Discrimination in the Workplace
O The business environment in the 21st century is vastly more
diverse then years past; however, there are still issues of
discrimination within the workplace.
O Some forms of discrimination:
O Race
O Age
O Sex
O Disability
O Religion
O National Origin
O Pay
Discrimination in the Workplace
O The article goes into detail concerning areas that people
feel discriminated in within the workplace.
O It also provides ways on how a business can create
training to combat discrimination within the workplace.
O All in all workplace discrimination is a real thing. Laws
are in place, but businesses still to have work on the
unethical subtle ways it can creep in.
Discrimination in the Workplace
O According to the EEOC, employees filed over 90,000
charges of discrimination against employers in 2016. Of
those, approximately one-third included an allegation of
workplace harassment. And, the actual cases behind
these numbers reveal that many people – including
teenagers, people with intellectual disabilities, and
others – still experience hostile working conditions,
notwithstanding well-established laws prohibiting this
conduct(Beemer, 2017).

O The information that Jeffery Beemer made in his article are issues that
businesses in 21st century must deal with on a daily.
O Issues on race is still one of the highest matters of discrimination that
still hinders many businesses.
O Almost all of the black people who responded — 92 percent — said they
felt that discrimination against African-Americans exists in America
today. At least half said they had personally experienced racial
discrimination in being paid equally or promoted at work (Demby, 2017).

O As the world gets smaller with the advancement of technology
dealing with discrimination in an ethical way is important.
O Laws are in place to prevent from discrimination, but the
problems still occur because people can be unethical with their
views.
O Discrimination is not always obvious to see.
O Training personal and managers on the signs of discrimination.
O Having a strong policy in place that is current to todays working
environment.

O The journal article gives a few examples of how to combat
discrimination:
O Create an effective discrimination policy.
O Train employees on a regularly basis.
O Conduct prompt thorough investigations.
O Conduct investigation using a clear process.
O Engaging in regular training will help the business not just avoid
lawsuits, but create a positive work environment for people to
succeed.
