Brain-based learning
- Is an approach to teaching

based on research in
neuroscience. It suggests that
our brain learns naturally. This
theory is based on what is
currently known about the
structure and function of the
brain at the varying stages of
development.
Brain-based learning
Includes an eclectic mix of
techniques. It encompasses
education concepts like mastery
learning, problem-based
learning, cooperative
education, multiple
intelligences, learning
styles, experiential learning.
Core Principles in Guiding
Brain-Based Education

1. The brain perceives whole
and parts simultaneously.
2. The brain is a parallel
processor which can perform
activities at once.
Core Principles in Guiding BrainBased Education

3. Information is stored in
multiple areas of the brain
and is retrieved through
multiple memory and neural
path ways.
Core Principles in Guiding
Brain-Based Education
4. Learning engages the whole
body. All learning is mind-body:
movement, food, attention
cycles, chemicals modulate
learning.
5. Humans’ search for meaning
is innate.
Core Principles in Guiding
Brain-Based Education
6. Search for meaning
comes from patterning.
7. Emotions are critical to
patterning and drive our
attention, meaning and
memory.
Core Principles in Guiding
Brain-Based Education
8. Meaning is more
important than
information.

9. Learning involves
focused attention and
peripheral perception.
Core Principles in Guiding
Brain-Based Education

10. We have two types of
memory: spatial and rote.
11. The brain is social. It
develops better in concert
with other brains.
Core Principles in Guiding
Brain-Based Education
12. Complex learning is
enhanced by challenge and
inhibited by stress.
13. Every brain is uniquely
organized.
14. Learning is developmental.
Principles that will
enhance learning
1. Need of rich
stimulating
environments w/c
utilize students’
created materials
and products.
Principles that will enhance
learning
2. Tables and desks are
group together to develop
social interactions,
cooperation and develop
social skills.
Principles that will
enhance learning
3. Indoor and
outdoor spaces
should be linked
so that the
students can
move about freely.
Principles that will
enhance learning
4. Learners should
be provided safe
places so that
threat will be
reduced, especially
in city places.
Principles that will
enhance learning
5. There must be a
variety of learning
centers or nooks with
varied lightings. Some
children prefer to work
together in different
nooks or corners by
themselves.
Principles that will
enhance learning
6. Displays in the
classrooms should
be changed
regularly to
stimulate the brain
development.
Principles that will
enhance learning
7. Provide
multiple
resources. The
goal of the facility
is multiple
functions.
Principles that will
enhance learning
8. Active and passive
places should be
provided for
students to develop
their interpersonal
and intrapersonal
intelligences.
Principles that will
enhance learning
9. Flexibility is a
principle that has
been recognized
long before. The
“teachable moment”
must be recognized
and capitalized on.
Principles that will
enhance learning
10. A personal space of
learners like lockers,
desk or home base is
provided to allow
him/her to express
his/her unique
identity.
Principles that will
enhance learning
11. The
community is
utilized as the
primary learning
environment.
Principles that will
enhance learning
12. The brain can
grow connections
at any age.
Optimizing
learning through
different media.
Thank you and God Bless.
