• Communication is a word of Latin
origin.”Communis”, which means common, it
means sharing of information or intelligence.
It is sharing ideas, thought, facts, opinion,
information and understanding from one
person to another.

• Verbal communication: In this case of verbal
communication everything is oral and there is

• Written communication: It is always in black
and white

• Formal communication: Are mostly in black &
white. It derive their support from the formal
organisational structure.
• Informal communication: On the other hand
are free from all sorts of formalities. They are
based on the informal relationship between
the parties.
7. On the basis of direction
• Upward: Reaction & suggestion from employee,
their grievances, etc. Helps in motivation of
employee.
• Downward: It flows from the uppermost level of
management towards the operative force. It
include rules & regulation, orders, policies,
instruction, guidelines.
• Horizontal: It is lateral or crosswise
communication, if it takes place between two
subordinates of the same superior.
