Cracking The Maya Code Summary
Documentary Film 1 Aaron Gundersen Art 305 This review will focus on the documentary Cracking
the Maya Code. Chinese is considered one of the most difficult languages for native English speakers
to learn because of the unique grammar and how they have a symbol for every word in their language.
Mayan is much harder for reasons we will get to. It was thought to be impossible until recently. The
documentary Cracking the Maya Code explains how we were able to take a language that was
considered impossible for us to learn, even on a basic level. The film explained that all changed when
we finally were able to figure out the pattern in the complex language. Some people would simply
consider eventually learning to read Mayan would be just a matter

Supportive Nature In The Goldfinch
Tartt s novel, The Goldfinch, portrays that humans are inherently good in spite of their mistakes and
wrongdoings. This is displayed through Theo s journey as guided by Boris supportive nature, Hobie s
eternal wisdom and the compassion exhibited by even those who play a seemingly insignificant role in
Theo s life. Argument Number One Boris Supportive Nature: In the desolate and forlorn area of Las
Vegas where Theo resides, Boris provides comfort and support to Theo as he begins a new life without
his mother. Although Boris makes many reprehensible decisions, it is his kind nature and inherent
goodness that allow him to provide Theo with a sense of excitement, loyalty and direction to his life,
leading him to discover his inner morality. When you feel homesick, he said, just look up. Because the
moon is the same wherever you go (254). In a time of grief and loneliness, Boris aids Theo in finding
comfort in what he has. Even though the rest of his life and the world around him are uncertain, the
moon is stationary and unchanging, providing a sense of familiarity and comfort, no matter the
location. None of us ever find enough kindness in the world, do we? (282) Again, in a time of sadness
and wistfulness, Boris is able to comfort Theo. With his poignant words, Boris simply explains that
nobody is ever satisfied with what they have and that Theo must hold onto whatever kindness exists,
for if one is never able to find enough, it is not worth letting any slip

Students Should Be Banned Books
Growing up, many students were raised with the idea that the best way to spark our imagination or to
learn about our society in the past was through the power of reading. But, as themes get darker and
words get harsher, different communities believe that certain books, for example Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer s Stone and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, should be banned. But, how can children
continue to learn if they are constantly banning books that can not only spark their imagination, but
gives them an idea about why certain situations has taken place and how to handle those situations? In
our modern day society, students should be allowed to read banned books, even though some books
contain a massive amount of violence, profanity, and bias opinions. The reasons why students should
be allowed the right to read banned books is because it gives them the right to develop their creativity
and to help them understand the real world. Throughout history, the use of racial terminology and
racial discrimination were common among the African American community in our American society.
The main reason many students, such as myself, knew this kind of information was through the power
of reading literature. As Jamie Leigh, writer for Punchels, states These bullets of candor don t injure
young people. They simply open up their minds, or even offer them something to identify with. (Leigh
2016) So why shelter students from situations, for example, suicide and discrimination,

Sex Trafficking Of Women And Children
Whilst numerous reports suggest a decline in sex trafficking of women and children in Cambodia,
Cambodia still remains one of the largest destinations of sex tourism. Many methods have been
implemented on both a national and community level in order to combat this criminal activity across
the country; however none have been sufficient enough to entirely eradicate sex trafficking of persons
in Cambodia. Thus a number of recommendations to combat these human rights violations have been
listed, as follows:
Recommendation 1 Harsher law enforcement and prosecution
1.1 Government authorities should effectively implement stronger and more effective anti trafficking
legislation and policies that have been instituted in recent years. Cambodian government may need to
exercise a legitimate law enforcement response to the crime of child sex trafficking. In addition, there
is a need to pass harsher penalties to prosecute offenders including the parents of these children for the
act of trafficking innocent children.
1.2 The Cambodian government should play a large role in the actual implementation and
enforcement of the rule of law in prosecuting the traffickers.
1.3 The Cambodian government should also adopt legislative and other measures to protect
informants and witnesses of child sex trafficking from being harassed (e.g. by exploiters), protection
of their identities to enable, citizens to report such instances without fear of consequent reprisals
(Michelle, 2013, p.230).

Essay on Pardoner s Manipulation of Audience
Pardoner s Manipulation of Audience
The Pardoner has had a graduate education in the rhetoric of confession. Chaucer might
intend it to be merely cutely ironic that this confessor confesses as in isn t that a turning of the tables,
la! On the other hand, it may well be that the Pardoner is practicing his rhetorical prowess on the other
pilgrims, and on us, with the extreme skill of a cynical and perceptive man who s heard every villainy
and mastered every deception. His intention, in his confession to the pilgrims, is obviously not to
manipulate them into pity, forgiveness and acceptance, any more than it is to get them to actually pay
to touch his holy relics ; it is a confession, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His keen insight into human depravity is what makes him such a brilliant con. He plays on the most
deep seated insecurities of his flock when he describes the magical powers of his relics. They will cure
sick livestock (livestock being the most valuable possession of the average listener, not to mention
shepherds); they will prosper crops (for all the farmers in the audience). That covers the men! To the
women, he offers the fantastic promise that his relics will cure their husbands of their jealousy and
suspicion. This is doubly clever, in light of the Wife of Bath s tale, because it picks up on her ideal of
women empowered to cheat on doting, trusting, forgiving husbands.
Let maken with this water his potage,
And never shal he more his wyf mistriste,
Though he the sooth of hir defaute wiste;
Al had she taken preestes two or three.
It s trebly clever, actually, because the last line can be read both as sexual solicitations to the women in
his flock, as well as an insult to the three priests present on the pilgrimage.
His next con is even more wickedly clever; he demonstrates how he subtly manipulates
his flock into coming forward and making offerings to his relics in order to avoid suspicion that they
have committed some horrible sin.
If any wight be in this chirche now,
That hath doon sinne horrible,

Labor And The Collective Bargaining Process
1.1 The actors who are generally involved in the collective bargaining process are Management but
more specifically, the owners and shareholders, executives and managers and the industrial and human
resource people. In the collective bargaining process in labor it is the individual employees and the
labor unions which represent them. In local, state, and federal government agencies and the public. It
is the government agencies that act as representatives of the public interest and are responsible for
making policies. 2.1 Some basic assumptions about labor and conflict are society has an impact on
labor activities, that conflict is gong to happen between labor and management. This conflict is not
always unhealthy though. Another assumption is that conflict comes from labor and management
having different social and economic interests. There are multiple perspectives from labor and
management. 3.2 Some of the legal reaction toward unionization before the NLRA were that unions
were viewed as criminal conspiracies up until 1842. Unions were viewed as violating a worker s right
to bargain with their employer as they wish and was not until Commonwealth vs Hunt that unions
were not considered as criminal conspiracies. By 1935 Injunctions became used widely and unions
were no longer considered criminal conspiracies. If union activities were found illegal, Judges began
putting injunctions against these activities and was the judge s determination if a union s action

The Secret Agent Man Georgevitch
Once upon a time, there was a man who lived in Flatlands in Brooklyn. His name was Georgevitch
and for a living, he worked as a security guard for MetLife Insurance at 200 Park Avenue in
Manhattan. He worked six nights a week patrolling around the building. One night he was patrolling
the building and he thought to himself that there was no need for him. For several weeks, absolutely
nothing had happened. Many things were going through his head. He was earning 25 dollars an hour.
And that was better than what anyone else could offer him. Except for two things. He had shoplifted a
couple of times and made a decent amount of money. Another time he had forged fake cheques. So, he
could withdraw random people s money. He was never caught, but his face was caught by cameras at
the bank. He is still wanted by the police. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Agent Man . He loved Secret Agent Man because he could relate to it and he thought it reminded him
of himself. He liked being a security guard, but sometimes he had wished that he was a police officer.
He wanted to become a police officer being it was never boring. Once he had even tried impersonating

The Pros And Cons Of Determinism
No human can survive without water due to the fact that without water, a person will die from
dehydration, but how do humans know we will die without water? Simple there have been several
incidences in the past of people dying from a lack of water. As a result, humans drink water so they do
not die. In the study of metaphysics, determinism is a view of freedom and moral responsibility which
explains that a person s actions are determined from previous events, and humans do not have free
will. A common phrase people use is you learn from your mistakes , which makes perfect sense. A
mistake was made in the past, and it is not made in the future given similar circumstances. Aileen
Wuornos is a real life example of somebody who had a horrifying past, and as a result, acted violently.
Aileen is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Metaphysics also poses two more views on freedom and moral responsibility: libertarianism and
compatibilism. Libertarianism explains that previous events do not determine a person s actions, and
that all humans have free will. Compatibilism is a mix of libertarianism and determinism, stating that
humans are determined by previous events, but have free will. Ultimately, determinism is the view
that is the most logical because many people can relate to it due to their previous experiences.
To begin, people who are not determinists will argue that people do have free will. A common
criticism for determinism involves the human consciousness: Consciousness is not a material thing,
even if it is dependent on the physical brain, and thus is not bound by the laws of physics. (Eric
Wayne). Due to the fact that an individual s thoughts cannot be observed with the five senses, then the
consciousness of every individual is different. To

Varicocelectomy Lab Report
Abstract Introduction: We aim to predict results of varicocelectomy on sperm density and progressive
motility using preoperative clinical, laboratory and radiological data and to propose cut off values for
significant parameters. Methods: This prospective study was carried out between July 2011 and June
2014. We included 123 patients in our study. They were diagnosed with primary infertility with
varicocele, were scheduled for varicocelectomy, and completed their follow up. We excluded patients
with azoospermia, total necrospermia, recurrent varicocele, and pituitary hormonal abnormalities.
Varicocele was diagnosed and graded by physical examination and colour Doppler ultrasound. Semen
analyses were completed preoperatively and 6 months postoperatively. Microscopic subinguinal

Patient demographics, pre and postoperative clinical data (varicocele grade and semen parameters)
were statistically analyzed. Results: The mean ± standard deviation of age, body mass index, and
subfertility duration was 28.3 ± 7.4 years, 29.1 ± 2.7 kg/m2, and 21.9 ± 7.1 months, respectively.
About 53% of our patients (n = 66) had bilateral varicocele, and unilateral disease was found in the
other 57 (46.3%) cases. Varicocele grade I was diagnosed in 42 (34.1%) patients, while the other 81
(65.9%) patients had grade II or III. Higher grades of varicocele, preoperative total testosterone level,
sperm density, and progressive motility had a statistically significant impact on the outcome of
varicocelectomy in univariate testing. Multivariate logistic analysis revealed that grade of preoperative
varicocele (95% confidence interval [CI] 5.6 6.3, p = 0.007) and sperm density (95% CI 2.7 1.6, p =
0.0035), and progressive motility (95% CI 1.1 2.3, p = 0.0123) are independent predictors of semen
parameters improvement after varicocelectomy. Conclusion: The grade of the varicocele, sperm

Bartleby the Scrivener, Deeply Symbolic Essay examples
Bartleby the Scrivener, a Deeply Symbolic Work
Bartleby the Scrivener, is one of the most complicated stories Melville has ever written, perhaps by
any American writer of that period. It id a deep and symbolic work, its make you think of every little
detail differently. It makes you realize that a little detail actually make a difference and give a meaning
to the story analysis. The walls are controlling symbols of the story; in fact some had said that it s a
parable of walls. Melville tells us explicitly that certain prosaic facts are indispensable to understand a
story (Leo Marx 1970). One of the walls, which is part of sky light shaft, is white. And it provides the
best light available, with the sky invisible. There is no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some had interpreted his phrase as a scream for help, as if he is shouting I am a human being, I can
and will make choices concerning my own life. But when his preferences are completely ignored and
he is sent to the city prison, he gives up on life and dies. It appeared to him as if he had lost the one
element of humanity he seemed to possess. Others said that, his refusal of the lawyer s request has
been read as a critique of the materialism of American culture that was growing at this time. Where it
is pretty much significant in the story that the lawyer s office is on Wall Street and Wall Street was at
that time becoming the hub of financial activity in the U.S. His refusal amounts to a heroic opposition
to economic control. That shows how the theme of this story is extremely subtle, and that gives the
story its popularity among readers allover the world. The last paragraph can t be left without analysis;
it s where a new mystery was revealed. It is the one thing the lawyer had discovered about Bartleby;
the rumor that Bartleby once worked in the Dead Letter office, and was fired in an administrative
shake up. Dead letters! Does it not sound like dead men? On errands of life, these letters speed to
death The lawyer wonders whether it was the lonely depressing job, reading letters meant for people
now gone or dead, which drove Bartleby into his final stillness beneath a prison yard tree

The Improvised Explosive Device ( Ied ) Essay
Winston Churchill said, You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing after they have
tried everything else .1 Three years after field commanders requested Mine Resistant Ambush
Protected (MRAP) vehicles the Pentagon approved the request and asked Congress to pay the bill.2
The defeat of Saddam Hussein by Coalition Forces created a growing insurgency in Iraq from the
summer of 2003 through the surge of U.S. Forces in 2008. The improvised explosive device (IED), the
insurgent s choice weapon, was responsible for 50 80% of U.S. deaths from 2005 through 2008.3 A
CNN poll conducted in March 2003 showed 72% of Americans supported the war in Iraq and 3 years
later only half that number, 36%, of Americans supported the war in Iraq.4 Public support for the war
diminished as deaths increased while U.S. Forces conducted non kinetic operations focused on
rebuilding Iraq. Also during this time, Congress began to ask the Pentagon why they could not defeat
the IED threat.
Despite mounting Congressional pressure, the Pentagon was not prepared to procure MRAPs under a
normal acquisition process. Ultimately, Secretary Gates made the rapid acquisition of the MRAP his
number one priority.5 This essay will highlight three factors that made the MRAP acquisition program
different from a normal acquisition. First, Congress and Secretary Gates, called for immediate MRAP
procurement. Next, MRAP procurement was unexpected as the Pentagon planned to be in and out of
Iraq quickly.

Breeding Purebred Dogs
The Negative Effects of Breeding Purebred Dogs Dog breeders breed purebred dogs. Standards for
dog breeds and qualifications for a dog to be considered purebred are set by kennel clubs. Kennel
clubs, such as the American Kennel Club, United Kennel Club, and the Kennel Club (UK), are
organizations that make money by registering dogs as purebred. Some people might want a purebred
because only purebreds can compete in most dog shows, which are sponsored by kennel clubs. Others
might think a purebred will be healthier than a mutt, which is a dog not bred from a specific line of
dogs, and kennel clubs won t register. However, breeding purebred dogs can result in health problems
for the dogs that are bred, such as inherited genetic diseases and ... Show more content on

If people really want a dog that is considered purebred, kennel clubs like the AKC need to change
standards for dog breeds to encourage healthy dogs, but the only way that is going to happen is if their
is a public push for it. It has happened before. In 2008, a documentary called Purebred Dogs Exposed
was televised in Great Britain. It was critical of the Kennel Club, the British equivalent of the AKC,
and showed purebreds with a range of health problems. The documentary showed that the 2003
champion of the country s most prestigious dog show, Crufts, was a Pekingese who had to be
photographed sitting on ice blocks because his flat face made his breed so prone to overheating. The
film also showed pictures of certain breeds in the early 20th century compared to pictures of the same
breeds today, showing how selective breeding had changed the dogs in the past century. For example,
it showed the lengthened the back of the dachshund, rounded the skull of the bull terrier, and the
almost frog like stance of the german sheperd. According to the documentary, vererinary fees for
purebred dogs were costing British owners 10 million pounds a week. In response to the documentary,
the Kennel Club commissioned an independent study led by Cambridge University professor emeritus
Sir Patrick Bateson. The resulting report largely confirmed the documentary s findings, which
concluded that inbreeding, selecting for extreme characteristics, and the practices of mass breeding
facilities known as puppy mills were negatively impacting dog welfare (The Purebred Paradox Part 2).
Since then, Britain s Kennel Club

The can is manufactured as three containers. A container for the beverage surrounds a container of the
heating agent separated from a container of water by a thin breakable membrane. When the user
pushes on the bottom of the can, a rod pierces the membrane, allowing the water and heating agent to
mix. The resulting reaction releases heat thus warms the beverage surrounding it. Source 6 Exothermic
reactions transfer energy to the surroundings. The energy is usually transferred as heat energy, causing
the reaction mixture and its surroundings to become hotter. The temperature increase can be detected
using a thermometer. Some examples of exothermic reactions are: Combustion (burning) Many
oxidation reactions, for example rusting Neutralisation reactions between acids and alkalis When a
flame burns it transfers heat to its surroundings. Exothermic reactions can be used for everyday
purposes. For example, hand warmers and self heating cans for drinks (such as coffee) use exothermic
reactions. Data about how hot the food and drink can get, including the energy released per gram in
these chemical reactions Source 7 When activated, the water and calcium oxide mix, causing an
exothermic reaction that heats the beverage by a total of 50 to 55 degrees Celsius in about three
minutes. This means that a drink which starts out at room temperature (20ºC/68ºF) heats up to 70ºC
(158ºF) from a cold cup of mud

equal but are women created equal as well? Of course not. Most would probably say yes but women
are a minority in this country. Men are the rulers over America, being very forgetful that because of
women they live. Although women are the creators of life, women are still not being treated equally
when it comes to jobs, salary, or other aspects. Is it fair that women still don t receive the respect and

better intentions to help further the advancement of women, which should have been the case from the

directed exactly for women rights. It is to be just like the bill of rights for our country but specifically
for women through out the countries. In 1979 the UN convention came together on the elimination of
all forms of discrimination of women. Women s economic integration is powerful for social status and
it saves lives by promoting wealth, encouraging economic progress, and enhancing women s social

true, so true that without women s tribute to the economy it would be a very low economy. Giving
women the rights that men have is very crucial to all countries through out the world. Women

Mathematical Theory Of Mathematics And Mathematics
In Mathematics, it is rare that a new branch of mathematics is introduced. That means that even
branches of math that have been around for hundreds of years are still technically new, or at least
relatively new. One such branch of mathematics is probability. Probability is only three hundred to
four hundred years old, so it easily falls into this category when compared to branches of mathematics
such as Geometry which dates back all the way to ancient Egypt in around 2900 BC, when it first
became important when an Egyptian pharaoh wanted to tax farmers who raised crops along the Nile
River. To compute the correct amount of tax, the pharaoh s agents had to be able to measure the
amount of land being cultivated. Later it was used to build the pyramids.
Probability s beginning happened because of recreational circumstances. A gambler s dispute in 1654
led to the creation of the mathematical theory of probability by two famous French mathematicians,
Blaise Pascal and Pierre de Fermat. Antoine Gombaud, Chevalier de Méré, a French nobleman with an
interest in gaming and gambling questions, called Pascal s attention to an apparent contradiction
concerning a popular dice game. The game consisted in throwing a pair of dice 24 times; the problem
was to decide whether or not to bet even money on the occurrence of at least one double six during the
24 throws. A seemingly well established gambling rule led de Méré to believe that betting on a double
six in 24 throws would

Exploring Piracy within Systems Essay
Executive Summary:
In this research document, we explore piracy within systems. As informatics students we find that it is
essential to understand all aspects of systems and the role they play in aiding the transfer of illegal,
copywrite, intellectual property of others.
With extensive research into file sharing, we have discovered that that peer to peer file exchange is
one of the most common enabler of the exchange of illegal data. Peer to peer file exchange occur both
physically through the use of USB drives and CD s as well as over the internet, through the use of e
mails, shared files and torrents.
We then took a look at existing piracy threats focusing mainly on torrents and laws implemented to
help discontinue notorious piracy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Piracy as a System
Thanks to technological advancements file sharing over the Internet has become a very popular and
easy thing amongst Internet users. Different system protocols, such as BitTorrent enable quick, easy
and secure file sharing of large files. Abuse of these revolutionary systems result in the illegal sharing
of music, books, movies and software.
Problem Statement
Problem Statement:
Torrenting is a useful tool to gain access to large amounts of information. It grants the user an
opportunity to download media files with ease and accuracy. Due to its simplistic user interface, the
general public makes use of this software, which in return causes a problem for media and production
companies. Production companies lose millions of dollars each year due to their copyright information
being distributed between peers. Torrenting is both a problem and an opportunity depending on the
audience. Peers to other peers can consider Torrenting the distribution of information. This is an act of
copyright violation depending on the information being distributed.
Due to the nature of our degree, it is only appropriate to choose a topic that corresponds with our
interests and knowledge. As informatics students the technical aspects of torrenting is very interesting
as we learn to build systems such as these. Torrenting is an innovative and revolutionary technique to
distribute large amounts of information.

Organic Agriculture Essay
Organic Agriculture
Organic agriculture is the oldest type of agriculture there is. Many people don t know exactly what has
to be done to say that you are farming organically, these days. Organic Agriculture has been increasing
in size over the past few years as more people worry about what they are eating. Many people donít
know what it exactly means to be farming organically.
The National Organic Standards Boards defines organic agriculture is ìan ecological production
management system that promotes and enhances biodiversity, biological cycles and soil biological
activity. It is based on minimal use of off farm inputs and on management practices that restore,

You canít grow row crops more than four out of five years.
Land that is coming out of CRP works great to be put right into raising organic crops, because you
donít have to wait for three years to change to organic. If you donít have land that is coming out of
CRP or something like it, then you will have to go through a three year transition period. There are
sometimes markets for these crops, but otherwise they have to be sold like regular crops. Iowa State
University says that, ìIn Iowa, the Natural Resource Conservation Services offers organic farmers
$50/acre during their transition to organic farming.î (May 2002)
The biggest problem people have with organic farming is weed control. You canít use chemicals, so it
has do be done mechanically. Farmers use different tactics to try and control weeds, like delaying
planting until the ground is warmer and using the crop rotations helps out tremendously. One tool that
farmers can use is a flamer to get rid of weeds. According to Bowman, ìFlames from LP gas burners
kill plants by rupturing cell walls, not burning plant tissue. Flaming is most effective on broadleaf
weeds as small seedlings.î (1997)
A rotary hoe is a must when you are organic farming. You need to rotary hoe corn and beans two to
three times. After the hoeing two cultivations are usually needed with a cultivator. Many times the
beans also need to be walked, so that weeds can be pulled by hand after

Biological And Psychological Perspectives Of Criminal...
When looking at criminal activity and the direct connection to the criminal behavior we see that there
have been many research trials that have taken place over the history of humankind (Mishra
Lalumiere, 2008). Two of these research areas that have been developed to attempt to understand the
causes of criminal behavior are known as biological and psychological perspectives of crime
causation. These two sectors have their principles that are held in their theories as a standard scientific
understanding of the basics that each evaluation of criminal behavior is built on (Dretske, 2004).
The principles of the biological theories allow us the understanding that all biological theories should
evaluate common factors that relate to each other from one biological theory to the other
(Schmalleger, 2012). The first parts of the biological theory assess the importance for the theories to
make a connection between criminal behavior and the human brain and a person s personality and the
studies of neurology and neurochemistry. This meaning that a person s ability to control antisocial
behavior stems from their environment and the and family genes gives the person directly into right
and wrong. There is also a standard that should evaluate the connection between different groups such
a sex and racial makeup that that of criminal behavior as well as human instinctive behavior (Dretske,
2014). The link between the evolutionary development of a person criminal behavior or ability to

his main goals, a sustainable planet, and the safeguard of human life. All of his companies and
inventions consist of components that will aid the planet in some shape or form. Hyperloop, Tesla, and
SolarCity would reduce the amount of fossil fuel emissions that enter the atmosphere, and could be a
major component to global warming. SpaceX would reduce the risk of overpopulation by providing an

The Catastrophic Event
Introduction Catastrophic event may be either natural or man made. An event that is termed to be
catastrophic is an event that can greatly have a negative effect on an organization. It may lead to great
loss in an organization upon it s occurrence whether by great loss financially or loss of significant data
relating to the running of the organization. It may also lead to loss of life of employees or injure them
greatly (Cornell Foutch, 2002). In order to avoid such effects which will greatly affect the running of
the organization and leave a great impact on its activities which may take a long time to recover, it is

Cherrys plan with the federal emergency plan Dr. Cherrys emergency plan in comparison to the
federal emergency plan will be considered as a success as it in a great way goes along with it. Like the
federal emergency plan his plan aims at training personnel with first aid skills. This will help at
minimizing loss of lives in times of an emergency also in life protecting and recovery following the
disaster. He also in his program trains students on public health and medical needs following a major
disaster like in the federal emergency plan, he also trains students to help casualties trapped in
collapsed structure in times of an emergency. Though his plan is somehow similar to the federal
emergency plan, his program lacks essential skills for unlike in the federal plan his program does not
train students on skills such as firefighting and potential discharge of hazardous materials following a
disaster. It also unlike in the federal emergency plan does not consider the identifying and securing for
arrangement for transportation of essentials such as foodstuffs to people in areas affected by a disaster

Porter s Six Forces Model Essay
In this paper, we are going to discuss Porter s six forces model and its effect in industries. With this
model, companies can determine the attractiveness and profitability of a market and also determine its
competitiveness. Companies need to develop strong corporate strategies in order to structure the six
forces to their advantage and strengthen their market position. This model can add advantages or
disadvantages to industries in competition depending on the situation. The model has its strengths and
weaknesses, which are going to be discussed in depth in this paper. Porter s six forces model is
structured as follows: first we have the horizontal forces which include threat of substitutes, threat of
new entrants and competitive rivalry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Applying Porter s model can help a company develop competitive strategies by choosing a strategy
appropriate for the new competition. Porter stated in Harvard Business Review that strategists could
come up with a plan of action after having assessed the forces affecting competition in an industry and
their causes. The plan of action may include positioning the company to allow its competences to
provide a defense against the competitive force and improving the company s position by influencing
the balance of the forces through strategic moves (Porter 2015). Porter also shared that competitive
strategy must be implemented in order to anticipate shifts in the factors underlying forces and
responding to them. The competitive environment influences the performance of businesses and from
a competitive industry perspective; Porter s model defines whether the industry is attractive or
unattractive. In an attractive industry, the threat of entrants, threat of substitute products and intensity
of rivalry among existing firms are low. Additionally, the bargaining power of buyers and suppliers are
also low and weak. On the other hand, in an unattractive industry the five forces are high and

Child Poverty In Canada
Global news reporter David Baxter published the news article 24 per cent of Saskatchewan children
live in poverty: report in November of 2017. Within the article, Baxter describes the findings from a
recent study from the University of Regina regarding the rates of child poverty in Saskatchewan. The
co authors of the study found that 24.1 per cent of children in Saskatchewan are living in poverty, a
number that rises to 50 per cent when First Nations children are considered (Baxtor, 2017). Although
the authors of the study acknowledge the current initiatives to combat child poverty in Saskatchewan,
such as child tax benefits, it is suggested that the government could be taking more progressive actions
to resolve this issue. This article ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While there are many different mechanisms at play in poverty, one of the most crucial mechanisms is
economic power. As stated by Knuttila (2017), economic power is a mechanism of power that deals
with control over the distribution of resources (p. 42). This aligns with the claim made by Antony et
al. (2017) that poverty is about how income and economic resources are distributed through the labour
market, which is really businesses and employers deciding who will get paid what for which kind of
work (p. 9). This idea is brought up in the news article with the finding that the incomes of most
impoverished families are below the poverty line (Baxter, 2016). As indicated by these authors, those
that the structures of society have given considerable economic power allow poverty to flourish
because material resources (i.e., money in the form of wages) are not being allocated equitably
throughout society, making those with less economic power suffer by receiving inadequate wages to
sustain their

Examples Of Honesty And Dishonesty
Honesty and loyalty are important parts of friendship and life in general. To take those nouns even
further you can use integrity. A very technical definition of integrity is adherence to moral and ethical
principles or the state of being whole. To me, integrity is being honest and truthful to others and to
yourself for a good cause. Integrity is a value that has to come from the heart. You cannot fake or force
honesty. School is the main place where your integrity is threatened. Sometimes you just have to look
at your friend s test or use your notebook during a quiz. You can t help it sometimes if you don t study.
No one can deny that they have cheated at least once during an exam. Cheating once or twice on a test
is usually forgivable and can virtually be repealed. Making it a habit can be threatening to your
mentality and your actions. If you are caught, you feel so poor about your ... Show more content on

I can remember times where I just had to look. I am not the type of person who cheats easily, I cannot
bring myself to look at my study guide. But there have been times that I just forget one question and I
look at the paper in front of me. It never feels good to cheat, there is always guilt that hangs over you
and it feels even worse if you get the question wrong. Not all of me is a cheater though, most of me is
good. It is good to be honest to yourself. At the start of high school there is a lot of stress and pressure
on us. For me, the transition of time has been hardest. I have lost hours of sleep doing homework and
studying for tests. I have to wake up earlier too. Times at night when I am finished with my
homework, I have to be honest with myself. I know that I am tired but sometimes I want to stay up
later and watch TV or go on my phone. I have to be honest with myself and go to sleep. Sleep has a
big impact on my life because I do sports, so I need to have integrity and listen to

I Fought With Custer, Frazier And Robert Hunt
In I Fought with Custer, Frazier and Robert Hunt Tells the personal story and experience of Charles
Windolph a soldier from Company H of the George Armstrong Custer s seventh U.S Calvary.
Windolph s who was the last survivor of the Battle of the Little Bighorn tells the story of the battle
from his perspective as a soldier in Company H Seventh U.S Calvary. The Battle of the Little BigHorn
was a battle plagued with uncertainty, mystery and accusations of cowardice and desertion because no
white man of general Custer five troops who accompanied him on that June day of 1876 lived to tell
the tale. In this review I am going to talk about this battle from the point of view of I fought with
Custer and the documentary Custer s Last Stand a recreation of the history of General George
Armstrong Custer s life.
The Battle of the Little Bighorn was fought along the ridges, steep bluffs, and ravines of the Little
Bighorn River, in south central Montana on June 25 26, 1876. The combatants were warriors of the
Lakota Sioux, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes, battling men of the 7th Regiment of the U.S.
Cavalry. In 1868, many Lakota leaders agreed to a treaty, known as the Fort Laramie Treaty that
created a large reservation in the western half of present day South Dakota. They further agreed to
give up their nomadic life which often brought them into conflict with other tribes in the region, with
settlers, and with railroad surveys. Agreeing to the treaty meant accepting a more

Maria Ordered Supplies From Ftc Enterprises
11. Maria ordered supplies from FTC enterprises. Bob, the owner of FTC enterprises, sent a credit
application form to Maria. A couple of days later, Maria sent back the credit application with a
signature that appeared to be under her name. Bob shipped the supplies thereafter awaiting Maria s
payments which never came. Bob later sued Maria for payment collection, but Maria denied ever
signing the paperwork and claimed that all credit documents were referred to her receptionist. Is Maria
liable?
In this case Maria is considered as a disclosed principal and Maria s receptionist is her agent. A
disclosed principal is defined as a principal whose identity is known by a third party (Clarkson, 2015,
p 644). FTC being the third party in this situation, recognizes Maria as a principal and recognized her
receptionist as an extension of Maria s authority. By referring credit documents and inquiries to her
receptionist, Maria is granting her receptionist implied authority to process credit documents on her
behalf (Clarkson, 2015, p. 643). Therefore, Maria will be held liable regardless of whether or not she
was aware of her receptionist s actions.

The Reform Movements of America
American History Essay Prior to the Civil War, the United States experienced several different reform
movements. These movements included the temperance movement, education movement, prison
movements, women s rights movement, and the anti slavery movement. When glanced together, there
may initially seem to be little connection between these various different movements. However, they
were actually supported by a common theme, the liberation of the human spirit. This idea that all
humans should be free provided the support for all of the different movements. The temperance
movement was based on the idea that humanity should be free from its own vices. The education
movement linked knowledge and freedom. The prison reform movement was not based on physical
liberation, but on the idea that the spirit crushing punitive emphasis of old fashioned prisons would not
create any possibility of change in the inmates. The women s rights movement was based upon the
notion that women should not be treated as inferior to men because of gender. Finally, the anti slavery
movement did not focus solely on the idea that slavery, as an institution, was inherently bad because it
deprived people of their physical liberty without just cause, but also on how slavery was practiced in
the antebellum South and the indignities that accompanied it. The temperance movement is one of the
least understood of all the reform movements because, while it had a tremendous impact on American
society, its

  • 2. Cracking The Maya Code Summary Documentary Film 1 Aaron Gundersen Art 305 This review will focus on the documentary Cracking the Maya Code. Chinese is considered one of the most difficult languages for native English speakers to learn because of the unique grammar and how they have a symbol for every word in their language. Mayan is much harder for reasons we will get to. It was thought to be impossible until recently. The documentary Cracking the Maya Code explains how we were able to take a language that was considered impossible for us to learn, even on a basic level. The film explained that all changed when we finally were able to figure out the pattern in the complex language. Some people would simply consider eventually learning to read Mayan would be just a matter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Supportive Nature In The Goldfinch Tartt s novel, The Goldfinch, portrays that humans are inherently good in spite of their mistakes and wrongdoings. This is displayed through Theo s journey as guided by Boris supportive nature, Hobie s eternal wisdom and the compassion exhibited by even those who play a seemingly insignificant role in Theo s life. Argument Number One Boris Supportive Nature: In the desolate and forlorn area of Las Vegas where Theo resides, Boris provides comfort and support to Theo as he begins a new life without his mother. Although Boris makes many reprehensible decisions, it is his kind nature and inherent goodness that allow him to provide Theo with a sense of excitement, loyalty and direction to his life, leading him to discover his inner morality. When you feel homesick, he said, just look up. Because the moon is the same wherever you go (254). In a time of grief and loneliness, Boris aids Theo in finding comfort in what he has. Even though the rest of his life and the world around him are uncertain, the moon is stationary and unchanging, providing a sense of familiarity and comfort, no matter the location. None of us ever find enough kindness in the world, do we? (282) Again, in a time of sadness and wistfulness, Boris is able to comfort Theo. With his poignant words, Boris simply explains that nobody is ever satisfied with what they have and that Theo must hold onto whatever kindness exists, for if one is never able to find enough, it is not worth letting any slip ... • 4. Students Should Be Banned Books Growing up, many students were raised with the idea that the best way to spark our imagination or to learn about our society in the past was through the power of reading. But, as themes get darker and words get harsher, different communities believe that certain books, for example Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, should be banned. But, how can children continue to learn if they are constantly banning books that can not only spark their imagination, but gives them an idea about why certain situations has taken place and how to handle those situations? In our modern day society, students should be allowed to read banned books, even though some books contain a massive amount of violence, profanity, and bias opinions. The reasons why students should be allowed the right to read banned books is because it gives them the right to develop their creativity and to help them understand the real world. Throughout history, the use of racial terminology and racial discrimination were common among the African American community in our American society. The main reason many students, such as myself, knew this kind of information was through the power of reading literature. As Jamie Leigh, writer for Punchels, states These bullets of candor don t injure young people. They simply open up their minds, or even offer them something to identify with. (Leigh 2016) So why shelter students from situations, for example, suicide and discrimination, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Sex Trafficking Of Women And Children Whilst numerous reports suggest a decline in sex trafficking of women and children in Cambodia, Cambodia still remains one of the largest destinations of sex tourism. Many methods have been implemented on both a national and community level in order to combat this criminal activity across the country; however none have been sufficient enough to entirely eradicate sex trafficking of persons in Cambodia. Thus a number of recommendations to combat these human rights violations have been listed, as follows: Recommendation 1 Harsher law enforcement and prosecution 1.1 Government authorities should effectively implement stronger and more effective anti trafficking legislation and policies that have been instituted in recent years. Cambodian government may need to exercise a legitimate law enforcement response to the crime of child sex trafficking. In addition, there is a need to pass harsher penalties to prosecute offenders including the parents of these children for the act of trafficking innocent children. 1.2 The Cambodian government should play a large role in the actual implementation and enforcement of the rule of law in prosecuting the traffickers. 1.3 The Cambodian government should also adopt legislative and other measures to protect informants and witnesses of child sex trafficking from being harassed (e.g. by exploiters), protection of their identities to enable, citizens to report such instances without fear of consequent reprisals (Michelle, 2013, p.230). ... Chaucer might intend it to be merely cutely ironic that this confessor confesses as in isn t that a turning of the tables, la! On the other hand, it may well be that the Pardoner is practicing his rhetorical prowess on the other pilgrims, and on us, with the extreme skill of a cynical and perceptive man who s heard every villainy and mastered every deception. His intention, in his confession to the pilgrims, is obviously not to manipulate them into pity, forgiveness and acceptance, any more than it is to get them to actually pay to touch his holy relics ; it is a confession, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His keen insight into human depravity is what makes him such a brilliant con. He plays on the most deep seated insecurities of his flock when he describes the magical powers of his relics. They will cure sick livestock (livestock being the most valuable possession of the average listener, not to mention shepherds); they will prosper crops (for all the farmers in the audience). That covers the men! To the women, he offers the fantastic promise that his relics will cure their husbands of their jealousy and suspicion. This is doubly clever, in light of the Wife of Bath s tale, because it picks up on her ideal of women empowered to cheat on doting, trusting, forgiving husbands. Let maken with this water his potage, And never shal he more his wyf mistriste, Though he the sooth of hir defaute wiste; Al had she taken preestes two or three. It s trebly clever, actually, because the last line can be read both as sexual solicitations to the women in his flock, as well as an insult to the three priests present on the pilgrimage. His next con is even more wickedly clever; he demonstrates how he subtly manipulates his flock into coming forward and making offerings to his relics in order to avoid suspicion that they have committed some horrible sin. If any wight be in this chirche now, That hath doon sinne horrible,

  • 10. Labor And The Collective Bargaining Process 1.1 The actors who are generally involved in the collective bargaining process are Management but more specifically, the owners and shareholders, executives and managers and the industrial and human resource people. In the collective bargaining process in labor it is the individual employees and the labor unions which represent them. In local, state, and federal government agencies and the public. It is the government agencies that act as representatives of the public interest and are responsible for making policies. 2.1 Some basic assumptions about labor and conflict are society has an impact on labor activities, that conflict is gong to happen between labor and management. This conflict is not always unhealthy though. Another assumption is that conflict comes from labor and management having different social and economic interests. There are multiple perspectives from labor and management. 3.2 Some of the legal reaction toward unionization before the NLRA were that unions were viewed as criminal conspiracies up until 1842. Unions were viewed as violating a worker s right to bargain with their employer as they wish and was not until Commonwealth vs Hunt that unions were not considered as criminal conspiracies. • 13. The Pros And Cons Of Determinism No human can survive without water due to the fact that without water, a person will die from dehydration, but how do humans know we will die without water? Simple there have been several incidences in the past of people dying from a lack of water. As a result, humans drink water so they do not die. In the study of metaphysics, determinism is a view of freedom and moral responsibility which explains that a person s actions are determined from previous events, and humans do not have free will. A common phrase people use is you learn from your mistakes , which makes perfect sense. A mistake was made in the past, and it is not made in the future given similar circumstances. Metaphysics also poses two more views on freedom and moral responsibility: libertarianism and compatibilism. Libertarianism explains that previous events do not determine a person s actions, and that all humans have free will. Compatibilism is a mix of libertarianism and determinism, stating that humans are determined by previous events, but have free will. Ultimately, determinism is the view that is the most logical because many people can relate to it due to their previous experiences. To begin, people who are not determinists will argue that people do have free will. A common criticism for determinism involves the human consciousness: Consciousness is not a material thing, even if it is dependent on the physical brain, and thus is not bound by the laws of physics. Methods: This prospective study was carried out between July 2011 and June 2014. We included 123 patients in our study. They were diagnosed with primary infertility with varicocele, were scheduled for varicocelectomy, and completed their follow up. We excluded patients with azoospermia, total necrospermia, recurrent varicocele, and pituitary hormonal abnormalities. About 53% of our patients (n = 66) had bilateral varicocele, and unilateral disease was found in the other 57 (46.3%) cases. Bartleby the Scrivener, Deeply Symbolic Essay examples Bartleby the Scrivener, a Deeply Symbolic Work Bartleby the Scrivener, is one of the most complicated stories Melville has ever written, perhaps by any American writer of that period. It id a deep and symbolic work, its make you think of every little detail differently. It makes you realize that a little detail actually make a difference and give a meaning to the story analysis. The walls are controlling symbols of the story; in fact some had said that it s a parable of walls. Melville tells us explicitly that certain prosaic facts are indispensable to understand a story (Leo Marx 1970). One of the walls, which is part of sky light shaft, is white. • 16. The Improvised Explosive Device ( Ied ) Essay Winston Churchill said, You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing after they have tried everything else .1 Three years after field commanders requested Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles the Pentagon approved the request and asked Congress to pay the bill.2 The defeat of Saddam Hussein by Coalition Forces created a growing insurgency in Iraq from the summer of 2003 through the surge of U.S. Forces in 2008. The improvised explosive device (IED), the insurgent s choice weapon, was responsible for 50 80% of U.S. deaths from 2005 through 2008.3 A CNN poll conducted in March 2003 showed 72% of Americans supported the war in Iraq and 3 years later only half that number, 36%, of Americans supported the war in Iraq.4 Public support for the war diminished as deaths increased while U.S. Forces conducted non kinetic operations focused on rebuilding Iraq. Also during this time, Congress began to ask the Pentagon why they could not defeat the IED threat. Despite mounting Congressional pressure, the Pentagon was not prepared to procure MRAPs under a normal acquisition process. Ultimately, Secretary Gates made the rapid acquisition of the MRAP his number one priority.5 This essay will highlight three factors that made the MRAP acquisition program different from a normal acquisition. First, Congress and Secretary Gates, called for immediate MRAP procurement. Next, MRAP procurement was unexpected as the Pentagon planned to be in and out of Iraq quickly. ... Standards for dog breeds and qualifications for a dog to be considered purebred are set by kennel clubs. Kennel clubs, such as the American Kennel Club, United Kennel Club, and the Kennel Club (UK), are organizations that make money by registering dogs as purebred. Some people might want a purebred because only purebreds can compete in most dog shows, which are sponsored by kennel clubs. If people really want a dog that is considered purebred, kennel clubs like the AKC need to change standards for dog breeds to encourage healthy dogs, but the only way that is going to happen is if their is a public push for it. It has happened before. In 2008, a documentary called Purebred Dogs Exposed was televised in Great Britain. It was critical of the Kennel Club, the British equivalent of the AKC, and showed purebreds with a range of health problems. The documentary showed that the 2003 champion of the country s most prestigious dog show, Crufts, was a Pekingese who had to be photographed sitting on ice blocks because his flat face made his breed so prone to overheating. The film also showed pictures of certain breeds in the early 20th century compared to pictures of the same breeds today, showing how selective breeding had changed the dogs in the past century. For example, it showed the lengthened the back of the dachshund, rounded the skull of the bull terrier, and the almost frog like stance of the german sheperd. According to the documentary, vererinary fees for purebred dogs were costing British owners 10 million pounds a week. In response to the documentary, the Kennel Club commissioned an independent study led by Cambridge University professor emeritus Sir Patrick Bateson. The resulting report largely confirmed the documentary s findings, which concluded that inbreeding, selecting for extreme characteristics, and the practices of mass breeding facilities known as puppy mills were negatively impacting dog welfare (The Purebred Paradox Part 2). • 21. Mathematical Theory Of Mathematics And Mathematics In Mathematics, it is rare that a new branch of mathematics is introduced. That means that even branches of math that have been around for hundreds of years are still technically new, or at least relatively new. One such branch of mathematics is probability. Probability is only three hundred to four hundred years old, so it easily falls into this category when compared to branches of mathematics such as Geometry which dates back all the way to ancient Egypt in around 2900 BC, when it first became important when an Egyptian pharaoh wanted to tax farmers who raised crops along the Nile River. To compute the correct amount of tax, the pharaoh s agents had to be able to measure the amount of land being cultivated. Later it was used to build the pyramids. Probability s beginning happened because of recreational circumstances. A gambler s dispute in 1654 led to the creation of the mathematical theory of probability by two famous French mathematicians, Blaise Pascal and Pierre de Fermat. Antoine Gombaud, Chevalier de Méré, a French nobleman with an interest in gaming and gambling questions, called Pascal s attention to an apparent contradiction concerning a popular dice game. The game consisted in throwing a pair of dice 24 times; the problem was to decide whether or not to bet even money on the occurrence of at least one double six during the 24 throws. A seemingly well established gambling rule led de Méré to believe that betting on a double six in 24 throws would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Piracy as a System Thanks to technological advancements file sharing over the Internet has become a very popular and easy thing amongst Internet users. Different system protocols, such as BitTorrent enable quick, easy and secure file sharing of large files. Abuse of these revolutionary systems result in the illegal sharing of music, books, movies and software. Problem Statement Problem Statement: Torrenting is a useful tool to gain access to large amounts of information. It grants the user an opportunity to download media files with ease and accuracy. Due to its simplistic user interface, the general public makes use of this software, which in return causes a problem for media and production companies. Production companies lose millions of dollars each year due to their copyright information being distributed between peers. Torrenting is both a problem and an opportunity depending on the audience. Peers to other peers can consider Torrenting the distribution of information. This is an act of copyright violation depending on the information being distributed. You canít use chemicals, so it has do be done mechanically. Farmers use different tactics to try and control weeds, like delaying planting until the ground is warmer and using the crop rotations helps out tremendously. • 25. Biological And Psychological Perspectives Of Criminal... When looking at criminal activity and the direct connection to the criminal behavior we see that there have been many research trials that have taken place over the history of humankind (Mishra Lalumiere, 2008). Two of these research areas that have been developed to attempt to understand the causes of criminal behavior are known as biological and psychological perspectives of crime causation. These two sectors have their principles that are held in their theories as a standard scientific understanding of the basics that each evaluation of criminal behavior is built on (Dretske, 2004). The principles of the biological theories allow us the understanding that all biological theories should evaluate common factors that relate to each other from one biological theory to the other (Schmalleger, 2012). The first parts of the biological theory assess the importance for the theories to make a connection between criminal behavior and the human brain and a person s personality and the studies of neurology and neurochemistry. This meaning that a person s ability to control antisocial behavior stems from their environment and the and family genes gives the person directly into right and wrong. With this model, companies can determine the attractiveness and profitability of a market and also determine its competitiveness. Companies need to develop strong corporate strategies in order to structure the six forces to their advantage and strengthen their market position. This model can add advantages or disadvantages to industries in competition depending on the situation. Porter stated in Harvard Business Review that strategists could come up with a plan of action after having assessed the forces affecting competition in an industry and their causes. The plan of action may include positioning the company to allow its competences to provide a defense against the competitive force and improving the company s position by influencing the balance of the forces through strategic moves (Porter 2015). Porter also shared that competitive strategy must be implemented in order to anticipate shifts in the factors underlying forces and responding to them. The competitive environment influences the performance of businesses and from a competitive industry perspective; Porter s model defines whether the industry is attractive or unattractive. As stated by Knuttila (2017), economic power is a mechanism of power that deals with control over the distribution of resources (p. 42). This aligns with the claim made by Antony et al. (2017) that poverty is about how income and economic resources are distributed through the labour market, which is really businesses and employers deciding who will get paid what for which kind of work (p. 9). This idea is brought up in the news article with the finding that the incomes of most impoverished families are below the poverty line (Baxter, 2016). As indicated by these authors, those that the structures of society have given considerable economic power allow poverty to flourish because material resources (i.e., money in the form of wages) are not being allocated equitably throughout society, making those with less economic power suffer by receiving inadequate wages to sustain their ... Bob later sued Maria for payment collection, but Maria denied ever signing the paperwork and claimed that all credit documents were referred to her receptionist. Is Maria liable? In this case Maria is considered as a disclosed principal and Maria s receptionist is her agent. A disclosed principal is defined as a principal whose identity is known by a third party (Clarkson, 2015, p 644). • 34. The Reform Movements of America American History Essay Prior to the Civil War, the United States experienced several different reform movements. These movements included the temperance movement, education movement, prison movements, women s rights movement, and the anti slavery movement. When glanced together, there may initially seem to be little connection between these various different movements. However, they were actually supported by a common theme, the liberation of the human spirit. This idea that all humans should be free provided the support for all of the different movements. The temperance movement was based on the idea that humanity should be free from its own vices. The education movement linked knowledge and freedom. The prison reform movement was not based on physical liberation, but on the idea that the spirit crushing punitive emphasis of old fashioned prisons would not create any possibility of change in the inmates. The women s rights movement was based upon the notion that women should not be treated as inferior to men because of gender. Finally, the anti slavery movement did not focus solely on the idea that slavery, as an institution, was inherently bad because it deprived people of their physical liberty without just cause, but also on how slavery was practiced in the antebellum South and the indignities that accompanied it. The temperance movement is one of the least understood of all the reform movements because, while it had a tremendous impact on American society, its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
