For Whom The Bell Tolls Research Paper
Ernest Hemingway s classic novel For Whom the Bell Tolls is an extremely inspirational work of
literature, especially for a person seeking a career in public service. During an interview with Rolling
Stone magazine, Barack Obama named For Whom the Bell Tolls as a book that really inspired him,
leading him to strive to become president and make a difference in this country. Public service is all
about making a difference, and this book inspires those that would like to make a difference. The
characters fight in the war and are committed to making a difference, knowing their lives can end at
any moment. For Whom the Bell Tolls is inspirational because it inspires people to make a difference,

Gothic Forest Description
I was walking up the moor on a sunny March morning, when I saw a forest in the distance. From
where I was standing I could see the leaves of the forest trees dancing back and forth. I ran fast to the
forest as the swaying leaves hypnotized me. Maybe too fast. I tripped over my black and white
converse and tumbled down the moor. My fall got grass all over my black leggings, ripped my white t
shirt, and knotted my blond hair. I looked up and I saw a sign. The sign was nearly rotted away by
nature. The sign read, Shark Forest.
The forest gave me a peculiar feeling as I entered. This was because there were no forest animals
making noise or motion. But, I continued on walking. As, I was walking I noticed a silhouette appear
across a tree. The silhouette

Bromophenol Blue Experiment
The plot that is most linear according to the line of best fit is Figure 2, f(x) = 0.00310x 0.4269 with a
R^2 value of 0.9973. Comparatively, Figure 1 (zeroth reaction order) has a best fit line of f(x) =
0.00210(x) + 1.3426 with a R^2 value of 0.9094, and Figure 3 (second reaction order) has a best fit
line of f(x) = 0.00550x+0.2716 with a R^2 value of 0.9559. So, my data suggests that Figure 2, rate
law 1, is the most linear, and hence the correct order of reaction can be assumed first order with
respect to Bromophenol blue. Thus, the slope of Figure 2 s line is 0.00310 and therefore the k value
for Bromophenol blue order of reaction is the slope, or 0.0031 sec 1. However, for hydroxide in trial 1

Also it is important to consider the spectrometers used in this lab, which had capped out above an
initial absorbance of 2 and higher in the lab, which skewed all future readings since it was impossible
to record from that value, which led to inaccurate readouts for the absorbance values. A major source
of error was that a different volumetric pipette was used to measure the initial absorbance and in Trial
1a than the micropipette used in the other four trials. Though both volumetric pipettes were 1 mL, the
possible miniscule differences between the two glassware could have created a significant difference
in the tiny volumes. The experiment could have been improved by use of a UV/Vis rather than a Spec,
which could improve the precision and accuracy of the measured absorbances and thus decrease the
uncertainty. Additionally, measuring the absorbances for a longer duration of time so that a significant
deviation from linearity could be observed could decrease the uncertainty in the reaction order with
respect to Bromophenol blue. The best alternative could involve measuring manipulated
concentrations directly against time instead of absorbance since the values would be in our control
instead of in the machine s control, which tended to show inevitable

Counterfeit Goods And The Global Market

Counterfeit Goods in the Global Market
Reducing the Frequency of Counterfeit Goods in the Global Market
Introduction
Despite counterfeit goods deceiving social perception, the act of manufacturing and the buying of
counterfeit goods or copied products is highly destructive to the overall function of the global
economy. On account of its appeal to those looking for a low risk, high profit system, many get
involved in the distribution of illegal goods through source countries including China and transit
countries like Egypt and Singapore, with the help of typologies such as parallel trading. Unbeknownst
to the common people is the economic, environmental, and health risks that this process produces. In
the sale of counterfeit goods, criminals manage to bypass tax revenues, decrease employment
opportunities, exploit labor through low wages, decrease company liability, and misuse ingredients in
pharmaceuticals which ultimately lead to a variety of intellectual property violations.1 Ultimately, it is
in the best interest of the public to identify the tactics used by criminals in an attempt to repudiate
detection, all while compromising company security and international, transborder authority.
Belgium is currently a member of the European Union wherein goods traveling through borders are
highly regulated according to the Customs Regulation. Nonetheless, Belgium s central points of entry

Essay On Presidential Democracy Vs Parliamentary Democracy
Topic: A presidential democracy is more likely to produce strong, effective government than a
parliamentary democracy.
Introduction
The structure of a governments and party systems are of crucial importance for the functioning and
well stable effective government. In this case let s take example of United States and United Kingdom.
Presidential system of United States;
The United State presidential system is a system of government that features a president as the nation
head of state and active chief executive authority. It is associated with the congressional system of
government. In a presidential system, the central principle is that the legislative and executive
branches of government should be separated.
This lead to the separate election by the electorate or an electoral college of the president, who is
elected to office for a fixed term of office, and can only be remove in extreme cases for gross
misdemeanor by impeachment and dismissal. In addition he or she does not need to choose cabinet
members from or commanding the support of a legislative majority.
As with the president set term of office, the legislature also exists for a set term of office and cannot
be dissolve a head schedule. In the president system, the president usually has special privileges in the
enactment of legislation, namely the possession of a power of veto over legislation of bills, in some
cases subject to the power of the legislature by weighed majority to override the veto.

Environmental Scanning Kendra McQueen MGT/498 March 14, 2016 Amy Novoa Environmental
Scanning Environmental scanning is an overarching term encompassing the monitoring, evaluation,
and dissemination of information relevant to the organizational development of a strategy (Wheelen,
Hunger, amp; Hoffman, Bamford, 2015,). The use of an environmental scan can analyze the
competitive advantage of a company, evaluate the strategies a company uses to gain an advantage over
their competitors and create value and examine the measurement guidelines and the effectiveness of
those guidelines to authenticate strategic effectiveness. Researchers have found a definite connection
between profits and environmental scanning. Internal and External ... Show more content on

Due to the size of the company and vast selection of products, suppliers offer huge discounts. Walmart
has ventured into the global market with the purchase of ASDA, the United Kingdom based retailer.
Weaknesses: Controlling an organization as large as Walmart is a massive undertaking. The quality of
customer services has suffered. Consumers are displeased by rumors of unfair labor practices alleged
by Walmart employees. Supply and demand have also been a problem for the retailer because due to
cost disputes with suppliers. The quality of goods has also been questioned by consumers. Walmart
has failed to create a strong presence in other countries. Opportunities: Walmart can venture into other
countries and form a global relationship with other companies. The retailer could learn from other
companies and offer home delivery for their internet sales. Walmart could also venture into the
convenience store market to save consumers money. Threats: Threats that Walmart face includes the
resistance of smaller local vendors that dislike the large retailer coming into their town and taking the
business. Competition from similar businesses is also likely. Consumer trust is a threat to Walmart,
and the company has been accused of overworking and underpaying employees, unsafe environmental

The Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury Tales Corruption in the Church Chaucer lived in a time dictated by religion and
religious ideas in which he uses The Canterbury Tales to show some of his views. Religion played a
significant role in fourteenth century England and also in Chaucer s writing. His ideas of the Church
are first seen in The Prologue, and he uses seven religious persons to show the influence of the
religion in his writing. Although many of his characters appear to portray part of the corruption in the
Church, he does give a small example in which one can conclude that he is speaking in praise. The
Friar, who lived off begging, appears to live a lowly existence, while Chaucer refers to the papacy in
writing, he had a special license from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chaucer makes forceful insults in his character explication. The Rule of good St. Benet or St. Maur/
As old and strict he tended to ignore (Chaucer 7.) A monk is supposed to have a strong authority in the
Church, but Chaucer explains that he breaks the written laws and precedents set by people recognized
as Saints and highly acclaimed people. The Monk is a lazy, disgusting man who lived a dishonest and
imprudent life. The Pardoner and Summoner appear together in The Prologue. They further illustrate
an example of Chaucer s awareness of a defiled Church. Chaucer provides humor to his description of
the Summoner in that he d allow just for a quart of wine /Any good lad to keep a concubine (Chaucer
20.) This means that a person who disobeys the Church without seeking repentance can easily bribe
the Summoner, in that he will overlook the situation. Chaucer writes about the Pardoner that by his
flatteries and prevarication/ Made monkey of the priest and congregation (Chaucer 22.) This is another
direct insult to the Church at the time. Although the Pardoner represents the lowly side of the Church,
Chaucer balances it out with a highly appraise of the Parson. He appears into the prologue before the
Pardoner and the Summoner, and he clearly is a perfect illustration of the Church, which should be
followed over the other corrupt religious men. Chaucer uses the Parson to show the Church s power

Biophilia Hypothesis Essay
Biophilia hypothesis is the theory that humans possess a natural tendency to seek connections with
nature and other forms of life (Britannica). Many advantages are hypothesized to be a result of
spending more time in nature such as improved memory, test scores and mood for students. A study
conducted in Barcelona Spain during 2012 2013 on students between the ages of seven to ten years
old yielded results that would accept the green space hypothesis. It was observed that students had a
year increase in working memory and a year reduction in inattentiveness when surrounded by a green
space (CITE). Plants were located at home, in the neighborhood, and in school therefore the students
were constantly exposed. The study linked the positive benefit between exposure to green space and
cognitive development amongst school children. Chris Mooney reflects upon this study in his article
Why Green Spaces are good for your kid s brain and notes that the greenness of the commute and
school made the difference in showing improvement over time in higher order working memory and
attentiveness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He additionally stated test scores improved by about five percent over the experimental time period
(Nieuwenhuijsen.) All of the researchers apart of the Barcelona study hypothesized what mechanism
with exposure to the environment creates the beneficial effects. The authors listed possibilities such as
less exposure to distracting noise, the likelihood of engaging in outdoor exercise, or the Biophilia
hypothesis. Biologist E.O. Wilson who helped create this theory proposed that we have a
psychological need for green landscapes. Therefore, when deprived of greenery, the human psyche has

the information to a professor, and I have valued the opportunity to become familiar with how
professional and informal communications differ. In addition, by working with other members during

Plato s Theory Of Form
Plato coined the term Socratic questioning to encourage the open discussion of philosophical theory
for the purpose of improving said theory. Aristotle took advantage of the practice of Socratic
questioning to inquire about Plato s theory of Form and its explanation of causality in comparison to
Aristotle s own theories of causality and being. Aristotle criticizes Plato s theory of Form because it
only accounted for a one dimensional explanation of what things are made up of and what identifies
them. Aristotle offers his own explanations of causality and being through his four causes and his
categories of being in an attempt to rectify Plato s perceived failures.
In Metaphysics 1.3 and 1.6 Aristotle criticizes Plato s theory of forms, specifically his accounts of
causality. In order to understand why Aristotle disagrees so wholeheartedly with Plato s theories it is
important to understand Aristotle s own theories on causality. Aristotle claimed that there were four
causes that explain what something is, what made it exist, and why it exists. The first is the material
form which accounts for the materials a thing is made of, next is the efficient form which is the force
that pushes the thing into existence, the third is the formal form which is the essence or function of the
thing in question, and the last is the final form which is the purpose for which the thing in question
exists. In the example of a house the material form is the wood, concrete, and insulation that

Evaluating Student Course Evaluations
Can you imagine a world where we carried on without knowing if what we are doing was right? Or a
world where we did not review and improve? We would probably still be using the abacus to count to
100 and the many inventions that we now see as the norm would not have existed if we did not
conquer the practice of evaluating. The need for evaluation is correct in all careers and aspects of life,
including teaching. According to Gravestock Gregor Greenleaf (2008), the U.S uses various tools to
evaluate teaching, like course evaluations, in class/peer evaluations, and an indication of ground
breaking approaches and techniques (Gravestock Gregor Greenleaf, 2008). However, student course
evaluations are one of the most common tools used to assess classroom teaching (Gravestock Gregor
Greenleaf, 2008).
The purpose of student course evaluations is for students to evaluate the service or ... Show more

Therefore, the validity of student course evaluations has been questioned by both faculty and
administrators (Wright, 2006). Particular recommendations include moving from anonymous to
confidential ratings, which may allow institutions to randomly follow up with students (Wright, 2006).
Furthermore, Wright (2006) recommends that tenured and non tenured faculty be evaluated differently
(Wright, 2006). In my opinion, this widens the gap between tenured and non tenured faculty and
would be a disservice to both. To the tenured because there might be some insightful opportunities that
may be ignored if not assessed, and to the non tenured, because once more they will be held to high
standards in an environment in which they might not be

Sample Naturalistic Observation Papers
On Friday, February 10th, 2017 I did a naturalistic observation with the intent to observe gender
dynamics unfold in a specific setting. I attended a party on Friday night and observed for
approximately 2 hours. The setting was a lingerie party at Gaia s Cradle.
Gaia s Cradle is a living learning community at Northland, located next to the CSE building, in a
historical two story home with six students residing. It is a learning community dedicated to gender,
women s, and sexuality studies. Gaia s regularly holds educational events, and always offers free
condoms and dental dams for anyone who needs/wants. As a setting, Gaia s is an extremely open,
accepting, and diverse place. For the party, he house was decorated with art made from a previous
event this week, photos of people with their bodies painted, and various lingerie (bras, stockings)
hanging from the ceiling. The lights were off, but there was mood lighting, fairy lights and black
lights. Dance music was playing loudly from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The men at the party only drank beer, while playing beer pong. The beer was in bottles, cans, or in the
red solo cups from the game. The women at the party either took shots together, or brought their own
wine or mixed drinks in water bottles. I believe many women brought their own drinks for safety
reasons. College, especially college parties, can be a very dangerous place for women. Rates of sexual
assault are extremely high on college campuses. These women likely mixed and brought their own
drinks so they would know they aren t getting drugged. The men weren t worried about being drugged
by drinking open solo cups of beer that were setting out in public. This is an example of male
privilege. The men at the party didn t need to worry about being drugged and possibly assaulted
because the overwhelming majority of assaults are committed by men and the victims are

Pros And Cons Of Autonomous Cars
In the past, people were attracted by science fiction because of that high technology equipment, and
now it is possible to make those high tech products come true. Autonomous Car (n.d.), points out the
self driving car is a vehicle that can guide itself without human conduction. This kind of vehicle has
become a concrete reality and may pave the way for future systems where computers take over the art
of driving. A self driving car is also known as a driverless car, robot car, self driving car or
autonomous vehicle. In turn, the car people use now a day, although some of them are hybrid car or

However, this belief fails to consider that the electricity for self driving car is also comes from fossil

Cuttlefish Growth Structure
Abstract This work was done to study the basic parameters which used for evaluation and
management of the most common and economic cuttlefish species in the Gulf f Suez Sepia savignyi ,
Samples were collected from the commercial landings in Ataka fishing port, during the fishing season
2014/2015. Age was determined for 452samples using length frequency analysis. Growth parameters
were estimated by applying the von Bertalanffy growth function. The asymptotic length (L∞), were
24.28, 33 and 32.11 cm for males, females and sexes combined, respectively the growth rate (K) were
0.61, 0.42 and 0.51/ year for males, females and sexes combined, respectively and (t0) were 0.328,

Cuttlefish are found in large numbers throughout the world s ocean waters from the warm, tropical
shallows to the cold depths of the deep ocean. The cuttlefish s catch in the Gulf of Suez was composed
of four species; Sepia savignyi, S. pharaonis, S. dollfusi, and S. trygonina and S. savignyi. Sepia
svignyi (Blainville, 1827) is the major targeted cuttlefish resource in the study area. This species,
endemic to Western Indian Ocean, Red Sea, Gulf of Suez, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea and the Persian
Gulf, it is a dominant component in commercial cuttlefish catches reported from the Gulf of Suez, this
species is heavily overexploited. In Egypt s commercially important trawl fishery in the Gulf of Suez,
the percentage of cuttlefish constitutes about 2.31% of the total catch during the fishing season
2014/2015. Few studies were made on the cuttlefish biology of Sepia savignyi Blainville, 1827.
Ibrahim et al. (1993) investigated the age, length weight relationship and theoretical growth of S.
savignyi collected from the Gulf of Suez. . El Gammal and Mehanna (2006) evaluated the cuttlefish
fishery status in the Gulf of Suez using surplus production model. EL Sherbeny (2009) studied
population dynamic and fisheries of three species of cuttlefish (S. savignyi, S. dollfusi and S.

As people live their daily lives, they have an effect on others whether that is knowingly or

Karen did because he got the social support he needed to cope with his grief. The decision Conrad
made of continuing to see Dr. Berger was a very smart step because a lot of people like Karen give up,
but he kept trying. This helped him avoid extreme measures and was a sign that he was starting to find
his identity. Equally important, when Conrad went to Dr. Berger for support after Karen s death he
said this to Dr. Berger after they talked about it, I don t know what I would have done if I couldn t

Conrad back from not hurting himself, and helped him control his feelings. In short, Dr. Berger helped
Conrad avoid suicide, which then gave Conrad the chance to realize he was a stronger person than he
thought he was. With this, he found his confident identity at the end of the book, which he would not
have gotten without Dr. Berger.
Berger also helped reduce Conrad s feelings of remorse. Conrad felt a lot of guilt for attempting

Alain Locke s The New Negro
Though times have changed, Alain Locke tries to convey that meaning into many of his writings.
Alain Locke has been an activist for the many years of the Harlem Renaissance. He spoke forward
about how the ancestors of African American referred as the Old Negros and the newer generation
referred to as the New Negros took different outlooks on life. American Negros goal in life at this
point in time was to change their mentality. But how? Locke had introduced many readers to the
vibrant wondrous world of African Americans. He opened the eyes to what American Negros can do
and not what they cannot do, no one should be restricted by any boundaries. One of his most
influential writings was Enter the New Negro , its open the mind of those who have come across it.
The treatment of African Americans seemed as it has changed from the 1920 to the 1930s but
mistreatment still remained. At this time African American needed to convey the images left behind by
their ancestors into something greater to please and uphold their legacy, not the legacy of themselves
but a legacy for the African American community altogether. Locke speaks of the mistreatment when
he states;
The Negro, too, for his part, has idols of the tribe to smash. If on the one hand the white man has erred
in making the Negro appear to be that which would excuse or extenuate his treatment of him, the
Negro, in turn, has too often unnecessarily excused himself because of the way he has been treated.

The Vineyard Community Is A Safe Environment For Children...

much the community cares and value the children receive from the volunteers and staff. The mission
of the vineyard is that the children from all different schools are brought together for a couple of hours
to engage in different activities to learn and grow as a whole. The vineyard has an enormous impact
on the community it keeps the children safe, and helping them with their everyday life afterschool. For

they feed the children dinner which is a very lovely. During my time at the vineyard the population of
children I worked with ranged from kindergarten to 3rd graders. I had a lot of one on one time with

My Experience In Learning A Foreign Language
Language as a subject is something we never give much thought to in our everyday lives, yet we use it
every single day as a way of communicating with others. We use it consistently throughout our day,
such as when we gossip to a close friend or even when we gesture at one of the food menus when
ordering in a fast food restaurant. According to the New Oxford American
Dictionary, language is the method of human communication, either spoken or written consisting of
the use of words in a structured and conventional way. It also includes nonverbal methods of
expression or communication, such as using facial expressions or sign language. Language involves
the ability to comprehend spoken and written words to create something meaningful when we speak or
write (Werker Tees, 2002). We know now what language generally means, ... Show more content on

Reflective Essay On Homelessness
Selflessness is defined as the act of giving without the expectation of anything in return. I believe to
be truly selfless you have to exhibit a quality of humility, by making a difference in the lives of others
in a positive manner. Parents have one of the most important jobs in the world, being the field of
making people is a tough job so I ve been told working three hundred sixty five days twenty four
hours seven days a week with no brakes in between must be hard. My mother who loved with her
whole being, tormented with a mental disability which caged her in the hospital for the most of my
adolescence, is a Christian woman who taught my sisters and I the values having a giving and
humility. My family and I have experienced homelessness more time than I care to admit so when my
mother saw a homeless women with her kids on the street and invited them into her home without
question, I saw how selfless services such as this can impact the even one family. Growing up in this
environment I couldn t help but to give back in the same way. My sisters and I decided that every
weekend, holiday or summer break we would show the world the love we thought it needed. So
instead of buying gifts for ourselves we cooked meals made, hygiene packages, mowed lawns,
babysat, cleaned garages for our peers elder and people who just needed a helping hand, after natural
disasters we would send clothing boxes along with non perishables to families in countries affected for

Voting Is a Right for Americans Essays
The United States of America, almost since its conception, demonstrated a shining example of what a
successful democracy should be. As citizens of a democratic country, we have the privilege to choose
our leaders and the opportunity to have our voices heard. Many countries around the world operate by
dictatorship or royal lineage. In these countries, citizens are not granted the freedom to elect officials.
Often times, these people face grave consequences if they speak out against their leaders resulting in
arrests or other penalties. You would assume, with this knowledge, that Americans hold the highest
voter participation. In a study from the 2012 Presidential Election by ABC, the number of American
citizens actively involved in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, when I cast my ballot to vote, I do so in honor of those who sacrificed and worked tirelessly to
guarantee my right as an African American and as a woman. My first official voting experience took
place during the Houston Mayoral Election of 2009. Unlike other voters young and older I developed
a strong sense with whom and what I was voting for. Mayor Bill White proudly served the city of
Houston for three terms and was tough to replace. I did my research on the candidates propositions
and paid close attention to their campaign efforts. My parents are strong advocates about the
importance of voting. They always lectured my siblings and me about how citizens determined who
got into office and how they represented the community. You had a problem, voice your concerns with
your ballot, my mom would always say. My father would often exclaim, Don t gripe and not vote. No
vote...no room for complaints.
Going off to an out of state college, I did not foresee problems faced with voting. Registration
methods vary from state to state. Across the country, college students face barriers with exercising
their voting rights. In some areas, communities debate whether students can vote as state residents or
vote absentee from their hometowns. In other areas, legislators debate whether student IDs can be
used at polls. When I participated in the 2009 Houston Mayoral Election, I

Benefits Of Aquatic Therapy For Patients With Low Back Pain
if you are suffering chronic back pain being in warm water will cause vasodilation which will help
lead blood towards the area of pain.1
Cold water can cause vasoconstriction which will help stop the blood from running to an area of acute
injury. A systematic review by Waller , Lambeck , and Daly, composed of 37 aquatic therapy studies
with 1007 participants, and picked 7 of those studies and used McGill Pain Questionnaire, Oswestry
Disability Index, the number of work days lost from low back pain, and subjective assessment scale
for pain to measure the outcomes. The SIGN 50 and PEDro scale assessment forms were used to
assess the methodological quality. The results showed that aquatic therapy has a beneficial effect on
low back pain, but, is no better than any other intervention.8 This study demonstrated that aquatic
therapy can be beneficial for patients with low back pain but are not the only intervention that can
help low back pain. A study by Baena Beato, Artero, Arroyo Morales, Robles Fuentes, Gatto Cardia,

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Phone Call

Krista asks the client s questions to find out more about who she is working with and when she
provided the documentation.
Good foreshadow to the hold.
Krista takes ownership by offering to leave a voicemail on the client s behalf, when prompted.
Krista ends the call by thanking the client for calling in.
Opportunities:
Call recording disclosure. Krista discloses the call to the wife when she first picks up. At :17 the wife
says that she will put the phone on speaker so that the husband/client can hear as well. Krista then
addresses the client, however, she does not disclose that the call is being recorded. As a best practice,
when a client advises they are putting the phone on speaker, disclose that the call is being recorded
right away. This is important for legal reasons.
Verification. After the wife explains the reason for her call, Krista asks for the phone # to pull up the

Collective Bargaining Essay
1. Does the presence of unions increase the likelihood that management will be fairer and more
consistent with employers? Management is on the side of the employers, since many of those
positions are unable to in the union (Huston, 2010, p. 294). If the manager holds a full time supervisor
position, then they aren t eligible to join the union, which in turn may upset them when the union
renegotiates their terms, and the nurses get better benefits. An example of this is that a floor supervisor
can actually make less money than that of the floor nurse, and they don t get any overtime pay (S.
Smothers, personal communication, Fall, 2009). There are two types of relations that unions can have
with management; acceptance, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. Can the need for unionization be eliminated simply by management being more attentive to worker
needs and being willing to provide employees reasonable working conditions and a voice in decision
making?
I believe that when management is threatened by a union coming, they are desperate at that moment
and would try anything to avoid it from happening. Therefore they are willing to try to negotiate with
nurses to help make them feel as though they are empowered (Huston, 2010, p. 293). However, this
may only be a momentarily gain for the nurse, because if they don t unionize management will go
back to their old practices. An article called The impact of collective bargaining published by the
American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) states decision making
authority with staff nurses without a union is exceedingly rare (2011).
Unions help to increase wages, fringe benefits, better pension plans, safety, help keep RNs and
displace other staff during layoff (if at all possible), restrict unsafe floating, and ban mandatory
overtime and shift rotation (Huston, 2010, p. 291 292, and (National Nurses United, 2010). Without a
union many of these issues would still be in play today. Plus a union will go to bat for them when
needed, which was the case in a Virginia Mason Hospital when they tried to mandate that all nursing
staff had to get immunized (Rosenbaum, 2008).

Alpha Gamma Chi Chapter At Frostburg State University
Introduction
The group that was observed was Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Alpha Gamma Chi Chapter at Frostburg
State University. This is an on campus organization/fraternity that gives its members an opportunity to
gain, foster and enhances their leadership skills. They also seek to apply leadership, friendship, and
service in their everyday lives. APO also encourages their members to be creative and think of new
opportunities for their chapter. APO was started at Lafayette College by Frank Reed Horton, Herbert
G. Horton, and H. Roes Bartle in 1925 (Horton). This organization was developed to strengthen men
in their ideals and give them leadership and service experience. The ideals that this organization was
built on were the ideals of scouting. The initial purpose of this organization was for it to be for college
men who cooperated with all youth movements and to help bring a more peaceful world through
nurturing men to have a standard of manhood, international understanding, and friendship.
The Alpha Gamma Chi Chapter at Frostburg State was created March 1993 by Jason Birzer, Jeremy
Gagliardi, Mary Grace Sylvester Gagliardi, Don Lipscomb, and Andrew Corl (History of our chapter).
These individuals had all been interested in Boy Scouts and wanted to start an organization based on
their ideals when they came across APO. In 1992, they started the petitioning process to get this
fraternity on campus. They soon gained support and were inducted on April 1992. The official

Witch s Calendar Chapter 6 Summary
Chapter Six: Witch s Calendar
Wheel of the Year festivals represents the active and passive states of nature, man and cultivation.
Each of the festival periods was ruled by a ruling deity, whether a God or Goddess, with each part
having its own related deity. From sowing to reaping to winter to summer... the seasons were of vast
importance to our ancestors, for their very survival rested on fruitful harvests, moderate winters, and
adequate rainfall.
Our days start at dusk on the preceding day. Accordingly, November 1st is really midnight of October

This is the Pagan Easter or rather, this is the day that Christians adopted to be their Easter. It is
generally the day of symmetry, neither bitter winter nor the relentless summer. In old days, Ostara was
a season of sowing and growing. Today, Ostara is a chance for setting projects into motion, sowing the
grains of ideas that may not come to fruition for many months. Decorated eggs, baskets of blossoms
and such are commonly utilized to adorn the house. As a period of symmetry, it is an excellent time to
perform self banishings and also perform workings to obtain elements we have lost, or to obtain
qualities we long to have.

The Cell Cycle And Dna Replication
Question 1:
a)
The two processes, with which a cell passes this DNA sequence onto other cells, are DNA replication
and mitosis. The cell cycle is inclusive of mitosis and DNA replication, the latter of which occurs in
the S phase (synthesis) of the cycle. The goal of the S phase is to create two identical semi
conservative chromosomes. The enzyme helicase unwinds the parental DNA double helix strand and
uses it as a template so the enzyme DNA polymerase can attach free floating nucleotides to the
separate DNA daughter strands using the complementary base pairing rule, in which A T and C G pair
together. In this way, the process of DNA replication is deemed semi conservative as one parental
strand is always passed on to daughter helix of DNA (Campbell Reece, 2005).
Now that the DNA has been replicated, mitosis can occur, which entails the cell (which now contains
two strands of identical DNA) undergoing nuclear division that results in the formation of two
genetically identical daughter cells (Tortora Grabowski, 2003). Mitosis is a process which consists of
five phases in itself; prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase/cytokinesis. The
duplicated chromosomes are now known as sister chromatids which are attached at a centre point
called a centromere. During prophase, these chromatids inside the cell condense and become tightly
coiled, and also, a mitotic spindle begins to form. In prometaphase, the nuclear membrane of the cell
fragments and one

Ivan Denisovich Satire
In the novel One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn the genre political
satire was used. The genre political satire is an important section of satire that focuses on achieving
entertainment from mocking politics which relate to our society. These types of novels help readers
reflect on their own life style and society, learning how to improve themselves. There were 3 elements
I chose which were used in this novel to display political satire. The three elements are irony, sarcasm
and parody which display this type of genre very well. The novel is about men who are put into camps
by the government and are forced to work and do whatever the commanders want them to do. They

They were put in camps and were forced to work for the government who opened the camps. They
thought they would be able to get out once they worked hard, but that never ended up happening. All
they ever got was a big yelling from the higher power as one of the elders had stated, Step out!
shouted the guard. Step out, you in front. To hell with your Step out . The zeks marched with
measured tread, hanging their heads as at a funeral. Now we ve nothing to lose: we d be the last back
anyhow. He wouldn t treat us like human bengs, now let him burst himself shouting. (Solzhenitsyn
102). This novel showed the humor in how they were given a certain amount of time to be in camps,
but they were never being let out. They were already in the camp and were given more sentences if
they did not cooperate with the higher power. For example one of the commanders had said, Well,
look out, team leader. If you go on talking like that I ll out you in the lock up with the rest, Snubnose
promised Tiurin, but mildly. (Solzhenitsyn 131). It was disappointing to see how they worked with all
their energy, but were never appreciated. This problem relates to our societies in our world for
example third world war countries where people are being forced to leave their homes and work at
camps.
The second element which was used in the novel to display political satire was sarcasm. Sarcasm is
something which is used a lot in

The Negative Consequences of Discipline
One of the fundamental responsibilities of schools is to keep its students and teachers safe from harm
and violence. Over the years, this has meant applying zero tolerance policies, which have encouraged
and led to overcriminalization and the over intervention of the juvenile justice system. This correlation
between zero tolerance measures and the justice system has been termed school to prison pipeline .
Zero tolerance has, for the most part, worked; but do we like how it has worked? Although this policy
has some benefits, its biggest flaw is that it is disproportionately applied to minorities, a trend that is
largely reflected and reinforced in policies. From a legal perspective, many questions are raised as to
the constitutionality of applying punitive disciplinary measures to students, seeing that expulsions and
suspensions prohibit and limit student access to education. Consequently, micro level disciplinary
alternatives have been developed, which aim to rehabilitate offenders rather than punish them. These
alternatives offer a balance between discipline and the risk of overcriminalization, and include
counseling, anger management sessions, victim offender mediation, and peer judiciaries. One central
question that is raised throughout this discussion is the objective of the discipline; whether
disciplinary measures should be used to punish or embarrass students, or whether it needs to reinforce
and teach them why their behavior is wrong. This then relates to the

Students with one or fewer characteristics are minimally traditional, two to three characteristics are
moderately traditional, and having four or more characteristics define highly Non Traditional students.
(Hoyt, Howell, Young Wygant 2010)
For highly Non Traditional learners there are several factors that can negatively impact their lives.
Lack of time, including child rearing and full time work that limits time and opportunity is often cited
as a major constraint. Additionally, highly Non Traditional learners are significantly less active in
campus activities and are less involved in the the general college experience. Hoyt, Howell, Young
Wygant s 2010 study found that Non Traditional students were Less likely than traditional students to
participate in other academically related activities such as organized off campus study opportunities
(10% versus 17% ) and forums, seminars, galleries, and recitals related to their major (49% versus
56%).
Student involvement on campus is viewed by higher education institutions as an important metric in
predicting academic achievement. While GPA does not assess specific learning outcomes, it can be
used as a factor to assess academic success. A study at Purdue University found that students who are
involved in student organizations having statistically higher GPAs than the general student body
(Hawkins 2010). However, this trend does not fit the findings for Non Traditional

I like older cars. Cars are one of the coolest things that were every made in my opinion. I think that
cars that are older than 1990 are better than the cars that are 1991 and newer because they are easier to

I have worked on my different new and old cars, but I think that the older cars are easier to work on.

Essay on Slave Ship
The Slave Ship by Marcus Rediker is a great fiction novel that describes the horrifying experiences of
Africans, seamen, and captains on their journey through the Middle Passage. The Middle Passage
marked the water way in the Atlantic Ocean between Africa and the Americas. The use of slaves
provided a great economy for the European countries due to the fact that these African slaves provided
free labor while cultivating sugar cane in the Caribbean and America. Rediker describes the slave
migration by saying, There exists no account of the mechanism for history s greatest forced migration,
which was in many ways the key to an entire phase of globalization (10). This tells us that African

Some Africans did not go without putting up a fight. For instance, Captain Tomba led many villagers
in burning huts and killing neighbors who cooperated with slave traders (14). He was later captured
and sent to the slave ship where he would be sold in the New World. The slaves also resisted by
refusing to eat. Most of them decided they would rather have death than to live the lifestyle on the
slave ships. The captains punished those who refused to eat by giving them lashes to the bare skin
until they decided to eat. Olaudah Equiano could be considered one of the more fortunate Africans
involved in the slave trade. Rediker uses Equiano to show how Africans were kidnapped and brought
to the slave ship. Equiano was home alone with his sister when he was snatched by a neighboring
enemy tribe. Tribes were kidnapping each other to sell to the slave traders for goods and even
weapons. Equiano was separated from his sister and sold off to merchants before actually boarding the
slave ship. He mentioned several times how he would rather die than be on the slave ship. He noticed
right away that the slave ship was equipped with nettings to prevent precisely such desperate rebellion
(109). Equiano went to the Americas and was left alone when none of the merchants purchased him.
He was sold to a captain and boarded his ship back to England. On this slave ship, he was treated

The Distribution Of The Ornate Limpet
Biology report
Aim of this investigation
The aim of this investigation is to look at the distribution of the ornate limpet, (Cellana Ornata) and
the radiate limpet (Cellana Radians) on the rocky shore. We went to the rocky shore of Sirens rocks
between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay, on Wellington s South Coast. We are studying how our chosen
organisms affect each other s distribution patterns. We sampled in the low tide zone, mid tide zone,
and high tide zone. The rocky shore we explored was 80 metre long, rocky terrain, bare rock platforms
with rock gulley s.
Description of limpets
Limpets have conical shells. The limpets that are situated higher up on the shore tend to have taller
shells than those on the lower shore. The underside of the limpet has a muscular foot on which the
limpet moves around on.
Identification of organisms
Radiate limpets are identified by their flatter shells than the ornate limpet shells. Radiate limpets can
have 20 25 smooth low radial ribs. In the North Island the ribs are more indistinct and maybe absent,
the shell has radial streaks of brown and white. In the South Island the shells are dark grey with fine
radial lines. Ornate limpets are identified by their radiating black bands with a row of white specks.
Biology of organisms
An ecological niche refers to an organism s way of life where it lives, its habitat, how it lives there and
its adaptions. The radiate limpet lives in the low tide zone of the rocky platforms whereas the ornate

Hamidiye Regiments: The Hamidiye Cavalry Regiments were established on October 20th, 1890 by
Sultan Abdul Hamid II. All the men were of Kurdish origin. According to Law, the Hamidiye Cavalry
Regiments have to have 4 or 6 Companies. The number of men in every company was no less than

Nizamiye (age 20 32), and the Redif (age 32 40). They were all registered in a book and a copy of the
registration book was kept by the regiments commander and the other copy was kept by the Central
Army which was called the General Hamidiye Military Command. In May 13, 1896 the name of the
regiments were changed to the Light Cavalry Regiment. In 1910 the Regiments were reorganized by

Worldviews Of The Self In The Golden Ass By Apuleius
Throughout this course, we have explored both ancient and contemporary worldviews that have
helped us answer the question: What is the Self ? Apuleius had a very different approach to formulate
an answer to this question then did other contemporary authors which will both be discussed in length.
To begin, Apuleius wrote a novel, The Golden Ass, which demonstrates Roman worldviews of the
self. In the book, he explains a perspective about what makes the self: experience and transformations.
Lucius, the protagonist, goes through many different changes that really shaped his character by the
end of the novel. He underwent multipart transformations that are physical, personality wise, his social
class, his beliefs, and his interests. At the beginning of The Golden Ass, Lucius internal and external
selves do not correlate. Only through his experiences and numerous transformations is he truly able to
be himself because both his internal and external selves match. This worldview is especially present in
ancient Rome because of all the wars this great city took part in that physically transformed Rome s
territory and its citizens. These experiences made Roman men physically strong, wise, powerful and
meant that they were good at warfare since they were able to conquer so many different places like
Carthage, Italy, and Greece. The men that took part in these wars came back as different people after
they had experienced war and all its casualties. There are many implications of

Rhetorical Analysis Of Dodge Ram Trucks
Dodge Ram Trucks, a division of the Chrysler Group created in 2009, focused on the public needs
with the pickup truck. In a male dominated truck industry, approximately 11% of pickup trucks in the
United States are registered to females. With such a small number of percentage of women truck
owners, Ram debuted a television advertisement. In 2015, during the 141st Kentucky Derby to appeal
to female buyers. By doing so, they inspired women to break the stereotypes, specifically the male
dominated truck industry. Through its carefully incorporated narration, Ram appeals to the courage of
women through aural and visual techniques and utilizes specific examples of females, who overcame
obstacles in their profession, to provide further inspiration and create a valuable rhetorical
commercial.
Ram s advertisement immediately begins by utilizing logos and pathos to embolden women to fight
against stereotypes. First, the commercial s narration uses a series of repetitive rhetorical questions to
inspire the audacious emotions of the audience. Ram repeats have you ever thought multiple times to
capture the female viewer s attention. This technique establishes an understanding and inviting tone
that prepares the viewer for Ram s overarching message. Next, allowing the viewer to ponder these
rhetorical questions, Ram briefly pauses the narration. Following this pause, Ram articulates their
message: You can break a stereotype and throw it into a whole nother gear. Because

How Is Carrie Alike
The movie Carrie is Like Roger Ebert claimed in his review, a spellbinding horror movie. In the film,
Carrie is the school outcast who happens to have telekinetic powers. Carrie is quite strange and it
causes her classmates detest her for her strangeness. After witnessing her in the locker room panicking
about her first period you get to see her naiveté and when you see how her classmates react to the late
bloomer you get a feel on how she s treated at school. Even though it is dubbed as a horror movie it
isn t exactly frightening till it gets to the end of the film. In the scene I m focusing on we Carrie is at
prom with her date Tyler Ross standing on stage accepting their titles as prom king and queen. The
movie gives you a feel that something

Special Educational Needs Schools Necessary For Children...
Are special educational needs schools necessary for children with profound and multiple learning
difficulties? Abstract The research undertaken for this assignment intended to highlight issues related
to inclusion in mainstream education for students with profound and multiple learning difficulties
(PMLD). The research found that John Cleveland College, a mainstream secondary school in
Leicestershire, would not be able to meet the needs of these young people and will consider the need
for staff training to improve skills and knowledge in order for this inclusive practice to become
possible. The assignment discusses the implications of studies which suggests that mainstream schools
may be able to support the progress of learners with PMLD in ways that special schools may not. The
essay reaches its conclusion by asking for a shift away from the assumption that special educational
needs schools are always the best environment for children with PMLD. Are special educational needs
schools necessary for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties? My context is that I
am an Assistant SENDCo at a Leicestershire Upper School which has approximately 1700 students on
roll with 650 in year 10 and year 11 respectively with an additional 400 in the Sixth Form. I am the
link with our local special educational needs school, we have two classrooms on our site which belong
to this school. The thirty students based in these classrooms study a varied number

Essay about Cinematography
CINEMATOGRAPHY INTRODUCTION Alice in Wonderland released in 2010 is an amazing visual
film. The movie clip I have chosen is called, Reunited . This clip is focused on the reunion of Alice
and the Mad Hatter after she thought the Mad Hatter was dead, due to the red queen wanting to take
off his head. Mia Wasikowska plays the role of Alice Kingsleigh, Johnny Depp plays the role of the
Mad Hatter, and Anne Hathaway plays the role of the white witch. The cinematography is just
amazing in this film; from the makeup, to the costumes, to the amazing visual artistic experience. The
film itself is nothing without all of the visual effects. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The World s Latest Events
Picture 60 years ago, there was only one source of information to seek out for information on the
world s latest events; the newspaper. The spreading of news was a passive relationship, with producers
distributing information down to consumers in a linear formation. There was no option for the
common citizen to instantly upload an essay or photo with their views on current world events. Today
we are much more fortunate, there has been a power shift from traditional producers; creating an
active relationship when it comes to citizens participating in the news. Whether the user is actively
uploading information themselves or reading what others have posted, there is a large jump in the
number of people who feel the need to become involved in todays happenings. With a large number of
individuals spreading updates of the worlds news there also comes advances in technology that aids
the distribution of such information. Multiple online platforms have been created to assist the public in
their ongoing quest to share information around the world.
As advances in technology rapidly grows in todays society, so does the number of ways in which we
can spread the information we are receiving. Individuals have the ability to share current events as
soon as they occur, rather than waiting for the newspaper to cover only one aspect of the news story
days after it has occurred. It s becoming more uncommon for the average person to take the time to sit
down and watch the television or read

What Are Two Different Ways To Filter Data And Reduce Data...
There are two different ways to filter data and reduce data noise: through hardware changes, through
software calculations. Hardware alterations include: grounding and shielding, difference and
instrumentation amplifiers, analog filtering, and modulation. Grounding and Shielding Noise from
environment can often be dramatically reduced by shielding, grounding, and minimizing wire lengths.
Shielding is surrounding a circuit or the wires in the circuit with a conducting material then attaching
that to ground. Environmental EM radiation can t penetrate the conductor where it gets absorbed.
Difference and Instrumentation amplifiers Any noise in transducer is bad because this is the signal that
gets amplified and interpreted by the rest of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the signal is in a high frequency, it is in a region that has less background noise, and so the
signal can be amplified without amplifying the noise. Then demodulate and record the data. The
Software methods for data acquisition are useful for instruments that are computer controlled. They
include averaging, exponential filter, and running average/moving average. Averaging It filters data by
adding together many measurements, then dividing the total by the number of measurements you
added together. The more measurements you include in the average the more noise gets removed.
There is a diminishing return though: the average of 101 measurements isn t going to be much less
noisy than the average of 100 measurements. Exponential filter it is a recursive filter. A recursive filter
is just one that calculates a new, smoothed value (yn) by using the last smoothed value (yn 1) and a
new measurement (xn): yn = w × xn + (1 w) × yn 1 The amount of smoothing is controlled by a
weighting parameter (w). The weight is a value between 0% and 100%. When the weight is high (say
90%), the filter doesn t smooth the measurements very much but responds quickly to changes. If the
weight is low (say 10%), the filter smooths the measurements a lot but doesn t respond very quickly to
changes. Running Average/Moving Average An alternative to making all the measurements at once
then averaging them is to make one measurement at a time and add it

Comparing Augustine s Imperative To The Creation Of God
1. This matters because although we cannot see God, he is there. It may seem as though God is far
away when he sitting on his throne, but as Augustine states, it is not a matter of spatial distance. WE
cannot see or feel the distance, although it is there, and while we are not physically standing with Him,
God is holding us in His hands.
2. The formlessness is so imperative to the creation of this world because it intensifies God s power.
He created so much out of nothing. Out of absolute blackness and formlessness. Without
understanding what God started with to create what he did, we cannot fully understand and imagine
His great power.
3. He inserts this bit of poetry as he writes on God s great creation as he remembers how he did not

  • 3. Gothic Forest Description I was walking up the moor on a sunny March morning, when I saw a forest in the distance. From where I was standing I could see the leaves of the forest trees dancing back and forth. I ran fast to the forest as the swaying leaves hypnotized me. Maybe too fast. I tripped over my black and white converse and tumbled down the moor. My fall got grass all over my black leggings, ripped my white t shirt, and knotted my blond hair. I looked up and I saw a sign. The sign was nearly rotted away by nature. The sign read, Shark Forest. The forest gave me a peculiar feeling as I entered. This was because there were no forest animals making noise or motion. But, I continued on walking. As, I was walking I noticed a silhouette appear across a tree. The silhouette ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Bromophenol Blue Experiment The plot that is most linear according to the line of best fit is Figure 2, f(x) = 0.00310x 0.4269 with a R^2 value of 0.9973. Comparatively, Figure 1 (zeroth reaction order) has a best fit line of f(x) = 0.00210(x) + 1.3426 with a R^2 value of 0.9094, and Figure 3 (second reaction order) has a best fit line of f(x) = 0.00550x+0.2716 with a R^2 value of 0.9559. So, my data suggests that Figure 2, rate law 1, is the most linear, and hence the correct order of reaction can be assumed first order with respect to Bromophenol blue. Thus, the slope of Figure 2 s line is 0.00310 and therefore the k value for Bromophenol blue order of reaction is the slope, or 0.0031 sec 1. However, for hydroxide in trial 1 with respect ... Also it is important to consider the spectrometers used in this lab, which had capped out above an initial absorbance of 2 and higher in the lab, which skewed all future readings since it was impossible to record from that value, which led to inaccurate readouts for the absorbance values. A major source of error was that a different volumetric pipette was used to measure the initial absorbance and in Trial 1a than the micropipette used in the other four trials. Though both volumetric pipettes were 1 mL, the possible miniscule differences between the two glassware could have created a significant difference in the tiny volumes. The experiment could have been improved by use of a UV/Vis rather than a Spec, which could improve the precision and accuracy of the measured absorbances and thus decrease the uncertainty. Additionally, measuring the absorbances for a longer duration of time so that a significant deviation from linearity could be observed could decrease the uncertainty in the reaction order with respect to Bromophenol blue. The best alternative could involve measuring manipulated concentrations directly against time instead of absorbance since the values would be in our control instead of in the machine s control, which tended to show inevitable ... • 5. Counterfeit Goods And The Global Market 2nd ECOFIN Kingdom of Belgium Counterfeit Goods in the Global Market Reducing the Frequency of Counterfeit Goods in the Global Market Introduction Despite counterfeit goods deceiving social perception, the act of manufacturing and the buying of counterfeit goods or copied products is highly destructive to the overall function of the global economy. On account of its appeal to those looking for a low risk, high profit system, many get involved in the distribution of illegal goods through source countries including China and transit countries like Egypt and Singapore, with the help of typologies such as parallel trading. Unbeknownst to the common people is the economic, environmental, and health risks that this process produces. In the sale of counterfeit goods, criminals manage to bypass tax revenues, decrease employment opportunities, exploit labor through low wages, decrease company liability, and misuse ingredients in pharmaceuticals which ultimately lead to a variety of intellectual property violations.1 Ultimately, it is in the best interest of the public to identify the tactics used by criminals in an attempt to repudiate detection, all while compromising company security and international, transborder authority. • 6. Essay On Presidential Democracy Vs Parliamentary Democracy Topic: A presidential democracy is more likely to produce strong, effective government than a parliamentary democracy. Introduction The structure of a governments and party systems are of crucial importance for the functioning and well stable effective government. In this case let s take example of United States and United Kingdom. Presidential system of United States; The United State presidential system is a system of government that features a president as the nation head of state and active chief executive authority. It is associated with the congressional system of government. In a presidential system, the central principle is that the legislative and executive branches of government should be separated. This lead to the separate election by the electorate or an electoral college of the president, who is elected to office for a fixed term of office, and can only be remove in extreme cases for gross misdemeanor by impeachment and dismissal. In addition he or she does not need to choose cabinet members from or commanding the support of a legislative majority. As with the president set term of office, the legislature also exists for a set term of office and cannot be dissolve a head schedule. In the president system, the president usually has special privileges in the enactment of legislation, namely the possession of a power of veto over legislation of bills, in some cases subject to the power of the legislature by weighed majority to override the veto. • 8. The Canterbury Tales The Canterbury Tales Corruption in the Church Chaucer lived in a time dictated by religion and religious ideas in which he uses The Canterbury Tales to show some of his views. Religion played a significant role in fourteenth century England and also in Chaucer s writing. His ideas of the Church are first seen in The Prologue, and he uses seven religious persons to show the influence of the religion in his writing. Although many of his characters appear to portray part of the corruption in the Church, he does give a small example in which one can conclude that he is speaking in praise. Chaucer makes forceful insults in his character explication. The Rule of good St. Benet or St. Maur/ As old and strict he tended to ignore (Chaucer 7.) A monk is supposed to have a strong authority in the Church, but Chaucer explains that he breaks the written laws and precedents set by people recognized as Saints and highly acclaimed people. The Monk is a lazy, disgusting man who lived a dishonest and imprudent life. The Pardoner and Summoner appear together in The Prologue. They further illustrate an example of Chaucer s awareness of a defiled Church. Chaucer provides humor to his description of the Summoner in that he d allow just for a quart of wine /Any good lad to keep a concubine (Chaucer 20.) This means that a person who disobeys the Church without seeking repentance can easily bribe the Summoner, in that he will overlook the situation. Chaucer writes about the Pardoner that by his flatteries and prevarication/ Made monkey of the priest and congregation (Chaucer 22.) This is another direct insult to the Church at the time. Although the Pardoner represents the lowly side of the Church, Chaucer balances it out with a highly appraise of the Parson. Many advantages are hypothesized to be a result of spending more time in nature such as improved memory, test scores and mood for students. A study conducted in Barcelona Spain during 2012 2013 on students between the ages of seven to ten years old yielded results that would accept the green space hypothesis. It was observed that students had a year increase in working memory and a year reduction in inattentiveness when surrounded by a green space (CITE). Plants were located at home, in the neighborhood, and in school therefore the students were constantly exposed. The study linked the positive benefit between exposure to green space and cognitive development amongst school children. • 12. Plato s Theory Of Form Plato coined the term Socratic questioning to encourage the open discussion of philosophical theory for the purpose of improving said theory. Aristotle took advantage of the practice of Socratic questioning to inquire about Plato s theory of Form and its explanation of causality in comparison to Aristotle s own theories of causality and being. Aristotle criticizes Plato s theory of Form because it only accounted for a one dimensional explanation of what things are made up of and what identifies them. Aristotle offers his own explanations of causality and being through his four causes and his categories of being in an attempt to rectify Plato s perceived failures. In Metaphysics 1.3 and 1.6 Aristotle criticizes Plato s theory of forms, specifically his accounts of causality. In order to understand why Aristotle disagrees so wholeheartedly with Plato s theories it is important to understand Aristotle s own theories on causality. Aristotle claimed that there were four causes that explain what something is, what made it exist, and why it exists. The first is the material form which accounts for the materials a thing is made of, next is the efficient form which is the force that pushes the thing into existence, the third is the formal form which is the essence or function of the thing in question, and the last is the final form which is the purpose for which the thing in question exists. We would probably still be using the abacus to count to 100 and the many inventions that we now see as the norm would not have existed if we did not conquer the practice of evaluating. The need for evaluation is correct in all careers and aspects of life, including teaching. According to Gravestock Gregor Greenleaf (2008), the U.S uses various tools to evaluate teaching, like course evaluations, in class/peer evaluations, and an indication of ground breaking approaches and techniques (Gravestock Gregor Greenleaf, 2008). In my opinion, this widens the gap between tenured and non tenured faculty and would be a disservice to both. College, especially college parties, can be a very dangerous place for women. Rates of sexual assault are extremely high on college campuses. These women likely mixed and brought their own drinks so they would know they aren t getting drugged. The men weren t worried about being drugged by drinking open solo cups of beer that were setting out in public. This is an example of male privilege. Alain Locke has been an activist for the many years of the Harlem Renaissance. He spoke forward about how the ancestors of African American referred as the Old Negros and the newer generation referred to as the New Negros took different outlooks on life. American Negros goal in life at this point in time was to change their mentality. But how? Locke had introduced many readers to the vibrant wondrous world of African Americans. He opened the eyes to what American Negros can do and not what they cannot do, no one should be restricted by any boundaries. One of his most influential writings was Enter the New Negro , its open the mind of those who have come across it. The treatment of African Americans seemed as it has changed from the 1920 to the 1930s but mistreatment still remained. At this time African American needed to convey the images left behind by their ancestors into something greater to please and uphold their legacy, not the legacy of themselves but a legacy for the African American community altogether. Locke speaks of the mistreatment when he states; The Negro, too, for his part, has idols of the tribe to smash. Another reason that the PlayStation 4 is better than the Xbox 1 is that the PlayStation 4 has a more compact and sleeker design compared to the competitor (Xbox 1). Having a more compact design means that it is better for storage and for travel for example if you 2 of 3 were to go onto a trip and you could only pack one console and games the best choice would be to pack the PlayStation 4, not to mention while also being smaller it can hold the same amount of data that the Xbox 1 can. As citizens of a democratic country, we have the privilege to choose our leaders and the opportunity to have our voices heard. Many countries around the world operate by dictatorship or royal lineage. In these countries, citizens are not granted the freedom to elect officials. Often times, these people face grave consequences if they speak out against their leaders resulting in arrests or other penalties. A systematic review by Waller , Lambeck , and Daly, composed of 37 aquatic therapy studies with 1007 participants, and picked 7 of those studies and used McGill Pain Questionnaire, Oswestry Disability Index, the number of work days lost from low back pain, and subjective assessment scale for pain to measure the outcomes. Management is on the side of the employers, since many of those positions are unable to in the union (Huston, 2010, p. 294). If the manager holds a full time supervisor position, then they aren t eligible to join the union, which in turn may upset them when the union renegotiates their terms, and the nurses get better benefits. An example of this is that a floor supervisor can actually make less money than that of the floor nurse, and they don t get any overtime pay (S. Smothers, personal communication, Fall, 2009). Can the need for unionization be eliminated simply by management being more attentive to worker needs and being willing to provide employees reasonable working conditions and a voice in decision making? I believe that when management is threatened by a union coming, they are desperate at that moment and would try anything to avoid it from happening. Therefore they are willing to try to negotiate with nurses to help make them feel as though they are empowered (Huston, 2010, p. 293). However, this may only be a momentarily gain for the nurse, because if they don t unionize management will go back to their old practices. An article called The impact of collective bargaining published by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) states decision making authority with staff nurses without a union is exceedingly rare (2011). Unions help to increase wages, fringe benefits, better pension plans, safety, help keep RNs and displace other staff during layoff (if at all possible), restrict unsafe floating, and ban mandatory overtime and shift rotation (Huston, 2010, p. 291 292, and (National Nurses United, 2010). Without a union many of these issues would still be in play today. Plus a union will go to bat for them when needed, which was the case in a Virginia Mason Hospital when they tried to mandate that all nursing staff had to get immunized (Rosenbaum, 2008). ... • 32. The Cell Cycle And Dna Replication Question 1: a) The two processes, with which a cell passes this DNA sequence onto other cells, are DNA replication and mitosis. The cell cycle is inclusive of mitosis and DNA replication, the latter of which occurs in the S phase (synthesis) of the cycle. The goal of the S phase is to create two identical semi conservative chromosomes. The enzyme helicase unwinds the parental DNA double helix strand and uses it as a template so the enzyme DNA polymerase can attach free floating nucleotides to the separate DNA daughter strands using the complementary base pairing rule, in which A T and C G pair together. In this way, the process of DNA replication is deemed semi conservative as one parental strand is always passed on to daughter helix of DNA (Campbell Reece, 2005). Now that the DNA has been replicated, mitosis can occur, which entails the cell (which now contains two strands of identical DNA) undergoing nuclear division that results in the formation of two genetically identical daughter cells (Tortora Grabowski, 2003). Mitosis is a process which consists of five phases in itself; prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase/cytokinesis. The duplicated chromosomes are now known as sister chromatids which are attached at a centre point called a centromere. During prophase, these chromatids inside the cell condense and become tightly coiled, and also, a mitotic spindle begins to form. In prometaphase, the nuclear membrane of the cell fragments and one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Negative Consequences of Discipline One of the fundamental responsibilities of schools is to keep its students and teachers safe from harm and violence. Over the years, this has meant applying zero tolerance policies, which have encouraged and led to overcriminalization and the over intervention of the juvenile justice system. This correlation between zero tolerance measures and the justice system has been termed school to prison pipeline . Zero tolerance has, for the most part, worked; but do we like how it has worked? Although this policy has some benefits, its biggest flaw is that it is disproportionately applied to minorities, a trend that is largely reflected and reinforced in policies. From a legal perspective, many questions are raised as to the constitutionality of applying punitive disciplinary measures to students, seeing that expulsions and suspensions prohibit and limit student access to education. Consequently, micro level disciplinary alternatives have been developed, which aim to rehabilitate offenders rather than punish them. These alternatives offer a balance between discipline and the risk of overcriminalization, and include counseling, anger management sessions, victim offender mediation, and peer judiciaries. One central question that is raised throughout this discussion is the objective of the discipline; whether disciplinary measures should be used to punish or embarrass students, or whether it needs to reinforce and teach them why their behavior is wrong. This then relates to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Worldviews Of The Self In The Golden Ass By Apuleius Throughout this course, we have explored both ancient and contemporary worldviews that have helped us answer the question: What is the Self ? Apuleius had a very different approach to formulate an answer to this question then did other contemporary authors which will both be discussed in length. To begin, Apuleius wrote a novel, The Golden Ass, which demonstrates Roman worldviews of the self. In the book, he explains a perspective about what makes the self: experience and transformations. Lucius, the protagonist, goes through many different changes that really shaped his character by the end of the novel. He underwent multipart transformations that are physical, personality wise, his social class, his beliefs, and his interests. At the beginning of The Golden Ass, Lucius internal and external selves do not correlate. Only through his experiences and numerous transformations is he truly able to be himself because both his internal and external selves match. This worldview is especially present in ancient Rome because of all the wars this great city took part in that physically transformed Rome s territory and its citizens. These experiences made Roman men physically strong, wise, powerful and meant that they were good at warfare since they were able to conquer so many different places like Carthage, Italy, and Greece. The men that took part in these wars came back as different people after they had experienced war and all its casualties. There are many implications of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Rhetorical Analysis Of Dodge Ram Trucks Dodge Ram Trucks, a division of the Chrysler Group created in 2009, focused on the public needs with the pickup truck. In a male dominated truck industry, approximately 11% of pickup trucks in the United States are registered to females. With such a small number of percentage of women truck owners, Ram debuted a television advertisement. In 2015, during the 141st Kentucky Derby to appeal to female buyers. By doing so, they inspired women to break the stereotypes, specifically the male dominated truck industry. Through its carefully incorporated narration, Ram appeals to the courage of women through aural and visual techniques and utilizes specific examples of females, who overcame obstacles in their profession, to provide further inspiration and create a valuable rhetorical commercial. Ram s advertisement immediately begins by utilizing logos and pathos to embolden women to fight against stereotypes. First, the commercial s narration uses a series of repetitive rhetorical questions to inspire the audacious emotions of the audience. Ram repeats have you ever thought multiple times to capture the female viewer s attention. This technique establishes an understanding and inviting tone that prepares the viewer for Ram s overarching message. Next, allowing the viewer to ponder these rhetorical questions, Ram briefly pauses the narration. Following this pause, Ram articulates their message: You can break a stereotype and throw it into a whole nother gear. Because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Carrie is quite strange and it causes her classmates detest her for her strangeness. After witnessing her in the locker room panicking about her first period you get to see her naiveté and when you see how her classmates react to the late bloomer you get a feel on how she s treated at school. Even though it is dubbed as a horror movie it isn t exactly frightening till it gets to the end of the film. In the scene I m focusing on we Carrie is at prom with her date Tyler Ross standing on stage accepting their titles as prom king and queen. The movie gives you a feel that something ... • 46. Special Educational Needs Schools Necessary For Children... Are special educational needs schools necessary for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties? Abstract The research undertaken for this assignment intended to highlight issues related to inclusion in mainstream education for students with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). The research found that John Cleveland College, a mainstream secondary school in Leicestershire, would not be able to meet the needs of these young people and will consider the need for staff training to improve skills and knowledge in order for this inclusive practice to become possible. The assignment discusses the implications of studies which suggests that mainstream schools may be able to support the progress of learners with PMLD in ways that special schools may not. The essay reaches its conclusion by asking for a shift away from the assumption that special educational needs schools are always the best environment for children with PMLD. Are special educational needs schools necessary for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties? My context is that I am an Assistant SENDCo at a Leicestershire Upper School which has approximately 1700 students on roll with 650 in year 10 and year 11 respectively with an additional 400 in the Sixth Form. I am the link with our local special educational needs school, we have two classrooms on our site which belong to this school. The thirty students based in these classrooms study a varied number ... • 48. The World s Latest Events Picture 60 years ago, there was only one source of information to seek out for information on the world s latest events; the newspaper. The spreading of news was a passive relationship, with producers distributing information down to consumers in a linear formation. There was no option for the common citizen to instantly upload an essay or photo with their views on current world events. Today we are much more fortunate, there has been a power shift from traditional producers; creating an active relationship when it comes to citizens participating in the news. Whether the user is actively uploading information themselves or reading what others have posted, there is a large jump in the number of people who feel the need to become involved in todays happenings. With a large number of individuals spreading updates of the worlds news there also comes advances in technology that aids the distribution of such information. Multiple online platforms have been created to assist the public in their ongoing quest to share information around the world. As advances in technology rapidly grows in todays society, so does the number of ways in which we can spread the information we are receiving. Individuals have the ability to share current events as soon as they occur, rather than waiting for the newspaper to cover only one aspect of the news story days after it has occurred. It s becoming more uncommon for the average person to take the time to sit down and watch the television or read ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. What Are Two Different Ways To Filter Data And Reduce Data... There are two different ways to filter data and reduce data noise: through hardware changes, through software calculations. Hardware alterations include: grounding and shielding, difference and instrumentation amplifiers, analog filtering, and modulation. Grounding and Shielding Noise from environment can often be dramatically reduced by shielding, grounding, and minimizing wire lengths. Shielding is surrounding a circuit or the wires in the circuit with a conducting material then attaching that to ground. Environmental EM radiation can t penetrate the conductor where it gets absorbed. Difference and Instrumentation amplifiers Any noise in transducer is bad because this is the signal that gets amplified and interpreted by the rest of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the signal is in a high frequency, it is in a region that has less background noise, and so the signal can be amplified without amplifying the noise. Then demodulate and record the data. The Software methods for data acquisition are useful for instruments that are computer controlled. They include averaging, exponential filter, and running average/moving average. Averaging It filters data by adding together many measurements, then dividing the total by the number of measurements you added together. The more measurements you include in the average the more noise gets removed. There is a diminishing return though: the average of 101 measurements isn t going to be much less noisy than the average of 100 measurements. Exponential filter it is a recursive filter. A recursive filter is just one that calculates a new, smoothed value (yn) by using the last smoothed value (yn 1) and a new measurement (xn): yn = w × xn + (1 w) × yn 1 The amount of smoothing is controlled by a weighting parameter (w). The weight is a value between 0% and 100%. When the weight is high (say 90%), the filter doesn t smooth the measurements very much but responds quickly to changes. If the weight is low (say 10%), the filter smooths the measurements a lot but doesn t respond very quickly to changes. Running Average/Moving Average An alternative to making all the measurements at once then averaging them is to make one measurement at a time and add it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Comparing Augustine s Imperative To The Creation Of God 1. This matters because although we cannot see God, he is there. It may seem as though God is far away when he sitting on his throne, but as Augustine states, it is not a matter of spatial distance. WE cannot see or feel the distance, although it is there, and while we are not physically standing with Him, God is holding us in His hands. 2. The formlessness is so imperative to the creation of this world because it intensifies God s power. He created so much out of nothing. Out of absolute blackness and formlessness. Without understanding what God started with to create what he did, we cannot fully understand and imagine His great power. 3. He inserts this bit of poetry as he writes on God s great creation as he remembers how he did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
