My Brother Sam Is Dead
My Brother Sam is Dead My Brother Sam is Dead is a young adult historical fiction by James Lincoln

Revolution. Sam would steal his father s gun for the war. Sam is a patriot and fought in the
Revolutionary War. His father is a Loyalist and against Sam fighting in the Revolutionary War. Events
that happen in the book are Lexington and Concord (April 19, 1775), Battle of Bunker Hill (June 17,

This is one of the key elements of the company s Stars, or Special Thanks and Recognition Systems
programme. Since its launch three years ago, the globally acclaimed model has triggered soaring
employee satisfaction scores, besides numerous employee suggestions and innovations, many of
which are best practices today. Whether it s an indigenously manufactured bathroom mat or a new
chemical for the laundry, every idea is big and shared across the hotel chain, says Mr Martyris. It has
shattered the myth that only people at the top are creatively inclined. There is a huge reservoir of
innovation waiting to be tapped among all levels of employees. The success of the earlier programme
led Indian Hotels to introduce Stars Plus , a spin off for its service providers, and Joy at the Workplace
, which is aimed at team building and bringing cheer to the office. From celebrating birthdays to
organising cricket matches between the various Taj properties, the objective is to keep employees
motivated. Instead of major initiatives, HR is engaging in small but innovative activities which might
appear mundane but make the employee feel at home while at work. The human factor HR has also
discovered the lost art of listening. Employee satisfaction surveys and primary mood reflectors within
the organisation have become sacred. This helps in

The Link Between Nazi Propaganda And The Holocaust Essay
Hitler believed that propaganda from the allies was the main reason that the Germans lost during
World War I and felt that this form of warfare needed to be a primary tool in modern warfare. He
spoke of this belief in his book Mein Kampf well before the start of the second World War. Hitler felt
that the public needed to be inundated with the ideology of the state at all times and through all
mediums (Jowett and O Donnell 2). To do this, he said everything from child s story book to the last
newspaper, every theater, every cinema and every advertisement must be brought into the service of
this single mission (qt. in Qualter ix). This onslaught of propaganda led to the Holocaust by leaving no
other option open to the German people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Nazi s did use propaganda in this negative sense but in an underhanded and subversive way. They
backed up all their false reports with scientific studies and claims of a better human race.
Propaganda is hard to define as most definitions do not cover the full meaning of the word. The
Webster s Illustrated Encyclopedic Dictionary defines propaganda as the systematic propagation or
discrediting of a given doctrine or cause by circulation of polemical material, such as posters and
leaflets (1353). However, this definition does not cover the full scope of the of the word. Terence
Qualter also feels the definition for propaganda needs to be more refined for its new usage. The
definition that he gives is the deliberate attempt...(to) form, control, or alter the attitudes of other
groups...(with) the use of the instruments of communication (27 28). He goes on to say that the
propaganda must be aimed at the group in general because that is the basic nature of the word, in that
the most effective propaganda is the propaganda which has a large audience. Qualter does mention,
however, that there need be no difference in the propaganda to persuade one and the propaganda to
persuade the many (28). Germany did this by controlling the flow of information into the country.

Essay On Calpurnia As A Mother Figure
I am reading To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee and I am on page 207. This book is about Atticus
gets a trial of a black man and the whole town hates it. Jem and Scout are growing up. Aunt Alexandra
does not like how Atticus raises these children so she comes to move in and help. In this paper I will
be evaluating.
I will be evaluating that Calpurnia is a better mother figure than Aunt Alexandra. There are many
reasons that Calpurnia is a better mother figure than Aunt Alexandra. One reason is that Calpurnia
brought Jem and Scout to church with her. Calpurnia had asked them if they would like to attend
church with her, they happily said yes. Bringing them to church with her really shows Calpurnia s love
for these children because although they are not her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Calpurnia has lots of courage bring white children to her black church. People at her church would ask
her why she is bringing white children in this church but she would tell them that they behave and that
she takes quality care of Jem and Scout. Calpurnia would not be judged by the fact that she was
bringing white children inti her church she just held her head up high. She brought them to her Church
because she truly loves Jem and Scout and knows her church is a good one, so she wants them to learn
good faith. Another reason Calpurnia is a better mother figure than Aunt Alexandra is because
Calpurnia tells Scout she can always come in the kitchen if Jem is being mean to her. Calpurnia knows
that Jem is getting older and that at times he can be very mean so when this happens she tells Scout
she can always come in the kitchen. Calpurnia really loves Scout and is happy to always cheer her up
and bond with her in the kitchen. When Scout can be sad her long talks with Calpurnia can cheer her
up, it makes Calpurnia feel good to cheer Scout up also. There kitchen talks lead to crying, laughing,

Cultural Diversity For A Haitian Client
Cultural Diversity Assignment Haitian Every year a large group of Haitians come into the United
States and may become a part of the health care system. In the challenging field of nursing, nurses
need to be aware of cultural differences and should provide each client with cultural competent care.
Each and every year, Haitians enter this country legally and illegally but regardless of how they enter
the US, it is inevitable that they will need to be cared for at some time in their life. The astute nurse
must understand the need for cultural sensitivity and what to assess for prior to providing care for a
Haitian client. The assessment should include communication barriers, orientation of time, health
beliefs, health risks, and even more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Depending on social class, the Haitian client can either be future oriented or past and present oriented.
The time orientation of the client will determine if they are going to be more inclined or less inclined
to follow treatment regimens. When providing culturally competent health care for the Haitian client,
the nurse must recognize the nontraditional health beliefs of the client and the health practices that
arise as a result. In addition, the nurse must also maintain a nonjudgmental attitude about these beliefs.
The nurse should incorporate Haitian folk practices into the treatment plans as long as they are not
harmful and desired by the client. Folk medicine and treatments can be used in addition to traditional
western health treatments. The nurse must also be aware of the health risks of Haitian Americans
when providing care. According to Holcomb (1996), sexually transmitted diseases, cancer, and
tuberculosis are the most common health conditions affecting Haitians and Haitian Americans (p.
257). With that being said, the nurse should teach the Haitian client about the importance of primary
prevention and how it is a valuable component of a healthy lifestyle. Pregnancy care in the Haitian
client is another aspect of nursing. Haitian women do not seek out prenatal care, which can be
troublesome with having a healthy pregnancy. It is estimated that 80% of pregnant women in Haiti

Compare and Contrast “University” and “Warren Pryor” Essay
Compare and Contrast University and Warren Pryor
Liam Wong, Kevin Chiu, Dennis Wong
Block D. Ms. Fuller Dec. 4th
Why is education important to society? Would one be able to read without a successful teacher
teaching one how to read? Education is a key that holds the ability to open many doors doors which
open into vast rooms of knowledge, love, experience, discovery, and dreams. Education is an essential
to human living and a fulfilling life, but what happens when the path one takes is not the choice that
one personally wants? In University , written by Leona Gom, and Warren Pryor , written by Alden
Nowlan, the poems present both negative and positive effects of education on society.
The good intentions of the parents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, the characters possess different views regarding the effects of education. In University , the
protagonist believes that he has become more educated compared to his parents, while in Warren
Pryor , the protagonist feels as if education has degraded him. Warren Pryor describes himself as a
young bear inside his teller s cage . His job as a bank teller restricts him from what he really wishes to
do; he wants to assist his parents on the farm. In contrast, the protagonist of University feels that the
day [he] left, [he] began to believe it. [His] knowledge fits [his] hands like a manicure too expensive
to soil with the fact of these farms . The protagonist describes how farm life is now inferior to his
educated mind. However, education also affects the parents of the protagonists. When the parents of
Warren witnessed him in his new job, they blushed with pride. They marveled... He was saved from
their thistle strewn farm and its red dirt . Warren s parents were completely overwhelmed with joy at
their son s success in life, but were unaware of the fact that Warren was actually unsatisfied with his
current lifestyle. The parents are not as concerned if Warren becomes distant from them due to the
sacrifices that they have made to give Warren education. In contrast, the protagonist s parents in

Critical Concepts Of Middle Adulthood
There are many emotions that coincide with middle adulthood. Three of the most critical concepts of
middle adulthood are midlife crisis, empty nest syndrome, and sandwich generation. Each concept and
stage are apparent in many people around the age 42 45 and can last from 2 5 years. However, these
ages can fluctuate for various environmental reasons and circumstances. Also, this can have gender
and culture variations that can affect the age and longevity. A midlife crisis is the event that happens in
a person 40 s where an emotional crisis occurs that involves identity, confidence, and depression.
Midlife crisis typically occurs because of external factors, these external factors can arise from

The sandwich generation is when an adult is not only taking care of their own children, but also their
parents. In many cultures such as Asian tradition taking care of your parents is required and a mark of
adulthood. The generation is typically between the ages of 30 and 55. This number is so widely raged
because many environmental circumstance depend upon it. People in this stage may become stressed,
depressed, and have a loss of identity. Also, people in this generation have to be very patient and
empathetic towards others to withstand the difficulties and responsibilities of being in a sandwich
generation situation. As life expectancy is increasing this is much more common. It is very common in
developing countries because families are financially dependent on each other and may even live in
the same household. Sandwich generations are becoming more common throughout all

The Evacuation At Dunkirk Essay
Do you agree with this interpretation of Dunkirk? In this essay, I am going to explain a painting of
Dunkirk, which was painted by a British painter in 1940. The artist, who painted the picture, was
called Charles Cundall. He was sent by the British government to paint a picture about The
Evacuation at Dunkirk. His main aim for painting this picture was to make Germany look bad and
Britain look good. Therefore he had a reason to paint the picture as he was British himself. By looking
at the picture I predict that he would not have been sitting in the battle field whilst the war is going of
as we would have been exploded to pieces. He could have painted the picture from what he would
have remembered whilst this battle was going on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The little ships in the picture are accurate as many on the ships would be fleeing from the shore into
open sea water. We can see many bombs in the picture being fired out at sea. This is an element of
reason that is needed to show the public that bombs were used by the Germans to try and stop the
British from escaping. Big boats are also seen fleeing alongside the small boats. We see the big boat
which is leaving the shore, of Dunkirk. There are many in accurate points about the sea. The big boats
are shown too close to the shore. This would be in accurate as when the big boats were to move they
would get stuck due to the sand of the shore. We can see the water at Dunkirk is very shallow, which
would mean that boats would have to be at least miles away from shore in order for them to move.
The artist Charles Cundall painted this on purpose to show British people, how the Germans stopped
boats from being fled out to sea. This again would be propaganda as it shows British public how bad
the Germans really are. The ships out at sea would at least have been sunk where as in the picture we
see only one small ship being sunk. In reality three or four ship would have been sunk as soldiers were
stopped from fleeing. The last part of the picture I am going to analyse is the sky. Again there are
some accurate and in accurate parts about the sky. Some

Compare And Contrast A Barred Owl And The History Teacher
It s the dead of the night and the shrieking calls of a barred owl break the silence. A young child bolts
upright in bed with fear written across her innocent face. A teacher s class is about to be taught a
lesson on The Ice Age. The parents of the frightened child hush their daughter and say it was just an
inquisitive owl that scared her awake. The teacher pulls on a sweater and says, Cavemen wore these a
lot in The Ice Age. The children in these scenarios are the victims of deceit. Both poems, A Barred
Owl and The History Teacher by Richard Wilbur and Billy Collins show the effects of not exposing
children to the truth early on in life. The parent and teacher mentioned are only concerned about their
children s innocence remaining intact, and they don t take into consideration how sheltering them
from the truth life holds will affect the children s minds. Wilbur and Collins ... Show more content on

When the child was put to bed, the sky was probably not as dark as it was when she was woken by the
owl. Wilbur s words reveal this when the poem begins on a lighter note than the gruesome ending. An
owl has eyes that are much larger than those of the child mentioned. That being said, this barred owl
can clearly see the world and the life around him. The child cannot due to the fact that her parents are
preventing her from such exposure. Innocent minds deserve a healthy dose of reality provided in the
form of truthful explanations from the adults in their lives. The poem, The History Teacher leans
towards a more playful and bright tone than the tone Wilbur used in A Barred Owl. It almost sounds
ironic that Collins titled the poem, The History Teacher because when spoken in a sarcastic tone it
sounds like he s mocking the teacher. He calls him a history teacher sarcastically because the poet
agrees with the fact that this teacher isn t actually teaching history. He s feeding the children

Vincent s Cappuccino Express Case Study
Vincent s Cappuccino Express Case Study.
a) What factors can be expected to have major impact on the future success of the Cappuccino
Express? Classify these factors in the categories of quality, cost, and time.
Quality factors
Thinking about quality factors, I d like to break them down into several categories. I don t know if
there are generally accepted definitions for them, so I will call them: appearance factors, product
factors and customer experience factors. Let s talk about them in details.
Appearance quality factors are the factors that can attract the customers to your business (or push
away), make the overall experience with your business more pleasant, and perhaps, even differentiate
your business from competition. I include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion, Vincent has been pretty successful so far because of the very high product profit
margin and lack of competition. It cost only about 6 cents to make a cup of regular coffee (cappuccino
probably slightly more). But what if there was Dunkin Donuts around the corner? It would be
interesting to see that development.
b) Describe the work process relationships that are important for satisfying the customers of the
Cappuccino Express.
I believe that relationship with customers begins from the moment customer drives in the parking lot
or, like in this case, pulls into the driveway of the drive through. The most important thing at this stage
of relationship with customer is for him to like the place and wanting to do the business there or to be
served there, as in our case. As I have mentioned before, in many instances (especially in food
industry) customer makes his decision whether to get that cup of coffee here or elsewhere using his
judgment on appearance, neatness and cleanness of the place. If these three things fail the customer,
there will be no relationship of any kind in a future.
Next stage is actually dealing with the customer. Simple but sincere greeting to start this process will
do. One of the most important component (if not the most important one) in the work process
relationship, that,

My Love With Reading Analysis
The first time I ever fell in love with reading was when I was 10 years old. I feel like that maybe a
little late in the game, but my parents never really read to my sister and me while we were growing up.
I never truly had that, wow moment with a book just yet. My father was in the Army and was
deployed a lot and my mom worked or tried to stay busy so she would not miss him. Reading wasn t
on the top of their to do list and at the time, it wasn t on the top of mine. We were busy exploring new
cultures and new places that other people could only dream of. I had been to France, Italy, Czech, and
many other European countries before I was old enough to retain where I was and what I was
experiencing. Oh, but that faithful day in my 5th grade class when reading evaluations came through, I
had scored an 8th grade reading level. I was so excited when I showed my parents the evaluation, not
because I loved to read and was having one of those, look what reading has given me moments. I just
felt smart. We went to the library the next day in school to find books that were in our reading levels. I
was a little intimidated at first, the books for 8th graders were superior to what I was used to reading. I
was going to Soldier on as my father said and check out one of those huge and almost frightening
looking books. I mean just because I could read at an 8th grade level didn t mean I had to, right? Yes, I
had to, I had to see what was out there for me in the terms of literature. I

Stakeholder Management Plan For Managing Stakeholder
1. MANAGING STAKEHOLDER EXPECTATIONS
1.1. DEFINITION OF A STAKEHOLDER
Before we go in depth into managing stakeholder expectations, we need to know what exactly a
stakeholder means in terms of project management.
Project stakeholders are individuals and organizations that are actively involved in the project, or
whose interests may be affected as a result of project execution or project completion. They may also
exert influence over the project s objectives and outcomes.
1.2. STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT PLAN
In order to manage stakeholder expectations, it is important to follow a well designed plan that can tell

Ability to impact the project
Ability to enhance the project
Ability to remove impediments
Ability to lead opinions

insurance firm, and some of the stakeholders whom we have identified are:
1. Underwriters (Drafting business proposals for the insurer)
2. Insurance agents
3. Zonal managers
4. Regional managers
5. Investment analyst
6. Claims analyst
7. Fraud analyst
1.2.2. ANALYZE STAKEHOLDERS Figure 1: Stakeholder Management Matrix
Figure 1 shows a basic framework that can be used to manage stakeholders based on interest and
influence. In the figure, the power on the Y axis can also be referred to as Influence and the Interest on
the X axis can be referred to as Availability .
There are 4 phases in the stakeholder management matrix :
Manage Closely
Keep Satisfied
Keep Informed
Monitor (minimum effort)
The people who fall in the phase Manage Closely are people who have high influence and high
interest. They are business owners and others with significant decision making authority and power to
kill, sustain or nurture the project.
It is the project manager s responsibility to set up consistent touch points with these stakeholders and
make sure they are happy.

Boston Marathon Bombing Analysis
The bombing of the Boston Marathon is one of the least deadly terrorist attacks against our county, but
has brought to light many lessons that need to be learned. The Boston Marathon Bombing took place
on April 15, 2013 at 1449 hours. Two men planted bombs near the finish line of the event which killed
three spectators and wounded 260 others. The bombs were pressure cooker bombs packed with
shrapnel and other materials hidden in backpacks that were maliciously placed amidst the crowd

located in Copley Square just beyond the finish line. This tent had enhanced medical capabilities to

A Brief Note On Book The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
Sarah Jane Reshetiloff
Mr. O Hearn
Honors British Literature
26 September 2015
Social Satire in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Mark Twain s novel The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn is a masterful social satire that demonstrates the awakening of a young, adventurous
boy living in a culture of slavery.
He uses humor and an unreliable narrator to convey social satire in the novel to reflect the flaws of
society toward in the antebellum south.
The novel was published in 1884, just after slavery was abolished in 1865. Needless to say, racism
was prevalent and although slavery was outlawed, colored people did not have equal rights to white
people. African Americans across the country were still treated disrespectfully, beaten, and often
murdered. With the outlawing of slavery in the south, racism was much more common there than in
the north. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn takes place on the Mississippi River along Missouri
and other various southern states.
In the story, Huck Finn is a young boy who seeks adventures and does not wish to be civilized by the
women in charge of him. He sets out on a journey to help free a slave named Jim, in a time period
where slavery is legal in the south. They encounter many obstacles such as other characters, means of
transportation, the possibility of getting caught, and also the war Huck is at with himself. He battles
over whether he is doing the right thing. He feels that freeing Jim is morally correct but because of the

Mass Conservation Within a Ziplock Bag
Question
Does a controlled (closed system) Ziplock bag experiment demonstrate the Law of Conservation of
Mass?
Claim
According to the Law of Conservation of Mass inside a controlled system, mass cannot be created nor
destroyed, only transformed. This statement is accurate, however, a human error occurred when I
performed this experiment. According to my data in the Ziplock bag experiment, the information I
collected did not support the Law of Conservation of Mass.
Evidence
Throughout the Ziplock bag experiment, the Law of Conservation of Mass was present in 50% of the
ten groups ( five out of the ten groups). To collect the mass of everything, the first direction was to
take the mass of the materials used in the experiment. For the Law of Conservation of Mass to be
activated, the Ziplock bag needed to be closed. If a gas was to be formed, no mass would be created
nor destroyed because in a closed or controlled system nothing is able to escape. Based on the four
pieces of data I collected in my data table, the mass of 75% of my data before and after the experiment
stayed the same. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
50% of the group s experiments did not follow the Law of Conservation of Mass because of human
error. For an explanation of why the mass was changed could be as easily explained as not closing the
Ziplock bag or not measuring the materials exactly. When I performed this experiment, I did not add
the correct weights together. Therefore, this resulted in the before and after mass to not be equivalent
and not following the Law of Conservation of Mass. For the 50% of the experiments that did represent
the Law of Conservation of Mass, the mass stayed the same throughout the entire experiment. For
example, Brooke and Lily s mass of their reactants was 32.3 grams. Likewise, after their experiment
was performed the mass was also 32.3

My Most Defining Moment Analysis
It seems to me that our most defining moments happen on the most ordinary of days. What starts out
as yet another day at the office or at school, can hold some of the most radical changes to our lives,
and I think that is part of God s amazing power and beauty. We could be doing something we had done
hundreds of times before, in my case, playing soccer. I took a ball to the upper right side of my face,
around my eye, and the events that ensued helped me to realize God s plans for my future degree path
and thus, the rest of my life. My memories from the moments immediately following the hit contradict
slightly with those from my teammates and parents. While I thought I felt fine and just squatted for a
moment to clear my head before jogging off the field at my coach s call, everyone else says I was very
unsteady and fell a few times before walking off slowly. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If I couldn t bike, I sat there and watched the student trainers learn how to tape toes and ankles, or I
watched my fellow teammates recover from ACL tears or pulled muscles. The entire process of injury
recovery was and is deeply fascinating to me. Understanding how our muscles and ligaments repair
themselves and are strengthened through rehabilitation is now something I crave. I was told that the
nerve cells in my brain will not regenerate, and that in more serious concussions than mine, such as
when a person loses the ability to walk or speak, their brain reprograms itself to do these things via a
different neural pathway. However, in order for the brain to reprogram itself, somebody has to be there
to help the person along. Watching my teammates scoot themselves across the training room using just
their legs after tearing their ACL, I wondered what good that could possibly be

Evaluation Of A Research On Formative Feedback
3. Reviews/Commentaries
Shute,V. (2008). Focus on formative feedback. Review of Educational Research, 78(1), 153 189.
Shute conducts an extensive literature review of the research on formative feedback because despite
extensive investigation, the author proposes, is still misunderstood due to conflicting findings and
inconsistent pattern results. The focus of this review is that feedback must be delivered correctly to be
effective. Therefore, Shute offers a twofold proposal: to understand the features, functions, and
interactions of feedback in relation to learning and to use the findings to create guidelines for
generating effective formative feedback.
The focus of this study is primarily on performing tasks and the identified issues are several. Correct
delivery of feedback is defined and guidelines are proposed since most research on this subject
concludes that feedback can enhance learning considerably if delivered correctly. The interaction of
task and student characteristics is investigated to address the major gaps in understanding that still
exist, inclusively, instructional context in the efficiency of feedback.
The author defines formative feedback (FF) as information intended to change a student s thinking or
behavior to improve learning. It ought to be specific, helpful, timely, and not judgmental. Types of FF
are: confirmation of a correct answer, clarification of the accurate response, clues, and work examples.
Previous research by Swam (1983) found that

Historical And Cultural Context In The Great Gatsby By F....
Contexts often help readers to understand and perceive the text the way it was intended by the author
to be perceived. When studying any piece of literature, it is important that there is a basic
understanding of historical and cultural contexts since it plays a crucial part in enhancing the reader s
interpretation or reading of the text. A reader s knowledge and understanding of historical and cultural
contexts can influence and enhance their interpretation of F. Scott Fitzgerald s famous classic novel,
The Great Gatsby. A basic understanding of American historical and cultural contexts such as the
Prohibition era, the Jazz Age, Cornelius Vanderbilt and the American Dream, allows a reader to
interpret The Great Gatsby as a text that captures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Understanding the Prohibition era, the prosperity it brought, and it s effects on the American society
during the 1920s enhances my interpretation of The Great Gatsby. Having knowledge about the
Prohibition era allows me to experience the novel through a lens that shows how Fitzgerald portrayed
the 1920s as a time of decayed values. The Prohibition era, dated between mid 1920 to early 1933,
was period in American history when the manufacture, transportation and sale of intoxicating liquors
were banned and forbidden because of the increase in violence and illegal activities. During the
Prohibition, there was a sudden rise in capitalism through illegal sale and production of liquor, which
is known as bootlegging . The character of Jay Gatsby is an example of how Fitzgerald depicted the
decayed values of the 1920s. In the novel, Tom Buchanan accused Gatsby of having little stunts in his
drug stores , he was adamant that Gatsby sold grain alcohol over the counter arguing that its probably
where all of his wealth came from and picked him for a bootlegger (page 109).

Silent Killer Research Paper
Stress, America s silent killers. Stress affects people of all ages, ethnicities and genders. Due to its
complex nature the concept of stress is constantly being studied. Extensive research has discovered
that stress can cause both psychological, and physiological issues. I m writing on the concept of stress
because it is something I have been able to identify with as a transitioning college student. It is also
something I know many people can identify with but don t necessarily know how to deal with. Stress
is a physical, mental, or emotional stimuli that causes bodily or mental tension. People often associate
stress as experiencing feelings of anxiety. People who go through stress often report feeling

Entering college as a first year student I knew the work load would be tough but I wasn t aware of
how many different obstacles would be thrown my way. Every week I had an exam. Every week I had
a paper or a quiz or something that needed my immediate attention. My body was stunned by the
amount of stimuli it was being bombarded with. Saying I was overwhelmed is a gross understatement.
That didn t even begin to describe how I was feeling. I always felt like I never had enough time, like I
never had enough energy. I felt as if I was being pulled into several different directions. My body was
having a difficult time adjusting and adapting to the changes of work in my new environment. When I
got my exams and papers back it didn t help that the grades that I received were significantly lower
than what I was used to. It only added to my stress. I started experiencing frequent migraine headache,
I was more susceptible to sickness and I had grown increasingly frustrated and irritable. Pain
exhaustion, irritability, and anxiety is what I associated with stress. I realized the correlation between
my stress and terrible tensions my body experienced. The more stressed I was the more tension I
experienced. I found myself crying very often and feeling like I didn t know what to do. When I was
stressed it forced me to find ways to de stress myself. I had to find something to release my stress so

realistically i would love to take my boyfriend to the Falling Water House, and i have been looking

would love to be able to go experience it for myself instead of just seeing pictures of it. The Sagrada

The Metropolitan Museum Of Art Essay
Positioned alongside Central Park within the heart of New York City, The Metropolitan Museum of
Art is one of the largest and most influential art museums in the world. The Met houses an extensive
collection of curated works that spans throughout various time periods and different cultures. The
context of museums, especially one as influential as the Met, inherently predisposes its visitors to a set
of understandings that subtly influence how they interpret and ultimately construct meanings about
each individual object within a museum. By analyzing two separate works on exhibit at the Met, I will
pose the argument that museums offer a unique expression of a world view that is dictated through
every element of its construction.
An object placed on display behind a glass case inside a museum would hold a vastly different
meaning if it were for sale by a street vendor, such as the individuals who set up their tables only a
few feet away from the Met. Brent Plate in Religion, Art, and Visual Culture argues that objects obtain
different meanings in different locations and historical settings. The different meanings that objects are
able to obtain is attributed to the relationships that are established between the object itself and the
environment that it is located in. These relationships often involve the kind of audience that a museum
attracts, where the work is exhibited, and how the exhibit is laid out. Museums subsequently have the

The Purpose Of A Good Filing System
The purpose of a filing system is to reduce stress by being organized. Handling stress is not good for
our being, so a good filing system is required. Life can become complicated when we let decisions and
actions stack up without taking the time to thoughtfully process as to their short and long term effects
on our life. Opportunities come at us like raindrops in a thunderstorm, pelting our brains until we go
into brain overload. Our thinking becomes fuzzy, muddled, and confused; therefore, a good filing
system is essential. Like most people, we have our filing system to deal with our thoughts. Does your
study desk reflect your thinking system? Are there papers stacked all over your desk and you are the
only person who sort of knows where everything is located (when you look for it)? Does it take ten
minutes to find what should be found in 30 seconds? Let us look at the filing system and see how it
affects our life. 1. Yes is a mandatory file for our thoughts. It is used in conjunction with the No file.
This file allows thoughts to go into our memory and attitudes, emotions, and actions are the result.
Use it with the utmost caution since it will definitely affect our very being. The file can bring about
resolution, which is very healthy to our mental state, providing the thoughts are positive, biblical, and
uplifting in nature or they will be disastrous if they are negative. This can sometimes lead to the
rhetorical question, How did I get myself into this mess? 2.

George Orwell Symbolism
Benjamin Franklin once said, Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary
safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Franklin, one of the United States Founding Fathers, talked
about a frightened electorate and acknowledged the negative repercussions that are caused by this
group. Furthermore, in 1984, George Orwell explores a world derived on hate, control, and repression
of the basic liberties of people. Citizens are manipulated into absolving themselves of independent
thought, forced to pursue loyalties to the Party. Benjamin Franklin s platitude is observed in the novel
through the use of symbolism, irony, and diction, and galvanizes the theme that forced fear leads to a

One such example is the rat, a common motif in the story. When Julia and Winston were together in
the room, a rat appeared, which rattled Winston. He commented, Rats! In this room (144). Clearly,
Winston dislikes rats, and can go so far as to fear them. The Party uses this fear to their advantage and
tortures Winston in Room 101 to manipulate his thoughts about Julia, who he loved. The Party wanted
him to abandon all perceived loyalties except those towards the Party. Therefore, the rat symbolizes a
common fear in everyone. For Winston, it just so happens to be this animal. Those who deviate or are

usage of extreme methods to force a certain ideology into someone shows how much control the

Zoot Suit Riots Summary
In the United States, and especially in border states such as California, Mexican immigrants and
Mexican Americans have had to live with constant racism and discrimination throughout the better
part of the twentieth century. Finally, after years of trying to assimilate and live up to the American
standard, tempers finally reached their boiling point. The accumulation of pent up tension over the
years between the Anglo and Mexican communities reached its limit. The end result was the Zoot Suit
Riots. There are several important factors to take into consideration for the cause of the riots. It is
important to understand what Zoot Suits symbolized for the youths who expressed themselves through
it, the events leading up to the riots, and how ultimately, the relationship between the Anglo and
Mexican and Mexican American communities changed, tensions rose, after the riots occurred. ... Show

According to the author of The Zoot Suit and Style Warfare, Stuart Cosgrove, the zoot suit style may
have originated in African American neighborhoods, like Harlem, in New York City. Cosgrove points
out, that first the style was a way for African American youth to show how they were not to be seen as
less than. The style is described as extravagant, it is a suit that is normally a bit baggy on the body, but
dressier than what young people, mostly young men, were expected to wear on a daily basis. Although
the style was meant to serve as an empowering statement for African American youth, for Chicano
youth, the style seemed to signify gang activity to the Anglo community. This already shows how
tensions between the two communities were close to erupting even before the riots. There was major
distrust and suspicion from Anglos towards the Chicano community simply because they felt their
style was different and not what patriotic Americans should

George Lemaitre is the priest and physicist who was born in 1894 in Charleroi, Belgium that perhaps
made the greatest discovery in modern cosmology, the discovery that our universe is expanding. In his
early age, he was attracted to both theology and science but was soon interrupted by World war 1.
However, after the war, he soon studied theoretical physics and in 1923 he was ordained as an abbe.

Theme Of Innocence In Sense And Sensibility
Finally, in Austen s Sense and Sensibility the idea of Innocence is embodied in the figure of Marianne,
as we can see in several passages of the text: Beyond you three, is there a creature in the world whom
I would not rather suspect of evil than Willoughby, whose heart I know so well? Elinor would not
contend, and only replied, Whoever may have been so detestably your enemy, let them be cheated of
their malignant triumph, my dear sister, by seeing how nobly the consciousness of your own
innocence and good intentions supports your spirits. It is a reasonable and laudable pride which resists
such malevolence. (Austen 140) Marianne is almost a child, she is only seventeen, and thus she is

Atmosphere
The term atmosphere is described by Wikipedia as An atmosphere (New Latin atmosphaera, created in
the 17th century from Greek ἀτμός [atmos] vapor and σφαῖρα [sphaira] sphere ) is a layer of gases that
may surround a material body of sufficient mass and that is held in place by the gravity of the body.
An atmosphere may be retained for a longer duration, if the gravity is high and the atmosphere s

It is stratified in temperature, with warmer layers higher up and cooler layers farther down. This is in
contrast to the troposphere near the Earth s surface, which is cooler higher up and warmer farther
down. The border of the troposphere and stratosphere, the tropopause, is marked by where this
inversion begins, which in terms of atmospheric thermodynamics is the equilibrium level. The
stratosphere is situated between about 6 mi and 30 mi altitude above the surface at moderate latitudes,
while at the poles it starts at about 5 mi altitude.
Within this layer, temperature increases as altitude increases; the top of the stratosphere has a
temperature of about 29.6°F, just slightly below the freezing point of water. The stratosphere is layered
in temperature because ozone here absorbs high energy UVB and UVC energy waves from the Sun
and is broken down into atomic oxygen and diatomic oxygen. Atomic oxygen is found prevalent in the
upper stratosphere due to the bombardment of UV light and the destruction of both ozone and
diatomic oxygen. The mid stratosphere has less UV light passing through it, O and O2 are able to
combine, and is where the majority of natural ozone is produced. It is when these two forms of oxygen
recombine to form ozone that they release the heat found in the stratosphere. The lower stratosphere
receives very low amounts of UVC, thus atomic oxygen is not found here and ozone is not formed
(with heat as the byproduct. This vertical stratification, with

Analysis Of The Poem The Woman Warrior By Maxine Hong...
The Unescapable Net:
Tradition vs Transformation in Kingston s Ideology The Woman Warrior, written by Chinese
American author Maxine Hong Kingston in 1976, blends traditional Chinese folktales and memoir,
and portrays the early 20th century Chinese history in a Chinese American perspective. For Maxine, it
seems Chinese history means social and cultural constrains from conventional Chinese doctrines,
especially regarding the social status of womanhood, the blind collectivism, and superstition in old
China. Maxine s negative depiction of Chinese history partially reflects the bureaucracy of patriarchal
and feudal system in old China, but more importantly, reveals Maxine herself, a third culture kid, as a
paradox: she is eager to incorporate into the American mainstream society by resisting her Chinese
cultural background, but at the same time, her unconscious actions imply that her Chinese background
is a historical baggage that she could never discard of. By retelling experiences and legends from her
mother and even her grandmother s generation, Maxine suggests how she as a Chinese American
woman is in a awkward state between tradition and transformation, and presents a cultural clash
between America and China. Maxine s portray of women s role under the male dominated society and
feudal system suggests the first paradox in her ideology protesting male dominance, but at the same
time admitting it. Women, in ancient China, are usually treated as lower social status and

challenges daily due to anxiety; some are diagnosed while others are not. Anxiety includes,
distressingly unpleasant and maladaptive feelings, thoughts, behaviors, and physical reactions.
Students with anxiety often worry about their competence, even when they are not being evaluated

In this circumstance, Susie feels over stimulated due to her need for perfection; inevitably causing her
to fall behind on assignments. Someone with severe anxiety splits their attention between their anxiety
and the task, instead of focusing solely on the assignment. This is made apparent through Susie s lack
of assignment completion. She is going through something known as the vicious cycle. Essentially,
Susie becomes fixated on a specific part of her assignment which distracts her from completing the
full project, leading to a poor grade and disappointment from Susie; causing more anxiety and another
incomplete assignment due to the lack of focus. Therefore, Susie cannot perform at the optimal level.
A simple task as mentioned earlier, notetaking; provides everyone with a tolerance for a higher arousal

someone with anxiety to partake in the activity more easily. Provided that Susie s main problems are

The War Of World War II Essay
World War II is known as the largest and bloodiest war in history. Well over 50 million people died in
the six years of the war claiming the most lives in any war in history. The War consisted of the Allies
and the Axis Powers. The Allies being Great Britain, France, the Soviet Union, The United States, and
China and the Axis Powers being Germany, Japan, and Italy. Despite the many countries that
participated in the war, Germany and the Nazi party were considered to be the main enemy. Many
great battles were fought in WWII and many weapons of warfare were utilized in combat. Million
upon millions of lives were lost to the Second World War. While many believe Hitler and the Nazi
army to be the cause of WWII, there were other events that set the war in motion and caused the rise
of the Nazi army. Many people assume that Hitler and the Nazi party were the only cause of starting
World War II, but there were many other events that took place before World War II. It mainly started
at the end of World War I. Germany realized that they could not win the war against Allies and instead
signed a treaty. With the peace treaty, Germany owed England and France over 10 billion dollars. This
destoyed Germany s economy. Unemployment rose 40% and there was anger and uprising all

The Inequality Of Income Inequality
Income Inequality Income inequality has been a major concern around the world, and it mainly links
to how economic metrics are distributed among individuals in a country. Economists generally
categorise these metrics in wealth, income and consumption. Wilkinson and Picket (2009) showed in
their studies that inequality has drawbacks that lead to social problems. This is because income
inequality and wealth concentration can hinder or delay long term growth. In 2011, International
Monetary Fund economists showed that less income inequality increased the duration of countries
economic growth spells more than free trade, low government corruption, foreign investment or low
foreign debt (Berg and Ostry, 2011). This essay will be structured as follow: 1 Theoretical Analysis:
showing reasons that cause income inequality. 2 Empirical evidence. 3 Possible policies to solve the
inequality problems. 4 Conclusion. 1. Theoretical Analysis An important factor in the creation of
inequality is variation in individuals access to education (Becker, et. Al, 2007). According to Bosworth
et. Al, (1999) education in a field that requires or demand a high number of workers, creates high
wages for those with advance education. As a result, those who are unable to afford good quality
education or choose not to participate in schools or colleges, generally receive much lower wages and
thus it lowers aggregate savings and investment. In particular, the increase in family income and

Symptoms And Treatment Of Crohn s Disease
Crohn s disease is a debilitating inflammatory bowel condition that has the potential to affect any part
of the gastrointestinal tract. The disease due to its relapsing and remitting nature decreases a persons
quality of life and can lead to complications such as abscesses and fistulae formation, which then
require recurrent surgical interventions. The therapeutic endpoint in Crohns disease management is to
induce and sustain remission, decrease complications, hospitalisations and surgeries. Therefore,
therapeutic management aims to change the natural course of Crohns disease so that people with the
condition are not disabled by its relapsing nature. This review whilst establishing the clinical features
of Crohns disease aims to investigate the efficacy of these standard therapies. It also attempts to
explore alternative approaches to managing Crohns disease that focus on minimising flare ups and
complications. Conventional therapies include antibiotics, glucocorticosteroids, 5 aminosalicylic

Whilst, these therapies have helped control symptoms the review finds they have made no attempt to

I Jumped Down The Stairs Behind Me
Vivaciously, I leaped off the bus, skipping the last few steps. Ella carefully climbed down the stairs
behind me; as our bus driver waved goodbye, closing the creaky, metal doors with a whirr, clang. We
watched as bus 93 glided around the corner, and disappeared. Placid, little houses towered over us, my
younger sister and I, as we began to stroll down the sidewalk. Stopping in front of each crack in the
cement, I paused and dramatically hopped over the trench.
Beating, golden rays had long since melted the snow that fell early this morning and were now
prompting me to stop my trench hopping game, drop my bag in the center of the sidewalk, and tie my
purple polka dotted jacket around my waist. I figured no one would mind my bag lying ... Show more

(At which point I determined she must ve been a sadist.) Uh, okay? Do you wanna know what
happened, or not? she huffed, quickly fed up with my lack of enthusiasm. Yeah, yeah, tell me. She
dove into an expertly articulated description of Claire and Wasle s feud as though her classroom had
become the setting for a superhero prolog. By the time I d interrupted her, she d already mentioned
something about blood money and an ancient curse. Needless to say, I asked her to skip ahead. So
today, she bellowed, Claire... chased Wasle... with scissors! Immediately, I burst out giggling, Nuh uh,
I poked flippantly. Yes, huh, she began defensively, Wasle took Claire s vocabulary work from her
table during centers today. And so, Claire grabbed the scissors off her desk and started chasing Wasle
around the classroom with them. My mind raced, pensive with pictures of a scissor battle, eliciting my
laughter to grow exponentially in size and volume. I could ve sworn dogs began howling at the
sound... All the while, a Wes Anderson directed movie played in my mind. Claire s face grew red with
anger, as her tiny second grade fingers reached for a pair of dramatically large scissors. Horrified
shrieks escaped Wasle s mouth as her hand shot up next to her face in the manner of a 50 s scream
queen. The whole scene was reflected in the bright blue walls of a cheery classroom. But, then today,
she continued

Similarities And Differences Between The Crucible And The...
A book and a play, both are extremely widely read and interpreted in countless different ways. These
two are thought to be prime examples of American Literature. Arthur Miller was born on October 17,
1915, and he published his play, The Crucible, in January of 1953. Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on
July 4, 1804, and his book, The Scarlet Letter, came out to print in March of 1850. These two types of
literature were published roughly 100 years apart, so there are minute changes in the way they were
written. Both are set in early 1700 s Massachusetts, but The Crucible is in Salem, and The Scarlet
Letter is set in Boston. There are many similarities and differences between the two, the biggest three
are how adultery plays a role in puritan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Primarily the male protagonists in both stories are the ones who feel the most guilty. The woman feel
guilty too, but this is where is seperates a little, In The Crucible, Abigail would never want her good
name to be damaged from people knowing that she is a adulterer, but in The Scarlet Letter, Hester
feels guilty for the first few years, but then gets used to the feeling, both the feeling of being an
outcast and being guilty. John Proctor feels ashamed that he has done such a thing with another
woman who he is not lawfully wed to, so he turns away from Abigail and towards his wife. He knows
he has done a wrong, and it is over now, but he still does not want anyone to know about it.
Dimmesdale is a priest in Boston, and that is extremely bad because he committed adultery with a
married woman, he does not tell for the next seven years, but eventually does right before he dies and
the end of the book. Massachusetts, in the 18th century, is the setting for both Miller s The Crucible
and Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, the way the community deals with matters of the law is very
similar to each other. Both communities are extremely religious, and everyone thinks that if you mess
up once, you will go to hell. You could say they are extremists with the Bible. In both stories, the man
and woman both commit what is usually one of the most severe sins, adultery. The community rejects
them, and things do not go well for

Lack Of Alcohol Consumption On Campus
Universities and colleges in the United States are split up into different categories. Private, public,
four years, and two years are just some of the different types of colleges in the United States. To be
even more specific all colleges are broken down into two major categories: dry and wet campuses.
Dry campus are basically universities that do not allow alcohol consumption on campus even if you
are at the drinking age. Wet campuses are the exact opposite. Most wet campuses are huge schools
where they can not control the alcohol consumption, such as the University of Connecticut, Penn
State, etc. Dry campuses on the other hand are mostly smaller schools where alcohol consumption can
be monitored. Examples of this are ECSU, and all the other Connecticut state schools. The reasons for
these differences are because the universities are trying to decrease the amount of drinking on campus,
but does this actually work? is the percentage of alcohol consumption lower on dry campuses than wet
campuses? After researching these topics and experiencing this first hand it is clear that the percentage
of alcohol consumption on dry campuses is not low enough compared to the percentage in wet
campus, to be considered a good way of solving the problem of binge drinking in universities. Dry
campus restrictions don t work because they don t impede students from buying alcohol, they don t
impede them from drinking off campus, and they fail to prevent alcohol related incidents. Alcohol

Pennsylvania Hall Speech By Angelina Grimke
Angelina Grimke, was born February 20, 1805 to Mary Smith Grimke and John Faucheraud Grimke
and was also the youngest of fourteen children. She stood for so many things, as a reformer. She was a
lady who wanted nothing more than to change the world. From the age of three Angelina was very
impacted by slavery. She tried to help free slaves and she also could not stand to seem them tortured
or the after effects of the torture. When it came time for her to be confirmed in the church she refused
because she knew that the church was fond of slavery and that was just not something that she stood
for. When she was thirteen years old her sister Sarah left the family plantation to become a Quaker
because she too opposed slavery. On one of Sarah s trips ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those help you to start to imagine half of what the slaves have to go through on a daily basis. She also
uses details such as the ways that the crowd reacted to her speech such as [a yell from the mob without
the building] (Angelina Grimke Weld). Which shows that even though there was quite a large number
of people who did not agree with what she had to say on the matter of slavery she did not care and she
continued to preach about it. There were people who were throwing bricks at the windows and
shouting during her speech and she still continued to try and get the people to side with her. The
overall effectiveness of the document were not immediate. At first, the people were still very hesitant
to break the bonds of slavery. They were a people who were afraid of change and were afraid of
people who did not look like them. They did not want to be seen as a person who supported the
abolishing of slavery. However, when the movement against slavery this document, along with a few
others were quite effect in how the world viewed slavery and the effects of

The Pros And Cons Of African Americans In Reconstruction
The Civil War ended in 1865 and while the thirteenth amendment was being passed lots of African
Americans faced problems. With the death of Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson became president
and while he worked with Lincoln he lacked Lincoln s critical thinking and thought that African
Americans shouldn t be involved in reconstruction. The definition of freedom is the power or right one
has to speak and think as one wants without restraint. Although African Americans were still being
treated like vermin by whites and struggled economically they were politically free. In the year 1866,
the Civil rights act was passed and it allowed African Americans to own property and be treated
equally in court. The only problem with that was the south refused to obey the laws. Once Johnson
pulled all the men out of the south who were suppose to protect the rights of African Americans
everything fell apart. Henry Adams was traveling and six miles south of town he was beaten by four
white men with sticks. The men threatened to kill every Negro that claimed he did not belong to
anyone. On his way to Shreveport, he noticed twelve colored men and women beat, shot and hung (
doc D). So, while blacks were free many people in the South believed the there way of life was better
and continued to treat African Americans poorly. It got to the point where President Johnson came up
with new rules for African Americans that they would abide by. These new rules were called the Black
Codes (C). The Black

Jon Snow And Frank Gallagher
Jon Snow and Frank Gallagher are two very different individuals as they reside on opposite ends of
the spectrum in terms of morals. But one thing is for sure, they both know how to put themselves and
others around them in danger. That and their amount of near death experiences are most likely their
only major similarities, although Jon s are from battle and Frank s are from alcohol poisoning. Frank
Gallagher is the father of a lower class, dysfunctional family in the Showtime series Shameless. The
biggest standout of Frank s behavior would probably have to be how drunk he is at all times. He has
been qualified as the most impressive case of alcoholism by a renowned doctor. This causes him to be
a horrible father who fails to connect with and provide for his family due to his alcoholism and
unemployment. As a result, the eldest sister of the family had to step up as the main provider. Frank
exhibits many odd behaviors while intoxicated, he frequently finds himself waking up in strange
places with no memory of how he arrived there, these places can range from his house kitchen in
Philly to a random sidewalk bench in Toronto. But interestingly enough, his oddest behavior, at least
from the perspective of his kids, comes from when he is not inebriated. This is difficult to see because
Frank is always drunk, but in one episode he gets offered $3000 if he can remain sober for two weeks
for a scientific study. His soberness changed everything. Instead of the kids having to

Fog Of War Film Analysis
The lesson that I personally found to be the most interesting was lesson one, which was to empathize
with your enemy. This is a lesson that should always be used, yet so rarely is. Throughout history it
could have prevented so much bloodshed, and when utilized correctly, it did successfully prevent
unneeded death. In the Fog of War film, this lesson is shown in two different ways. One way in which
it is successfully used and another way in which it is not used. Empathy was used in the Cuban
Missile Crisis. The President of the United States and his advisors attempted to get inside the head of
the Russians. By empathizing with them, they were able to come to the conclusion that no one wanted
to go to a nuclear war and that it could be

Since its launch three years ago, the globally acclaimed model has triggered soaring employee satisfaction scores, besides numerous employee suggestions and innovations, many of which are best practices today. Whether it s an indigenously manufactured bathroom mat or a new chemical for the laundry, every idea is big and shared across the hotel chain, says Mr Martyris. It has shattered the myth that only people at the top are creatively inclined. There is a huge reservoir of innovation waiting to be tapped among all levels of employees. The success of the earlier programme led Indian Hotels to introduce Stars Plus , a spin off for its service providers, and Joy at the Workplace , which is aimed at team building and bringing cheer to the office. • 4. The Link Between Nazi Propaganda And The Holocaust Essay Hitler believed that propaganda from the allies was the main reason that the Germans lost during World War I and felt that this form of warfare needed to be a primary tool in modern warfare. He spoke of this belief in his book Mein Kampf well before the start of the second World War. Hitler felt that the public needed to be inundated with the ideology of the state at all times and through all mediums (Jowett and O Donnell 2). To do this, he said everything from child s story book to the last newspaper, every theater, every cinema and every advertisement must be brought into the service of this single mission (qt. in Qualter ix). This onslaught of propaganda led to the Holocaust by leaving no other option open to the German people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Nazi s did use propaganda in this negative sense but in an underhanded and subversive way. They backed up all their false reports with scientific studies and claims of a better human race. Propaganda is hard to define as most definitions do not cover the full meaning of the word. The Webster s Illustrated Encyclopedic Dictionary defines propaganda as the systematic propagation or discrediting of a given doctrine or cause by circulation of polemical material, such as posters and leaflets (1353). However, this definition does not cover the full scope of the of the word. Terence Qualter also feels the definition for propaganda needs to be more refined for its new usage. The definition that he gives is the deliberate attempt...(to) form, control, or alter the attitudes of other groups...(with) the use of the instruments of communication (27 28). He goes on to say that the propaganda must be aimed at the group in general because that is the basic nature of the word, in that the most effective propaganda is the propaganda which has a large audience. Qualter does mention, however, that there need be no difference in the propaganda to persuade one and the propaganda to persuade the many (28). Germany did this by controlling the flow of information into the country. According to Hideya Kumata and Wilbur Schramm, gaining monopoly control of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One reason is that Calpurnia brought Jem and Scout to church with her. Calpurnia had asked them if they would like to attend church with her, they happily said yes. She brought them to her Church because she truly loves Jem and Scout and knows her church is a good one, so she wants them to learn good faith. Another reason Calpurnia is a better mother figure than Aunt Alexandra is because Calpurnia tells Scout she can always come in the kitchen if Jem is being mean to her. Calpurnia knows that Jem is getting older and that at times he can be very mean so when this happens she tells Scout she can always come in the kitchen. Calpurnia really loves Scout and is happy to always cheer her up and bond with her in the kitchen. Each and every year, Haitians enter this country legally and illegally but regardless of how they enter the US, it is inevitable that they will need to be cared for at some time in their life. Depending on social class, the Haitian client can either be future oriented or past and present oriented. The time orientation of the client will determine if they are going to be more inclined or less inclined to follow treatment regimens. When providing culturally competent health care for the Haitian client, the nurse must recognize the nontraditional health beliefs of the client and the health practices that arise as a result. In addition, the nurse must also maintain a nonjudgmental attitude about these beliefs. The nurse should incorporate Haitian folk practices into the treatment plans as long as they are not harmful and desired by the client. Folk medicine and treatments can be used in addition to traditional western health treatments. The nurse must also be aware of the health risks of Haitian Americans when providing care. According to Holcomb (1996), sexually transmitted diseases, cancer, and tuberculosis are the most common health conditions affecting Haitians and Haitian Americans (p. 257). With that being said, the nurse should teach the Haitian client about the importance of primary prevention and how it is a valuable component of a healthy lifestyle. • 9. The Evacuation At Dunkirk Essay Do you agree with this interpretation of Dunkirk? In this essay, I am going to explain a painting of Dunkirk, which was painted by a British painter in 1940. The artist, who painted the picture, was called Charles Cundall. He was sent by the British government to paint a picture about The Evacuation at Dunkirk. His main aim for painting this picture was to make Germany look bad and Britain look good. Therefore he had a reason to paint the picture as he was British himself. By looking at the picture I predict that he would not have been sitting in the battle field whilst the war is going of as we would have been exploded to pieces. He could have painted the picture from what he would have remembered whilst this battle was going on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The little ships in the picture are accurate as many on the ships would be fleeing from the shore into open sea water. We can see many bombs in the picture being fired out at sea. Big boats are also seen fleeing alongside the small boats. We see the big boat which is leaving the shore, of Dunkirk. There are many in accurate points about the sea. The big boats are shown too close to the shore. This would be in accurate as when the big boats were to move they would get stuck due to the sand of the shore. We can see the water at Dunkirk is very shallow, which would mean that boats would have to be at least miles away from shore in order for them to move. The artist Charles Cundall painted this on purpose to show British people, how the Germans stopped boats from being fled out to sea. This again would be propaganda as it shows British public how bad the Germans really are. The ships out at sea would at least have been sunk where as in the picture we see only one small ship being sunk. In reality three or four ship would have been sunk as soldiers were stopped from fleeing. The last part of the picture I am going to analyse is the sky. • 10. Compare And Contrast A Barred Owl And The History Teacher It s the dead of the night and the shrieking calls of a barred owl break the silence. A young child bolts upright in bed with fear written across her innocent face. A teacher s class is about to be taught a lesson on The Ice Age. The parents of the frightened child hush their daughter and say it was just an inquisitive owl that scared her awake. The teacher pulls on a sweater and says, Cavemen wore these a lot in The Ice Age. The children in these scenarios are the victims of deceit. Both poems, A Barred Owl and The History Teacher by Richard Wilbur and Billy Collins show the effects of not exposing children to the truth early on in life. That being said, this barred owl can clearly see the world and the life around him. The child cannot due to the fact that her parents are preventing her from such exposure. Innocent minds deserve a healthy dose of reality provided in the form of truthful explanations from the adults in their lives. The poem, The History Teacher leans towards a more playful and bright tone than the tone Wilbur used in A Barred Owl. The focus of this study is primarily on performing tasks and the identified issues are several. • 26. The Metropolitan Museum Of Art Essay Positioned alongside Central Park within the heart of New York City, The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the largest and most influential art museums in the world. The Met houses an extensive collection of curated works that spans throughout various time periods and different cultures. The context of museums, especially one as influential as the Met, inherently predisposes its visitors to a set of understandings that subtly influence how they interpret and ultimately construct meanings about each individual object within a museum. By analyzing two separate works on exhibit at the Met, I will pose the argument that museums offer a unique expression of a world view that is dictated through every element of its construction. An object placed on display behind a glass case inside a museum would hold a vastly different meaning if it were for sale by a street vendor, such as the individuals who set up their tables only a few feet away from the Met. Brent Plate in Religion, Art, and Visual Culture argues that objects obtain different meanings in different locations and historical settings. The different meanings that objects are able to obtain is attributed to the relationships that are established between the object itself and the environment that it is located in. These relationships often involve the kind of audience that a museum attracts, where the work is exhibited, and how the exhibit is laid out. Museums subsequently have the ability ... • 27. The Purpose Of A Good Filing System The purpose of a filing system is to reduce stress by being organized. Handling stress is not good for our being, so a good filing system is required. Life can become complicated when we let decisions and actions stack up without taking the time to thoughtfully process as to their short and long term effects on our life. Opportunities come at us like raindrops in a thunderstorm, pelting our brains until we go into brain overload. Our thinking becomes fuzzy, muddled, and confused; therefore, a good filing system is essential. Like most people, we have our filing system to deal with our thoughts. Does your study desk reflect your thinking system? Are there papers stacked all over your desk and you are the only person who sort of knows where everything is located (when you look for it)? Does it take ten minutes to find what should be found in 30 seconds? Let us look at the filing system and see how it affects our life. 1. Yes is a mandatory file for our thoughts. It is used in conjunction with the No file. This file allows thoughts to go into our memory and attitudes, emotions, and actions are the result. Use it with the utmost caution since it will definitely affect our very being. The file can bring about resolution, which is very healthy to our mental state, providing the thoughts are positive, biblical, and uplifting in nature or they will be disastrous if they are negative. This can sometimes lead to the rhetorical question, How did I get myself into this mess? 2. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Zoot Suit Riots Summary In the United States, and especially in border states such as California, Mexican immigrants and Mexican Americans have had to live with constant racism and discrimination throughout the better part of the twentieth century. Finally, after years of trying to assimilate and live up to the American standard, tempers finally reached their boiling point. The accumulation of pent up tension over the years between the Anglo and Mexican communities reached its limit. The end result was the Zoot Suit Riots. There are several important factors to take into consideration for the cause of the riots. It is important to understand what Zoot Suits symbolized for the youths who expressed themselves through it, the events leading up to the riots, and how ultimately, the relationship between the Anglo and Mexican and Mexican American communities changed, tensions rose, after the riots occurred. ... The style is described as extravagant, it is a suit that is normally a bit baggy on the body, but dressier than what young people, mostly young men, were expected to wear on a daily basis. Although the style was meant to serve as an empowering statement for African American youth, for Chicano youth, the style seemed to signify gang activity to the Anglo community. This already shows how tensions between the two communities were close to erupting even before the riots. This is in contrast to the troposphere near the Earth s surface, which is cooler higher up and warmer farther down. The border of the troposphere and stratosphere, the tropopause, is marked by where this inversion begins, which in terms of atmospheric thermodynamics is the equilibrium level. The stratosphere is situated between about 6 mi and 30 mi altitude above the surface at moderate latitudes, while at the poles it starts at about 5 mi altitude. Within this layer, temperature increases as altitude increases; the top of the stratosphere has a temperature of about 29.6°F, just slightly below the freezing point of water. The stratosphere is layered in temperature because ozone here absorbs high energy UVB and UVC energy waves from the Sun and is broken down into atomic oxygen and diatomic oxygen. Atomic oxygen is found prevalent in the upper stratosphere due to the bombardment of UV light and the destruction of both ozone and diatomic oxygen. The mid stratosphere has less UV light passing through it, O and O2 are able to combine, and is where the majority of natural ozone is produced. It is when these two forms of oxygen recombine to form ozone that they release the heat found in the stratosphere. The lower stratosphere receives very low amounts of UVC, thus atomic oxygen is not found here and ozone is not formed (with heat as the byproduct. This vertical stratification, with ... The Unescapable Net: Tradition vs Transformation in Kingston s Ideology The Woman Warrior, written by Chinese American author Maxine Hong Kingston in 1976, blends traditional Chinese folktales and memoir, and portrays the early 20th century Chinese history in a Chinese American perspective. For Maxine, it seems Chinese history means social and cultural constrains from conventional Chinese doctrines, especially regarding the social status of womanhood, the blind collectivism, and superstition in old China. Maxine s negative depiction of Chinese history partially reflects the bureaucracy of patriarchal and feudal system in old China, but more importantly, reveals Maxine herself, a third culture kid, as a paradox: she is eager to incorporate into the American mainstream society by resisting her Chinese cultural background, but at the same time, her unconscious actions imply that her Chinese background is a historical baggage that she could never discard of. By retelling experiences and legends from her mother and even her grandmother s generation, Maxine suggests how she as a Chinese American woman is in a awkward state between tradition and transformation, and presents a cultural clash between America and China. Essentially, Susie becomes fixated on a specific part of her assignment which distracts her from completing the full project, leading to a poor grade and disappointment from Susie; causing more anxiety and another incomplete assignment due to the lack of focus. The Inequality Of Income Inequality Income Inequality Income inequality has been a major concern around the world, and it mainly links to how economic metrics are distributed among individuals in a country. Economists generally categorise these metrics in wealth, income and consumption. Wilkinson and Picket (2009) showed in their studies that inequality has drawbacks that lead to social problems. This is because income inequality and wealth concentration can hinder or delay long term growth. In 2011, International Monetary Fund economists showed that less income inequality increased the duration of countries economic growth spells more than free trade, low government corruption, foreign investment or low foreign debt (Berg and Ostry, 2011). This essay will be structured as follow: 1 Theoretical Analysis: showing reasons that cause income inequality. 2 Empirical evidence. 3 Possible policies to solve the inequality problems. 4 Conclusion. 1. Theoretical Analysis An important factor in the creation of inequality is variation in individuals access to education (Becker, et. Al, 2007). According to Bosworth et. Al, (1999) education in a field that requires or demand a high number of workers, creates high wages for those with advance education. Dry campus are basically universities that do not allow alcohol consumption on campus even if you are at the drinking age. Wet campuses are the exact opposite. Most wet campuses are huge schools where they can not control the alcohol consumption, such as the University of Connecticut, Penn State, etc. Dry campuses on the other hand are mostly smaller schools where alcohol consumption can be monitored. Examples of this are ECSU, and all the other Connecticut state schools. The reasons for these differences are because the universities are trying to decrease the amount of drinking on campus, but does this actually work? is the percentage of alcohol consumption lower on dry campuses than wet campuses? She also uses details such as the ways that the crowd reacted to her speech such as [a yell from the mob without the building] (Angelina Grimke Weld). Which shows that even though there was quite a large number of people who did not agree with what she had to say on the matter of slavery she did not care and she continued to preach about it. • 46. The Pros And Cons Of African Americans In Reconstruction The Civil War ended in 1865 and while the thirteenth amendment was being passed lots of African Americans faced problems. With the death of Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson became president and while he worked with Lincoln he lacked Lincoln s critical thinking and thought that African Americans shouldn t be involved in reconstruction. The definition of freedom is the power or right one has to speak and think as one wants without restraint. Although African Americans were still being treated like vermin by whites and struggled economically they were politically free. In the year 1866, the Civil rights act was passed and it allowed African Americans to own property and be treated equally in court. The only problem with that was the south refused to obey the laws. Once Johnson pulled all the men out of the south who were suppose to protect the rights of African Americans everything fell apart. But one thing is for sure, they both know how to put themselves and others around them in danger. That and their amount of near death experiences are most likely their only major similarities, although Jon s are from battle and Frank s are from alcohol poisoning. Frank Gallagher is the father of a lower class, dysfunctional family in the Showtime series Shameless. The biggest standout of Frank s behavior would probably have to be how drunk he is at all times. He has been qualified as the most impressive case of alcoholism by a renowned doctor. This causes him to be a horrible father who fails to connect with and provide for his family due to his alcoholism and unemployment. As a result, the eldest sister of the family had to step up as the main provider. Frank exhibits many odd behaviors while intoxicated, he frequently finds himself waking up in strange places with no memory of how he arrived there, these places can range from his house kitchen in Philly to a random sidewalk bench in Toronto. But interestingly enough, his oddest behavior, at least from the perspective of his kids, comes from when he is not inebriated. This is difficult to see because Frank is always drunk, but in one episode he gets offered $3000 if he can remain sober for two weeks for a scientific study. His soberness changed everything. Instead of the kids having to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Fog Of War Film Analysis The lesson that I personally found to be the most interesting was lesson one, which was to empathize with your enemy. This is a lesson that should always be used, yet so rarely is. Throughout history it could have prevented so much bloodshed, and when utilized correctly, it did successfully prevent unneeded death. In the Fog of War film, this lesson is shown in two different ways. One way in which it is successfully used and another way in which it is not used. Empathy was used in the Cuban Missile Crisis. The President of the United States and his advisors attempted to get inside the head of the Russians. By empathizing with them, they were able to come to the conclusion that no one wanted to go to a nuclear war and that it could be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
