This document discusses the concept of diversity and its benefits to society. It defines diversity as acknowledging and respecting differences between groups of people. The document notes that Britain has a rich culture because its people come from many different backgrounds and cultures. However, it also acknowledges that a diverse society can lead to tensions, like unrest, that are often actually due to issues like poverty and inequality rather than cultural clashes. To fully benefit from diversity, a multicultural society must address economic inequality so that all groups feel included and that no single culture is treated as dominant.
