Philosophy Vs Native American Culture
There are many interpretations and comparisons of philosophy that can be made. These views come
from different cultural and intellectual backgrounds from Native Americans to the scientific
community within the western world; all of which seek to answer the question of the relationship
between self and nature. The Native American culturehas several different ideas that shape their
philosophical way of thinking. These ideas include circularity and relatedness, conceptualization of
person, poetry of performance and two world principles (Smith 2010). Conversely, western forms
of intellectualism stem from making clarifications that distinctively set apart knowledge in science,
religion humanity and technology. This is not the case with philosophical ideas and ways of
thinking such as in the Native American culture. There are no clear distinctions in the ways of
interpretation in the manner of storytelling, to teach lessons and morals to their youth. For
example, the Native American narratives in telling the story of an elder who envisions himself as
a great leader to his people, but before he can fully realize this vision he must endure hardship in
learningdiscipline through hunting and fishing during a summer.... Show more content on

Jim Baggott goes further in declaring reality to be a metaphysical concept and not measurable by
the confines of science. In fact, reality can be manipulated by the human mind (Trigg 2015). Even
Socrates and Aristotle had some understanding of this notion and took nothing in their physical
world for granted when it came to trying to understand the nature of self to the physical. However
rudimentary in their processes, as it were in their time, they still looked for explanations beyond the
confines of their scientific

Post-Industrial Society Video Analysis
While the labor of the average man throughout America has arguably stayed the same, the same
cannot be said for their role in that labor. The drudgeries of the farmyard become replaced with
the drudgeries of the assembly line, to be replaced by the drudgeries of the cubicle, and so on
and so forth. The video post industrial society does a great job briefly explaining this, citing the
post industrial society being no longer focused on the production of things, rather on the creation
of ideas and philosophies. While the video remains mostly factual and neutral, at the very end it s
talking points would sound very similar to an article proclaiming the post industrial world as a
myth .This article argues against those yearning for the days of industrialization, imagined as a
world where... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On a similar note, this self proclaimed post industrial age has brought one major change, the
need for specialized education. The ability for a man or women to support themselves and their
family is now unattainable in developed and industrialized countries with only muscle jerks and
repetition, with robotics and cheap labor making nearly anyone in those industries replaceable,
and therefore, poorly paid in comparison to labor. As the value of education became clear,
children would no longer be forced to work for the majority of the day in dangerous and
dilapidated coal mines, but instead spend twelve years being prepared for future careers in areas
that would arguably, be much more beneficial. The career opportunities of a young adult rose
from the family farm or the factory in the middle of town to organizations all around the world. As
a result of this, the American dream of being able to be whatever you wanted rose rose from the
cynicism of the industrial

Ethos And Logos In Rascal Flatts My Wish
Rascal Flatts My Wish displays examples of pathos, ethos, and logos. The emotions shown in the
song are a lot of encouragement and unconditional love. It is not a story, but more of words of
encouragement to a child from their parent, or even someone who is just out of relationship, but
still really cares about the other person. Life can and will at some point be challenging, but he
wants his kids to know that no matter what, they will always have someone that loves them. He
wants the best for his kids and he wants life for them to be all that they wantit to be. He encourages
them to keep and strive for their dreams, while keeping their worries small. He also gives advice to

The Pros And Cons Of A Primary Election System
A primary election is where voters in each state votes for a presidential candidate by
political party. For instance, if you are a registered Democrat within your county, then you only
vote for one democrat candidate in the primary. According the Greenberg book, the primary
system is a related trend has involved more direct elections of government officials, replacing
the old indirect methods (Greenberg 2014, pg. 286). This system is still used today to create a
direct approach to determine which candidate from each party officially won in one state, in
which a state that pledge to a specific candidate from each political party. For example, one
recent official pledge for the 2016 presidential election was in Iowa, in which Cruz won for the
Republicans in that state. Again, these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But in today s system, there is such thing a party caucuses , or
selection of delegates to national party conventions by city or countywide meetings by party
(Greenberg 2014, pg. 287). This will enhance democracy, but it is sometimes an un democratic
Lee 2 feature. So do we think that it is a good system? Because most politicians usually never listen
and
continuously debating, thus creating delays for a solution, I basically have no opinion on that.
However, June primaries are official elimination round, in which one candidate from each party
will run for the November election, so I think that the primary system breaks down to several
candidates into one for each party. Ultimately, the primary system is to create a two party
election, whether it is countywide, statewide, or nationwide, created a major success in the
struggle for democracy (Greenberg 2014, pg. 287). Problems do remain at the polls and also
while processing votes in the county seat, in which can create unexpected official

Muscle Protein Synthesis
As previously mentioned, WPHs are pre digested to a degree, meaning that the resulting amino
acids are more quickly distributed to skeletal muscles. This positively impacts the rate of rate of
muscle protein synthesis after exercise. The way this process works is broken into two main steps
transcription and translation (Editors, 2011). In transcription, DNA is unzipped (opened), and with
the help of the enzyme RNA polymerase, messenger RNA, or mRNA, is created by pairing
complementary nucleotides using the DNA as an instructional template . This step does not require
amino acids, but is necessary to briefly mention in order to give context to the second step.
Translation involves the mRNA binding to ribosomes in the cytoplasm of the musclecell. Here,
transfer RNA, or tRNA, molecules also bind to the ribosome. The order... Show more content on

First of all, WPHs are effective scavengers of molecules with free radicals in the body (Tang et
al, 2012) due to their hydrophobicity. Secondly, reducing power is significant in WPHs, so that
when these free radicals are found, they are eliminated effectively. In cells, oxygen is needed for
many processes, but there are side effects of frequent exposure to the molecule, namely the
formation of free radicals. These highly reactive molecules have an unpaired electron, allowing
them to interact freely with and do damage to lipid molecules, particularly ones with double
bonds. Since cell membranes have a high lipid content, they are at risk without antioxidant
protection. Tang et al (2012) showed that WPHs from peanut peptides effectively scavenge and
reduce hydroxyl radicals (most dangerous) and 2, 2 diphenyl 1 picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals.
The latter of the two is particularly notable, as The model of scavenging stable DPPH radical is a
widely used method to evaluate antioxidant activities in a relatively short time compared with other
methods. (p.

adults between the ages of 18 and 25. Teens are able to get a job and would need their license in

American government. Consequently, they had their differences, yet they also had their
similarities. From many viewpoints between the two democracies will be analyzed in political,

The Charles River Bridge v. Warren Bridge decision affect the access to corporate charters
prevalent in Jefferson s time. Cause of it during Jefferson time corporate charters were granted
to favorites of state legislators often implied monopoly rights to a business. For Jackson his
appointee for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Roger Taney ruled that corporate charters
should be available to all who chose to risk starting a business. Both Jackson and Jefferson
owned slaves but Jefferson wanted it to be destroyed completely and his Jeffersonian
Republicans compromised on slavery because it promoted agriculture over industry. Jackson
supported slavery and seem not to care that much about abolition of it. In the 1840 s and 1850 s
his Jacksonian Democrats joined anti slavery Democrats joined the Whig Party. When talk of
education was brought up Jefferson who was an educated man himself, believed education was
necessary for office holding and for preparing citizens for participation in a democracy. Also to
Jefferson the obstacles to upward social mobility for him was education ambition were keys to
success; however, he could never build support for his proposed system of public education.

A Study On Rapid Evolution
4.Introduction:
a.I have learned that rapid evolution has expanded exceedingly. Zuk shows this with an example of
the average size of fish being way much smaller due to fishermen causing the fish to reproduce
earlier than they normally do. Due to this, evolution regulated the growth and size of the fish
variously, thus their sexual maturity became different.
b.Another thing that I have learned from the introduction is that evolving quickly is not always a
good thing. When evolution occurs too fast, there s only a small percentage of the population that
survives while the rest of the population disintegrates. An example of this is the Black Death, where
the death rates were about 95%. Thus, only the fittest were able to survive the ... Show more content

I was able to understand that we are not at the peak of evolution due to this, and we still have time
to evolve more.
Chapter 2:
a.One thing that caught my interest was learning that due to the modification in our diet with
agriculture, disease became more prominent. This shows what happened when we decided to go to
crops and civilization for our source of food versus going for the traditional hunter gatherer role our
ancestors once possessed. I thought this was a very interesting fact to learn.
b.Another interesting thing is that the level of fitness for individuals could possibly get worse in
the future. This is because our population is stuck and not adapting to the environments we are in.
An effect of this could mean that we are not suited for the environment we are in, and we still
have to evolve more so we can be more adaptive.
Chapter 3:
a.Some interesting information I learned was that evolution can occur quickly in the wild. Zuk
demonstrated an example of this with a species of crickets that she had observed before. In fewer
than 5 years, the male crickets had lost their ability to produce sound due to the rapid evolution of
parasitic flies affecting the apparatus thus rendering the males. This was an example of one of the
fastest cases of evolution. Knowing this allows me to understand that evolution occurring more
quickly for one species could affect the evolution of another species.

The Management Theory Of Management
Management has experienced remarkable shifts in the way that organizations conduct business
particularly in the last century, due to the evolving workplace as well as tremendous changes in
the roles of leaders in organizations. Early managers often relied on authoritative tactics to get the
job done, which we have learned from history does not work very well for many modern
organizations. In this paper, I will be analyzing the managementapproach my organization takes and
whether this is the best approach to meet organizational goals and whether or not my organization
may benefit from adopting a different approach or combining multiple approaches.
What are management theories? Management theories are utilized in various organizations in an
effort to increase organizational effectiveness and service delivery. The management theory that an
organization decides to adhere to will vary based on the type of organization, as well as, the services
and/or products that it offers. Therefore, it is not uncommon for an organization to use multiple
theories when implementing strategies in the workplace.

Profit Is Not The Purpose Of Enterprise
Profit is not the purpose of enterprise
Introduction
Many people mistakenly think that the purpose of the company is simply to make money. In fact,
profit is actually just an important result of the existence of a company. The real reason for
company existence has to be further studied. Companies need profits, but more importantly they
must have the social responsibility. Companies have a great responsibility to their employees,
customers, suppliers and the general welfare of society, as well as the ecological environment. It
inevitably comes to a conclusion that the existence of the company is to be able to complete a
work which cannot be done by one person. It actually is a kind of contribution to society. But now,
it can be seen that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For one hundred percent of the profits, all human laws will be trampled by these capitals. If there
are three hundred percent of the profits, any crime will be committed, even with the risk of
strangulation (Marx, Engels, Levitsky, 1996). For example, before Enron declared bankruptcy in
2001, it had about 21,000 employees and was one of the world s largest electricity, gas and
telecommunication companies. The company had been named as America s most innovative
company by Fortune for six consecutive years. But the real cause of Enron famous in the world
was financial fraud scandal which made this company with hundreds of billions of assets in
bankruptcy within a few weeks (Cahan Zhang, 2005). Therefore, it can be seen that the pursuit of
profit as the purpose of the enterprise inevitably causes the emergence of various cases of
unsustainable development, thereby harming the enterprise, society, the community, the
environment and the staffs.
The purpose of business is to provide goods and services, thus contributing to society. Despite
obtaining profit is not a fundamental purpose of business, profit and purpose are not in
confrontation. There are correlations between profit and purpose.
First, profits are the result of corporate contribution to society. If the business provides the
community with the necessary products and services in an efficient way, then the business will
earn profits. Therefore, profit is

The Invention Of Harley Davidson Essay
In 1868, a man named Sylvester H. Roper invented the very first motorcycle. He lived in Roxbury,
Massachusetts. He came up with the idea of a twin cylinder steam velocipede with a cool fired
broiler between the wheels. When he came up with this idea, people thought that it was craziest
idea someone could come up. He went through with it anyways. His invention helped pave the way
for motorcycles today. Roper s inventions came to a screeching halt when he passed away
demonstrating one of his many inventions along with many other motorcycleinventors. Harley
Davidson came about in 1903. A lot of people were riding motorcycles instead of bicycles in
1902. He helped World War I by seeing increased interests in communications and getting place
to place. You rarely saw messengers on horseback anymore at that time. When World War II
happened, Harley Davidson s motorcycles skyrocketed up to 100mph. The only type of motor
he still uses is an air cooled v twin engine. Over the years his bikes have changed and developed
into much bigger and better bikes. He s one of the many bike builders in the United States. Most
people in the United States have Harleys or a different make similar to the Harley. I don t
personally care for Harleys or any other motorcycles besides a sports bike. A sports bike or also

If appropriate, ask the person if they d like to review what you ve written so far.
Sidestep going AWOL in the first place. Set up a meeting with your advisor with the plan of
having the entire proposal done. If you realize, a few days before the meeting, that a complete draft
won t be possible, ask whether you can turn in an incomplete draft annotated with specific
questions you have about the gaps. If a journal editor asks for an estimated date for the revision,
reply that you ll try to return the manuscript within a month unless there are unforeseen problems.
Then, if glitches arise, you can contact the editor with a revised estimate of completion. Give
yourself some leeway. If you tend to run late, you might want to adopt the policy of don t ask don
t tell : many academics I work with volunteer deadlines even when it is unnecessary to do so.
Perhaps you should keep your completion goals to yourself.
Take extra steps to avoid AWOL when your absence will affect others. If you are late with a

late with a group project, going AWOL has consequences for your colleagues. Put special effort
into promptness in these cases. For example, when you are writing a chapter for an edited volume,

Chesapeake Colonies Vs New England Colonies
As stories of the New World drifted back to the old, a new start appealed to the residents of a
troubled, turbulent England. Poverty had made it difficult for many to provide for their families,
forcing them to seek their livelihood elsewhere. Displaced peasants traveled to the already
overpopulated major cities such as London, hoping to scrape by. Around the same time, King Henry
VIII severed ties with the Catholic Church, establishing the Church of England, a Catholic sect with
himself at the head. This led to confusion and dissent within England, ending in the eventual rise
of the Protestant William and Mary until the rise of Elizabeth I, when she severed ties with
Rome anew. This religious confusion led to an unstable religious climate in England, resulting in
persecution of many different religions. Social, economic and religious issues led many to look
to the Americas as an opportunity to start fresh, economically and religiously. Although the New
England and the Chesapeake regions both started as small colonies, simply hoping to get by in
the New World, by the 18th century they developed into drastically different cultures. The New
England region consisted of many Puritans who fled England seeking religious freedom, while
the Chesapeake region consisted of young Englishmen seeking wealth. Despite their similar hope
for a better life in the New World, as a result of differences in topography, economy, religious
background and overall societal views, the two colonies had developed into two distinct societies
by the 1700s.
Before either the New England or Chesapeake colonies were founded, the differences in the
intentions of its founders foreshadowed the two distinct societies the colonies would become.
Jamestown, the first of the Chesapeake colonies, was founded on the premise of accumulating
wealth. Settlers traveled to the New World in hopes of economic opportunity for themselves and
their investors, spending their early days searching for gold. The gentlemen not only faced
disappointment as they realized their search for riches was a waste, but starvation as they had not
allocated their resources and time to establish their settlement and plant food. They were forced to

really only need one outfit when you travel, and that selling out when you don t have to is one of
the fouler things a privileged person chooses to do. But more than that, Bourdain taught people
that one of the most reliably good parts of humanity is getting the chance to learn and succumbing
to it. Bourdain, who d cut his teeth in the frat house ambiance of the kitchen, didn t really begin

The troubles erupted at the Mandarin plan, which was located in one of free trade zones, in early

In late March 1995, managers at the Gap became aware of claim that the management of the

Question 1: Select 2 3 companies profiled in the case and discuss the formulation of their
respective strategies for commercializing the TDP Technology The three companies we would

1991, and commenced operations in April 1992. Soligen is a metal casting industry which produces

Specific Surface Corporation was then able to provide customers with filters that efficiently
removed particulates from dirty hot flue gas streams hence providing customers with greater
power generation efficiency. As Parrish and Jeffery brainstormed the problems on the already
existing filter industry they arrived with two major issued that were going on in the industry.
They were, one people no longer wanted to cool down gases at the source. The other issue was
that people wanted more compact filters, they wanted them smaller. However to get smaller
filters one would have to get a larger surface area. Parrish went ahead to contact companies such
as ABB and Westinghouse which used a lot of filters and were facing the similar problems.
Parrish offered Jeffery the opportunity to join him and they pursued the opportunity together
and licensed the technology created by Emmanuel Sachs and they worked on creating the
smaller filters with larger surface areas. In early 1993 Mike Cima a professor of material science
at MIT introduced Parrish to the 3DP process. Cima showed Parrish how he used it to make
ceramics, Parrish then inquired if anyone was using this technology to make filters and Cima s
response was No, why don t you do it . This was a distinct advantage for Specific Surface
Corporation as at the time there were no companies involved in the

A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen
Animal imagery is prevalent in a variety of literary selections. This paper will focus on animal
imagery in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House by using the reader response strategy. In the play A
Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen, animal imagery is used in the development of the main character
Nora. It is also later found that the animal imagery is a critical part in understanding who Nora is
and how other characters perceive her. Ibsen uses creative animal imagery to develop Nora s
character throughout the play. The animal imagery is carried out through the conversation
between Nora and her husband Torvald. Torvald uses a lot of bird imagery because he thinks of
Nora as lark. It is also evident that the animal names he calls Nora, directly relate... Show more

In Act 2, Nora begs Torvald to let Krogstad keep his position at the bank. When Torvald says that
it must not be done, Nora panics. When Torvald calms her down, he notices her frightened dove
s eyes (36). A dove is the symbol of peace, which is in essence what Nora is trying to do. If
Torvald fires Krogstad then she will have to give him the money she borrowed, and it could
destroy her life. However, Torvald does realize that Nora is trying very hard to convince him to
keep Krogstad at his bank, but he disregards it as her trying to keep things right and refers to her
as a peaceful dove. Later in Act 2, Nora tries a different approach in keeping things peaceful by
keeping Torvald from finding out about the money she borrowed. She even goes as far as
calling herself all the names that Torvald calls her and says, I would play the fairy and dance for
you in the moonlight, Torvald (34). She does this because she wants Torvald to be happy, and
she knows that he is going to eventually find out about the money she owes. She is also stalling
him so that he will not read the letter. This scene reminds me of when a child tries to cover up
something that he/she has done wrong. For example, when I was three years old I used to climb
on furniture to get what I needed instead of asking an adult for help. One day when I was at my
grandmother s house, I pulled a chair out and set it in front of the kitchen cabinet. I climbed on the
chair and tried to reach for a cup in

Benefits Of A Robot Warrior
Do you like warriors? Do you like to create things? Do you enjoy pushing your creativity to the
max? Do you enjoy the sense of amazement at what you can make? If you find pleasure with any
of these, then you will enjoy learning how to create your own hero out of Lego Bionicle parts that
protects your fictional worlds from harm.
In order to make your robot warrior, you will need to gather your supplies. First, you should
collect the small pieces, which are from the Lego Technic franchise. These pieces include pins,
axles, and gears. Secondly, you will need to grab the main parts: Lego Bionicle ball joints. There
are two types of ball joints: ones with guards on the side, and ones without guards. For the ball
joints without guards, use the ones with Technic pin holes. They will allow you to add more
armor on the legs. Another piece that you will need is a torso piece. The last group of pieces you
will need are the armor and accessories. The armor should have primary and secondary colors. This

Finally, add accessories to your devices of destruction. For example, if your warrior has a sword,

The Union Of The European Union
Brexiters are desperate and angry with everything and everyone that suggests that the British
people should vote to remain in the European Union in the 23 June 2016 referendum. The recent
victim of their desperation and ire has been no less a personage than the US President Barrack
Obama himself. President Obama was in London recently to wish the Queen her happy 90th
birthday and help Prime Minister David Cameron win the referendum in which the British
people will vote whether they want to remain in the EU or leave. The Leave campaigners have
sought to create a bubble that Britain outside the EU will be a prosperous paradise at the center
of the universe, free from pesky European countries. But Obama punctured their bubble by
announcing that Britain outside the EU will be less powerful, less secure, and less prosperous,
and it will have to wait for five to 10 years to sign a trade agreement with the United States. That
was shattering for the Leave campaign. Boris Johnson, the leader of the Leave campaign and
mayor of London, was so angry that he descended into the invective. He said President Obama had
anti colonial mindset obtained from his Kenyan father. Although the reference was made to the
removal of British Prime Minister Churchill s from the Oval Office, the mayor was angry because
of his intervention on behalf of the Remain campaign. The anger has been on the rise, especially

Social Media And Its Effects On The World Today Without...
You have to admit it s hard to imagine the world today without the Internet. However, it seems it s
hard just for some us. A recent study from the B2B research firm Clutch, revealed that more than
46% of small businesses in the United States still don t have a website for their company.
Numerous reasons were listed for not having an online presence, for instance, around 12% of small
business representatives said that they use social media networks in place of static site. But the
most popular reason by far was the cost of maintaining a site.
Now, while starting and maintaining a website will definitely cost you, in reality, you don t have to
spend a ton of money in order to have a fully functional, modern site and keep up with the
competition. On the other hand, there are some things you cannot ignore if you want to save as
much money as you can, and unfortunately, one of the biggest issues many companies don t pay
much attention is cybersecurity. These days, hackers and other cyber criminals are pocketing a

Saying Farewell To A Faithful Pal, By John Grogan
Animals Care for Humans Animals have been there for us, even if we made the choice to leave
them, they still decided to stay by our sides. Every new experience can make a person change,
sometimes the change is negative and other times it is positive. Either way, there is no avoiding
change. Animals are protective, understanding, and very helpful. One positive change of a
protective animal is in the memoir, Saying Farewell to a Faithful Pal, by John Grogan. He
became a primitive killer for lusting for the blood of his enemy, and up to this moment he had
no enemies (Grogan, pg. 146, pp. 4). This quote tells me that Charley murdered a bear for the
safety of his owner. Charley played a role of a hero to protect his owner from the bear, but in John

furious protector. But he was still preventative for the safety of others.... Show more content on

Artillery is estimated to have caused 60% of all wounds, showing the effectiveness of this
dangerous new technology. The main targets of artillery strikes were rarely infantry themselves,
rather machine guns, German trenches and German fortifications. A common perception among
French generals was Artillery conquers and infantry occupies. With the creation of the Canadian
Counter Battery Office (CCBO) this new technology was effectively employed for one of the first
times at Vimy Ridge. As part of a four phase plan, March 20th marked the commencing of the
artillery strikes on German trenches with twenty four artillery brigades consisting of 480 eighteen
pounders, 138 4.5inch howitzers, ninety six two inch trench mortars, and twenty four massive 9.45
inch trench mortars. During this phase, the gunners were highly successful knocking out many
German batteries, many of which identified by aerial photography. Phase two began on April 2nd,
with the intensity of the attacks increasing; they tried to maintain constant bombardment of the
Germans to prevent them from rebuilding defences or receiving supplies. The later two phases of
the plan started on April 9th and consisted of the creeping barrage to follow troops, as well as
artillery support moving up at the pace of the soldiers. This artillery doctrine developed by
McNaughton was devastating to the Germans. It combined reconnaissance and precision strikes to
weaken defences and sever supply lines, while attacking enemy battery positions with tactical
timing based on the stage of the

Maher it may be entertaining, but for Islamic people and many others, it is very disrespectful. This

Though, when they do, it is negative. Some of these religions include Buddhism, Taoism and
Confucianism. Of the little recognition they receive, much of it displays stereotypes that distort
what the religion is actually about. Kung Fu Panda is an example of how the religion is
represented as something is actually isn t. Many traditional aspects like Kung Fu, dragons, symbols
and celebrations are stereotyped into more Westernized forms. The movie lacks religious and
historical facts. Movie industries do this because viewers enjoy watching stereotypical
misappropriations due to them being funny. With the average North American watching TV for 299
minutes, it is unlikely that they are watching factual and educational shows. Identically, Hindus and
Sikhs only seem to get news coverage when addressing specific topics like violence. For Sikhs, this
involves conflict surrounding the kirpan. Recently, Sikhs having been blowing up on the news due
to issues with the Guru Granth Sahib being desecrated. They are only getting popularity due to the
amount of controversy this issue is creating. Controversy attracts viewers, which will make these
news outlets popular. Finally, atheists and agnostics are groups that do not get enough recognition,
even though they make up 16% of Canada s population. Although this is true, atheist and agnostics
still face negative stereotyping. Many of them include being cold hearted, radical and aggressive.
This occurs because people aren t educated on this group. They have just recently been accepted
into society, so there will still be hatred and misconceptions present. In conclusion, these groups

Frederick Douglass Learning To Read Essay
Frederick Douglass s piece, Learning to Read, explained the firsthand experiences he had as a
young, black boy during the time of slavery and segregation. The struggles he faced and lengths
he took trying to learn how to read and write. Toni Morrison s piece Noble Lecture, was meant to
describe the cruel and oppressive qualities that language can possess, and its effect on others.
Douglass would agree with Morrison s view that language can be used for violence because of
his experiences and struggles he faced while trying to acquire an education. These two pieces,
although similar in the way they explain and see language as oppressive, are from completely
different times. Learning to Read was written in 1845, with the author giving a first hand account
of how he acquired his education and how he views language as a part of life. Conversely, Noble
Lecture was written in 1993. The author is a graduate from Cornell University, writing about her
research about language, including her piece about oppressive language. Although both authors
come from very different backgrounds and time periods, the views that they share about language
can be seen as continuous, considering the similar views with totally different time periods.
Morrison defines language as a platform meant for learning and sharing new ideas and
experiences. Certain types of language, such as racist, sexist and theistic, are meant to be vicious,
cruel and defined by the author as oppressive. Oppressive language, as

However, the White Coat Ceremony is a relatively new ritual. The first full pledge White Coat
Ceremony took place at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Grants from
the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation helped advance the White Coat Ceremony far beyond
Columbia. In just a few years nearly every medical school in North America adopted the
ceremony. It is evident that rituals can be created. I believe it is vital for an individual to find a
place for rituals in their lives, as long as you intentionally cultivate that character for it.
A person receiving their white coat identity is altered in a variety of ways, they are now seen and
expected to act as medical professionals. The cloaking emerges from the ceremony ritual. It is seen
as a symbol of professionalism and humanism, and ensure that students commit to those virtues
throughout medical school. Accepting the white coat ensures that a medical student promises to
retain certain merits such as integrity. Integrity represents the uppermost standards of behavior
while ensuring to refuse violate any personal and professional codes. It is promising to always have

These qualities must be honored throughout the student s career.

student s behaviour. The theories to be discussed will include; Goal Centered Theory, Cognitive
behavioural theory and Choice theory. Goal Centered Theory is a social discipline model of
Rudolf Dreikurs that was influenced by social phycologist Alfred Alder (Old Dominion
University, 2016). The underpinning idea to this theory is that students have a democratic say in
classroom discipline and milieu. The teachers aim is to meet to students needs satisfaction by
focussing on their social relationships, feelings, thoughts and behaviours (Lyons, Ford Slee, 2014,
p. 24) in a democratic way making sure that students feel both valued and like they belong . By
meeting these needs in a democratic way teachers will not only gain more respect from their
students but will also give their students a feeling of self worth (Grandmont, 2002, p. 241). This
approach is based on the belief that students take responsibility for controlling their behaviour and
that they have the ability to make responsible decisions (Grandmont, 2002, p. 4).

Effects Of Glaciers On The Environment
As time progresses more and more emissions are expelled into our atmosphere. While this
happens at the current rate, our world begins to warm and the climates begin to change. One of
the largest impacts we see in our world is glaciers retreating at a pace that seems unstoppable. As
the glaciers retreat we see the surrounding ecosystems changing with them. The water put off
into the oceans impacts not only molecules in the water but the life within it. As glaciers retreat
more and more questions arise but one pressing factor is how it is affecting entire surrounding
regions. It is questionable to see if some species are adapting to the receding of glaciers or if
populations are directly impacted. Since glaciers play a huge role in the environment, it can
only be predicted that it will impact many species dramatically. This can be predicted because of
the noticeable change in the ecosystems around them. Glaciers hold a huge mass that not only
covers large areas of land but shapes and changes the landscape. Since Prince William Sound has
so many glaciers feeding into its region it is an ideal area to observe.. Since glaciers are such
influential masses in our environment it can be predicted that their retreat has direct impact in
their region. Prince William Sound is located in Southeast Alaska and is in the Chugach National
Forest. The Sound is home to a temperate rainforest and is over 2 million acres. Prince William
Sound is home to around 150 glaciers, over 220 species of

Ethical Arguments Against Torture
Discussions concerning torture have always been controversial and upsetting. For the benefit of
many, torture seems excusable and permissible when it is guaranteed to yield vital and necessary
information. Even from an act utilitarian standpoint, torture is acceptable when its actions produce
the highest happiness in numbers. But from a rule utilitarian perspective, torture violates
universal truths and is not effective everywhere at all times, since it is not always guaranteed to
produce the same result. This essay will argue against torture on the basis that it is unethical no
matter what the situation is or who the suspect may be. The Oxford English Dictionary provides
two main entries to define the word torture and, for the sake of the unusual circumstances
presented in the time bomb case, the second entry will be used as a springboard for the rule
utilitarian argument against torturing a suspect and/or his child. According to the OED s second
entry, the definition of torture is To inflict severe pain or suffering upon; to torment; to distress or
afflict grievously; also, to exercise the mind severely. By examining this definition, emphasis
should be placed on two main parts: 1. To inflict severe pain or suffering upon and 2. To exercise
the mind severely. We will work from these parts to break down the... Show more content on

The act of torture itself has the effect of a double edged sword on the suspect and the torturer. To
exercise the mind severely is not just a definition limited to the suspect but encompasses all
participants of the torture as well. The psychological stresses that result from this leave lasting
effects on the victim and the perpetrator and do nothing for the morale of either. It also reduces the
perpetrator and his country to a primitive state of justice and leaves an embarrassing trail of
unnecessary and endless

The Impact Of The Trail Of Tears
Native Americans Indians faced numerous challenges to their survival as people on their own
lands in the eighteenth century. The Indians found themselves under severe pressure by settlers
and speculators in the new nation interested in expanding east and westward of North America,
either by acquiring Indian lands by treaty or by force. The American people at the time viewed
Native Americans as uncivilized and savage. In May of 1830, Congress passed The Indian
Removal Act, headed by President Andrew Jackson[3]. Even Thomas Jefferson, who often cited
the Great Law of Peace of the Iroquois Confederacy as the model for the U.S. Constitution,
supported Indian Removal as early as 1802[5]. Its main goal was the removal of the southeastern
Indian tribes. Jackson convinced the American Indians that with whites surrounding the Indian,
their culture was slowly being destroyed. It was the Native American who suffered most from
Andrew Jackson s vision of America. With all this in mind the Indian Removal act was inhuman
and in no doubt it should ve been done differently. This journey of the removal was called the Trail
of Tears, and this paper will show the effect it had on the Cherokee. The native people of the North
America lived for hundreds of years in peace. However, in 1540 the everyday lives of the Native
Americans came to an alarming halt. It was in that year that Hernando de Soto came in contact with
the native people of North America[1]. From then on the natives,

Symbolism In The Open Boat By Stephen Crane
Undoubtedly, Stephen Crane s Open Boat is regarded as one of the finest and most intriguing short
story written by an author with a naturalistic point of view or perspective. Stephen sets up the story
based on his real life experience thereby bringing out the intrinsic reality to his audience using
symbolism, poetry, and imagery. Perhaps the most intriguing naturalistic approach of the Open Boat
is the way Stephen expresses the themes in the short story with an ironic twist regarding the
vastness of the universeand the insignificance of man. As such, Stephen Cranes short story, The
Open Boat, is a true depiction of the tag of war between the unpredictable cosmic universe and man
exposing the themes of determination for survival, mortality, friendship, with an exquisite touch of
other devices such as poetry, symbolism or imagery, and tone. This paper aims at dissecting this
subject matter through a detailed analysis of the plot created throughout the novel. Since the story
is based on the true life experience of Stephen Crane, the setting of the story, therefore, is
determined by the actual event off the coast of Florida. As mentioned in the story, the setting area
of the story is the Mosquito Inlet. Based on the occurrence of the real event, the story is
contextualized within the period of January 1897 (enotes 7). The main theme expressed by Stephen
Crane in the story is nature s indifference towards man or nature versus man. The author elaborates
the realization of

Mediation Causes A Great Deal Of Impact On American Society
Mediation causes a great deal of impact on American society. In the movie Gamer, characters
deal with a never ending cycle of competition and become trapped in conflict. Superficial worlds
collide with reality and these worlds impact every citizen in the film. A viewer watching the film
may feel disgusted at the thought of being controlled as easily as characters in Gamer are, but the
sad truth lies within the reality of our own, mediated world. Gamer plays on viewers pre
conceived beliefs mediation causes. The common beliefs of competition making the world spin
around and money buying happiness, trap us as citizens in a vicious cycle of conflict with the
world around us. Gamer takes place in a near future New York City where a twisted man named
Ken Castle invents a method to controlpeoples minds. Castle has developed a nano cell that
replicates itself when placed on human brain cells and eventually takes over a subject,s whole
mind. Castle also created two virtual worlds where citizens hire other citizens to implant nano
cells and give up control of their minds. The paying citizens then obtain complete control over
their employee . Society, comparable to The Sims of our world, allows for control in all aspects
of life. The other world Castle creates, Slayers, contains similar qualities to our own modern day
multi player shooting games like the Call of Duty or Halo series. A twist in Slayers gameplay does
exist though. Instead of controlling anyone willing to give up

How Is Batman Changing
Have you ever had a TV show that you loved so much but it was ruined thanks to new versions of
it? Well Batman Begins by Christopher Nolan is the complete opposite of this. Christopher Nolan
toke the character of Batman and changed it to transform it into a new character by changing the
story, changing his character a bit and changing the characters that are in the story. Changing all of
this made the story fresh and alot more interesting.
In the original batman the story started in November 1939 s Detective #33 a mugger accosted
Thomas Wayne, his wife and son while they were walking home from a movie. He demands Mrs.
Wayne s necklace, Thomas intervenes and is shot; and when Mrs. Wayne calls for help, the mugger
shoots her too.
The mugger then leaves the grieving boy alone with his parents bodies under the now iconic
streetlight. A caption describes his eyes wide with terror and shock as the horrible... Show more

The way he is different is Batman seems to be more fearless in the comics because he openly
went up to the city officials and said none of you are safe. The only way the story is same is
because the way the past is shown is the same, how Batman calls the Bats and at the end it talks
about the joker. There are so many ways that they are different in because in the movie Batman
fights Scarecrow, Ra s Al Ghul, there is Rachel in the movies Lucius Fox is in the Movies
shaping him, with the Scene of Bruce s dad telling him why do we fall. it shows and it shows
him training in Asia learning everything. In the Comic it shows him fighting the swat team saving
Gordons baby and Catwoman is only in the book and later appears in the movies. The worlds are
actually similar because there is a lot of crime and bad things happening in Gotham and the only
way I see how its different is that it doesnt have the rails bruces dad built to unite the

Background Checks
The Preying Background Jasmine Sophus COM/156 January 9, 2012 Stacy Tye Williams Abstract
Criminal record checks are high in demand for decision makers to predict future unwanted
behaviors during employment screening. Employers conduct background checks on job applicants
for several reasons. One reason may be to confirm their moral character. Another reason may be
the desire to assess their risk of committing crimes that could cause somatic, monetary, and
reputational damage to the company. Consequently, if a person has had their record expunged then
it isn t protecting the company at all, it only allows them to see what they would like. Background
checks act as a filter for the ideal candidate, for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pre Qualified to get Disqualified Background checks hinder many qualified people from getting
the positions they deserve. Many people have made mistakes in their youthful past but have
since turned themselves around and now live a respectful life (BLUMSTEIN NAKAMURA,
2009). Everyone has made a mistake in the past but after learning from their mistakes many have
redeemed themselves and become better people. Criminal background checks reveal the
individual s old criminal record and highlight that fact, which overshadows a law abiding life led
since (BLUMSTEIN NAKAMURA, 2009). People have started families and want to set
examples for their children. Many of these people have earned college degrees hoper for a better
future. Degrees are the same no matter where you get them or who gets them. A degree doesn t
reflect a hard worked education that you have succeeded not a pass that you are haunted by. A
person with a past has to put forth the same amount of effort to get a degree as someone with no
criminal history. If they ve worked to obtain the degree then they should have the same
opportunity regardless of their past. Same Old Person, New Clean Record People Who Have
Clean Records are No Innocent, or Less Capable than Those Who Have A Criminal History.
Today we have the options of having our record expunged or sealed. Having you record sealed
means the public will not have access to it but certain parts of the government can access it.

Waking Up Narrative
Waking up in the middle of nowhere in Mexico,
With nothing but my clothes I have on and my friend Luis.
We starved for over one week and a half,
Just wondering when we ll get out next meal.
remembering what happened to me before I left was a pain,
It started after my parents died from a natural cause.
My sister Rosa was put up for adoption and soon will get a new family,
But for me, I was put to work on a crop farm.
On my first day I meet Luis he was also put to work,
Everything was great having a person who can understand.
But everything wasn t perfect, and everything can t be the same,
And the man we worked for was nothing but an alcoholic who beats us. Every single time he step
out of the bar and got home,
We would take off his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So one night Luis and I decide to escape,
And we did just as we said.
We took a bag of food and water that can last us about a week,
So we ran and ran and never looked back.
After an hour of running we rested for tomorrow s journey,
It was cold and we worried about animals that would attack.
Waking up in the morning this is where we first came in, I spotted two foxes eating our food,
I tried to scare them away, but it was too late for that.
Every single piece of food we packed was nothing but crumbs and a few drops of water,
Day after day hoping to find water and food,
Just listening to our stomachs roaring for food as
Until suddenly we fell, being unable to stop thinking this will be the end.
Trying to keep our eyes open, but knowing there s nothing to live for what s the point.
I shut my eyes and took my last breath and said my last words I ll see you mom and dad
Their I shut my eyes, realizing i m going to die
SPLASH, as a bucket of water hit my face I saw a man standing over me, The man said You made it
to the other side
As thrilled as I was, I turned and saw Luis dead .
Luis looked like as If all the life was drained out of

What Were The Major Changes In The 1920 s
The SEEALL Academy Mehrangiz Ismatullaeva
Class 803 May 1, 2015
The 1920s was a time in American history where there was explicit changes. The Roaring Twenties
had a massive impact on the American economy. It was a time in history where America started to
evolve as a country and become more dominant. Many states and cities in the United States
sustained economic prosperity. There was also an abundance of inventions and new music that
spread quickly throughout the country and became popular among a multitude of people. New
fashion trends also started to pop out and become popular. All these new major changes in the 20s

Probably the most common word remembered from the Twenties is a flapper. A flapper was a
woman with a short bob that drank, smoked, and wore short skirts. People also referred them to
using unladylike terms. Although many women were not as rebellious as a flapper, they had
flapper wardrobes that was quite popular among women at that time. The 1920s was also a time
where women gained political freedom. The Nineteenth Amendment was passed which allowed
women to vote. In the past, women had fought very hard for them to gain political freedom and the
Twenties was the time that they had finally accomplished their goals. Many women also had white
collar jobs which meant that they were performing professional work. This led to the creation of
birth control, which allowed women to have fewer children or prevent them from having children if
they did not want to. Also, to make the cleaning easier for women, the washing machine and the
vacuum were

  • 2. Philosophy Vs Native American Culture There are many interpretations and comparisons of philosophy that can be made. These views come from different cultural and intellectual backgrounds from Native Americans to the scientific community within the western world; all of which seek to answer the question of the relationship between self and nature. The Native American culturehas several different ideas that shape their philosophical way of thinking. These ideas include circularity and relatedness, conceptualization of person, poetry of performance and two world principles (Smith 2010). Conversely, western forms of intellectualism stem from making clarifications that distinctively set apart knowledge in science, religion humanity and technology. This is not the case with philosophical ideas and ways of thinking such as in the Native American culture. There are no clear distinctions in the ways of interpretation in the manner of storytelling, to teach lessons and morals to their youth. For example, the Native American narratives in telling the story of an elder who envisions himself as a great leader to his people, but before he can fully realize this vision he must endure hardship in learningdiscipline through hunting and fishing during a summer.... In fact, reality can be manipulated by the human mind (Trigg 2015). Even Socrates and Aristotle had some understanding of this notion and took nothing in their physical world for granted when it came to trying to understand the nature of self to the physical. • 3. Post-Industrial Society Video Analysis While the labor of the average man throughout America has arguably stayed the same, the same cannot be said for their role in that labor. The drudgeries of the farmyard become replaced with the drudgeries of the assembly line, to be replaced by the drudgeries of the cubicle, and so on and so forth. The video post industrial society does a great job briefly explaining this, citing the post industrial society being no longer focused on the production of things, rather on the creation of ideas and philosophies. While the video remains mostly factual and neutral, at the very end it s talking points would sound very similar to an article proclaiming the post industrial world as a myth .This article argues against those yearning for the days of industrialization, imagined as a world where... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On a similar note, this self proclaimed post industrial age has brought one major change, the need for specialized education. The ability for a man or women to support themselves and their family is now unattainable in developed and industrialized countries with only muscle jerks and repetition, with robotics and cheap labor making nearly anyone in those industries replaceable, and therefore, poorly paid in comparison to labor. As the value of education became clear, children would no longer be forced to work for the majority of the day in dangerous and dilapidated coal mines, but instead spend twelve years being prepared for future careers in areas that would arguably, be much more beneficial. The career opportunities of a young adult rose from the family farm or the factory in the middle of town to organizations all around the world. • 6. The Pros And Cons Of A Primary Election System A primary election is where voters in each state votes for a presidential candidate by political party. For instance, if you are a registered Democrat within your county, then you only vote for one democrat candidate in the primary. According the Greenberg book, the primary system is a related trend has involved more direct elections of government officials, replacing the old indirect methods (Greenberg 2014, pg. 286). This system is still used today to create a direct approach to determine which candidate from each party officially won in one state, in which a state that pledge to a specific candidate from each political party. But in today s system, there is such thing a party caucuses , or selection of delegates to national party conventions by city or countywide meetings by party (Greenberg 2014, pg. 287). This will enhance democracy, but it is sometimes an un democratic Lee 2 feature. So do we think that it is a good system? Because most politicians usually never listen and continuously debating, thus creating delays for a solution, I basically have no opinion on that. However, June primaries are official elimination round, in which one candidate from each party will run for the November election, so I think that the primary system breaks down to several candidates into one for each party. Ultimately, the primary system is to create a two party election, whether it is countywide, statewide, or nationwide, created a major success in the struggle for democracy (Greenberg 2014, pg. 287). Problems do remain at the polls and also while processing votes in the county seat, in which can create unexpected official

  • 8. Muscle Protein Synthesis As previously mentioned, WPHs are pre digested to a degree, meaning that the resulting amino acids are more quickly distributed to skeletal muscles. This positively impacts the rate of rate of muscle protein synthesis after exercise. The way this process works is broken into two main steps transcription and translation (Editors, 2011). In transcription, DNA is unzipped (opened), and with the help of the enzyme RNA polymerase, messenger RNA, or mRNA, is created by pairing complementary nucleotides using the DNA as an instructional template . This step does not require amino acids, but is necessary to briefly mention in order to give context to the second step. Translation involves the mRNA binding to ribosomes in the cytoplasm of the musclecell. Here, transfer RNA, or tRNA, molecules also bind to the ribosome. The order... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, WPHs are effective scavengers of molecules with free radicals in the body (Tang et al, 2012) due to their hydrophobicity. Secondly, reducing power is significant in WPHs, so that when these free radicals are found, they are eliminated effectively. In cells, oxygen is needed for many processes, but there are side effects of frequent exposure to the molecule, namely the formation of free radicals. These highly reactive molecules have an unpaired electron, allowing them to interact freely with and do damage to lipid molecules, particularly ones with double bonds. Since cell membranes have a high lipid content, they are at risk without antioxidant protection. Tang et al (2012) showed that WPHs from peanut peptides effectively scavenge and reduce hydroxyl radicals (most dangerous) and 2, 2 diphenyl 1 picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals. The latter of the two is particularly notable, as The model of scavenging stable DPPH radical is a widely used method to evaluate antioxidant activities in a relatively short time compared with other methods. • 11. A Study On Rapid Evolution 4.Introduction: a.I have learned that rapid evolution has expanded exceedingly. Zuk shows this with an example of the average size of fish being way much smaller due to fishermen causing the fish to reproduce earlier than they normally do. Due to this, evolution regulated the growth and size of the fish variously, thus their sexual maturity became different. b.Another thing that I have learned from the introduction is that evolving quickly is not always a good thing. When evolution occurs too fast, there s only a small percentage of the population that survives while the rest of the population disintegrates. An example of this is the Black Death, where the death rates were about 95%. Thus, only the fittest were able to survive the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was able to understand that we are not at the peak of evolution due to this, and we still have time to evolve more. Chapter 2: a.One thing that caught my interest was learning that due to the modification in our diet with agriculture, disease became more prominent. This shows what happened when we decided to go to crops and civilization for our source of food versus going for the traditional hunter gatherer role our ancestors once possessed. I thought this was a very interesting fact to learn. b.Another interesting thing is that the level of fitness for individuals could possibly get worse in the future. This is because our population is stuck and not adapting to the environments we are in. An effect of this could mean that we are not suited for the environment we are in, and we still have to evolve more so we can be more adaptive. Chapter 3: a.Some interesting information I learned was that evolution can occur quickly in the wild. Zuk demonstrated an example of this with a species of crickets that she had observed before. In fewer than 5 years, the male crickets had lost their ability to produce sound due to the rapid evolution of parasitic flies affecting the apparatus thus rendering the males. This was an example of one of the fastest cases of evolution. Knowing this allows me to understand that evolution occurring more quickly for one species could affect the evolution of another species. b.I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Management Theory Of Management Management has experienced remarkable shifts in the way that organizations conduct business particularly in the last century, due to the evolving workplace as well as tremendous changes in the roles of leaders in organizations. Early managers often relied on authoritative tactics to get the job done, which we have learned from history does not work very well for many modern organizations. In this paper, I will be analyzing the managementapproach my organization takes and whether this is the best approach to meet organizational goals and whether or not my organization may benefit from adopting a different approach or combining multiple approaches. What are management theories? Management theories are utilized in various organizations in an effort to increase organizational effectiveness and service delivery. The management theory that an organization decides to adhere to will vary based on the type of organization, as well as, the services and/or products that it offers. Therefore, it is not uncommon for an organization to use multiple theories when implementing strategies in the workplace. • 14. Profit Is Not The Purpose Of Enterprise Profit is not the purpose of enterprise Introduction Many people mistakenly think that the purpose of the company is simply to make money. In fact, profit is actually just an important result of the existence of a company. The real reason for company existence has to be further studied. Companies need profits, but more importantly they must have the social responsibility. Companies have a great responsibility to their employees, customers, suppliers and the general welfare of society, as well as the ecological environment. It inevitably comes to a conclusion that the existence of the company is to be able to complete a work which cannot be done by one person. It actually is a kind of contribution to society. But now, it can be seen that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For one hundred percent of the profits, all human laws will be trampled by these capitals. If there are three hundred percent of the profits, any crime will be committed, even with the risk of strangulation (Marx, Engels, Levitsky, 1996). For example, before Enron declared bankruptcy in 2001, it had about 21,000 employees and was one of the world s largest electricity, gas and telecommunication companies. The company had been named as America s most innovative company by Fortune for six consecutive years. But the real cause of Enron famous in the world was financial fraud scandal which made this company with hundreds of billions of assets in bankruptcy within a few weeks (Cahan Zhang, 2005). Therefore, it can be seen that the pursuit of profit as the purpose of the enterprise inevitably causes the emergence of various cases of unsustainable development, thereby harming the enterprise, society, the community, the environment and the staffs. The purpose of business is to provide goods and services, thus contributing to society. Despite obtaining profit is not a fundamental purpose of business, profit and purpose are not in confrontation. There are correlations between profit and purpose. First, profits are the result of corporate contribution to society. If the business provides the community with the necessary products and services in an efficient way, then the business will earn profits. Therefore, profit is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Chesapeake Colonies Vs New England Colonies As stories of the New World drifted back to the old, a new start appealed to the residents of a troubled, turbulent England. Poverty had made it difficult for many to provide for their families, forcing them to seek their livelihood elsewhere. Displaced peasants traveled to the already overpopulated major cities such as London, hoping to scrape by. Around the same time, King Henry VIII severed ties with the Catholic Church, establishing the Church of England, a Catholic sect with himself at the head. This led to confusion and dissent within England, ending in the eventual rise of the Protestant William and Mary until the rise of Elizabeth I, when she severed ties with Rome anew. This religious confusion led to an unstable religious climate in England, resulting in persecution of many different religions. Social, economic and religious issues led many to look to the Americas as an opportunity to start fresh, economically and religiously. Although the New England and the Chesapeake regions both started as small colonies, simply hoping to get by in the New World, by the 18th century they developed into drastically different cultures. The New England region consisted of many Puritans who fled England seeking religious freedom, while the Chesapeake region consisted of young Englishmen seeking wealth. Despite their similar hope for a better life in the New World, as a result of differences in topography, economy, religious background and overall societal views, the two colonies had developed into two distinct societies by the 1700s. Before either the New England or Chesapeake colonies were founded, the differences in the intentions of its founders foreshadowed the two distinct societies the colonies would become. Jamestown, the first of the Chesapeake colonies, was founded on the premise of accumulating wealth. Settlers traveled to the New World in hopes of economic opportunity for themselves and their investors, spending their early days searching for gold. With the creation of the Canadian Counter Battery Office (CCBO) this new technology was effectively employed for one of the first times at Vimy Ridge. • 40. Goals Centered Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Theory And... Classroom management can be based on a number of researched theories or models. Research has shown that when incidents requiring behaviour to be managed increase, learning will decrease (Funnell, 2009, p. 482), therefore highlighting the importance for the teacher to implement successful strategies to restrict problem behaviour. This Essay will discuss strengths and weaknesses of three possible theories a teacher can use to manage a classroom and the student s behaviour. The theories to be discussed will include; Goal Centered Theory, Cognitive behavioural theory and Choice theory. Goal Centered Theory is a social discipline model of Rudolf Dreikurs that was influenced by social phycologist Alfred Alder (Old Dominion University, 2016). The underpinning idea to this theory is that students have a democratic say in classroom discipline and milieu. The teachers aim is to meet to students needs satisfaction by focussing on their social relationships, feelings, thoughts and behaviours (Lyons, Ford Slee, 2014, p. 24) in a democratic way making sure that students feel both valued and like they belong . By meeting these needs in a democratic way teachers will not only gain more respect from their students but will also give their students a feeling of self worth (Grandmont, 2002, p. 241). This approach is based on the belief that students take responsibility for controlling their behaviour and that they have the ability to make responsible decisions (Grandmont, 2002, p. 4). ... • 41. Effects Of Glaciers On The Environment As time progresses more and more emissions are expelled into our atmosphere. While this happens at the current rate, our world begins to warm and the climates begin to change. One of the largest impacts we see in our world is glaciers retreating at a pace that seems unstoppable. As the glaciers retreat we see the surrounding ecosystems changing with them. The water put off into the oceans impacts not only molecules in the water but the life within it. As glaciers retreat more and more questions arise but one pressing factor is how it is affecting entire surrounding regions. It is questionable to see if some species are adapting to the receding of glaciers or if populations are directly impacted. Since glaciers play a huge role in the environment, it can only be predicted that it will impact many species dramatically. This can be predicted because of the noticeable change in the ecosystems around them. Glaciers hold a huge mass that not only covers large areas of land but shapes and changes the landscape. Since Prince William Sound has so many glaciers feeding into its region it is an ideal area to observe.. Since glaciers are such influential masses in our environment it can be predicted that their retreat has direct impact in their region. • 42. Ethical Arguments Against Torture Discussions concerning torture have always been controversial and upsetting. For the benefit of many, torture seems excusable and permissible when it is guaranteed to yield vital and necessary information. Even from an act utilitarian standpoint, torture is acceptable when its actions produce the highest happiness in numbers. But from a rule utilitarian perspective, torture violates universal truths and is not effective everywhere at all times, since it is not always guaranteed to produce the same result. This essay will argue against torture on the basis that it is unethical no matter what the situation is or who the suspect may be. The Oxford English Dictionary provides two main entries to define the word torture and, for the sake of the unusual circumstances presented in the time bomb case, the second entry will be used as a springboard for the rule utilitarian argument against torturing a suspect and/or his child. According to the OED s second entry, the definition of torture is To inflict severe pain or suffering upon; to torment; to distress or afflict grievously; also, to exercise the mind severely. By examining this definition, emphasis should be placed on two main parts: 1. To inflict severe pain or suffering upon and 2. To exercise the mind severely. We will work from these parts to break down the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The act of torture itself has the effect of a double edged sword on the suspect and the torturer. To exercise the mind severely is not just a definition limited to the suspect but encompasses all participants of the torture as well. • 43. The Impact Of The Trail Of Tears Native Americans Indians faced numerous challenges to their survival as people on their own lands in the eighteenth century. The Indians found themselves under severe pressure by settlers and speculators in the new nation interested in expanding east and westward of North America, either by acquiring Indian lands by treaty or by force. The American people at the time viewed Native Americans as uncivilized and savage. In May of 1830, Congress passed The Indian Removal Act, headed by President Andrew Jackson[3]. Even Thomas Jefferson, who often cited the Great Law of Peace of the Iroquois Confederacy as the model for the U.S. Constitution, supported Indian Removal as early as 1802[5]. Its main goal was the removal of the southeastern Indian tribes. Jackson convinced the American Indians that with whites surrounding the Indian, their culture was slowly being destroyed. It was the Native American who suffered most from Andrew Jackson s vision of America. With all this in mind the Indian Removal act was inhuman and in no doubt it should ve been done differently. This journey of the removal was called the Trail of Tears, and this paper will show the effect it had on the Cherokee. The native people of the North America lived for hundreds of years in peace. However, in 1540 the everyday lives of the Native Americans came to an alarming halt. It was in that year that Hernando de Soto came in contact with the native people of North America[1]. • 44. Symbolism In The Open Boat By Stephen Crane Undoubtedly, Stephen Crane s Open Boat is regarded as one of the finest and most intriguing short story written by an author with a naturalistic point of view or perspective. Stephen sets up the story based on his real life experience thereby bringing out the intrinsic reality to his audience using symbolism, poetry, and imagery. Perhaps the most intriguing naturalistic approach of the Open Boat is the way Stephen expresses the themes in the short story with an ironic twist regarding the vastness of the universeand the insignificance of man. As such, Stephen Cranes short story, The Open Boat, is a true depiction of the tag of war between the unpredictable cosmic universe and man exposing the themes of determination for survival, mortality, friendship, with an exquisite touch of other devices such as poetry, symbolism or imagery, and tone. This paper aims at dissecting this subject matter through a detailed analysis of the plot created throughout the novel. Since the story is based on the true life experience of Stephen Crane, the setting of the story, therefore, is determined by the actual event off the coast of Florida. As mentioned in the story, the setting area of the story is the Mosquito Inlet. Based on the occurrence of the real event, the story is contextualized within the period of January 1897 (enotes 7). The main theme expressed by Stephen Crane in the story is nature s indifference towards man or nature versus man. The author elaborates the realization of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Background Checks The Preying Background Jasmine Sophus COM/156 January 9, 2012 Stacy Tye Williams Abstract Criminal record checks are high in demand for decision makers to predict future unwanted behaviors during employment screening. Employers conduct background checks on job applicants for several reasons. One reason may be to confirm their moral character. Another reason may be the desire to assess their risk of committing crimes that could cause somatic, monetary, and reputational damage to the company.
