Talis Elevate, a new resource level analytics and collaboration tool, allows academics to easily interrogate micro level analytics at resource and student level. Using Elevate on a wide variety of courses and disciplines, we have proved/disproved a number of assumptions about student engagement and resource/feedback interaction.
The role of UK higher education (HE), further education (FE) and skills sectors in developing student employability is clear. Technology can be an enabler to the development and communication of employability skills, but are organisations and employers making best use of it?
This presentation aims to share and discuss the emerging themes and ideas being generated through our student employability project, which explores how technology can best support students to develop and communicate the skills that are needed for the workplace.
The presentation informs participants of what has been learnt so far and engage them in discussions. We will:

Crossing the threshold: moving e-portfolios into the mainstream - Jisc Digita...Jisc
Since 2002 Jisc has been exploring the use of e-portfolio processes, pedagogies, tools and technologies in a range of learning contexts. Here in this workshop we will showcase the findings and key resources from this body of work, with a focus on the results of Jisc-funded research into e-portfolio implementation at scale, including the ‘threshold concept’ model of e-portfolio implementation, and findings of a subsequent study exploring the critical success factors for implementation.
A range of resources will be shared for participants to engage with, including the ‘e-Portfolio Implementation Toolkit’, which aims to enable others to understand issues around implementation and identify case studies that are most relevant to a their contexts; and video case studies showcasing rich examples of practice. Experience from a recent implementation story using the toolkit will be shared.

Jisc has supported the creation of a UK wide Change Agents Network to support staff and students working in partnership on technology enhanced curriculum change projects. The network provides a virtual and face-to-face forum for staff and students across the UK to share approaches/experiences and offer support. The network was created as it was identified that working in partnership increases the success of technology-led projects and delivers the identification of student need and appropriate action. Delegates will have an opportunity to hear examples of how institutions are working in partnership with students to identify and affect sustainable change. Students who have participated in the network will share their experiences and outline the benefits they have experienced in working in partnership with staff on curriculum change initiatives.
The network has worked with the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) to develop an award for staff and students working in partnership on change projects, the Institutional Change Leader award and this session will offer an insight into how colleges and universities are recognising and rewarding student participation in change projects. Participants will engage in discussion around this award and will be given access to the accreditation resources and materials, which they may wish to take to their own institution.
The network has also developed a guidance toolkit to support colleges and universities with implementing student partnerships, which has been developed from the collective resources of a range of Jisc, Higher Education Academy, QAA and institutional initiatives in this area. Delegates will participate in a group activity using these interactive materials so as to evaluate their use in supporting their own practice in taking forward student partnership working in their own institutions. Modelling openness: Developing the Digital Fluency course at OUTBrenda Mallinson
It is recognised that more than ‘literacy’ is needed in today’s academic environment in order to take full advantage of the affordances of using ICTs for the full range of teaching and learning, research, and administrative duties and blended modes of provision.
In order to address this issue, OUT, in collaboration with Saide’s OER Africa initiative, has conceptualised a course on ‘Digital Fluency’ to be provided as an Open Educational Resource (OER) and made available for ODeL provision.
The move from literacy to fluency encompasses effective and ethical online communication, critical interpretation, quality resource creation and curation, knowledge co-construction, and an understanding of using all of these abilities to open up education – with all of these becoming increasingly standard and effortless over time.

The Blackboard Exemplary Course Program began in 2000 with the goal of identifying and disseminating best practices for designing engaging online courses. Using an established rubric for online course quality, faculty and course designers can evaluate how well their course conforms to proven online teaching best practices for Course Design, Interaction and Collaboration, Assessment, and Learner Support. During this online session offered 12/17/13, we explored suggested best practices included in the Blackboard Exemplary Course Program Rubric for designing engaging online courses. Practical tips for building a course in Blackboard that meets the established quality benchmarks and links to sample award-winning course tours were provided. We also covered the steps and associated deadlines for faculty interested in submitting their course for consideration as a Blackboard Exemplary Course. This workshop was geared toward an audience already familiar with the basic online teaching tools available in Blackboard.

With the increase in the diffusion of blended and online programming across higher educational institutions, stakeholders are looking for ways to ensure the quality of the student experience. Quality of blended programs can be ensured through faculty and instructional development and training, faculty and instructor evidence of competence and recognition for excellence, constructive evaluation and feedback on blended and online course design and delivery, and community-building opportunities among instructors and staff. Blended learning is becoming a prominent mode of programming and delivery in education. It is swiftly emerging and transforming higher education to better meet the needs of our students providing them with more effective learning experiences. This movement is leading to a renovation in the way courses are taught and programs support their students. Instructional and faculty development provides the core foundation to institutional programming in providing a framework for implementing blended and online learning pedagogy in the classroom. This student-centered, active learning pedagogy has the potential to alter the traditional classroom by enhancing course effectiveness through increased interactivity leading to superior student outcomes.
A recent study reported that "Respondents ... anticipated that the number of students taking online courses will grow by 22.8% and that those taking blended courses will grow even more over the next 2 years" (Picciano, Seamen, Shea, & Swan, 2012, p. 128). As the demand for blended learning opportunities increases, so does the need for development of instructors to teach and design blended courses and mechanisms to ensure the quality of courses and programs. The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (UWM) has been providing instructional development and blended learning opportunities to students for over a decade. Since 2001, UWM has developed 8 blended degree programs. In the fall of 2012, UWM offered approximately 100 blended courses and enrolled 7,655 students (26%) in at least one blended course. UWM continues to see growth, as the nation does, and continues to provide opportunities for students to best meet their needs.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

• a ‘starter’ pack for those who are unfamiliar with digital environments, providing
resources for local Digital Champions to run place-based groups
• links to existing and new resources, tools, templates, toolkits, services, key policy
documents, reports, research outputs, project reports, themed collections, etc.
• case studies of effective use of LTs in colleges, ACL, and WBL
• case studies contributed by employer-based learning and college alumni now in
employment, to assist with improving ‘the line of sight to work’
• links to BETT resources and student competition outputs on what learners need
• links to existing repositories, Jisc, ETF, ALT etc resources and services, project
outputs, curriculum resources, and other sector providers of accredited courses.

• Core and optional timed activities offered within a default learning sequence
• Short duration (~4 weeks) sessions of ~3 hours core and ~3 hours optional work
per week
• Cohort-based scheduled events with open access, as well as on-demand access
• Collaborative learning activities to follow on for groups with common interests,
sometimes across organisations, to contextualise general principles and generic
resources and tools to subject area, or local needs
• Learning analytics that give participants and tutors a profile of participant
activity
