Editor's Notes

  • #4  “Managers, entrepreneurs, and business executives must have e-competences to grow, export and be connected to the global digital markets. In a digital economy, e-leadership skills are essential.” Michel Catinat, Head of Unit ’Key Enabling Technologies and ICT’” at DG Enterprise and Industry, European Commission (European Commission, 2015) “Businesses want to see higher education institutions doing more to improve the business relevance of undergraduate courses (50%) and to help students become job-ready (42%)” “Businesses look first and foremost for graduates with the right attitudes and aptitudes to enable them to be effective in the workplace – nearly nine in ten employers (89%) value these above factors such as degree subject (62%)” Inspiring Growth: CBI/Pearson education and skills survey 2015 “Universities should reflect on the opportunities that are provided for students to develop employability skills through the formal learning methodologies used within the university” (Wilson, 2012, p.10) “Employable graduates” will be a cornerstone metric of the TEF for HE FE’s main mission is on line of sight to employment (BIS/FELTAG)
  • #5 Working in partnership with students facilitates much more than effective engagement of students in the development of their digital environment. It can also prompt and support staff to develop their own digital capabilities and enhance their practice. There is growing evidence that this approach is enabling  providers and universities to deliver more effective  student engagement activities and to engage their students in active dialogue about the digital aspects of their learning experiences as well as to explore the role of technology in supporting students’ studies and in preparing them for employment.
