareness of death, but prisoners on death row have a heightened sense of their own mortality. Knowing death is within the near future pushes a mind to wander to insanity. Not being able to go about actions or express thoughts to loved ones in the last moments of life is the leading factor flooding the mind. Through analyzing the deathpenalty s impact in Memories of a Dead Man walking , Sister Helen Prejean emphasizes human s fear of death motivates a need to seek forgiveness and life s purpose. These humans on death row fear no afterlife is available or their life was not manifested to the fullest potential. Sister Helen Prejean in this piece represents eternal life and comfort. I put my hand on his shoulder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To have a firm moral bedrock for our societies we must establish that no one is permitted to kill and that includes governments (Prejean). This is a solid argument because the government has had the power from the time this nation was created, but why does that give them the authority to kill? People just go by the rules of society because that is how it has been from the beginning of time. No one person living on this earth should be able to decide if another person is put to death. With that being said the other side has a good argument that these men have done such horrible acts they do not deserve to live and are a threat to the world. I do not condone their terrible crimes (prejean). They have not only killed the person, but hurt the loved ones of that the victim. They have ruined the lives of the people who loved the victim. These criminals may figure out forgiveness is possible and life is full of hope when it is too late. Humans on death row die a thousand times before their actual death. With death near, Sister Helen Prejean s presence is crucial to Patrick and others. There are a mass amount of moral issues involved with the death penalty. Death drives humans to see life in a different way and gives them the opportunity to reach out to God and achieve comfort in
  • 5. Argumentative Essay On Over Prescription Drugs Are prescription drugs overprescribed? Are patients being prescribed the correct medications that they actually need? Are generic drugs doing the same for the human body that marked up brand name medications are? These are some of the public s biggest questions that can be easily answered by research. Everyone is affected by medication and healthcare in general today. Many real life scenarios are offered throughout this writing to support the argument. The following thesis statement is a worldwide problem. Unfortunately, the United States has the largest problem with inflation of drugcost and over prescription of medications. Many people are to blame: drug manufacturers, insurers, prescribers, educators, and many others. A change is needed.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competition within the marketplace is not being controlled effectively by the FTC. Insurance companies against medical care facilities are killing consumers pocketbook. Brand name pharmaceutical companies against a generic drug pharmaceutical cause inflation in prices as the two drug companies compete with each other. Real life examples are overwhelming to hear. In concluding efforts of this argument here are some strong real life examples supporting the thesis. Since 2007, Lyrica has helped treat the pain of those who suffer from fibromyalgia. In 2014, the drug was Pfizer s top selling drug and brought in $5.17 billion in sales, and in 2015, the drug was the pharmaceutical giant s second best selling drug bringing in $4.8 billion. The price of the drug increased by about 51 percent over the three years, which produced $208 million sales attributed solely to the price hike. (The Facts About Rising Prescription Drug Cost, 2016, p.2) The previous real life examples like narcan, epipen, and 0.9% normal saline are all very similar examples of sales skyrocketing and prices continuously on the rise. A perfect example of the FTC and FDA not doing their job is the next example. Sovaldi, a drug to treat Hepatitis C virus, costs $1,000 per day for the 12 week course of treatment amounting to $84,000. Additionally, a drug like Sovaldi is often prescribed in concert with other drugs, significantly raising the total treatment cost. An 18 month investigation by United States Senate Committee on Finance into Gilead Sciences Hepatitis C drugs Sovaldi and Harvoni found that the company pursued a marketing strategy and final wholesale price of Sovaldi...that it believed would maximize revenue...Fostering broad, affordable access was not a key consideration in the process of setting the wholesale
  • 6. Selecting The Next Chapter Selecting the Next Chapter Eventually, we all reach the age at the end of our high school career when we have to choose a path. The path that we select will guide each of us to the trail that we will follow for the rest of our lives. Some of us will choose to go directly into the workforce, potentially go to a trade school, or even go onto a post secondary education in order to obtain a degree. What decision we make then determines what the rest of our life will hold, how successful we can possibly be, our yearly salary, and can introduce us to people who will play active roles throughout our entire life. Now, I am a senior in high school, and I have quickly found this decision right on my doorstep. Over the past few years, I have had my eyes on several different post secondary college options, but I have narrowed this list quite significantly over the past few months based on factors like their available majors, the college s size, and the extracurricular activities that are offered by the institution. With this said, I have selected three colleges that have specifically caught my eye based on these factors: Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky; Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana; and Saint Mary of the Woods College in St. Mary of the Woods, Indiana. Majors Of course, when selecting colleges recently, it was necessary to pick those ones that followed my interest base. Ideally, this would be to obtain a Master s Degree in Science for Agricultural
  • 7. Kolb s Cycle Of Experiential Learning Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning I have always believed that we learn by our own experiences. I think that this belief that I have lived by is why I was so intrigued by this particular learning theory. I will be discussing Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning. I will explain the definition of this particular type of learning style and how it explains how as an individual one learns. I will be describing the four different stages of Kolb s learning cycle and Kolb s four different learning styles. I will also discuss how this learning style will essentially help me with lifelong learning beyond my BAAS degree in a personal and professional manner. David Kolb is an educational theorist that helped develop the Experiential Learning Model in the early 1970 s it was then published in 1984. The basic assumption for Kolb s cycle is that this type of learning is built on the idea that a person s preference of learning can be described with two different levels: a four stage cycle of learning and four types of learning styles. He defines that learners experience a cycle of experiences, these experiences then lead to reflections, and we then take these experiences and build upon them to create new experiences. In Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning theory he states Learning is the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience (Kolb, 1984, p. 38). What I enjoyed about Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning method is that not only does it let one
  • 8. Rousseau s Views On Private Property Henri Aleksi VanhanenMidterm Exam 11.6.2015 PART A 1. The quote was made by Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712 1778) in his creation On Social Contract (1762) (Rousseau, Social Contract, 4). Rousseau s discourse on private property can be understood as a response to John Locke s theories regarding property and especially to Locke s labor theory and the government s role in it (assumption based on the similarity of their discourse). According to Locke s labor theory, a man s labor defines his right to own something (Locke, Second Treatise Government, 16) and that one of the government s top priorities is to guarantee inheritance of private property for those who have and own something (Locke, Second Treatise Government, 37). The theory also contains the aspect that one can own something if he improves it (Locke, Second Treatise Government, 15). In the concept of the society and government s duties Locke and Rousseau have different ideas. Locke states that the most important social contract is made between the people and that the government should not impose its grip upon things that the people are capable of solving together themselves (Locke, Second Treatise Government, 4). For Rousseau the state of nature is not a constant state of war (Rousseau, Social Contract, 4). This explains why Rousseau says that war cannot arise from personal relations. Rousseau s basic idea behind the quote is to state that the civilization s creation and idea of private property and division of
  • 9. Wonderful Words Welcomed With Wedding Weight Loss Essay Wonderful Words Welcomed with Wedding Weight Loss In August 2012, Special K cereal ran an advertisement in Brides magazine that featured a glowing bride smiling radiantly whilst holding a bouquet of red roses. At first glance, her wedding gown appears to be a traditional, white, mermaid style gown; however, if a reader looks at the garment more closely, he or she will notice words discreetly embedded into the fabric of the gown. These words are positive attributes that people may gain if they lose weight. Special K often uses its slogan What will you gain when you lose? , and did so in this advertisement. The advertisement is not for only the cereal, but for a customized weight loss plan provided by Special K that will presumably include buying Special K products. By using this weddinggown with positive bonus effects of weight loss written on it in elegant letters, Special K creates an effective weight loss advertisement. Kellogg s first introduced Special K during the 1950s, and began the trend of high protein cereals that has continued well into the beginning of the 21st century (A Historical Overview 2). Special K is generally well known as a cereal that many people will eat whilst trying to lose weight. When eaten correctly and in moderation, Special K can certainly be an effective weight loss tool. The words embedded on the dress include splendor , sophistication , grace , exhilaration , charm , elegance , happiness , sparkle , pride , and shine .

CNN was originally a tv channel. CNN lasted from 1980 2003 on tv. In 9995 CNN was made into a website. The website attracted growing interest and is now one of the most popular news websites in the world. The widespread growth of blogs, social media and user generated content have influenced the site. The website CNN helped us find the observations (what) , examples (how) , analysis (why) to rhetorical concepts. We figured out how to use the concepts and how not to use the concepts. The rhetorical concepts are audience, purpose, Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. By observing the website CNN the audience is mainly for politicians and students. The reason the audience is politicians and students is because of the titles such as Today in politics which are for politicians. The titles such as Top stories help to inform students to create research papers. The reason why it is for politicians is because politicians enjoy being updated on politics which CNN provides for them. • 12. Video Games Disadvantages Grab a Controller Video games have been growing in popularity since the day they came out, but what do they do to us?. Most adults see video games as a bad addiction and only see the negative aspects. But truth be told, there are many good things that can come out of playing video games. Video games have many benefits: they can improve knowledge, make people physical, and can help people overcome certain problems. Video games often carry some educational content. Some video games are so educational, they are used in our school systems. Some of the video games are made purely for the use in school systems, (Papallo). Many games can help teach math, history, and English. Take Sumdog for example; this computer game is very helpful in teaching elementary children math. It has all different kinds of mini games that teaches children addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division. Some children have a hard time with learning, but video game s have helped these kids, (kpcommunications). There are also video games that teach people survival skills. Take the game Minecraft for example; this game is good for teaching the importance of survival. Like making a house for shelter, a farm for food supplies, and teaching what certain tools are used for. One thing I learned from Minecraft was the explanation on how sand turns into glass. Without survival games like Minecraft, many people would not know what to do when they are in a situations that relies on survival skills, like being lost in the woods. A practice prominent in the 20th century, this paper examines coerced sterilizations from a feminist care ethicsperspective and ultimately concludes that paternalistic arguments for this practice are in fact eugenic arguments, and thus renders coerced tubal litigations as unethical. • 16. The Four Stages Of Cohesiveness It is widely view by academics that when there is strong teamwork with high cohesiveness, it adds competitive advantage to an organization. Cohesiveness was defined as a dynamic process that is reflected in the tendency for a group to stick together and remain united in the pursuit of its instrumental objectives and/or for the satisfaction of member affective needs (Carron, Brawley, Widmeyer, 1998, p. 213). Tuckman (1965) theorise that there are four stages in team development; forming, storming, norming and performing. From the four stages, it is believed that the forming, storming and norming stages lead the team to self develop cohesiveness. A 3rd party consultant or event organizer would be engaged by an organization to provide training to its employees. The trainer will need to plan and execute the activities to only the specific group of employees as requested by the organization. The training package would be tailored and help employees develop problem solving skills to address issues faced by the organization. Synergy as described by Scarnati (2001) is a process of interaction where 2 + 2 = 10. It is a magnifying effect of each component in which the whole surpasses the sum of the parts (p. 6). When team members can contribute effectively together, it can result in a direct and indirect multiplied effect to the issues they wish to tackle. Team buildingcan be described as a continuous learning process and should not be a one time activity. The idea is to assist the team to function effectively through on going process of self evaluation and consciousness. However, some managers were pessimistic about any positive effects from team building. They have experienced that in some team building activities, the debriefing session turned out to be finger pointing, focus on mistakes rather than improvement. Team building becomes a backlash on creating synergy, and performance actually decreased instead of becoming better (Dyer Dyer, 2013, p. 23). Klein et al. (2009) has three thoughts about team building. Firstly, they think that there is insufficient proof whether team building in general is effective in the first place. Second, team building may not be specific enough

This is due mainly to the role that the other characters, mainly Lady Macbeth, play in influencing his thoughts and decisions. In some cases he seems powerless to stop a chain of events, like the witches prophecies, and at other times just to weak to resist the evil temptations. In this essay I will determine how and why our sympathy for Macbeth changes during the course of the play. Our first impressions of Macbeth are from the descriptions that we get of him from other characters at the beginning of the play. For example the captain calls him Brave Macbeth, and ... However before the close of the scene he comes to an agreement with himself that he will not go out of his way in order to become King of Scotland, If chance will have me king, why chance may crown me/Without my stir. During this scene we learn about Macbeth s possible motives. Would he have ever thought that he could become King, let alone murdering the King, or is it the witches who start off the whole process of Duncan s murder? Initially it is Macbeth that comes up with the idea. I think that the witches appeal to what Macbeth wants to believe, they do not tell him what to think and never tell him how any of their prophecies will come true. They are not the origin of the idea of the murder, they may be appealing to that idea, but they never create it. The witches appear again in the play when Macbeth seeks them out in Act IV and they give him three new prophecies. These prophecies appeal to Macbeth s train of thought. He feels that he is safe if he acts on his desires, as a wood cannot move and a man has to be born of a woman. Again these prophecies do not offer any instructions about what Macbeth should to do. I believe that however much the witches seem to be connected with Macbeth s change of heart, they cannot be blamed for controlling him. They exist in the play as the constant reminder of the potential of evil in the

Translated to English under the title The search for God in Ancient Egypt , the book tackles the complex goal of investigating Egyptian Theology and offers Assman s scholarly theories on Egyptology. With that said, the focus of the book shifts away from the study of Egyptian deities and mythology but centers rather around the implication of divinity at a societal and individual level. Overviews of theology and piety take precedence over the specific practices and technical beliefs of Egyptian religion, though the latter is also heavily discussed to better elaborate on the former s context. The first chapter Religion: Divine Presence and Transcendence establishes the topic of this book, summarizing the theme of divine presence and the concept of a single god and multiple gods (essentially monotheism vs polytheism). Divided into 2 main parts, the first, aptly named The Dimensions of Divine Presence: The Implicit Theology of Egyptian Polytheism , mainly revolves around implicit theology and what Assmann considers to the be the three dimensions of Egyptian religion: the local and cultic dimension, the dimension of cosmos (The visible elements), and the mythic dimension. These three aspects form the implicit theory, activities or notions that are associated with divine beings, and serves to realize in religion the

He concludes that, if the wooden cylinder does not separate from the water, it is because of the force of nature rejecting the creation of a vacuum, and if the glass breaks after adding more weight, then the vacuum only accounts for a part of the resistance. Sagredo claims to reach clarity after the explanation of this experiment, and then compares it to how water will only move up a cylinder to a height of eighteen cubits before it will travel no more. However, it is difficult to see how this experiment explains how a nail of greater size can have a greater strength than that of a smaller size. It is required to make the logical jump that the individual pieces that make up an iron nail act with each other in the same way that water does. As water does not want to separate from itself in the space of the cylinder as described in the above experiment, a nail does not want to separate from itself, even if there is a great weight pulling on it. I-Search Narrative Essay example I Search Narrative At the tender age of two I moved from a development in the town of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania to the vast stretches of farmland that make up the area between Mechanicsburg and the neighboring town of Dillsburg. It was not a big move distance wise, but it would forever change my life. If I would have stayed where I was I would have went to a different high school, had a different set of friends, and who knows where I would be today. The Outlaws are a group of the best sprint car drivers in the country that tour around to different tracks all around the United States. Whenever they come to the Grove it is usually their only stop in the midstate and they race against each other and the local drivers who band together into what is known as the Pennsylvania Posse. In our local paper they usually have a write up about The Outlaws whenever they come to town, so this is where most of my basic information comes from. For living so close to the track I should probably know more than I do, but that s about the extent of my knowledge. In my quest for knowledge my first stop was pretty easy to find. I went to the Williams Grove website because it seemed like a logical place to start my search. On this website I found a lot of information on drivers, tickets, past grove winners and many other topics. One section of the website that was particularly interesting to me was the page with sprint car specs on it. These specs are what Williams Grove requires if you are going to race there so this seemed as good a place to start as any. According to Williams Grove s website a sprint car is defined as a racing vehicle of single seat design, built upon a racing chassis and mounted on four racing wheels. Specifically for Williams Grove all cars
  • 38. Summary Of William Faulkner Speech After receiving the 1950 Nobel Peace Prize for literature, American novelist William Faulkner addresses the guests gathered at the Stockholm event. At the time of his address, America had just witnessed and been apart of one of the most terrifying wars in all of history the Cold War. He shifts from a cautionary to an advising tone while keeping a more specific target audience in mind than just those tuning to the event. Faulkner attempts to appeal to the current and future generations of young authors. The purpose of his famous speech is to convince those who follow in his footsteps to write of hope for humanity and make a positive impact on the world even in this time of global anxiety and terror during the Cold War. He successfully does this throughout the entirety of his speech by building emotional pathos in order to persuade his audience to make a change and includes dramatic diction, powerful metaphorical languages and contrasting anthesis. Love and honor, pity and pride and compassion and sacrifice are all phrases that so powerfully and metaphorically contrast each other in the context of paragraph 3. He begins his address in sort of a somber tone and ends in an empowering way while lifting the spirits of the listeners by concluding with positive message of disregarding evil and hate and focusing in on sharing love and hope instead. Through these antithetical phrases, Faulkner reminds readers of the old verities and truths that writers lack in their writing.

He did not trust his commanders. His commanders were characterized by caution, some competence and a good deal of caution, but no brilliance (Gallagher, p.6, 2007). The illustration shows what looks like a deacon or priest holding the incense looking like he s waving across the table. But it is not the deacon but Christ. It was very confusing to me at first to understand how the deacon was christ and why was he incensing the table. He explained that the deacon using the incense he become Christ and sees through smelling the incense connecting to the image above which is not two separate image but one, the image above being Jesus. The men watching the deacon is like them seeing Christ there the incest. Also, the image of the bells represented the hearing sense. People hearing the harmony of the church. The film stars Marlin Brando and Al Pacino as the leaders of a powerful family business of crime. The story is centred on Michael Corleone, and how he grows from a young man wanting nothing to do with the family business to a ruthless Don who will stop at nothing to exact his revenge. The movie grossed around 286 million dollars and is touted as one of the most successful films of all time, and in 1990 it was selected for preservation in the United States Film Registry. The film portrays many different character stereotypes commonly used in the Crime genre, and this helps to allow the viewer to identify with the characters better, as they already have an understanding of what their intentions are. Michael Corleone is the youngest son of Don Vito Corleone and, despite his families criminal background, he doesn t want anything to do with his father s bussiness. He can be considered the main protagonist of the story, however he fits under the character stereotype of the Villain, in accordance with the stock characters stated by narrative theorist Vladimir Propp. Michael is a returned war hero and is first introduced attending his sister Connie s wedding with his girlfriend, Kay. Much of Michael character is introduced to the viewer in this scene, primarily his disinterest in the family business. When he is talking with Kay about Johnny Fontaine, and what his
  • 51. The Nature of King Lear Essay The most prevailing images in King Lear are the images (metaphoric and actual) of nature. The concept of nature seems to consume the dialogue, monologues, and setting. It might be useful to view nature as `the natural order of the world (and, perhaps, the universe). When one goes against the natural order, chaos will follow. Shakespeare has made this point clear in Troilus and Cressida where Ulysses predicts that once the specialty of rule hath been neglected disaster will follow, for take but degree away, untune that string, and hark what discord follows (I.iii). As Regan and Goneril show their disdain and, thereby, expose their `natural selves to Lear, his recognition of them and the wrong he did to Cordelia are also expressed with the language of nature; of Cordelia he says, O most small fault, how ugly dids t thou in Cordelia show! That, like an engine, wrenched my frame of nature from the fixed place (I.iv. 262 265). And when Lear realizes that both Regan and Goneril have deceived him, he calls them unnatural hags (II.iv. 276). Lear s actions of distributing his kingdom to his daughters (which in a patriarchal society such as Lear s is against natural law) and his rashness of expelling Cordelia and wrongly rewarding Regan and Goneril, were a violation and misreading of true nature which, from that point on, lead to the destruction and death of Lear and his family. The subplot in King Lear is of Gloucester and his sons Edmund and Edgar. Edmund, the illegitimate, bastard son, can be seen as somehow unnatural according to the laws of society at that time. Gloucester himself says to Kent, regarding Edgar, But I have, sir, a son by order of law... (I.i. 18). The subtext here is that Edmund s conception was outside the law and unnatural to the social structure. Like Lear, Gloucester fails to see the true nature of his children and also invokes the language of nature in blind ways. After wrongly condemning Edgar he calls Edmund a loyal and natural boy (II. i. 85). In speaking of Edmund in
